National park
Kosciuszko National Park, home to Australia's highest peak and town, offers a unique Alpine climate. The Cootapatamba Lookout near Thredbo's Kosciuszko Express chairlift is a popular spot for tourists. The main range track is a must-visit for those seeking pristine environments, with the option to explore the backcountry beyond Blue Lake. The park provides stunning views and well-equipped amenities. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions when hiking in the area.
We visited to hike the tallest mountain in Australia! Coming from the Rocky Mountains in the states, we found the hike itself to be very gentle and easy. Great accommodations and facilities! It was a great experience and we met people from all over the world!!

Be careful where you park at Guthega as they are doing revenue raising and scamming people out of $152. All the while letting people park in the middle of the road blocking it, the place is run by a bunch of monkeys I think. Maybe make it more obvious and out a sign that there is a large fine for parking in the wrong spot. Or maybe do what every other ski resort does and have someone out there managing traffic in the morning. It's really misleading as there is a sign saying no parking overnight which makes you think parking in the no parking spot is just not allowed overnight.

A beautiful place to drive through. Photos are from prior to the fires in 2019 and the foggy cloudy photos are from now. The stumps of the old building and the rebuild in the fog. Definately worth the drive through. Possibility of seeing the wild brumby.

My first time ever seeing ⛄️ Such a beautiful place ❄️ so many amazing things to see as it is massive.

Stunning area for hiking, bike touring and other outdoor activities. I did a bike tour through the Jagungal Wilderness and loved it, hard work though

We went hiking yesterday and the weather so dramatically changed. It was 36 degree a day before and the day we hiked just dropped to 18 , showering and windy and sunny at the end. When we arrived it wasn't that bad ☁️ so just be prepared for the weather, bring some layer with you. We went to the Mount Kosciuszko walk (Thredbo pass), so we did buy the tickets for the Chairlift (no need to buy tickets if you think you are strong enough to hike up to the mountain) to the top and walked to the beginning of the track (steal platform , some part is stone path some part still dirt path ) Overall we were very impressed with the scenery and wild flowers.

We had a weekend getaway to thredbo while on our way back from Kosciusko national park, spotted two kinds of deers, seems the one was feral deers and others black. It was truly amazing to see 🦌 in the land of 🦘. Recommend you all to keep an eye around on your next visits…

Kosciuszko Chairlift

4.6
(1146)
Ski resort
Elevate your adventure with a ride on the Kosciuszko Chairlift, an essential feature for anyone visiting Mt. Kosciuszko. This meticulously maintained chairlift provides a safe and smooth journey to Australia's highest peak, offering breathtaking views along the way. With recent upgrades including new snowmaking guns and fan guns, the chairlift ensures a comfortable ascent for visitors. While it offers convenience and stunning vistas, keep in mind that operations are weather-dependent.
The climb to the top of Australia is an amazing experience. The chairlift ride from Thredbo is pretty expensive, but a terrific experience in itself. If you like a small challenge and love wide open natural spaces, this hike is highly achievable and deeply fulfilling. Recommended for most as the pathway is ideal for walking. Lots of kids can make it too. There are slopes but nothing severe. Just gentle ramps on pretty even grades. Be careful though, it's only a short (12km) hike but the weather conditions up top are often dramatically different from the bottom of the Thredbo chair. I highly recommend you check this situation out as the result will have a significant difference to the enjoyment of your hike. I have a very proud 9 year old tonight!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We took the Kosciuszko Chairlift and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. The ride was smooth, relaxing, and the views were absolutely breathtaking — endless mountain ranges, crisp air, and picture-perfect scenery in every direction. It’s a must-do if you’re visiting the Snowy Mountains. The chairlift is well maintained, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it’s the best way to take in the beauty of the area without rushing. We’ll definitely do it again next time we’re here! — Gurinder Singh

What a great experience, had experienced snow on 23.12.2024, did Mount Kosciuszko summit walk, plenty of snow in Summer. Beautiful ride on the chair lift.
Vinod ( — Google review
Nice view and wonderful experience taking the chair lift. The minus 1 star is about the price. There is no return or one way ticket option! We must buy theday pass even we may want to take lift for 1-2 times only!! They should offer single trip ticket again which is more fair to the hikers that may want to do less trips. Also ensure you step on the T bar as it may lift up during the trip if you are not stepping on it.
Alison C — Google review
Relatively expensive if you're only doing one trip. Great views but it's quite a hike to the lookout once off the chairlift, it is all paved though. Great value if you're a mountain biker as the lift pass is for all day
Chris W — Google review
Super expensive, would honestly only reccomend if youre skiing, hiking or not planning to come back.
Sue D — Google review
Amazing amazing experience. We did the walk till Highest peak after the chair lift. You get all day pass and you can do chairlifts as many times, specially the bikers can take their bikes do their bike run and again take the chairlift with their bikes. Beautiful views and breathtaking nature... there is a restaurant up at the end of chairlift and there are toilets there too and also before you go up there are toilets and a take away cafe too.
Mitali V — Google review
Easy chairlift to get on and much slower entrance and exit than your typical ski run lift chair. Great views up the mountain both ways. Peaceful view of the trails.

We visited Thredbo on 13th July 2019 and the journey from Sydney to Thredbo was quite long. About 5 hours with a few stops in between. It's was -3 degrees in Thredbo and we arrived an hour before the next snowfall. It's an awesome experience to be out there in the cold. Some of the things we learnt on the way 1. Stop at the petrol station on the way up because when u come back from Thredbo everyone stops to refuel. 2. Strike up a conversation with local people. They are friendly and helpful. A huge shout out to the couple we met at the petrol station. They can tell you about whether snow chains are needed or where you can rent equipment etc. 3. Snow chains are not needed if u have an All Wheel Drive or 4 Wheel Drive. If it's a Sedan, it's better to have it. 4. There is a entry fee to the national park. For the day it was 29.00 5. There are lots of parking locations and vehicles keep coming in and out, so you just need to search for a spot. 6. The Village is where the food is .. which is about 10 minutes walk from the parking areas. 7. Carry waterproof gloves and shoes. When you play with the snow .. your fingers go numb. 8. If you leave late (after 4 or 5 pm) be ready for the congestion on the road taking you back to Perisher / Cooma. 9. It's possible to drive up to Thredbo from Sydney and back in a day but will be tiring. To summarize .. great place to visit at least once .. the drive is nice and scenic ... people are good and helpful. Enjoy and hope it helps you prepare a little to visit Thredbo / Snowy Mountains.

Located on the edge of the village near the Thredbo River, Thredbo Burger Bar offers American-inspired cuisine in a relaxed setting. After a day of outdoor activities, visitors can indulge in a variety of hearty dishes such as Black Angus beef burgers, flame-grilled chicken burgers, slow-cooked pork ribs with bourbon barbecue sauce, onion rings, and chicken wings with buffalo sauce.
The food is delicious and generous. The service is impeccable, the view & ambience—- well you can’t get much better with a clear mountain stream about 4 meters away and the base of the ski & Mountain bike mountains about 50 meters away. An a sunny day the deck is the choicest place to sit. Steve remembers your name and makes you feel welcome. I will return as often as possible. Always check their website first opening hours & you can book online www.theburgerbar.com.au

Great spot for our lunch today with those views and everything else! We had burger, wings with spicy sauce option and fries, and all were great. The service was definitely warm and friendly. Really recommend this place when you're in the area.☺️

Firecracker burger is amazing! It is a must try if you can handle spicy burger! The kids menu burger is not good, don't opt for that. The drinks are good, would recommend firecracker and beer! The chicken wings and onion rings were delicious!

We loved our burger bar experience. Great meals. They came out super fast and delicious. Very well priced for the area. Really friendly attentive staff!

Best hot wings (buffalo style) in Australia. Not kidding. And one of the best burgers I've had in Australia for sure. We were extremely lucky to find this place as all the other restaurants here are well reviewed but not that good. Don't worry about the black bun, it tastes just like a regular bun (they call it a charcoal bun, it's a popular concept here, but doesn't taste at all like charcoal).
James B — Google review
Where do I start. It's located near the tennis court so pass the shops and main area. It's at the Riverside Cabins. It's worth the trek! Hubby and I were ravenous after our hike to the top of Mt Kosciusko and this was a fantastic reward. We ordered the Blue Cheese burger and chicken buffalo bill with sides of sweet potato chips and red onion rings. We smashed it. It was soooo good. The best burger we've had in the area! We could not fault anything. My chicken was char grilled and I loved the taste of the char. Hubby said his burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned well.. Even the sides were spot on the onion rings were perfect just crunchy and soft and sweet inside and so were my sweet potato fries. We had a nice spot outside too with river view! Service was great too. Super efficient and friendly. It wasn't the cheapest but was satisfying. Will def be back! Thank you for the great food and service. Keep it up!
L D — Google review
I would highly recommend the truffle (beef) burger! The beef patty was tender and cooked to a nice medium rare, dripping in the truffle aioli sauce. All their burgers are served on gourmet charcoal sesame buns. The skinny fries were fairly average and unseasoned - definitely order a sauce to go with it. My friend’s ordered sweet potato fries and onion rings, which were both better quality. Acidic and crisp, the dry pink lady apple cider paired nicely with the meal. One thing that my friends and I found ambiguous was the way the menu was written. It led us to believe that the side (of fries) came with the burger. Instead of sharing between 2, we all got our own pot of fries. Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish it all and that led to a lot of food waste. I wish the waiter had pointed this out to us at the start. Definitely try to book in advance if you want to dine here for a weekend dinner. While it is not a cheap meal, nothing at Thredbo is. Overall, I liked this place and I would come back ☺️

5 Stars – A Must-Visit in Thredbo! Candlelight Lodge Restaurant is an absolute gem in Thredbo! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm, friendly service and a cozy alpine atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The views from the dining area are breathtaking, especially at sunset — the perfect backdrop for a relaxed evening. The food? Outstanding. Every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. The schnitzel was crispy perfection, the steaks were cooked to order, and the desserts were the cherry on top — especially the chocolate fondant. You can really tell they use quality ingredients and take pride in every plate. We also appreciated the great wine selection and the thoughtful touches throughout the experience. It’s clear why this place has such a strong reputation. Whether you’re visiting for the snow or just passing through Thredbo, make sure to treat yourself to a meal here. We’ll definitely be back!

Candlelight is true to historic alpine food, beverages and architecture. The owners provide a gorgeous selection of European beers and authentic foods like fondue. Everything is excellent. Cannot fault a thing. Every time I've been here (which is a lot) it's always been a great experience. Shout out to Jacques who performs live music on certain days. He's amazing. Highly recommend.

Myself and my partner came for dinner and so glad we did. From the drinks at the bar, to the entree and the shared wagyu main for dinner everything was absolutely delicious. The girls were super friendly and so lovely. Loved the atmosphere and the views. The interior of the hotel was traditional and even though its been renovated we loved how they have kept the olden day look.

National Parks
Mount Kosciuszko, standing at 2,228 meters in Kosciuszko National Park, is the highest mountain in Australia. The park offers various walks and hikes like the Rennix Trail and Thredbo to Mount Kosciuszko walk. It's located in New South Wales within the Snowy Mountains of the Australian Alps. The track to the summit takes about 6 hours round trip and requires good shoes due to snow near the peak.
We hiked to the summit of Mt. Kosciuszko (2,228 meters), Australia’s highest peak! Starting from Thredbo Village, the walk to the Eagle Nest chairlift station (1,927 meters) was pleasant, thanks to well-maintained paths and favourable weather—just light winds. Be mindful of downhill bike trails along the route. From the Eagle Nest, we continued about 6 kilometres to the summit, where it got windier and cooler, so a shell jacket is a must! After reaching the top, we returned to the Eagle Nest and then took the chairlift back down. If you choose to hike back to the village, the total distance is around 20 kilometres, so be ready for a full day! * You can not buy a descent ticket at the top, please buy a one day ticket at the bottom. The views from the summit were breathtaking, making the effort worthwhile. I highly recommend this hike for anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Australia’s highest peak!
Yoko K — Google review
We walked to the summit from the Thredbo chairlift, the wind was strong and very cold so I'd recommend dressing warm regardless of it being summer. It took us 3 hours to get from the chairlift and back with about 15mins hanging out at the summit and a couple breaks on the way for pics. We did spot a snake so keep an eye out. Great achievement making it to the top !!
James A — Google review
The scenery was absolutely stunning! We did a partial snow hike, starting at 11:30 and reaching Eagle’s Nest Point by 3:30, catching the last chair lift back just before 3:45. It was an awesome hike and a great experience overall! If you’re planning to go snow hiking, make sure to wear proper clothing and snow shoes. We had all the gear, which made the hike much easier and more enjoyable — a well-packed and thoroughly fun adventure!
Cebin S — Google review
An incredible experience! I took the chairlift and spent about 2.5 hours walking from the Thredbo Chairlift Top Station to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko. The trail is mostly flat and easy, with amazing views along the way. You'll pass the highest restaurant and even the highest "dunny" in Australia—how cool is that? Reaching the highest point on the continent felt truly rewarding. Just make sure to plan your time well and check the chairlift timetable—we almost missed it, which would have added another 2 hours walking back down. Overall, a memorable and scenic adventure that’s worth every step!

Absolutely loved being able to walk to the highest mountain in Australia. Locals advised us to walk from Charlotte Pass. Easy to park as we arrived early morning. Toilet at car park. 18.6km return walk. Charlotte Pass is 1755m above sea level Mt Kosciuszko 2228m. The track is well maintained, sign posted and slowly takes you up to the mountain on a wide track. Beautiful flowers, scenery and the Snowy River on the way. We stopped at Seamans Hut for a bite to eat & a chat with two knowledgeable Rangers. Toilet near hut. Another toilet (the highest in Australia) is at Rawsons Pass, just before the last 1.7km to the top. This is the steepest part of the walk, but still ok. Amazing to reach the summit and to be on top off Australia. Cairn and information board there. Ensure you check the weather before going, be prepared with a coat incase conditions change. Wear sunscreen and good walking shoes. We saw all ages walking. The track became busier when we reached Rawson Pass with the people that had caught the chairlift.

Alfresco Pizzeria is a popular Italian dining spot located near an activity center, offering a unique atmosphere and experience. While some customers have noted that the food may not be the best value for money, others have praised the friendly service and delicious thin and crispy crust pizzas. The Meat Lovers pizza, in particular, has been highlighted for its authentic taste. Despite being busy, the restaurant managed to impress customers with their quick service and tasty offerings when other eateries were fully booked.
Great pizza shop. The girl on the register, her name might have been Alli, was super friendly and clearly had years of experience in taking orders for pizzas and then subsequently making the aforementioned pizzas. The other British lady, Laura was equally as nice and only enhanced the atmosphere of the shop. Would recommend

Absolutely the worst spaghetti bolognese I have ever had. I thought they accidentally gave me a kid's meal, with barely any sauce and half cup of water at the bottom of the bowl. Went back to the counter to show them my food and a grumpy man behind the counter very rudely responded that it was not water but tomato sauce. He said he never uses water, just sauce from the can. The spaghetti cost $22 LOL. Pizza was quite bland but would probably appeal to kids. Definitely not worth what they were charging. Go to the pub upstairs to get a meal. That should have been a dead giveaway to avoid this place (there were no local customers).
Heng W — Google review
Terrible service. Employees sitting around talking whilst we waited to order. Spaghetti bol was watery and just all around terrible. We couldn’t eat it. Garlic bread and supreme pizza were average. It just felt like rushed food with no effort. We ordered Monday night and it was great pizza but there was a different cook tonight.
Stale B — Google review
Got take away pizza because all the other restaurants were fully booked. It was not bad, warm, lots of toppings. The small size is quite small, but thick. It was warm and fresh, a little overpriced but just like everything else in this town
Mayalen P — Google review
Couldn’t get any help when I walked in. Spotted 2 tables so joined them together for our group and hoped I was doing the right thing. Tried to find someone to speak to but one doing the orders and others must be making pizza? Enjoyed the food BUT, 2 families ordered together, one came out and one didn’t. We were told 30-40 min wait so at 40 min we had to ask for the other order to be checked. Food ticket had been lost. Ok, these things happen, tired and hungry kids at this point. Got an apology, food was made and came 15-20 min later. Now I believe when you make a mistake like this you should offer some compensation. An extra garlic bread? One of the small pizzas refunded? Something? Wasn’t a cheap meal and nothing to recognise the mistake made. That’s not ok.
Leone D — Google review
Lady at the counter was incredibly rude. I almost didn’t place my order but went ahead - because the kids were hungry and wish I hadn’t. As others have mentioned, the spaghetti bolognaise is the worst I have ever seen. Watery, hardly any meat and tiny. Oh and don’t expect to be able to wait inside away from the elements! Even though the place was empty and takeaway menu the same price as eat in, you have to stand outside whilst they take forever to make your meal. Really, it was the lady at the front that put me off. So rude!

So the stupid Thredbo Supermarket was closed due to "Internet outage" and every Thredbo eatery was booked out for weeks. Alfresco saved the day. They were so busy, working incredibly hard, but somehow managed to cook up two perfect pizzas and garlic bread in under an hour. Lots of topping, super tasty, these guys deserve a medal.

Great Dinner, first time dining with the new management in 2025. Amazing new menu !! Limited but the best. Loved the Shepherd’s Stew or lamb stew Slow Cooked Lamb Potato Carrot Onion Herbs and Spices. Mushroom Risotto and Pesto Fusilli had wonderful and lovely taste. Couldn’t miss the dessert, had tiramisus cake, was amazing too. Thanks to the chef and the staff, had a wonderful time.

Amazing experience in T-bar Thredbo! We came to have lunch June 21 with cold and what a reception! Worm Welcome with firewood and a cozy table in front to the fire. We did try the foccacia with cheese and it was delicious. Generous plate! We had to be back at evening to try the dinner menu nd We did! We delve into an amazing experience of flavours with the trio cotoleta and risotto. Everything delicious and beautiful! Again Generous portions! Of course Saturday We came back to enjoy our lunch with salami and rucula pizza and guess... Fantastic!!! And... We loved the dessert as you can check in the video! Team fantastic and super friendly! I highly recommend T-bar!!!

Beautiful food! A really simple menu, but you can tell just how much love is poured into each dish. Very tasty!! Staff were attentive and kind. Definitely recommend booking as it is a small space. Looking forward to our next visit!

Warm, friendly service and amazing Italian food. Six of us ate here twice in three nights. A really well curated menu and wine list and every item we tried was superb. Totally authentic. The desserts were exceptional. I wish we had a local restaurant like this back in Sydney.

We have eaten at every iteration of T-Bar over the past 25+ years and under the new management, this Italian restaurant was a pure delight. The menu might look limited but every meal, side and dessert we had was absolutely delicious- our plates were as good as licked clean by the time we finished! The service was faultless and friendly and we wish the new team there every success! Well worth the visit!

Speechless! This might as well be the best restaurant in Thredbo. Beautiful restaurant, super friendly service and home of one of the most delicious ravioli I ever had. The cheesy focaccia bread and the smoked chicken pizza were awesome too. They also take requests to swap ingredients happily. This must be the first time I took a photo of our clean plates. Cannot wait to go back.

The service staff were very accommodating, we somehow managed to book online quite late but were able to get a table after a few minutes of the staff doing their best to squeeze us in. We loved the lasagne and the mushroom risotto especially. The food was as beautiful as the people serving us. Don't be like us and book last minute, or you might miss out on this gem!

We came here for dinner due to the “good” reviews on Google, in comparison to the other restaurants that are available at Thredbo. This may be due to a change in management, however the food was subpar and we had to wait quite a while to get our food. Although, the restaurant is very cozy and warm, especially during Winter which was nice.

Cafe
Zack's on Central Road is a popular spot in Thredbo, offering a diverse range of dining options. The venue serves Australian-style cafe breakfast favorites and hearty pan-Asian dishes for lunch, including ramen, pho, and laksa. It's known for its great coffee, making it an ideal stop before hitting the ski slopes. The menu features a variety of dishes such as Beef Laksa, Prawn Laksa, Pork Ramen, and dumplings.
these guys do amazing curry and the coffee is next level. they even do a snack pack though its not on the menu. we got fresh donuts made by "The Donut king" himself with his curly hair and smile, hes so sexy!!!

While in Thredbo, we came across this restaurant and decided to try their pizza and Sticky Asian Chicken Wings. Both dishes were just okay, nothing particularly noteworthy. The chicken wings were slightly undercooked, a bit wet, and overwhelmed by too much ABC sauce. Five more minutes in the oven would have made them more to my liking. The pizza was also quite ordinary. However, the prices were reasonable, so it wasn’t overly expensive.

Honestly food there is amazing and the hot chocolate yumm however customer service is horrible (south American like accent) girl service us no smile on face no greeting and even when we try to adjust our order she was getting irritated. Just asked if we can change sauce in burrito and she was like dont know. Not even like ‘sorry im not sure letme ask to kitchen’ but she seemed like don’t care. Very disappointing service.

We absolutely love their pizza—it’s honestly one of the best we’ve had. Unfortunately, we’re giving a 1-star rating for poor customer service. The staff member who served us (Western-looking) made an offhand comment that came across as culturally insensitive after we raised an issue about receiving the wrong order. It was a disappointing experience that took away from an otherwise excellent meal.

Amazing (polite, positive and helpful) personnel, good food and laaarege stone baked pizzas with thin crust (can be enough for 3 people!). You don't need to book a table, walk-in is fine. They also offer smoothies, delicious doughnuts and really good coffee. Kid's hot chocolate is served with whipped cream and a marshmallow. Not a noisy place, you can talk normally.

The Food The Food The Food The wagyu steak was devine and the 24hr bao buns and ribs were spot on The Chefs name is Lee‼️ This guy know his stuff and if he’s in the kitchen order up and hook in then you’ll need a quiet place to digest and relax as it hits the spot 10 out of 5 right here‼️ I only wish I was good enough to eat two as I would’ve ordered again 🙏🏻👊🏻👌🏻

Been four times so far and each time the service feels like we are an inconvenience to them no matter how cheerful we are to them. Coffee is decent but not great, pulled pork burger is good.

Family restaurant
Merritts Mountain House is a popular spot for skiers and snowboarders, but it's now accessible to pedestrians thanks to the Merritts Gondola service. The daytime menu offers hearty mountain dining options like slow-cooked lamb shanks and hot chocolate with whipped cream, while the Saturday night Mountain Haus Feast features Bavarian-inspired dishes. Visitors can enjoy apres-ski on the deck with a live DJ or take in the incredible mountain views.
Awesome spot to grab a feast and some beverages on the mountain. Plenty of seating and plenty of choice for food, she does get a little busy around lunch time so aim to have an early or late lunch to dodge the crowds. The views of the slopes is great from the outdoor seating and would highly recommend.

Below average food selection. Although perfect stop for hot beverages after hiking. Ok atmosphere, lots of flies… Great service though.

My favourite restaurant bar on the mountain. Really handy meeting point. Food is decent and the staff are friendly.

Had a fun experience here! The weather was perfect & the ski lift to the top was totally relaxing watching the beautiful scenery roll by. Everything you need for a great day on the slope. Cafe style food & amenities available at the top.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What an amazing experience! The Merritts Gondola lift was smooth, breathtaking, and so much fun. The views going up were absolutely stunning — snow-covered trees, mountains, and that crisp winter air. It felt magical! Food and service at the cafe was good too. Everything was well-organised and safe, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was my kids' first time seeing snow and this ride made it even more special. A must-do if you're visiting Thredbo! 🥰💕

We had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant. Although the place was still open and there were other customers still sitting comfortably, we were the only ones told to leave. We had paid and finished our meal, yet the staff insisted we go while allowing others to stay. This felt discriminatory and completely unfair. If they were closing, all customers should be treated equally. I would not recommend this place and will not be returning.

Great spot for a break from the slopes. The service, Coffee and hot chocolates were great. Food was disappointing. Expensive and cold.
