Plaza Independencia

Park
Plaza Independencia in Mendoza is a vibrant and lively hangout spot, featuring lush greenery, a semicircular fountain, and various vendors. This main square covers 55,000 square meters of green space and boasts rare trees and plants. The centerpiece is the striking Frieze of Independence monument with depictions of significant scenes. Surrounding the plaza are shady pergolas that provide a perfect place to relax and take in the surroundings.
It's a beautiful city park where lots of people come to watch colorful light shows, ever changing fountain, listen to moody music, and have fun otherwise. Salud to the beautiful city Mendoza.

Very alive. I felt safe. If you wanna enjoy the city, don’t miss the bus city tour ($38 aprox)

Very gorgeous park that is super clean, it’s used as intended and safe. Wonderful park that in the afternoon has people selling their artisanal crafts
Brutally H — Google review
Plaza Independencia is a beautiful and lively place to spend some time in Mendoza. The park is filled with huge, mature trees that offer plenty of shade, and the sound of the water fountains adds a really peaceful vibe. In the center, there’s an underground museum that’s worth checking out. It feels totally safe, with families, couples, and friends relaxing on benches or shopping at the pop-up vendor booths. A great spot to take a walk, sit with a coffee, or just enjoy the energy of the city.
John C — Google review
This is exactly what a park should be. A place for everyone to hang out, escape the chaos of daily life and relax with your friends or loved ones. I visited the park during the Christmas time and it was decorated accordingly with a market on Tuesday and a beautiful Christmas tree. The sunset in the park was beautiful and we were lucky to catch a glimpse of a fountain show accompanied by Disney music. The Avengers theme is to this day goosebump inducing. Walking through the park was the first time during my stay here that it actually felt like Christmas. A lovely place and I truly recommend hanging out here!
Animesh G — Google review
This is Mendoza's biggest park and has a pretty fountain. It is a very interesting place where you can see performances and artistic activities everywhere on weekends. There are a lot of people, but it's not unpleasant. I was fascinated by the lively atmosphere there. The streets are not dirty, music is flowing, and small temporary stores sell various cute ornaments, bowls, and souvenirs, so I think it would be interesting to watch even if I didn't buy them. While in Mendoza, I visited this place every evening to take a walk or sit down and listen to music. It was a very nice place.
Wonny — Google review
Good plaza\park with artist selling, the water fountain has a show and is the center of Mendoza city but you have to be careful there is a lot of people stealing or doing drugs
Bryan H — Google review
Love this place. There is such a great vibe here. You feel totally safe, even with tons of people around. The park is surrounded by tons of great restaurants. The water show at nice is cool.

Mendoza City Tour

Bus tour agency
Mendoza City, located over 1000km west of Buenos Aires, is a low-rise city with wide streets and avenues that were intentionally designed after a major earthquake in the late nineteenth century. The city's greenery is sustained by an extensive artificial irrigation system, providing vital shade during the scorching summer months.
Excellent city tour, will take you to the most relevant spots in the city, duration 3hours, it's hop on and off, it also links with the Luján de Cuyo bus tour.
Dario R — Google review
The dont respect the route schedules and you might have to wait over an hour for another bus to come by. The also dont have a support system once you are off the bus to know when the next bus is coming.
Alejandro S — Google review
We attempted to board the bus, assuming we could buy tickets on board. Incorrect. We asked if we could jump on and buy them online so we'd have time to enjoy the tour. Not only did they not have the option - they were quite rude about it. (Quite unusual in my three years of visiting Argentina). In the end we were basically begging them. Nope. Get off. A simple "We're sorry about that, we can't." would have been fine. Being made to feel you're one more annoying tourist? Not fine. They definitely did me a favor. I spent 45 minutes on their website and tried three different US credit cards. Generated two orders but couldn't get the payment gateway to cooperate. (For context, I own an IT company). After reading the reviews, I had minimal expectations. But the entire experience was dismal. Save your money, use Google to navigate where you're interested in and have a wander around. For that matter, for 60,000 you can catch quite a few Uber rides. Mendoza is great. This company? Pathetic.
Timothy F — Google review
If you are English speaking, do not go on this trip, unless you have been told the commentary is on English. We were not and the headphone commentary was constantly being overridden by the tour representative on board. Therefore we learnt very little about the city. We did mention this to the representatives on board, but they just kept telling us the tour is in Spanish. Not a great advertisement for trying to encourage international tourism.
Tina J — Google review
Lovely staff. The other languages on headphones don't always work. Not a lot of history unlike Santiago Chile tour we did last week. If short for time not a bad idea. About 20,000 pesos per adult.
Renee C — Google review
While the tour offered some beautiful views from the park, I found it challenging to fully enjoy the experience due to a few shortcomings. Firstly, as an English speaker, I felt excluded because the tour was conducted entirely in Spanish at over talked English commentary. This made it difficult for me to engage with the commentary and fully appreciate the tour's highlights. Furthermore, the absence of a tracking app made it challenging to navigate the tour route and anticipate stops effectively. This lack of technological support detracted from the overall experience and made it less convenient. Additionally, the requirement to purchase tickets exclusively at Plaza Independencia posed an inconvenience, limiting accessibility and flexibility as we wanted to join tour at stop 5 (other city’s offer this option) Overall, my experience with the city bus tour was below expectations, primarily due to the language barrier, lack of technological amenities, and limited ticketing options. I hope this can be improved for other customers.
Natalia M — Google review
A total waste of time and money. It’s better to get a taxi to take you to the few points of interest in the city. Also beware they charge foreigners double than to Argentinians. This practice is a total disgrace.
Alexandre V — Google review
Quite reasonably priced, but the very little English commentary, was always drowned by the voice of the guide, speaking very loudly, in Spanish. As I speak no Spanish, I was not made aware of all the discounts and promotions on offer. Going through the park, whilst sitting upstairs, you need to be aware of the low branches, which might cause you some damage.

Performing arts theater
Teatro Independencia, also known as Independence Theatre, stands as the main performing arts venue in Mendoza. It was established as part of a provincial initiative to boost tourism around Independence Square and has become an architectural gem of the city with its neoclassical facade and stylish interior. The theater hosts various cultural and artistic events, making it a must-visit for enthusiasts of architectural photography and performing arts.
I had the privilege to listen to Horacio Lavandera, a Mendocinian pianist, at the Teatro Independencia. Those who appreciate the art of music will fully understand why is a mandatory stop to visit it, if you are in Mendoza, Argentina.
C. J — Google review
Well maintained and with good selection of theatrical, musical and comedy performances.

This is the most beautiful theater in Mendoza, excellent to listen live music, the architecture is old and so valuable. They always tried so hard to get the place as the original look. Going there to watch a show, concert always is a pleasure. Also on the winter break the best shows for kids play there. Totally recommended!

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Located in the heart of Mendoza's city center, Azafran is a modern restaurant that offers a sophisticated take on classic Argentine cuisine. The executive chef, Gabriel Stivala, has crafted iconic dishes such as the slow-cooked lamb shank and prawns with onion jam, white corn mazamorra, and parmesan foam. With an extensive menu featuring traditional Argentine dishes and Mediterranean-inspired options, Azafran provides a diverse culinary experience.
Thank god we tried Azafran. It was very great evening and experience. The restaurant met all the expectations and criteria. Money valued 100% below some photos of our journey to Mendoza flavours. Service impeccable. Well done girls (can’t remember the names).
Giorgio F — Google review
Went on Sep/2025. Heard from Azafrán by the Michelin website. Food, service and atmosphere on point. Great wine pairing and storytelling, had an amazing time with my friends.
Elias S — Google review
I brought my partner here last night for his birthday and we enjoyed our 3 hour dining experience. The staff were attentive and spoke very good English. They had good knowledge of the menu ingredients and their connection to Argentina. I was impressed with the extensive list of Argentinean wines on offer by the bottle and was also appreciative that there was more than just one red/white to choose from by the glass (whilst my partner enjoyed his Cerveza). We enjoyed the food and loved the presentation but unfortunately we had experienced an exceptional steak elsewhere in Mendoza. Additionally, we feel the Cachapa dish was overly generous, which may have also affected our enjoyment of the steak - hence the 4 star rating. Overall, we enjoyed our experience, so I've given a 5-star rating. For the same level back home, we would be paying significantly more. Thanks, Azafran, for the mini chocolate tart and bubbles at the end - was a lovely touch for the birthday boy!
T L — Google review
Both food and service are outstanding! I would say the price (180$ for the set menus and 15$ per wine glass) is not justified at all though! I have been to multiple 1 & 2 star restaurants in European and central/ South America. countries that offered service and culinary experience more elevated for lower prices ….. So for South America and what is being offered , I would say the price makes no sense to me
Noureldin S — Google review
Azafrán in Mendoza is nothing short of a revelation. In a city known for its wine and culinary prowess, this restaurant stands above the rest—not just as a highlight of the trip, but possibly as one of the best meals we’ve ever had. And we don’t say that lightly. The experience is centered around a single fixed menu, and what a parade it is. Each course arrives with that rare mix of elegance and surprise—flavors you’d never expect to belong together, fitting seamlessly, brilliantly. Every dish felt like its own little universe, thoughtfully composed, beautifully plated, and layered with creativity and restraint. Not once did the menu stumble or feel like it was trying too hard. It just worked—again and again. We highly recommend the wine pairing, though be warned: it’s a lot of wine. But what an experience. Each pour is expertly matched and generously served, introducing you to regional varietals you may never have encountered otherwise. The pairings don’t just complement the food—they elevate it, course after course. The space is intimate and stylish, the service polished yet relaxed. The staff is warm, intuitive, and incredibly well trained. And here’s the kicker: the value is nearly impossible to comprehend. This caliber of cuisine, service, and wine would be unattainable in the U.S.—not because it’s too expensive, but because this level of craft and hospitality simply doesn’t exist at any price. In Europe, it would cost four times as much. Azafrán is that rare dining experience where every element—food, wine, service, setting—aligns perfectly. If you’re in Mendoza, it’s not just a recommendation. It’s a must.
Adam R — Google review
I wanted this to be a 5 star review but I have to say that in comparison to other, more affordable, experiences, Azafran paled in comparison. The food in most cases is good, not great. While it’s beautifully presented, the flavors don’t come through in any special way. The pairings also lacked, and I frequently found myself unsure of why the wine had been selected. There were exceptions to all of this; the steak, which was paired with a beautiful Malbec from MAAL. But even though the steak was amazing, the accompanying vegetables were a total afterthought. The salad was really impeccable, as well.
Sam M — Google review
This was the best meal I had in Mendoza. The menu was inventive and every bite delicious. We were blown away by the meal and wine pairing. Extra kudos for them accommodating my gluten allergy.
Lauren R — Google review
Fantastic fine dinning experience in Mendoza. The food was refined and flavoursome, maybe not the most innovative but very enjoyable. The paring was outstanding, as expected in this part of the world. The place itself is good looking. Service was wonderful! Recommended

Farmers Markets
Mercado Central is a vibrant indoor market located in the heart of Mendoza. Since 1883, it has been a hub for an array of food items including meats, cheeses, spices, and local delicacies. The market features colorful butcher counters, produce vendors, hot-food stands, fish markets, cafes and more. It offers a variety of dining options from exquisite pizzas to local cuisine and classic coffee with tortita mendocina.
Mercado Central is a very varied and interesting shopping center, very reminiscent of Mercado Centrales we visited in Livorno and Firenze, Italy. There are fishmonger, butchers. Green grocers, arts and crafts vendors, artesanal kiosks, as well as cafes, bars and restaurants. We had some very good coffee at one of the cafes, my wife's cappucino had a layer of cream on the top and real chocolate sludge on the bottom. You could even get a personal paella in the Mercado Central. Highly recommended - there's something for everyone.
Joseph E — Google review
This is a great Mercado. It’s clean, orderly and safe. It’s more of a fine foods market than farmers market. A great place to great charcuterie and cheese, fresh meat and chicken, dried goods, sweets and wine. There are a couple of tasty places to eat lunch or dinner.
Jack A — Google review
We stopped in for a quick lunch and were treated to some delicious homemade food! We ordered the canelones stuffed with spinach and ricotta, topped with homemade tomato sauce and plenty of cheese. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, and reminded me of something my nonna used to make in her kitchen. The portion was generous, and the bread on the side was soft and perfect for dipping in the sauce. A simple, classic dish done really well!
John C — Google review
Small market but has plenty of produce and of good quality to choose from. Ideal if you’re looking for charcuterie items or you want condiments such as olives, pickles, fruit/ veg etc. There are coffee shops and snack food bars also if you’re looking for something to eat.

Argentinian restaurant
La Marchigiana Centro is an iconic restaurant in Mendoza, serving authentic Italian cuisine since 1950. The menu offers a wide selection of homemade pastas, meats, and seafood, accompanied by an extensive variety of local wines. The restaurant prides itself on impeccable service, a cozy atmosphere, and catering to special dietary needs. Originally founded by Nonna Fernanda, the tradition of delicious Italian food continues with her descendants in the kitchen.
Great Argentinian & Italian restaurant. We made a reservation (valentines weekend) but not sure if necessary during regular days. We ordered a bottle of wine, the recommended pasta dish and ojo de bife. Great flavor and portion sizes. As of Feb ‘25, spent about AR 60,000 total. Wait staff very kind and hospitable.

We had dinner at this location while visiting Mendoza. The service and atmosphere was excellent. And, the prices provided great value. While we enjoyed our asparagus appetizer, the lasagna main dish left us dissatisfied. It was rather bland and didn't have the flavor we expected from this establishment.
Matthew S — Google review
This restaurant is seriously great. We went AGAINST the recommendation of our hotel and came here. It’s obvious this restaurant just wasn’t tipping the local concierge, because this food is seriously great. The best steak we had in our week in Argentina. Who would’ve thought that would be at an Italian restaurant. The carbonara pasta was amazing also. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality. Good wine selection at good prices too. You should absolutely consider this restaurant for dinner if you are visiting Mendoza.

Great Italian food in Mendoza, even though I didn't have anything but salad and panacotta, the smell and the look of the dishes talked for themselves. After a couple of days in Mendoza, my stomach couldn't afford anything else.. Next time, for sure, I will try the most representative Italian dishes of La Marchigiana
Eric S — Google review
Simple but elegant ambiance. Great tasting food and menu offering. Servers had ample knowledge about the plates and offered a professional and relatively quick service. Appetizer and main dish are the forte as dessert was ok, nothing special.
Jorge G — Google review
Beautiful Italian food with a home cooked feel. Wonderful wine list and great service . More on the expensive side but worth it. Wear your loose pants :) And apparently according to the photo i found , Gwyneth Paltro and Brad Pitt ate there too.
Ryan M — Google review
The restaurant had a great ambiance and great wine but the food lacked in flavor. Maybe it was over hyped by the amount of reviews. We had the octopus and caprese salad for a starter. The octopus was delicious the caprese was mediocre. The basil was small and withered and the tomatoes weren’t great. For dinner we had the house made pasta trio and a filet with peppercorn sauce. The pasta dish wasn’t good. The steak was good but not great. The service was very great. Really wanted to like it.
Anthony F — Google review
The best restaurant I've found in Mendoza. Place is fancy, and food is not only incredibly tasty, but also plates are big. And when I say big, I mean really big, like having a hard time finishing the plate. I ordered a pasta with a weird name filled with "Goat in Cabernet whine cooked for 16 hours at low temperatures"... 16 hours! I know it is probably a lie, but it was the best wine goat filling I ever ateon my life. Pastas are their specially, but you can order other stuff. Place is not expensive, only slightly higher than a McDonald's. Unless you drink some fancy whine that is... Dessert is awesome, I tried their tiramisu and it was great. Totally recommend this place. Be sure to either go early (12:00) or ask for a reservation. After 13-ish you'll have to wait for a table.

If you're looking for a taste of authentic Argentine cuisine with a gourmet twist, Fuente y Fonda is the place to be. Located on Montevideo, this restaurant specializes in serving up generous family-sized Argentine dishes such as milanesas and hearty pasta dishes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, setting the scene for a traditional Mendocino family dinner. The wine list offers a variety of reasonably priced local options to complement your meal.
Wonderful intimate dining experience. We dined early for Argentina (8P), I would recommend make a reservation. Patrons definitely increased between 830-900P. They will confirm dishes are tailored for two but 3-4 is easily possible. Great wine list at amazing prices, also house wine Thanks Marcos and team for a wonderful dinner and experience we will be back!

It was a very beautiful setting. • 🛎️ EXTRAS: • WiFi/Bathrooms: The Wi-Fi was fine, and the bathrooms were gender-neutral with charming antique details. • 💡 FINAL VERDICT • ✔ Strong points: The delicious food with generous portions, the attentive service from Camila, and the charming, unique atmosphere. • ❌ What to improve: Nothing to improve. • 🌟 Secret tip: Don't miss the opportunity to see the beautifully decorated bathrooms!

This is not your average Argentine restaurant. The dishes might or not contain meat. Some are served family style. How about home made pasta with vegetables in cream. We loved it! They serve a wide variety of deserts as well. We sure didn't expect to see bread pudding on the menu. On the plus side all the service staff was female. The dinner was a good value as well for Argentina these days.

Cozy, comfortable dining spaces, especially the covered outdoor patio. The menu offers a good selection of starters and entrees. The papa tortilla Espanola was made fresh and cooked to perfection. Entrees are huge portions. Saw one family of four dine on a single order of Canelonni. Be prepared to share orders with two or more persons. Loved everything about F y F. ,ate there all three days of our stay in Mendoza.

Absolutely incredible Christmas Eve dinner here! We had an insane set menu that was so much food, we ended up taking a ton home! We had a lovely meal yesterday. Make sure you are hungry because the portions are huge and comes with complementary dessert. Main course is always for two to share.
