Waterfalls
Catarata Uvita, located in Uvita, is a popular natural attraction featuring a stunning waterfall that cascades into an inviting pool within a picturesque jungle setting. Visitors can reach the waterfall by walking for about 30 minutes or driving just 5 minutes from Uvita. The entrance fee is affordable and includes access to the butterfly garden. Additionally, amenities such as free parking, souvenirs, snacks, and clean bathrooms are available on-site.
Great place! Nice cool, refreshing water, we got there before it got too busy. The waterfall is much bigger in person than in the pictures you see online. We parked at the restaurant because we had children and wanted a nice easy walk. Highly recommend!
Nelson K — Google review
This was a cool place. You do have to pay to get in. Also your guides do come in with their customers so it can get a little crowded. But much of a hike from the street parking to the waterfall or pools.
Arthur J — Google review
Beautiful waterfall and swimming area. We were here in June and with the rain it was perfect. The pool was full and there was plenty of water to slide down the waterfall. It was very fun and exhilarating. There's also a platform to jump off into the water just downstream. That area is good for kids to swim and play in when the water is flowing heavy as there's less current and areas that are easy to stand in. Loved this spot.
John H — Google review
This is a beautiful space in nature. The risk of using the natural stone slide is disappointing. The pools below the fall are lovely and it was worth the entry fee.
Lisa C — Google review
Easy walking distance from downtown Uvita. Lovely falls with a jumping platform and waterfall slide. Lovely experience. Butterfly garden was closed but it should be open if you come a different time.
Elizabeth C — Google review
Very cool waterfall and pool experience ! For those with courage and the swimming ability take the 40 foot ladder up and ride the waterfall down! Exhilarating and heart pumping but a great story to tell! Make the effort to check out the butterfly sanctuary off lower parking and lot and be sure to look up to see the sloths ! Great day trip experience.
Kaulin M — Google review
Very nice deep waterfall. There are a ton of people here and the place gets crowded at peak hours. The hike is short and is a steep decline
Juan W — Google review
Must visit in Uvita, a waterfall that’s a natural water slide plus a deck to jump off into a refreshing natural pool, it’s like a big kids jungle gym. Arrived when it first opened, and had the place to ourselves for a solid 30 mins. Beautiful little spot. You can also go early, pay for the ticket, leave and then go back later in the afternoon.

Nestled in the heart of Uvita, Sibu Restaurant & Coffee Store is a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts and food lovers alike. This charming spot boasts an extensive coffee menu that includes everything from rich cappuccinos to refreshing iced coffees, making it the perfect pit stop during your adventures. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Sibu offers a diverse array of dishes that cater to all tastes—whether you're craving local Costa Rican flavors or international cuisine with healthy options available.
Food was phenomenal, so tasty with great flavor and fresh ingredients. All the breads are made fresh in house. Great service and vibey little spot. Highly recommend one of the best breakfast spots we have had in Costa Rica.
Nazar B — Google review
consistently a family and friend favorite! the coffee is great, so many choices so you can create your perfect drink. the eggs Benedict is one of my go tos, but just about everything on the menu is delicious. indoor and outdoor seating, they are always very kind to my dog when she comes with us.
Brett H — Google review
Lovely restaurant with outdoor seating right on the main drag. Cocktails are good. Are the Chicken Gallos which were delicious. They are served as an appetizer but they were enough for a meal for me. I returned several times but nothing on the menu was appealing to me. Good place to take a break, have a drink and jump off again.
Rachael W — Google review
This is Uvita’s best upscale dining location. The prices are higher than sodas but come with great food quality & service. Your money will go further at Sibu than comparably priced restaurants adjacent to the beach. We started with the jaguar fish ceviche. Beautiful presentation and phenomenal taste. I ordered the sesame crusted tuna filet and it was cooked perfectly. The filet was served on top of a bed of mashed potatoes and drizzled with a horseradish cream sauce. Dinner and appetizers were so delicious that my group decided we must also try dessert. We decided on the carrot cake and chocolate cakes. Both were great options. Moist and flavorful with a beautiful presentation.
Fletcher J — Google review
We stayed in Uvita two nights and visited this place three times since it was that good! Selena and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful. My daughter and husband are celiac (gluten-free) and this place had so many delicious options that were clearly labeled - including multiple desserts! Great food and cocktails. On the last night, we went back so that my daughter could have a birthday cake and they remembered when we showed up that it was her birthday and made her feel really special. Highly recommend Sibu!
Amber C — Google review
De Jaguar Ceviche was easily one of the best meals of our trip. However, why would you state on the menu explicitly that the shrimp burrito comes „without tomatoes“ (literally said that) and then put loads of them in it.
Raphael — Google review
Very wonderful avocado smoothie 🥤! Energetic smoothie is also delicious 😊 And the King and the Queen 👑 with sourdough bread, only the arugula was not as fresh as it should be. Maybe they can improve in freshness. I would say expensive but worthy. 🙌✨
Edna P — Google review
It’s a cute little place. It was our second time here (the first time was 3,5 years ago). This place is as amazing as we remember. Coffee here is great and definitely try their Sibu margarita Deluxe. It was unusual to see guacamole served in this way but it looked super cool. We will definitely stop but again.

Parada de autobus de Uvita Tracopa LTDA

Bus company
Parada de autobus de Uvita Tracopa LTDA offers multiple daily departures from San Jose, with its own terminal located there. Additionally, there are buses from Quepos to Uvita for those coming from Manuel Antonio. The buses arrive in Uvita at 6 am and take a 30-minute break for existing passengers before continuing the journey. Despite some reviews mentioning language barriers, the ticket seller was kind and accommodating.
Great place 👌🏻 Always ask for prices before buying. It may vary from 30-40 to 50% Regular casado price is around $5 to $8. / More fancy the place more expensive.
El S — Google review
The bus was supposed to leave at 8h43 but it arrived at 9h and when we were going to take our seats the driver told us to wait 20 minutes more before to get in the bus and maybe start.. We were basically 50 minutes behind schedule at the departure of the bus.. But no one seems to be worried about it. The driver was literally hanging out at the desk with friends of him. It's the only bus company around here so they just don't give a shit and don't show any respect to their clients. The system is completely flawed. But I just think it's important to know it if your timing is short to get a flight for example.
Zéré Z — Google review
Nice large bus stop. Clean restrooms and a service desk to help with routes. Also, hot food line in addition to the convenience store.
Rachael W — Google review
Is the shop where you buy the ticket, and there are bus to SJO airport, price is 7000.
Wendy — Google review
Good bus station. Plenty of things to buy as well as restrooms which are needed on Tracopa buses as they have no restroom. Bus was cool to cold with the A/C.
Rick W — Google review
The bus station is easily identified. A good spot to get a bite to eat while waiting for the bus as well. Here are the most recent times for buses to San Jose. The times are an estimate and there is no guarantee when the bus will leave or arrive. If you are bussing the day of and have not purchased tickets, you will pay the driver. However, you can buy tickets ahead of time for the next day etc,. The buses pull up and are mostly labeled where they are going. Be prepared to practice your Spanish at this bus station as we found a strong language barrier
Caisa S — Google review
There was a lovely lady at the kiosk who was nice and helpful, and the driver of one of the buses was nice, everyone else at this company needs to learn some basic manners and respect
Joshua D — Google review
We caught the 6am bus that arrived at Uvita direct to San José. There is actually two buses that arrive at Uvita going to SJ at 6am. One costs around CRC9k and the one that all backpackers got on cost CRC7k. We were told there was not much difference in time but observed the more expensive bus arrived and departed 10min earlier. The buses arrive in Uvita at 6 and break for 30min for the existing passengers. There is a further 10min break on the route. Seats were comfy and there was air con! We got to San José in just under 4hrs. Enough time to catch the 12pm bus to Puerto Viejo from different bus terminal.

Supermercado BM in Uvita is a large supermarket conveniently located on Route 34, making it easily accessible for both locals and tourists. The store offers a good selection of produce, fresh baked goods, wine, and spirits. Visitors will find familiar products like block cheese and bagged salads alongside Costa Rican staples. The friendly staff speaks English and the store is known for its cleanliness.
Great selection of fresh fruits, vegetables and meat as well as quick snacks and drinks!
Craig C — Google review
Fairly large grocery store with a pretty wide selection of products (dairy, meat, baked goods, frozen, canned etc). The prices are in line with the other large chains - especially if you look for sale items. The fresh fruit/veg was well stocked although maybe not as fresh/ripe as some of the roadside stands. I haven’t found it to be too busy either so you can get in and out pretty quickly. Staff were generally pleasant and helpful too. Easy to get to on the main highway and has plenty of parking.
Dwight H — Google review
This supermarket is awesome. It has everything you could possibly need while visiting Uvita. From fresh fruits and vegetables to meats, dairy, baked goods, snacks, drinks, and even beach gear and household items, they truly have it all. We were so impressed by how well-stocked and organized everything was. The store is super clean and easy to navigate, and the selection is surprisingly big for the area. We found both local products and familiar international brands, which was really nice. Our favorite thing was the pops ice cream! You have to check it out The staff was friendly and helpful, and checkout was quick. The prices were fair, especially for the quality and convenience. Whether you’re here for a few days or a long stay, this is the best place to shop. We came back multiple times during our trip and always found exactly what we were looking for. Highly recommend it for anyone staying nearby.
Ava L — Google review
This is always a little cool store. All the BM stores are nice. This just happens to be the closest one to my friend's house so we always stop here to do it shopping
Arthur J — Google review
It's a supermarket. Whole Foods prices but much less of a selection. I'd only recommend going here for the produce and meat (ie. anything fresh) otherwise Maxi Pali is a better bet. Note that English descriptions of the isles are on the back side, so just go to the back of the store and turn around if you're not comfortable with Spanish.
Stephen J — Google review
We get most of our groceries here. Decent selection and good produce. Plus, they have shelf stable soy milk that is just soy and water (no other additives) which I can't find anywhere else.
Kelly B — Google review
I shop at this grocery store 2-3 times per week. Great selection of products from Costa Rica, North America and Europe. Covered parking is great during rainy season or to keep your car cool during “dry season”. I was thrilled to find Jamón Ibérico and Maple Syrup from Quebec. The store has a robust wine section for wine enthusiasts. Prices are higher than Maxi Palí but worth it.
Fletcher J — Google review
Nice, clean, well-lit supermercado! Very familiar layout for us gringos. Prices are higher than I’d expect, but not as high as in the US.

Nestled along the main highway in Uvita, Marino Ballena Restaurant has been a beloved dining spot since its establishment in 2002. This spacious roadside eatery specializes in delectable seafood and premium cuts of meat, making it a go-to for both locals and visitors alike. The menu offers an authentic taste of Costa Rica with traditional dishes like Gallo Pinto and casados, which feature rice, beans, plantains, salad, and your choice of protein.
We had a great experience at Marino Ballena in Uvita We ordered the nachos a wrap and the fajitas and everything came out fresh and full of flavor The portions were generous and the presentation was really nice The standout was definitely the piña colada super creamy and delicious one of the best we’ve had on our trip The setting was casual and comfortable and the service was kind and attentive Would definitely come back next time we’re in town
Ava L — Google review
Had the ribs they were dry and salty, not smothered in sauce as the menu describes them. After I scraped all of the fat away there wasn't much meat left. Not that there was much there to begin with, it was three short ribs. It is not often that I will leave a restaurant still hungry, proportions of the meat and the salad were very poor, there was no shortage of plain white rice though. The service was not any better. The server was very distracted and seemed like she had other things to do than serve customers. Not a good value for the money. I will not eat here again.
Mike — Google review
Overall, a great spot to stop by for a quick bite! The food was good—especially the mahi mahi, which was cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes could’ve used a bit more flavor, and the nachos were overly salty due to the meat, but everything else was enjoyable. The drinks were great, and our server was absolutely wonderful. Would definitely come back for the friendly service and relaxed atmosphere!
Laura R — Google review
Good spot for Typico food with a sports bar feel. We enjoyed watching geckos on the TV showing extreme sports! Staff was polite and friendly. It wasn't very busy at all when we went, but it did seem to take a bit for service, and we had to chase down the bill at the end. We just decided to chalk it up to a slower pace of life than we have where I'm from. Pura Vida!
Julie S — Google review
Delay in receiving the food. It took more than one hour to serve a pasta and the appetizer took 45 min
Daniela Z — Google review
We own a home nearby so we are always on the lookout for yummy restaurants. We LOVE Marino Ballena. It’s a huge plus that they speak English- because unfortunately our Spanish isn’t coming along quickly enough. The chicken rice is my favorite dish- comes with the most delicious side salad and fries. Tons of flavor and veggies. My husband loves the mixed ceviche and has liked everything he’s tried. Located right next to BM which is a great place for groceries.
Britney M — Google review
Delicious food at a good price point. We drove by this place and it looked like just the right casual spot for dinner. The food was delicious, but order everything at once because service was EXTREMELY slow. We went around 7:30 and it was pretty empty, still waited until almost 830 to eat lol. The staff was friendly though, they just didn't seem to have enough folks cooking at the time we went.
BroomStickNinja J — Google review
Terrible service. Mediocre food. We spent the day at some of the water falls, finished up hungry around 2:30. Saw this place on the map and decided to try it because it had fairly good reviews. When we arrived the place was almost empty, only one other table was seated. After we got drinks multiple other tables showed…… crickets from our waiter other than to say he would be right back to take our order, but to no avail. LITERALLY ALL other tables had their orders taken before us and ALL other tables received food before us. After an hour and a half of waiting, we finally got our food which was average. This place is the only negative on our trip to CR.

The Baker Bean is a convenient stop along the highway, offering a variety of food options. While some visitors experienced longer wait times for their orders, others found the service to be efficient and accommodating. The menu features Italian and Argentinian specialties such as pizzas, empanadas, and papaya juice. Customers praised the refreshing natural flavors of the juice and the quality of ingredients used in their meals. Additionally, the establishment is known for its vegetarian-friendly offerings and excellent Wi-Fi connection.
Great, Place by super kind, fluent english speaking owner. We were looking for vegitarian food in town and this place welcomed us. The juice was super refreshing, with no added sugar, but still super sweet. It must have been really good ingredients. The pizza was superb! Not very saucy but it was surprisingly tasty. Light dough, heavy toppings. 😋🤤😍 Overall, I'd recommend this place highly to anyone!

Nice place on the highway for a stop and break. Now, about the wait... for three pizzas two empanadas we waited a lot and there was nobody here... so better if u have no time, grab something ready. A tourist leaving the place told me not to take the lasagna haha. I got the pizzas and some had good crudt in some places. Argentinian empanadas are dried and smaller than expected served with nothing else than an empty plate. Nice papaya juice and good service.

Located in central Uvita, The Dome Restaurant is a popular stop offering a variety of breakfast and lunch options. Visitors can savor the delicious flavors of dishes like Gallo Pinto con Carne, prepared to perfection with tender meat and well-seasoned rice and beans. The chef, highly praised for her culinary skills, ensures that customers enjoy their meals.
One of my favorite places in the Costa Ballena to have breakfast. A very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere with delicious food and espresso based coffees. Their fresh juices, smoothings, homemade iced teas and lemonades are all fabulous. I usually have their eggs benedict because it is sooooo good but everything here is great. Wraps, burgers, quesadillas... this is a perfect place to come for a relaxed breakfast or lunch/dinner after the beach. Amazing location and just the best service. You won't be disappointed in the price or quality here.

This was my favourite restaurant in Uvita. It’s the only place I ate at twice in the 10 days I was there. The breakfast is incredible. The eggs Benedict was perfectly poached and the sauce was delicious. The Tico breakfast with beef was also really tasty. Don’t forget to add a smoothie to your meal! The smoothie was thicker than the other shops I visited. The service is very friendly and you get great value for your money.

This place has some of the freshest food and all of Uvita. The smoothie is the perfect way to start your breakfast and the eggs, beans, plantain and beef for breakfast. Perfect balance of carbs proteins, very flavorful tasty if I can come back here for breakfast every day that would be the best

Good place to have a Western Style breakfast or lunch, at a fairly reasonable price. Lots of selection of traditional foods as well. I love the banana & strawberry smoothie, and their coffee is freshly made from whole beans, with hot milk if you want. Surprising flavourful and quality of food cooked up by their Tica Chef. Had their version of the Egg McMuffin and bacon with avocado, not your Dads McMuffin, big and delicious.

The food was good, we ordered breakfast to go one morning. The fresh watermelon juice was absolutely delicious and the pancakes with fruit jam were also very good!!Word of caution though…some of the flooring at this establishment is not sturdy. We sat on the high stools waiting for our order and when I stepped down my foot went straight through the floor! Not safe at all and needs to be addressed ASAP! The lady working there was very nice about the situation and wanted to ensure I was not hurt. If it wasn’t for the floor incident, my experience here would still be only average. Maybe next time I’ll try the lunch or dinner options.

A secret gem. Open-air seating + indoor seating options (with AC) - neither are visible from the road, so don't judge a book by it's cover. We finally tried this place out about 6 months ago (for breakfast) and we've been back several times since. Their menu offers a great variety for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options and a great selection of smoothies. Beyond the food, the service is really great! If you're in the Uvita area, this place is worth a visit.

We have enjoyed breakfasts and lunches here regularly. Anna is always friendly and helpful. The American breakfast is very well done! If you're looking for a late-night dining experience in Costa Rica, Restaurante Bar Los Troncos is a hidden gem that exceeded all expectations. I recently booked a table for a group of 12, primarily out of convenience, but what we found was an absolute delight! The cocktails were refreshing and crafted with fresh fruits, while the food was not only delicious but also served in generous portions.
Our waiter Franco Was amazing!! The food was very tasty, and our service was perfect. Franco made the best margaritas and even taught us how to make a garnish. I definitely recommend :)!! 10/10

The food was really good, the servers were nice, but it was a little expensive in my opinion, we went at night but sat where the music wasn’t too loud so we enjoyed the experience a little bit more

Food and drinks were excellent, especially the whole fried snapper and amazing house made hot sauces. Franco provided amazing service and made us feel so at home!

One of the best Pargo entero ever. If you come to Costa Rican and don’t have enjoy the whole fried fish, a national plate, you’re doing it wrong.

This restaurant was recommended to us for seafood and boy were we disappointed. This place had the worst seafood we tried all week, mostly frozen and commercially produced. We felt like a burden to the staff and it was just an overall bad experience. I couldn't believe that the seafood was so bad given the proximity to the abundant fresh seafood available in the area. Not worth the $$$ we spent.

Tagua Cafe Vivo is a small coffee shop in Uvita with excellent coffee and friendly service. The cafe also sells delicious cakes and savories. It's a great place to relax, meet friends, and sample some of the best coffee in Costa Rica.
Cinnamon roll here is no joke. It is pretty and tasty! Served warm topped with gooseberries, the cinnamon roll deserves the unique praise. The latte is beautifully made as well. Flavor-wise, I would prefer it to be more bitter than milky/watery taste. Still, it is one of the best cups in Costa Rica I had so far. The staffs are friendly and the place is beautiful. It is cool and comfortable even without A/C. Highly recommend if you want to sit back and relax with delicious treats and coffee.

Café VIVO is hands down one of the best spots in town. Their coffee is exceptional! Rich, smooth, and clearly made with love. But what really sets them apart is the food. The Gallo Pinto is the best I’ve had anywhere, and their Casado is always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The outdoor patio sits right by the creek, offering an incredible atmosphere to relax and take in the sounds of nature while you eat. Whether you’re just stopping in for a coffee or sitting down for a full meal, you can feel the love they put into everything they serve. A true gem in the heart of town—highly recommend!

We loved this place so much! The atmosphere is so relaxing. The food was delicious & the coffee was incredible! I recommend the orange cold brew & my husband loved the pour over Vandola. We also had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast there our last morning and it was seriously some of our favorite Gallo Pinto of the trip!

I loved the atmosphere and cappuccino was delicious, especially in such a beautiful cup! The brownie was a little disappointing, the girl who took the order recommended it as their best desert but it was dry inside and for that price it was much smaller piece than expected.

Nice place, the best cappuccino coffee with almond milk homemade that I have tested. The gallo pinto very delicious, and great service.

Cute cafe with great food and awesome coffee selections. Our favorite was the French toast and cold brew! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

LOVED cafe Vivo! Came here heaps of times. Excellent coffee, incredibly friendly staff, fast wifi. Cannot recommend more. Perfect spot for a light bite, a caffeine recharge, or to sit on your laptop and catch up on work. They have shaded seating with fans and a super cute Creekside backyard area.

I was wondering why it was considered as "temporary closed" on Google Maps but had the latest review just a week ago. Now, that I've walked there, I know 😭😭😭 such a pity! But wish you guys a great new season!

Day 2

East side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the east side side of town. Start the day off with Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Pacifico Supermarket. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Marino Ballena National Park is a protected marine area located in Uvita, known for its stunning long beach and tropical vegetation. During low tide, a unique natural phenomenon occurs where two beaches meet to form a 600-meter wide sand passage resembling a whale tail. Visitors can walk along this formation during low tide. The park offers jungly trails for wildlife spotting, including monkeys, birds, and iguanas. Entrance to the park is affordable at 6 USD per person.
The Whale’s Tail was absolutely amazing. It’s one of the most unique and beautiful beaches we’ve ever visited. When the tide is low, you can walk right out onto the sandbar and see the full shape of the tail, which is such a cool experience. The views are incredible and the water is so warm and clear. The beach itself was super clean, quiet, and felt very safe. There were families, couples, and solo travelers all enjoying the area in such a peaceful way. We loved how natural and untouched it felt, with beautiful palm trees and the sound of the waves in the background. It’s a perfect spot to swim, walk, relax, or just enjoy the scenery. If you’re anywhere near Uvita, this is an absolute must-see. We would definitely come back again.
Ava L — Google review
Beautiful beaches and ocean views. Water was VERY warm, like a hot tub in places. If walking out to the tail when it's not quite completely dry, watch for rocks and or follow others navigating the path. Wear water shoes in this case.
Rachael W — Google review
Great park, good hike, dramatic nature. Much friendlier than Manuel Antonio, and cheaper too. Quite laid back. The hike at low tide is fun, but the highlight for us was the gorgeous wild forest on the shore.
Wilfred B — Google review
This beach is so beautiful! Try to go at least once at low tide to walk out to the rocky "whale tale" for a unique walking experience - the tide was still slightly high when we were there some small waves come from both sides of you as you walk in the shallows. It's worth going to see.
Izzy S — Google review
Time your visit for low tide. (And don’t listen to Google about low tide— it led me completely astray.) Google said low tide would be 12:36 so we arrived at 11:30, only to find out low tide was actually at 4pm. There’s hardly anywhere to go at high tide but we managed to get to the back where the whale tail would later be uncovered at low tide. We managed to kill a few hours until the ocean was shallow enough to walk out to the island. The island was just sand and rocks but it was a cool experience. I highly recommend water shoes for the whale tail walk as the rocks at the island are very painful on bare feet. This is not a spectacular national park with versatility or lots to do but it is a lovely untouched beach that is worth a visit. Parking was $6 and park entry was $7/pp.
Hilary H — Google review
Family of three visiting on a Tuesday. It wasn’t too crowded. The beach is nice. I get that they only charge $6 per person but the restrooms were disgusting and there is not a single trash an in the whole park. Come on!!!
Emiliano B — Google review
Beautiful beach and park with clean waters. We attempted walking the whales tail at low tide, but it was too difficult with the waves crashing over the sand bar. The closer one got to the end of tail, the rockier the ground was. The shells are very prevalent at low tide. Very clean beach and warm waters.

Parque Nacional Marino Ballena is stunning! The beach and the “whale tail” at low tide are unforgettable, and the boat tour to see the whales is an absolute must — a magical experience. Highly recommend!

Scenic spot
Playa Uvita, located in Ballena National Park, is a stunning beach known for its wide shoreline and surreal experience during low tide when visitors can walk up to the whale tail. The park advises on tide status to avoid surprises. It's a great spot for sunset views and offers opportunities for surfing lessons and diving excursions. The beach also features clean facilities including dressing rooms, showers, and bathrooms at all entrances.
Absolutely worth visiting this unique place. Especially during low tide. Make sure you have good sandals or water shoes to climb over rocks that forms this “tail”. And grab some stick from the entrance to help with balancing. During low tide you can see a lot of life in the ponds that are left in the crystal clear water. It’s like snorkeling, but with walking around :) Also, have a lot protection from the sun. There is absolutely no shade.
Leo — Google review
Playa Uvita is a stunning and peaceful beach, especially in the morning when the crowds are minimal, and the tide is perfect for a stroll along the famous Whale’s Tail sandbar. The calm waters and golden sand make it an ideal spot for a relaxing start to the day, whether you're swimming, walking, or just taking in the breathtaking coastal views. The beach is part of Marino Ballena National Park, so there’s a small entrance fee, but it's well worth it for the clean, well-preserved environment. Wildlife sightings, like scarlet macaws and crabs scuttling along the shore, add to the natural beauty. For a quiet and scenic beach experience, especially in the morning, Playa Uvita is a must-visit. It's a perfect place to connect with nature and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
Lucas K — Google review
Beautiful beach, a long stretch of sand and it connects to whale tail, about a 7-10 minute walk along the sand. Depending on the time of year you can walk straight through. Right now due to the rains, there is a small river, you may not want to cross during high tide.
Alicia S — Google review
what a great beach. There is soft brown sand and plenty of palms for shade. we saw both sea turtles and dolphins from the beach. I highly recommend the "whale tail" beach. the tail is only visible at low tide.
Edward T — Google review
Unique and wonderful experience 😎 One of the most beautiful and stunning places I have ever been to, the whole Pacific Coast is a beautiful Beach wrapping up a wonderful mountain that is the habitat of a broad and extended variety of wildlife that is only in Costa Rica.
Jose G — Google review
The tale's whale is a really nice beach. It is part of a national park and even when you have to pay a ticket in the entry, that means as well there is more security, showers, restrooms and information. Just outside of the beach there are different parking lots, restaurants and people who can take you to different tour rides
David Z — Google review
Great uncrowded beach just south of quepos. Definitely a nice change off pace. The waves are calm, there may be crocodiles and there is a lovely walk to a cool geologic feature in the national Park. 10/10 would go back.

Gorgeous beach with a beautiful sunset! We came late in the day so I’m not sure how crowded it would normally be. We left after the gates closed which made it a little bit harder to get out but a quick easy climb through the gate added to the adventures.

Middle Eastern restaurant
If you're in search of Mediterranean flavors in Uvita, look no further than Falafel Uvita. Situated just a short 4-minute stroll from Uvita beach by the Marino Ballena National Park, this establishment is ideal for a quick bite or light lunch. Their menu may be limited, but it showcases an array of Middle Eastern delicacies such as shawarma, schnitzel, falafel, sabich, and kebab.
Outstanding. Worth a detour just to eat here. I spent the summer in Jerusalem in 1992 and the eggplant dish was giving me flashbacks. They have a range of menu options, the service is friendly, and they speak English. There’s a substantial construction site just across the street—when that’s finished, it may block the odors from the pasture over there. If a faint bit persistent manure smell would put you off your food, there is some seating inside the restaurant but tucked into a corner away from that open entranceway.

Best food in Uvita! Family-owned restaurant with fresh ingredients, great service and lovely atmosphere. We went twice during our stay in Uvita and looking forward to being back ☺️

Great food and friendly staff. The staff had extra smoothie after making some for customers. He brought over the extra smoothie for my daughter to try. Ingredients were fresh with large portions.
Fletcher J — Google review
We stopped here for lunch after spending the morning in the national park. It’s a busy little restaurant with a small staff, but we were incredibly impressed. There are several vegetarian options on the menu. We ordered a falafel plate, a kebab plate, and Imperial beers. Everything was fantastic: excellent hummus, moist falafel, exceptionally-good kebab, ice cold beer. Service was a bit slow at times, but it was friendly and we didn’t wait long for our food. The only downside is out of their control: The restaurant is across the road from a chicken farm, and sometimes the wind shifts, bringing in the smell. All things considered, we would go back again. Credit cards accepted.

The food is delicious, especially the hummus and the falafel! Chill atmosphere and the service was really good too. A bit overpriced though but worth it.

What a discovery! A delightful and delicious change from rice/beans/chicken and plantain. So much so that I dine lunch and dinner in one day. Falafel in Pita bread at lunch is moorish but fresh and great with the tahini. At dinner the plate of shuwarma with finely sliced salad, a big slash of tahini over half the plate and shredded chicken pieces is again fantastic. What really makes the dish though is a small side of hot dressing some ingredients being garlic, pimento, parsley and other spices all blended together. Highly recommended.

Uvita Beach, located within Marino Ballena National Park, is a 2-mile stretch of pristine white sand that attracts both local and international tourists. The area has seen significant growth in tourism due to its natural beauty and popular whale-watching tours. Visitors can witness whales and their calves from July through November and January through April. While lodging options do not offer beachfront access due to conservation efforts, there are plenty of activities to enjoy.
Paid entry 1000 colones for locals and $6 for foreigners, as the beach is part of a national park. Well worth it as the beach is beautiful and clean, lots of wildlife and scenery to admire, as well as the whale tail coast line which you can walk on and is visible at low tides.

Don't get caught in the money trap.. Avoid paying for entering as there are plenty of entrances not controlled by anyone. It's such a bad thing to pay for public space..
G K — Google review
We'd rented an Airbnb just up the mountain with beautiful views of the beach, so we had to walk out to see it for ourselves. At midday in February it was incredibly hot and we soon realized we should've brought more sunscreen to reapply as ours sweated off! Beautiful dark sand beach that gets rockier as you get out to the end. A few days later we got to return and snorkel a bit, which was fun. Worth the walk!
Julie S — Google review
The reason to go is to walk the whale tail and for that reason it’s worth it. It definitely has its own beauty, and watching the tide come in and meet in the middle of the same bar making up the tail part of the beach is pretty cool. Otherwise it’s not the prettiest beach around and the swimming really isn’t great.
LDW — Google review
Beautiful beach! yes, you need to pay entrance, but it is worth it! you find a beautiful clean and also safe beach. no restaurants, no people selling stuff, very natural. one of the most stunning beaches in costa rica! the rangers are super nice and take good care. I see the entrance as a contribution to preserve this paradise! especially if you see all the ongoing constructions on the southern pacific coast.
Verena H — Google review
This is a gorgeous beach. Since it’s a nature preserve, it’s about $6 per person for the whole day (you get a stamped ticket that you can keep to come and go). There are stingrays (we saw/felt a couple!) so make sure to be aware. There are monkeys in the trees of the entrance, lots of fish, and a ton of beautiful birds, sea snails, and other wildlife making noise. Lots of surfing around here, and the waves are great for learning. The sun gets HOT midday, so wear sunscreen or a rashguard!

Nestled in the heart of Costa Rica, Restaurante y Pizzería La Fogata is a delightful family-friendly eatery that promises an unforgettable dining experience. With its rustic decor and welcoming atmosphere, this charming spot specializes in wood-fired pizzas crafted from fresh mozzarella cheese and high-quality toppings like prosciutto and mushrooms. The menu extends beyond pizza to include a variety of Italian dishes, succulent roast chicken, and delectable seafood options.
This is without a doubt the best pizza I've ever had. They use a brick oven. I don't know the blend of cheese they use, but it is amazing

The staff is very friendly and the place is decorated nicely. The food was prepared very quickly and it was all very fresh. The pizza was delicious and comes with a fresh garlic and chili oil that you can add to it as well as some extra cheese. The grilled chicken was on point and the beans super nice. The rice is a buttery rice which isn't to everyone's taste but the veggies are super good too. I highly recommend coming here - also, the prize for the food is really fair.
Sophia K — Google review
Pizza and lasagna was great once it's out. But the pizza is waayyyyyyy over priced for a small Tico town. Your looking at $35 for 8 slices. I'm living in Atenas and it's $14 for 16 slices of the same quality. Service was horrible, never brought us napkins or plates, no refills, didn't ask how we were doing. Just order, serve, and disappear. Also they use a funky yellow bulb that makes you dizzy after like 10mins. Your face looks horrible. Super small margarita's, 6 huge pieces of ice and maybe 2 ounces of the actual drink. Pics attached. Dirty small bathrooms.

✨ La Fogata Restaurant – Uvita de Osa ✨ La Fogata is more than just a restaurant – it’s a tradition in Uvita. As the very first pizzeria in the area, this family-owned gem has been serving locals and visitors for years, creating memories around the table with authentic flavors and warm hospitality. Their new pizza style is absolutely amazing – fresh ingredients, perfect crust, and a taste that combines tradition with a modern touch. Every bite reminds you why supporting local businesses matters: because behind every dish, there’s a family, a story, and a passion for serving the community. La Fogata is truly an iconic place in Uvita. If you want to enjoy great food while supporting the heart of the community, this is the spot you can’t miss. 🍕❤️

Ok the food is good to great from a world perspective. From a Uvita perspective you’d be hard pressed to find better executed food. This was the best place we found in Uvita, Ojochal, Dominical área. A gem! We went here nearly every morning for breakfast and coffee and at least 3-4 times more during our 8 night stay in Uvita. The staff here are excellent. Alejandra was a joy for us so sweet and kind and helpful in so many ways. You can tell she is a kind spirit. But what really makes this place stand out is Franco. Franco we met on our first visit and he is the reason we returned each other time. He didn’t just help us with the menu and the food and the service, it goes beyond that. Franco is such a beautiful and kind spirit. He is a light worker, spreading joy and love in the world. Also In my mind he was the perfect representative for CR. He loves his country and he was so proud to tell us about all the things we should do in the area, or talk to us about the wildlife and parks or the history of CR. He was an invaluable guide for us every time we dined. He was free to share some of his life stories and journeys with us too. I can’t say enough about Franco. He was one of the people on our journey that really made the difference for us. Made it a memorable experience. If I was a resident in Uvita this spot would be my daily stop and I’d check in with Franco every time.

Pacifico Supermarket

Supermarket
Pacifico Supermarket is a convenient spot for various needs in Uvita. It's a great place to find taxis for day trips or your next destination, with consistent pricing and minimal negotiation required. While it's smaller than the full-sized BM supermarket, it offers quick grocery shopping for essential items. The store has a good selection of local products and friendly staff. However, some visitors have noted that there are often people lingering around the parking lot and entrance, which can be uncomfortable.
Like most of the supermarket, you can find most of stuff. I also buy the fresh meat of chicken and pork here. But the parking space is limited. You may wait the parking lot for few minutes during the busy period.
Shon H — Google review
Another excellent supermarket but not as big as the one in Uvita across from the bust station.
David — Google review
The marinated chicken is incredible. Great prices on rum and beer and the produce is extremely fresh. All things considered this is a fantastic market!
Christian O — Google review
This is a smaller version of a full-sized BM supermarket, however, it is a great grocery store to jump in and jump out and get what you need. If you are looking for a specific size or a specific brand you may want to try the supermarket BM. However, when I’m in a hurry and just need a food-staple this is a good place to go. The one major down side is that there are always people lingering around the parking lot and entrance. I feel BM could do something about that but as of yet, they’ve refused. That’s the only reason I’m not giving 5 stars. Please take care of that Pacifico Supermarket.
Nick V — Google review
This location is owned by the owners of the BM up the road. This is just really the illusion of choice but a good selection of local products. Almost all that you could possibly want from a grocery store. The staff here are super friendly. The location is super simple and basic, but you'll find everything you need at this location.

I will NEVER shop here again! I am a tourist visiting and I came here to pick up a few things. My total came to 3600 colones and I handed over a 20,000 bill. The lady put it in the register as 5,000 so I was given a lot less change. The manager said he will check the CCTV which he did with me watching. It was obvious that I had handed over 20,000 - not 5,000 but he still refused to give me my change back. Unfortunately if you’re an English speaking tourist, you can be scammed and ripped off really easily
Anita M — Google review
Shoppers beware. I got ogled while walking into the store. Lots of men standing around during business hours which should have been my first hint. Inside the market was clean and staff was friendly but once I walked to my car I realized my locked car had been opened and personal belongings were stolen. When the cops went to ask questions they advised that their security cameras some work (and neither do the one by the bank next door - how convenient). Seems like this market might have some sort of operation going on. Please be careful. Carry your passports and any other important paperwork and money with you. Whenever possible have someone wait in the car.

When visiting Costa Rica I heard a lot of buzz about this place so decided to check it out. Amazing drinks very picture worthy. They’re known for their pizzas and the pizza was actually amazing! We ordered the guacamole, two pizzas, and the dessert tray—all of which were very good. The service was excellent. Our server, Josue, was friendly, attentive, and spoke English. He clearly explained the specials and offered great drink recommendations. The restaurant is tucked inside a hotel with a charming little pool. We visited at night, and the ambiance was beautiful, with red lighting and candlesticks adding to the atmosphere. Free parking is available just a block away.

Sebas is hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Everything we ate from the pizzas, wings, prawns, short ribs mushrooms were all absolutely out of this world — all made with fresh, farm-to-table ingredients that you can truly taste in every bite. The service is second to none. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like family — warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. Sebas, the owner, is a force of nature. His passion for what he does shines through in every detail, and it’s clear he’s raising the bar with everything he touches.

Went to Seba’s last June on a trip to Uvita. Was so pleased to be around for the grand opening of their new location on the other end of town. Excellent service from the whole staff from start to finish, especially our server Josué. Delicious cocktails and even better food served in a relaxed but upscale space. The Lobster tail crudo verde, fire roasted mushrooms, tortellini con brudo, trofie and octopus criolla were all top notch. I wish we had room for dessert but will happily return.

Let me tell you about this amazing eating ritual at Sebas!!! Thanks to JOSUE, who candidly helped us with wine recommendations, straight forward status about waiting times and better food options, always quick and with a smile on their face, was able to bring us the amazing dishes, meat, pizza, guacamole and a+ desert "flan de coco" next level type of serious damage delicious flavors in contrast!! Simply the best. Prices are in the higher range, yet for a once in a while exquisite tasting, is totally worth it.

We came here a few times while in Uvita and it blew us away every time — best grass fed steak I’ve had in Costa Rica. Amazing pizza. Amazing chicken. Fresh, high quality, and made with love food. We LOVED the red light vibe and the downtempo music it makes it such a special place. Service was amazing too. No seed oils is an absolute MUST for restaurants now a days, so it was so received and appreciated. One of my favorite restaurants in the world!! 🙏🏼❤️

Voted #1 pizza in Costa Rica, #46 in all of Latin America: the Pesto Prosciutto from Seba’s 🍕🇨🇷 Came here after our hotel manager recommended it, and we loved it! We came straight after our flight and drive from San Jose, still in our sweatpants to find that it’s actually a pretty nice casual dinner date night kinda spot 🫠 We didn’t have reservations but they had seating at the bar. I liked my watermelon smoothie (asked for no syrup, not needed), but the mango smoothie was a bit sour. The food leans a little sour, as I think many central / South American dishes do. I’m a bit biased cuz I almost never use lemons or limes in my food, but the arugula salad, grilled octopus, and pesto prosciutto pizzas were a little too sour for me. But! Still loved the pizza. Great flavors and texture of the bread! All the ingredients tasted fresh. We wanted to get fish but their fresh catch was a minimum 2kg (they only serve the fresh stuff they get daily!)

What an amazing experience! We celebrated our anniversary here with the ceviche, rib eye, and seafood rice. Soooooo good, all of it! The best ceviche ever, the rib eye cooked to perfection, the seafood rice hit such a unique and satisfying flavor profile. They were very sizable portions and our tummies were very happy. We met Chef Sebastian and he was so wonderful and hospitable. Hands down, one of the top restaurants we’ve ever eaten at and we can’t wait to return again soon! Thank you so much! ❤️

The Bakery CR in Uvita is a popular spot for remote work with its spacious interior, air-conditioning, and reliable WiFi. It offers a variety of delectable treats and fancy brewed beverages, making it convenient to stay until your work is done. The bakery also caters to vegan preferences with options like VEGAN cinnamon rolls and flavored syrup lattes. Customers appreciate the friendly staff, cleanliness, and delicious offerings such as croissants that are not overly sweet.
Gorgeous coffee shop/cafe!!! I love everything about this place. There was a big selection and the coffee was perfect. Plenty of seating inside, an upper balcony level that was cool and the porch/patio seating area was clean comfortable. Easy to find/park just off the main road. The chocolate croissant I got was so so good!

Super cute cafe! The staff was very friendly and helpful about some questions we had about a local tour. The ham, egg and cheese croissants are amazing and the breakfast burrito was 🔥. Great local stop!

Nice place to walk into. Pleasant workers bright and cheerful decor and yummy looking cakes and pastries which we came for. Overall we thought the prices were very high and if you pay in usd the price was even higher. Pay with colones or credit card. Cappuchino I had was excellent as was my rasberry cheesecake. Rest of my family was not as happy so a bit hit or miss. Their cakes were dry or doughy and my sweet tooth daughter didnt finish her chocobop. I dont like that we had 8 items and they placed on same counter area where we paid and now others were paying. Workers did not offer to carry or help carry our items to our table so I had to ask for a trey and help carrying to our table. So I carried and the nice young man I asked carried to the table. Service was soso and some items were good and others were not and quite pricey. 3/5 stars.

Nice concept for Uvita , air conditioned ect. Things I liked: variety of breads and pastries , menu had lots of options. Nice presentation and good portion. Relatively good priced for the area. Things I didn’t like: they give you a beeper to pick up your food however they give you the food in the same place people are ordering and paying. It’s terrible, very uncomfortable for the person picking up the food and the people in line having to move for you. A dedicated place to pick up food would be good. Or take the food to the table even better. For the price , minimum should take the food to the table and order at the register is fine. The barista has a bad attitude and she isn’t that good and making coffee. Coffee was weak. Iced Latte was warm and also weak. Overall the experience was Good but definitely room for improvement. Wish you guys all then best.

Good coffee, but the straws are huge which make it difficult to drink. The service was ok. They offer a lot of different drinks with vegan milk options. We got an iced latte and Nutella cafe.

Stopped for afternoon tea and pastries. Plenty of parking and indoor and outdoor seating and great quality of pastries/cakes. It's a little bit more expensive than your average bakery but very tasty and worth it.
Bram V — Google review
If I had stayed in Uvita for more than a day, this would have been my morning (maybe even afternoon) stop everyday! The coffee is great and the tiramisu is yummy. I love how the building is constructed and that the baking is done there and the kitchen open for all to see.
Chandria S — Google review
I ordered cinnamon rolls which had raisins in it and I don’t like raisins luckily so didn’t eat the raisins and there was a beetle cooked into the pastry disguised as a raisin, I brought it up to the girl at the counter and she just laughed and took the plate away. Do not come here absolutely disgusting.

Restaurant
Los Almendros Restaurant is a Costa Rican and South American eatery situated on the route to Marino Ballena National Park. They offer an extensive menu suitable for the entire family. The nachos are exceptional and highly recommended, as is their jumbo margarita - both these items were so good that I found myself returning two days in a row just to have them again. Their hamburger is surprisingly large, while the calamari leaves something to be desired as it has a rubbery texture.
We were looking for a good restaurant that was close to the beach and unfortunately there were not too many options so we decided to try Los Almendros. Let me say that we are so happy we tried it!!! What a nice surprise. The service was very good. The food was exceptional. We had the American breakfast and an omelette, presentation and taste were so good. We will definitely come back here!

We had early breakfast at this lovely restaurant and it was phenomenal. Looks like the place has been recently renovated as well because it looks different from the photos. Maria José was our waitress, she was very knowledgeable regarding recommendations around the area, and very friendly. Would definitely come back here!
Juliana — Google review
Nachos were great, highly recommend! Also the jumbo margarita amazing! We went 2 days in a row to go back for those 2 items. The hamburger is bigger than you think. Calamari I wouldn’t recommend unless you want to suck on a rubber band. The Pima colada was delicious and beautiful!
Makay A — Google review
We ordered a soup, chifrijo as appetizers and a 2 lb whole fresh snapper as main dish. Well we got the appetizers and 4 min later an overly cooked fish arrived. We asked for the fish to be kept at the kitchen until we were ready to have it. The fish was taking to the kitchen until we asked for it. No apologies, or excuses. On the other hand the waiter that took our order was happyly talking to friends w the company of the cook and rest of staff. The fish was served again the same way as before and by this time really room temp. If you like cats and dogs around you while eating or cats by your chair waiting for you discard this is the place for you. For us it was a one in a lifetime experience.

Absolutely delicious! Great spot for after-beaching. Excellent food, chill vibe, fresh blended juices, and generous cocktails.

Very very slow service. Place was not cowded. Half an hour after we ordered they hadn't even started preparing our food and when we asked they said at least half an hour before our meal was ready. It was better to leave. Not recommended

Place was nice and friendly. I wanted to try authentic 🇨🇷 food. So they made a dish with rice and beans without the eggs (I'm vegan), I don't recall the name. But it was very yummy and the coconut pina colada with no alcohol was heavenly.

Flutterby House is a laid-back hostel with a restaurant and bar, as well as a shared kitchen. It's known for its vibrant atmosphere, delicious meals, and strong commitment to sustainability through its zero-waste policy. The location is just a short walk from the beach, offering simple quarters with friendly staff and well-maintained shared facilities. Visitors appreciate the communal atmosphere and the opportunity to connect with fellow travelers.
The most happening place in Uvita! I didn’t stay here but came by for a few nights for drinks and food. The atmosphere with the young hostel crowd is refreshing and inspiring. All of our meals were delicious and the drink menu is extensive. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. What a fun place to hang out!
Dan T — Google review
Travelled to this place and stayed 3 nights before the pandemic. I slept in a tree house with barely one bar to protect me from falling down. The second one was broken. It was quite the experience. Lights shut down at 10 pm and toilets/showers are common.
Aymen S — Google review
It’s the location that did it for me. It’s literally 2 minute to the beach and very easy to pass for free if you ask. The guy running the place was helpful and the treehouse set up was cool. There’s some yoga mats and kettle bells and dumb bells downstairs that you can do a little workout. About a 10 minute walk from the bus stop too which is handy as uvita doesn’t really have a centre. The trapoca bus station was about a 25-30 min walk but you can grab the local bus to it!
Natasha T — Google review
stayed here for two nights, the rooms were fine, mattresses a little uncomfortable but okay for a few nights. The staff was very friendly and they had a well equipped kitchen, only two showers and bathrooms for the whole hostel though. The location is fine, it’s very close to the beach which is nice but a pretty far walk from everything else which can get a little exhausting especially in the heat.
Stefanie L — Google review
We didn’t stay here but popped in for dinner and some drinks. Everything was excellent and well priced. (We had the Carne Casada, Shrimp and Rice and Guacamole app). The staff were all friendly and the atmosphere had a great energy!
Kat F — Google review
Excellent cocktails and service. Even if you’re not staying here I fully recommend just for food and cocktails.
Javier F — Google review
We stayed at this place for about three days, and the guy at the bar was incredibly nice and attentive. The kitchen was well-equipped with plenty of stovetops and always clean, thanks to the diligent effort of the cleaning lady. Every day, the hostel looked nice and tidy. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and the showers had cold water but really good pressure. There is a platform for yoga or exercise, hammocks, and a good social area. However, the place seemed to lack a vibrant social vibe. There were many young guests around, but they were more focused on partying than socializing. Of course, this can depend on the crowd at the time. I want to highlight the wonderful vibe brought by Moscow, a beautiful dog. He played with everything he found on the floor, running and jumping around happily, always putting smiles on people’s faces.

The menu boasts a variety of mouthwatering options, with a highlight on their delectable empanadas and pizzas. Whether you're craving traditional meat varieties or vegetarian alternatives, the freshly made dough and flavorful fillings are sure to impress.
We stopped here for lunch on our way back from Marino Ballena National Park and loved every bit of it ! The shop is tucked away on a secluded unpaved road and serves delicious Latin American food. We ordered mozzarella pizza, chicken empanadas and mozzarella sandwich and everything was prepared fresh upfront. A brick oven was fired up and the pizza and empanadas were made in there. The host was also very friendly and in the end packed the excess food for us. The shop has other goodies like earrings, stickers, hair ties and shirts for purchase as well.

Very cute spot when you have the craving for Argentine food! The empanadas were good but the Milanesa sandwich was even better! Very delicious!! Also, the alfajores de maicena were absolutely great! They tasted very authentic, just like from Argentina and were very fresh! Will definitely be a place to return multiple times!

Went there for quick bite and I loved it. Only tried their empanadas, alfajor and black coffee and everything was great. Everything is homemade. Their spot is cozy and the service friendly. I’ll be back for the pizza and milanesa sandwich.

My favorite food spot in Uvita! Basically all vegetarian option of empanadas were my favorite and it was always hard to choose which one I want today - cheese and onions, caprese or with vegetables. I like that they are baked in the oven and not fried in a lot of oil like in other places. The staff is super nice and friendly, always on a positive vibe! I’d also recommend to try a passion fruit juice that is so refreshing and tasty. Thank you, guys, for all delicious empanadas and your smiles! Pura vida 🤙🏻

We absolutely loved El Hornito! The empanadas are to die for — so good that we went back a second time during our stay in Uvita. A must-visit spot if you’re in the area.

Nestled near the beach, Sabor Español is a delightful gem that perfectly captures the essence of Spanish cuisine while adding a modern twist. This elegant and intimate restaurant is ideal for romantic dinners or special occasions, making it a top choice for honeymooners visiting Costa Rica.
This spot far exceeded my hopeful expectations. My dad’s family is from Madrid and i have grown up with Spanish food and know how incredible it can be and this was the best I’ve ever had. The Mediterranean influence is delicious and the chef came around to everyone to personally check in and introduce himself. It felt really special and intimate. An experience, not just a dinner. We got the last table without having a reservation and felt so lucky it worked out that way. Everything is super fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Our favorite Uvita restaurant so far.

This was, without a doubt, the best meal I had during my trip to Costa Rica. The dishes were beautifully presented, the quality of the ingredients was exceptional, and the flavors were bold and unforgettable. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The chef was not only skilled but also open and genuinely cared about each guest, ensuring everyone felt welcome and appreciated. An unforgettable dining experience that I highly recommend!

Can’t recommend this place enough. The property where this restaurant is located is quite magical and pleasing to the eye. To make matter even better, the staff were very friendly to us: explaining some details about the food and making suggestions. We got tasty natural drinks and for starting we couldn’t choose better with a ‘Choricitos en vino’ it was perfect. For the main entree we got the ‘Seafood Paella’ for 2 (bigger than pictured. That was the first plate of it.) It took a while to cook like 30mins, as noted in the menu, so take that into consideration but it definitely pays off. It’s just simply delicious and the presentation + how they serve it was easily was one of the highlights of our trip. For dessert, we got the ‘Piña flameada con helado’; it was very good too. Last but not least, we got as a treat from the chef a shot of Baileys and Flor de Caña Rum. The chef talked to us a couple of times and we really enjoyed that. Amazing experience and I highly recommend this place.

A fantastic restaurant that is just a few minutes walk from the beach. Chef Heri really cares about his customers' experience and makes sure to connect with every table at least once during their meal. The staff are attentive and professional. I enjoyed a bottle of red that I didn't finish and was able to take home with me. The mixed paella is SO delicious and one of the best I've ever had (Chef Heri is from Ibiza Spain) and the dessert was lovely as well. I highly recommend this restaurant

Best food in Uvita, or even Costa Rica for that matter Chef Eric is passionate about cooking and gives 100% attention Very good service by Patricia, ordered Margarita and it was simply wow All together 10/10 Must visit restaurant

This place is absolutely incredible. My boyfriend and I never leave reviews, but we really wanted to after we visited sabor Español. We found them on Google maps and couldn’t have been more impressed. The chef/owner is from Ibiza, and he cooked a delicious seafood paella for us. We went in slow season and it felt like having our very own private chef. Sangria is also my drink of choice anywhere I visit, and this might’ve been my favourite sangria I’ve ever had (his own recipe as well). The desserts we had were also different from anything else we had in Costa Rica, which the chef created as his own specialities. I can’t recommend this place enough - charming, delicious and wonderful service. Thank you!

Kinsú Restaurante is a beloved spot in Bodhi Surf + Yoga, known for its delicious local Costa Rican cuisine that caters to various dietary needs, including vegetarian and vegan options. Visitors praise the refreshing coffee, grilled chicken sandwich, and traditional dishes like desayuno tipico. The menu offers a variety of options, from authentic local fare to classic North American dishes.
One of my favourite restaurants that I visited in Uvita. It was fresh, flavourful, fantastic. The coconut ceviche is a must try. The coconut really adds a whole other layer to the taste. The mango chunks paired with the fish is delicious. I forgot the name of the second dish that I ordered but it was chips, avocado, and crispy pork with beans. It was always very good. Come early because this place was packed by time we left

Fast & friendly service. Easy parking. Covered outdoor seating. Dog friendly. We ate breakfast and my wife ordered Gallo Pinto while I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Great tastes and large portions for both meals. The waitress helped us buckle our child into a booster seat. When our child was done eating, the waitress carried her around the restaurant entertaining her so we could finish eating.

Tasty food with vegan/vegetarian options. Breakfast foods as well. Place was recommended by three separate people - retreat director, surfing instructor and community tour guy, and this place met expectations. My papaya smoothie was good but prob a stronger flavor fruit would have been better. Nonetheless it was refreshing. The ice coffee was 👍👍. Their recommended dish was coconut and mango ceviche but be warned you need to like sweet ceviche instead of the citrus. The chicken burritos were filling and delicious!

This place had such wonderful food we went back 3 times!. Lupe and the rest of the staff are so accommodating, kind and warn. For us the vibe in this place captures the very essence of this beautiful town and its community. Breakfast was so good and the Vegan bread was unlike any Vegan bread Ive ever had. It was truly delicious. Also Absolutely delicious shrimp bowl with fresh veggies and wonderful basil sauce! We also enjoyed the burritos and nachos. We were lucky to see the quarter final between the USA and Costa Rica here and the passion for the game was electric. We may have cheered opposing teams but we still felt the warmth of the locals as we watched. Highly recommend.

The atmosphere is relaxed with a selfie wall for fun photo opportunities. Bagel Time Bakery offers a lively atmosphere, sweet treats, and yummy breakfast options.
My husband and I have been here a few times now on our trip because we love the food and service to much! It’s a great spot with lots of flowers. I love the buttery cream cheese they put on the bagels. So good! Literally one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. The service has also been great every time we’ve gone. Greivin was our server and he was wonderful! Lovely to chat with! I’d recommend you try the jalapeño bagel and Tico Burrito from their menu. So good! And super reasonably priced. Our breakfasts came with coffee and fruit for no extra charge!

Breakfast here was amazing!! Very delicious!!! The bagels and breads are nice and fresh. We had bagel breakfast sandwiches and breakfast platters! The French Toast is absolutely to die for!!! The best I have ever had in my entire 40 years of life! Lots of sitting space and plenty of good breezes. Service is friendly. Absolutely no complaints…we visited several times during our trip and this will be our Go To breakfast spot from now on!

The bagels are just OK. Maybe I'm spoiled because I've had bagels in new york and Montreal (which are baked in actual wood ovens). We ordered several varieties and the everything was the best of the bunch. And it was decent. The jalapeno had no spice at all and barely tasted like jalapenos at all. The salted bagel paws also bland....with salt. 1As an added disappointment, they shorted our order by one bagel and we had to go back and explain several times how they shorted us. By then they had sold the last of the cinnamon/raisin (the missing item). If you're really in need of a bagel, this will do the job but just calibrate your expectations.

Bagel Time has quickly become one of our favorite spots in Uvita, it’s already close to our hearts. My partner and I have been several times, and every visit has been full of warmth, kindness, and seriously delicious food. You can taste the love in everything they make. We’ve tried the jalapeño, everything, and salt bagels, as well as the lox bagel. Each one has been fresh and flavorful. Some of the best bagels we have had in our life. The jalapeño cream cheese is a standout, with real fresh jalapeños that hit just right. What really sets this place apart, though, is the people. The customer service is incredible. Everyone behind the counter looks like they actually enjoy being there, genuine smiles, relaxed energy, and zero rush. Greivin has helped us every time we’ve gone, and he’s consistently kind, welcoming, and patient. We’ve been practicing our Spanish and always ask if we can try to order in Spanish first, he gives us space, helps us out when we need it, and never makes us feel judged or hurried. That kind of care and patience is rare, especially coming from the U.S., where I’ve never had an experience like that in a bakery or café. If you’re in Uvita, don’t miss this place.

Nestled in the charming town of Uvita, Pizza Time is a delightful Italian eatery that promises an authentic culinary experience. As you step inside, the inviting aroma of freshly baked pizzas wafts through the air, drawing you into its cozy ambiance. The restaurant features a spacious dining area where families and friends can gather to enjoy their meals together while soaking in a laid-back atmosphere enhanced by music and television.
One bite, everyone knows the rules First bite of the supreme pizza was delicious. Soft and chewy crust with good under carriage. Just the right amount of sauce and jam packed with toppings. The pepperoni pizza was similiar to the supreme but with tons of pepperoni. You can taste the quality in the dough and the toppings. 5/5

This is my second time visiting Costa Rica, and once again, this pizzeria did not disappoint! The pizza is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the staff truly make the experience unforgettable. Highly recommend! It’s one of those places you look forward to coming back to every time. Make sure you save room for the fried cheesecake—it’s out of this world

Exceeded my expectations. The pizza and wings were delicious. Danny was very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely go there again.

Best pizza we had in Costa Rica. Everything is made from scratch with fresh ingredients. The staff was super friendly. The restaurant is simple but it felt low key and relaxed to us and perfect for a quick dinner.

A hidden gem you must visit while in town! Whether you’re a foodie or just looking for a great place to relax, this pizzeria checks every box. The pizza is unreal! Very crispy and flavorful,. The atmosphere is warm and local, with friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home. It’s the kind of place you stumble upon and end up coming back to before your trip ends.

I run a wood fired pizza business in the US and was visiting Uvita on vacation. Pizza Time knows the art of pizza and the crew here makes some delicious pies. The owner was a pleasure to talk to and you can tell he takes pride in the pizza they make. With hand stretched dough, fresh ingredients, and wood fired taste, these pizzas are some of the best. We got a large 1/2 margherita 1/2 supreme, and had to get a cheese pizza to-go because our dinner was so good. Great atmosphere and great pizza. Highly recommend!

We went with a large group to pizza time while my family was visiting. If you want to save time during peak tourist season then use the website to place the order and pay at the register when you arrive. Everything we ordered was cooked well with excellent flavor. The Cesar Salad was the perfect size for four adults. Pizza sauce and toppings were fresh and tasty. My only complaint was getting stuck in the restroom for 15 minutes when the doorknob broke as I pulled the door closed. Some silicone-based lubricant and a screwdriver would prevent this from happening. I think that inconvenience should have earned a free beer for our table. Pura Vida I suppose.

Great pizza, service, clean restaurant, and nice prices. Had pizza, salad, and some drinks and service was top notch! Would highly recommend!

Serviced accommodation
Nestled in the charming town of Uvita, Hotel Bahia Azul is a delightful retreat that promises comfort and relaxation for its guests. This inviting hotel features spacious rooms with cozy beds and pristine bathrooms, ensuring a pleasant stay. Despite its proximity to the main road, the noise levels are surprisingly low, allowing for peaceful nights. The well-maintained pool offers a refreshing spot for swimming or exercise, while the beautifully kept grounds enhance the overall experience.
Our experience at the Hotel Bahía Azul's attached restaurant was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warmth and kindness by the owner, Tania, who exuded genuine hospitality throughout our meals. The food surpassed our expectations with each meal we indulged in. Fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared, we found ourselves returning for seconds, and even thirds, during our stay in Uvita. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, every dish was a delight to the senses, leaving us craving more. The atmosphere of the attached boutique hotel perfectly complemented our dining experience. A charming ambiance combined with attentive service made our meals even more enjoyable. It felt like dining in a hidden gem, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Overall, all three of our meals were unforgettable, thanks to the kindness of Tania, the delectable food, and the inviting atmosphere. We left with full stomachs and hearts, already planning our return trip. Without a doubt, the restaurant at Hotel Bahía Azul will remain a highlight of our travels, and we can't wait to be back for more.

This hotel is amazing! The rooms are nice, the pool is great! The attached restaurant was fire every time I ate there. There is a awesome central pillar totally carved by a member of the Boruca, it's gorgeous! The chef, Luigi, was great to talk to. He was an excellent cook and everything that came out of the kitchen was perfect. He made sure to ask if everything was good and was very quick to make any accommodations. The owner, Tania, was so nice! Sitting and listening to the rain while eating was the perfect Costa Rica experience. Tania was super fun to talk to and always willing to help with any requests. Eating some good fish, drinking an Imperial, and listening to the rain really encapsulates the Pura Vida lifestyle that Costa Rica is known for. There are also Boruca masks and art carved from balsa wood for sale if you need souvenirs. Do yourself a favor and stop by, you won't regret it! Oh man, I almost forgot to mention the homemade ice cream! Out of this world. The mango was incredible. While I was there a gentleman who was staying at another nearby hotel came by 3 different nights, just to get ice cream to take back and eat with his girlfriend.
Keith H — Google review
Our meal at the restaurant was not acceptable. Mariscada was sandy (seafood stew with mussels, lobster, fish etc, but should be cleaned better!) and the steak was FROZEN! The waitress did her best under very strained conditions by herself. She apologized for the food, shame the chef couldn’t face their mistakes. I hope for them improvement in the future!
Sally C — Google review
Among my some of my worse hotel experiences, for sure. Rooms were very dirty, dead bugs on the beds, brown water from shower faucet, previous tenants’ bathroom belongings left in rooms. The kicker, on top of the dirtiness, though, is the rodent infestation inside the walls - it’s lovely being kept awake by chittering and flapping? and fighting between rodents keeping you up all night. The proprietor dismissed that complaint as “those aren’t mice, they’re bats!” 😆 I guess that’s better? 2 stars instead of 1 because the proprietors were not unkind and did try to accommodate dietary restrictions - though they did take over an hour to prepare our party’s food and gave seemingly less food than advertised. Oh and the dining room smelled like urine (which might be due to the decidedly adorable and funny dog birthday party that was happening…in the dining room). We ended up not staying for our second paid day and booked another room. I’d recommend that this establishment takes a little bit more pride in their business, and maybe sweeps the live wasps nests out of the main stairway…

Hotel Bahia Azul, in my opinion, is a comfortable hotel that offers a clean and cozy atmosphere for its guests. also reasonably priced. I found rooms to be large and comfortable, the bathroom was clean, I found beds to be comfortable. Despite the fact that hotel is next to the road we heard very little sound from passing traffic. The pool was clean and well kept nice for swimming and excersise. Grounds are well kept. Food service is good with breakfast included. Other meals are charged seperatelly and reasonably priced. They also offer home made ice cream, hmmmm GOOD The personnel is very friendly, helpful and attentive to your needs. most of the time you are attended by the owner. Would I use this hotel in the future? YES I WILL
Jim M — Google review
Terrible establishment. Filthy rooms, run-down and appalling hospitality. Stained sheets, uncleaned rooms and bathrooms (when I complained our bathroom was dirty, the owner replied "Oh yes, that's the ants, they do that every day, somebody will clean your room tomorrow morning." No apology, and I had to wait for a full day for the ant debris to be cleared away. And in COVID too! Makes Super 8s look like the Ritz. Avoid it like the plague (or else you may catch it here)! Oh and in case they accuse this review of being a fake (as they have done on the previous ones, I've included a photo of the front of the "hotel".
Isabel A — Google review
Nice comfortable rooms, good service, restaurant on site. It's like a 15min walk from the entrance to the beach. Also, the hotel made my reservation for whale watching tour which was convenient. Recommended for simple trip with main focus on going to the beach and whale watching tours.
Diana B — Google review
Don't do it! The rooms are $79 per night, the restaurant does not serve food, the room is poorly furnished, TV doesn't work, the hot water is hot for 1 minute, the mattress way too hard to sleep on. Internet has little to no bandwidth. The beach closes at 4 pm! Our suggestion: avoid the city altogether.

Indómitos Café & Bar is a charming spot that offers a delightful dining experience. The menu boasts an array of vegan options, including veggie burgers, burritos with soy meat, tofu salads, and seitan tacos. Their specialties also include fresh juices, smoothies, and the famous dalgona coffee. Set in an open-air space surrounded by lush greenery, patrons can unwind amidst the natural beauty while savoring their meals.
All vegetarian menu! We had seitan burger and a Montaña burger (double black bean patty). The portions were quite big, we didn't have room for dessert. Shame, that looked awesome as well. A must go if your fuel is a plant based diet!

We had an excellent meal, the vibes were strong even though the restaurant was empty in rainy season. Staff were polite, attentive, and very friendly. We had a Thai tofu salad bowl from the specials menu and the Dylan burrito, thoroughly enjoyed both, and were particular fans of the in house pineapple flavoured hot sauce (not spicy at all but lovely flavour). A bonus was the geckos on the wall next to the bathroom which remind you how close to nature you are!

All vegan options we ordered were delicious! Super smoothie: Cocoa and Nuts (super good), Bruschetta (came with 3 flavors) as appetizer, tacos veggie birria (3 per order), Dylan’s burrito was amazing (very creamy), and burger de la Montana (we loved it the most). Also, chocolate pie dessert was great, not too sweet and came with a free coffee. The staff is outstanding. Friendly and polite. Lots of sitting area outside. Highly recommend this place!

I can’t recommend this place enough. We went for lunch twice and got food to go for dinner because it was that good! We had rainbow bowls, falafel starter, patacones and guacamole, pumpkin soup, Thai poke special, burrito, cacao pie, and lots of yummy juices. All fantastic and healthy! I would eat here every day if I could. Also, on my friends rainbow bowl to go she got a sweet note on her container and made her smile :)

Truly incredible cafe! Lots of delicious, creative vegan dishes. The chicken and mushroom wrap was a favourite (not pictured), as well as the mushroom croquettes. We stayed in Uvita for 5 days and walked to Indomitos (45 minutes from our accomodation) on 4 of those days! The staff are really lovely and friendly as well. 100% recommend, some of the best vegan food we've had anywhere in the world

Hands down one of my favorite spots. This place did not only provide exceptional friendly service by staff and the owner, but their food had me going from brunch to dinner! In fact, this was my last true dinner in Costa Rica and I regret I didn't find this place sooner! Vegetarian options and the cocktails were insatiable! Words cannot describe the goodness in this place. See the pics for yourself. Highly recommended! Get the local feel, dine outside, extremely friendly staff and owner, and the food is just mouthwatering good! The kind of place that will be on your list for the next visit.
ALEX U — Google review
The Caesar salad dressing was a bit thick and tasted a bit like mustard. The chick'n and mushroom wrap was tasty. I took home dessert as I was quite full (great portion sizes). The Snickers pie was delicious. The chocolate pie was alright, but there was an underlying banana flavor, which I didn't love, but some people might like it. Very nice staff and lovely location.

Stopped by Mosaic Wine and Sushi Bar for dinner with my husband whilst staying locally. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was very friendly and attentive. The cheeseboard was fantastic, and it made a great starter. For the main course we sampled their amazing sushi. The cocktails were very good and I thought the whole meal was excellent value for money. I would highly recommend a visit if you're in Uvita.

Cute little place tucked away near the Uvita waterfall. Best food and drinks we had all week. Even came back a second time to enjoy different menu items.

We had the best time and the most delicious food at Mosaic! Our server, Eliam, was an incredible host and so fun to get to know. The atmosphere is uniquely perfect and the sushi and wine were 10/10. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

This was my first time at Mosaic Wine and Sushi - it will definitely not be my last time. Fantastic restaurant! Great food! Great service! Great wine options - and the wine we ordered was perfect for the evening (we had two bottles). We sat in the wine room - I would recommend doing that as it is slightly air conditioned. The cheese board was much larger than I had anticipated. It is difficult to find good cheeses in the area but Mosaic has them.

This place is absolutely wonderful! The seared tuna appetizer is to die for, we should have gotten two! We also had the coconut ceviche, Diablo and Mosaic roll and fried banana for dessert. Everything was fantastic and the service was great. Highly recommended.

Please like and follow. Dropped by this place based on our friend recommendation. The restaurant has two seating areas, inside and outside. The outside is less formal and has tables and a living room style sofas. We sat on the sofas since they were comfortable. our server came fast, and we ordered coke, a martini, and I a custom-made lemonade. All drinks were done to precision a tasted good. For the food, we ordered sushi roll and tuna poke. The food was as good as the drinks. I will come back and recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Whale Tail Brewery CR, located in Uvita, is a popular spot for craft beer enthusiasts. Brewmaster Gian Michele offers eight varieties of high-quality beers that can be enjoyed at the brewery or at local restaurants. The brewery also features live music and entertainment, making it a lively hangout spot. Additionally, visitors can explore the nearby Marino Ballena National Park and witness the unique natural formation of a whale tail during low tide.
We had just finished a fun day hiking and exploring the actual national park at low tide to walk out on the sand bar that connects to a low rocky area that makes the land look like a real Whale Tail! Fabulous, but bring your sun screen. We decided to go for an early dinner and a few beers to the Whale Tail Brewery! It was the perfect way to end the day. Good food, Great Beer, kind staff and good music. We had a nice relaxing time. Highly recommend. Say hi To Brittney if she is there... So full of great energy.

Great restaurant with delicious food and cozy atmosphere. I had the Whale Tale Ceviche and one of the dark beers. The ceviche was super delicious. Highly recommend to order it. The service was also super friendly and even let me try the beer before I took my choice. There is also a hotel related to the restaurant hidden in the backyard. The backyard is also super cozy. All in all great restaurant. Thank you! Will come again.

Restaurant
Soda Ranchito Doña Maria is a charming Costa Rican eatery that offers authentic local cuisine. It's a small, cozy restaurant open from 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays, making it an ideal spot for breakfast or lunch. The menu features classic dishes like Gallo pinto for breakfast and hearty options such as steak platters, chicken empanadas, and casados. The friendly staff and refreshing water smoothies add to the delightful dining experience.
Well, our 4th of 5 days here, we found this little oasis and wished we'd found it on our first day. The food was gloriously fresh, with an excellent choice for all tastes. There's a small stream that runs beside it, and thus, you're up close to beautiful birds, and we also saw a large iguana. Heartily recommended.

Every dish is full of flavor and clearly made with love. The service is top-notch—friendly, attentive, and makes you feel like part of the family. The whole vibe is super chill and welcoming. Nice soda by a small creek with lots of wildlife. Refreshing smoothies made fresh with or without sugar (I recommend the papaya sin azúcar). The lunch plate is large and filling with lots of different tasty sides (including an unexpected beet potato salad). The creek makes for entertaining company. In less than an hour, we saw a basilisk, a large iguana, small birds, a family of large birds we couldn't identify (not a crested Guan), and heard a howler monkey we couldn't quite visualize. Great place to eat and chill, particularly when the rain gets heavy.
Yom A — Google review
Soda Ranchito Doña Maria is a place to really appreciate the simpler, finer things. If you came to Costa Rica hoping to taste the local fare...this is it. Tucked just off the main road, this soda serves food that locals crave and travelers talk about. From the first bite, you’ll know this is the flavor of Costa Rica. But what really sets this place apart is Doña Maria herself. The service is warm and genuine. Sit back. Let the breeze roll in. Sip something fresh and fruity. And soak up the atmosphere including a great little river that goes by it. Skip the tourist traps. Make the detour. Soda Ranchito Doña Maria is the kind of place that makes your trip better.

Aroma a Café is a charming spot located on one side of the Ruta 34 highway in Uvita. Despite its unassuming appearance, it offers a lovely atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. The indoor/outdoor setting allows guests to savor their coffee while listening to the soothing melodies of morning birds. The café's hot and frozen coffees are particularly delightful, especially when prepared using the French press method. Additionally, they offer non-dairy milk options for those with dietary preferences.
My experience at Aromas a Café was simply exceptional! The food and service from Ronald were top-notch. During my stay in Uvita, we chose to eat here every day, not only because of the affordable prices but also due to the quality of the dishes and the charming atmosphere. This place was highly recommended by my Airbnb host, and I will definitely recommend it to other travelers visiting Uvita. GOOD small little cafe/restaurant! It is located right by the road so it can get quite noisy. Food was okay, but did not hit that “wow!” moment. Staff were friendly but not exactly talkative or engaging. They had some soft jazz music playing in the background and it is outdoor seating. Free WiFi available and dog-friendly. Wait time was not long at all, we spent a max of 30-40 minutes for all the meals. Good menu variety. Overall, if you’re looking for a quick casual breakfast this is your place, if you want something with more flavor or kick to it I would go somewhere else!
