Les maisons suspendues de Pont-en-Royans are a sight to behold in the small town of Pont-en-Royans, located on the Bourne river in the southern part of the Isere department, France. This picturesque town is situated at the edge of the Vercors Natural Regional Parc and has gained attention as a filming location for various productions. Visitors have described it as a hidden gem with medieval charm and clear, cold river water perfect for picnics and swimming.
We made a short stop here on our road trip in France to see the colorful hanging houses. It was well worth the detour. The town was deserted on the Thursday morning that we visited in March and it was easy to find a parking spot on Grande Rue, just east of the suspended houses. We made a short walk down to the river and read the informational signs that were translated in English.

Gorgeous village! Definitely worth a visit! Enjoy the water and park like setting on a warm day and it will feel unreal in the best kind of way!

Really cute little hidden gem of a small town in the French countryside. Stayed in a Airbnb with a great view of the town. It's well worth a visit, if you are in the area

We loved Pont et Royans. It's a little hidden jem in the mountains and still has so much medieval charm. The water in the river was so clear and cold. Lovely place for a picnic and a swim but alot of wasps too. Loved the natural pools which are below the little waterfall. Take time out to visit it, you will love it! ❤️

Nice walk along the river and then up through the village. Helpful notices about the village along the way. Some of the houses clearly defy physics. I gave this 5 stars because there were only a few other people walking around the day we were there, and it was very enjoyable. But it is a small, tight road, and I could see this place becoming too crowded very easily.

Great place to visit in the mountains. Good to know that there are barely few places to eat and drink. I visited this place in Octobre, it was calm and serene
Edy A — Google review
A very beautiful place with a special spirit. On Saturday noon/afternoon at the end of September (short walk with friends) the park was almost empty.
David K — Google review
We had much fun there. We didn't go swimming but walked with our foots in the water. We saw lots of people enjoying their time there. It's a nice playground for the young and the old.

I went to Pont-en-Royans to see the water flowing through the village...it’s really cool! The way the river runs right under the old houses is something you don’t see every day. The water moves fast and looks super fresh and clean. It’s a nice spot to just relax and watch the flow, listen to the sounds, and enjoy the calm vibe. The village itself is small but pretty, with some nice spots to sit by the water. Parking is close by and easy to find if you’re not there on a busy weekend. Overall, a great place to hang out for a while and enjoy nature right in the middle of a beautiful little town.

Beatiful place and very quiet!!

Disappointing! Almost everything is written or spoken in French. No other languages, translations or subtitles available. Within 1 hour you have seen it all. During our visit it was not possible to taste the water. You better spent your time along the river side or in the village. The view is beautifull and the river is refreshing. Bring you water shoes 😜

Beautiful, very interesting

Disappointing. A lot about energy generation but not much on the key aspects of water eg climate change and rainfall, use of water in our lives, etc. Could have been much better.
Patrick W — Google review
A museum about the importance of water and it's use. More aimed at children (although my 3-month old was not that amused). Got tickets for free with a stay in the hotel of the museum.
Sander M — Google review
Really cool museus, with the only water bar in France! A must go if you are in the region!
Luciano D — Google review
The museum itself is so so only. The hotel is average. But the restaurant here offers very high quality great food :)

Hôtel et Restaurant du Musée de l'eau is a simple hotel that offers basic rooms and complimentary access to the adjacent museum. The restaurant has received positive feedback for its quality food, friendly staff, and great views of the river from the terrace. Guests have praised the well-presented and flavorful dishes made with local products. The daily menu is affordable, offering a good value for money.
The food is out of this world.. Extremely good, so well presented and the taste is impeccable! The place was clean. Staff was very well organized seating people making sure everyone was good, without it getting annoying. One of the best restaurants I have ever visited. Staff so friendly and observant. When water were close to empty they came with a new bottle. Food full of flavor and very well composed. Doesn't hurt that they have a great view as well. 5 stars all the way!
Scmi7y — Google review
Fantastic location, friendly staff, Excellent food at restaurant but hotel rooms need improvement! The most squeaky bed I ever slept in, paper thin walls, you could actually hear your "neighbours" turning on the bed and overall bit neglected, same as museum.
Anna P — Google review
Really good restaurant with a view for the river! Staff super friendly, and the food super good. Getting the menu will also come with cheese and deserts that are fantastic! Good price for the quality of the meal!
Luciano D — Google review
This restaurant offers great quality at a very affordable price! The daily menu is 13€ and on week-ends you can order a menu that includes entrée, plat and dessert, for only 20€. Dishes are prepared with local products. From the terrace you get a great view of the suspended houses. During winter, you may prefer staying inside where it's cozier, and you still have a good view to the river from the tables near the windows. Service with a smile!
Daniel M — Google review
stay, good staff, usual continental breakfast, you have to embrace the way of life in the area, great for the balcony roads, other wise very peaceful, I would stay again if I was in the region again
Baldie L — Google review
Most of the family liked their meals (we just went to the restaurant) and the water fountains by the outdoor area were great to cool down in but my pork was seriously overcooked
Kevin S — Google review
Service was good but room very small. Newly specked bathroom added glam to the experience.
Jen R — Google review
Nice food with a good view over the river, reasonable prices

Le Picard is a cozy spot to warm up and enjoy some coffee and crepes after a cool and damp ride. The menu offers delicious crepes with plenty of chocolate and nuts. Additionally, the restaurant boasts an impressive selection of around 150 Belgian and French beers, including lambic, wheat German, blondes, Trappist, and more. The friendly waitress adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Guests can also appreciate the beautiful views from the terrace while savoring their main dishes.
Found there arroind 150 beers lambic, wheat German, blondes, Trappist, etc. All Belgian and frenchc beers you can imagine. No craft on the other side. Also god vies to the cannon from the terrace

Main dish was amazing, and the waitress was sooo friendly, I loved her
Lucie F — Google review
After taking some photos just across the street, I went in for some coffee and to warm up as the ride there had been cool and damp. The crepes were suggested and I'm very glad I had them. Lots of chocolate and nuts. Excellent.

Mixed experience here. The setting is lovely, and the service was very friendly. Some of the food was very nice (our goats cheese starter was delicious), some of it very average (pavé de boeuf totally overcooked despite requesting au saignant). The wine was nice but I was pretty shocked when the bill came and it was 7 euros a glass! Didn't expect to pay that up in the mountains - it doesn't even cost that on the Côte d'Azur. I think for us the most disappointing thing was that you are required to have a minimum of 2 courses. Whilst it was lovely to sit for a few hours in Pont-en-Rotans, we had planned a lot for the day and ended up having to cut short our itinerary because we spent such a long time having lunch. We weren't made aware of this rule until after having already been sat for 20 minutes with a drink and it was too late to movesimewhere else. Outside there is a sign saying 'crêpes' so we wrongly assumed we could just pop in for a quick bite to eat, but instead ended up having an unnecessarily long lunch, expensive wine and fairly average food, albeit with a lovely view.

(Translated by Google) Excellent restaurant with a beautiful view of the mountains and a waterfall from the terrace. The service was extremely friendly and made every effort to explain the menu in English. The taste of the dishes was excellent and a vegan dish was even specially prepared. Top! Top!
