Historical landmark
Gretna Green Famous Blacksmiths Shop is a historic wedding venue with a symbolic anvil and a rich exhibition of its history. It has been the number one wedding destination in the UK since 1754, offering all-inclusive wedding packages and venue-only options to suit various budgets and guest sizes. Couples can exchange vows inside the iconic shop over the world-famous Anvil or choose from other Gretna Green wedding venues.
Famous for runaway weddings, this is a beautiful village to stop by. There are dog friendly cafes, gift shops, toilets-which are beautiful, by the way, and photo worthy surroundings! We were on a group tour with a mandatory stop here. There's ample parking space of course.

Really nice place to visit just into Scotland. The restaurant was tidy and tables cleared quickly. The coffee was very good . Went into the blacksmith museum and enjoyed looking at the history of the place. The food hall very good with a few items of food I haven't seen before.

Got married in there a week ago! Beautiful place filled with character and history. Lots of cool souvenirs in the shop (husband bought the anvil jumper, I bought lots of things like magnets, mini whiskeys, Christmas decorations etc) the museum was very informative and interesting, there was a cute wall to put your story on! Staff very lovely and if you stay at one of their hotels you get 10% off (excluding alcohol) You'll always see someone getting married there. The Thursday we arrived we witnessed 4 during our visit. Then on or day I saw two others. Be warned if you get married here you may have tourists snapping shots of you! (Was a very surreal feeling but I didn't mind, they were all so sweet giving compliments)

We had our vowel renewal here and what a beautiful experience we had! The staff were amazing. Everything was absolutely perfect. Highly recommended. We had Chloe as our photographer what a gem she was. Made me feel comfortable considering I hate photos of myself! She was funny and couldn’t be happier with our pictures! Highly recommend having your ceremony here it’s stunning

Even though I really enjoyed going to Gretna, I felt it had changed so much. It's a beautiful place to visit but it's got very commercialised. That being said it still holds a big place in my heart.
Marlene P — Google review
A charming and historic spot that oozes romance! Famous for runaway weddings since the 1700s, the Blacksmith’s Shop is packed with character and fascinating exhibits. The museum tells the stories of eloping couples beautifully, and the setting feels like stepping back in time. Even if you’re not tying the knot, it’s worth a visit for the history, lovely gift shop, and cosy café. Staff are friendly and happy to share the legends of the place. A must-stop if you’re anywhere near the Scotland–England border. I also recommend bringing a lock to put on the ‘LOVE’ sign! We bought one from the gift shop and wrote our initials on it.
Liam D — Google review
We must have hit on a quiet time to visit. Last time we visited the place was very busy. It was more enjoyable being able to amble around the site. I didn't realise couples actually get married here. We saw at least three couples set to get hitched. We visited the cafe which had a very tasty selection of varying foods on offer. My better half praised how tasty the Scotch broth was. We had a look in the souvenir shop and again we were met with an array of varying gifts. The Foodhall likewise, was very well stocked and the Shortbread shop offered many styles of shortbread. We were lucky with the weather as it was sunny. We spent a very pleasant couple of hours on site.
Tommy S — Google review
I only came to know this place while returning from Edinburgh. It is one of Scotland’s most famous and romantic destinations, renowned for its rich history of runaway weddings. Located just across the English border, it became legendary in the 18th century when young couples, often under the age of 18; fled here to marry freely. Under Scottish law, they could wed without parental consent, and the English authorities had no power to stop them. The village’s famous Blacksmith’s Shop, where these marriages were performed over the anvil, remains a symbol of love, freedom, and timeless romance- making Gretna Green a must-visit for history and heart alike.

Gretna Green

Gretna Green, located in the southern council area of Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, is known for its historical significance as a destination for eloping couples. In the past, English marriage laws were strict, but in Scotland, anyone over sixteen could marry without parental consent by making a simple declaration before a witness. The village's proximity to the Scottish border made it an ideal location for couples seeking to bypass stricter marriage laws in England and Wales.

The Courtship Maze in Gretna is a 70-meter by 40-meter structure celebrating marriage and love. It features two separate entrances for couples to find their way to each other, symbolizing the journey of lovers coming together in life. Visitors praise the interesting maze, gift shops, bar, restaurant, and food hall run by polite staff. Families enjoy letting kids run around and burn off energy in the maze while appreciating love quotes scattered throughout.
Found at the back of the car park, by the wall of Love. A fairly basic maze that you can wonder around. Great for families, adults and children. Adds a bit of fun to a pretty little area. Its free, and so is the parking. Toilets and cafe nearby.

What a little gem of a place. Easy to find. Large free carpark. The maze is great and the padlock love wall is a nice touch. Free to enter lots to see. Cafe ,shops and public toilets (no charge) . Dog friendly a field at the back of the maze to walk the dogs on or off the lead. In 3 hours we see 5 weddings, one with a pipper, one in Scottish dress. Well worth a visit.

The Courtship Maze at Gretna Green is such a fun place to visit. We honestly didn’t know who enjoyed it more, us grown ups or the children. It’s full of laughter from start to finish and brings out everyone’s playful side. The setting is lovely with open space all around and the charm of Gretna Green adds to the experience. It’s a great stop for families and couples visiting the area, and a brilliant way to spend some time together having fun outdoors.

Went to Gretna Green to check our lock on the fence on or tour of Scotland up round the West Coast NC500. Such a beautiful country who needs to go abroad. Our lock was still attached as we left it on or first visit in 2021, rusty but intact. It's like a pilgrimage every year

What could I possibly say that has not already been said? Nice break during a long car ride. We had fun going through the maze but found the solution in a mere 5 minutes. Our children loved rolling down the hill more than the maze. So not as much a "must-see", but more a nice fresh air break.
Laura D — Google review
It’s nice to walk through the maze.
Malcolm P — Google review
First of all having read a few negative reviews we were unsure whether to visit here, I am so glad we did, what an awesome place, the maze is very interesting, take your time to look at everything. Brilliant gift shops (I'm much poorer now), bar, restaurant, food hall etc, all very well run by exceptionally polite staff. We were holidaying in the lake District and decided to visit Gretna green while being so close, it really made our holiday. I'll let the photo's do the talking, but I can thoughrely recommend.

The Gretna Inn is a cozy hotel with comfortable rooms and a pleasant patio lounge. It also boasts a restaurant/pub that includes a game room for entertainment. The staff is excellent, providing friendly service to guests. The location is lovely and has been enjoyed by many visitors. While the rooms may be basic, they are tidy and offer good comfort with great pillows. Some guests from France found it amusing to figure out how the lights and shower operated, but overall, the amenities were satisfactory.
Stopped for dinner on our way travelling from Yorkshire to Glasgow. The food & service were top notch. Family friendly too. My youngest wanted just custard for pudding & they happily accommodated her wish.

The recommendation was spot on. If your guesthouse isn't recommending this place for food then there are ulterior forces at work. The food was well priced, well made and delivered with a smile, what more can be asked. It's proper pub with a Tap room (this includes Tap room customers. You may be able to hear them), do not be alarmed, relish in finding the place where locals drink.

Such a great restaurant and inn! Food was lovely, traditional pub food. The owners were so friendly and kind and very personable. Servers were great, and the atmosphere was very quaint and cozy. Location is perfect, as there is plenty of parking due to the outlets across the way, in addition to the in parking lot. In conclusion, this place should be on your list of your planning to go to gretna, or traveling through on your way to Scotland.

Wee stop off on the way home. Served by lovely lady, very cheery. Prices were great. There were 4 of us. If back in the area would definitely visit again.

We called for a bite to eat after visiting the Devils Porridge museum. Very friendly staff and lovely food. Good sized portions at an excellent price and served ith a smile. We will come again if we are in the area. Much preferred than your large chain restaurants. The outside is beautiful and in full bloom, the inside is of a traditional pub with many original features.

Fantastic family dog friendly pub that serves excellent food. Called in on way to Ayrshire from Durham. Very welcoming lovely flower display around main enternace. Staff were lovely and the food was amazing. Husband tried the blue cheese burger which he said wasgabtatsix and very strong. I had the steak pie and I'd definately recommend, they even pandered to my son by serving him and adult size portion of the kids meal. Absolutely fantastic little place.

This review is for the food, the woman who served me was lovely. "Chicken curry" was horrendous, like a £1 microwave meal from Farmfoods with a horrible tasting stale poppadom. 3 out 4 meals had cold chips and the fish was dry and overcooked. All round terrible and waste of money.

Pizza restaurant
Pizza Express is a popular pizza chain known for its relaxed ambiance and chefs wearing striped t-shirts, who skillfully toss handmade pizzas. Despite being busy, the staff courteously warned of potential delays in service. The welcoming atmosphere and prompt drinks service added to the positive experience. The pizzas arrived promptly and were cooked to perfection. Although it is a chain restaurant, Pizza Express excels at what it offers.
Me and my Wife had a lovely meal here today. The food was outstanding, even better than it had been on previous visits. The staff are so welcoming and attentive, Helen was wonderful as always and I was sure to get everyone else's names too because they all gave fantastic service; thanks Pati, Filip, Eva, Marcus and Keith, great stuff!
Lewis G — Google review
Heavenly Romana pizza with hot honey, nduja, pepperoni, red chillies and cheese. Lovely service from our waiter (and all the other staff actually). Great that they have baby changing in the gents as well as the ladies. Well done Pizza Express!
Rachel W — Google review
Genuinely just walked out of here astounded. Husband had the absolute worst lasagna we’ve ever tasted, worse than an economy supermarket ready meal. We only stopped here as we live 10 mins away and couldn’t be bothered to cook tonight. I didn’t add gratuity, the chairs were filthy, crumbs and debris along the window ledge, high chair was also dirty. The waitress that served us didn’t seem happy I didn’t add gratuity but then as my baby and husband left out the door, I was cornered by an older American woman and it was just absolutely astounding that this is normal practice for pizza express?! Asking me if my meal was in fact okay. Just really disgusting behaviour making a point to accost patrons in such a manner that is clearly to try shame them or intimidate them because they didn’t add gratuity. Won’t be going here again, food is sub par and possibly the most bonkers experience I’ve ever had with staff. My pal had told me how bad it was here a few months ago but didn’t think much of it. We were Asked twice about the food but genuinely just couldn’t be bothered to say it was bad because I just wanted to leave. Which honestly would have been really clear to the staff but to wait till I was ALONE to corner me is just crass.
Marta A — Google review
David was so friendly and helpful. Really funny too! The food was great, just overall a superb experience! Came 2 weeks ago and back again tonight for more! We have some dietary requirements in the group and the staff are never shy at offering to help accommodate for us. Thanks again for another great experience guys!
Jay O — Google review
I visited around lunchtime yesterday and I was served by a girl called Alana that had a brilliant personality and a lovely smile on her face. She went through the menu letting us know what was good to have as we haven’t been to Pizza Express in a while. The food was pretty good for the price and I would come again if that’s the type of service you get.😊
Darrell H — Google review
Visited with my guest on Sunday evening and was impressed with the experience. Free parking and warm friendly welcome. The restaurant was clean including the floor! The menu offers a good choice of pizza and pasta. We had pizza which was tasty and presented nicely. I’m Coeliac so aware before choosing somewhere to eat. The menu offered a selection of gluten free options, and the staff were fully aware of gluten free requirements. I had confidence in the restaurant’s responsibility. We greeted by a friendly, hospitality professional – Zuza. We were impressed by Pizza Express’s commitment and investment to staff development. It was demonstrated in the special touches which achieve exceptional customer service.

Staff gave us a very warm welcome and continued to be friendly and attentive throughout our visit. We were served by Pati, Helen and another server we didn't catch the name of, they were all outstanding. The food was excellent too!

Lovely hotel cannot fault the hotel itself. Went for a meal in their restaurant and were given a menu and a festive menus consisting of starter, main, dessert and coffee with mints all for £19.99. Brilliant we thought we will have that sounds reasonable. No! We ate the starter and main and were asked if we wanted dessert. Thought that was odd as the original menu didn’t come back to us, so we asked if this was included in the special menu. Waitress said no and didn’t know what we were talking about. Went to pay and asked again about this special menu and they said they’d checked all the menus and there was nothing about a set menu. Obvious they had removed it, so won’t be staying there again. The only helpful staff was the girl on reception.update! !!next morning we’re given some money back for the mix up so all was well. Thank you so much and we will be back. 5 stars 🌟 now from us. Merry Xmas and a happy new year xx

Stayed over for our wedding day and booked an evening meal in the restaurant. On arrival we found that our booking was now in the bar as a hen party of roughly 150 had booked the restaurant/function room. Made to feel second rate citizens whilst the hen party took over both rooms. Blaring music all night ruined our day. All could have been avoided if they told us of this event before we arrived. We'd have booked somewhere else. Not happy.

Solway Pizzeria is located on the north shore of the Solway, an area with a rich historical background. It's situated in Gretna, which was once a significant site for cordite production and also witnessed Britain's worst rail disaster. Despite its somber history, Solway Pizzeria offers a bright spot for visitors and locals alike.
After driving 3 hours to Gretna from Yorkshire, I was shattered and got into me hotel room. From there it was 10:15 at night and every takeaway was shut, rubbish for a Friday night.... but Solway Pizzeria was the only place open so thought I'd give it a go! Brilliant service to my hotel with delivery in about 30 minutes, the food was lovely quality for a takeaway too, the chips were proper chips!! Not nasty oily takeaway ones! The pizza was beautiful and well made and the burgers were great. After a long drive and everywhere shut can't thank Solway Pizzeria enough for the service!

I feel duped.. I find it hard to believe that this places gets the reviews it does. We got chips from here - wouldn't chance anything else. From the outside the place just looks like a shed. Inside looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Dirt and grease on the walls, bits of food on the floor and the pizza ovens looked like they hadn't been cleaned. Whilst making someone else's pizza, the guy making it was just burping away and coughing without covering his mouth. The chips... They were just a frozen bag of chips chucked in. The chips had wee black dots all over them, pretty sure that indicates the oil hasn't been changed in quite a while... They went straight in the bin 🤢 I definitely wouldn't recommend eating from this place, if you're thinking about it go and visit for yourself.
