Paia in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Paia, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Paia is a laid-back former plantation town on Maui’s North Shore, known for its colorful wooden storefronts, surf shops, and local boutiques. Nearby Ho‘okipa Beach Park is famous for world-class windsurfing and for watching sea turtles that often rest on the sand. The town offers easy access to the start of the Road to Hāna, making it a convenient base for exploring Maui’s lush eastern coastline. A mix of casual cafés, health-food spots, and local restaurants reflects Paia’s long-standing bohemian and surf culture.
With favorites like Lower Pāʻia Park, Milagros Food Co., and Flatbread Company, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Thai Spice LLC and Kūʻau Store so you can get the best taste of Paia while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Seafood restaurant
Restaurant
Mama's Fish House, located on Maui's north shore, is a renowned local landmark offering a seafood-driven Hawaiian menu and stunning ocean views. The restaurant has received accolades such as being a semi-finalist for the 2018 James Beard Foundation Awards and ranking as the second most popular restaurant in the U.S. on OpenTable. With daily farm-to-table deliveries, their menus constantly change to showcase fresh, locally caught fish as the star of the show.
Mamma’s Fish House truly delivers on the experience — the food is fresh and beautifully prepared, the drinks are excellent, and the service is warm and attentive. Everything feels polished and full of aloha spirit. That said, the price point doesn’t quite match up — it’s definitely on the higher end, and some of the dishes feel a bit overpriced, which makes it seem more about the hype than pure value. Still, the overall experience, atmosphere, and views make it worth visiting at least once. It’s a Maui classic and a must-do spot on the island for anyone who wants to enjoy a memorable meal in a stunning setting.

Just finished a 5 day trip to Maui w my wife and this was an absolute highlight. One of the tougher reservations to get, booked ours far in advance, expectations were high — i was worried. After eating here & experiencing the service, I now understand what the hype is about. You can see this isn’t just a restaurant , it’s an institution & has this refined confidence about them — been here for years, they have perfected the service & food offering. Complimentary valet, a beautiful private beach, and a great ratio of staff to guests. My wife, 25 weeks pregnant & eats plant based, had many options curated for her & i can genuinely say, being from California where vegan food is plentiful, she’s never had more options at a traditionally seafood heavy restaurant than she did at mamas. 3 different entree’s, custom & thoughtful adjustments — our server maile made us feel comfortable from the minute we sat down. The Maui onion tomato salad w/ the 18 year balsamic is something I’ll be making in the future as it was just simple & executed perfectly — again, refined confidence. I also got the octopus dish that was well seasoned and had bright flavors to it - would recommend. There was a hiccup in my wife’s entree & it was handled superbly — immediately took the dish back, expedited a new dish, and when it came out, they gave me a sauce to rewarm my meal as they saw i waited for my wife’s food to come out. Just awareness you don’t see that often. I got the stuffed amberjack w crab & lobster w macadamia hit crust and it just blew me away — simply the best. We had such a good time we bought a t shirt !

This place was awesome! So many people told us to go here when we were in Maui and it did not disappoint! The view was incredible and the food was delicious! Their cocktails are amazing too! Brad took great care of us and was kind enough to take a photo of us when we asked him. They even gave us a thoughtful note at the table since they knew we were on our honeymoon! Would definitely recommend. Make sure to get a reservation early as in before you even leave for your trip! They fill up quick. Also go during the day or at least before it gets dark so you can enjoy the view!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Best Dining Experience of the Year From the moment we arrived at Mama’s Fish House, everything felt special. Valet parking was seamless, we were warmly greeted, and our hostess led us to a beautiful booth with a stunning ocean view. To celebrate our honeymoon, the restaurant even placed a personalized placard at our table — such a thoughtful touch. Despite being one of the busiest restaurants on the island, the atmosphere at our table was calm, relaxed, and perfectly timed. Drinks never sat empty, dishes arrived with precision, and if the staff felt rushed, we would have never known it. The service was flawless — warm, attentive, and truly seamless. The food? Absolutely spectacular. Every bite was fresh, creative, and perfectly prepared. From start to finish, you could tell this was fine dining at its peak, but still carried that casual, beachside warmth that makes it feel authentically Maui. Reservations are a must — we booked three months in advance, and it was more than worth it. Even though it took us an hour to drive there from where we were staying, I would happily make that drive every day if it meant dining here again. If you’re visiting Maui or have something special to celebrate, Mama’s Fish House is the place. This is the pinnacle of what dining should be: thoughtful, welcoming, delicious, and unforgettable. It’s not just a meal, it’s an experience I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

We had multiple friends recommend Mama’s when we said we were going to Maui. I was a little worried it might be overrated after seeing some comments on Facebook, but it was not overrated. I was contacted a couple days before the reservation to ask my husband’s name (so they could put it on the card on our table). There is mandatory valet parking. Every person that greeted us after valet congratulated us for our honeymoon. We were given a table right by the window with a stunning view. You are given bread & soup shot. For an appetizer, we ordered the crispy kanpachi collar. For entrees, we ordered the Mama's Ahi And Mahi-Mahi Curry & Hawaiian Kanpachi With Lobster And Crab In A Macadamia Nut Crust. We did not have any room for dessert. No, the food was not cheap, but it was absolutely delicious & is a lot of food. The waiter was so nice to take a few photos of us. The restaurant is also by a cute beach & we were able to see a sea turtle! I definitely would recommend Mama’s to anyone coming to Maui!
Nicole L — Google review
Incredible meal, incredible views, incredible service. We had the crab cakes and lobster bisque to start, the curry(always on the menu), whole line caught fish with a black bean reduction. They offered fried fish nuggets and buttered noodles for the little one. Crisp and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was prepared and presented to perfection. The view was from our table. After dinner it is just feet away from the beach for sunset views. No turtles when we were there but I've heard they are frequent visitors. Mama's is a complete experience and you should expect the cost to reflect the quality you are going to receive. Complimentary valet parking but remember to tip the staff. They are hustling to park everyone in a very small lot. If you're going to Maui, make your reservations MANY months in advance, save up, and enjoy this incredible experience.

We stumbled upon Mama’s Fish House while heading toward Ho’okipa Beach Lookout and decided to try it for lunch after seeing the massive number of glowing reviews. It absolutely lived up to its reputation. When we pulled in, the valet-only parking felt unusual at first, but it quickly made sense—this place runs like a well-oiled machine. The valet team directs all traffic and only allows parking for actual diners, which keeps everything organized during their constantly full service. We arrived around 2pm and were told there were no seats available but that we could check back in about 45 minutes. We drove to Ho’okipa Lookout, killed a little time, and when we returned we were seated right away. Seamless experience. We sat in the lounge area—not directly beachfront—but still had a great atmosphere and view. Prices are definitely high, but the food and service justify it. We started with drinks: a Mai Tai and a specialty cocktail. For appetizers, we ordered the prawns wrapped in wonton and the beef served inside a papaya. Both were outstanding—perfectly cooked prawns and an incredibly flavorful beef dish that ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. For mains, we had the mahi-mahi and a salad, and both were exceptional. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Our server was fantastic—great at describing the dishes and using language that genuinely enhanced the anticipation. To top it off, after lunch we walked down to the beach and spotted a turtle resting on the shoreline, which was the perfect ending to an already amazing experience. Overall, Mama’s Fish House is pricey, but the food, service, and entire atmosphere make it absolutely worth it. A true Maui must-do.

Our group loved every moment of our experience at Mama’s Fish House. From the moment we arrived, the warm aloha spirit, stunning ocean views, and beautifully curated atmosphere made us feel like we’d stepped into something truly special. The food was absolutely superb — every dish was fresh, flavorful, and artfully presented. You can truly taste the care and local pride in every bite. The service was equally impressive — attentive, friendly, and perfectly paced, making the whole evening feel effortless and relaxed. Mama’s Fish House is more than just a meal; it’s an experience — one that captures the heart and beauty of Maui. We left full, happy, and already dreaming of our next visit!

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Maui's North Shore, Paia Bay Coffee & Bar is a delightful retreat that combines a relaxed atmosphere with delicious offerings. This charming café and bar serves up an array of breakfast options, sandwiches, and salads made from fresh, local ingredients. With its cozy garden seating surrounded by lush tropical plants and handcrafted wooden decor, it feels like a hidden oasis just waiting to be discovered.
Spent a great deal of time reading menus online looking for a good veggie burger and finally gave up and just started walking around reading menus as we passed by. My teenager was very excited to see the taro burger on their menu. We both got the taro burger with fries and we're both very happy. The burger was delicious. Fries were also delicious. Highly recommended.

Was recommended and praised for their espresso Martini from another local shop, so we decided to stop in and try. Wow! They have a very tasty Espresso Martini and we also shared an order of pulled pork loaded Nachos that were also amazing! And on top of that our server was awesome and, we had Monday night Football on!!! High recommend you to stop in.

I loved this place so much. The vibe was great super relaxed. Football was on the TV's. Very comfy chairs that will actually fit your butt. Also the best macha latte I've had on the island so far. Our waitress, Jade, 😍😍😍🖤🖤🖤! Amazing. So nice. So helpful. Just the best. The food was phenomenal. Great breakfast. Just enough to be stuffed. Great variety as well including vegan and gluten free options. It seems they have something going on every night as well! Bingo on Tuesdays, trivia on Wednesdays, and karaoke on Thursdays! So much fun. 🖤

Cool open air bar near the end of the Paia downtown area. Great spot to catch a mainland game. We had the pork nachos. The meat is very sweet and they could be more generous with the toppings. Not very crowded at lunch on a weekday. Perhaps fewer tourists walk down to eat here and stay closer to the center of town?? Large open space with some outdoor seating around the edges. The town is great. There are 2 scooped ice cream shops in town, 1 Gelato spot and 1 shaved ice place. Visited Paia 3 times during our 6 day visit.

After a day at Baldwin beach and being ripped off by an unscrupulous taxi service….my group was hesitant in deciding where to go. After being cursed at crossing the street by some dodgers fan transplant we decided to split groups and come on over here. Due to the groups hesitation..I rallied 3 to come inside this place. Man I was awestruck by the spaciousness of the interior. We had rapid service and waters poured after being parched walking about. Our server was a gentleman from New Jersey originally who treated us kindly and was attentive to our requests. The coffee here was superb along with the varied culinary options offered. I ordered a special pork sandwich with spam that was just the correct amount of heat spice! This place is rocking and the servers were so polite! Staff was welcoming and food scrumptious! I could give 10 stars honestly! Well worth it!

Came here on thursday afternoon with my family. Although they semmed very understaffed our waitress with the short hair was very sweet with my kids and even gave us sightseeing and shopping advice. Made the whole experience 5 stars for us. Food portions were generous and delicious. We will definitely try to come again before we go back home. Would recommend sitting outside on the couches if you can.

The atmosphere was relaxing and very chill. Service was great. For food, I got the Mahi Mahi Burger. It was okay. The fries were large in quantity and very crispy. However, they were very dry, so I suggest bringing a water bottle if you get the Mahi Mahi. I ended up having to buy two small water bottles at 4$ each. The Mahi Mahi burger was 22 dollars. While the amount of fries was huge, the actual burger was pretty small. It was nice, real fish - probably locally caught, as well. However, it was dry, just like the fries. Which wasn't a real problem, just I didn't bring water. The food wasn't bad and I would say it was okay. The service and atmosphere made up for it, so a four star experience. Sadly, I won't be back.

Writing this review while I am waiting for server to come ask for our order. We have been waiting for 30 minutes now. And it’s not even that busy. The server clearly took orders from two locals who came way after us. The server looks overwhelmed and inattentive. Got the coffee order wrong. Avocado toast was decent, but not worth 45 mins of wait.

Restaurant
Charley's Restaurant & Saloon is a beloved Maui establishment that has been serving up American comfort food and hosting live music since 1969. The cozy, old-timey restaurant is adorned with photos of famous musicians like Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson, who is known to make occasional appearances. The spot exudes a laid-back vibe that attracts both locals and visitors alike.
Before we headed up to the road to Hana we stopped of at Charley's, in Paia, and it turned out to be a great idea. The portions are a good size for the prices. The pancakes are incredible, I had the macadamia one, plan on sharing though because there huge. That Moco Loco was ridiculously delicious and the build yourself omelette rocked. Plan on stopping by and treating yourself, family and friends to and amazing meal.

Great little place full of awesome art and memorabilia from Willie Nelson and friends! Breakfast was nice and the prices are fair. Decent portion sizes made it easy for us to manage the Road to Hana without having to stop for snacks along the way. Server was super nice and went out of her way to be kind to my friend's 81 yr old mamma and make her feel welcome.

I stopped here for breakfast before hitting the road to Hana. Charley’s was really unique and I enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. I ordered Charley’s World Famous Pancake and wow, it was not what I expected. The pancake was HUGE 😱😂 and it was sooooo good. No lie, probably the best pancake I’ve ever had lol. There’s lots of interesting art around the restaurant and even a giant replica of Willie Nelson’s guitar, so that’s a plus. If I were to do the Road to Hana one more time, I’d definitely stop here for breakfast again. Highly recommend 👍🏼

We had the Fish and Chips and the BBQ Cheesesteak and both were really good. Cool vibe and not super crowded during the lunch hour. We're from Austin and huge Willie fans!
Jess T — Google review
Really cool place, food was mediocre at best. Was there early in the day so I didn't get the real vibe. I'm sure it's a great place for live music. I'd go back for an evening. But if you're looking for a meal there are plenty of other places to go.

Charley's ROCKS! Outstanding service, fresh and delicious food, great ambiance! In Maui for a few weeks of September to get married, we spent a four day weekend in Pa'ia and ate at Charley's every day... sometimes twice. Not for lack of other places to eat in the area (*ahem* don't really wanna dig on the competition but....) Anyway! We did the road to Hana a week later, and yup, we just had to randomly stop at Charley's for breakfast, this time with a party of 12! They handled us with such ease and grace, every, single, time. We basically tried everything on the menu ... original party of 2 went to 4 went to 6 then 8 and well, just trust me on this one... everything we all collectively ate over the course of those five days was surprisingly great, even in rush hour crowds! And absolutely reasonably priced - you're in Maui - don't fret over a bit more than you're used to, just be happy to support the local economy. Can't go wrong here, Charley's will be our first stop next time we visit!
Cheryl F — Google review
The breakfast food was very good, but it seemed a little dirty - like our table and def the bathroom. Also, it kinda smelt weird, but our waitress was very friendly and the food came out fast.

What a fantastic place to stop. Owned by Willie Nelson and has some of his memorabilia hanging on the walls along with some cool paintings of him and other celebrities who have visited. I chose the banana bread French Toast with coconut syrup. Ok. Can we talk?! Lol. That has to be the best French Toast I have ever had. This is a must stop place before heading on the road to Hana.

Scenic spot
Ho'okipa Lookout is a must-visit destination on Maui's North Shore, offering an incredible vantage point to witness the thrilling spectacle of surfers and windsurfers tackling the waves. While not suitable for novice swimmers, this spot provides a safe and comfortable environment to soak in the action from the beach. The lookout is conveniently located just off Hana Highway, making it easily accessible without worrying about rough terrain.
This beach look out is amazing. We arrived at 6:30am on Sat 1/3. Quite a few surfers were already catching the waves. You can't really see the sunrise from here, blocked by the mountains, but walking along the rocky shoreline is the memory I'll keep for a long time. We got some spam musubi from ABC for breakfast and enjoyed this magical place for over an hour.
Carl W — Google review
This is a beautiful place to see the ocean hitting the beach. But the star of the show are the turtles laying on the beach. Follow the signs and leave them alone. But they’re amazing and huge. Initially I thought they were rocks but then I zoomed in and realized they were turtles. There were also chickens and walking around which was pretty cool. There are portable restrooms here. Overall it’s a great place for a nice view and some cool sights and breezes.
Eddy S — Google review
Great elevated view of the beach area from a slight rock face. Looking down you have a first class view of the surfers both board and wind as they try to catch the elusive natural power of the ocean and air. You could spend awhile here if you like to watch.
Mike S — Google review
Great spot to watch the surfing action. If you walk down the hill to the bathroom area, there is a nice lookout to see the green sea turtles on their corner of the beach. Parking was a challenge when we went but mainly because there was a major windsurfing championship taking place.
Andrew H — Google review
Whether at start of Hanna or end of Hanna Hwy day this is great place for it. We stopped here after day of hiking at poli poli and waihou springs then lunch at flatbread company just so I can see the turtles and my husband could laugh at me for seeing one through the trees and walking faster because I didn't really expect them to be there. They were. So cool. It was cool to watch wind surfers and see the ocean so blue and beautiful. So many people coming for the turtles was cool but to the lady who felt the need to have a video phone call about your cruise trip....that was rude and you should have went over to the picnic tables so that others that waited all day to experience that with their loved ones don't have to listen to you talk about your shopping and how hot you thought it was.
Heather P — Google review
Nice place to see the sea turtles (Honu) basking and the surfers surfing. Nice view as well. Don’t miss the fresh coconuts from a local seller. They were so sweet and yummy. The seller can split open the coconut to enjoy the delicious coconut jelly/meat.

Ho'okipa Beach Park is a spacious state park and surfing spot with a beautiful white sand beach, picnic areas, and pavilions. It's located along Hana Highway and is famous for windsurfing and contemporary surfing. Visitors can watch surfers from the Hookipa Lookout or enjoy the beach where Hawaiian green sea turtles often come to rest on the shore.
Cool beach to watch the surfers and the wind surfers. Less so for swimming. The bonus as you get to see lots of sea turtles. Nobody follows the rules and doesn’t keep a 10 foot distance as they should even though the section is cordoned off. So sad to see that people can not read simple instructions. Well worth going to this cool beach. Free parking and lots of locals so it must be good right?!

Good parking and nice to sit and watch the surfers. It’s beautiful to look at because of the turtles and the ocean! But it is not a swimming beach. And it is good for surfing only if you are a well-seasoned surfer. Lots of rocks at the shore!
Rovi B — Google review
Beautiful beach to see the sea turtles, watch surfers in action and just enjoy what the ocean has to offer. A little too rough for snorkeling or a relaxing dip, but fun for buggie boarding and offers a pretty view for the sunset.

Great beach. The ability to stay up top or go down on the beach is really nice. There are showers here. There are lots of surfers and people who know where they are going and what they're doing. Still great to visit and just chill.

Very strong winds!! Amazing views of powerful waves. Lots of surfers and other water activities. Popular area! And the best part of it all... Numerous sea turtles enjoying the warm sun in the late afternoon into the evening on the beach! A must visit if in Maui!

Good parking, easy to walk down. We went just to see the turtles resting on the beach which was easy because there are a ton just laying there plain to see. Photos are good to take and the beach looked clean although we didn’t go on it. Not much else to say, but it is cool to see all the turtles just hanging out if you’re in the area.

Went here at noon time. Only checked the lookout. The view is pretty. Saw many turtles on the beach. Many surfers on the sea. Parking lot is full when we arrived but not hard to wait for someone to leave.

Visited Ho'okipa beach park as part of the road to Hana tour with my partner in May 2023. We loved the beach park, specially all the sea turtles we saw. The views of the west Maui mountains from the beach were stunning. The sea wasn't too rough closer into the beach when we visited, so probably would be good for swimming and snorkeling. May not be suitable for kids with there being alot of rocks at the edge of the water, I think the sea is usually a bit rougher though. So maybe lucky and can could snorkeling or swimming if it's not too rough, Surfing is popular though a bit further out but probably for more experienced surfers though. The beach park has ample parking, restrooms, showering facilities and pic-nic tables with some sheltered from the sun etc. So if your in the area or on your way or back from the Hana tour even if it's not for long. I would highly recommend visiting Ho'okipa beach park, even just to see the turtles resting on the beach Remember and give the turtles plenty of space, there are usually markers to give them there space. I would definitely go back if I visit Maui in the future, Steve and Jacqui fae Fife.

Thai Spice LLC is a charming restaurant located in downtown Paia, offering a blend of traditional Thai dishes and Hawaiian-inspired flavors. The cozy wood interior creates a relaxed setting for diners to enjoy their meals. Known for its extensive selection of vegetarian options, the menu features popular Thai classics such as pad thai and green papaya salad. Visitors can expect generous portions and authentic flavors, with standout dishes like green curry and pad see Ew receiving high praise from patrons.
We stopped here after driving the Hāna road. Friendly, prompt service and amazing food! I had the basil fried rice with chicken and my husband had crispy shrimp stirfry and they were both excellent. We like Thai food and we both thought this restaurant ranked in our top one or two Thai restaurants. The eating area is small, clean, and not fancy. I went down to 3 stars for atmosphere because an air conditioner blew on us the whole time.

Great Thai place for dinner after coming back from road to Hana. Tried the vegetarian Tom Yum soup, Pad Ke Mao and basil fried rice with Tofu. Felt soup was quite big size. Rest of the dishes were appropriate portion. Service was great. The place however has very limited seating option. We went around closing time and had seats available.

Fools they were. Another couple walked into Thai Spice right after us and as soon as they saw the restaurant mostly empty, they walked away. They have no idea what they missed. Within 15 minutes, the restaurant of 6 tables was full. I ordered Thai Basil Chicken and asked for Pineapple to be added. It was delicious. If you like spice but also like to taste the flavor, ask for Medium spice. My wife ordered Yellow Curry and she loved it. Love to find these small mom and pop restaurants while traveling. Thank you to the owners for the great experience!

Great food! My wife and I really enjoyed it here. There’s not a lot of seating so don’t be discouraged when you walk in. One of the best meals we had on Maui. I got the Thai cashew nut with Beef with extra cashews and she got the Veggie drunken noodles.

Haven't left a review in a while but the food here was so good I had to come back. This unassuming hole in the wall thai food has almost no business making such good food!😍 Fyi I generally eat a lot of thai food in Sydney and Singapore. Excellent pad see ew, a contender for the best pad see ew I've ever had. Savoury, sweet, just enough oil, and the wok hey is amazing. Panang Curry was also excellent. One of the best meals I've had in Hawaii.

Food tasted as great as much more expensive, high end Thai restaurants. We are vegetarians and they made sure there was no egg, fish sauce or seafood in our food. Also the food was made fresh for us. 10/10

Although we were not so hungry we tried this place and we experienced nothing but delicious food. We ordered Green Papaya salad which was mouth watering and Green curry which turned out to be delicious. Overall amazing thai food. Will go again when I visit

Nestled along the scenic route to Hana, Kūʻau Store is a charming pit stop that perfectly blends convenience with local flavor. This delightful store, adorned with surfboards, serves as an essential waypoint for adventurers heading towards breathtaking beaches and lush landscapes. It's particularly known for its delicious gluten-free plate lunches featuring slow-cooked Kailua pork paired with rice and a refreshing green salad—an ideal choice for those on the go.
If you’re on the road to Hana, or just in Paia you have to stop here. The poke is awesome. A great selection of a lot of great local products. And we had their coffee. OMG…cappuccinos and mochas helped for the drive. Nicki made ours with definite aloha. We’re from Kona so we know she knew what she was doing, so good. Even gave us pointers about where to check out along the drive. Mahalo!

Really an out-of-the-ordinary store with incredible food choices. Freshly made sandwiches, excellent coffee, and local baked goods that are always fresh. They even have poke, plus a great selection of alcohol and soft drinks. Truly a cut above anything else in the area. Perfect stop for snacks, breakfast, coffee, or lunch—and a great way to support small/local businesses and producers.

Ok it’s been 9 years since I first visited (and my only time as I was on vacation from Chicago) but I had the best breakfast burrito of my life here and I’ve been dying to go back. It was unexpected as this was our first stop on the way to Road to Hana for snacks. The burrito was life changing.

Stop here for grab and go food. Great selection of sandwiches, salads, and yummy desserts. The employees are friendly and kind. No bathrooms, but it's well worth going. Please leave a big tip, they work extremely hard to maintain this level of goodness in their food. Excellent drink selections and homemade cookies and banana bread.

Japanese restaurant
Nuka is a sleek Japanese venue offering a diverse menu of small plates, sushi, specialty rolls, and a variety of drinks. Located in the sleepy North Shore town of Haiku, it's popular among locals for its seriously fresh sushi and izakaya-style eats. The restaurant serves unique twists on traditional rolls like the Lollipop roll and offers Asian-inspired dishes such as wasabi fries.
As we went to the Road of Hana to explore the Twin Falls we discovered this Japanese restaurant was on the way there. Food was excellent. Cute little place. Staffs were wonderful. Sashimi was fresh. Our tummy satisfied.
Amenita T — Google review
Nuka in Haiku offers a cozy, stylish setting with a menu that leans into Japanese classics. While the sushi and rolls were just okay — fresh but not particularly memorable — the meat skewers really stood out. Perfectly grilled and full of flavor, they were a great surprise and easily one of the best parts of the meal. The real highlight, though, was the miso cod - buttery, tender, and deeply satisfying. It alone is worth coming for. Service was solid and the space has a nice ambiance, making it a good choice if you’re in the area and looking for a relaxed dinner with some standout bites.
JonLuca D — Google review
Delicious sushi spot upcountry. My first time dining at Nuka was outstanding. The highly quality of the fish was noticeable. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs were very warm and friendly. The service from our waitress was okay- she wasn’t the friendliest. Our food came out quickly after placing our order which was awesome because we were hungry! We didn’t have a reservation upon arrival and waited about 15 minutes for a party of two. Its indoor dining only and the space is on the smaller side. There is sushi bar seating as well (about 10 spots). We enjoyed the ceviche and mocktails from their evening specials menu, along with the dragonfly roll, maguro nigiri and ahi salad from their regular menu. We’ll definitely be back.
Melinda — Google review
Dined here many many times. The food was always amazing, some of my favorite cocktails, and there has almost always been high quality fish. The waitlist operation is inconvenient, but if you’re willing to get through that then bear in mind you will be treated unkindly by the servers. On multiple occasions I have had horrible service. It’s hard to say how many times i’ve actually enjoyed any service i’ve received here aside from the people that ran the food. Servers are miserable, rude, stuck up, and they do not have any sense of recovery after being rude. It’s unfortunate that I don’t have it in me to leave a bad tip so i’ll always leave 20%, but after my last negative interaction, I will never be returning. It’s unfortunate as the food and drinks are great, sushi chefs are talented, the food runners are nice and friendly, but your server staff is consistently rude and ruins the entire experience. Don’t come here if you want decent service.

Before Nuka, this place used to be a Napa store and before that a mini market store. ATMOSPHERE: They're located in a free-standing building on Haiku Road just across the street from the Haiku Cannery mall with lots of free parking. The Asian decor fits the restaurant perfect. It's a small open-air room that fits maybe 50 people max, with regular tables and sushi bar seating. RESERVATIONS: They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait during peak dinner hours especially on the weekend. FAVE FOODS: Karaage Chicken Very small portion but very really good. The chicken was very tender and the light karaage batter was delish. Chicken Katsu Donburi I am a fan of this place after eating this dish! The rice is laced with a sweet/salty soy flavor, topped with a over-hard fried egg cooked in the same sauce, topped with deep fried & super tender chicken katsu strips and finished off with thinly sliced nori. DEELISH! Tempura Shrimp Udon I simply love noodles, so this was an easy decision for my second time here. The broth is a bit sweet but very good (I am NOT a fan of sweet broths but this was an exception). Accompanied by a generous amount of shrimp, green bean, onion and mushroom tempura. Ahi Katsu Donburi Delicious rice dish flavored with a sweet-soy seasoning which is topped with an over-hard fried egg, and chunks of breaded and seared ahi. I personally would've liked to have the ahi cooked all the way through which would make the dish more visually pleasing, though it's still very good overall. Portion size is perfect. SERVICE: Everyone has been great all these years. OVERALL: Maui's best Japanese restaurant.
Maui T — Google review
Food is always delicious, definitely my favorite restaurant on Maui… Our service last night went above and beyond, had a great time and enjoyed every bit of it.
Lelia — Google review
I've been to Nuka twice. Once a few years ago (it was excellent), and this past weekend (it was not). Service: We showed up a few minutes after they opened and scored one of the few open tables. We sat for 10-15 minutes waiting to place a drink order. What we later learned was our server was busy with a table seated after us. I had to ask a different employee for our server. She eventually arrived and didn't apologize for the delay. The service from this point was ok...clumsy, not horrible, but def. not gracious. Cocktails were delivered with no napkin to absorb the sweat off the glass. I've worked the front of the house in fine dining and It felt like the staff receive minimal training, and are delivering food as they would bowls of cereal to their children. Lots of staff only carrying 1-2 items at a time - ie a lack of efficiency. Food: This was better. We tried the miso butterfish, a tempura appetizer on the specials menu, and a variety of sashimi and sushi. These were well prepared, and made up for feeling like they didn't care if we were there or not. Salmon sashimi was not fresh, and remained on the platter after it was sampled. The remainder was fresh and tasty. Summary: Due to it's location and status as the only sushi restaurant for miles, I think management has decided they are busy and customer service doesn't need to be prioritized. That's true until it isn't, and competition appears. Our bill for two came to nearly $250. Did we feel like we got our money's worth and look forward to returning? No.

Seafood restaurant
Paia Fish Market Restaurant is a popular eatery located at the corner of Hana Hwy. and Baldwin Ave. It's known for its casual nautical theme and focus on delicious seafood, plate lunches, and fish burgers. The restaurant offers about 6 fresh fish varieties daily, prepared in various ways until they run out. Some favorites include blackened Ahi sashimi and Cajun-style Opah burger with wasabi butter and cheese fries.
The food is great and you will love your food. The fish is fresh and reasonably priced for such a popular tourist spot. I ordered the red snapper sandwich and the homemade tartar sauce was so good, I could have drank it! My husband got the fish tacos and he said they were awesome! Mahalo! However, regardless of what time you come, expect to wait in line at least 20 minutes before being able to place your order. Also, with the windows open and no AC, it can get very hot inside the restaurant. Overall I give it 4.5/5 stars. Highly recommend 👌
Alissa R — Google review
Tried Paia Fish Market on our way back from Hāna — arrived Sunday around lunchtime and, while the line was long, it moved surprisingly fast. They run a tight operation: after ordering, food was served within 5–6 minutes. We ordered the catch of the day (Mahi Mahi) — Cajun-style and blackened — along with rice, Caesar salad, and fried calamari. The fish was undeniably fresh and seasoned to perfection — flavorful and satisfying. However, considering the portion size and pricing, it felt a bit overpriced. Staff were attentive, but not particularly warm — perhaps due to the rush of tourist traffic. Just a heads up: this isn’t your typical laid-back, no-frills island shack — it’s a fast-moving, high-volume operation. Overall, I’d recommend it for the quality of the fish, just set your expectations accordingly when it comes to vibe and price.

The literal best fish sandwich I've ever had in my entire life. Great menu to choose from. Many options on how you want your fish. Everything was fresh. Homemade tartar sauce. You're gonna wish you could take a bucket of it with you. The staff is SO nice. They will take care of you. Also get the local fruit drink. Get it. It's so good. The place is very comfortable. Great stools that actually fit your butt and very clean. Sit at the window bar and you can people watch. We will be going back, definitely. Update: we went back almost every day of our stay.

Considering there aren’t many places where you can get something actually bearable to eat (for a non-American belly), this spot really stands out. Fresh food, real (not frozen) fries, and a surprisingly not-sweet-as-hell iced tea make it absolutely worth a visit in Paia. Especially since Mama’s Fish House is so overhyped it’s impossible to get in. Eat here instead :)
Mateusz S — Google review
Great place to get fish at very reasonable prices. Went with the mahi-mahi cajun spices and cajun rice. The coleslaw is sooo good, caught me off guard. The fish was super fresh and delicious. There is always a line, but the seating comes up fast. The service is counter and everyone is friendly. Super happy we stopped in here. You should too!

The food was delicious! It is pricey but you do get a lot of food, the portions are big in my opinion. The restaurant itself is small and has limited seating. It also had no air conditioning so your sweating while eating. Regardless I would definitely add this restaurant to your list of places to try while in Maui it was worth the money and wait!

This place was actually recommended by a store guy! Glad we decided to try it. As usual you order at the counter and then find a table to sit. The food was actually bought out fast. Mainly seafood options but they did have chicken dishes. It tasted really good too. Very very generous portions. We had leftovers!! Definitely recommend this place. It does get busy.

Milagros Food Co. is a laid-back Mexican eatery located in Maui, offering generous portions and sidewalk seating for a bustling street experience. This family-owned restaurant boasts an extensive tequila selection, with over 30 options to choose from. Their margaritas are highly praised as the best on the island, and they also offer a variety of cocktails and beers. The daily happy hour features great deals on drinks and bar bites from 3 to 6 pm.
Best fish tacos I have ever had in my life. Drinks were so good too. Atmosphere was simple and we loved every minute of it. Worst part of it is that we fly home tomorrow and there is nothing close to this where we are from. You in Maui, go to Paia and go to this restaurant. You will not regret it!!!

I've been here a few times. ATMOSPHERE: The inside was hot as it's open-air, with a small bar and high top seats. Definitely sit outdoors as it's protected, cooler and great for people-watching. MENU: Mexican apps, salads, fish, Mexican entrees, burgers. FOOD: Shrimp Quesadilla The shrimp was fresh and quite generous, but unfortunately the cheese easily overpowered their natural flavors. A ramekin of chili pepper aioli came as a dipper and wasn't spicy at all. Though not listed on the menu description, a small salad came to the side. SERVICE: Our female server was friendly, professional and checked on us often. Drink service was a bit slow. OVERALL: Touristy, fun vibe, fair pricing, okay food.
Maui T — Google review
Stopped here for happy hour on our way through. Serves Mexican inspired food but far from authentic. Margarita $5 was very large and for the price was fine, skip the salt as they just use normal table salt (I guess I expected course salt?). Happy hour snack of the day was a taco salad and for $10, really can’t complain, but was similar to something I’d make at home out of an Old El Paso kit.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Hurtful and Unwelcoming Experience We were excited to try this place and came in with good intentions. After sitting down and then deciding to get our food to go, the attitude from the host changed sharply. Instead of understanding or professionalism, we were met with hostility—eye-rolling, snapping, and an overall sense that we were no longer welcome. We weren’t offered water or any service, and when a kind server did come by to offer us water, the host actually drove him away and, shockingly, called us “nothing.” She also told us she had to turn away other tables because we were seated—even though we were there for a very short time and saw empty tables around. To top it off, a tip was demanded, despite the absence of any hospitality. This experience felt not only unprofessional but needlessly demeaning. We’ve never been treated this way in any dining establishment. We hope this feedback leads to some reflection, and that no one else is made to feel as small and disrespected as we did

Milagros Food Co. in Paia is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was electric—laid-back island vibes mixed with just the right amount of lively energy. Let’s talk about the bartenders first—phenomenal. Creative, quick, and super friendly. They knew their tequila inside and out, and their cocktail game is next-level. The jalapeño margarita was perfectly spicy, and the Coco Rita was dangerously smooth. You can tell they love what they do, and it makes a huge difference. Now the food… wow. I had the fish tacos and honestly, they were some of the best I’ve ever had—crispy on the outside, flaky inside, bursting with fresh flavor. The mahi-mahi fajitas were perfectly seasoned and sizzling hot. Portions were huge, so we shared and still had leftovers. The service was top-notch—friendly, fast, and genuine. The team made us feel right at home. Whether you’re popping in for happy hour (which is awesome) or sitting down for a full meal, Milagros delivers across the board. Great food, amazing drinks, and an unbeatable vibe.

I had the Mahi-mahi fish tacos and they were delicious! They have a nice variety of options including burgers and Mexican food. We sat outside watching and it was very comfortable and social atmosphere. Our server was very friendly, and gave us tips on where to go to see turtles. Loves this lunch!

We’re from Canada and noticed everything was priced so high. We’re on day 5 and have avoided eating out (we’re staying in a condo). We stopped here for lunch thinking we’d give it a go, not expecting much as we didn’t look it up online. We were extremely impressed! The prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes. My sister had the shrimp burrito for $18. There were 9 large pieces in her wrap. My mom and I had the loaded nachos thinking they’d be typical, scant cheese and too many chips. This wasn’t the case at all!! I can’t believe how much cheese there was! The refried beans were delicious and it came with guacamole! We didn’t have to pay extra for it. We also ordered the cut fries to share. It was a loaded plate with a side dip for only $10ish. The three of us ate for $49 and took food home. The service is spectacular with everyone hustling to get people served and tables cleaned. If you’re looking for value for your money when you’re in Paia, I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!! You won’t be disappointed!!

Terrible experience. Happy hour frozen margaritas were basically water and tasted like water. Try for yourself! You'll agree. Waited 30+ minutes for a plate of nachos that never came. Left the restaurant pissed and will not return. I would add pictures but the food never came. Sorry guys.

Flatbread Company is a popular pizza joint in Paia, Vermont, known for its wood-fired pizzas made with organic ingredients and free-range meats. The restaurant has a no-reservations policy but offers 'call-ahead seating' for the waitlist. It's a family-friendly spot with a laid-back vibe and spacious outdoor patio. The menu features delicious flatbread pizzas and salads, including the Daily Specials like carne and veggie options.
Excellent pizzas but the real star of the show is their salad ! We ordered the largest sharing size of the salad which ended up being perfect for three of us. It’s a casual restaurant and is great for families. Prices are fair considering it is a more touristy part of the island.

The pizza was fantastic. The dough was crisp but not crunchy. They offer organic and vegan options. They serve salads with produce from local farms. They make their own dressings and sauces. We had the chicken bacon salad, pepperoni pizza, cheese pizza, and veggie pizza with vegan cheese. Everyone enjoyed it. We highly recommend Flatbread.

Absolutely loved our visit to Flatbread Company! Everything from start to finish was top-notch. Franz, our server, was super on point — friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. All of the food was incredibly fresh and delicious, with that perfect local beach vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. The atmosphere was laid-back yet lively, and it really felt like a true Maui experience. Franz even went above and beyond by bringing us fresh iced tea for the road, which was such a thoughtful touch. If you’re looking for great service, fresh food, and a chill local vibe, Flatbread Company is a must. Highly recommend!

An exceptional dining experience! The pizza was hands-down one of the best I've ever had - perfectly baked, with a delightful melt-in-your-mouth texture and just the right amount of toppings. The town of Paia is great for shopping and has several restaurants. Flatbread appears to be an East Coast chain that either started or migrated here. They specialize in wood fired pizzas. Extra toppings for a build your own are $6.25/each. Party of 2 got a large 2 topping pizza with one soda that set us back $50 with tip. The pizza is fine. Great crust, light on the sauce, generous with the expensive toppings, but the center of the pizza was too soft for my liking. The vibe is very cool. We didn't try any other pizza on the island so as far as I can tell, this could be the best pizza available.

Stopped here after the hike at poli poli and waihou springs. Paia was packed and had to circle through twice to get a spot in public parking but was worth it. The pizza was delicious and my husband says lemonade tasted fresh. For dessert we split the brownie that comes with two scoops of ice cream. No complaints....off up the road to Hookipa Beach.

I’ve been to Flatbread multiple times, and it never disappoints! While the family shops, I head straight there—it’s become my go-to spot. The pizza is consistently delicious: fresh ingredients, perfect crust, and great flavor combinations. Honestly, it might be in my top 5 pizzas of all time. The service is always friendly and welcoming, while in Maui I put this as a must do...a day in Paia for shopping and pizza.

This place is absolutely fantastic. They have such a great selection of natural foods. It’s very fairly priced and lower than in town. The only thing I saw more expensive was the pineapple was cheaper at Whole Foods super vegan friendly so many baked goods. I wish I could shop here all the time.

The store has a cozy, welcoming vibe that sets it apart from larger chains, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for Maui. An alternative to whole foods in Maui that's what I would call it. Fresh food and salads to go in boxes, huge selection of organic selections like jams and chocolates. We get there at 7:00am when they open and get our lunch for the day. I recommend getting a reservation at Waiʻānapanapa State Park (Black Beach) for your picnic. We go to Maui almost every year and this is one of the things we do every-time!

This place is a recommendation on many "Road to Hana" guides. Worth the stop!! Such friendly staff and great selection for breakfast / lunch / dessert! Food is made to order hence it can be tailored as you wish. My daughter orders acai bowls every place we travel and she said "that was the freshest acai i've ever tasted"; even without all the fruits, she loved it! I got the salmon/CC on an everything bagel and it was great! Again, the staff was so friendly and happy to answer any Road-to-Hana questions!

A gem of Paia for both locals and tourists alike. Excellent food, Gelato, espresso. Staff has great Aloha spirit and they always keep it interesting with their gift shop. My favorite is a Salted Caramel Gelato Frappachino 🫶

Picked up 2 picnic lunches (sandwich, chips, cookie) and a couple of drinks on our way to have lunch al fresco. Very good sandwiches. Definitely visit again since we didn't get to try the great-looking gelato flavors!

The sandwiches and the service at Hana Picnic Lunch Company were both incredible. We came here straight from the airport before starting our Road to Hana journey. Gina (who happened to be from WI just like us) was absolutely delightful @ our sandwiches, chips & cookies were made and packed very efficiently. They also have delicious gelato. So stop here before the Road to Hana for sandwiches to take with you and after for a gelato treat!

I didn’t get the chance to try their gelato, but we stopped here twice for lunch on the go, and everyone who works here is so friendly! Vegan options too! Give them a visit :)

My husband and I ordered the Lava Flow smoothie It was very flavourful with just the right amount of natural sugar. The staff was friendly and offered suggestions on places to see on Paia. The establishment was clean and well kept with two benches to enjoy your dessert. They also sell souvenirs.

Amazing service sandwiches and location in Pa’ia! We were on foot so parking was not an issue! Gelato freshly delivered and made each morning! Everything you would need for a beach trip they also had! Check ‘em out!

Belle Surf Cafe & Lounge is a charming and intimate cafe located in Kihei, owned by Marion Girardin. The cafe offers organic, fair-trade coffee and a variety of unique coffee concoctions. The bohemian atmosphere is enhanced with hanging plants, surfing shots, old games, and cozy seating.
A hidden little gem you must find on the other side of the bikini store! The cashier was so nice and friendly! Very welcoming! The savory crepes are so fresh and fulfilling without the weight of filling full. They come with a great mix green salad with balsamic on it. I got the Paia, oh my so tasty. I also got a beef empanada and it came with an intriguing sauce that was soooo yummy. I'm not going to tell you what it is so you can come taste it yourself!

We were visiting the historic town Paia and spontaneously stopped by for a delicious cup of flat white and an amazingly yummy nutella crêpe. This lovely decorated restaurant is like an oasis. Certainly a must-stop location when visiting Paia and/or driving on the scenic Road to Hana.

Fantastic spot to catch up with friends, do some work or just to get away from the tourist crowds. Coffee and espresso selections are tasty and strong. I love the dessert crepes and their espresso martini for a late afternoon or early evening break. The decor makes you feel relaxed.

Went here for Breakfast and Dinner. Great iced caramel macchiato and acai bowls. Sushi night was awesome. Second to best sushi I've ever had! 👌🏻Cocktails here are most preferable to others in Paia.

This was a stop we made on our way back from Hana to the airport and boy are we glad we did! This a cute place tucked away in Paia. Great coffee options, the food menu was larger than we anticipated and it was great selection! The Açai bowls are delicious and the sweet crepes lived up to the name! Overall great service, food, and atmosphere; highly recommend stopping here on your way to Hana or before you get to the airport!

Came for breakfast before road to Hana. I got steak sandwich which was SO GOOD and gave me the energy i needed for the day. My wife got the breakfast platter of eggs and sausage etc. She liked it. The lattes were also amazing and the 2 girls working there were very nice. The place has good vibes highly recommend to come here.

Great ambiance and bites ! Their warmed banana bread with butter is heavenly. I’m also obsessed with their pink la marzocco. This is the type of place I totally would hang out at for a couple hours working. It’s a little obscured since it is behind the swim shop.

Ice cream shop
Artisan Ice Cream by Cafe de Amis is a must-visit spot on the Hana trip, offering delicious small-batch ice cream made with organic ingredients. The ice creamery creates its own toppings and sauces in-house, ensuring a unique and flavorful experience. While the selection may not be extensive, the quality of flavors like sea salted peanut butter chocolate chip, honey lavender (if available), Earl Grey, and salted malt vanilla fudge is outstanding.
As a vegan traveler and a husband requiring gluten-free options, it’s often a struggle to find rich, creamy vegan ice cream options that aren’t just sorbets. Artisan Ice Cream in Pa’ia was a game-changer for us ! I was thrilled with their vegan Double Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs — it was indulgent, with a deep chocolate flavour and the perfect crunch from the nibs. My husband enjoyed the Coconut Coffee flavor, which had the ideal balance of coconut’s creaminess with a coffee kick. The young lady who served us was so welcoming and helpful, making our experience even better. I’ve heard that other ice cream spots may have better tasting traditional ice cream, as for vegan options, Artisan matched our expectations. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious vegan treat!

The best ice cream I’ve had on the island and maybe ever. My wife would agree as well! Small batch, made in-house and very unique flavors that will appeal to everyone. Mia was so sweet to us and our daughter. Her service made me feel like she truly cared about our experience and for that, we will be back before we leave the island!

We stopped by on Halloween when they were closing early, and they still were able to get us some ice cream! It was really really nice because I am dairy-free and gluten-free and I read the reviews about how good it was and let me tell you it was amazing!! Thanx for helping us out!!

Without a doubt, the best ice cream on Maui and not to mention the loveliest and sweetest staff (special shoutout to Mia and Nevaeh)! Do yourself a favor and run, not walk, to get a scoop, or two, as fast as you you can.

I am 38 years old and have ice cream from all over the US and Europe. This is the best ice cream I have ever eaten. I had the apple crumble and the pumpkin, both homemade, with the homemade waffle cone. Just never had a better ice cream in my life. Worth every penny.

I feel compelled to write a review because I got the most insanely incredible cookies from this place and just went to find the name so I can save it/recommend to others so I searched cookies in paia and it didn’t show up. Don’t sleep on these cookies! The ice cream was great too (loved the pb) but the COOKIES for real.

My typical order over 4 1/2 weeks of blissful Maui living... Sea Salted Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip ice cream, and the puffiest peanut butter chocolate chip cookie in the case... sweet and salty perfection... heavenly!! Delicious small batch ice cream in lovely flavors, the cutest little storefront that makes you feel like you've found a secret door, and the friendliest crew welcoming us in each time. We LOVED introducing friends and family to this gem! Wish you were located in Minnesota, but probably good that you're not. 🤣 Thank you for making us feel like locals! ❤️
Nelina E — Google review
One of the locals recommended us this ice cream place, so my friend and I decided to check it out. They have dairy and vegan ice cream options, and you can try different flavors before deciding. The only negative that I can think of is that they have limited flavors compared to some other ice cream shops on the block. I got 2 scoops - one scoop of tahitian vanilla and 1 scoop of peppermint chip. My friend tried their vegan coconut macadamia ice cream option. Each scoop of ice cream was pretty big. You can pick between different cup sizes and cones. The texture of the ice cream was really smooth. It was creamy and sweet. The mint flavor in peppermint chip wasn't overpowering, which I was happy with. There isn't any seating area inside the ice cream shop. It's only meant for carry out. The staff was nice and the service was fast. There weren't many people in line when we went, but they had a constant stream of customers. I highly recommend checking out this ice cream shop.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Lower Pāʻia Park. Not quite as popular as Ho'okipa Beach Park, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Baldwin Beach Park, located near Historic Paia Town on Maui's North Shore, is a picturesque and family-friendly beach destination. The long stretch of golden sand and palm trees offers a peaceful retreat away from the crowded beaches of Maui. While swimming conditions can be windy, there is a protected cove on the east end and a saltwater lagoon on the west end, making it suitable for families with kids.
Fantastic Sandy Beach with rolling crashing waves.. Great for your boogie board.. or for a nice long walk in the surf. I was just there on a Friday afternoon and there was lots of people playing volleyball. There was a large group of about 35 people playing the drums.. it was quite enthralling to watch. Eventually, a large throng of people started to show up dancing up a storm.. I left when the sun was going down.. I guess that's when most people were showing up.. it could have been quite a party.. The parking area was over full and there were 50 plus cars that were on the highway.. So if you like to party on Friday nights on the beach.. this might be the place. It seems quite calm the rest of the time.

Beautiful beach and they’re turtles here. I had to zoom in on the pictures so I wouldn’t disturb them. There’s plenty swimming nearby also. They have sun tanning lotion by the restroom too.

Nice beach with easy free parking. Some great trees to seek shade and lovely views of the mountains to the left while you swim!

Gorgeous location. The far right end of the beach is sheltered by reefs enough for the kids to play in the water.

PROS: - Restrooms & showers - Lots of parking - You still get nice sunset views & colors over the West Maui Mountains CONS: - Typically windy north shore weather - Water is choppy and full of currents - Not great for swimming - Erosion has swallowed up the beach and pavilion

Amazing beach to sit and swim at. Looking to boogie board? This is a great spot to start. Great waves, not the best snorkeling. Life guards on duty, and the beach is long with plenty of room to spread out. Defiantly a must stop at during your stay on Maui.

Lower Pāʻia Park is a picturesque green space that offers beach access just a short walk from downtown Pāʻia. Beautiful beach. Not very busy. You want to go around the youth center to get to the beach. There are bathrooms there. Lots of walkers on the beach. There are also allot of homeless. Especially in the trees.

This beach was tops for us while visiting all of the Hawaiian islands. It has a private beach feel to it and is just a quick 6 minute walk from downtown Paia. The views are remarkable, and we even saw a couple of sea turtles swimming close by! There was not a lot of people at this beach, but the atmosphere was very welcoming. Recommend taking the family using Uber as it is only a $20 one way ride from the Maui mall. Take lots of pics as everything will be postcard quality!!

Vana Paia is a charming indoor-outdoor restaurant that offers a fusion of Japanese and Hawaiian cuisine. Nestled under the sprawling branches of a Hau tree, this airy eatery provides a refined dining experience with its focus on fresh seafood and local produce. The menu features an array of Japanese-inspired dishes with Hawaiian flavors, including sushi made with freshly caught fish. The restaurant's hip ambiance and carefully crafted cocktails add to the overall appeal, making it one of Paias newest dining hotspots.
Absolutely best experience I’ve had in a while. The sushi chef took such good care of us the fish was outrageously fresh. O’toro melted. Local and the vibe really gave an experience. The musician tonight is blowing me away with his beautiful voice as he started with a beautiful Hawaiian song.

Food is decent but my roll tasted premade and like it was in a cooler which is a no no lol, they brought out my entree before my drinks and appetizers even came out like what? The service was okay expected more for Valentine’s Day but I’m still in Maui so there’s that just stick to the mom and pop stores in the vicinity much better service and fresh food. Great if you just want some drinks just no on the food.

The evening ambiance was very enjoyable and soothing. The food was great, specially the O'toro, and I overall had a great experience. It was a tad pricey for the portions delivered, but the food itself was very high quality and savory. Would recommend.

I love the vibe and the music. But I have two complaints: 1. first sit they have was about 7 fit from the restroom and direct view Tom inside the bathroom from the dining table. I asked to move by the fire out side and there is a pathway of people that goes from the parking lot to and apartment behind the restaurant… there a cat that hanging out as well, it doesn’t bother me cause I love cats but some people has allergic reaction to cats. 2. I ordered the guava mojito drink. It was great but the second glass I ordered there was a strong taste of an ashtray, almost if someone through a cigarette bud to the drink. The restaurant is a little pricey .

This place is special. It is so rare to eat somewhere and enjoy every dish. This restaurant did that for me. The flavors were very fresh and unique. A wonderful mix of citrus’s, salts, sweets and hints of spice filled my pallet as i greedily devoured each course. Not once did I feel that a dish could have been done better or in a different way. Even my espresso was good. Top all that off with incredibly friendly service and a price point that’s hard to beat.

I had the crab cake Benedict and every bite was amazing! If I ever went to Maui again, this would be the one place I must go! Do not miss out on this place. Make a reservation in advance in case it's busy. It wasn't too busy the day we went for breakfast. The town of Paia is an awesome little place. Must go.

There was a very limited menu (Covid I guess), just a few hand rolls, cocktails or beer, basically a happy hour menu… The sushi rolls we had were fine and tasty, I think we ordered two pieces of Kampachi for $10, but I felt the place was overpriced and a little weird to find in a chill little town on the coast of Maui. The cocktails were good, overall kinda disappointing.

Takeout Restaurant
Organic restaurant
Choice Health Bar Paia is an acclaimed health food restaurant and juice bar situated in the heart of Paia town. The establishment offers a variety of options for those seeking a healthy lifestyle, including fresh juices, smoothies, acai bowls, kale salads, and snacks.
Clean, healthy food tucked into this little surf town like it belongs—sincere, sun-drenched, maybe a bit smug, but it earns it. You walk in and you're greeted by the kind of people who actually enjoy kale. Everything here is raw, organic, alive—but in that good way, not the expensive LA nonsense way. It’s not cheap—don’t fool yourself—but compared to what the resorts charge for a sad banana and watery green juice, it’s a steal. Load up: smoothies, bowls, juices, grab everything that catches your eye, then toss it all in the mini fridge back at your hotel. Suddenly you’ve got breakfast and lunch sorted for days, and your gut will thank you. If you’re trying to do Maui on a ramen-noodle budget, this place might hurt. But if you want real food that actually makes you feel good—and you’re okay spending a little more than the grocery store—this is where you go.
Winston C — Google review
I was so delighted when I spotted a café sign promoting a healthy lifestyle — of course I had to step inside. I ordered my favorite dish: açaí with liliko‘i (passion fruit). First of all, the portion of açaí was literally tiny. And the liliko‘i? Not a single piece in sight. As a vegetarian with a very fine-tuned sense of taste, I noticed right away. The staff tried to explain that the fruit was “hidden” somewhere in the branded açaí mix 🙂 — but let’s be honest, such excuses don’t work on seasoned California tourists who’ve been to Hawaii more than once. The granola portion, on the other hand, was enormous — probably a horse would’ve been thrilled about it. In short, if you go to Island Vintage Coffee at Whalers Village and try their açaí liliko’i moana bowl, you’ll understand exactly what I mean. 🌺

Cafe Mambo is a lively and colorful restaurant located on the main strip of Baldwin Avenue in Paia. This long-standing establishment offers a diverse menu featuring locally sourced burgers, fajitas, salads, and breakfast options that cater to both vegetarian and vegan preferences. Some popular dishes include the crispy duck burger, seared ahi tacos, and the passion fruit margarita. The restaurant also provides the option for half fries and half salad as a side dish.
Cafe Mambo makes the best toast special for someone who wants a protein-rich brunch alternative to eggs or yogurt. In fact, each dish at our table was a hit. We came across this restaurant after passing a few others and our patience was rewarded. The menu delivers, the service is personable, and the space is beautiful. We enjoyed it so much that we came back for breakfast before our flight.

Coffee and food were good, service could be better. Our server came to greet us and just said “so guys what’s the plan”, we were a bit confused. The two girls working there were nice, the guy looked a bit out of it, maybe he had a bad day but looked like he did not want to be there. Lemon berry pancakes were good, there is some anise or other spice to it but we have no idea what, he never explained.
Mila S — Google review
We ended up here because the restaurant we wanted to eat at was closed for the day due to a water main break. ATMOSPHERE: It's a nonchalant open air older restaurant. The only view is of Baldwin Avenue and people walking by. MENU: Salads, burgers, American entrees, and fajitas. BEVERAGE: Strawberry Daiquiri Very refreshing, nice thickness and not overly sweet. FOOD: Nachos We added kalua pork to the mix. The chips were mainstream but good, and came topped with black beans, jalapeños, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and cheese. The kalua pork had a BBQ flavor and was too sweet, which is a total turn off to me. The black beans could've been eliminated as they had a weird, ocean/salty taste that reminded me of opihi (limpets) lol. Pass on this. SERVICE: Our female server was very friendly and professional. OVERALL: Good prices. Some of the other dishes on the menu sound tasty, but I won't be back to try them as nothing really stands out.

You can tell the establishment really cares about sourcing good ingredients. Even the cocktails were on point, not too sweet and perfectly strong. Our server was polite and attentive. All in all a great experience, we’ll be back.

Breakfast burrito is the best one I’ve ever had. Recommend adding sausage. We came here twice on our trip to Maui even when we weren’t staying in Paia to get this burrito. The pancakes and strawberry matcha are also delicious.

We had an amazing dinner at Café Mambo! We started with the Burrata, which came with gluten-free bread (they were super accommodating) and a delicious mix of preserved lemons and peppers — so unique and flavorful. For dinner, we ordered the Half Roasted Chicken, Warm Winter Salad, Broccolini, and Potatoes, and had everything served together as one big spread. The chicken was tender with a tasty harissa seasoning, the salad was perfectly balanced with squash, beets, and feta, and both sides were incredible — the broccolini had a nice chili crisp kick, and the potatoes were melt-in-your-mouth soft with a light herb aioli. They also have great mocktails, which is so nice for anyone who doesn’t drink — all super refreshing and thoughtfully made. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is classy, modern, and welcoming. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to!

Aumakua Kava Lounge is a hidden gem in Paia, Maui that offers a unique and inviting atmosphere. The tiki-inspired bar is known for its positive and knowledgeable staff, including bartender Ash who creates an amazing vibe. Visitors can enjoy high-quality kava served in traditional ceremony style or opt for delicious mocktails made with healthy ingredients. The lounge also features a healing space for yoga and sound baths, making it a perfect place to unwind and relax.
Had a lovely visit and the Kava was exactly what I needed. Traveling solo with two energetic little ones in tow had me wiped out but the kava and greater customer service gave me the boost I needed. And the brownie was out of this world - my goodness!

I’ve been visiting Aumakua Kava Lounge since 2020 and have truly enjoyed watching it grow into what it is today. It’s an authentic Pāʻia gem offering the best kava on Maui, in my opinion. They feature a variety of kava selections, including a locally grown Hawaiʻi option, along with retail items and full kava kits for those who want to bring the experience home. What really sets Aumakua apart is their take on traditional tiki-style drinks — all crafted with kava instead of alcohol. Each one is beautifully made, all natural, and completely alcohol-free, offering a fun and mindful twist on the classic island cocktail experience. Beyond the drinks, Aumakua shines in its dedication to education, cultural knowledge, and respect for the roots of kava. The team is incredibly welcoming, making both newcomers and seasoned kava lovers feel right at home. The space itself is community-focused, family-friendly, and filled with good vibes — even kids are welcome to join in the relaxed atmosphere. If you haven’t been yet, go. It’s an absolute must when you’re in Pāʻia.

Came here to try kava for the first time. The bartender, Kai was super friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I greatly enjoyed the drinks and vibes!

Kai was very inviting and made me feel comfortable here. Ive only had kava a couple times but he explained it all better to me than any other bartender has. They also serve kratom here which is my go to so I was happy to be served kava and a yummy cocktail mixed with the kratom. Thank you Kai!

Yummy drinks and great vibes super friendly and felt right at home love this place and will always be my favorite kava bar on the island

I love this place! No need to compare to other bars like Haleakava; it’s apples and oranges. Haleakava more local and roots vibe, and Aumakua more of a classy and fancy drinks vibe. Love them both!

We did a search for a "bar" and this place popped up. I had never tried kava before this and this was a total surprise. Very relaxing vibe and the waitress was extra helpful and knowledgeable. I asked for something to pick me up, and was rewarded with a coffee cocktail. Our group sat and chatted for some time, never feeling rushed. It was a great experience. Will try again.

Best margarita on the island! Everything was top notch and amazingly good. Personally.... I love a great margarita, and it's surprisingly difficult to find a good one on Maui.. but wow... The margarita the bartender made was AMAZING. Food was great also and full of great flavor. Definitely recommended!

Stopped in for some food and filled our stomachs and hearts. Absolutely the best Peruvian food we’ve had. Shared several dishes, had plenty of drinks but Carly was amazing. Service with an amazing smile and vibrant energy. So glad the parking lot in town was full and we had to turn up this road. Thank you, the Hawaiian gods were looking out for us!

Went here for drinks and dessert. We got the Peruvian Fizz and the Lilikoi mojito. And then the churros. The drinks were fantastic. We'll get them again. And the churros were the best all time, for me. Freshly fried cinnamon goodness - served with a scoop of coconut ice cream and a scoop of lilikoi ice cream. And our servers were great as well! WE LOVED LIMA COCINA + CANTINA and we will for sure come back!

**As a Peruvian, I was really looking forward to trying the ceviche here, especially after having one of the best ceviches in Oahu recently. Unfortunately, this place didn't quite match that level.** The **ceviche** was a big letdown. The lime flavor was so bitter and overpowering that it masked any potential seasoning — honestly, it didn’t even taste like it had any. The fish quality itself was actually good, but the flavors just didn’t come together well at all. On top of that, the portioning was disappointing — the amount of **corn** was a sliver, and they gave me just **one slice of sweet potato**, which felt unbalanced. Trying to salvage the experience, I ordered the **Papa a la Huancaína**, thinking I could make my own Leche de Tigre with it. But $20 for that? It was the **thickest, chunkiest** version of the dish I’ve ever had — not smooth or well-prepared. The **only saving grace** was the Lomo Saltado burrito . It was flavorful and actually pretty good. If I had to rate the ceviche alone, I’d give it maybe a **2 out of 5**, and that’s purely for the quality of the fish. **Overall, I’d only recommend coming here for the Lomo Saltado burrito — definitely not for the ceviche.** Would you like a shorter version or something tailored for Yelp or Google reviews?

Good food. The ceviche was tasty, though the serving size for the ceviche could have been a bit bigger. The other plates were a decent size

If you're looking for an incredible Peruvian dining experience, you have to check out [Restaurant Name]. I started with a lilikoi mojito that was pure perfection—not too sweet and wonderfully refreshing. The star of the show, though, was the ceviche. The fish was incredibly fresh and the citrus marinade had the perfect kick. What really made it stand out was the addition of crispy calamari on top, which added a wonderful texture and savory flavor to every bite. Highly recommend!

We love Peruvian food and wow, this place did not disappoint. The tiradito trio with calamari added was amazing. I would come back just to eat that again. The arroz con pollo did not require a knife. Beautifully cooked. The sudado pescado didn’t disappoint either.

Came here for drinks and dessert and loved it! We tried the Peruvian Fizz and Lilikoi Mojito — both were fantastic. The churros were incredible, fresh and cinnamon-y, served with coconut and lilikoi ice cream. The servers were great too. We absolutely loved Lima Cocina + Cantina and will definitely return!
