Melawai Beach

Melawai Beach, located along Sudirman street in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, is a bustling urban beach popular among locals and tourists alike. It offers a variety of activities such as enjoying street food, witnessing scenic sunsets, and engaging in recreational activities. The beach is known for its panoramic sunset views and is a favorite spot for relaxation and socializing. Visitors can find numerous cafes with beautiful sea-shore views to enjoy the evening breeze.
Sunset its very nice ...and if you come afternoon about 3 pm you can walk to this island .

This coastal spot earns a solid 4-star rating by offering a different take on the beach experience. While not a traditional swimming beach, it excels as a seaside promenade with its own unique charm. The area's strength lies in its development as a waterfront dining destination. The variety of food options along the promenade adds significant value to the visitor experience, creating a pleasant spot for casual meals with ocean views. While visitors shouldn't expect the typical beach activities like swimming or sunbathing, the location provides an enjoyable setting for strolling and dining by the water. The focus here is more on social and culinary experiences than traditional beach activities. The combination of coastal views and dining options makes it an appealing destination for those seeking a relaxed waterfront atmosphere. It's best approached as a recreational area rather than a swimming beach. For visitors understanding its true nature as a beachfront promenade rather than a swimming destination, Melawai Beach offers a pleasant coastal experience with good amenities and dining options.

Its family beach. If looking for music or glamourous beach entertaiment, its not the right place. There a food tenand, but the waiters is... not quiet welconing. You need to bring your own food and drink after ordering. The entering ticket will cost you Rp15,000,-/person. There's a bean pillow to be lend with Rp25,000,-/person. Water closet is not that clean but enougt for you if you want to urinate or wash your body.

Iconic beach walk in Balikpapan. It's a perfect place for leisurely walking, sightseeing, or trying many Indonesian street foods. It's so calming and tranquil. At night it's also an iconic place to mingle with friends and family, especially on weekends. There are many street food vendors at night.

A good beach to spend ur leisure time. Unfortunatelly, we have to buy some ticket to enjoy the place & it's not worth.

There's no sand that can be enjoyed, actually it isn't really a beach. Many food vendors on the side of the road, giving many choices to enjoy the sunset while eating.

Kemala Beach is a charming city beach located near the Perjuangan Monument and Benua Patra Beach in East Kalimantan, Borneo. It offers a picturesque sandy white coastline with sweeping sea views. Visitors can take in the stunning sunset while enjoying the sound of ocean breeze and exploring nearby attractions like Melwai Beach and Manggar Segarsari Beach.
Entrance fee : 10k/ person. Parking car : 5k/car Beautiful beach nearby touristic area in the heart of Balikpapan. Super clean, clear. Not sure you can swim or not. I didn’t see any instructions yet I saw some people swim at the time. Unfortunately the day when I visited, was too cloudy. But perfect for some chill day.
Bonjour M — Google review
May 2024 2* Very disappointed to visit Kemala beach. It is sad the see the such a nice beach in bad shape. There are two drains directly going in the sea and beach is so dirty. People have thrown all kinds of stuff. The city is clean but beach is dirty. Will not recommend. There are no shops. Yes you can find couple of restaurants.
Jaspal S — Google review
First of all, this beach is average beach, not too big, just as usual beach. The wave also not too high. Not a good place to surf, but a good place to bring your kids here. The price is also not too expensive (but charged for how many people inside your car and also your car is charged). The parking space is big though, around 20 cars could fit inside.
Kealso — Google review
This place is pretty much very cool to chill and relaxed 😎 Very easy to find, you can grab any online taxi from here. They have nice beach and not very crowded. I like that in the middle of the city you can escape and find this beautiful view.

It's easy to access the beach because it's located close to the city center. Location wasn't too clean. A small fee was required to enter the area. Many people spend time in the evening.

Very nice sand beach that is very clean and has the perfect vibes with palms all along the border. Water is super warm and I can highly recommend to jump in for a quick dip

Good place for refreshing. But the drink’s price is a little bit expensive. 50.500 rupiah for 2 coconuts The entrance ticket is only 5.000 rupiah

The beach is beyond dirty. But if you could overlook plastic junk everywhere and empty beer bottles and glass shards in more remote areas of the beach, it is an okay beach.

Masjid Agung At-Taqwa Balikpapan is a significant religious and tourist destination in Indonesia. It stands as an iconic symbol of the city, offering a clean and well-managed space for worship and Islamic activities. Situated near major offices and Klandasan Market, it is conveniently located for locals and tourists alike. The mosque's strategic location makes it accessible to visitors who can also explore the nearby market before or after prayers.
The best place for praying in this town
Puji I — Google review
one of my favorite grand mosques in Balikpapan that located at the central of the city area. Has three floors: the first is basement/multipurpose hall and supporting facilities. Second floor is the main floor for a large prayer room. Third floor is for educational activities such as kindergarten/religious school (TPA) and additional capacity for jamaah.
Nova W — Google review
The grandeur and beauty of a mosque in Indonesia keeps its own secrets. In addition to being a place of worship, the mosque has also functioned as a religious tourism destination. Not only that, because of its uniqueness, the mosque is also an icon for a city. Like this mosque. It's called the At-Taqwa Grand Mosque in Balikpapan City. Located on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman number 6, Klandasan Ulu Village, South Balikpapan District, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan, this mosque is not far from the City Hall. It is located parallel to Taman Bekupai, this mosque is the grandest and largest city in the city nicknamed Madinatul Iman. Taman Bekapai is a well-liked meeting point with abundant trees, showcasing a large metallic fountain that illuminates after dusk. It serves as an ideal destination within the bustling city of Balikpapan, providing ample open space for strolling, running, jogging, or simply relaxing and appreciating the environment. When evening falls, various food vendors set up shop in the vicinity of the park.
One of good place for you to find some open space in the middle of crowded Balikpapan city. The park is not too wide, but it is enough for you to take a walk, run, jog, or only for you to just sit and enjoy the surrounding. At night, you can find several food stalls open at the surrounding of the park

Comfortable space for relaxing, exercise, eating, or just hanging out. Plenty of seating in the park itself and more behind the park with various stalls selling dishes. Some facilities looks visibly breaking down and some just not working, but nothing detrimental or significant just nitpicks.

Seafood restaurant
Ocean's Resto Balikpapan is a romantic restaurant located by the beach, offering stunning views and a cozy outdoor setting. It is recommended to visit in the evening for a more comfortable experience due to the intense daytime heat. The restaurant is easily accessible from Balikpapan International Airport, making it a convenient spot for travelers. With its characteristic direct view of the sea, Ocean's Resto offers a unique seafood menu that sets it apart from other dining spots in Balikpapan.
Wide range of fresh seafood. We ordered an assortment of fish cooked in different styles. Managed to get a seat by the seaside. Food was delicious and service was great. Will be back
Andy — Google review
Come here with my family . Was suprised they have exotic fish on their menu. And a bit annoyed with the price list as they don't put the exact price on menu so must be asking the staffs. Overall food was ok but the cumi bakar is not that well done and plain.
Flourence R — Google review
I recently dined at Ocean Signature in Balikpapan and had a delightful experience. The highlight was the ikan kerapu bakar parape, a grilled grouper topped with a rich, tangy parape sauce—a Makassar-style blend of shallots, tamarind, and sweet soy sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful, making each bite a treat. Next, I tried the fried sotong (fried squid), which was crispy on the outside and tender inside. It was lightly seasoned, allowing the natural sweetness of the squid to shine through. A simple yet satisfying dish. The sweet sour chicken was another standout. The chicken pieces were crispy and coated in a vibrant, tangy sauce with just the right balance of sweetness and acidity. It paired wonderfully with steamed rice. The ambiance at Ocean Signature is cozy and welcoming, with friendly staff and prompt service. The restaurant offers a variety of seafood and Indonesian dishes, all prepared with fresh ingredients. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it's a great spot to enjoy authentic flavors in a relaxed setting.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ocean's Resto in Balikpapan, and it was truly a delightful experience. The restaurant offers a comfortable atmosphere right by the sea, boasting stunning views that make it an ideal spot for both family gatherings and business meetings. The food is plentiful, well-suited for a hearty meal. A special shoutout goes to the Padang sauce crab — it was delicious, perfectly spiced, and a highlight of our meal. Whether you're here to unwind or to discuss business, Ocean's Resto provides a great backdrop for any occasion.
Emil I — Google review
This restaurant is overlooking the sea with its own terrace providing a great view over the bay. The menu is absolutely huge and features sea food as well as a large selection of Indonesian and international dishes. Pricing is more in the upper category for sea food but quality is indeed very high and the food tasty.
Rene P — Google review
Very good restaurants in Balikpapan. They have good seating arrangement, indoor-outdoor, gazebo and you can enjoy sunset with windy breeze wind. You can pick the seafood yourself, fresh and they will cooked it immediately. The food was good (not the best seafood though-IMO). The services was excellent, fast and kind staffs. The cleanliness was excellent, big parking lot also. Pricey. From those combination I give 4 stars for this restaurant.
Arief P — Google review
What I love about this place is because we can enjoy the sea view while eating our food. Some part of the restaurants are literally above the sea. Food is nice but you need to be ready to pay of course. It’s expensive but worth it. Many foreigners come here to eat or just drink and enjoy the sunset. So, dinner under a moon and stars with a sea view is possible at this restaurant.
Cristina H — Google review
Ocean's Resto Balikpapan's Seafood is a delicacy enjoyed by people and tourists in Balikpapan and it's not hard to see why. With so many choices like crab, lobster, shrimp, and fish, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The taste of seafood is highly dependent on the freshness of the ingredients, the cooking method, and the seasoning. Fresh seafood has a sweet, subtle flavor that showcases the natural taste of the ocean. When cooked properly, seafood can be tender and moist with a slightly firm texture. There are plenty of ways to prepare seafood, from grilled and baked to fried and boiled. Each method has its own unique taste and texture, but some cooking styles can mask the natural flavor of the seafood. Using a light hand with seasoning and not overcooking the seafood is key to a successful dish. What really sets seafood apart from other types of dishes is the nutritional benefits. Seafood is high in protein, minerals, and vitamins, making it a healthy option for any meal. Overall, seafood is a delicious and healthy option that is enjoyed by many people around the world. With so many choices and cooking methods available, it's easy to see why it's such a popular food choice. The food is delicious and good. I highly recommend this place. Two Thumbs Up 👍👍

Restaurant
DECAFE Resto, Pastry & Bakery Balikpapan is a highly recommended restaurant established in 2002 under the Blue Sky Group. It offers a spacious dining area for a great dining experience with family or friends. In addition to main courses, the restaurant also serves pastries and cakes, making it a one-stop solution for various preferences. The place is popular among locals for its Asian and Indonesian cuisine as well as coffee options.
I recently visited DECAFE Resto, Pastry & Bakery in Balikpapan and had a really satisfying meal. I started with their sop buntut sapi (oxtail soup), which was fantastic. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a nice balance of spices that made every sip comforting. The oxtail meat was tender and juicy, falling off the bone easily, just perfect for soup lovers. Next, I tried their bubur ikan (fish porridge). It was smooth and creamy, with delicate fish flakes mixed in. The flavors were mild but comforting, making it a great choice if you want something lighter or soothing. The highlight for me was the fried mantau with sapi lada hitam — fried mantau buns paired with black pepper beef. The mantau were crispy on the outside but soft inside, and the beef was cooked well with a flavorful, slightly spicy black pepper sauce that gave it a nice kick without being overpowering. It was a perfect combo that kept me coming back for more. The vibe of the place is warm and cozy, with friendly staff who make you feel welcome. Overall, a solid spot to enjoy a mix of hearty and light dishes with great flavors.

Seafood restaurant
Apong Seafood in Balikpapan is a bit expensive, but it's worth it considering their delicious food and great service. It's considered the best crab restaurant in town because of its amazing taste, texture, and presentation. They also offer top-rated BBQ fish with a variety of fresh and tasty sambal options like sambal terasi, papetere, matah, and mango salsa.
The store was clean and tidy. It seems like a good place to have a meeting since there is a room. The staff are friendly. I was surprised that the food came out quickly, but it was all delicious. I really liked that I could see and choose the fresh seafood myself, and they cooked it the way I wanted.

The delicious taste of the place is also comfortable, unfortunately yesterday's fruit coconut is empty and there are some menus that are not available. The standard restaurant service in general good.

Been here twice, taste good consistently. Good for group/family dining. Served seafood, chicken and veggies. Kangkung hotplate is really good, portion is big and not expensive. Kepiting soka is also nice and crispy. Fried squid with salted egg tastes nice and the sauce is quite generous and tasty. Place is clean and spacious.
Mellisa A — Google review
Seafood here is the best in Balikpapan. I recommend to try their fish and fried squid. Great for lunch/dinner with friends or co workers.
Garry Y — Google review
A bit pricey but it is understandable since you would have to pay for their excellent food taste and courteous service. For us, this is the best crab restaurant in Balikpapan in term of the taste, texture, and presentation. Their BBQ-ed fish is also top rated, choice of sambal from sambal terasi, papetere, matah, to mango salsa were fresh and delicious, were perfect complement for the grilled fish. We can order take away crab menu for travelling with plane, hence they will prepare it and place the food inside a thermal plastic jar. No other crab restaurants in Balikpapan do the same.
Ahzone — Google review
A Good Local Seafood Restaurant in Balikpapan Whether you're on holiday or on a business trip, this a good place to stop by for a local seafood feast. The Boxfish Nuggets is one of their specialities. Boxfish flesh is cut into bite sized pieces and battered then deep fried. It's seasoned well enough so dipping sauce is not required. The other things were the grilled squid which was cooked to perfection. The flesh was thick, tender and had a nice smokey char. The local mussels cooked in spicy sauce were plump and flavourful. They have many other seafood available, so it's good to see what is available in the ice boxes before ordering. While the price of food here might not break the bank, it cannot be said this this place is cheap, it is a comfortable place to enjoy quality fresh local sea produce.

Day 2

Southeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the southeast side side of town. Start the day off with Pasar Inpres Kebun Sayur, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Balikpapan Islamic Center. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

If you're exploring Balikpapan, a visit to Pasar Inpres Kebun Sayur is an absolute must! This vibrant traditional market, also known as the Precious Stones Market, offers a delightful array of local produce and unique handicrafts. Located on Jalan Letjen Soeprapto, it buzzes with energy from hundreds of vendors showcasing everything from colorful agate jewelry to exquisite diamond pieces sourced from Africa and Sri Lanka.
Lovely place to shop for souvenirs & gift. Wide range of selection for fabrics, clothes and accessories with traditional and unique Dayak style.

The place for handicrafts like bracelets, necklaces, fabric, natural stones, woodcrafts, etc. As it is the nature with places like these, a lot of the places sell similar, or even identical, items so it may feel boring/monotonic at times. Don't forget to nego people.
Akmal I — Google review
Cool spot to check out if you're in Balikpapan. Pasar Inpres Kebun Sayur has tons of local souvenirs, gemstones, batik clothes, and snacks. It's not really a "veggie market", but more like a souvenir and craft market. Prices are decent, and you can bargain a bit too. The place gets pretty warm and a bit crowded, so it's better to come earlier in the day. Most vendors take cash, so bring enough.
Aurora — Google review
One of the go-to places if you wanna buy souvenirs from Balikpapan / Kalimantan Timur. Ranging from accessories, snacks, clothes, etc. I came here on Sunday and sadly not so many shops were open.

The location of the Kebun Sayur Market is on Jalan Letjen Soeprapto, Balikpapan. Hundreds of traders open shanties here. They offer various types of agate for jewelry such as: rings, rings, earrings. Here there are also many kinds of tempting multicolored stone necklaces. If you like diamond jewelry, you can also find it here. These diamonds come from Africa and Sri Lanka, among others. Well, the price? Buy jewelry at the Kebun Sayur Market, prices are negotiable. However, the price of diamonds is still determined based on the quality and carat of the diamond. Various typical Dayak trinkets are also available at the Kebun Sayur Market. Jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets with Dayak motifs, clothes and bags can be bought for souvenirs in this market. In addition there are also sold mandau which are typical Dayak weapons, also typical Kalimantan mats, as well as many unique and interesting items offered in this market. Tips for those of you who want to buy beaded necklaces, first ask the type of stone and be sure to buy a necklace that does not fade in color, because there are several types of stones that are given an additional color to make it more attractive but it turns out the quality is not good. Usually if asked, the merchant will tell and choose jewelry with better quality. Prices here are negotiable, so please negotiate with the merchant to get the item you want at the best price.

Monpera Beach, also known as People's Struggle Monument, stands as a symbol of the people's bravery during Indonesia's fight for independence. Situated on Jl., it is part of Balikpapan's historical tour that includes Manggar Beach, Kemala Beach, and Melawai Beach. The beach area is spacious and conveniently located near downtown with an affordable entrance fee of Rp. 5000.
I was here to visit Dino park, I used Grabcar so I don't know how much for a parking ticket, it was raining in the middle of the trip so I backed sooner than I expected. Can't say much about anything else because I don't have time to explore the beach.

İt's really nice. Water is super warm. But there is a lot of trash including some broken glass when we went and lots of coral so walking with shoes is a good idea. Low tide is usually around afternoon it's a pretty far walk from the shore to the water at that time. i was told early morning and evening around 4pm is usually high tide good for swimming closer to the shore. Non the less we had a good time at beach. Good idea to bring sun lotion!!!!!

Came here for the event FUN RUN 5K from PRODIA BALIKPAPAN. They have a big yard to do the event, and the beach just right there. Maybe around 10 metre from the stage. Its free parking, but I have to pay around 10k, maybe because of the event. Located near central city recommended if you want to doing some outdoor activity. A lot of ppl passing by either morning or evening.

Rumah Makan Torani MT Haryono Balikpapan is a popular seafood restaurant known for its diverse menu and affordable prices. It offers a wide range of seafood dishes prepared in various ways, with standout items like pepes kepiting (steamed crab wrapped in banana leaf) and bandeng tanpa duri (boneless pressure-cooked milkfish). The restaurant is well-regarded for its clean and allergy-friendly food, as attested by a customer's experience.
Good vibe, delicious foodies. It's a bit pricey for the drink menu. They have 2 types of drink. First, the menu was served by the cafe in front of the torani (near entry gate). They sell coffee and non coffee drink. Second, the menu inside torani book menu. They sell regular drink (i.e. mineral water, ice tea, juice, etc) Can't say a word for the food because It's so delicious 😋 Recommend for family or group dinner.

I should say, Balikpapan will never fail to bring seafood on your plate, and one of my favorites family resto is Torani. They serve fresh seafood, from fish to the famous crab. Try their grilled fish with sweet soy sauce (ikan bakar kecap), a simple sauce yet delicious. And, don't forget their saute water spinach (tumis kangkung) as side dish and mango chili sauce as a kick of spiciness! Bomb in your mouth! Some improvement might be needed to serving time (esp during rush hour) and beverages.

Order lots of food for family function: black pepper crabs, bandeng Torani with special sauce, shrimps.. and all are tasty yet portion is good to share. They provide free flow various sambals to pick up from anytime you want, and sayur asem. Bandeng Torani is a must to order when you were here: they didnt smell dirt, clean, boneless and tasty too. When my husband's family came from Europe, we took them here for lunch. They tried nasi goreng (fried rice), sate ayam (chicken satay) and whatnot. They loved it. The food, the view of the sea. We walked by the water too and saw some tiny crabs coming out of the sands. When my Australian family visited, we took them here too, for dinner. Great breeze from the Balikpapan sea, nice cold Bintang beer, nice food, but also rats greeting us 🤣 - we were at the outdoor seating, so we could hear the waves. It was nice. Rats were just a bonus for our giggles, they didn't bother us, just passing through 😉 Nice place for large group, decent to yummo Indonesian foods.

One of the best seafood places you can find in Balikpapan. It is fresh, dense, firm, aromatic, grilled to perfection, and paired with warm rice, warm soup, and arguably one of the best sambal in the world. Atmosphere is very homey and cozy, everyone was calling everyone "sayang" and laughter was around every corner, from both the staff and the customers filled with satisfaction. There’s wifi, but you have to ask for it. There’s service charge at the end.

everyone said that u have to try the crab if u come to Balikpapan! and @kepitingdandito is the hot place to go! 🦀 we've tried the kepiting jantan saus dandito and I'll sadly announce that crab is not my cup of tea 🥹 the meat is not as sweet as I imagined it to be, and it's such a hassle to eat with just a little meat. however, the sauce is great and everyone happy with it 🙂‍↕️ but everything else is super tasty for me! the udang saus asam manis was bomb and super clean! BUT THE FUYUNG HAI is such on another level, I'd say it's the best fuyung hai that I've tried so far. 🍤🍳 the waiting time is okay and the server were very helpful. the price was okay compared to the overall experience. I'll recommend it to everyone that visit Balikpapan to try. 👍

Must visit and must eat here. It’s a crab 🦀 Legend in Balikpapan. We can take away as oleh-oleh as well. Great.

This excellent seafood restaurant offers a wide variety of sauces and is a popular choice among locals, with reasonable prices. Its convenient location, just minutes from the airport, makes it a must-visit for anyone departing from Balikpapan.😋

This is the local seafood restaurant mainly served the crab. Many type of taste to cook the crab. Reasonable price and the seafood are fresh! The restaurant is big but service is a little bit slow but understandable during the peak hour. There is a live band singing which entertain you while eating, which is feel great!

Pantai Batu-Batu Banua Patra, also known as Pantai Banua Patra, is a beach in Balikpapan city with an abundance of sand and natural stones. It's perfect for those seeking solitude and offers a beautiful sunset view. However, swimming is not recommended due to the large rocks. The beach is situated between Semayang Port and Banua Patra Beach and serves as a center for food and drinks at night.
I love it so much Banua Patra Beach located in the heart of Balikpapan. Beach that we can reach near the town. The beach was so clean. There is also restaurant if you want to eat or drink. Restroom also available. You will love the beautiful beach view with white sands.

Not a bad place for photos, but isn’t the most pleasant walks to get here. There’s trash and things lying all around and even in the water. But it’s pretty and probably one of the best places so far
Andy — Google review
For the best spot for sunset with beautiful setting in balikpapan... to get there is quite challenging especially to reach the jagged rocky beach... but it was breathtaking ... took some beautiful silhouettes there
Jimmy S — Google review
The beach is near the city. A good enough place to spend time in the afternoon. You can see the sunset without obstacles.

Kawasan Kampung Atas Air is a picturesque village that offers a great opportunity for photography enthusiasts. It is conveniently accessible by motorbike due to its narrow alleyways, but lacks a designated car park. However, it is not advisable to visit during the rainy season as the strong winds can be problematic. This charming destination in Balikpapan is particularly renowned for its stunning sunset views, making it an ideal spot for capturing those magical moments.
Lovely place for sunset photo spot in Balikpapan.

The ambience is so fine and you can see many merchants who sell food and drink when you get here. Just one that i need to highlight, there are no enough area to park your Vehicle.

Nice village. Good spot for taking photos. Better access with motorbike because the alley way. No car park. Not recommended in rainy season, the wind is too strong.
Sheila V — Google review
A nice place for sunset vibes
Adides S — Google review
Actually Kampung atas Air Margasari is a very wide place because it is a village that built on the water. The most visited place maybe the wooden bridge which is facing the sea. You can sit on the edge of that bridge, looking to the blue sky and the sea and there will an infinite fire spark from the oil refinery torch. I'm amazed when seeing people treat the wooden bridge like it is a solid bridge because motorcycles are going back and forth on it (even I saw boys played football there!). I think sunset is the best time to visit, you can't resist to take some pictures.

Mangrove Center Graha Indah is a well-preserved forest area near Batu Ampar Village in Balikpapan. Managed by the local community, it's dedicated to conserving the mangrove ecosystems of the region. Visitors can stroll along wooden boardwalks to learn about the significance of these coastal forests. The center offers Klotok Boat rides through waterways and tall mangrove trees, providing opportunities to spot Bekantan Monkeys and crocodiles.
Cheap and lively local tours. If you're lucky, you might see proboscis monkeys "Bekantan" and crocodiles. The best times to visit are early morning and late afternoon. Don't forget to bring sunglasses and bananas for feeding the monkeys
Ainun M — Google review
Great place! You can do go show without prior reservation if coming in small groups. 300k IDR for a 1 hour boat ride around their mangrove ecosystem (max 4-5 people per boat). The trip was great, we got to appreciate the healthy mangrove ecosystem, see some proboscis monkeys, and crocodiles! Guide is helpful and knowledgable. Toilet is decent enough.
Amadea C — Google review
Its nice to refresh your mind from the crowd of the city. If you’re lucky you can see the Bekantan. I came here when the weather was nice, not too sunny. You can rent the boat, 300k/boat And ask the information about the mangrove to capt of the boat 👍🏼
Mitha S — Google review
We saw the monkeys from far away during the midday. Better to come in the late afternoon or early morning. Beautiful mangroves!
George P — Google review
Wonderful experience. We saw proboscis monkeys. The guide explained a lot.
Rob — Google review
Great experience. We had a student from East-Timor along that works there, who spoke English very well. Saw monkeys in the trees. One crocodile (/cayman?), that went under a bit too soon to properly see (the sound of the boat's engine scares them). Best is come really early or late in the afternoon, because the water is higher then, allowing the boat to get between the mangrove trees, where it's mud instead if you come at another time in between. This is an affordable event for everyone looking to see monkeys with the long nose that live here. It's said there are also black monkeys, but we didn't see those this time.
Charrels I — Google review
Very nice bot ride offered at 300k IDR. You might not see the proboscis monkeys but will still enjoy a nice and relaxing boat ride through the mangrove out into the river. For best monkey viewing come early in the morning or late afternoon, they don’t enjoy the heat.

Restoran Kepiting Kenari is a must-visit dining spot in Balikpapan, Kalimantan, known for its unique and delicious crab dishes. Located on Jalan Iswahyudi No. 4, this restaurant offers a variety of crab preparations at reasonable prices. The signature dish, kepiting kenari, features giant fresh crabs that are cooked with a choice of sauces such as black pepper, sweet and sour, oyster sauce, or boiled.
AMAZING... its the best crab i ever had! a must try if you ever in town.. they cooked the crab with calamondin..
Dhany S — Google review
Bruneian tourist here and I came here with my wife. Ordered a good selection of crab, squid and prawn. Liked the steamed prawn, it was fresh and prawn was chewy. Goes well with the lime and chili sauce. Ordered the squid in their special sauce which is actually sweet asam sauce. Squid was fresh and portion good for us both. Sauce was good but a little too sweet for my liking. It was average. Then the crab, we felt the crab could have been better. A little overcooked and the meat just sticks to the shell. Took a lot of effort to extract the meat and it was time consuming. Had a similar crab at Ocean’s, it was better there but a bit more expensive. I felt this place was overrated. It did not leave up to the hype and would be g somewhere else for a good crab.

Restoran Kepiting Kenari is famous for its fresh, flavorful crab dishes. The signature sauces are rich and perfectly seasoned, making every bite memorable. A great place for seafood lovers to enjoy generous portions and a lively dining atmosphere.

Take away their black pepper crab and crab meat fried rice. I like their black pepper which is just nice with the taste of blackpepper and saltyness. Price wise is cheaper than the one across too, and personally like this restaurant better too. Value for money for the big portion they served and especially for take away, they can readying for you in boxes packed.

1st timer - im not a big fans of seafood, but this place is recommended from the local friend, said it fresh and tasty, i ordered Black Pepper Crab for home, the restaurant take a very serious wrapping for take away food, it come out in vacuumed plastic bags and in the sealed box that make all the customers easy to bring home

If you like crab dishes you have to check out this place. Balikpapan seems to be famous for its fresh seafood and this selection of fresh softshell crab, fried crab and crab fried rice was irresistible. Given the generous size of the portions the price is very reasonable.

The food had a plenty of taste with best quality of fresh seafood, however Kenari should had treat the water in toilet, seem not filtered, for me its not recomended to using toilet

Driver brought us to this restaurant which apparently President Jokowi and Prabowo ate at. The special assam manis sauce was in the prawn ( udang) dish. It was tasty. Fresh prawns and good sized. The crab was black pepper swimming in a dark sweetish sauce. I didn’t like it as it was not as spicy as expected and too ‘wet’. The battered squid(sotong)was ok. So was chap chye ( mixed veg of the day). The Mee goreng was basically that - fried indo mee with bits of chicken meat & veg. Boring. There’s fish and chicken as well but didn’t try.

Came for dinner with my family. This place is super wide and have a Good ambience. The outlook of the restaurant was nice and clean. A parking lot offers extra spaces. I ordered the snack platter as a main dish and they looked delicious 😆 The platter was very tasty, that leads me to think about coming back and try out other dishes. Hmm, it would be better if they serve people more faster (around 30 minutes to serve my food).

Very spacious place with very spacious parking area. You can still maintain the distance here. No air conditioning which is good in this pandemic COVID-19 era. Food and beverages are 6/10. The coffee was not too good. This one is not for you if you're a real coffee addict. In the other side there's a spacious place with a well maintained cactus garden as well as other plants. An instagrammable place.

The place is wide. Like suuuuper wide. It has 3 stories and you can buy cactus in there too! Not only cactus but also the pots. There are so many tasty foods and drinks options. Beautiful and cozy place. The only downside of this place is that it has few stop contacts and are far from the seats. Oh and i think there's a live music too because they have a small stage there. Would love to visit this place again :)

This place is usually visited by teenagers because it is a good place for photos and the price is also affordable. On the lower floor behind the cafe we can see the view and lots of cactus plants. It's an ideal choice for spending weekends enjoying delectable seafood while overlooking the beach. In addition to seafood, they also serve various vegetable dishes like water spinach stir-fried with shrimp paste.
Really good food. Kepiting Asap was really delicious. Big portion too, can fed 4 people. The place was just beside the beach so we can directly see the sea. Downside is there's lots of wind and sometimes sea water splash out to the table if you choose the table nearest the beach.

Food was okay, the place was amazing. However, their service was a bit of let down 😔 The lady who took our order was an amazing person, she knew the product well and served us great. But there was this younger lady with long hair who shown a bit of negligence. There was this one table with a strategic view of the sea left messy because of the previous customer. I asked to her whether the table is available and have the table cleaned for us, and she answered, “Meja nya masih dipake,” yet she didn’t bother to check the bill of the prev cust or asked her colleagues whether the table is available or not. We waited for a few moment and checked on the table again to see if there’re any belongings of the prev cust and we found none, so I checked again with the other waiter, which is the lady who served us great. She checked with her colleague, checked the computer, and gave us a clear sign that the table is available for us. Customer satisfaction should come first if you work in the fnb area. And please do check first before giving any answers 🙏🏼

First time here and friend suggested to order the smoky crab. It was wrapped in banana leaves. I can’t smell the smokiness. It was good, but for my taste it is a bit sweet. The service was good. Good size of parking lot and gratis, no charge. Be ready to be offered snacks by little girls at the parking lot. I enjoyed the view of the water, can see oil rig.

this place sells seafood dishes. most of the menu are not suitable for individual portion. it's meant for a group gathering. the food is good, but it's too overpriced. it's very expensive. a portion of smoked crab costs more than a 500k rupiah. it's cooked with black pepper, but i can't really taste the smoky flavor from the meat. a large fish soup can cost over than 500k rupiah too. this place is located on the beach. you can see and hear the ocean splashes. you can see the dining plates hand signed by the politicians. maybe that's why this place is expensive. it's a staple for the politicians who are visiting this city.

According to the locals in Balikpapan, this is one of the best food stalls in the city, especially known for its Soto Banjar. I went there around a year ago and ordered the Soto Banjar — I found it quite delicious. I also ordered the Es Campur, which was also tasty. I had the cream puff (kue sus) too — it was pretty good.

First of all, this place is not too big, i think its medium sized, only can fit less than 50 people inside. But, the taste of the foods are great, especially es campur and soto banjar. Loved it. Its kinda cheap also (around 20k), and its worth it i think. There is also a cake called kue sus, it tastes great. I loved it also. The parking space is kinda small though (only could fit 3 cars, and the other cars should park on the side of the street). Well, thats it. Anyone have vacation to balikpapan? This one is a must try. My fav is the Es Campur. Since I was in elementary school (SD), Es Campur Cenderawasih always been on my meals to-go lists when it comes to drinks/desserts, so that I often make takeway order here. And of course the eccentric architecture of this place, (it preserve the form of old typical Balikpapan building) makes this resto a legend.
