Elizabeth Park Conservancy in West Hartford, Connecticut is a delightful destination for nature lovers and families. This historic park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offers over 100 acres of green spaces, gardens, and a renowned rose garden featuring 15,000 rose bushes with 800 varieties. Visitors can also enjoy greenhouses, tennis courts, a pond, playgrounds for kids and athletic fields. The park's Pond Cafe provides a pleasant dining experience amidst the lush foliage.
We love this Rose garden. My mother was so happy to be here. She loves the flower so much and put a lot of effort into gardening and to her this place was a dream place to be. The kids enjoyed it as well. We had a relaxing time. The best time to visit is mid June I would say. You will get a splendid family pics here.

This over 100 acre park with its stunning rose garden is a wonderful way to spend the day. Entrance is free and it is opened 365 days! We visited on a Sunday afternoon in early autumn 2025 and were pleased to see some roses still in bloom. There are over 800 varieties of old and new roses. The best time to see them in full bloom is mid June to early July. The rustic gazebo is stunning and makes for great photo opportunities. The are paved, level walking and biking trails all around and trees throughout are identified. There is plenty of green space to relax and enjoy the peacefulness. The Asylum Street entrance brings you to the to the rose garden, pond, bridges, perennial garden and greenhouses. Beautifully clean and well maintained park for all to enjoy.

Beautiful space and well maintained gardens. Would recommend getting a couple of jersey mikes subs and coming here for a picnic. Ample free parking and lots of trails to explore. Great for birding as well. Always lots of people doing photo shoots which is nice.

A beautiful park, and the several gardens are really something to behold. The roses were mostly gone when we went, can't imagine how stunning they are in bloom. Came here specifically to give David the tour guide five stars - so warm and friendly, and clearly has a real enthusiasm for sharing interesting history about the park. Definitely take the tour if you go.

Beautiful park in West Hartford near the border of Hartford. Elizabeth park has a large rose garden in addition to many other varieties of flowers. Lots of greenery as well as a small pond to stroll by. The park is clean and well manicured with many plant varieties. There are open spaces for playing sports and the atmosphere is relaxed. At the center there is a gift shop as well as several buildings with ball rooms which can be rented for events.

Went not thinking thered be much to see, but the roses are still going & beautiful, but my gosh... the mums they have... I may have a new 'favorite flower!' They have every possible color combo & different styles!! They really are worth going to see!!

The most beatiful garden I have ever visited. I had some quality time with my family there. The park and the roses were amazing. I still have the smell in my nose.

Elizabeth Park Rose Garden

Garden
The Elizabeth Park Rose Garden features a formal layout with arches, paths and a central gazebo that is often used for weddings. This large park boasts stunning displays of flowers during the springtime and is a popular destination for dog walkers who enjoy strolling around the garden. Visitors can also admire the many ducks in the park's pond and enjoy picnics at one of several designated spots with picnic tables. In addition to its paved trail, there are opportunities for cyclists to ride through the picturesque scenery.
My partner and I visited here recently with our dog. Even though the roses were a bit past time, it was incredibly beautiful. It was a very hot day and an impromptu visit, so we didn't explore much. But what we saw was impressive. There are so many varieties and smells. There were parties and walkers and others enjoying it all. We didn't realize dogs were not allowed to walk near the roses (although we were very careful with him), so we won't do that again! We can't wait to go back and see more of the park. The gift shop has beautiful items too. They are pricey but support the park. The woman who worked in there was so nice because she sold me a hat that was hidden away. If you are ever visiting the area, it is a must do if you love flowers.

wow. what an amazing site. my family and I were looking for a place to killed time and came across this magnificent center. it was filled w beautifully decorated flower arches, colorful bushes, endless array of plants & trees - and the best part was it was all free! this spacious venue offers different walking trails & paths, luscious green grasses for picnics, and an abundance of scenic greeneries for photos or to escape to sun under the shades. we were in awed despite the peak bloom had passed, there were still enough to sight see. there were even at least 3 wedding parties taking place at different parts of the garden! please come and enjoy what a truly remarkable establishment and do remember to leave it how you find it: no trash, litters, or graffiti and markings. keep this place beautiful & majestic. can't wait to come back and see the rose garden in full bloom! also - herbs garden was very intriguing. their soft serve ice cream was top notch!
Sebby S — Google review
This garden is magical. It sweeps you away and transports you to a fairytale of beauty and endless aromas. I had such a wonderful time on my visit and took plenty of pictures. Everyone i passed seemed to be as entranced as I was with the display of roses. There were smiles on all the faces older and younger. I would encourage people to visit.

The Helen S. Kaman Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park is absolutely breathtaking! It’s the oldest public rose garden in the country, and you can really feel the history and care that goes into preserving it. The arches covered in roses, the vibrant colors, and the fragrance in the air make it such a peaceful and magical place to walk through. There are so many different varieties of roses, along with other beautiful gardens nearby—perennials, tulips, hostas—that make every corner worth exploring. The Conservancy clearly puts in so much effort to maintain the space, and the story of Helen S. Kaman helping to save this garden makes visiting even more special. I recommend going in June when the roses are in full bloom—it’s stunning! A perfect spot for photos, relaxation, or simply taking in the beauty of nature. Definitely a must-visit gem in Connecticut. 🌹

My daughter got engaged in beginning of October in the gazebo. It is an absolutely beautiful park many flowers blooming. Then to the restaurant for a luncheon after. Joe the manager was very pleasant and easy to work wish and the food was exceptional. Our photographer Sam, The Inverted lens, did an awesome job at capturing this special moment.

Beautiful rose gardens and grounds! There are other gardens here as well that are absolutely stunning and worth seeing. We were here on an overnight in town on our way back to PA from ME and I was so glad we stopped. Well worth seeing!

Wonderful place to enjoy nature and beautiful gardens. We enjoyed walking most of this park and walking through the rose garden. It was a little late in the season so the roses were coming to an end but it was still beautiful and very enjoyable.

The Mark Twain House & Museum, a National Historic Landmark located in Hartford, Connecticut, is a must-visit for literature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This stunning Victorian home was the residence of renowned author Samuel Clemens and his family from 1874 to 1891. It’s here that Twain crafted some of his most iconic characters while calling it the 'loveliest home that ever was.'
Wonderful tour in Mark Twain house. We got the Living History Tour (a little bit more expensive). The tour guy dressed as a Twain’s friend and gave detail history regarding Mark Twain and friends/family dynamics throughout the time. The house/furniture are in great condition. No photography inside the house. It’s a long tour involving going up and downstairs. They are very thoughtful and put out some chairs throughout the house for those who need it. I recommend it when you visit Hartford CT. It’s a good place to learn more about the famous author. One of the best historical tours I've ever been on (and I've been on a lot)! So much rich history and too many stories to tell in just a 1-hour tour. The property is well kept, and the house is restored to as much genuine detail as could be. Plenty of parking, folding chairs in each room for those who cannot stand for long periods of time, and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Tour tickets are a bit pricey but definitely worth it! No photography allowed inside the house, so get ready to take mental snapshots....you won't want to forget!
Cheri B — Google review
The Mark Twain House & Museum has a sprawling campus with different exhibits and tours. Plus, if you're a local, they have plenty of ways to visit for free. We did the General House Tour. Beth was our tour guide, and she was fantastic! A five-star guide, and I would highly recommend you request her if you go. She was knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about Mark Twain's life, which brought everything to life on the tour. I particularly enjoyed how she covered the real story of who he was: the good, bad, and ugly. She was very kind and patient with our 3-year-old niece who was on the tour, and helped get her involved. The house is pretty cool (I wouldn't recommend for young kids though... or adults with severe ADD). I'm not a big fan of Mark Twain, on account of him being negative after his visit to the great state of Utah, but coming to this museum helped me realize he was kind of just a jerk to and about everyone. The gift store might be the real highlight. There are some great gems here (I featured some favorites). A vibe I got from some of the employees was they were super passionate about history and Mark Twain's life, but having visitors to the museum was a necessary evil. That was from some, but not all, which is a fun irony since Mark Twain probably felt and acted the same way. I chalked it up as creating an immersive experience. If you like Mark Twain, history, or architecture, definitely plan your visit.

Immaculatly restored historic home where Mark Twain and his family resided for 17 years. Parking, the museum, gift shop, cafe and grounds are all free to check out. There are only guided tours of the inside and there are no photos or videos allowed of the inside. We purchased tickets ahead on line. The regular tour lasts about 1 hour. The home is absolutely gorgeous and the history fascinating. You do not need to be a literary genius or even a fan of the author to appreciate the history of this home and the family.
Denise A — Google review
Great experience. It's a must for any literature, architecture, or Victorian fan. The house is stunning, and the stories and fantastic. No photos allowed in the house! Makes the experience more memorable to be honest. One of the great quoted figures of all time.
Michael S — Google review
Absolutely AMAZING. Alex. Our tour tour guide, was informative and humorous. If you're a Mark Twain fan, it's truly a necessary stop, because it's the only home that Twain truly thought of as his. He said about the house, "To us, our house was not unsentient matter—it had a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals and solicitudes and deep sympathies; it was of us, and we were in its confidence, and lived in its grace and in the peace of its benediction." It was so cool to see where he worked, played with his kids, spent time entertaining, and lived for so many years. Note for those who have mobility issues: there are a lot of steps to climb. If you're unable to climb stairs they will only be able to accommodate you on the first floor and then you'll have to exit the tour.
Shadra B — Google review
When I was young I used to read a lot of books and some of those were by Mark Twain. It is a wonderful place where you can see it originally from creation and see the atmosphere where author was built it. Nice architecture and magic in the air.

Great experience visiting this museum. Olivia the tour guide portrayed herself as “Susy Clemens” one of Mark Twains daughters, she did an excellent job, i felt that i was in the presence of Susy herself. She knew a lot of the history and took us back in time.. If anyone is planing to visit the museum, it’s worth spending the little extra fee to have the experience, i highly recommend Olivia as the tour guide, you will learn a lot and she will make you laugh.. The house is beautiful, has so much details and is well maintained.. Simply a great experience!

Blue Back Square is an extension of West Hartford Center, inspired by Noah Webster's Blue-backed Speller books. It seamlessly blends retail and residential spaces, offering dozens of chain stores, a movie theater, and various dining options. The area is lively throughout the year and features a mix of shops including Crate and Barrel, a dog bakery, and excellent eateries. Additionally, it houses a library, theater, Whole Foods store, and offers entertainment during warmer months.
Just love it! I went to Whole Foods Market with my grandson when he was around 13. He picked out food items I never saw him eat before. Everyone who worked there was approachable, knowledgable and showed us exactly where to find the items we were searching for. I am glad we chose to shop there.

I love walking around Blue Back Square. It’s beautiful, clean, and artsy, with plenty of lovely spots to sit and relax outdoors. There are several nice eateries, including my favorites: World of Beer and The Place 2 Be. The area also has an outdoor stage for live performances. Though not expansive, it’s quaint and perfect for families.

Clean, ample parking. Safe. The West Hartford fair was fun. Very packed. There were so many different business stands. From schools, churches, dental, food shops, you name it, it was probably there. There was also a great live music performance going on. The ride tickets were priced high. But there was fun for everyone.

Everything was absolutely amazing- from the host Ida (so welcoming), to our server Robert (super hospitable but also made great recommendations), and of course the dishes we had were so so good, everything was DELICIOUS!! We had the crispy duck fat potatoes for an app, I ordered the short rib and my husband had the mac and cheese with blackened chickened, the banana cheesecake for dessert- delish. I can’t believe I’ve been in the area for over a decade and had never been here! 12/10 recommend!

What a lovely place! We came here as a party of 2 on a Friday night and it was packed - good thing we had a reservation! We came here after dinner for drinks so this review is just for their drinks. We came here because we were interested in their large wine selection! We loved that the menu allowed for smaller servings because this way we got to try more wine. Our server was great and knowledgeable about the wines. We had such a great experience. I definitely want to return to try more of their wines and the food!

Excellent excellent. Truffle popcorn and risotto balls to start. I had truffle Mac and cheese with short rib which was amazingly delicious. My husband had a burger. Service was great. We come here to meet our cousins once a year and it gets better every time.

Wow that was a solid lunch. Ate once at their sister restaurant in Longmeadow and had to try this food. We had the special chicken sandwich and it was really tasty. Fried chicken with some delicious sauces and perfectly cooked fries. A wonderful lunch meeting with great service and quiet. Not many people choose to eat early here apparently. The menu looks amazing and I'll come back with my wife to enjoy more of this menu. Well done.

Been here a couple of times and I'm never disappointed. Very sophisticated atmosphere. The wine selection is huge and the servers are always ready to give you outstanding recommendations. Some of my favorite things on the menu are the truffle popcorn, tuna tartare, and the truffle mac & cheese. I do recommend making a reservation prior though because I have been turned away service before on their busier nights.

Pond House Cafe is a sophisticated restaurant located in Elizabeth Park, offering creative New American cuisine and a delightful brunch. The venue has received high praise for its magical ambiance and exceptional service, making it a popular choice for special events. While some have found the food to be satisfactory with limited vegetarian options, others have raved about the delicious dishes and impeccable presentation.
The food, people and atmosphere was amazing! Beautiful view while eating. The menu offered both inexpensive and a little more exspensive options, all of which sounded fantastic. The popover pot pie was amazing! The popover su day was to die for! Definitely somewhere worth stopping! We ended up going twice!

We recently had our wedding reception at the Pond House and it was nothing short of amazing. The staff at the Pond House, especially, Charlene, Diana and Alissa, just went above and beyond for us. Alissa, our wedding day of coordinator, was very personable, professional and detailed. She was so on top of everything and very communicative leading up to the big day. She ensured that everything ran smoothly and that we were all well taken care of! She also did a wonderful job helping our garden wedding vision come to life! Besides, the amazing staff, the venue itself was just stunning with the beautifully decorated banquet hall, bringing the outside beauty inside. We loved having our cocktail hour outside on the terrace and then the remainder of the reception in the main hall. The food was absolutely delicious! From the perfect cocktail hour bites to the buffet options (people raved about the beef tenderloin and nut encrusted salmon!) to the drinks, they hit it out of the park. As foodies ourselves, we were so happy to have such tasty food (which is tough to find when serving 100 people!). Overall, we would highly recommend the Pond House for the attentive and generous staff, amazing atmosphere and fantastic food.

We were married at the Pond House just yesterday, and our wedding was, quite simply, PERFECT. The venue was amazing, they worked with us on a relatively short time frame (less than 6 months), relatively small wedding (40 guests), and it couldn't have gone better. Our guests loved it, it looked spectacular, the food was on point, and I especially cannnot say enough about the staff. I am writing this from our honeymoon suite, and we're still kind of basking in the glow. Thank you so much to everyone at the Pond House for helping to make our day a huge success! Ceremony pictures were done professionally, so we don't have them yet, but I'm including some shots from friends and family to show how wonderful the venue looked on the day, and how much fun everyone had.

I had my wedding reception here in June, and it was absolutely spectacular! Leslie was an incredible wedding coordinator who made everything seamless and stress-free. I had a rental and no time to set up, but Leslie handled it all and created such a beautiful setup. She even made sure my husband and I had time to eat! From setup to breakdown the next day, everything went perfectly according to plan. And the food, truly 10/10, it became the talk of the town!

Great little place for a relaxing lunch. We sat outdoors because the weather was gorgeous and we had just walked the park. They were closing in 30 mins when we arrived but they were able to seat us quickly and surprisingly it did not affect our service. My friend and I shared a salad and sandwich and it was wonderful. The drinks were good as well. They were preparing for a wedding that evening and it looked like it was going to be beautiful.

I had brunch today at Pond House Café and the experience was wonderful. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. I loved that we were able to reserve our seats easily through Open Table, super convenient. I tried a mimosa that was absolutely delicious and some crab benedict eggs that were amazing 😋. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and the lovely atmosphere. Definitely a place I would go back to and recommend. 🌿✨

We got married at The Pond House in September 2025 and cannot recommend this venue highly enough! It was everything we dreamed of and more. From the very beginning, Alissa and Diana were a joy to work with — organized, responsive, and genuinely invested in making our day perfect. They made us feel like family throughout the entire planning process, and their warmth and care made all the difference. Every detail was thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed. Even when a bit of rain rolled in, the team handled everything flawlessly. They transitioned our cocktail hour indoors without any stress, keeping the entire day seamless and enjoyable. The staff was incredible — professional, kind, and so accommodating to our 160 guests, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The venue itself is absolutely stunning. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the gorgeous gardens, the walls of windows overlooking the pond, and the warm, inviting atmosphere. And the food — truly exceptional! Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. From the breathtaking setting to the outstanding staff, amazing food, and the feeling of being truly cared for, The Pond House exceeded every expectation. We are so grateful to have celebrated our wedding there and will cherish those memories forever.

Their lobster bisque is super good. I had the mixed platter with fried fish, shrimp, and fries. Everything was perfectly cooked, and the scallops were incredibly soft and flavorful. For dessert, we tried the chocolate mousse cake and their apple crisp (I don’t remember the exact names 🤣), but both were incredible. Definitely coming back — great experience all around!

First time here and I walked by it twice and thought something is gravitating me here and it did not disappoint! The oyster was delicious and came out pretty fast. The food was amazing and tasted so good! The service was good and quick! I’ll sure be back again !

Came here from a reccomendation and it did not dissapoint. Really cool atmosphere and extremely professional servers. That being said, definitely comes with cost. We started out with the grilled octopus which was cooked perfectly. I wasnt a fan of the sauce and beans but everything else was solid. I also got the oyster sampler which was great. They had them all aranged in order so you knew which was which and all of them had very distinct tastes. The card was spot on for the flavor. I ended up ordering 6 more of the ones i liked as well as the scallop ceviche which was fantastic and fresh. My friend ordered the jerk mahi mahi even though he normally doesnt like fish and he absolutely loved it. I ordered the lobster bisque as well which was so rich and tasty. Overall this was a solid place, a little pricey considering how close to the ocean we are (for the oysters at least) . Once again though the service was top notch! Our server was on top of everything and very friendly and professional. One last note, the key lime pie was terrible. Not tart at all so i dont even think ot was key limes. The crust was super thick, and it was likely one of the worst key lime pies I have had in a long time. The creme brulee however was on point! Thanks everyone

Chill vibes. Gorgeous inside. They have wonderful food for all types of eaters. My husband loved the oyster sampler and hotpot. I had the roasted chicken. Very good. I loved the creme Brule and the hot tea options. Our family had the steak and salmon. No complaints. Wonderful knowledgeable staff. Great drinks. I liked the punch it best.

One of the classiest restaurants but still affordable. I like the settings of commodity. Not like some restaurants that have wooden chairs and tables in the middle of the room. It was comfortable and enjoyable. They have separate room for occasional use that can fit about 25 people. Menus of two variety. And I love dessert menus. Stuff is very nice and assisting. They're patient in explaining your needs professionally. Love outside sitting as well.I would recommend this place to people to give a shot. Parking is little tough to find but manageable.

Great place to dine! The food was amazing and the oysters were so fresh! Only little mishap was trying to seat us next to the front door when we had reservations for a birthday dinner, we had to ask twice but they finally moved us to a better location where we could enjoy our dinner. Would definitely dine here again!

Wow what a place! This is a must go, most see for yourself, must eat and drink. It's hands down one of the best restaurants in CT. Check them out ASAP.

The Half Door is a modern Irish tavern known for its updated pub food and wide selection of imported beers. It's a popular spot with live music, DJs, and a lively atmosphere. Visitors praise the exceptional service and delicious comfort food, like flavorful chowder with big potato chunks and hearty shepherd's pie. The generous portions make it easy to bring leftovers home.
Wonderful drinks, excellent food, but most importantly incredibly hospitality and service. This place quickly became a local favorite when moving to the Hartford area- and I have consistently enjoyed my visits here, whether grabbing happy hour, seeking a community oriented evening of live music(W-F-S), or enjoying a delicious Sunday brunch with bottomless Mimosas or Bloody's. The staff is fun, friendly and innovative- happy to engage in creative cocktail conversations, plan interactive Monday evening game nights (darts, Jenga, Mario kart, magic the gathering, paper airplanes- you name it!), fulfill goofy Saturday-night-karaoke dreams, and serve up a delicious and filling (vegetarian for me *) chili on game days. Without a doubt my favorite corner of the west end- and forever destination for all future CT * Saint Patricks Day * celebrations- I highly recommend Half Door to all! Grateful for the care and atmosphere fostered by the staff here- allowing any newcomer to feel welcome and home- just every Irish pub should! As a vegetarian I highly recommend the*V* Brussel sprouts for appetizers, and the spicy Avocado Benedict during brunch (YUMMMM)- but have seen huge and happy smiles from my meat-eating friends when ordering the Chorizo brunch wrap. Delighted by all the connections made at this local- whether local artists and musicians, passionate and community-building graduate students, and long time regulars who all combine for a wonderful time.

Such a good local vibe here. Very good happy hour prices and they run this every day from 3-6 except for Monday when they run it ALL day! I’m always in favor of $3 wine. The Cabernet was rich and delicious! Karaoke is the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. I just don’t see or hear The Irish here. Some menu items maybe but fish and chips is British so I don’t know what else is ethnically correct. The atmosphere is cozy though and the service is good.

I have yet to go to Half Door and not find it crowded. Service is ridiculously slow, but it's always such a fun time to be here. I especially come here for early morning English Premier League games because they not only show all the games, they actually put the audio on! Good tap list too. Fair warning, parking is near impossible to find.

What happened to you guys? Your reviews are stellar but my first and only time I paid $35 for rude service (indifferent service to me but I saw your girl berate a couple for asking if lasagna on the menu). Inedible food, it even smelled bad. You didn’t even close the carry-out box lids...

I came here on a Friday night with friends while in the area to enjoy a happy hour. We found parking right out front and were able to walk right in. The place is casual, relaxed and a good atmosphere. The waitstaff and bartenders were friendly as well. The happy hour menu didn't have much, 2 beers and one cocktail and then three food items. I wish that there was more for the food for specials and we ended up getting things off the regular menu. A bit pricey for what it was and the food was alright. One of the patrons sitting at the bar was pretty drunk and kept talking to my friends and I, it got a little uncomfortable. But we did our best to ignore him until we left Overall the place is alright, a bit pricey for things not on the happy hour menu.

I had the pub burger. It was perfectly cooked. The fries were really good as well. The staff was very friendly and funny. It had a true Irish pub atmosphere. Multiple sports on multiple tvs and scarves from the local soccer team hanging above the bar. Great experience. If I lived in the area, I would likely become a regular.

Bear's Smokehouse Barbecue is a popular local spot known for its mouthwatering smoked meats and sandwiches, along with classic comfort sides. The restaurant is a haven for meat lovers, as it prides itself on expertly smoking and barbecuing meats to perfection. Chef Jamie The Bear McDonald has carefully crafted his own sauces and rubs, ensuring a unique and flavorful dining experience.
Pulled chicken and pork are excellent with the Kansas sauce. Baked beans are delicious, as is the mac 'n cheese. Served cafeteria style as you walk down the line with a tray, we ate an early dinner on a Saturday evening, and it seemed most of the crowd at that time was from the convention center (which also brought us!). Weekdays are probably very different. The rave reviews are accurate.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ as a wedding vendor on several occasions, and I can honestly say they are one of the best in the business! From start to finish, they make the entire process seamless and stress-free for both the couple and the wedding vendors. One of the things I appreciate most is how easy they are to work with. Their team is incredibly professional, responsive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything runs smoothly. Whether it’s coordinating with the event planner or making last-minute adjustments to the menu, they’re always flexible and easy to communicate with, which is key for a smooth wedding day. When it comes to the food, Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ absolutely delivers. Their barbecue is second to none—the flavors are rich, the meats are perfectly smoked, and the sides are equally amazing. The guests at every wedding I’ve attended rave about the food, and I always hear how their barbecue elevates the entire dining experience. From the smoked brisket to the pulled pork, everything is consistently delicious and high-quality. It’s the kind of food that really leaves a lasting impression. What I also love is how versatile their catering options are. Whether you’re planning a casual outdoor barbecue wedding or a more formal celebration, Bear's Smokehouse BBQ offers a range of menu options that can fit any style. They make it easy for couples to customize their wedding catering to fit their vision and budget. For couples looking for a wedding caterer that not only provides exceptional food but also makes the entire process easy and enjoyable, I highly recommend Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ. Their food, service, and professionalism make them an outstanding choice for any wedding celebration.

Stopped by tonight after a recommendation from a friend. Wow!! Did not disappoint!! Staff was extremely friendly, especially Richie in the dining area who was hustling and making sure every single guest has what they needed and ensured a positive experience!! That guy is what every business needs!! Food was AMAZING!! I'm kind of a BBQ snob, but this stuff was on point!! Highly recommend the Bear Balls, I feel like if you don't have them, did you even go?!? Don't hesitate stopping here, you'll be happy you did and leave very full!!

Food was amazing and service was great. One of the staffs, Richi was a very hardworking young man and came to our table and also went to other tables to ask if we need anything. He was quick and fast to give us the things we needed. He has a genuine smile and willingness to help others. It is very important to have an employee like him in a restaurant and we really appreciate him. Thx and we will definitely recommend this restaurant to others.

The service and staff wad excellent, layout of the place is large for large groups and theres a bar. The food is already made. There was 2 items i wanted to order ,Texas sausage and potato salad, but not available. So I settled for brisket and sausage with Mac and cheese. The Mac taste like under cooked velvetta, hard noodles , the sausage was terrible . Brisket was ok just a little cold. The beans taste great , the ghost pepper sauce was good. If it wasn't for the staff being so nice I probably would've rate this a 2 based off not having food availability and the taste of food.

Sad times at Bears Hartford these days. They used to have a great rotating beer selection and an amazing collaboration with Nebco for custom brewed beers. Lately they have many tap lines out of commission and other out of stock problems like no white wine (could only offer rose as an alternative), no NA beer..etc. Been visiting regularly for years and this never happened before. Feels like they are either going out of business or just not paying attention to inventory. If the problem is the latter I'd recommend management to look at what worked well in the past. Good news is the food quality remains top notch. Love the seasonal chili and wish it would be a permanent menu item.

CT really needs a new BBQ place. Bears is great, however the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have gotten higher. And it’s more or less weighed out, so some of these folks just can’t add. Very unfortunate. Staff serving food and behind the register was not very friendly (minus the guy cleaning tables and the woman doing takeout). Out of cornbread… out of baked potatoes… waited 20 minutes for an order of wings that I had to go up to the counter to get. Laughable when it asks for a tip at checkout. That would imply some kind of service was provided. Do better, please!

Came here Friday and today (Sunday, July 20th) to eat during the Connecticon convention. Really love the bear motif going on here and the food was delicious! Though two of the employees were kinda going at it on Friday, it didn't really caused any problems when it came to making my food.

I had the true pleasure of celebrating my birthday here on 4/26. I was a solo diner, but Sarah treated me with the same enthusiasm, kindness, and dignity as I imagine she would any other table. She was so helpful in guiding me as I chose my plates and had such a bubbly and cheerful attitude throughout. Her quality service was truly exceptional and made me feel comfortable and relaxed as I enjoyed my meal. The food was phenomenally superb! From the blackberry bourbon sidecar, crab and lobster cake w basil pesto sauce, to the scallops and lobster asparagus risotto, and finally the coconut cream pie 🤤🤯 If you’re looking a great meal w great service, I highly recommend stopping by!

We went to The Capital Grille for drinks and dessert and chose to sit at the bar, which turned out to be the highlight of our evening. We ordered espresso martinis, and they were absolutely delicious, perfectly crafted and well-balanced. What truly made this visit unforgettable, though, was the exceptional service and genuine connection we had with the bartenders. Chelsea and Kyle were incredibly personable, warm, and engaging. They didn’t just serve drinks, they created an experience. At their recommendation, I tried the coconut cream pie, something I wouldn’t have ordinarily ordered. I’m so glad I did because it was out of this world, rich, creamy, and perfectly indulgent. I would highly recommend not only the drinks and dessert but the entire experience at the bar. Chelsea and Kyle, thank you both for the fantastic conversation and the memorable evening. You truly elevated the visit.

I wish I could explain how much of a compliment it truly was to the Chef that my son ate his burger. The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, established in 1842, is the oldest continually operating art museum in the United States. Located on Main Street in Hartford, Connecticut, this exceptional museum features over 50,000 American, European, and contemporary works of art. Its extensive collection includes paintings, porcelains, sculptures, American Impressionist paintings, French Impressionist paintings and modernist artworks. The museum also showcases decorative arts and furniture from various periods.
The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, located in the heart of Hartford, Connecticut, is a remarkable destination for art enthusiasts and history lovers alike. As the oldest continuously operating public art museum in the United States, it boasts an impressive legacy that is beautifully reflected in its distinctive, castle-like architecture—a striking landmark that sets it apart from other institutions. Came here to see the Final Fantasy symphony!!! I've been so excited to see them again and this time they performed at the Bushnell, which is a beautiful theater in a clean and well maintained location. The theater itself is quite large and at the time provided many different amenities, including valet (which we used. It was very straightforward and easy to locate), merchandise, multiple food and drink options, as well as a professional staff who were all friendly and helpful. They offered assistance for directions as well as gave information on future performances that we might be interested in. The bartender was very quick which I appreciated considering the long line she was tending to. The staff inside the theater who helped guide everyone to their seats greeted us with a smile, and helped maintain an orderly seating process. It was a very positive experience for me and I think most other attendees. Also, it was nice to see some people dressed up both in cosplay, and in more formal outfits. And I appreciate the uniform that the staff were wearing. I think it made for a more authentic, symphony experience. I'm looking forward to coming back and hope to see the other theater next time.

We had a great time watching the opening of Hamilton 2025. The staff that met us at the entrance to the Bushnell to the staff taking us to our seats made the event even more enjoyable with their professionalism and friendliness. One staff member allowed me to take pictures before the show started as it was not allowed during the show. An IPA beer and bag of peanut M&M cost me $14 so be prepared for airport pricing! The seats were very comfortable and the view was excellent (see pics). Plenty of on-site parking (garage and lots) in the area. The show itself was outstanding with one exception, at times it was hard for the audience to understand the 140 words per minute singing from the cast. I felt there needed to be more speakers in the middle of the building to address this problem, but what do I know. Five Stars despite the sound issues.

Absolutely an amazing place to go see a play. Well kept and very clean. However, the seats are rather small. So, if youre a taller person (I'm 6'4"), the seating is cramped. I had to sit almost sideways because my knees were not fitting. Lol.

I saw Hamilton for the first time today and it was fantastic! I sat in the Mezzanine section and I was quite pleased with my view. The cast and crew put on an awesome performance! The ushers throughout the building were also so wonderful and kind. The charity pitch at the end of the show was also so heartfelt and I wish you all the best of luck in your fundraising! I would definitely like to come back again to see another show!

Great old style theater work modern lighting and acoustics. In town for the music educators conference at the convention center, the Bushnell was the ideal venue for orchestral and concert bands as the culmination.
Christopher T — Google review
Beautiful building. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Parking is easy and free in a well lit area close to the building. The show was very well done. Seating in the last row of the theatre begs for opera glasses and leaves the view blocked by tall people and those wearing hats. Long lines for the bathrooms at intermission. Very tight seating, which may be typical of a classic style theater.

El Pollo Guapo, with two locations in the Greater Hartford area, is known for its amazing rotisserie chicken and creative Mexican options. Glad I listened to other reviews and got the crispy brussel sprouts. They're so crispy to the point where the texture is like roasted seaweed. The dark meat chicken was good but needs to be eaten with the sauce. Overall I was satisfied with my meal for $14.

Ordered a 1/4 chicken with Brussels and handsome rice. Specifically got dark meat because I don't like dry chicken. The chicken was dry and flavorless. The Brussels sprouts were greasy, overcooked, and underseasoned. The rice was good. The prices would be reasonable if the chicken was good, and there's a nice selection of interesting items on the menu. I'll maybe try it again in hope they were having an off day.

A little pricey for what you get, but everything in my bowl besides the chicken was great. The brussel sprouts were the highlight since they were almost crispy enough to taste like dried seaweed or chips. The chicken was really dry and only a couple of pieces were unceremoniously placed on top of everything else.

I was looking for a romantic restaurant that my boyfriend and I can celebrate our 3 year anniversary and I am so glad we ended up at Peppercorns Grill!! From beginning to end it was a lovely experience! Hercules was our server and he was so attentive! The food was delicious. We’re looking forward to coming back.

Great food, reasonably priced for the quality. Big wine menu, creative mixed drinks. We got there at 4:30 and service was very quick, but that didn't change as the room filled up toward 6pm. Nice and close to the Bushnell, which is why I picked it, and offers a 15% discount on entrees to Bushnell ticket holders. Recommended over all.

What a gem in downtown Hartford! We had a fantastic meal here and I will absolutely be keeping this spot in mind for dinner before or after a show at The Bushnell. We visited the day after Valentine’s Day, so we were able to take part in their crab and burrata salad, as well as their fig and ricotta special appetizer of the day. We were so impressed at how tender the veal ossobucco was, and the ravioli I had were so unique in an orange citrusy sauce. Our homemade biscotti even came with chocolate truffles made in house! Our server was very professional and attentive, and the restaurant was so beautifully decorated. Since this was my first time, I’m not sure if it was decorated just for Valentine’s Day, but it definitely was a nice vibe for our date night!

We never received our dinners and had to rush out to make a show at the Bushnell. We were starving by the time the show ended at 10:30 pm. The waiter knew we had a show to get to and assured us we had plenty of time (we arrived 90 minutes before show time). This is NOT the restaurant to go to before a show or if you expect to receive your meals in a timely manner.

My family went here recently and had a negative experience. The appetizer we were given was not the appetizer we ordered. We mentioned this to the waitress, and it was not taken off the bill. We ate it anyways since we were hungry, so we didn’t have a problem with this. At the end of the meal, we were given our check and we paid, however our card was charged for the wrong table’s bill. The other table’s bill was larger than ours, so we noticed it when we were given the receipt to sign. Upon alerting the waitress, she corrected it. The waitress we had was working very very hard and covering many tables. I assume she was spread too thin, thus causing these issues. Overall, this was a very negative experience for such an expensive restaurant.

Fabulous dinner! From start to finish, we had a wonderful meal! Arincini, meatballs, figs, calamari, and artichoke appetizers were awesome. And, our entrees were sooo good. Truffle pasta, short ribs, and Chicken Saltimbuca were fabulous! Great restaurant!

I came here with my boyfriend for happy hour before seeing a show at the Bushnell. Happy hour ran from 4 to 7, which was great sense it was in extended time frame compared other restaurants nearby. They had drinks anywhere from $5-$7 and good appetizers. There was only one person behind the bar however and I think that made service a little slow, because it was really popular night. However everything was delicious and I'd recommend it.

Peppercorns grill is certainly a special place the food the atmosphere ,and the service. my waitress was amber ,and she certainly made my night special with her great service the food was amazing and so were the drinks. I got the rigatoni allá vodka and the tagliolini with saffron and shrimp. I would highly recommend going to peppercorns. I hope my review helped you.

The covered patio with large windows provides a unique outdoor dining experience even on rainy days. The service was quick and the food was delicious. My wife ordered the scallops and I had the Italian Rustica salad with Salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was relaxing and interesting to absorb.

Beautifully decorated restaurant with bar downstairs and outdoor patio seating. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. I ordered grilled prawns which was flavorful but the shrimps were not fresh. My friend ordered pork knuckle. According to her, it’s okay. If you get tickets to a show at Bushnell, you could get 10% off. But you need to ask the waiter person.

When it comes to the specialty cocktails, they offer a verity of options. Minor drawbacks include freshness of the garnishes. Unfortunately, the quality of the dishes fails to meet expectations. The empanadas resembled mass-produced frozen entrees rather than being freshly prepared. The nachos in particular were disturbing. There was discrepancy between menu descriptions and actual offerings. The pico de gallo was nowhere to be found other than 3 pieces of diced tomato. They came out with large pieces of wilted lettuce under warm (not hot) melted cheese. Beans were all cornered to one side of the dish.

I felt badly for the staff. There were way too few of them . . . which is not their fault. We waited for over 15 minutes before a waiter took our drink order AND another 15+ minutes for our drinks. The food was good . . When it finally arrived! It took 30 minutes for our appetizer to arrive . . . and it was wrong! When our meal finally arrived, it tasted good. The table next to us had to leave before their food arrived!! They ordered well before us, and we were half finished with our meal when they left . . without any food having been delivered.

Beautiful restaurant. Great ambience. We came on a Friday evening with a large group and service was very good. There was live music which is always a plus. The drinks were fantastic, I had an old-fashioned, which was very good, but a little on the sweet side. The salmon was fantastic and had a strong mustard taste, which was to die for, if you enjoy mustard. The steak Frites were good, however, the temperature they were cooked at varied greatly, despite what was requested. One friend received a well done steak instead of the medium rare that she had requested. I would certainly go back whenever I visit Hartford, which may truthfully be never again.

Really fantastic food! Nice ambiance with a small dining area upstairs and a good size bar downstairs. The Brussel sprouts appetizer was good but needed to be a little more crispy. We tried the pork belly BAO buns, which were phenomenal! My wife got the salmon and I got the mushroom pancetta linguine. Both were very good. I will definitely be coming back for more.

What a great hidden gem. We came to grab a quick drink on their patio during this beautiful day, and were amazed to see a very unique interior. The decor was awesome and the freaking bar is in the basement! We didn’t try any food, but they have a huge selection of drinks. Lots of great beers on tap and in bottles, and tons of options on the rocks. I’m looking forward to coming back.

Food took forever with no one else in the restaurant. Incorrect food order. Açai bowl was an abomination. Calamari tasted worst than a burned tire. No draught, just cans. I can’t cook but put me in the kitchen chef. Servers are very nice though.
