Lunenburg Waterfront is a must-visit destination for those seeking a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty in Atlantic Canada. The town's Old Town district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcases its seafaring heritage through charming 18th-century buildings and cobblestone streets. Guided tours offer insights into the town's captivating past.
What an incredible tourist town. The view at the waterfront was so beautiful. We were able to see the famous Bluenose 2 and many ships or boats to check out. This charming seaside town offers breathtaking ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere that feels like a perfect escape. Strolling through its streets, you’ll find unique local shops and art galleries filled with handmade crafts, paintings and you can take horse-drawn carriage ride, and we were able to learn about the towns unique history. The town is full of museums, sweet shops and great restaurants that offer local IPAs They also offer whale watching tours, bus tours, sailboat tours, etc. It's definitely a must place to visit! Paid street parking!

Very quaint, charming and colourful town. Cutest little shops for souvenirs and dining. Come early though; souvenir shops close early. Home to the Bluenose II 10 cent replica. It’s worth a day trip for sure and even to spend a night and watch the sunset.

🛶 The Most Picturesque Spot in Nova Scotia Beautiful waterfront with vibrant colorful buildings and a charming atmosphere. The mix of history, boats, and peaceful harbour views makes it feel like a postcard come to life. A must-visit spot in Nova Scotia!

This place is a must see for the young, the old and those whom are married and have children. Lots of history especially with fresh lobster, cod, haddock, shrimp, and scallops coming into the harbour everyday. I highly recommend this place to see for everyone.

A gorgeous waterfront! Some bars, historic ships, gorgeous colourful buildings. A lovely place to walk. Comfortable deckchairs on the wharfs with gorgeous views!

Beautiful small town with incredible ships docked in the wharf. Unfortunately the bluenose was winterized and hard to see, but still enjoyed the other boats and shops

Barbecue restaurant
Located in Lunenburg, NS, Smoke Pitt BBQ is a top spot for authentic Caribbean-style barbecue. The small eatery offers a menu featuring tantalizing options such as ribs, brisket, jerk chicken, tacos, and cornbread. Visitors rave about the natural flavors imparted by smoke and fat in the dishes. The honey butter grilled cornbread is particularly praised as a delightful accompaniment to the flavorful meats.
We had lunch at Smoke Pitt BBQ on a beautiful day in July and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Brisket Sandwich and paired it with an IPA. The brisket itself was quite tasty and the pickles and the bun that made up the sandwich complimented the flavour of the meat nicely. My son ordered the 2 meat BBQ platter and he said it too was delicious. We sat on the rooftop patio, which was pleasant on such a nice day. Overall, an enjoyable lunch.
Charles W — Google review
Very friendly staff and excellent tasting food. They were very attentive confirming that certain items were not only gluten free but that they were being served to a celiac so would take extra care. The Jerk Chicken Tacos were very tasty as was the pulled pork Mac and cheese (not GF). Located only 2 blocks from the museum. Note that there are two high bars with stools that sit about 20 and around 5 regular tables in the restaurant , so seating can be at a premium. I believe they may also have outside tables, but didn't confirm this. Prices were reasonable with most dishes in the 15-20 range. I would definitely come back again.
Shawn K — Google review
The food was incredible, all of it! The smell of this place really needs to be captured in a scented candle. What really caught my attention was the jerk chicken. Not too spicy but full of flavour. I’m going to be a return customer!

Friendly staff, very clean, food amazing, nice portions slaw was incredible, pricing fairand service was fast. Roof top dining was a great view!

Great options. Not only the brisket Mac and cheese and jerked pulled chicken was great. The cornbread was to die for. Rooftop seating overlooking the harbor was an added plus. Fast service as well.

Stopped in to pick up a rack of ribs and decided to get Elote, Mexican street corn. $7.50 for an ear of corn. 'Magin!! Since my love for smoked ribs is strong, I decided to eat the Elote first. Omg!!! The Elote was AMAZING. I was pretty skeptical that any corn could be worth $7.50, but boy was I wrong. I'm honestly thinking that next time I go, I might just order four ears for supper and nothing else. I have no idea what is on Elote, although I'm pretty sure one topping was fresh Parmesan. There's a hint of spice to add a little excitement, but I honestly don't know what was on it, nor do I care. It really was the best corn EVER. The ribs.... the ribs were good, nice smoke flavour, and the rack was huge. I could only eat half a rack with my corn. I definitely ordered too much, but I have half a rack of slow smoked ribs for leftovers. Definitely can't complain about that. The unfortunate part of my meal was eating the corn first. It ruined me for the ribs. I love ribs, I love steak, I love bacon, but this corn might be the most delicious thing I've eaten in a long time. Thank you Smoke Pitt BBQ for such an awesome supper!!
Nathan P — Google review
The brisket was tasty but with lots of fat on top. My understanding is that brisket should not have fat on it. The chips seemed stale and the 2 dips that came with the chips were surprisingly flavorless. The Jerk chicken sandwich also had very little flavour.
Pelham F — Google review
Walking by and had to stop in. As an avid bbq’er myself and enjoyed eaten in many Texas bbq establishments, Smoke Pitt is the real deal. Brisket burnt ends and the beans were outstanding. Thank you for accommodating by request to convey the elotes to Esquites: outstanding. Tacos were great and awesome being the real deal corn tortillas. Service was excellent and the passion for real bbq comes through completely in the food. Thank you and we will be back again and again.

Ironworks Distillery is a charming artisanal distillery located in an old marine blacksmith's workshop in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The distillery prides itself on using locally-sourced raw ingredients to create their hand-crafted liqueurs and spirits. For instance, their vodka is made from Nova Scotia apples and their gin incorporates local juniper berries and various botanicals sourced from the region. Visitors can explore the beautifully-decorated shop and purchase these unique products as souvenirs.
Great historical venue, amazing products and huge range. Meg looked after us very well, telling awesome stories about how each of the products came to be. Definitely worth a visit! We visited in Feb during Winter and needed the warm up, but that also meant no wait. I will presume that it is very busy in the summer though. Thanks team, I'll be back and will be ordering from you to replenish my supply!

Fantastic tour with Meg. She is so good. Very good products. Their 10yo rum and rum on the boat is very good. The vodka is exceptional. Their whisky has lots of potential and a couple of their expressions even though young are actually worth buying

We are from Connecticut, USA and visited here for our Anniversary. We did a tasting and everything we tried we enjoyed and subsequently bought to bring home. Some of it made the entire journey where others didn't make it through the night. Wish we could get your product delivered here as I would buy frequently. Keep doing what you're doing.

Ironworks Distillery is such a unique gem in Lunenburg! Housed in a historic blacksmith’s shop, it beautifully blends local history with the craft of distilling. The charm of the old building adds so much character, and you really feel the story of the place as soon as you walk in. They offer fantastic tours where you can learn about the history of the distillery, their traditional techniques, and how they use locally sourced ingredients. The guides are passionate and knowledgeable, making the whole experience engaging and fun. The tasting is the highlight — from rum to vodka to their famous fruit liqueurs, everything is top quality and bursting with flavor. It’s not just a distillery, but also a cultural experience that connects Nova Scotia’s heritage with outstanding craft spirits. If you’re in Lunenburg or nearby, a visit here is an absolute must. Highly recommended for history buffs, spirit lovers, and anyone looking for something memorable!

Had a wonderful tasting! Fantastic host & lots of great product. Highly recommend popping in & doing a tasting!

At a cute-small-unique town as Lunenburg, visiting the local distillery is just... magic. Many tourists, as myself, get fascinated by stories and this distillery has plenty. They have great selection of spirits and rum. For me, that was born in one of the most famous rum producers in the Caribbean, tasting the quality of their rum is just a high-end experience. Don't miss to come here when you are visiting Lunenburg, you'll love it!!!

Fun tour. Very in-depth and historical. Lots of tastings with a good variety of liquors. There was even "sweet" Maple rum and Maple Cream tastings for girls like me who don't like the strong stuff !!

The No 9 Coffee Bar is a well-liked establishment in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. It offers an assortment of coffee and pastries for takeout or dine-in. Operating year-round with a brief hiatus during the winter months, this cafe presents a varied menu featuring nutritious breakfast items and delightful pastries. Additionally, they host occasional pop-up dinners throughout the year to diversify their offerings.
Grabbed some cappuccinos and a mocha espresso this morning and really enjoyed them. We also had to take a mixed berry lemon scone with us plus a couple Galletes. Everything was so yummy!
Tina D — Google review
Very cute type of cafe, the sizing of the cups feels smaller than what you would usually see in other cafes though very cute in terms of a place to study. It is a home that got repurposed into a coffee shop so it feels very homey.
Steven L — Google review
Two days in a row having breakfast here, absolutely awesome. The staff are super welcoming and gave us an amazing start of the day. The kids loved the cheddar scones and breakfast galette. The streamers with different flavors make my 6 year super happy. The backyard is beautiful to sit and enjoy the morning coffee, while watching the birds flying around!
Yu S — Google review
A local recommended this cafe and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it’s in a lovely, cozy house with adorable decor. Snack options were all vegan as far as I could tell. I had an absolutely fantastic cortado, probably the best of my entire trip in NS, and a couple of the small square, chocolate dipped vegan cookies, which were a perfect complement to the coffee. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend this beautiful little cafe in Lunenburg.
S K — Google review
I was originally a bit skeptical of the pricing on the galette; but upon trying it, see how it's worth it. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie was decent; but I probably wouldn't get it again. The star was the VEGAN cinnamon bun. We're NOT vegan; but this might just be the best cinnamon bun we've ever had. I don't know how they got the dough to taste so much like brioche without dairy.

Great high quality coffee spot. Fast and nice service. Great space to hang out and work or chat with friends.

We happened to stumble across the cutest and quirkiest coffee shop in downtown Lunenburg. Lucky us, especially since it was a rainy day... :-D Great coffee, house-made baked goods but the decor and attention to detail is what made this the best experience for us! Local art, upcycled and vintage furniture, and fun decor. <3

Nestled in the picturesque Lunenburg Harbour, Salt Shaker Deli & Inn is a charming destination that offers breathtaking views and a diverse menu to cater to various palates along Nova Scotia's South Shore. Led by the acclaimed chef Martin Ruiz Salvador, the restaurant showcases the region's abundance with its emphasis on fresh seafood, locally-sourced produce, and artisanal ingredients.
We had lunch only but the food was fantastic. We finally had the Nova Scotia lox (smoked salmon) sandwich and it was great. Seafood soup was very generous. Propeller pilsner beer was a solid pilsner. We also bought some of the wall arts for home. Very busy spot but very enjoyable. Consider sitting at the bar and mingle.

Great food with a wide selection which isn't all shellfish! It's very busy so there might be a short wait for a table, but it's worth the wait. Service is quick and the food is very good. My husband and I have had the beet salad, teriyaki salmon, ham and brie sandwich pizza and pork burger. I'd be happy to recommend all of them. If you are happy to cope with the weather conditions then try to sit outside. The views are great and it's quieter.

I didn't stay here, only eating lunch here, but the people were phenomenally friendly, food was delicious, prices reasonable and atmosphere was fantastic. I can see why it's a popular spot. The location is beautiful but you will have a heck of a time finding a parking spot. When you do it's paid parking via old school meter that is fed with coins. No card. So $2 for 1 hr. Make sure you have change, which is rare these days. It's a lovely spot to walk after a hearty meal. I recommend this spot. Veggie options too so it's nice for folks that don't eat meat or fish. Service was also spot on, never having to chase anyone down. Attentive and timely. The food came out in good time as well that a party of 7 of us took about an hour from the moment we were seated to the moment we walked out. Great place.

One of the best meals you’ll eat in Nova Scotia. Excellent, inventive and fresh. Cannot recommend this place enough. My sister and I split a lobster roll, chowder and salad. Everything was delicious. Service was great and it’s got a killer view.
Jillian S — Google review
Fabulous dining experience! Came based on local colleague’s recommendation. The seafood chowder was rich and tasty and the beet salad with scallops was perfectly dressed and perfectly seared scallops. Service is friendly and attentive and we enjoyed the view of the harbour sitting on the deck.
Lee ( — Google review
Had dinner here for the first time after it had been hyped up over the years while passing through town. Service was good, very nice and attentive servers, however the food was not up to snuff. Appetizers: The crab cheese dip was 100% cheese and 0% crab; the shrimp bruschetta was served as a salad with toast on the side. Both were well below expectations and standards of such a restaurant. Mains: Fish cakes were basically mashed potatoes cakes with next to no fish detected. The Lobster roll was way too much bread and mayonnaise, way too little lobster for the hefty price tag of this menu item. Cocktail: Blueberry Mojito was the first item on their cocktail menu. It can only be described as blueberry juice as there was no noticeable amounts of alcohol or mint present. It also came out in less than a minute making us think it either came from a can or it wasn’t finished before it was served - either is possible based on our experience! Overall, it was really 2 stars but given our good service and comfortable seating in the corner at the window, that earns another star. Would not return.

Great place to eat in lunenburg. We had the burger, pear and prosciutto pizza, and the seafood chowder. I’m not a seafood chowder person normally, but this was absolutely amazing, 5/5. The burger was ok, just a regular burger, bun was a bit dry. Nothing special about it, but tasted good. The potato’s were really good though with the garlic aioli. The pizza was really good. Cool combo, never had something quite like it. Little bit too much arugula on top for my liking, but my partner didn’t mind. The vibe is great in here, and service was great, would definitely go back again

Whale watching tour agency
Lunenburg, a charming port town in Nova Scotia, offers a variety of ocean adventures, including the popular activity of whale watching. Lunenburg Whale Watching Tours is the longest operating whale watching business on the south shore and provides exciting excursions to spot minke, pilot, finback, and humpback whales as well as seals, porpoises, and dolphins.
Fun tour, chill captain & crew. Not super informative on wildlife or what we were seeing on the tour, but we did see humpback whales!! They found us the whales which was awesome & what we came for :)
Nicole S — Google review
We had a nice time on our tour. We saw a lot of really cute seals. I really appreciated hearing about the history of Lunenburg from our guide. I'd say that was definitely the highlight for me. One improvement I think they could do is have the guide be a bit more interactive with guests. It seemed like for most of the ride he was sitting with the captain.
Anthony C — Google review
We went yesterday and Didn't see whales, saw sea lions and a dolphin. I just want to say the people giving one stars are the type of people I saw on my 3hr ride that are just on their phones and sitting the whole time. My eyes and my gfs were peeled on the ocean trying to find something while 70% of the other people are looking at phones. You pay for what you get. The prices are cheaper than other places I've seen and it's not a guarantee to see whales. We drove from Ontario to see whales but that's just how it goes. We did receive short commentary from time to time as well.
Ajdo A — Google review
We have gone whale watching several times on Digby side of the province. We found this tour terrible. At no point did we see any crew member watching for whales. It was as if they knew they were not any to be seen. Saw some seals, whippee , a puffin flew by, the one crew member did give some history of area which was nice but we were there for whales. I know they don’t guarantee sightings but honestly they weren’t even looking. I would suggest save your money take the drive to Digby Nova Scotia and see some real whale watching tours with owners who honestly search for pods for you to see. This is an honest review and I hope it helps people to not spend hard earned vacation money on this tour. Sorry guys but the truth sometimes hurts. Improve your efforts
Patricia P — Google review
This was a great excursion for us. Although we didn't see any whales on this trip, we did see plenty of porpoises (or dolphins) and many seals. They staff were very knowledgeable and quite humorous. Quite an experience.
Dan T — Google review
Currently on the boat heading back to the harbour, no whales, no seals, no birds, nothing sharks, nothing. All reviews are true. We travelled from UK to see whales. It’s a scam operation, tour guy on the boat aka ‘watcher’ chilled in the cabin the whole time. They know there are no whales here. Save your cash and head elsewhere.
Zivile J — Google review
wonderful staff, well worth the adventure. got to see seals, Minke whales and a sun fish. 3hr trip.
Shaun S — Google review
My daughter and I booked this trip months ago, it was a beautiful day for whale watching. We did see some humpback whales which made our day! But there was no commentary from the two captains, they spent most of the trip on the top deck, away from everyone on the boat. It would have been much more enjoyable to have some history of the area explained, and maybe some communication with the guests on their boat.

Lunenburg offers a variety of dining options, including The Beach Pea Kitchen & Bar, Grand Banker, Old Fish Factory, Shipwright Brewery, Dockside restaurant, Ice Cream shop, Savvy Sailor cafe, No. 9 coffee bar, Rascals Run Burrito Bar and Smoke Pit BBQ shack on Bluenose Drive.
We came here for a late dinner - this place is usually fully booked, but we were lucky to get a table without a reservation. Our expectations were high, knowing that Lunenburg is known for its excellent food - and we were not disappointed! The atmosphere was cozy and full of character, and every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. Since we shared everything within our group, we can confidently say that everyone enjoyed every dish. From the starters, the standout hits were the phenomenal tuna tartare, mussels, and arancini. For mains, the scallops were a universal favorite, though the halibut and lobster were also exceptional. Even the desserts amazed us - especially the strawberry tiramisu (we didn’t even manage to take a proper photo before most of it disappeared!), along with the cheesecake and chocolate cake, which were both excellent. The service was warm and attentive - special thanks to Justin for making our evening even better. We’re only passing through, but if we lived nearby, we’d be regulars. Wholeheartedly recommended!

The food is absolutely delicious, I have to recommend the Scallop & Rabbit risotto which I the one I had. It was just the best risotto I had in my life, no doubt about it! Good options of drinks and my husband and I just loved the cheese cake we had for dessert. Incredible service, good timing and very friendly and welcoming staff. It was a bit pricey but we got what we paid for!

We loved everything about our dining experience at Beach Pea! From the cute decor to the excellent service (shout out to Justin) to the delicious gourmet food, this is a must try if you are in Lunenberg. Be sure to make a reservation as even on a Sunday evening it was very busy! Our favourites were the Sepia pasta and the scallop & lamb risotto…and of course, the desserts (if you have to choose just one, the cheesecake is mouthwatering).
Rachel B — Google review
Ate here during our one evening in Lunenburg. Was recommended by many. There was only 2 of us - so they managed to squeeze us in at the bar. But I’d recommend a reservation! Had the Carbonara Pasta, the Bruschetta and the Tuna Tartare. All was wonderful. Also had a non-alcoholic beverage that was delicious!

Fantastic food, beautiful patio and awesome service! The mussels are the best I ever had, the scallops and rabbit is a very interesting and delicious combo I have never had before. My 18 month old loved the bread dipping in the sauce and had the fullest meal he had so far during the trip! We really enjoyed the experience!

The Beach Pea Kitchen & Bar in Lunenburg is, without a doubt, the best restaurant I have ever been to. Not just on this trip, not just in Canada, but in my entire life. Everything about this place was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. The space is cozy yet refined, with a relaxed charm that immediately puts you at ease. Our server, Justin, made the evening truly unforgettable. He was kind, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. His passion for the food and genuine hospitality elevated the entire experience. We started with both fresh and cooked oysters, including the Rockefeller oysters, and they were absolutely perfect. The arugula salad was fresh, vibrant, and beautifully balanced. The pasta with shrimp was seasoned so well that every bite felt carefully crafted. Justin recommended two standout dishes—the scallops and the rabbit rice. Both were incredibly flavourful and cooked to perfection. The rabbit rice in particular was unlike anything I’ve had before, with rich, deep flavours that felt like something from a world-class kitchen. For dessert, we ordered the strawberry tiramisu, and it was the perfect finish—light, creamy, and full of fresh strawberry flavour. What sets Beach Pea apart is not just the quality of the food but the care behind every detail. It felt like every plate, every interaction, every moment was made to give guests a memorable experience. This was more than just dinner—it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I feel so lucky to have found this place. If you're ever in Lunenburg, do yourself a favour and go. I can’t wait to come back.

One of my absolute favorite spots to eat in NS. It’s small and doesn’t look like much but this a must for any foodie! The food is locally sourced and their chefs and staff are first rate. It’s an open kitchen and you can see the care and work that goes into preparing each dish (like an episode of the Bear minus the swearing!) My go to dish is the pasta sepia but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. My wife and I always share a plate of the arancini from the appie menu. Nothing about this place disappoints!!

We stopped here to eat after visiting and walking around Lunenburg, and it was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great. The only small hiccup was that I asked to switch my pasta to linguine and they forgot, but it wasn’t a big deal. I had the burrata and the shrimp aglio e olio (a heads up - it’s very spicy), and for dessert the strawberry tiramisu was the star. I could’ve easily eaten a whole cake of it, it was that good. Would 100% eat here again!

Confectionery store
Sweet Treasures Confectionery is a must-visit spot in Halifax, offering an array of delectable homemade and commercially made ice cream flavors. The aroma of freshly made waffle cones fills the air as you step inside. Customers rave about the creamy double chocolate mousse and distinct flavors like orange chocolate and peanut butter eureka. Despite some feedback about the texture being slightly icy at times, visitors appreciate the reasonable prices and friendly service.
I had a late dinner, and didn't get to the shop until less than 15 minutes before closing, right behind a group of five others. But the staff was still quite cheerful and friendly, and the ice cream was delicious! Their freshly made waffle cones deserve special recognition, because they don't leak out of the bottom like so many others. A wonderful shop!

We stopped by Sweet Treasures Confectionery and got four 2-scoop ice creams with different flavours. While the shop has a fun, nostalgic vibe, the ice cream was a bit of a mixed experience. The orange pineapple and mango flavours tasted very artificial—definitely wouldn’t recommend those. The other flavours were okay, but nothing particularly special. It’s a decent stop if you’re craving something cold, but we’d suggest sampling before you commit to a full cone.

A darling spot in the heart of Lunenberg offering a gift store in front and a robust ice cream offering in the back. The space is extremely clean and bright. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The range of flavors of ice cream was amazing. 5 x 🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨

Great place for sweet treats. We had ice cream and ice cream shake. Very delicious. Staff is very friendly. Cleanliness is up to the mark. Highly recommended if you are visiting. The place also had a great view to the shoreline. They also had cute set up for pictures.

This ice cream is really good. The flavors are all top tier, and the cones are literally made infront of you. They taste so good but they are a wee bit britle and crumble if you squeeze too much. I also found the ice cream itself melted really fast even though we enjoyed it on a regularly tempature seaside evening.

Sweet Treasures Confectionery in Lunenburg is an absolute gem! Their homemade ice cream and treats are out of this world—rich, creamy, and full of flavour. Seth makes every visit a pleasure with his warm, friendly demeanour, always greeting us with a smile. Our Irish Wolfhounds are spoiled too, thanks to the thoughtful pup cups that make them feel just as welcome. A must-stop spot in town for both people and pups!
