When you think of Freeport, Maine, L.L.Bean is likely the first name that pops into your mind. This iconic retailer specializes in outdoor gear, apparel, and footwear for all your sporting adventures, including hunting and fishing equipment. Open 24/7 throughout the year, it’s a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike. The flagship store features a giant 16-foot boot that serves as a perfect photo op!
LL Bean. Great area. Employees are super friendly. Plenty of parking. Depending on the day they have fun activity for the kids and adults. They still have a fair return policy. In the winter they have hot chocolate on hand. They are currently updating one of the stores to make it look better, but should have zero effect on your shopping experience. Plenty of nice bathrooms too.
Abner B — Google review
This was my first time visiting the area & I was told I HAD to go to L.L. Bean. I liked the vibe of this place. While it's a large selection spread among many buildings, it had a classy, classic feel to it. Not the same as if you'd go to another box store for the outdoors/camping/hunting/fishing. The staff was friendly an attentive, but not overly pressing. Everything was clean and had a tidy and respectful vibe to it. A local friend shared with us that she grew up in town right where their amphitheater is now. It was exactly where her house stood as a child and she was able to show us how things were laid out decades ago. It was neat to see. It took about an hour to go through all of the stores, but that was without looking at each section of every store. If you're a big shopper, you might want to plan an afternoon to go. The plus side is the restrooms are very clean.
Alyssa S — Google review
It was fun to visit and look around - the greeters/ambassadors were friendly and everywhere, and the couple photo-ops with boots were nice - but I wish there was more to do/see, like a museum or exhibit of old products (or did I miss it?). It was just a lot of people shopping at full price. I should’ve read up more what to expect and should’ve started at the L.L. Bean Outlet across the street.
Cedric C — Google review
Large shopping area with currently 3 large structures that make up the LL Bean Flagship stores with a smaller outlet store across the street. The tent is currently being used while the main store is under construction. There is a large selection of each item in all sizes available with so many colors to choose from. Various staff everywhere to assist with any question you might have. Multiple changing rooms to try on the items you select. Free parking for the entire shopping area is a 5 minute walk from LL Bean and right across the street.
Jamie W — Google review
We were recommended to visit here, I knew that it would be large, but we were very surprised when we arrived, and there were multiple buildings. We enjoyed walking around to the different buildings, and the staff were very friendly. A fun place to visit if you’re in the area. you can purchase something and then have it shipped to you as well.
Jeff — Google review
Currently remodeling so there's not much available in the main store. The temp store closes at 10p (2200) so if you're wanting the full LL Bean experience get there before they close. The prices are high for pretty much everything but it is LL Bean so that's to be expected. Friendly staff who are pretty down to earth. They seem to have rediscovered their roots, which is good to see.
Thhaze — Google review
Wow, come prepared to be amazed. Casual clothes, every kind of outdoors activity apparel, plus home linens. Dog friendly (yes, they have a section just for your fur-babies). Items are adjusted due to the construction, but other shoppers are not deterred. Parking is all around the perimeter of the campus, just be patient. I went in the fall, and they were handing out apple cider.
Da C — Google review
The L.L.Bean flagship store is a great place to visit , huge selection of outdoor gear and apparel, and the space itself feels like part museum, part adventure center. Prices are mostly full retail, but the quality and service are top-notch. Parking is easy, and it’s surrounded by other great shops in downtown Freeport. Worth checking out at least once!

Bridges
The Androscoggin Swinging Bridge, constructed in 1892, connects Brunswick and Topsham over the Androscoggin River. It was initially built to provide easy access for Brunswick mill workers living in Topsham. Despite being lost in a flood in 1936, it was rebuilt and is now maintained by a dedicated voluntary organization. The bridge offers a bouncy but fun crossing experience and provides beautiful views of the river and surrounding area.
Came here one morning when it was raining just to see how the water looked because it can be pretty rough sometimes during a storm so it's cool to check out.. and its very pretty no matter what. Always a great sight to see as a local and a peaceful place to go real quick to get away for even just 5 minutes to breathe.
Denay R — Google review
Nice bridge and there is also a 1.25 loop walk and they have brochures at the sign with the trail on it. There is a path where you can walk down to the rocks near the water as well.
Trisha M — Google review
The Androscoggin Swinging Bridge is a charming historic pedestrian bridge connecting Brunswick and Topsham, built in 1892. It’s a short, pleasant walk only about 2 minutes across and offers beautiful views of the river and surrounding nature. The bridge has a gentle sway, which adds a bit of fun to the experience without being intimidating. Free parking is available nearby, though it can be limited, so arriving early is best. This spot is perfect for a quick outing to enjoy fresh air, some history, and peaceful river views in a unique setting. It’s a hidden gem worth visiting.
Vijay T — Google review
I love the Swinging Bridge. There's not a lot of available parking of you're just pulling off to check it out as you're passing by, but it's worth the stop. The Topsham side has a little trail sneaking down into a small sand beach and boulders. It's a nice place to rest, have a snack, or read a book. No swimming allowed.
Sara M — Google review
A short walk down a lot of history. This engineering marvel was first realized in 1892 as a walkway for French Canadian workers to cross over to the Cabot Mill. The original wooden structure has been replaced in the 1930’s with the ironworks structure. Easy walk and a gentle swing to it.
Edward G — Google review
if you are in the area, a nice 10 minute stop. Was there on a Tuesday night and the small parking lot (like 3 spaces and more across the street) weren't taken. If your into bridges, worth the stop.
B K — Google review
Very cool to check out. My son and I walked across it and it DEFINITELY swings while walking on it. Beautiful views as well.

I loved this. Cool place to take a quick walk, or even sit by the water and have lunch.

The Rumpus Room is an indoor playground perfect for kids to burn off some energy. It offers a variety of activities including exploring a pirate ship, riding a small rollercoaster, and playing on a CedarWorks playground. Guests can bring their own food and drinks, making it convenient for parents. The owner keeps the place clean despite the high number of kids during operating hours.
Wonderful place for kids to get some energy out - it’s relaxed, like visiting a playroom at friends house, with many toys, a slide and a few climbing structures. There is a picnic table and a couch for parents to sit and chat (coffee available for a few bucks) while kids play. The owner is very welcoming and friendly. Our kids had a wonderful time and didn’t want to leave after 2 hrs of playing.
Marko B — Google review
We stopped in before our 4hr car ride home with our 2yr old and it was just what we needed! Plenty of toys and options for play! Clean and warm and welcoming! The owner has thoroughly designed the play space and thought of everything and created a lovely community here! We’ll be back!
Lily C — Google review
Great space for a 3rd birthday party! Our guests from 5 months old- 13 yrs old had a blast. The owner treated us like family and was so kind. Highly recommended to anyone in the area looking for a fun time for their little ones!
Laura F — Google review
Lots of fun to be had here, mostly for ages 1-6. Plenty of cubbies for shoes and belongings, and a good layout. More fine motor than gross motor (in comparison to the play place in Farmingdale for example). Couldn't take my kiddo away from the kitchen/shopping area, so that's all you'll see here 😂 Update Nov 2022: still reliably open, clean, and comfy. Lots of places for adults to sit that aren't on the floor.. Update Jan 2024: lots of gross motor stuff has been added, and continues to a great, reliable place for fun. They also sell snacks, drinks, and coffee now.
Amber T — Google review
We love the rumpus room. The owner is very relaxed and really does a stunning job of keeping the place clean considering the number of kids that are there during operating hours. Lots of variety for the kids to keep occupied. Gross motor play, kitchen area, reading area, fine motor play, and the list goes on. You can also do kids parties here and the lower kid count during the parties has a lovely vibe all its own. Definitely recommend
Stephen B — Google review
Recently did a photoshoot for a birthday party here and it was a blast! All of the kids were so busy running around and having the time of their lives that they weren't too thrilled when it was time for photos in front of the backdrop, but we got plenty of them running around and being kids! Definitely recommended for kids upto atleast 8-10. The pirate ship with the slide was a huge hit with everyone, even the adults! Everything was super clean and easy to set up. They have drinks and snacks for sale at the desk as well. Wish there was a bit more seating but overall it was great! Visit my photography page on Facebook @TouchofMainePhotography

Loved it. Friendly staff and great variety of art work. And a wonderful free opportunity to enjoy this beautiful facility.

I LOVED this museum!! I enjoyed it tremedously! It was free. The lady who works there was super nice and helpful. The museum has an incredibly interesting collection! Very high quality! I absolutely loved the Assyrian/Babilonian bas-reliefs. They also colored them with pointed lights - something I've never seen before. It was breathtaking. I loved the collection of unique and girgeous handmade baskets. It was very interesting to learn about the women who made them. Very unique. And of course, the European art! Beautiful collection!! I want to come back and enjoy it again! Also, I have to say that their gift shop had things that I haven't seen anywhere before. Very unique things - crafts, games, books, accessoiries, etc. Very different. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO VISIT this museum!

Viewed fantastic photography and painting exhibitions on first floor. The photos from Gordon Parks and John McKeen were enlightening. I couldn't decide which was my favorite Ann Craven moon. Wonderful museum with friendly and helpful staff. Will head for floors 2 and 3 soon.

Free art museum with several interesting exhibits during our visit. I particularly enjoyed the portraits of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Parking close to the museum seemed limited.

This was a really powerful college art museum. I liked the signage, whoever is in charge didn't sugar coat anything. Very spacious with beautiful architecture. I will be back!
Catherine K — Google review
A fantastic art museum that is open and free to the public with donations accepted. The collection was built in part by the founder of Bowdoin College. It’s a nice combination of early American and European, some modern, and with a smattering of artifacts and works from ancient Egyptian times to Oceana. Not an overwhelming place, manageable for an afternoon stroll, and there’s a great room to practice your echo echo or overtone singing in:).

Always a pleasure to visit this elegant classic building. Free admission; currently has a temporary photography exhibit, and there are two interesting Assyrian bas-reliefs colored via a projector.

Lovely theater and not too large so there really aren't bad seats. Also, in the Orchestra section is stadium seating so you can see very well. They also have a shuttle that takes you right to the theater.

German restaurant
Richard's Restaurant is a charming eatery that offers a mix of hearty German classics and American favorites. Despite its unassuming name, this restaurant specializes in traditional German cuisine, providing a warm and old-world atmosphere. The menu features familiar German dishes as well as some lesser-known options, allowing diners to explore the flavors of Germany. Visitors can enjoy authentic German sandwiches and classic entrees like Holsteinschnitzel, showcasing the establishment's commitment to genuine culinary experiences.
WOW! I had their Thursday night special, and the beef was tenderized and wrapped perfectly around the pickle and bacon. It did not require a steak knife it was so tender. The spaetzle was authentic (not from a box), and the brown gravy superb! I also really enjoyed the red cabbage which I think may have been simmered in bacon fat because it was super yummy. The atmosphere felt German, and the music was very authentic. The staff seemed to really care about my experience. I only wish I didn't live over 1,000 miles away because I would come here all the time. PS: The homemade chocolate cake layered with raspberry preserves and a chocolate mascarpone was amazing to finish out my meal. Highly recommend Richard's!

The atmosphere when we walked in was like walking into a German pub/restaurant. Our waitress was smart and very funny. The food was authentic and tasty. They have a ton of German beer. Prices were reasonable. Go and enjoy this restaurant!
Reggie P — Google review
We had reservations for mom’s 91st birthday. She is German and requested Richard’s for her special birthday dinner. The service was horrible to start. Our drink order taken, and 20 min later no drinks, no server. She helped parties that came in after us and never said “ be with you shortly”. In fact she always looked away. We were very frustrated. We saw the drinks sitting poured at the bar. My husband asked the hostess/bartender if she could serve them. She gladly brought them over. Finally our server arrived too. I asked if she was going to take our order. She had a real attitude and told the hostess to find us a different server. The hostess then started with the attitude as well. She said they were short on help and I’d have to be living under a rock not to know this. She was very rude. Another server came to take care of us. She was great. Took our order, delivered food timely, checked on us, wished mom a happy birthday. The service rating is a two only because the second server took great care of us where the others rated zeros.

We opted for something different after a vacation diet focused on seafood. Richard's was unique. The food was interesting and tasty. We got the sampler. The beer was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and informative. A fully successful choice.

Richard’s Restaurant has been a fixture in downtown Brunswick for decades, offering a taste of authentic German cuisine in the heart of Maine Street. Its half-timbered exterior and welcoming sign make it one of the most recognizable spots in town. Inside, the menu features hearty classics like schnitzel, bratwurst, and sauerbraten, alongside steins of imported beer. The cozy interior, with dark wood and European décor, adds to the experience, making it feel like a slice of Germany tucked into coastal New England. More than just a restaurant, Richard’s has become a gathering place for locals, Bowdoin College visitors, and travelers alike. Its longevity speaks to the quality of the food and the warmth of the atmosphere, securing its place as a Brunswick tradition. #brunswickmaine #richardsrestaurant #germancuisine #mainestreet

Richard's Restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a charming German theme that is thoughtfully reflected in both the decor and dinnerware. The staff enhances the experience with their friendliness and attentiveness, creating a comfortable dining environment. The meal began with a savory strudel, accompanied by a selection of delectable appetizers that set a positive tone for the evening. The strudel was a delightful start, rich in flavor and perfectly baked. For the main course, I chose the German sample, a generously filled plate that provided a satisfying variety of dishes. The waitress was kind enough to introduce each component of the dish, adding a personalized touch to the service. While the plate was overall enjoyable, a few of the items were somewhat lacking in seasoning, resulting in a few underwhelming bites. To conclude, the sweet strudel paired with coffee made for a delightful dessert, ending the meal on a high note with its well-balanced sweetness and comforting flavors. I just had the most wonderful meal. We went for my birthday tonight. I took a DNA test and learned I am mostly German. I had been wanting to try this restaurant forever. It was AMAZING! The staff, the food, the atmosphere. We had a wonderful time and I was so happy we went there for my birthday. We made a pact to go back once a month from now on. Best place to eat in Brunswick. Highly recommend. I had the Jagerschnitzel with mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts with carrots. 10 out of 10!

We got there 15 minutes before it's closing time. The waitress was very nice. Quickly we ordered the food. The Pho was pretty good, maybe a 4 out of 5. But the fried chicken and the curry chicken were below the average. Fried chicken was not crispy and the flavor was bland. Curry chicken was not much flavor either, and the chicken was hard to chew.

Flavorful, vegetarian options, Gluten free options and just amazing food. The portions were big and the staff was friendly and so darn helpful. The lobster spring rolls were so wonderful to start the meal. My brother-in-law is Vietnamese and he said it was one of the best places he has been to outside of Southern California. Cute atmosphere and the owner Even came to our table to see if we were being well taken care of. Also the location can’t be beat.

Great restaurant. Service was quick. I ordered the 16oz pho with meatball and it was good. More broth would improve it but overall recommend it. Price is good. It was a busy night in Brunswick and they did a great job.

Disappointing food and very slow service. We had a reservation - very small restaurant. Ordered 2 apps - they came out separately after about a half hour & there was a hair in the tofu. Ordered 3 entrees which took almost a full hour so we had to rush eating because we had tickets to a play. Curry was horrid and watery - no flavor at all. Pho was only slightly seasoned. Third entree was just okay. Expensive. Empty tables next to us weren't cleared the whole time we were there. Not a good experience. Cannot recommend.

This was our second visit to this restaurant, and it was every bit as good as our first. The Lemongrass has a delightful ambience, created by the pleasing decor and the friendly and helpful staff. The food was outstanding - perfectly cooked and presented. There were three of us at the table and we all ate until or plates were clean! We will undoubtedly be back, often.

Excellent quality food. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food tasted great. The pho had a little less broth than other noodle houses but the broth was far more flavorful. The noodles were wider and very good. The broth was hot enough to cook the meat without being so hot that it burned your mouth. The service was very prompt and the appetizers and entrees arrived at the table quickly. The appetizers were served with 10 minutes of sitting down. The entrees were served immediately after the appetizers were cleared. Definitely worth the visit.

OTTO is a local pizza chain known for its thin-crust, gourmet pies with customizable options. Customers rave about the house-made salads and dressings, as well as the friendly delivery service. One customer even ordered 16 pizzas for their small business and was impressed by the helpful staff, punctual delivery, and delicious food. A honeymooning couple passing through Brunswick stumbled upon OTTO and were blown away by the meatball, ricotta, basil double dough pizza and Caesar salad.
Sat at the bar of this quaint pizza shop in Brunswick. Had a delicious Moscow mule served by a very friendly bartender. Tried the pepperoni pizza wheels and they were delicious! Perfect way to end the weekend. Would definitely go back. Hope the weather is nice enough to try sitting outside next time.

I’ve ordered from here several times and it’s always been good (native New Yorker here) recently tried the thick crust (extra crispy) hot honey, cup pep, goat cheese. I subbed out the red sauce for the vodka sauce and added spinach. It’s amazing. Thank you Brian for your input on mush v. spinach and thanks Cam for entertaining my follow up complimentary phone call. Great pizza restaurant. Had aperol spritz and Jameson w/ginger ale. Caesar salad was plenty to share and the cheesy bread was yummy. It was basically a small cheese pizza with thicker crust. We also had the meatball, ricotta and basil pie. Food was delicious! Bartender was super friendly offering suggestions as we are not local and traveling thru the area. Locals were also nice to chat with. Highly recommend.

Pizza is always on point and consistent. I go with the old school sauce as im not into the dollops on my pie but thats just my personal opinion. Friendly and fast. Parking can be tricky, but it's worth a little walk if their lot is full.

Oh Otto’s! Their pizzas are just so good. Classic and their signatures, the crust is dependably crusty and chewy. And oh those chocolate chip cookies.
Brenda K — Google review
This is my pizza of choice in Topsham/Brunswick. Pizza is very good if a bit pricey. Only complaints would be that the thickness of the dough seems to be inconsistent depending on who makes it and the toppings are rather pricey at over $3 a piece.

OTTO’s has the best pizza in the Brunswick/Bath area and is always my go to spot! The pizza always tastes delicious, fresh, and I love how the crust has char on it that's a big plus for me. I love dipping it in the house made red sauce they make. If you are a ricotta lover on your pizza this has the best tasting ricotta around as well! Only thing I wish was that OTTO’s was open later than 9pm because I find there are a lot of people who love a late night pizza and the only option unfortunately is Domino's, not a quality pizza place like OTTO’s. Highly recommended and will keep coming back!

We had our wedding catered through Ottos and what a great crew of people - Brian the manger, was awesome to work with! Great communication, flexible, and a timely delivery of all the great food we ordered! We had 100+ people and ottos provided all the serving equipment and bags to keep the food warm and serve out to guests. Great place to eat locally or if you need an event catered!

Mandarin restaurant
China Rose is a popular Chinese restaurant in Maine known for its familiar and delicious Chinese dishes. The laid-back dining room offers a cozy atmosphere, and they also provide takeout options. Customers rave about the quality of the food, with particular praise for the egg rolls, chicken dishes, and flavorful sauces. The restaurant caters to various dietary preferences, offering gluten-free options as well as vegetarian dishes. Despite some mixed reviews on pricing, many patrons believe that China Rose delivers excellent value for money.
Wonderful place to eat in cozy freeport. They have take out options and their dine in area is beautiful. They recently started up buffet hours and it’s a great experience. Highly recommend.

Nice little place. Clean and friendly. Decent price ($12.99). Not much to choose from on the buffet. Missing the usual boneless ribs and bone in chicken wings. Randomly has cold potatoes wedges, and some walnut chicken that's just not for me. The Teriyaki chicken was really good, and so weren't there a little egg rolls. Very limited dessert section and no ice cream (hard or soft). Overall not a bad little place for lunch but I wouldn't go out of my way to drive there.

Best buffet in mid coast Maine! Family who run it are super friendly and polite. Food flavor is a notch above what one would expect at a buffet. Walnut shrimp, chicken egg rolls, and sauteed mushrooms are my favorite!

I had called ahead asking how much the dinner buffet was. When I get there, I see that the buffet tables are down and that they are handing out menus. I ask what’s going on and they say that there’s only buffet for lunch so I’d had to drive what would’ve been a 30 minute drive from home to a 45 minute drive from this restaurant to go to a different place if they would’ve told me that it was buffet dinner on the phone. It would’ve saved me a trip

All prices beyond lunch specials are severely overpriced. A meal that costs $11 in Portland costs $15-$18 here. I find it interesting that both of the American-Chinese restaurants in Freeport have near identical overpriced food.

Terrible food compared to the many other “Chinese” restaurants. Tasted old or re-heated, lacking any any flavor, so minimal on veggies 🥗 also (Only ate cause I paid for it ) You can fool some of the people some of the time Don’t waste your time or money on this place they have gone WAY down hill.

Love taking an evening motorcycle ride to this place. Dairy and I are not such good friends anymore, but they have so many delicious sorbetto options that I don't feel left out. My current favorite is the raspberry mango. All the employees are super friendly and helpful too.

A friend recommended this spot to us and I'm so glad we stopped. This gelato was fantastic and one of the best frozen treats we've had this year. My husband and I shared: - Marscapone Pistachio Caramel - Italian Banana Pudding - Cake Batter All three flavors were incredible. They have so many awesome flavors and they let you sample as many as you want. I will stop by here every time I'm nearby. If you like ice cream and gelato, it's a must.

The BEST Gelato on planet earth! 🌎 🍨 😋 LITERALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE GOOD! And im not exaggerating! I (& my company) tasted divinity when we went here. The seasonal, Apple Cinnamon Dairy Free Gelato changed my life. It was all you love about apple pie with vanilla ice cream, in one spoonful, that was so creamy I had to double check… dairy free !?! WOW 🤯 🤩 🤤 IT CHANGED MY LIFE! I can only pray they open one down here in NYC or Jersey! They should go nation wide! Their method and recipes are out of this world. I sampled 6 and got 3 , which they were very nice about. It felt almost encouraged. You get what you like and how you like it without it being limited like other shops. I should also note their customer service was exceptional! Warm, friendly, polite! Angelika was a treat! Someone you’d hope to meet on your travels, as we did 😌 a true asset to this business. The others we met were just as kind and helpful. Truly such a nice store! They were spacious and cozy inside with nice couches and furniture, board games, and a nice family feel. Where you can go and catch up with friends and not be rushed out! It was truly special and so happy we found it! Truly this place made my entire trip! I’m still dreaming and wondering how they made that special gelato… how it was so velvety smooth , packed with flavor… I could only describe it like when you would get good cold stone creamery, it’s like that but BETTER! (Yes there’s another level and they’ve unlocked it!) I’m telling you they can win awards and go global between their service model and product! I’m so happy my friend took me here and found them! If you’re thinking of going, this is your sign! It’ll be one of the best desserts of your life! You won’t be disappointed! They have parking out front as well! Thanks for delicious Memory Gelato Fiasco! 😋

I stopped by The Gelato Fiasco on Maine Street, and it instantly became one of my favorite dessert spots in Brunswick! The gelato was absolutely delicious, the portion sizes were generous, and the prices were very reasonable, great quality and quantity all around. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. You can tell they take pride in both their service and their product. I’d rate it a solid 10/10 and would absolutely recommend it to anyone craving something sweet. My personal favorites were the fresh cookie and cardamom gelato, both were unique, creamy, and packed with flavor. Perfect ending to a day in downtown Brunswick!

Do you love gelato or sorbetto? You must give this place a try. Absolutely amazing in every way. The staff was super friendly and attentive. It can get a bit busy but have no fear...the line goes fast. Plenty of comfortable seating inside as well as some outside. Many bold and delicious flavors to choose from. They also have takeaway too!

Probably my favorite dessert place in the US. Im not a local but we have come here two years in a row and will come again. Everyone is super nice and kind. They allow samples which is fantastic. The vibes are so great, they want people to hang. I also really appreciate the way they do tips with you grabbing a poker chip with an amount and handing it to them or else they don’t ask. The mango and peanut butter are the best things ever! Can’t wait to go back!!!

Specialty Museums
Step into the captivating world of Arctic exploration at the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum, located on the campus of Bowdoin College. Named after esteemed alumni Robert E. Peary and Donald B. MacMillan, this free museum offers a comprehensive journey into the realm of early 1900s Arctic expeditions. Housed within Hubbard Hall, it showcases artifacts and photos from these daring ventures, including a collection donated by MacMillan himself.
Great little museum with some surprisingly in-depth information on Peary et.al.'s arctic exploration, the Inuit who supported them, and Inuit clothing crafts and art work. Definitely worth a stop

Cool little college museum. Highlights the life and culture of indigenous people in the far north. Absolutely amazing that anyone would ever figure out a way to live, let alone thrive in the far north.
Destiny M — Google review
The Peary–MacMillan Arctic Museum at Bowdoin has recently transformed into one of Maine’s most striking cultural spaces. Now housed in the new Gibbons Center for Arctic Studies, the building itself reflects its mission—built with sustainable mass timber and designed with an iceberg-like silhouette. It’s the only museum in the U.S. dedicated solely to Arctic exploration and culture, free to visit and open to the public. Inside, the museum bridges past and present. Artifacts from Robert Peary and Donald MacMillan’s expeditions sit alongside Inuit art and oral histories, showing how exploration was never a solitary pursuit but one deeply connected to Indigenous knowledge. The collection includes everything from sledges and historic photographs to contemporary fashion and bold graphic prints from Inuit artists. Two major exhibits define the current moment: Printed Textiles from Kinngait Studios, which uncovers mid-century Inuit fabric design, and At Home in the North, where traditional tools are paired with modern innovations like SmartBUOY technology. Together, they tell a story that’s as much about resilience and adaptation as it is about discovery. #brunswickmaine #arcticmuseum #bowdoincollege #inuitart #mainehistory

A gem of a museum with a mix of history and art from polar exploration by Peary, Henson, and McMillan. Fascinating videos of Arctic exploration from the early 20th Century. A knowledgeable docent answered questions and shared stories. I had no idea of Bowdoin College's close connection to Arctic exploration. Note also that the ship Bowdoin was built at Hodgon's in Boothbay Harbor for polar exploration and is still in use. The Windjammer Emporium (a clothing store in Boothbay Harbor) has a related exhibit in the back of the store with additional film footage of McMillan. I was able to see both in one day.

Parks
Merrymeeting Dog Park in Brunswick is a 1.5-acre fenced park located by the Androscoggin River, offering a serene setting surrounded by trees. It features separate areas for small and large dogs, with water fountains and waste stations available. While weekends and evenings tend to be busy, the spacious grounds provide ample room for dogs to roam freely without a leash. However, it's important to adhere to park rules as some visitors may not comply.
Large park set along the bike/walking path (1/4 mile to get to the park from the lot). Water on site, along with bags abd trash . Shade from the trees only, though - and none of the benches were shaded. Separate sections for large and small dogs.

Nice, well-maintained dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs. Only trick is finding the place using Google maps. I recommend typing "Merrymeeting Dog Park PARKING LOT," otherwise you will be told you've arrived while driving over a bridge!
Thomas J — Google review
Great park, fenced in with plenty of room for dogs to run. Park at the boat launch and it's a short, paved walk to the park. There's two separate areas for small and big dogs. Water fountains are turned on when weather is warmer. Waste stations are available to pick up after your pups. Avoid weekends and evenings if you prefer a less busy environment. The only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is that the directions were wrong on Google maps. We had to ask someone in the neighborhood who was kind enough to tell us.

I was confused when I went to 94 Water St. and didn’t see it, but you have to walk under the bridge and then another bridge. Don’t give up.

Very large fenced area. Separate area for small and large dogs. Clean, grass with some bench seating, walking path along a river. It is a quarter mile (at most) to the dog park. The GPS does NOT find it and sends you on a wild goose chase. You have to come down Water Street to the end (or ask locals, that's how we found it!).

Little Tokyo Restaurant is a modern Japanese eatery that offers a variety of traditional and contemporary dishes, including sushi and cocktails. It's a popular spot for lunch, offering bento boxes, stir-fried noodles, tempura dishes, and more. The restaurant is located near several attractions in Brunswick. Customers have praised the lunch specials and the quality of the sushi rolls. The restaurant also provides great service and a clean environment for diners to enjoy their meals.
My husband and I and one of our children met our friends here on a Saturday night in the summer. We ordered some sushi plates and a noodle plate. Everything was delicious! The server was very nice. The atmosphere was simple and calm- not too loud. We all enjoyed our food. Also, the bathroom was clean.

We live in an area where there is excellent Japanese food. We stopped in since most of the other places were closed on Monday. The service was excellent, the food was good and came out fast, but the taste was just average. It was a great price for a lot of food. The restaurant looked old, but clean, a little dark. Though it was a little too warm and would have been nicer if it was cooler. We still enjoyed ourselves.

We stopped here for dinner before seeing a show at the theatre. They have a nice selection of Japanese bottle beer but no beer on draught. The fish seemed decent, and the rolls were fine. I think this place is on par or a little above most roll style sushi places. Staff and service was great.

I’m strictly vegetarian and allergic to fish. I ordered 6 vegetarian maki rolls and make it crystal clear that I’m allergic and there CANNOT be any cross contamination. Once I got home (it was takeout), I went to go eat it and mid-bite found caviar (fish eggs) on my rolls. Small enough to miss at a casual glance but enough to cause a reaction. Also, it’s on a busy street with difficult parking, especially at this time of year and I live 35 minutes away so once I left there was no time to go back

Often walk by on the way to the Gelato Fiasco. This trip we went to Little Tokyo for dinner on the way to the Gelato Fiasco. They served miso soup and a salad before our appitizers, and both were very good. We shared a yellow tail tuna maki roll and a temaki roll as appitizers. The temaki was good but very messy to eat, which detracted from the experience. For dinner, my wife got teriyaki salmon, and I got the teriyaki beef. Both came with a side of steamed brocoli and carrots and sticky white rice. Next time, we would like to be more adventurous and try some of the other types of sushi.

My family lives in ME, and I’m located in VA. Tonight my parents went to Little Tokyo for their anniversary, as it’s one of their favorite locations to eat out. I called before they arrived and spoke with the owner and let him know I would like to pay for their meal, but not to tell them. He was delighted to be a coconspirator! My parents had a lovely time, and my mom said my dad ate more than he had in months (pneumonia). I’ve not been here, but they love it, and my sister is married to an executive chef, and it’s their favorite sushi place as well! Please go and see these lovely people!

Byrnes Irish Pub is a quintessential tavern that captures the essence of Ireland with its charming decor and inviting atmosphere. Adorned with traditional bar mirrors featuring Guinness, Smithwicks, and Murphys, it sets the stage for an authentic dining experience. Start your culinary journey here with their delightful Bangers and Guinness Bread—grilled Irish sausages served alongside a slice of house-made bread infused with Guinness.
Byrnes offers a charmingly decorated setting that perfectly complements its hearty and flavorful fare. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a taste of traditional Irish cuisine with a local twist. The food and drinks are consistently good, with standouts like the rich and comforting Irish coffee, which I absolutely love. Among the menu's highlights are the Leprechaun Balls, Irish Quesadillas, traditional Bangers & Mash, and Shepherd's Pie, all of which deliver on taste and authenticity. The Bread and Butter Pudding is another must-try, offering a delightful finish to any meal. The only slight disappointment was the pretzels, which were unfortunately too salty. However, the generally nice and attentive staff more than make up for this small misstep, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Mexican restaurant
Pancho Villa Mexican Restaurant is an unpretentious eatery and bar that serves traditional Mexican fare such as enchiladas, fajitas, and other classic dishes. It provides an authentic Mexican dining experience with excellent cuisine. Though the service was prompt and courteous, one might argue that the server lacked a bit of initiative. For instance, despite visiting multiple times to inquire about dessert and eventually deliver it, there was no attempt made to refill beverages like soda even when they were empty.
When my companion and I arrived they had not been open very long so there were few customers. We we greeted courteously and immediately after entering. Our plan was for lunch to be the main meal of the day. We were brought chips and salsa and our drink orders delivered quickly. The chips were fresh and the salsa delicious with a tangy taste I liked. I ordered a meal plate that included an enchilada, burrito, tostada, (beef was my meat choice) Mexican rice and refried beans. Everything I ate was beyond delicious. The food was very hot when it was brought to us. The portions were humongous, to the point of beyond generous. I've been looking for good Mexican food, and have found my new favorite Mexican restaurant. The restaurant is older but was very clean. The restrooms were clean. The seating was organized without crowding. There is a bar and an outside patio for use when the weather permits.

-Guacamole was fresh and awesome. -The waitress was super sweet- she is the reason I’m not leaving 1 star. -we were a party of 7 so we knew the food would take a little bit however 3 of the meals were kids meals (chicken nuggets(2) and a burger). 2 of the adult meals were burgers and then remaining 2 adult meals were chimichangas. It took over an hour to get our food. Oh and only 3 other tables had people at them 1 of which had their food when we arrived and 1 showed up as we were getting our food. So absolutely no reason why it should take that long. -I ordered 1 chimichanga with fajita chicken instead of pulled chicken. - I received 2 chimichangas, both with shredded chicken. The waitress offered to have them make me another. Of course I declined because I just waited over an hour. I’m not waiting another hour and having the rest of my party wait too. -No manager came to apologize, nothing. To make it even better the manager walked by numerous times and didn’t speak a word, while seeing a full plate of food pushed to the side. -the food was on my bill! 🙄 not today! I had the girl make the adjustment. I’m not paying for food I’m not eating. -they sell burgers but apparently do not have pickles or mayo to go on them. This was definitely a disappointment. We drove 40 minutes specifically to go to this Mexican restaurant because it was “authentic” and had awesome reviews. My husband’s chimichangas had American cheese in it. They come with red sauce on them instead of queso- we had to ask for the queso instead. Enchiladas come with red sauce (or green). Salsa was subpar at best. Unsweet tea was water with color. Not even the slightest taste of tea at all. Had 2 other people try it as well thinking maybe something was wrong with my taste buds...nope. Very disappointing. Best part was the guac and our server and at that she’s the one who didn’t put in the fajita chicken so yeah there’s that too. We will not be back.

Really “Mexican” place. Very good food. The service was quick and polite but the server didn’t go the extra mile. Eg. My pop was empty when she came to ask if everything was good, visited two other times, to ask about dessert and then to deliver dessert, and still no offer to refill. I could have asked but was curious to see if the offer would come.

This place was quite disappointing. Our waitress was very unfriendly despite our attempts to set the mood to a better level. We got a 3 piece combo each. We were upset to find out that we were charged more for an al pastor and carnitas meat that waitress recommend. By the way, it was no good anyway. Hard shell taco was deep fried (what?!). Nonsense! Hardly any flavor to any of these. Tamale was probably the best thing and the closest to being authentic. Below average meal, will not be back.

Delicious food. I grew up in Colorado where we have authentic Mexican restaurants like Mainers have Ice Cream shops. I'm sure I'll be eating here frequently. The service was a bit slow though.

I walked in just as they were about to close and they still took me open arms. The decor is very authentic feeling and warm lights small booths and a good size bar that seats about 10. They had several draft beers and margaritas on that drink list. I did not get opportunities to have one as I was traveling quite a distance . Orlando and the waitress whom I didn't get the name of we're both very pleasant and cleaning like crazy as they were finishing up the night! My burrito was wonderful and the service just as great. I will be back when in the area.

Silverware wasn't washed well enough/had a whitish inconsistent coating. Salsa is quite watery. Food was bland...one positive aspect is that they most likely don't use MSG, so it has more of a home made taste instead of commercial. Nachos a bit hard. I didn't complain and left a good tip. Made the mistake of not splitting a meal on a first visit to limit cost and get a feel for things.

Nestled within The Federal hotel, 555 North is a revival of chef-owner Steve Corry's beloved Portland restaurant. With a sophisticated yet laid-back ambiance, the restaurant offers an exceptionally creative and seasonal approach to food. Emphasizing locally-sourced ingredients, the menu features imaginative preparations of seafood, meats, and vegetables alongside delectable desserts. The upscale dining experience at 555 North showcases a modern twist on American cuisine with an emphasis on quality and presentation.
Don't believe any bad reviews. It was delicious, great service, just as good as the original Portland location. Chefs menu last night was exactly what I wanted at an amazing price. Bread, soup, salad, main entree and dessert all flawless.

A Truly Memorable Experience at 555 North. As a local business owner here in Brunswick, I really value great service, and 555 North absolutely delivered. From the moment I walked in, the space felt warm and welcoming. It’s upscale without being stuffy, and the ambiance made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. The service? Exceptional. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed to care that I had a great experience. That level of attentiveness doesn’t go unnoticed, especially for someone like me who understands how important good service is in any business. So refreshing to have a place like this in town, a spot that consistently offers great food, a beautiful setting, and truly top-notch service. As someone invested in this community, I’m grateful for the experience and proud to recommend 555 North to friends, visitors, and locals alike. Can’t wait to return!

We went here last minute for our anniversary instead of driving down to Portland, and I'm so glad we did! Service was top notch! The food was excellent, along with our drinks. We tried a few different things from appetizers to desserts and we were pleased with everything!

My husband and I chose the chefs special menu. Since there are two selections for each course, we decided to get one of each so we could sample everything. Bread was brought to our table with no butter. One of the first courses was soup for which we had no spoons. We waited and then had to walk up to the concierge to ask him for soup spoons and the butter. The peach salad and mussels were outstanding. One of the main courses, the hake, was almost inedible - it was over-baked and the smoky flavor was overwhelming. The pot de crème was delicious but the crème brûlée (which I usually love) had a thick layer of crystallized sugar on it. The ratio to the custard base was too high. Our server was friendly and tried to be attentive, but was clearly stretched thin. We noticed that the servers also had to act as bartenders, an unreasonable expectation for them. For the prices we paid, the service and the food should have been better.

Honestly, not that great. The other diners were pretentious and difficult to be around (I could have gone my whole life without hearing from the man with three fireplaces in one house). The atmosphere is cold. The food was mid with tiny portions. This is definitely a place that wants you to order your own bread, app, etc to make it a meal. At $150 for two people with one drink each and one take home dessert, that felt very not worth it to me, personally. Likely, not the target clientele if they cater to out of town guests. Service staff were very personable and did a wonderful job, I have no complaints at all about them. Townies beware.

We had very high hopes after reading the reviews for this restaurant, however our experience left much to the imagination when it came to fine dining. We had the four course meal. One out of four dishes I would say was very good. The other three were mediocre at best. Lastly, there was a hair in one of my dishes. Thankfully they brought me out a new dish, but did not offer any other accommodation for the mistake. Overall, the food was not worth the price and I would highly suggest driving a little farther, to Portland for a better fine dining experience.

Wow! The meal my group enjoyed here was perfection. The staff could not have been more attentive and accommodating. The food was delicious! The wines a perfect compliment to the meal. Can't recommend more highly!!!

I am not sure what happened with our experience last night. My husband booked a table with friends for my Birthday dinner. We spent $800 before tip to receive ice cold food and the worst service we have ever experienced in a fine dining establishment. This was the polar opposite of our most recent dinner here. Very disappointed and will not be back. It used to be my favorite restaurant in the area….

Flight Deck Brewing, established in 2017, aims to be a go-to destination brewery for the Brunswick community. It offers a constantly evolving tap list, live music performances, food trucks, and ample space for visitors to relax with their families or pets. Housed in the re-developed Brunswick Naval Air Stations Small Arms Firing Range, it provides an unusual and cool venue with both indoor and outdoor seating areas.
The flight deck, which was originally the Marine shooting gallery for the former base there is a super cute space. It has a lot of indoor/outdoor options, including space heaters for all of the outside areas. They even have mini covered picnic tables with heating, etc. You order food at a kiosk and beer from an attendant in the main bar area. The portion sizes for the pizza are filling. The salads are also tasty. They have a great beer selection with their stuff on tap and a few can options like the amazing sour I drank today. Dogs are welcome on leash in ALL areas, as long as they’re well-behaved. A great use / name for part of the former base! My father-in-law was stationed here and met his wife of nearly 55 years at the base ❤️ , which warmed my heart to see their “buy a Vet a beer” option that allows you to buy a beer now for a Vet later!! Worth a stop in if you are passing through or local!

I was very happy with the beer selections I've tried and look forward to visiting for another chance at sampling their offerings. The pizza choices are not your standard fare, but are instead unusual or even gourmet. The atmosphere is a pleasing aviation theme, though sparse, giving a slightly industrial feel. Bottom line, great beer and food.

Really glad we randomly stopped in to try a beer here. Flight themed brewery sandwiched between and airport and an airplane museum 😄 tons of seating options including outside in little heated huts! We tried Wings and P-3. Both were delicious. The flying dirty pizza was also great. I'd definitely stop back in if in the area. Sunset outside with a beer was really nice 💛

This brewery is quite amazing. The brews on tap have great flavor and variety. The adjacent wood oven pizzas are very good and priced well. The property itself has ample seating, indoor and outdoor and small heated huts. There also is a big screen TV and outdoor games. Honestly, this place does it right across the board. If there's only one thing to critique, it was the lack of a tasting flight; you can order 6oz "samples" for $6, otherwise a full pour starts around $9. Highly recommend.

I cannot attest to the beer quality, as I am more of a cider fan myself, and appreciate finding a local cider on tap! Brick oven pizza totally nailed, perfect crust and scrumptious flavor choices. Highly recommend.

Vegan & GF review 8/14/25- I did a make your own pizza with gf crust, vegan cheese, mushrooms and the garlic oil base instead of red sauce. I will say the garlic was way too strong so I couldn’t taste anything else. I’d recommend sticking with red sauce here lol. In the past I’ve had red sauce instead and the pizzas are 🔥🔥that’s why I’m still giving it a 5 star rating. This place was packed when we arrived at 6:30. They have lots of seating and the environment there is great with kids playing and happy dogs. We knew ahead of time that we’d have to wait about 40 mins for our pizza as expected since it was so busy. Worth the wait and it would be fun to bring some games to play while waiting.

Love this place. Great seats everywhere, great enthusiasm for the sport. Would like to see more fans at women's hockey games. Parking sucks, so if you see it, take it. Good place to bring the kids after dinner, as the games are over by 9pm so they'll head straight to bed. No tickets needed, and the snack bar is cheap.

This hockey arena was a big step up over the former Bowdoin arena. Holds a big crowd with great views all around. Things really get rocking when Colby or Bates come to town. Not too cold unless the weather outside is harsh but a warm jacket helps, comfortable seats. I just wish they would not blast music for the kids, not so fun for my old ears.

The Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum is housed in a beautifully restored 1820s residence that was once home to the esteemed Civil War hero, college professor, and governor, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The museum showcases the life and legacy of Chamberlain, who played a significant role in American history as a Unionist Brigadier General during the Civil War.
Our guided tour experience was fantastic. I had a pretty good knowledge of Chamberlain the military leader before the tour but I had a much better understanding of the man afterwards. There is a gift shop on site, too.
Ryan S — Google review
This was a wonderful experience for two Maine folks, one of whom is a deep fan of Chamberlain. Our docent Peggy was a delight, and the tour was a lot of fun. We even learned some things at least one of us didn't know. One thing to be aware of is that the tour meant climbing a staircase up and down. Site Director Tony was extremely knowledgeable. Both were very welcoming. Great gift shop. Don't miss the sandalwood hand soap!

A really interesting museum about one of American history’s most fascinating characters. I have long been interested in Joshua Chamberlain, so could not pass up the opportunity to stop by this museum (Chamberlain’s home) on my way through Maine. The museum offers tours—they are included with the $15 price of admission—and I was given a personal and informative tour by an incredibly knowledgeable tour guide named Dana Carey. The tour takes you through each room of the house, where, in each case, different stories are related and Chamberlain’s life unfolds. Our tour lasted almost an hour and a half! The museum is filled with original furniture and memorabilia from Chamberlain‘s life, which were fascinating to see up close. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area, or making the drive if you’re not!
Jon K — Google review
My friend and I love the Joshua Chamberlain Museum! It was my third visit. His role at Little Round Top during the three days at Gettysburg was extremely important and not a frequently used strategy. His home in Brunswick, ME is lovely to walk through - the many kinds of wood used, wall paper, colors, furnishings, etc. The house was moved from the back of the street to the front then first floor raised to second story and a new first floor constructed! This museum is a must see!
Gloria B — Google review
Before visiting I knew a fair amount about Chamberlain as a general and a bit as a politician. But visiting his home taught me a lot about Chamberlain as a human being. Being in the same space he lived in, seeing some of the design choices and changes he made to the house make Chamberlain a much more "real" person. Our guide made the visit incredibly informative and enjoyable, and it's clear that all who participate in keeping it open to the public take tremendous pride in what they do. I'd also recommend taking the walking tour of Bowdoin College (we arrived about an hour early so we did this before the tour of the house). The Museum has an easy-to-follow map which highlights some of the places in the College which relate to Chamberlain.
BC S — Google review
This was a great tour, I learned a lot of things I did not know about Gen. Chamberlin. The home’s architecture is always very beautiful. I took the time to drive under 5mins to the cemetery where he is buried, I would recommend doing this also!
Katie P — Google review
It was a great tour! Today, Troy took us on a tour of the Chamberlain House and asked us if there was any specific time period we were interested in. I requested his post-war period and my wife asked for insight into their domestic life. We learned Joshua Chamberlain was very futuristic and thought 2-3, even 4 generations ahead. He championed military readiness, co-ed college enrollment, and redemptive/reconciliation minded government. I highly recommend taking advantage of this great resource and the knowledgeable docents. Go out of your way to visit! (During COVID, schedule an appointment)
Zach W — Google review
Amazing museum! Free for military. Even knowing quite a bit about Chamberlain already, I learned a lot. My wife enjoyed it even though she usually is less than enthusiastic about history. You have to tour with a guide, and it helps bring the old house to life as they relate fascinating details and answer questions. Highly recommended!

Swinging Bridge Park is an intriguing location with a fascinating history. Constructed to facilitate the commute of French Canadian mill workers across the Androscoggin River, this pedestrian bridge offers splendid vistas and features a well-maintained walking trail on the opposite side. However, parking options are severely limited at this hidden gem.
Worth the stop. We were just visiting town and our local friend told us about this cute bridge. We missed the pull off at first, but there was just enough parking in the small lot. It was a beautiful day with beautiful views, great scenery, & plenty of historical reference around the area so we could read about the bridge. We learned from our friend that a nearby bridge within site used to have a lower level for cars to drive across, but it was taken out when a local lady got stuck sideways in it! It was a beautiful bridge & had a quaint feel to it. You could feel it sway or flex just a bit - part of the fun of this style bridge. Worth a stop!

Thomas Point Beach & Campground is a nature lover's paradise, open from May to October. The beach offers a clean tidal waterfront and 85 acres of woodland, along with manicured lawns for picnics and games. With over 100 campsites for tents or RVs, it's perfect for campers. There are also volleyball and softball areas, as well as a large playground for children. Despite its proximity to Brunswick and downtown, the area feels secluded.
Attended the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass festival over Labor Day weekend. Wonderful setting, music and friendships. Truly a favorite of all the festivals I attend! Nice pine grove camping along a tidal inlet. Birds, beach and bluegrass - a perfect ending to summer.

Drove out hoping to cool off, but found the gate closed and learned the beach is only accessible with a camping reservation. It wasn’t clearly listed anywhere ahead of time. Hiking Trails
Hamilton Audubon Sanctuary, managed by Maine Audubon, is a 90-acre natural area in West Bath, Maine. It offers a 2.5-mile trail network through coastal forests and open meadows. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching and spot coastal shorebirds and waterfowl. The sanctuary provides a peaceful environment for hiking and enjoying nature. During high tide, the coastal views are particularly stunning. In winter, the trails may be icy but offer a beautiful snowy landscape for exploration.
Stayed close enough to walk in and hiked several times. Very gentle hiking but it could get muddy if it has been raining. Evening views of fireflies in the meadow were magical. Good birdwatching (obviously?).

Cute little trail! Very ethereal in some spots, like fairy land as my 10 y/o says. LOTS of cute little birds, many different species. Saw some dark eyed juncos, red winged black birds, seagulls, variety of ducks and some geese etc Itd be a great spot for a photo shoot! Lots of roots and quite muddy in some spots, but we didn't have a single tick! The bridge at the beginning had a great view and the smell of the salt was refreshing. We took our 1 y/o and she did great!

Magical little hike. Coastal views, woods, field. High tide is best for views. Winter can be very icy (especially the first stairs down to the bridge), but very lovely with snow and highly recommended.

I discovered this place almost by accident and so glad I did. There is a nice variety of different terrain from open meadow to deep old forest. Lovely views out over the water with mostly shade and nice breezes. Wear sturdy shoes though, there are extensive tree roots in the trail that make for tricky footing if you are not paying attention.

Another great public space owned by the Maine Audubon. Enjoyable easy trails through meadows and coastal evergreen forests, that overlook salt marshes and tidal mudflats. At the trailhead/parking area, there is a QR code at the information sign that can be scanned for use as a trail map. Be mindful of the shallow root systems and enjoy your time in this beautiful area!

Went out geocaching on one of the warmer days recently, and I kind of underestimated how long the blue trail was. Luckily my 3yo is a trooper, and had a great time (the 1yo fell asleep on my back, lol). We didn't venture on the green trail, so I'm not sure what they were like, but the blue was quite rooty, so I highly suggest wearing strong-soled shoes. It's a beautiful spot, and I'm really looking forward to coming back (my only complaint is folks not following the "no dogs" rule...)

Wild Oats Bakery & Café is a beloved spot in Brunswick, offering a relaxed atmosphere and an array of freshly baked goods and light meals. Since 1991, this cozy cafe has been serving up delectable fare, including breakfast paninis and sandwiches made with their fresh daily bread. Locals appreciate the commitment to using all-natural ingredients and the focus on environmental and social responsibility.
I absolutely love this place. The food is amazing, the staff is extremely friendly, and is full of goodies! They have expanded their hardlines section to include more made in Maine items, things from local artists and creators, as well as supporting the local schools. If you want the full Wild Oats experience, go early in the morning when all the pastries are plentiful. I also love their premade meals and baked goods you can take home and cook yourself!

Wow very fresh delicious sandwhiches! The bread is made fresh and everything they put on it is wicked good! I got the turkey my boyfriend got pulled pork and they were both phenomenal. I also got the potato corn chowder which was amazing. The bakery section is huge with so many options. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We were traveling so they gave us a bag of ice so we could safely transport our desserts home. The Maine blueberry cupcake was out of this world. I look forward to visiting again

Wild Oats is one of my favorite places to visit! There’s always something new to try, and I love their desserts and food. Some of the dishes are a bit pricey, but they’re made with real ingredients and worth it. I highly recommend visiting Wild Oats often! The staff is always friendly and attentive. The only downside is that parking can be a bit tricky, especially during peak hours. You can park in the Outback lot or around the building. Updated: I still love wild-oats HOWEVER I drive 2 hours to get to them and they took away my favorite dessert which was popular amount many people! When I asked if I could preorder it they could not give me an answer. Still good food , but sometimes you shouldn’t change a good thing , also IF TAKING DESSERT BARS TO GO - do NOT let them stack them as they will melt into each-other like mine did, when I got home and put them in fridge 2 of my bats were destroyed ! Will still go back. But am disappointed!

The Merrymeeting parkrunners recommended this cafe, and we ended up dining here twice over the course of one weekend. The food, pastries, and hot beverages all are delicious. There's so much variety, ranging from hot soups to paninis to pre-prepared take-away to a large assortment of baked goods...if you cant find what appeals to your tastes, I don't know where else you could go. There is ample seating in both indoor and outdoor areas, with the outdoor areas having covered seating.

We flew in for a quick trip and walked over to Wild Oats from the airport — such a pleasant surprise. The bakery case was filled with amazing-looking muffins and other treats, and the menu had plenty of soups and thoughtful options for vegan and gluten-free eaters. I’m not from the area, but I can honestly say I wish we had a place like Wild Oats back home. It’s the perfect spot to grab a bite, relax, and enjoy the day with family or friends. A true local gem.

Huge space! Really impressive size to the building. Staff are kind and helpful. Family friendly. Food is delicious. Some limitations to the ingredients in their deli. For example, they have a sandwich called an Italian on their menu, but they do not carry salami, pepperoni, or provolone. So, make sure you read the ingredients because some sandwiches are not named well, and there are a number of ingredients they simply don't carry. That being said, what they do carry is fresh and delicious!

Super delicious, super convenient! Just steps from the Rail Station Visitor Center, you'll find this very delightful cafe, with excellent service, toasty and tasty sandos, and a place to set yourself down outside. I chose outside, as I had 3 bags with me from the train, so it worked out wonderfully for me. I had the turkey with sprouts, (instead of spinach) sando...and some very refreshing lemon Ice Tea! But those snappy pickles and crispy chips...nice touch! I was waiting on the Bus connection at the Station, and I was hungry, plus my bags were heavy...so again, super convenient for you travelers getting off the train or bus. Delicious food. I highly recommend it!

The food here was great! All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We were seated quickly and service was very fast. The salad I had was really fresh- one of the best salads I’ve had in a restaurant. My family had burgers, and they said they were delicious. The toppings were fresh and flavorful, just like the salad. The atmosphere and decor were welcoming and fun to look at.

Visited here after a theatre performance at MSMT. Quick to make reservations via very friendly staff. Our server Sophie was excellent….had a great sense of humor and went out of her way to meet our needs….explained the specials very well and regularly checked in with us to see if we needed anything. Limited wine selection, but what they offer is good. Our group of 4 was pleased with food and service. Why rated food a 4? Stephen’s Dilemma was huge and had a lot of garlic. Some will certainly rate this a 5, understandably! Atmosphere a 4? Can be noisy to have an after performance dinner and discussion….but we’re old! Will certainly come back and I hope Sophie is our server!

This restaurant is so adorable and so was our server Bella! Been here three times and had the pleasure of Bella's bubbly personality three times. Oh, and the food is pretty good too! I've had burgers twice and our group had Stephen's dilemma the other time. The burgers were cooked perfectly and the pasta dish was amazing! Can't beat the price either. Our cocktails have always been yummy as well! Can't wait to go back next time I'm in the area..

Nestled in Brunswick, Wildflours Gluten-Free Bakery is a haven for those seeking scrumptious baked goods without gluten. This delightful bakery offers an impressive array of treats that highlight Maine's seasonal produce, including mouthwatering muffins, cakes, and pies. Standout flavors like the cranberry coconut muffin and the beloved Maine blueberry muffin are just a few examples of their creative offerings. For anyone with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance, finding satisfying breakfast options can be quite challenging when dining out.
Wonderful GF bakery with amazing muffins, breads, cookies and other treats. But...my absolute favorite is their raisin bread! (see photo) The volume of raisins per slice is insane! Never disappointed here. Everything is delicious!

I have been craving a donut for a while now (read 4 months or more) but haven't gotten around to making one. As soon as I found this place I put it on my list for the weekend. You guys, this donut is 💯!!! So delicious, moist and the flavor is wow! It doesn't need the glaze, but the glaze is also delicious. This one is PB chocolate, but I would eat any of them! Can't wait to go back to try more!

LOVED the cherry coconut muffin!!!! WOW!!! The pumpkin chocolate chip and the low sugar blueberry were not amazing to me, but that cherry coconut one just blew me away!!! It’s so exciting to see the assortment available and to know the bakery is a dedicated gluten free one!!’

Service here was amazing! This gluten free bakery has got to be one of the BEST things I have ever had before! The service here is very good and I must say they are really nice employees. I hope to come back to this place over the weekends and even tho it's expensive all it matters is that it's the best in town! Also, thank you for everything you guys do for the brunswick area teen center! I go to the teen center alot and I have some of the granola deserts and I LOVE them alot. I liked the two boston cream donuts and the smores bar I had this morning. Again thank you guys for everything and I can see this business being the best ones in town!

Their bread is absolutely phenomenal and brought so much happiness to my gluten-less heart. I have celiac and am quite lactose intolerant among other stomach issues. I found out it has no dairy either! I had no issues after having it! So happy! Best gluten-free bread I have had yet, and that is after being a regular consumer at other completely gluten-free bakeries. The bread is soft and has a beautiful crust. Stayed soft after several days! They even have coffee ice cubes if you want an iced coffee! Or even get milk to go with your delicious baked goods. The staff is so so friendly and was very patient with all my questions. Only good things to say. Did I mention the bread?
Carissa B — Google review
This is my favorite local place for a decadent sweet treat that I know is safe. Staff is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Food is delicious and safe for those with celiac. Seafood restaurant
Cameron's Lobster House is a classic, family-owned seafood spot that offers a casual dining experience with indoor and outdoor seating as well as carhop service. Despite its unassuming appearance from the street, this place is a hidden gem for seafood lovers. The menu features a variety of fresh Maine seafood dishes, including lobster rolls, fried oysters, haddock fish n chips, scallop baskets, and Cajun haddock sandwiches.
We didn't just want a lobster roll, we wanted an authentic, Maine experience. We found that at Cameron's. We were greeted with a warm welcome. Our waitress, Darby, was engaging and entertaining. Thanks for "Reserving" our table! We ordered the hot lobster roll per her guidance. DELICIOUS! She even "deconstructed" our strawberry shortcake to go. Can't go wrong visiting this establishment.
Maria H — Google review
What a fun old fashioned drive inn! It will bring back memories for those born before 1970! The food was not as fun as the surroundings- but certainly edible as we finished every bite (we were famished). The haddock on the salad was fresh but I was hoping for a bit more than a 4oz serving. The salad in the salad was meh. The fried haddock dinner was flavorless except the fries- they were the best part of the meal. The oysters in the oyster stew was a bit tough but it had fresh ingredients. (It was milk, butter and oysters- add your own salt and pepper). We weren’t able to get refills on drinks or order a dessert 🍨 . I think they may prefer you stay in the car. I’m glad we stopped but will not be visiting again. $$$ for what you get.

Ok- had to stop by and check this place out. First, it was on my list of places to review but I had here’s about it from my electrician. Yes, it is a whole in the wall place. Nothing to look at and no posh tables or chairs, but the food was amazing. The calamari was tender and came with the most robust garlicky butter sauce that we ended up using on everything else we ordered. I had the broiled haddock plate with fries and onion rings and MMC had the scallop special with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. The fish was cooked just right flaky and tasty and the scallops were tender and juicy. Both sets of fries were crisp and not greasy. It is not the cheapest and you have to pay for drink refills but it was fresh, the service was great and the food came out fast.

Absolute perfection. Simple fresh food, great service, lovely place that is a little bit of a time capsule. Tonight we enjoyed the steamer dinner plus some fried clams. We will definitely return.

Cameron's Lobster House is a simple, nostalgic diner with a welcoming atmosphere. I tried the lobster BLT wrap for the first time, and it was absolutely delicious! The fries and baked beans complemented the meal perfectly—be sure to give the baked beans a try. The place is clearly a local favorite, with plenty of regulars dining in. The menu is packed with options, and the prices are reasonable. One standout detail: the kitchen and restaurant are spotless, which is always a key factor in my reviews. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Museum
The Brunswick Naval Aviation Museum, located at the former Naval Air Station Brunswick, played a crucial role in safeguarding the North Atlantic during significant conflicts such as World War II and the Cold War. Although the station has been decommissioned and is transitioning into a civilian airport, its historical significance lives on through this museum. Visitors can explore a wealth of educational resources showcasing Maine's pivotal role in these conflicts, including aircraft, artifacts, and personal accounts from those who served at the station.
What a great way to spend a few hours with my family! This place is small, but there is so much information here. We learned a lot. We were allowed to sit in the cockpit of an actual airplane. In the back, they have a flight simulator where we flew F-14s!
Ashley S — Google review
A wonderful experience. Tour guides offer a unique experience giving detailed info on the mission of the Naval Air Station, the life of the people who served and their families, the aircraft that operated there and more. You get to sit inside a real cockpit of the P-3 Orion, see inside the engine that powered it. Outside the museum stands a P-3 Orion aircraft, and a P-2 Neptune guards the main entrance to the landing. Visit the memorial gardens that stand as memorials to crews that gave their lives in defense of this country. Learn about how British Royal Navy pilots were trained here during WWII. They also have 2 flight simulators where you get to fly your choice of over 100 airplanes, and fly out of and into just about any airport around the world with full instruction of an experienced simulator pilot to guide you through the entire flight. If you enjoy anything about the history of the base, mission or people and their contributions to this country from World War II and beyond, then this place is a must see for you.

This museum is a Great place to visit. We took a guided tour and learned so much about how this was at one time a very important base for training. P-2’s - P-3’s and Corsairs flew from this base. It’s no longer an active base and this museum is all volunteer run and funded. If you are in this area stop in and visit. You will have a good time and these veterans will love to see you and tell you about the history. It’s all free. They do like to get donations.
Brad T — Google review
Very interesting museum! The staff is very informative, and are happy to give you a guided tour of the museum. There is lots of information about naval anti-submarine patrols and the Navy survival training, which takes place in Redington. The flight simulator is also very realistic!

Visitors can enjoy the tidal beach, watch clammers at low tide, or set up camp at the campground with its open fields and 9-hole disc golf course.
I will miss "Music by the Sea" I am hoping new owners will keep it a campground and keep the festivals going. It would be a shame to see that pristine area developed.
Jan D — Google review
We had the best time staying at this campground!! Very few amenities and only a handful of 30/50 amps, which didn't bother us. The campground is large with playgrounds, frisbee golf, woods and a beach. Check the availability because they hold festivals. We will return on our next visit to Brunswick.
Susan M — Google review
How disappointing that this place now charges for foot traffic. This beach has been a great swimming spot for locals for years and for those not driving in or using the facilities, why does there have to be a charge? It's the OCEAN. Limiting locals to only those willing or able to pay to walk in is a crime. And a real shame for what used to be nice place.
Blue J — Google review
We used to love coming here with our young daughter. Didn’t mind paying the small entrance fee. Ever since it was purchased the gate is permanently locked and I see no way to get in. It’s a shame because this was a beautiful, little beach
Emily H — Google review
Loved the horseshoe crabs and the huge tidal change. Did not like the restroom.
Hymee B — Google review
Drove out hoping to cool off, but found the gate closed and learned the beach is only accessible with a camping reservation. It wasn’t clearly listed anywhere ahead of time. Saw others show up and turn around too. On a hot day, it’s hard knowing this beautiful shoreline isn’t publicly accessible. Hoping for more transparency—and more shared spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Anna S — Google review
Have to go through a campground to get to beach. But upon arrival gate was locked and no other entrance. Do not make a wasted trip it's closed.
Kristie N — Google review
Nice campground with open fields, a playground, small beach, picnic tables, and more. There is even a 9 hole disc golf course. Low price for daily admission, and much to do. Beach is sandy, but located on a muddy tidal zone, so swimming can get a little messy.

Pizza delivery
Domino's Pizza is a popular pizza delivery and carryout chain that offers a diverse menu of pizzas, as well as various other dishes and sides. Whether you have been unaware of its existence for your entire life or if the restaurant has recently undergone changes, this establishment is truly impressive. The pizza here is not only delectable but also highly affordable when compared to other non-palatable alternatives. With reasonable prices and exceptional flavor, it's hard to resist indulging in Domino's Pizza.
Very nice place for a lunch or dinner. Service was very good. People at this place are very friendly and considerate. I did a carry out but I found that there is dine in too.

They manually mark orders as completed and delivered even before they leave the store. Called and asked what happened cause I got texted that the order was delivered. Was told the systems been doing that on its own. Got my food more than an hour after ordering and it was ice cold. Won’t be going back to this location again.
Gerald M — Google review
The workers here were outright completely rude to me and my sister. They ignored both of us to our face multiple times and when my sister corrected one man on how to say her name he went "yea okay whatever thats the same thing." I like domino's food but I definitely wont be coming to this location again. The staff are so mean! We ordered one item and it took 20 minutes. Tell your employees to be nice to people its basic human decency!
Morgan H — Google review
Ordered around 5:30 and watched the app progress. Out for delivery, makerked complete 6:20. 6:45 rolls around, I call the store and get busy signal immediately all 5 calls. I get in the truck and arrive to the store 7:15. Everyone's lost, they cant contact the driver. This is where the story gets neat. When I drove up, there were two teens outside on their phone. I called the store while standing there and got a busy signal, no employees on the phone. Some clearly under the influence, middle-aged woman comes in from delivery. She hears the complaint, and unforwards the call-back from the phone and walks away from me... Ok. Got my money back. Got back to the house where the delivery driver threw my order on the ground; the pizzas have 1/2 cheese when I ordered extra. Glad I got my money back. This place is doomed. Don't order here.
Eric C — Google review
If you can get someone who actually reads and follows the special requests for things like "NO GARLIC" the food is pretty good. Unfortunately 8 out of 10 times they get it wrong. As a person with food allergies I dislike having to suffer because they are in too much of a rush to really pay attention. I have ordered both on the website and over the phone...doesn't seem to matter.
Melinda — Google review
Horrible food. I am a teacher and the cafeteria at work has better pizza. The toppings were sparse….. and I mean SPARSE. I found one leaf of spinach between the 2 pieces I ate. The other toppings were the same. A frozen pizza would have been INFINITELY better. The salad was old and mostly wilted with that “this lettuce is going bad” smell and taste. Ended up throwing away $17 worth of salad- it was that Bad. Brownies were meh…. VERY dry. Put them in ice cream to try to salvage something out of this order. Positive Note: The garlic bites were fantastic!!!
Christine C — Google review
When I called up I asked them to put garlic butter on the crust. They told me they do that automatically. Got me pizza with no garlic butter on the crust at all it was just dry. DONT ORDER HERE!
Emily H — Google review
Not great experience with the tracker- showed up when there was 1-5 minutes left, then when it was supposed to be ready it was put into the oven. Moreover, seems to be stingy with the pepperoni. We’ve been burned in the past at this location on light pepperoni, so ordered extra.. doesn’t seem to be much extra to us

Classic Maine Charm and Great Eats at Fat Boy Drive-In Fat Boy Drive-In is everything you want in a nostalgic roadside stop: classic vibes, friendly service, and food that hits the spot. We stopped by while visiting Maine and were instantly charmed by the old-school carhop setup and laid-back atmosphere. The menu is full of comfort food favorites, and everything we tried was delicious. The onion rings were crispy and golden, the Royal Burger was juicy and flavorful, and the fried scallops were perfectly cooked with a light, crunchy coating that let the fresh seafood shine. We topped it all off with a caramel frappe that was rich, creamy, and absolutely worth the calories. Service was quick and friendly, and even though it was busy, the staff kept things moving with a smile. It’s clear this place has been a local favorite for generations and now we know why. If you're anywhere near Brunswick, Fat Boy Drive-In is a must-visit. Whether you're craving a burger, seafood, or just a blast from the past, this spot delivers.

Great staff and service. The clam dinner was average. The serving size for the price was below average at best. Would you pay 25$ for the food pictured?

So sad. A shadow of its former self. Been coming here for 60 years. The days of beautiful seafood baskets, pints of stellar fried seafood, thick wonderful ice cream frappes, music from the jukebox are gone. Didn’t get to have our usual lobster rolls because they were out of lobster (really?) nor could they make a chocolate frappe(!). And what are they using in their frappes anyhow, these days? Our black raspberry frappe was some strange concoction of flavoring and milk - didn’t hold a candle to the Fat Boy frappes of old. The crabmeat was an odd pinkish color. The burgers thin and overcooked. The whole place is dilapidated. Picnic tables way the heck away from the restaurant, clearly too far for the hops going back and forth. It was such a sad experience. The only light was the super sweet friendly hop. Unfortunately, this visit marked the end of an era for us. Will have to find another go-to for our food stop as we travel north for the summer.

I haven’t been here in a few years since they changed owners… I was a little apprehensive after people talking about it not being the same and all that jazz! Let me tell you we have gone twice now and yes maybe some things have changed but prices aren’t bad and my burger both times have been juicy and delicious!! The fries were piping hot! Service was great both times! The second time especially! The kid waiting on us was so nice and friendly!! People don’t like change I get it! But honestly I think it was just as good when it was old owners!! Give it a real try!!

This place has gone downhill very quickly. Facilities in need of a major restoration. Inside dining is no longer an option. No longer has pretty young women working as car hops. Food is good but it's just not the same.

The onion rings were outstanding. The burgers were pretty good but not great. It has a great ambiance as it’s a throwback drive up spot. The service was great as well.

If you find yourself in Brunswick, Maine, make sure to swing by Fielders Choice Ice Cream for a delightful treat that perfectly captures the spirit of summer. This charming spot offers an impressive array of both hard and soft serve ice cream flavors, making it a fantastic choice after a day spent outdoors or as a sweet ending to your meal.
What a great stop for ice cream. The drive thru is so convenient and it was nice having the fenced in area in back with the picnic tables. The choices were so hard to choose from and the prices we paid for the huge scoops is so worth the stop.

So nine dollars for a Sunday very limited topping caramel limited, whip, whipped cream, limited nuts if you’re gonna charge that kind of money, please put out a decent product. I will not B frequenting this establishment I probably spent over $200 last year with them. Please get some quality control in place and I’m normally a great tipper.! I work Way too hard for my money to throw it away like this dairy Frost here we come soft serve peanut butter, I guess!

This is our go to ice cream place when we’re in the Brunswick, ME area. They have many different flavors and several soft serve options. Their serving sizes are quite generous that I really appreciate! I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
Norm W — Google review
Great place to have ice scream if you are in the area! They have both counter service and drive-thru. Prices are fair, portions are generous so plan accordingly. A small was more than enough for me. They don’t take card, only cash, which is why I docked them a star. They have an ATM on site with a service fee of $2. Outside seating was very pleasant and is fenced in making it easier to manage kids.

Such a wonderful place! My son and I stopped while on a father/son trip, it was after the artists had left for the day, but we were able to tour the galleries and purchase several wonderful pieces. Thank you to the people and the artists that make this happen, and thanks to Phil Rosenthal for letting me know such a wonderful place exists!

I was greeted warmly as soon as I approached the building. There is so much activity going on. I watched a couple artists demo their projects. A lovely young man named Scott showed me around the building. I purchased a framed rendering of a flower. Also a beautiful rug by Lloyd for a Christmas present that I was thrilled to bring home . I am in VA. If I lived in Maine, I would be a regular shopper.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe House in Brunswick holds immense historical significance as the former residence of the famed author. During her time there, she found inspiration for her iconic novel 'Uncle Tom's Cabin.' The house, constructed in the early 1800s, is now a museum and preserves the writing room where Stowe worked. It also has ties to poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and is recognized as a crucial stop on the Underground Railroad.
Really cool house with a lot of history. You are able to see the house from the outside at any time however to go inside you must make an appointment in advance. However I was able to peak inside and read a cool blurb talking about Harriet Beecher Stowe.
Benjamin S — Google review
Stopped by while traveling the Northeast. Wasn't able to get into the house. I agree with other reviews that the house looked institutional. It was quite a large property, in fact. There is a small sign in the parking lot giving an overview of Stowe's work while living in the house. It sounds like she vetted portions of the novel with a coterie who met at the house for literary and political meetings.
Travel T — Google review
Keeping up historical houses is difficult. The fact that university dollars are required to fund this historic home underscores the challenge of preserving our history.
Jason M — Google review
Appointment required to see one room that’s open to public. Without access, just a quick picture stop
Justin S — Google review
It was a great place to finally go with my husband. We had such a great time seeing the age and it was cool to actually see what it was like living in the same place Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. Would definitely come again with my kids so they can see what life was like back then.
SuperK G — Google review
Great house which we could not visit inside.

The house 🏠 is one room where Harriet Beecher Stow wrote, Uncle Tom's Cabin. We stopped after hours and I was able to peer into the window to see the room where she wrote this famous piece of literature. It wasn't charming for the period. It looked institutional.

Such a beautiful restoration, preserving the history of this home. In addition to being the site where Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote "Uncle Tom's Cabin", Henry Wadsworth Longfellow rented a room here while enrolled at Bowdoin College.

Music school
The Bowdoin International Music Festival is a summer event that draws students from across the country to study under top musicians. The festival offers daily events, including student concerts and community activities, making it a must-visit for music enthusiasts. With outstanding performances by both students and faculty, the festival creates an artistically stimulating atmosphere that fosters remarkable progress among attendees. Even if you can't attend in person, many performances are live-streamed for virtual enjoyment.
The Bowdoin International Music Festival has been and continues to be a highlight of our summers in Maine in since we built a home here. The caliber and skill of the students is outstanding and their Young Artist performances are not to be missed. The subscription performances by faculty are absolutely not to be missed. And even we can’t attend in person, many of the performances are live-streamed. We’re delighted to be supporters of the Festival and recommend others do the same to continue to support classical music education.

The concert was excellent. Truly outstanding performance. The venue (high school) was OK. Given the shallow incline of the theatre and the placement of the piano, it was not possible to see the conductor and much of the orchestra.

The Pejepscot History Center in Brunswick offers a glimpse into the rich and diverse history of the community. The center operates a free museum that showcases various aspects of the area's heritage. Visitors can explore rotating displays from the center's collection, and guided tours are available, including partnerships with the Harriet Beecher Stowe house and Chamberlain house.
Visited both the Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain home & the Skolfield-Whittuer home in Brunswick. All the staff were extremely pleasant & knowledgeable, and both museum gift shops are really good. Highly recommend!

Visited the Chamberlain Museum after my daughter toured Bowdoin. It was an excellent, interesting and educational tour! As a self proclaimed Gettysburg nerd I loved learning more about the leader of the 20th Maine! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. I highly recommend a trip here!
Mike L — Google review
A free display in the front room is always rotating with a new curation from their collection. Tours of the building and in partnership with Harriet Beecher Stowe house and Chamberlain house seem available. I only wish there was more public access to materials like I've seen at historical societies in smaller towns, but I understand their need to protect pictures, maps, books and documents.

The Skolfield-Whittier House in Maine is a community history center that offers a captivating journey into the past. This well-preserved house provides an authentic glimpse into the lives of three generations of a prominent Brunswick family, including a sea captain and two esteemed medical professionals. With its unheated interior and unchanged appearance since 1925, visiting this historic dwelling feels like stepping back in time. The knowledgeable guides offer private tours, sharing valuable insights about the house and its fascinating history.
We came on a weekday afternoon and got a private tour! The guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of the house and family. It is a priceless treasure and fully preserved - I am a huge fan of historic houses and have visited countless across the US and this one was by far the best. An absolute must-see for anyone visiting Maine!

Among them are renowned names like Charles Movalli and occasional pieces by iconic figures such as Neil Welliver and Andrew Wyeth. The gallery offers an impressive collection that highlights New England landscapes, making it a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates fine art.
My sisters and I loved the beautiful artwork. We all have very different tastes and all saw something we really liked. Unfortunately although we respect the time, effort, heart and soul put into the art alas our budgets didn't allow any purchases. Perhaps someday. Thank you for welcoming us in to admire. Shere Punjab is a cozy Indian restaurant known for its staple dishes like curry, saag paneer, and mango ice cream. Customers have enjoyed the fantastic spicing and heat level options ranging from 1 to 10. The staff is friendly and accommodating, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. With several vegan options available, this spot offers delicious food that caters to various preferences.
Nice family run restaurant. The server was very nice and the food was very good. We ordered chana masala, sweet Lassi, aloo Naan and tandoori roti. Loved all of it. We packed extra for dinner too. We found parking behind the restaurant and also at the beginning of the street- It is beside an Italian restaurant Impasta. Would love to visit again while returning.
Akshat J — Google review
I have never eaten Indian food before. Shere Punjab was an excellent introduction to eating Indian food. The food is absolutely fantastic! There is a well optioned menu. The place is small, cozy, intimate. It is like being invited to dinner. The staff there are very friendly. Our waitress was very kind and patient with us and helped us pick out a medley of different dishes and appetizers explaining each one. You will pay up eating here. But it is very delicious! Parking is all on the street, but Brunswick is a pedestrian friendly city. I highly recommend eating here. It was a great experience.
Awoken A — Google review
I recently ordered takeout from Shere Punjab on Maine Street in Brunswick, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. There’s no dine-in option currently due to staff shortage, but the takeout service was prompt and polite, which I appreciated. Sadly, the food quality was very poor. The chole was undercooked, the naan was hard and barely chewable, and the onion bhajiya were extremely oily, they were literally floating in oil. I really wanted to support a local place, but the taste and texture were off across all dishes. For the price, it wasn’t worth it. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant until they improve food preparation and consistency. The service was decent, but the meal itself fell far short of expectations.
Vijay T — Google review
My girlfriend and here tried the vegetarian and vegan lunch choices. I will say that lunch choice for both was a really good deal! The flavors were complex and I like food spicy which helped make the meal a bit more enjoyable. Let me say that for a budget lunch meal, for two it was close to 36 dollars for two entrees and naan, and a soup which was reasonable for the amount of food we received! I would recommend it. The man who greeted us was friendly and personally came over to give us dietary recommendations as we were both in need of recommended options
Fahheed — Google review
The food here is fantastic. Family made recipes, all from scratch. The owners are so helpful to guide. educate and help in anyway possible. I had ordered my dish a hair too spicy (still fantastic) and when the owner came and asked how I liked everything, I mentioned I ordered it a touch too spicy. (all my fault) His immediate response, "would you like me to get you some yogurt?" YES! And it was homemade! I could tell because I also make homemade yogurt. When he brought the check I mentioned the yogurt, and he gave me a tutorial on how they make theirs. That was the icing on the cake. This place is so far superior than a cookie cutter place. You can see and taste the pride they take in their food. We've so far tried 5 dishes and all were delicious! I'm already planning my next order so I can try something new. Oh, and best part, being gluten free is not a problem here!
Cris D — Google review
This establishment is to-go only. Hence, no atmosphere or service. The only dish I've tried (and try at every single Indian restaurant) is the Lamb Curry if not the Lamb Korma. The rice was plain. I've never seen plain long rice served at an Indian restaurant. The Curry was flavorful but the lamb is still very tough. You're craving Indian food? Fine. But not the greatest.
Jd V — Google review
My wife and I happened by the Shere Punjab while were visiting Bowdoin and needed a place for a quick and casual lunch. We had lunch specials which we were excited to find were far out of the ordinary. The cooking was carefully made to order, not steam table stuff. My dish included a regional specialty, halibut, in a great and complex curry sauce. The restaurant is a family affair, and we met father and daughter, who are gracious and helpful. I would go out of my way for this restaurant.
Don R — Google review
The food is so comforting. It's a perfect blend of spices, not overwhelming. It was just right, and it feels so much like a home-cooked meal, which is rare. I absolutely enjoyed it. Will be back for more soon. Thank you 🙇

Portland Pie Company is a laid-back pub known for its creative pizzas, sandwiches, and salads, as well as a selection of craft beers. Customers have praised the warm and friendly atmosphere, with attentive and knowledgeable staff. The menu features specialty pizzas like the Moosehead with beer dough, along with sliders such as the Caprese Sliders that are described as amazing. The restaurant offers a variety of options suitable for different age groups and occasions.
Love Portland pie! Food is good I love the wings as well as the pizza. They are always busy when I go in, so it might be a few minutes to be seated. I to call ahead for a bigger party. The specials are different every time I go in as I love trying something new. They always have a game on to watch, good music playing.

This was my first time at this restaurant and I was very impressed! The service was great and the atmosphere was friendly and not too loud, which is very important when someone has hearing loss! But the food...omg, the food. Hands down, this was the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. I saved 1/2 for lunch a couple of days later and it was STILL delicious. Will definitely come back!

Located on Main st. Parking was not hard to find. Located on a very walkable street. The Food was fresh and fantastic. We tried the harbormaster pizza and the seasonal strawberry salad. Both were flavorful and fed two people. Service was prompt and friendly.

Incredibly wonderful food and service. Our server Asia was so accommodating as we were two adults and two young kids. We came on a Monday night so were able to take advantage of their free pizza for kids (up to two, plain or pepperoni). That's an amazing deal!!! It's a seven inch pie. I had a bite of it and it was delicious! For starters we had the spinach dip and it was yummy. For entrees we had the steak calzone and the Mac and cheese with burnt ends. The Mac and cheese comes with a salad and this isn't a tiny salad, it's a generous helping and it was very good! Everything was good! We also ordered a pizza to go which we ate the next day. LThe slices of pepperoni were huge and tasty. The chocolate cake was also ordered to go and we enjoyed it later that night. Very yummy! We would definitely come to this location again.

Vegan Pizza! Great crust! Other menu items are really great too - Tty the Owl's Head Sandwich! It's a bit loud, decor is a bit boring, and prices are a bit high. Otherwise great!

Lady on the phone was rude. I get having a bad day but translating that to your job is unfortunate. I called late but that doesn't excuse poor customer service. Ive always spoken to well mannered members of staff who were more than willing to accommodate me and make a late night sale. Apparently this member doesn't have the same work ethic. Love this place but when you're open till 9 you take orders till 9 and thats the way it is in the kitchen/ restaurant business. Anything else is laziness and you won't convince me or any other hard worker out there otherwise.

Chinese restaurant
Asian Garden is a delightful blend of Chinese, Japanese, and Thai cuisine. The restaurant offers limited seating options in the form of booths; however, they do not serve food directly to the table. Surprisingly, despite ordering for dine-in service, the food is placed in takeout containers and secured with staples. While this may be a minor inconvenience, it does not overshadow the scrumptiousness of their offerings.
Great food! Very tastey and what you look for in a Chinese restaurant. The seating was great but they do not serve you. They call you up.

Ohh no, what happened to you guys? We've enjoyed our experience and food in the past. Our order of General Taos chicken tonight was terrible. Chicken was dry and stringy. The sauce was a strange overly sweet flavor - it tasted like artificial sweetener. Hubby said that ordering was difficult and the person was grumpy at pickup. A miss on all counts.

Very good Chinese food, especially for the fair prices. Spicy food wasn't as spicy as I would have thought, coming from a white guy. The music was poor and made a clash with the decorations. I've mainly gone here to take out but only recently went inside with one of my friends. I suggest take out personally, good food, fast preparation

Chow mein was not what I expected, do not recommend. Appetizers were good. Not the friendliest place, no smile. Had to go outside and reopen the door to get their attention to get soy sauce. They let you eat your takeout there but no table service, at least when we went.

The staff is super UNFRIENDLY. The staff didn’t welcome us, didn’t thank us for choosing their establishment. Nothing. No conversation. Not even a smile. My party of 3 felt totally unwelcome. I will not be going back there especially when Brunswick has my other options for Chinese food.

Egg drop soup and Moo goo gai pan were good.

It's close, it's good, it's reasonably priced, what's not to like when you don't want to cook! There's a 5 star Thai restaurant around the corner, but it's very pricey. Save some money, and if casual dining is your "thing" . . . . There's usually no wait here, and the one server will show you to a table rather quickly. This restaurant does a good "carry out" business with the college kids up the street. This is Asian "comfort food". They cook the basics reasonably well. I've had better, but it's satisfying the urge for the night. The egg rolls & spring rolls are fine. I've tried several of my favorites (Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, etc.) and they were OK. *Side note: Could update their menu, and couple of their booths, have rip in seat. I'd give this a 3.5 star restaurant rating.

Chinese restaurant
I have been a loyal customer of Oriental Restaurant for nearly two decades and have never encountered any instances where the food was below par or unsatisfactory. The staff is always cheerful and engaging, creating a friendly atmosphere. The prices are incredibly reasonable, even lower than most Chinese restaurants. The menu boasts an extensive selection of dishes, with generous portions. One of the highlights of this family-owned establishment is that multiple generations of the family can often be found on-site, including their young children.
I’ve been going here for almost 20 years. I have never had a time where the food was subpar or not great. I love the staff as they always have a smile and like to chitchat. The prices are beyond reasonable in fact less than most places I go for Chinese. The menu is absolutely huge and the portions are very large also. This is a family owned place and one of my favorite things about it is at some points some of the family members are there including the younger children. Seems to be at least three generations that are there. I would highly recommend this place for takeout or dining. The food is always hot, fresh, and you receive more than you expect!

Worst food I’ve ever had. I literally got one tiny scoop of rice, the food is so greasy i at very little of it. They put dumpling sauce under the dumplings instead of putting it in a separate container. The grease you see here is after I dumped it out, so my food wasn’t getting saturated in it. I’ve been to many many Chinese restaurants and I’ve never gotten Such a small amount of rice with a combo plate. The chicken finger was dry and saturated in grease, as was the Rangoon. I will never return.

We just got done waiting an hour beyond when we were told our food would be ready — we ordered at 5:45, were told it would be ready at 6:16, and it is now 7:16. If I hadn’t paid for our food ahead of time, I would have walked out. The mediocre food was not worth waiting 1-1/2 hours for. We will never go back.

I have to admit they have the best Chinese food sence wok inn closed on outter forest Avenue in Portland! Large portions too, food is clean and taste. I was very impressed for the process I paid how much I got in my combination. The lady taking my order was very patient with me, I was confusing her and she didn't huff or puff once witch is rare these days. Very kind good customers service! This is my new favorite spot for sure!

The food is just awesome. I had the beef and scallops in garlic sauce and my girlfiend got the sesame chicken. Both were amazing and when we asked for spicy it was actually spicy unlike most restaurants in New England. The price was also pretty good since the entrees seemed big enough for two people.

Food was a little over done. Mostly a takeout place. Barely any staff. One busy lady. Mostly taking phone orders and handing takeout to people. Uncomfortable dining in. Pad thai had uncooked bean sprouts on top.

The food and portions were good. Best beef and broccoli I've ever had. The chicken fingers were delicious. The server wasn't very attentive and there was lipstick on my water cup. But the food and prices were good and a lot of people came in while we were eating to pick up food, so it is popular. This will be our new chinese food place.
