Water closet is not that clean but enougt for you if you want to urinate or wash your body.
Iconic beach walk in Balikpapan. It's a perfect place for leisurely walking, sightseeing, or trying many Indonesian street foods. It's so calming and tranquil. At night it's also an iconic place to mingle with friends and family, especially on weekends. There are many street food vendors at night.
A good beach to spend ur leisure time. Unfortunatelly, we have to buy some ticket to enjoy the place & it's not worth.
There's no sand that can be enjoyed, actually it isn't really a beach. Many food vendors on the side of the road, giving many choices to enjoy the sunset while eating.
If you want to find many various foods like a siomay , batagor , bakso , mie ayam , etc. There is the best place. Have fun! Better you come here when sunset or night..

you can find street food, restaurant, beach, beautiful sunset with beach background, and this is enough to enjoy yourself with or without companion but not so many parking lot available so you need to be tricky to get one especially for car.

Consist of 4 large field, and the main field is called "lapangan dua", when the ceremony or event held. These field are crowded especially in weekend, either morning or evening. Lot of hawker stall is offer street food. Populer for its sunday morning car freeday. During the night is also crowded when youngster hangout near the field along the way to coastline called melawai.
Anything you could do here, gathering with some friends, community, jogging, playing football, volleyball, eating some streetfoods, or just enjoying the situation. One of street photography and human interest photography spot where many kind of people gather and do many kind of activities. The morning and the afternoon in the weekend would be the best day to enjoy those situation.
The field is the most favorite spot for people around the city to spend their sunday morning. There were various street food and several games for children.

It's one of field sports (field athletics) in Balikpapan. The owner of this field is Pertamina (Indonesian Oil Company). It's also the place for Balikpapan Anniversaries, for Independence Day Ceremony etc

Super clean, clear. Not sure you can swim or not. I didn’t see any instructions yet I saw some people swim at the time.

Very disappointed to visit Kemala beach. It is sad the see the such a nice beach in bad shape. There are two drains directly going in the sea and beach is so dirty. People have thrown all kinds of stuff. The city is clean but beach is dirty. Will not recommend.
There are no shops. Yes you can find couple of restaurants.
First of all, this beach is average beach, not too big, just as usual beach. The wave also not too high. Not a good place to surf, but a good place to bring your kids here. The price is also not too expensive (but charged for how many people inside your car and also your car is charged). The parking space is big though, around 20 cars could fit inside.
This place is pretty much very cool to chill and relaxed 😎 Very easy to find, you can grab any online taxi from here. They have nice beach and not very crowded. I like that in the middle of the city you can escape and find this beautiful view.
It's easy to access the beach because it's located close to the city center. Location wasn't too clean. A small fee was required to enter the area. Many people spend time in the evening.
Very nice sand beach that is very clean and has the perfect vibes with palms all along the border. Water is super warm and I can highly recommend to jump in for a quick dip

The beach is beyond dirty. But if you could overlook plastic junk everywhere and empty beer bottles and glass shards in more remote areas of the beach, it is an okay beach.

one of my favorite grand mosques in Balikpapan that located at the central of the city area. Has three floors: the first is basement/multipurpose hall and supporting facilities. Second floor is the main floor for a large prayer room. Third floor is for educational activities such as kindergarten/religious school (TPA) and additional capacity for jamaah.

I like to be here whenever i do transit on my travek, located in busy area and its nice to pray here, the wudhu part are separated between females and males which makes comfy, the most important is its clean enough and organized

One of good place for you to find some open space in the middle of crowded Balikpapan city. The park is not too wide, but it is enough for you to take a walk, run, jog, or only for you to just sit and enjoy the surrounding. Taman bekapai...a small green area in the city of Balikpapan. Yet at night this place lives for street food. you can find many local food and a nice environment to bring your family and kids just to enjoy the small park or sitting together eating. This location is also in a walking distance from Ibis hotel if you are a traveler. Come here with my family . Was suprised they have exotic fish on their menu. And a bit annoyed with the price list as they don't put the exact price on menu so must be asking the staffs. Overall food was ok but the cumi bakar is not that well done and plain.

The highlight was the ikan kerapu bakar parape, a grilled grouper topped with a rich, tangy parape sauce—a Makassar-style blend of shallots, tamarind, and sweet soy sauce. This restaurant is overlooking the sea with its own terrace providing a great view over the bay. The menu is absolutely huge and features sea food as well as a large selection of Indonesian and international dishes. Pricing is more in the upper category for sea food but quality is indeed very high and the food tasty.
Very good restaurants in Balikpapan. They have good seating arrangement, indoor-outdoor, gazebo and you can enjoy sunset with windy breeze wind. You can pick the seafood yourself, fresh and they will cooked it immediately. The food was good (not the best seafood though-IMO). The services was excellent, fast and kind staffs. The cleanliness was excellent, big parking lot also. Pricey. From those combination I give 4 stars for this restaurant.
What I love about this place is because we can enjoy the sea view while eating our food. Some part of the restaurants are literally above the sea. Food is nice but you need to be ready to pay of course. It’s expensive but worth it. Many foreigners come here to eat or just drink and enjoy the sunset. So, dinner under a moon and stars with a sea view is possible at this restaurant.

In addition to main courses, the restaurant also serves pastries and cakes, making it a one-stop solution for various preferences. The place is popular among locals for its Asian and Indonesian cuisine as well as coffee options.
I recently visited DECAFE Resto, Pastry & Bakery in Balikpapan and had a really satisfying meal. I started with their sop buntut sapi (oxtail soup), which was fantastic. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a nice balance of spices that made every sip comforting. The oxtail meat was tender and juicy, falling off the bone easily, just perfect for soup lovers.
Next, I tried their bubur ikan (fish porridge). It was smooth and creamy, with delicate fish flakes mixed in. The flavors were mild but comforting, making it a great choice if you want something lighter or soothing.
The highlight for me was the fried mantau with sapi lada hitam — fried mantau buns paired with black pepper beef. The mantau were crispy on the outside but soft inside, and the beef was cooked well with a flavorful, slightly spicy black pepper sauce that gave it a nice kick without being overpowering. It was a perfect combo that kept me coming back for more.
The vibe of the place is warm and cozy, with friendly staff who make you feel welcome. Overall, a solid spot to enjoy a mix of hearty and light dishes with great flavors.

De café brings back nostalgic memories of my school days in the oil city. I’m really glad to see that it’s still around, now with a fresh and more homey look. I returned to my hometown in February and had lunch here—pleasantly surprised to find many updated menu items at more affordable prices. I need to give 5 stars. When I ordered I forgot to mention I can’t have spicy so I ended up not being able to eat my food. The owner came to check how my food was and gave me something else instead which was soo good. The curry was so tasty. He also let me try some of his fried tempeh which was also very nice!

There was a nice place to hang out with friends & having dinner. The food were good. The Nasi goreng kambing(lamb) was great. I recommend this menu. The Wedang jahe was also great. The ambience was so nice . The price was ok. The only problem was the music from the beside restaurant was so laud, so it was not good for chatting.

Bebek Goreng H. Slamet (Bhayangkara) is my favorite restaurant since I moved to this town. They serve delicious duck dishes that are always enjoyable. The prices are affordable and the establishment is clean. The staff members are friendly and the atmosphere is peaceful. The location of the restaurant is convenient as it is close to the main road but relatively quiet.

Bebek Slamet has earned a good reputation in Balikpapan for a reliable fried duck restaurant. Unfortunately, I came in a wrong time when everything was sold out. Perhaps in the future, they will adding more ducks for their hungry customers.
The cheapest fried duck in Balikpapan, in my opinion, it's also really good about taste. instead of night yeah guys. keep it closed at night. you who are pregnant want duck menu this is a recommendation for you guys ☺️

Apong Seafood in Balikpapan is a bit expensive, but it's worth it considering their delicious food and great service. It's considered the best crab restaurant in town because of its amazing taste, texture, and presentation. They also offer top-rated BBQ fish with a variety of fresh and tasty sambal options like sambal terasi, papetere, matah, and mango salsa.
The store was clean and tidy.
It seems like a good place to have a meeting since there is a room.

Been here twice, taste good consistently. Good for group/family dining. Served seafood, chicken and veggies. Kangkung hotplate is really good, portion is big and not expensive. A bit pricey but it is understandable since you would have to pay for their excellent food taste and courteous service. For us, this is the best crab restaurant in Balikpapan in term of the taste, texture, and presentation. Their BBQ-ed fish is also top rated, choice of sambal from sambal terasi, papetere, matah, to mango salsa were fresh and delicious, were perfect complement for the grilled fish.
We can order take away crab menu for travelling with plane, hence they will prepare it and place the food inside a thermal plastic jar. No other crab restaurants in Balikpapan do the same.
A Good Local Seafood Restaurant in Balikpapan
Whether you're on holiday or on a business trip, this a good place to stop by for a local seafood feast.
The Boxfish Nuggets is one of their specialities. Boxfish flesh is cut into bite sized pieces and battered then deep fried. It's seasoned well enough so dipping sauce is not required.
The other things were the grilled squid which was cooked to perfection. The flesh was thick, tender and had a nice smokey char. The local mussels cooked in spicy sauce were plump and flavourful.
They have many other seafood available, so it's good to see what is available in the ice boxes before ordering.
While the price of food here might not break the bank, it cannot be said this this place is cheap, it is a comfortable place to enjoy quality fresh local sea produce.

It's not really a "veggie market", but more like a souvenir and craft market. Prices are decent, and you can bargain a bit too. The place gets pretty warm and a bit crowded, so it's better to come earlier in the day. Most vendors take cash, so bring enough.

The location of the Kebun Sayur Market is on Jalan Letjen Soeprapto, Balikpapan. Hundreds of traders open shanties here. They offer various types of agate for jewelry such as: rings, rings, earrings. Here there are also many kinds of tempting multicolored stone necklaces.
If you like diamond jewelry, you can also find it here. These diamonds come from Africa and Sri Lanka, among others. Well, the price? Buy jewelry at the Kebun Sayur Market, prices are negotiable. However, the price of diamonds is still determined based on the quality and carat of the diamond.
Various typical Dayak trinkets are also available at the Kebun Sayur Market. Jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets with Dayak motifs, clothes and bags can be bought for souvenirs in this market.
In addition there are also sold mandau which are typical Dayak weapons, also typical Kalimantan mats, as well as many unique and interesting items offered in this market.
Tips for those of you who want to buy beaded necklaces, first ask the type of stone and be sure to buy a necklace that does not fade in color, because there are several types of stones that are given an additional color to make it more attractive but it turns out the quality is not good. Usually if asked, the merchant will tell and choose jewelry with better quality.

Nobody seems to knows what "Bondy" means. Overall, the restaurant served quality and fresh food. Good for family or to treat guests. Spacey and beautiful dining area but can be very warm in a day time especially at the open space area. The bakery shop is part of the restaurant, located just at the entrance.

We ordered various of foods here and satisfied that they were well served. For taste, it was attractive to our hunger and what we could not believe is they could present the foods in well manner of time. My favourite? Fried prawns with salted egg sauce.
Apart from the above, the price would be fit for middle class and above.
The place is located at downtown of Baikpapan. It has a bakery store at the front, and the restaurant behind it. The restaurant is spacious and clean, we had a team dinner at 2nd floor.
The food is nice, we ordered satay (which is large), grilled squids, salad, fried rice, fishes, etc. All is nice.

Monpera Beach, also known as People's Struggle Monument, stands as a symbol of the people's bravery during Indonesia's fight for independence. Situated on Jl., it is part of Balikpapan's historical tour that includes Manggar Beach, Kemala Beach, and Melawai Beach. The beach area is spacious and conveniently located near downtown with an affordable entrance fee of Rp. 5000.
I was here to visit Dino park, I used Grabcar so I don't know how much for a parking ticket, it was raining in the middle of the trip so I backed sooner than I expected. Can't say much about anything else because I don't have time to explore the beach.

İt's really nice. Water is super warm. But there is a lot of trash including some broken glass when we went and lots of coral so walking with shoes is a good idea. Low tide is usually around afternoon it's a pretty far walk from the shore to the water at that time. i was told early morning and evening around 4pm is usually high tide good for swimming closer to the shore. Non the less we had a good time at beach. Good idea to bring sun lotion!!!!!
Came here for the event FUN RUN 5K from PRODIA BALIKPAPAN.
They have a big yard to do the event, and the beach just right there. Maybe around 10 metre from the stage. Its free parking, but I have to pay around 10k, maybe because of the event. Located near central city recommended if you want to doing some outdoor activity. A lot of ppl passing by either morning or evening.
Nothing's special about this place, just a monument. And sadly, this place has a bad maintenance. It's nearby the beach, and the beach was full of garbage

nice view, it has few clean public toilets and spacious parking lot, pay ticket only 2k for 2 vehicle and 5k for 4 vehicle, so cheap but the park is less maintenance which some floor is peel off and the Perjuangan Statue is collapsed.

I should say, Balikpapan will never fail to bring seafood on your plate, and one of my favorites family resto is Torani.
They serve fresh seafood, from fish to the famous crab.
Try their grilled fish with sweet soy sauce (ikan bakar kecap), a simple sauce yet delicious. And, don't forget their saute water spinach (tumis kangkung) as side dish and mango chili sauce as a kick of spiciness! Bomb in your mouth!
Some improvement might be needed to serving time (esp during rush hour) and beverages.

When my husband's family came from Europe, we took them here for lunch. They tried nasi goreng (fried rice), sate ayam (chicken satay) and whatnot. They loved it. The food, the view of the sea. We walked by the water too and saw some tiny crabs coming out of the sands.
When my Australian family visited, we took them here too, for dinner. Great breeze from the Balikpapan sea, nice cold Bintang beer, nice food, but also rats greeting us 🤣 - we were at the outdoor seating, so we could hear the waves. It was nice. Rats were just a bonus for our giggles, they didn't bother us, just passing through 😉

One of the best seafood places you can find in Balikpapan. It is fresh, dense, firm, aromatic, grilled to perfection, and paired with warm rice, warm soup, and arguably one of the best sambal in the world.
Atmosphere is very homey and cozy, everyone was calling everyone "sayang" and laughter was around every corner, from both the staff and the customers filled with satisfaction.
Service was great for the most part, though some of the staff spoke with too little volume and some had intimidating faces, though nothing that made the experience that much worse or even bad.

Was here for breakfast with a friend and we had bubur ikan (fish porridge). Taste was good and presented in a very ordinary type of other porridge. A plus credit for fresh porridge and fish. Other than that you may find option for your breakfast like nasi kuning, bubur manado, soto banjar and some other local fresh newly cooked feom their oven and pan. The place was crowded in the morning and hot. Be prepare for sweat honey. One other thing that this place uniquely gives that time, the cici owner of this place was so active and repeatedly gives order to her employees with a bold loud voice.

First time to Balikpapan. Local driver recommended this place for good seafood. Ordered Chef recommended Fu Yung Kepiting, Nasi Goreng Special, and Chicken Tenders. Love the Fu Yung Kepiting - the sauce is good! Wanted to try their female crab or udang gala, but they ran out of both at lunch time!
Side note: The toilet in this place is clean. There’s wifi, but you have to ask for it. There’s service charge at the end.

A nice place for sunset vibes
Actually Kampung atas Air Margasari is a very wide place because it is a village that built on the water. The most visited place maybe the wooden bridge which is facing the sea. You can sit on the edge of that bridge, looking to the blue sky and the sea and there will an infinite fire spark from the oil refinery torch. I'm amazed when seeing people treat the wooden bridge like it is a solid bridge because motorcycles are going back and forth on it (even I saw boys played football there!). I think sunset is the best time to visit, you can't resist to take some pictures.

You can bring your own food to come in, but remember, you're not allowed bring it during swimming or around the pool. The place also instagramable for who love photography. Yesterday I visited this place (3 july2018), there were many visitors coming here, mostly kids with their parents. Some others were teenagers. I did not buy any entrance ticket, however, I guess this place is so much fun. It is good to splash water in the hot city like Balikpapan.

Cheap and lively local tours. If you're lucky, you might see proboscis monkeys "Bekantan" and crocodiles. The best times to visit are early morning and late afternoon. Don't forget to bring sunglasses and bananas for feeding the monkeys

Great place! You can do go show without prior reservation if coming in small groups. 300k IDR for a 1 hour boat ride around their mangrove ecosystem (max 4-5 people per boat). The trip was great, we got to appreciate the healthy mangrove ecosystem, see some proboscis monkeys, and crocodiles! Guide is helpful and knowledgable. Toilet is decent enough.
Its nice to refresh your mind from the crowd of the city. If you’re lucky you can see the Bekantan. I came here when the weather was nice, not too sunny.

Great experience. We had a student from East-Timor along that works there, who spoke English very well. Saw monkeys in the trees. One crocodile (/cayman?), that went under a bit too soon to properly see (the sound of the boat's engine scares them). Best is come really early or late in the afternoon, because the water is higher then, allowing the boat to get between the mangrove trees, where it's mud instead if you come at another time in between. This is an affordable event for everyone looking to see monkeys with the long nose that live here. It's said there are also black monkeys, but we didn't see those this time.
Very nice bot ride offered at 300k IDR. You might not see the proboscis monkeys but will still enjoy a nice and relaxing boat ride through the mangrove out into the river.
For best monkey viewing come early in the morning or late afternoon, they don’t enjoy the heat.

Bruneian tourist here and I came here with my wife. Ordered a good selection of crab, squid and prawn.
Liked the steamed prawn, it was fresh and prawn was chewy. Goes well with the lime and chili sauce.
Ordered the squid in their special sauce which is actually sweet asam sauce. Squid was fresh and portion good for us both. Sauce was good but a little too sweet for my liking. It was average.
Then the crab, we felt the crab could have been better. A little overcooked and the meat just sticks to the shell. Took a lot of effort to extract the meat and it was time consuming. Had a similar crab at Ocean’s, it was better there but a bit more expensive.
I felt this place was overrated. It did not leave up to the hype and would be g somewhere else for a good crab.

If you like crab dishes you have to check out this place. Balikpapan seems to be famous for its fresh seafood and this selection of fresh softshell crab, fried crab and crab fried rice was irresistible. Given the generous size of the portions the price is very reasonable.
The food had a plenty of taste with best quality of fresh seafood, however Kenari should had treat the water in toilet, seem not filtered, for me its not recomended to using toilet
Driver brought us to this restaurant which apparently President Jokowi and Prabowo ate at. The special assam manis sauce was in the prawn ( udang) dish. It was tasty. Fresh prawns and good sized. The crab was black pepper swimming in a dark sweetish sauce. I didn’t like it as it was not as spicy as expected and too ‘wet’. The battered squid(sotong)was ok. So was chap chye ( mixed veg of the day). The Mee goreng was basically that - fried indo mee with bits of chicken meat & veg. Boring. There’s fish and chicken as well but didn’t try.

Very spacious place with very spacious parking area. You can still maintain the distance here. No air conditioning which is good in this pandemic COVID-19 era. Food and beverages are 6/10. Really good food. Kepiting Asap was really delicious. Big portion too, can fed 4 people. The place was just beside the beach so we can directly see the sea. Downside is there's lots of wind and sometimes sea water splash out to the table if you choose the table nearest the beach.

Food was okay, the place was amazing. However, their service was a bit of let down 😔 The lady who took our order was an amazing person, she knew the product well and served us great. But there was this younger lady with long hair who shown a bit of negligence.
There was this one table with a strategic view of the sea left messy because of the previous customer. I asked to her whether the table is available and have the table cleaned for us, and she answered, “Meja nya masih dipake,” yet she didn’t bother to check the bill of the prev cust or asked her colleagues whether the table is available or not.
We waited for a few moment and checked on the table again to see if there’re any belongings of the prev cust and we found none, so I checked again with the other waiter, which is the lady who served us great. She checked with her colleague, checked the computer, and gave us a clear sign that the table is available for us.

this place sells seafood dishes. most of the menu are not suitable for individual portion. it's meant for a group gathering. the food is good, but it's too overpriced. it's very expensive. a portion of smoked crab costs more than a 500k rupiah. it's cooked with black pepper, but i can't really taste the smoky flavor from the meat. a large fish soup can cost over than 500k rupiah too.
this place is located on the beach. you can see and hear the ocean splashes. you can see the dining plates hand signed by the politicians. maybe that's why this place is expensive. it's a staple for the politicians who are visiting this city.

Glad to sit in waiting order menu in this restaurant. The famous is Soto Banjar and Ice Campur. And also another cake and beverages menu another. Parking space is limited available. Hygiene and clean hospitality. The best time to come is lunch time until 3:00pm.

According to the locals in Balikpapan, this is one of the best food stalls in the city, especially known for its Soto Banjar. I went there around a year ago and ordered the Soto Banjar — I found it quite delicious. I also ordered the Es Campur, which was also tasty. I had the cream puff (kue sus) too — it was pretty good.
First of all, this place is not too big, i think its medium sized, only can fit less than 50 people inside. But, the taste of the foods are great, especially es campur and soto banjar. Loved it. Its kinda cheap also (around 20k), and its worth it i think. There is also a cake called kue sus, it tastes great. I loved it also. The parking space is kinda small though (only could fit 3 cars, and the other cars should park on the side of the street). Well, thats it. Anyone have vacation to balikpapan? This one is a must try. My fav is the Es Campur. Since I was in elementary school (SD), Es Campur Cenderawasih always been on my meals to-go lists when it comes to drinks/desserts, so that I often make takeway order here. Other menus are great (including the famous Soto Banjar) too! And of course the eccentric architecture of this place, (it preserve the form of old typical Balikpapan building) makes this resto a legend.
The most delicious soto banjar in town! If you’re happen to be around, you should give this a shot. Always been my favorite since 2000! Es kacang and marmer cake are definitely a marvelous sidekick for the main course.

Soto banjar was nice, big enough portion. I also love the marmer cake. And when you look for es campur, this is the place. We spent 127.000 for two persons (2 soto banjar, 2 es, 2 cakes).
So if you happened to visit Balikpapan and want to have several local culinary, you can try Depot Cendrawasih too. This place provided many kind of local culinary (Balikpapan, Samarinda also Banjarmasin). I tried their Soto Banjar, and I think it is quite good to eat this kind of menu for breakfast. This place also has wuite spacious parking area. Please try when you visit Balikpapan.
