If you only have 2 days to spend in Porto Ercole, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Porto Ercole is a picturesque fishing village on Tuscany’s Monte Argentario peninsula, known for its colorful harbor, medieval lanes, and relaxed seaside atmosphere. The town is framed by impressive Spanish-era forts and offers sweeping views of the Tyrrhenian Sea from its surrounding hills. Nearby coves and beaches provide clear water for swimming and boating, while the waterfront is lined with cafés and restaurants serving fresh seafood. It’s also a convenient base for exploring the Argentario coast and nearby islands like Giglio.
With favorites like Orto Botanico Corsini, Feniglia, and Sandwich Club, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like RED STAR wine/pub/Caffè and Trattoria Pizzeria La Lampara so you can get the best taste of Porto Ercole while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Feniglia is a stunning 7km stretch of sandy beach and pine trees located in a natural reserve that connects Monte Argentario to the mainland. This untouched beach near Orbetello offers crystal clear waters, wild nature, and fine white sand. Visitors can leave their cars in shaded parking areas and explore the pine forest on foot or by bike before relaxing on one of Tuscany's most beautiful beaches.
Close to paradise I’d say. Pure nature with cristalline sea waters. Stunning views and 7 km of a dream beach

Beautiful sandy beach that spans a huge distance. Water and sand quality is very nice. There is sometimes debris from the trees and algae but if you walk a little bit you can definitely find spots that are clean. Parasol and beach chairs are extra ($) This public beach is very busy so it is best to get there early.
Ian R — Google review
Lovely, long sandy beach. Early in the morning was super to walk. Later in the morning it filled up pretty full even for late June. I found a nice hill with a breeze to hang my hammock and enjoyed watching over the crowded super-hot sand.
Jeremy L — Google review
The eastern beach looks nice, nothing more... Public parking is about 15min walk from the beach. The eastern public beach is far away from the expectations of a wild beach. I guess there's another specific access to the untamed areas of the beach. Navigation apps couldn't suggest anything a car can reach. Maybe I'll get successful next time...

Super clean beach and water great for kids and families

Nice long beach. You may want to walk in the woods and then cut back along the beach. A couple of bars and a pay car park. Good shallow area for kids.

Beaches
Riva del Marchese Beach Club is a resort-like beach area located near Porto Ercole, offering a wooden boardwalk, seafood dining, swimming spots, and sun loungers. It's a great spot for those who prefer rocky beaches and is within walking distance from Porto Ercole. The beach club features a restaurant serving simple but good food, with daily pastas being the highlight. Visitors can also enjoy amenities such as showers and shuttle service to the parking area.
Great beach at walking distance from Porto Ercole. The restaurant offers simple but good food especially the daily pastas. Staff very kind. Shower and shuttle to parking above the steep stairs are are included in the daily fee. Only remark I have is that I Would like to see more Italian food and seasonal fruit in the menu. Not orange, pineapple and kiwi in august in Italy but peaches, prunes, melon etc. There are so many good thing in Italy. Let’s not import food and instead praise local and season sustainable food 🙏
Pier T — Google review
A very down to earth place. Prices are reasonable at €40 for two sunbeds an umbrella and two shower tokens. These are for sunbeds on the grass vs. €30 on the actual beach. Say half a bar that's a first time sandwiches. The staff are extremely helpful and compassionate (always offering help as I am using a cane -recovering from an injury). The little bay is quite nice and the water is pretty shallow. They offe a safe for your valuables that locks wirelessly with a water proof bracelet - a very convenient touch. It fills up quickly so make sure you reserve. The parking is €10 for the day and there's a shuttle Van with a wonderful driver, who speaks fluent English. Excellent coffee!!
Lamia L — Google review
Nicely located beach with a fantastic view and easy access to the water thanks to a wooden boardwalk. Also great service at the bar that offers simple and tasty dishes for lunch. Unfortunately the beach itself is quite polluted with a lot of small plastic pieces in the sand. Paying 25€ for sunbeds i would expect the people working there to taking better care/ clean up.
David S — Google review
Best beach very close to Porto Ercole. Just below the borgho. Very small and special: grass, sand, rocks. Nice spatious setting. Peaceful. Small bar for drinks and tasty snacks. Great people running this. Very friendly reading your wishes from your lips and maintaining serenity in this paradise ! All you need !! But you should book in advance by a call if you can.
Steffen K — Google review
very nice beach club with grass. but the beach itself is littered with plastic and ita hard to get ibto the sea because of rocks. nice for snorkeling!
Stijn P — Google review
Beautiful place. Rather expensive, but worthy if you can affort it. Sometimes a little bit too crowded. Nice snorkling, swimming, chillin’!

Lovely little beach on the Argentario peninsula near Porto Ercole. Beds, umbrellas and lunch, everything you need for a nice day in the sun.
Ralf G — Google review
The Beach is very beautiful and the prices are reasonable. just remember to bring your towel otherwise you will be charged 5 euros for renting one. Also the food is quite good and reasonably priced. If you chose to park at their facility is 8 euro per car for the full day. The clerks look a bit stressed out, some of them are nice some of them not, not sure why :)

Fort Stella, located above Porto Ercole, is a well-preserved fortification built between the mid-sixteenth and first half of the seventeenth century. This imposing structure features four-pronged bastions with a second six-pronged fortification overhanging the sea. Originally serving as a watchtower, it communicated with other towers in the area using light signals to alert against potential attacks.

Spiaggia Lunga is a compact beach located along the rocky coastline north of Piombino, just 12km from Poggio all'Agnello. It is known for its rustic ambiance, beautiful caletta, and sweeping views. The white pebble beach offers crystal clear waters similar to those found on nearby Elba Island. Visitors can rent umbrellas and sunbeds as well as enjoy water and fizzy drinks services on the beach.
Stunning beach. highly recommend coming early in the morning to find parking space along the road. Need to climb down to access rocky beach, recommend aqua shoes. d, they don't give fines in theory but there aren't many parking lots. Rocky beach here, I recommend rock shoes. We rent umbrella and sun loungers, many people also stay on the free beach. Beautiful crystal clear water.
Hyoung L — Google review
Wonderful water but unfortunately way too much trash. Also not ideal for kids, It’s a 10 minutes “hike” the way to the Beach is pretty steep.
Giorgia V — Google review
This beach was just ok. Didn’t help that it wasn’t sunny when we arrived but overall too rocky and too many waves to be pleasant. Other better beaches around near Porto Stefano.
Cassandra W — Google review
Beautiful caletta and with amenities. We came here beginning of September and it was very quite, with crystal clear water. On the beach you can rent umbrella and sun beds for 15€ (pay in cash) and there is also service for water an fizzy drinks. I have also read that they were doing lunch service, but maybe only in the peak of the season. The trail is a bit hard on the way back, as it’s very steep, but there are steps and is easy to walk. My advise is just take it slow. I believe during season it can get very busy and a bit hard to find parking (as everywhere else in Argentario). Only minus is the boats parked 200m from the cost and the sun going behind the mountain around 5pm. Overall totally worthy!
Nadja D — Google review

Sanjid A — Google review
The beach was privatized. We wanted to lay down between sunbeds on a big space and a guy came and told it's forbidden. The beach is dirty, so people who privatized, just illegaly put the sunbeds and dont offer any service. 1 star for the sea. A couple of years ago it was an empty free beach.
Anastasia B — Google review
Limited parking on the main road. The path to go down to the beach is a mix of steps and slopes, not too challenging, but that is obviously down to personal conditions. We have been down there with young children, so it was doable. The beach is all stones, with a mini kiosk that has some drinks and (I think) food brought from the town. We didn't order so not sure 100%. From them you can rent an umbrella and sun beds, as well as a kayak (€5/hour) or a pedaló (€10/hour).
Vieri N — Google review
Beautiful! Definitely a steep walk down and a hike back up so be prepared. Worth it for the private cove feel, clear cooler waters and pebble beach. Lunch is offered around noon too!

Experience the warm atmosphere of Tuscany at RED STAR, an espresso bar and pub where you can truly feel at home. Run by Roberto and his incredibly kind wife Giovanna, this family business offers a variety of delicious dishes such as spaghetti with tomato sauce or clams, along with hearty salads featuring tuna or mozzarella.
Feel at home in Tuscany! Roberto and his extra kind wife Giovanna have this touch for Spaghetti pomodoro or vongole or telline and huge Insalatone with tuna fish or mozzarella or fried potatoes and burger. Local wine or aperitivo surrounded by maremman humour in a 40 year old Bar where Monte Argentario residential artists passed by so long time ago.

Trattoria Pizzeria La Lampara is a delightful gem nestled along the picturesque waterfront of Porto Ercole, where charm and authenticity come together to create an unforgettable dining experience. On a bustling Sunday evening, we found ourselves captivated by the vibrant atmosphere as we waited for our table.
Pizza and pasta were delicious! Design and view are amazing! Service was good!

Excellent pizza, but seafood pasta was bit of a miss. Something like a spaghetti or linguine would have been better. Seafood was fresh. They gave my friend a candle for her birthday which was nice of them
H — Google review
We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. As German tourists, we immediately felt unwelcome. The service was unfriendly and inattentive, and unlike all the Italian guests around us, we were not given any bread at the beginning – even though it is automatically charged. Only after asking twice and waiting again for a long time did we finally receive it. The food itself was far from convincing: small portions, poor quality, and certainly not worth the price. Overall, the atmosphere and the way we were treated made us feel uncomfortable. We would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone.
Simone M — Google review
We went for dinner on a Sunday night, and the place was packed at 8:30 pm. My partner and I decided to wait — and it was totally worth it! Our amazing waiter Giordano went the extra mile and found us a table by 9:15 pm. We ordered two pizzas (Fake News and Marinara with Salamino piccante) and some great beers. While we waited, Giordano surprised us with bread made from pizza dough and local olive oil — such a nice touch! Honestly, Giordano is the kindest and most attentive waiter I’ve met in Italy. Giordano, you absolutely rock!
Vaclav M — Google review
Absolutely charming place right on the harbor. We had delicious pizza but the star was the grilled lobster special. Service was amazing such a positive vibe from everyone there!!
Jeremy E — Google review
What an amazing find! A lovely restaurant with the best pizza we’ve ever had. Very friendly staff who stopped for a chat and told us all about their restaurant. The tiramisu was the highlight of the night. We’ve been travelling round Italy for a week and didn’t expect much from this stop but it has by far been the best so far! If I could give 10 stars for service I would.
Rossco — Google review
Best seafood I've ever had and some of the, probably the, best food I've ever had - it's not cheap but I felt it was great value. Perfectly cooked, phenomenal flavour and the homemade mayonnaise with sea urchin (came with the fried calamari) was a delight. Excellent awareness of coeliac requirements with the waiting staff knowing what the options are off-by-heart, they are incredibly accommodating and clearly take pride in their work. Their English is excellent too.
P M — Google review
We loved this charming and authentic restaurant on the waterfront of Porto Ercole. We ordered two delicious pizzas - a margarita and vegetarian pizza with eggplant, peppers, and mushrooms. The dough was pillowy and chewy with the right amount of salt, the tomato sauce was exceptionally well balanced, and the vegetables were fresh from the market. The local olive oil they served was one of the best I’ve tasted, and the service was friendly and attentive. great experience overall.

Seafood restaurant
Nestled at the beginning of the port, Ristorante La Pinta is a charming family-run establishment that offers an authentic dining experience with stunning views of the harbor. Unlike many local eateries that opt for frozen seafood, La Pinta prides itself on serving fresh and flavorful dishes. Diners rave about their delectable vongole and seafood pasta, which showcase the best of coastal cuisine. The atmosphere is enhanced by picturesque sunsets behind Monte Argentario, casting a lovely pink hue over your meal.
If a died tomorrow this was the best meal I have ever eaten. The seafood was so fresh and the beautiful backdrop of the marina was awesome. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Porto Ercole. 👍👍👍
Geoff R — Google review
The seafood was super tasty and very fresh. The service was super friendly and you have a beautiful view of the harbor from there. When we were there there was a mosquito plague and we were given both anti-mosquito spray and a smoke coil to combat it. 5/5
Nils — Google review
Very nice restaurant and employees. They were accommodating to a vegetarian and the appetizer and dinner was wonderful.
Ethan N — Google review
Possibly the worst dinner in Italy anywhere north to south over the last couple of years. An hour of wait for our main course, only to receive cold food and a frittata that was at best frozen. Not even an apology for the wait.
Milena M — Google review
The appetizers took a literal hour to arrive. Anyone we asked about it replied with: “it wasn’t my fault”, completely avoiding responsibility. The service was terrible. The table next to us left after they received water because it took the waiters too long to serve them as well.
Geraldine F — Google review
I can honestly say that I have no idea what's with the negative comments. We ordered the vongole and the seafood pasta - both were superb. Service was great - staff friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We spend a lot of time in Italy so have eateb at many restaurants. Some are better than others - I see no reason to say anything negative about this experience.
Sharon H — Google review
Lovely staff, but the food was awful. The spaghetti alle vongole was full of oil and the vongole weren't fresh. The bread was stale and the gnocchi overcooked. It's clear that this restaurant is catering to tourists who don't know any better.

L'Acqua Dolce is a charming beach cove with pebbly sand, offering swimming and boating opportunities. Its name originates from the existence of seven small freshwater streams in the past, providing bathers with refreshing water. The beach features a mix of sandy areas and small pebbles, while its seabed contains submerged rocks. Visitors recommend arriving early to secure a good spot and enjoy the sun, as it sets behind the mountain around 5:30 pm in August.
Nice pebble beach, carpark at 500 m. Steep steps to access, easy enough but not suitable for disabled.

Fantastic beach club with amazing views of Isolotto island and unbelievably clear blue water!! The food was delicious and the fit out of the venue felt very stylish and beautiful. Spent many sunny days here with friends enjoying the lounge beds sipping on cocktails. All the staff were super friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend a visit if you want to enjoy a relaxing day, have delicious food, drinks and have a dip! Would come back for the selection of yummy Gelatos they had there alone!!

Sadly they changed management, and the menu offers now a very limited choice with very high prices for simple slices of bread and sandwiches. 4€ for a small water, 10€ for fries. It is now managed by a fancier hotel up the road. Simple solution is getting food up the hill at the Baretto Le Viste before coming down the slope, the prices are normal there What a shame

The most Beautiful beach of the area. The sun-beds are very comfortable, the staff is friendly. One negative point, only the hotel guest of La Roqqa have the possibility to order cocktails from the restaurant. People who come for the day, will have the possibility to order either beer or two different wines. (The white wine from Puglia was delicious). The restaurant is really nothing special.

(Translated by Google) The cloudy weather didn't help, but the area is honestly not worth it. The road to get there is steep, but comfortable. The paid section costs €65 for the nice little beach, and €80 for an umbrella and two loungers on the lawn. The free section to the right is very dirty. I'm attaching the plastic bag I collected. I left a lot of it under the reeds and rocks. Avoid. Evitare.

(Translated by Google) The 5-star rating is only for when you're in the water; for everything else, it's a 2-star rating. Currently, parking in front of the beach club's entrance is charged at €10 per day, with a single option. Those parking along the road have received fines. You have to walk down a steep slope of about 400 meters, making the return journey a bit tiring. There's little space available for the free area; everything else is a private beach where it's impossible to get close enough to buy typical beach products... on busy days, you have to settle for a few small spaces or on some rocks on the opposite side.

(Translated by Google) Lovely sandy beach located shortly after Porto Ercole. You go down a paved road, steep, but very doable. There is an extremely luxurious lounge bar (I read the previous reviews, we didn't buy anything). Despite the establishment, you can stay with your own umbrella. They also allow the use of their bathrooms. We brought everything, umbrella, food, water and sup. Incredible crystal clear water, first small rocks then all sand. There are caves. Very pleasant to go sup, lots of fish. Noi abbiamo portato tutto, ombrellone , cibo acqua e sup. Acqua cristallina incredibile , prima piccole rocce poi tutta sabbia. Ci sono delle grotte. Piacevolissimo andare in sup, tanti pesci.

Rocca Spagnola is a must-see attraction in the area, situated on the hillside above the town. The star-shaped Forte Stella offers stunning sea views and is also worth a visit. In addition to these, there are about 20 forts and lookout towers spread across the promontory for those interested in further exploration.

If you want to walk, it's a wonderful ten-minute scenic walk. Park at the bottom of the road where there's a panoramic café, and take the road to the right that leads up. Alternatively, you can drive there, but you can't drive far. The view is worth it. The owner's platinum smile will last as long as you use your credit card. Italian restaurant
Ristorante Il Gambero Rosso is a renowned dining spot in Porto Ercole, known for its exquisite seafood, meat, and vegetarian dishes. The restaurant offers a breathtaking panoramic terrace with views of the harbor and serves contemporary Italian cuisine. Guests praise the outstanding service and personalized recommendations provided by the staff. With nearly 50 years of history, this restaurant continues to impress diners with its delectable offerings such as Fritto Misto di Pesce and spaghetti alle Vongole.
Had to leave a great review after our fantastic experience & seeing that so many bad reviews were left here. I own a restaurant in New York and have a travel business where we bring clients on culinary tours in Italy. I’ve been to many places and this restaurant hit all the marks. Service attentive but not overbearing, wine was great, and food incredible. We found the pricing for the product to be fair, you can certainly get a cheap meal if desired but I should suggest to get the gambero rosso pasta as its Devine. We started with a four year old local white wine and fried shrimp, then clams pasta & their flagship shrimp pasta for primi. Finished with grilled catch of the day that was prepared simply, with respect to the freshness. The view is also beautiful. Perhaps we have more patience and understand the value of fresh organic cuisine than others. Great job to all. We will be back soon!

The restaurant is well located immediately near the marina where people do their passeggiata. We have received, although we were late, an excellent table. The food, seafood mainly was fresh amd delicious. The staff was professionnel, polite and nice. Even our dog Toffee was warmly welcomed. We have enjoyed this dinner a lot. My recommendation!

Unprofessional service, waiters seemed to be very bothered of our presence and they looked like that they didn’t want to do their job. Very small portions for the price. No atmosphere at all. Quality of the products was good but this is what you should expect from a restaurant with those prices.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful culinary experience, look no further than Sandwich Club. This charming Italian eatery is a beloved local gem, offering an impressive selection of around 70 different sandwiches and salads, along with daily specials that often feature pasta and delectable desserts. Great fresh food not just sandwiches. Salads and pasta as well. I would give it 5 stars, but the manager or owner leaves the poor woman Cinzia by herself to take orders, toast sandwiches, pack food, serve counter while he’s out getting supplies during the busiest time of day. He would do much more business if they at least have someone packing food orders and taking payment while Cinzia is working! Plus no one touching food should take payments. #auitaCinzia

The very essence of wholesome, honest, fast food. A mainstay of approximately 70 variations of sandwiches and salads, plus a specials board that includes pasta and cakes changing daily. Cinzia the proprietor never mistakes an order and will probably still remember your first meal at her place even 10 years down the road! Seats are limited (10 stools along the wall), so be prepared to vacate your seat immediately after having your food...or better still, take away and have your sandwich by the sea.
