Surprisingly this is the best view of Sigiriya rock, as you are not too far from it and almost in the same height. The view is also panoramic as on the Sigiriya rock, the price is symbolic and there is less queue. Early morning is less crowded, not recommended to go there when it is dark and if you intend to see the sunrise, not all the route is with proper stairs, you will have to coastal over a few big rocks. Make sure to spend enough time on the top as it is really a spectacular experience, the air is fresh, it’s a bit windy and the panoramic view is fulfilling. On the way you will encounter black face monkeys and dogs who will accompany you waiting for some food and water. Bottom line, it is a great way to see the Sigiriya rock, the same panoramic , more cost effective and less crowded!

We went there for sunrise, started at the bottom around 5.15am but maybe starting a little earlier would even be better. It's a beautiful hike, starting with stairs, but the higher you get the rougher the territory. At the end, you have to climb big rocks, so should be kind of fit and not afraid of free climbing a little bit - still doable for beginners! And the view is fantastic!

I went early for sunrise, and it turned out to be the highlight of my trip. Watching the golden light touch Sigiriya Rock from Pidurangala’s summit, surrounded by misty forests, was simply magical — a view that stays with you long after you leave. 💰 Why I Recommend It For just 500–1000 LKR ($3–$6), it’s a great value — quieter, cheaper, and less touristy than Sigiriya. Many people say it offers the best view in Sri Lanka, and after seeing it myself, I completely agree. Great morning workout with Pidurangala.Pidurangala is a hidden gem that offers one of the most stunning panoramic views of Sigiriya and the surrounding countryside. The hike is adventurous, with a mix of rocky paths and peaceful forest trails leading to the top. The sunrise and sunset views are absolutely breathtaking, making the climb truly rewarding. It’s less crowded than Sigiriya, giving a more peaceful and natural experience. Pidurangala is perfect for nature lovers and those seeking both adventure and serenity in Sri Lanka.

Very nice place, take good shoes, best hike shoes. Do not forget water. We went on sunset, really good but difficult to have the sun and lion rock at the same time. The climb is a bit sporty, "stairs" are non even rocks so more difficult than the climb of lion rock. Beware the monkey’s, do not feed them or you will have the on your back.

Amazing Family Adventure at Pidurangala Rock! We visited Pidurangala Rock with our whole family – including our little ones aged 3 and 4 – and it was such a memorable experience! The hike was a bit challenging in parts, especially near the top where there’s some climbing over rocks, but we took our time and made it safely. The kids did surprisingly well and loved the adventure! The views from the summit are absolutely breathtaking – especially the panoramic view of Sigiriya Rock. It’s well worth the effort! We went early in the morning to avoid the heat, and the sunrise made it even more magical. If you're traveling with kids, just go prepared: wear good shoes, bring water, and take it slow. But yes – it's definitely doable and so rewarding. Highly recommended for families looking for a unique adventure in Sri Lanka!

Great climb to get a beautiful view of Lions rock! Hike is a little challenging, especially at the end, but manageable for most! A lot of people say this is harder than lions rock climb, however I think lions rock is harder, just because of how steep it is and also - whilst there are stairs, monkeys + the super high view, can be a little scary for some. Most of our group were hesitant up lions rock, which they were not for Pidurangala! There can be some people queuing if at a busy time, so just be patient as some people struggle with the steeper climbs!

I was so excited to visit the temple and never expected the journey to be this long. The trail wound steeply through the forest, each step feeling heavier as the climb went on. It was a challenging hike, and by the time we reached the top, we were out of breath and covered in sweat. But the moment we saw the panoramic view — mountains stretching endlessly, the temple standing gracefully against the sky, and even the majestic Sigiriya visible in the far distance — every bit of exhaustion melted away. The view from the top truly did not disappoint.

Awesome and challenging hike (30m to 1 hr depending on fitness and volume of people. Views are spectacular. Clambering over rocks is tons of fun, but you need to be fit and confident. 1000 rupees for an adult and 500 for kids, much better value than Sigiriya ($35 USD for adults and $20 for kids).

Great place to view Sigariya or the sunset. Nominal fee of 1000 rupees to be paid to the temple at the base. The climb is exacting and difficult, with uneven steps, narrow passages, and manoeuvring through tight spaces, with a few bottle necks that restrict the movement of people. You need to hands free to get through. People with any sort of joint or mobility issues will really struggle to get up. The views are worth the effort if you can get up. There is plenty of space to spread out and do your own thing on the top. There is lighting to help guide you down, but bring a torch if your coming down after sunset. Will be useful if the track lights are out.

If you want the budget view of the Lion Rock in Sigiriya, this is the place to go. The entry was about 1000LKR for 1 foreign adult whereas Lion Rock is about 7000LKR. This helps the maintain the place with lighting and other amenities. There is a toilet near the parking along with some condiment stores for refreshments. There’s a temple at the start of the flight of stairs to the top which will need you to be fully covered near your shoulders and knees. You get a Sarong (large shawl) to use, not sure if you have to rent because I didn’t use it. There are stairs of flight almost until 80% of the way and the rest is pure nature rock climb. You need to be fit and willing to do the rest 20% but the view is definitely worth it. Shoes, water bottle, shades, cap and some energy boosters are definitely recommended. Won’t recommend it during monsoon or rains.

Amazing view on the top and It’s a challenging climb of almost 1km and some sections the climb is very steep.. Proper foot wear is highly recommended as the steps can be slippery and they are also uneven in height. The effort is rewarded with a panoramic view of the surrounding valley but not much else.. The cave entrance to the cave to see the paintings is also worth the effort..

It’s quite a trek to the top of the rock, and it’s not for the faint hearted - but if you can persevere, the views and the experience once you get to the top, are definitely worth the knee trembling moments. The actual climb up is around 1200 steps, so can be tough going if you’re not overly fit, take water with you - although there’s a refill station on route. Once you get to the top, it’s absolutely amazing to see this incredible fort that was built 1600 years ago - this is right up there with Machu Picchu (built 600 years ago) but with engineering way before its time!

What a fantastic place. I visited in October so during the off season which was a blessing " absolutely no crowds " The price may seem a little steep but by the time you've experienced it, that'll seem pretty insignificant. The views are amazing both from up ontop and throughout the gardens, even before you enter stop to appreciate the manicured landscape and surrounding moat.

Climbing the rock is a journey if you're not fit, some people can find it challenging, however is very worthy the effort, If people complain about the price I believe is a matter of ensuring that people go there with respect to the history of the place, as you may know places that are free entrance in most places of the world they are not as well preserved, the view is astonishing, and the Frescoes (the best to the end) are so beautiful. Honestly, at least for me, it is worth paying 35 US dollars.

Sigiriya- the Lion Rock is a must-visit destination in Sri Lanka for local and overseas visitors. This is my fourth time with my family; we find lots of improved accessibility every time. This time, many changes have been made to the stairs; they are now easier to climb and descend. In the mid-purified drinking water filters have been installed. This is our first time visiting the museum. I encourage everyone to bring their children there whenever they visit Sigiriya.

Really good experience in Sigiriya. Must visit place in Srilanka. Almost 1200 steps and scary experience even steps of the rock are next level. We were 3 so it took 18000/- LKR as entry tickets for rock and museum. Museum also nice must visit this place. While climbing I recommend to carry water bottle and some snacks to have. One you climb the rock breathtaking views from the top, amazing view loved it. Top of the rock swimming pool also there.

Must do activity around Sigiriya, we came in very early 5Am at opening, very good choice to avoid too many people in the stairs. Quite a lot of climbing but we found it less sporty than the Pidurangala. There are some steel stairs suspending in the void, be careful if you have vertigo. View super nice but also the whole site on top with old pools and palace.

It might seems to be a ripoff to charge 35 usd to walk up the rock, but when you are lucky and arrive at sunrise, it’s beautiful. Locals and foreigners pay different prices.

Superb stay at hotel sigiriya. Stayed with my friends. From the arrival to departure, everything was superb. We were welcomed by the front office team. Welcome drink was fresh and tasty. Our room was located near the pool. It was cleaned, Spacious and well maintained. There were huge dinner buffet. It was tasty and worth for the money. Lovely liver music were there till finish the dinner. Following day morning we could experience jeep safari for the minneriya national park. We just informed the reception and they had arranged everything. Service of the staff were superb. Specially Tharaka, Dilmi and Bawani. Thanks for the warm hospitality.

We had a wow experience at the hotel. I have travelled many hotels but, I feel that I'm with my family. We wanted a place to relax. So we selected hotel sigiriya and stayed for three nights. At the checking, I saw genuine smile from Tharka and Bawani. They were kind to ask my food preferences and other requirements and provided them soon. The room was cleaned and it was close to the spa. Atmosphere was good. You can have stunning view of the lions rock from the pool. The food was absolutely delicious. We were impressed by the authentic taste of the sri Lankan food. The interior is quite simple and randomly put together, but in a charming and funny way. We’d absolutely recommend this place to anyone!

Very busy and popular restaurant. Great food. Nice and spicy for once (no where else is spicy). Ordered the chicken curry and rice and got a great selection of curries for just 1800 and also ordered the chicken Kotthu and it was s a huge portion. Also got given the best colourful popadoms for free starters ever I have been thinking about them ever since they were soo yummy like buttery popcorn. Drinks were 800 each.

After our early morning hike to watch the sunrise, we stopped by Food Soul, a charming little spot surrounded by nature. There’s a peaceful pond right in front and incredible views of the rice fields — and best of all, a clear and stunning view of Lion Rock in the distance. The service was excellent — very kind and attentive. The food, while quite raw, was still tasty and nicely presented. But what truly makes this place special is the peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking scenery. A highly recommended stop if you want to relax and take in the beauty of Lion Rock and the surrounding landscape.

Hidden gem with the best view of Sigiriya! Soul Food Café is an absolute must-visit if you're in Sigiriya! The view of the rock fortress from the café is breathtaking, and the overall vibe is so calm and welcoming. We tried the jackfruit burger, soya wrap, and the passion kithul tickle drink for lunch — and every bite was mouth-watering. Recently, a few of us stopped by Soul Food, a vegetarian restaurant, to grab a meal before a long drive. There were six of us, and they had no problem setting up a large table for us. The menu was pretty extensive. I ordered a Sweet Potato Burger and an Avocado Toast with Egg, plus an Iced Cappuccino and Mango Juice. Overall, the food was really good, but there were a couple of things that could be improved. The wait time was pretty long—probably because we were a group of six, and they wanted to bring everything out at the same time. That’s exactly what happened—they served each dish one by one, and in total, it took about 30-40 minutes to get all the food. It wasn’t a huge issue since we weren’t in a rush, but it would’ve been nice if they had given us a heads-up. The second thing I’d suggest as an improvement is adding fans. We sat outside, and it was really hot. I’ve been to plenty of cafes where they have ceiling fans or stand-alone fans, and it makes a huge difference. Without them, it felt stuffy, and we kept wishing for a bit of a breeze. Overall, great food, but a couple of small changes could make the experience even better!

The view and the food are as good as the photos show! We had the jackfruit and sweet potato burgers and they were delicious. We also asked for our son to have just avocado on toast and they must have used three fresh avocados to make it. Enormous! The drinks and atmosphere were also good and a short five minute walk from Sigiriya Village hotels.

We had the most amazing overall experience during our stay at Back of Beyond! We stayed in one of their treehouses which was so unique. The property is hidden within the jungle, spotless & the staff were all so friendly. We also booked the Loris sighting experience & were lucky enough to see two Loris & a civet! We were in Sigiriya today and saw Rastarant and gave it a try. We were astonished at how good it was. The staff were incredible, so welcoming and busy. We were served immediately (even though it was a busy). We had the wood fired offer, ablbd it was incredible. Hugely generous serving, cooked very well. Great range of drinks available, juices, lassies and mocktails on one hand, cocktails, spirits, wine and beer on the other. Ambiance was brilliant too with reggae music, cricket on the big screen and games to keep everyone entertained. Plenty for the children as well, just don’t let them read the cocktail menu. Very funny but not for little people!

The reggae here is a bit unusual and feels a bit ai, why not play real reggae? Food can be fairly average but big portions.

We couldn’t be happier with our choice to stay here. The staff are incredibly friendly, always eager to help improve your stay and suggest things to do. Even if you already have a plan, it’s worth chatting with them—they might suggest tweaks that make your itinerary even better. For example, we weren’t sure about doing an elephant safari because we didn’t want to stress the animals. The staff recommended a guide they knew, which turned out to be cheaper than booking online. More importantly, we felt the guide respected the animals—you even have the freedom to say “please don’t go there” if you feel the elephants are being disturbed. That gave us real peace of mind. The breakfast is amazing—fresh fruits, juices, toast, pancakes, teas, and pastries. The pool area is surrounded by nature, giving it a very relaxing vibe. We stayed in an upper-floor room, which was spacious with great views over the pool. Just a note: if you’re a light sleeper, you might prefer a lower-floor room. On the top floor, you’ll sometimes hear monkeys running on the roof or rain pouring down heavily. Personally, I loved this as part of the Sri Lankan experience, but some might find it disruptive. A few suggestions: - Some towels had stains (though they were clean)—maybe time for replacements. - A pool umbrella would be great since shade doesn’t reach all the beds. - Think about ways to reduce plastic use, especially water bottles (perhaps refill stations). - Breakfast portions are very generous, but it might help to share the menu with guests first so there’s less food waste. They are currently expanding with two new rooms, so expect a little construction noise for the next couple of months. It didn’t bother us much. Overall, I truly loved this place. The owner should be very proud of such a wonderful and caring team. Highly recommended and I already miss it 🥲🤗

Great place with large rooms and modern bathrooms, fantastic breakfast, very swimming pool in gardens, perfectly located… BUT we were asked to leave the rooms even before the check out time, because the next guests, arrived early, were waiting to get the rooms. One of my favourite places on our journey through Sri Lanka so far. Ideal location for seeing the main sights of Sigiriya and if you're travelling through on public buses, it couldn't be any easier to get to. Arrived to a fresh watermelon juice and a spacious room with a balcony, the pool was perfect for taking the edge off the heat and the surrounding gardens are a real little oasis. Friendly and polite staff who are always available should you need anything. Delicious and generous breakfast with daily variations.

We had a lovely stay at il Frangipane. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the pool was well maintained and a real treat on a hot day. The staff went out of their way to help with advice and organising getting around. It is in a great location, just a short walk from the restaurant strip in Sigiriya town and from Sigiriya itself.

I had a wonderful, comfortable stay at Sigiriya Lion Lodge. We arrived very late because of our flight, and the host kindly accommodated us and made the late check-in process effortless. Our room was spotless, quiet, and well appointed — the electrical junction/charging box in the room was an unexpectedly brilliant convenience (bring a plug adapter if you’re traveling from India). Ajith was especially helpful and friendly: he gave us an early-morning tuk‑tuk ride, found a tuk‑tuk contact for Dambulla caves, and even helped arrange a bus to Kandy. Excellent service and hospitality overall — I’m very happy with the stay and would definitely recommend this property."

The place is a little scary to walk around at night. It's about a 5 minute walk from the main road. However, it's a good place to go to Lion Rock. They also make good breakfast. I think it's the best among the guesthouses in SriLanka!

Very nice accommodation. Clean rooms. Nice hosts! The man drove us to the rock for sunrise. We booked a safari in Minneriya National Park through the accommodation. It was very nice!

Everything here is amazing. Room is spacious, there is parking on-site, and is located a short walk away from the main street of Sigiriya. Breakfast is amazing and was one of the highlights! I also had to check-in really late, and the homestay owner was very accommodating to the request. We also booked a safari jeep tour (organised by the homestay) and we saw many elephants (around 60) that afternoon!

This is a great homestay place to stay. The rooms are very comfortable, in the garden and have a balcony to sit out relax and take in the bird song (giant squirrels gave an aerobatic exhibition at one time also). The breakfast is extensive and very tasty. Access is at night is by car or tuc tuc only- the 200m lane off the main road has elephant traffic so it's dangerous to walk after dark. Priyanti and Manike are great hosts and took us free of charge to Pandaragula and Sigiriya rock for sunrise hikes.

Amazing homestay, located conveniently in Sigiriya. The owners are extremely hospitable and make an amazing breakfast! He was extremely helpful and even took us to the Sigi Rock at 4:30 in the morning.

This is the best located homestay in Sigiriya, just a few hundred metres from the UNESCO World Heritage site. The rooms don't have airconditioning but are not bad in the night. The owner stays on the property and serves an authentic Sri Lankan breakfast. The Sigiriya market is closeby, where you can go for dinner. We had it in Barista, simply because we wanted to have a light meal and rest as we had a long day, driving from Colombo. There is a need for a plumbing job in the bathroom but I would recommend this place.

The Lion’s Paw is one of the most iconic and breathtaking features of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Located near the final stretch of the climb, this monumental stone structure was once part of a massive lion-shaped gateway that led to the king’s palace at the summit. Today, only the colossal paws remain, but they are still awe-inspiring in scale and detail. Standing in front of them, you can imagine how grand the full lion structure must have looked centuries ago. The paws are beautifully carved out of rock, giving visitors a sense of the incredible craftsmanship and ambition of King Kashyapa’s builders. This spot also serves as a natural resting point before the steep climb to the very top of Sigiriya. Many visitors pause here to catch their breath, take photos, and soak in the view of the rock rising above and the plains stretching below. Climbing the narrow stairway between the lion’s paws feels both thrilling and symbolic—as if you’re entering the lion itself, just as people did during the height of Sigiriya’s glory. It is one of the most memorable and photographed parts of the fortress, and for many, it’s the highlight of the visit. Overall, the Lion’s Paw is not just an architectural marvel but also a gateway that connects you to the mystery and grandeur of ancient Sri Lanka. It’s a place where history, art, and imagination come alive, making it one of the must-see landmarks within Sigiriya.

The staircase to the Lion's Rock starts from here. A bit steep stairs and no place to rest until you reach to the top. Avoid weekends and holidays. The stairs will be overcrowded and the crowd will move very slowly. Be aware of the rain. There is no place to cover from the rain if you're on top of the rock. Also be silent as much as possible since there are wasps.

Much needed stop about halfway up the 1,200 steps to the top of the rock. A water station with filtered water here to top up water bottles if needed and some shade for a rest. Lions paw looking very impressive carved out of the rock, amazing to think how they did it so long ago

This is one of the amazing places I visited in Sri lanka - during our trip. It looked quite difficult. But it was a memorable experience. But we happened to be there during the Vesak festival holiday - long weekend (6 May). So the local crowd was too much, unmanageable and uncontrollable. There were long lines and we took close to two hours just to reach the top - due to the rush. We couldn't see the cave paintings as it got closed before we could come back down. Too much rush. The staff was unable to manage the crowd. Avoid this place on national holidays as it gets over crowded.

Lion’s Paw is the grand entrance to the Sigiriya Rock, and these two beautiful lion paws truly show the pride of Sigiriya to the world. This is also the last place where you can fill your water bottles, as there is filtered water available from a nearby water treatment plant donated by the Indian government. It’s a perfect spot to drink some fresh water, enjoy a quick snack, and rest for a few minutes before continuing your climb. From here, the adventure begins, you climb through staircases made of rocks, bricks, and iron. The path itself feels historic and adventurous. If you get tired on the way, there are a few tiny resting spots before reaching the top, where the breathtaking views will make every step worth it. This is one of the most memorable parts of the Sigiriya experience, and I highly recommend taking a moment to enjoy Lion’s Paw before starting your climb! 🦁✨

1200 steps, comparatively easy for people who are active, super hard for people who are not. Be prepared and dont lose hope. Its worth it.

From this point onwards starts the final clink l climb up to the top and you can reach the top without having to rest since anyway due to steepness of the stairs from this location onwards, crowd moves quite slowly. This is a place where you should take a photograph to remember the place. Also this resembles the cartoon thunder cats since that had an entrance similar to a lions paw.

We had 5 veggie curries with fish and stuffed roties - all super yummy. The service is very attentive, smiling but not intrusive and the place has a positive vibe. All in all a great experience!

Best place we ate at in Sigiriya! The menu was extensive but all the dishes we ordered were really good. The 5 vegetable curry dish was amazing, and the service is the best, super kind people and very very fast (especially for Sri Lanka standards!). 100% would recommend if you are in town.

I went with their village tour twice. Once with a group of friends and secondly with family. Family enjoyed this whole tour . It consists of a bullock cart ride , followed by a ride in a tractor, then boat tour in the lake. Boatmen will drop you off at a hut for lunch and to demonstrate local food cooking techniques. Followed by a tuk-tuk ride to starting point as last activity. Food prepared for us by the local lady was delicious and all family liked it a lot. Recommend to take this with A+

We were taken here by our guide even though we expressed we weren’t really interested in doing this excursion. We especially didn’t want to do the village tour and the home-made lunch as we don’t find this type of activity really that genuine and we always seem to get diarrhoea afterwards… Since we were already there, we asked to only do the boat tour. They eventually accepted it, and took us to the lake by Tuk-Tuk (at least they gave the cows a break, we didn’t want to participate in animal abuse neither). The way there is terrible and the lake boat was enjoyable enough, but you almost see no wildlife and it’s not really worth it in my opinion. The boat man then makes you a necklace from a flower (that part was nice, but of course he expects a tip then). The worst thing was the price, that seemed decided on the spot between the guys over there: 15 000 rupees for 2 persons. Skip it and enjoy your hotel facilities after or before your Sirigiya visit to the Lion Rock.

This tour starts with an oxen/cow pulled cart ride.. seems a little hokey and a bit contrived but stick with it people.. honestly best tour ever! The catamaran is fun and the cooking/village life tour is very very good culminating in the best Sri Lankan meal! All naturally made. This is a must do tour. Highly recommended and excellent value! Take the time… guaranteed you will enjoy.

Great experiencing the village life of Sigiriya. A bullock ride, short tuk tuk to the boat ride on the river, then was made to feel very welcome in the traditional house, where we had cooking lessons and sampled some of the dishes. All in all, it's a very good tour.

Not far from the ancient fortress of Sigiriya and not nearly as well known although the giant statue of the Buddha can be seen from the top of the fortress. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and generally it isn't too crowded.

This beautiful Buddhist temple is located near the local Car park of Sigiriya. There is a tall Buddha's statue and around 100 statues. Recommended place to visit if you are around Sigiriya. the place is clean and well maintained.

A fiery feast before (or after) conquering the Lion Rock! We braved the legendary Tom Yum Kun – spicy enough to wake the Buddha, but oh so worth it! Bold, fragrant, and unapologetically hot – I’d recommend it even if your tongue does a little dance. Then came the Chicken Roti – more of a hearty meal than a snack. Packed with generous chunks of meat and veg, it’s the sort of dish that makes you question whether climbing Sigiriya after lunch was really such a clever idea. You might need a touch of patience – good things do take time here – but the coffee is proper, the service is genuinely warm, and the whole vibe? Lovely. All in all: a top spot to refuel – body and spirit – with flavour, charm, and a dash of chilli-induced euphoria.

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at this hotel in Sigiriya! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. He’s one of the most genuine, attentive, and kind people we’ve ever met. He went above and beyond to make our evening memorable, and his professionalism really stood out. What impressed us most was that, despite having many foreign guests, the staff treated local guests with the same warmth and respect. That level of hospitality is truly commendable and made us feel genuinely valued. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, great food, great atmosphere, and wonderful people. Found this spot on Google and decided to pop in. SADLY the owners don't think Google reviews are important and don't believe Google helps drive customers to them 🤦🏾‍♀️. The place was empty and the owner welcomed us. We knew the menu was catering to foreigners but didn't mind that items were priced higher given that it's a tourist destination. Food took an hour and we knew that the husband-wife duo were making things from scratch for the 6 of us. So we played UNO while we waited (we carry our own cards). Food was ok. It was fun for the kids to see paratha stuffed with honey and banana. The rotis were all made well. The egg Biryani was very basic. The curry was good. The challenge for us came towards the end when we were chatting with the owners and asked for a bill. We were told that no one has ever asked for a receipt and that they don't provide bills. That they just show the final amount in their calculator and everyone accepts it. We insisted on a written receipt and they kept making faces and rolling their eyes at our request. We're a group of two locals, two kids and two foreigners (all one family). We were told that they don't accept locals and only cater to foreigners because locals are usually bothering the foreigners🤷🏾‍♀️. We told them that not all locals are like that and that their price point would have deterred shady people from coming in anyways😂. Overall it was a fun lunch but the owners are a bit shady and put us off from returning or recommending them.

The food here was so delicious we had the breakfast two days in a row (although they are also open for lunch and dinner). The food is freshly prepared for you and the family who runs it are so kind, they even gave us a sample of another dish to try! If you’re coming to Sigiriya definitely add Liya to your list for a meal.

Favorite restaurant in Sigiriya!! Reeeaalllyyy good place with delicious food! We tried the chicken curry with rice and got in addition plenty of other curries like pumpkin, dal... And the portions are big! The picture show two portions of the chicken curry with rice. After we have finished the food we got a small fruit plate, too. Staff is very friendly!

The food is incredible, especially the vegetable Rice & Curry. We also ordered Avocado Salad, which was such a big Portion with perfectly riped Avocado, onions, tomatos and Olives! Also the mango Juice was so sweet, thick and a lot! We came here every day! Our waiter was super friendly and thoughtful.

Tried this restaurant after the Sigiriya sunset visit. Once you walk out from the road, it is a short walk to this stretch of restaurants. Tried the curry chicken which came with rice and few other sides which all tasted good. Also had fresh watermelon juice which was good.

After a huge day coming up from Colombo then a great (but very hot safari) we had one of the best so far in Sri Lanka. Very fast service, big meals (not spicy unless you ask) and cold beer. Definitely recommend this place for the busy traveller

Our local driver recommended us to have lunch here as he thinks it’s a great place. Ahinsa didn’t let him down. We had the most delicious meal there, all local, very good price and excellent service. We went with our son who is not that keen on very spicy food and he had what he said was the best Kottu - now it’s his favourite food and keeps asking for it. I had the best kottu ever had so far served with mango juice made with fresh mangoes. Their service was also good as their food especially the staff named Lakshman who served us was very friendly and looked into our needs. My kids also loved the atmosphere and everything and I will always recommend this restaurant to all my friends who's coming to visit the sigiriya lion rock.

The food here is deilsh! Get the shared curry for 2. It’s 4500 rupees. Could feed 3 people.. So Much food and the flavours are sensational!! Loved the potatoes, okra and chicken curry…. Had to eat with my hands.. so much nicer!! Eaten all around Sri Lanka and this was in my top 2 👍👍🇱🇰

I have no idea how they achieved 4.4 stars with this service. It took a person 30 mins to take our order. Ordered a pork wrap, grilled vegetables, a ginger beer and water. Waited another 90 mins only to get confirmation that they have not started on the order. 2 hours wasted for a meal. Cannot recommend this place to anyone at all. It's a fancy looking place with no integrity. At least the staff was straight forward to inform me that the order was not considered for preparation. Paid for the water and ginger beer and left to a place opposite the location. Food prepared in 10 mins. Picture unrelated to the situation

Atha Resort is perfect. Rooms and grounds are stunningly beautiful, well thought out and sparkling clean. The staff are the best I've ever experienced. They were attentive to our every need and I can't thank them enough for making our first experience of Sri Lanka so special. The food was out of this world. We ate every meal here during our time in Sigiriya and were blown away, every time. The staff took their time to explain everything to us as the cuisine was completely new. A special mention for how well they dealt with my peanut / nut allergy at every meal. The resort is a perfect base for exploring Sigiriya in terms of location. Sigiriya rock is a 10 minute Tuktuk journey. Thank you Atha Resort for a perfect stay and welcoming us to your beautiful country.

Service was friendly and proactive. Breakfast was delicious the 2 days we had them. Dinner-wise, Kade Mix was below par; chicken was super tough and dry. Cheese kottu was delicious. Room was generally comfortable. My only issue was the hairdryer plug didn't stay in their in-house-provided multi-plug. Had to hold the plug in to use the hairdryer. Water heater also ran out of hot water fast. You'd do well to wait if someone else had a longer shower first. Also, there weren't any chairs or seats inside the room. We carried the patio chair to have somewhere to sit when we ordered room service. Wifi reliable. Bed and pillows made for good sleep.

We had a fantastic stay at Atha Resort. The location is excellent – very close to the village and to highlights like Lion Rock. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty, and the service throughout was great. Our personal highlight was our driver and local guide, Dammika. He made our time in Sigiriya truly special – a kind and knowledgeable person who showed us local life, invited us for tea and hoppers with friends, and guided us around with his tuk-tuk. Meeting him was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Sri Lanka.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. Bungalows surrounded by nature. We were lucky enough to have rain and to hear it falling on the bungalow roof. Waking up to the sounds of animals outside, and falling asleep to the same — just fabulous! The food was wonderfully prepared and varied every day. Dedicated service. Friendly, kind staff, always ready to explain everything and to give their very best. The pool was amazing, both by day and by night! A wonderful hotel in the middle of the jungle!

It's been an amazing stay in this small hotel outside of Sigiriya! The hotel property is beautiful and well maintained. The staff was amazing, welcoming and helped with every kind of request as well. The breakfast was served as a set menu with so many options from fruit and continental to Sri Lankan food. The service was exceptional! Sigiriya is a little too far away to walk but it's only a few minutes by Tuk Tuk or car.

We had a wonderful stay at Atha Resort in Sigiriya. A special mention goes to the waiters Ravindu and Asela – they were always incredibly attentive, caring and genuinely friendly. All the other staff members greeted us with a smile at all times, which made the atmosphere even more welcoming. The rooms were very clean and tidied up every day, which made us feel extremely comfortable. We also booked a private Jeep Safari to Minneriya National Park through the resort. Everything was perfectly organized, and our guide Ranga was very knowledgeable, friendly and made the experience truly memorable. The food at the hotel was excellent and reasonably priced. We can highly recommend Atha Resort and truly appreciate the warm hospitality we experienced during our stay.

This hotel is just perfect I loved every detail especially the servicd there. There is one guy on the reception called Ishan he tried his best to speak with us English and guide us in every tour we wanted with a full smile on his face all the time just as all the employees. Also all the srilankan people are amazing very humble helpful and always smiling and super modest. I loved the food there at their restaurant. The set , the pool,the ambiance and literally everything it was a stunning experience I'll highly recommend it.

A decent budget accommodation with top shelf hosts! The room was clean and comfortable enough with an especially inviting patio. What made this place, though, was the family running it. Gayan greeted me with an infectious smile and warm eyes; extending his hand for a shake. Upon arrival I was presented with my choice of tea or coffee which I enjoyed on the patio. In the morning breakfast was delivered as soon as it is noticed that I had woken. Big thanks to Gayan’s sister who went out of her way to return a glove which was stolen from my patio table by a mischievous pup. This place is a fine choice for budget minded travelers passing through Sigiriya.

Asela was a great driver. I found him on line for an airport pickup from Sigiriya airport to Habarana. I engaged him on the following two days also (one for a morning tour) and then to take me to Kandy (with stops of interest on the way). Highly recommended.

We booked a taxi with Saif from Sigiriya to Hikkaduwa (including a stop in Negombo). Everything went smoothly, and communication via WhatsApp was easy. The value for money is also excellent compared to providers like Bookaway.com.

Asela and his brother were consistently punctual and cautious drivers. They arrived on time for all three occasions we booked them. When we encountered a flood that blocked the car, Asela arranged a tuk tuk for free to transport us to the hotel, ensuring we didn't have to wait for the heavy rain to cease. Both cars they provided were clean and comfortable. Their reliability and fair pricing make them a trustworthy choice!!

We did all our transfert from different places in Sri Lanka , they were always on time, the drivers were very nice and the prices are more than correct . I really recommend this company .

We booked and had a great half day trip to Polonnaruwa from Sigiriya. Driver waited whilst we did the visit of the old city. Allow 2 hours. Plus time at the museum. Driver also organised bikes - don’t expect modern ones, but they do the job! Price was better than hotel. Car was very clean. Air conditioning of course. Driver was efficient but not whizzing all the time, very calm - protecting his car and us! Thank you.

Asela was our driver from Sigiriya to Wilpattu and from Sigiriya to Pollonaruwa. On both trips, he was already waiting for us outside our hotel in the early morning hours. He was an incredibly safe driver and pointed out meaningful landmarks along the way. On both trips, we didn’t get to eat breakfast at our hotel because of the early departure times and Asela was kind enough to find us bakeries along the road where we could grab a snack and coffee. During our day at Pollonaruwa, he helped us to rent bikes and drove us to an additional area with temples that were too far by bike. He truly went out of his way to ensure that we were safe and comfortable. We would recommend Asela to friends and family and would absolutely request his services when we return to Sri Lanka.

We went with DTB travel to the Habarana Eco Park and it was a very fun experience. We stood up in the safari 4wd with the roof taken off and the driver and assistant did a great job in spotting lots of elephants and putting the car in a position that was good for viewing and also respectful to the elephants. They didn't give much commentary but they did tell us some interesting facts and were friendly. Highly recommend this experience - it was very special.

Absolutely breathtaking experience doing an afternoon safari with DTB in Minneriya! They managed to accommodate us very last minute, which was fantastic. Our guide, Tharanga, made sure to not break the park limits in terms of speed and distance to the animals, whilst we saw other safari guides going far too close, so we felt very good in our choice. He parked and waited patiently so the animals ended up coming close to us without any force. The prices were also brilliant considering that it was a private safari, the car was incredibly comfortable, and our guide was very thoughtful, making sure we had everything we needed. If you’re going to do a safari this is the one to choose 🐘

We did the Safari Tour early in the morning and it was amazing! We saw elephants and also some other animals. During our tour we also stopped at a rock and climbed up- the view was beautiful. I would totally recommend the tour also because our driver Shanta explained a lot and driving with him in his Jeep was so much fun! He made sure we had a great time. If you go to Sigiriya make sure to go on his Safari tour.

We did a safari in Minneriya Park with family and had an absolutely amazing time. We saw lots of elephants — big herds, including babies — and even spotted a fox, which was a nice surprise! The scenery was beautiful and peaceful, with plenty of open space and lakes. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and he made sure we had the best spots to observe the animals without disturbing them. Highly recommend for families and nature lovers. It’s a magical place to see wild elephants in their natural habitat.

Had a good and fun jeep ride to Minneriya National Park with Santha who is helpful and attentive to your needs! Recommended!

Everyone, who visits Sigiriya have to do this tour. And if you want to have an experience, you have to do the tour with Shanta. He knows a lot about the parc and the animals, he is very friendly and show you beside the “main tourist spots” his own spots. I would recommend the tour in the morning. So it has a special charm ;)

I walked past and the guy said ‘please come and look at my art’ and I just couldn’t resist. He was so happy and friendly, and made beautiful trinkets out of art. I just had to get a bookmark for me and my mum, they’re handmade which makes them perfect. And only 1000lkr which was a bargain. It’s made of brass so it does need a clean, but he also explains how a bit of lemon or lime should help that!

We stopped in the afternoon there, very nice small house with friendly family. Because I wanted to take 6 bookmarks, he wrote down the names and prepared it in the morning. It’s AMAZING but please be aware of the crowds and the heat we went at 8:30am in the morning and it was already packed! The positive is is that they have organised a way in and out so the constant flow of people keeps everything moving! An absolute MUST!

A lot of people wrote that $35 is a rip-off, but they don't understand why the price point is important. Whenever a place becomes an attraction for free or very cheap, most people start treating the environment very poorly, throwing rubbish in the middle of the pathway or up on top. I was very happy coming here as the view is impressive, it wasn't crowded, and you can meditate up there without any problems. And then watching the frescoes is so wonderful. I love the fact that you cannot fly drones or take pictures of the frescoes. You guys are doing an amazing job preserving such an incredible wonder.

Sigriya visit was once in a lifetime for me. Its a historical place and worth a visit to see the ancient construction and paintings

It was a nice experience but it is far too expensive. Sri lanka is really stretching the price on tourist spots like this one. Things have to be worth the money. This feels more like a trap.

I can’t believe how good the food is here!!!!! The prawn skewers came with a crispy potato, rice, salad, poppadom, sauce and vegetables! And the garden is so cute. Definitely recommend.

Came here for dinner tonight on a recommendation, and it did not disappoint. Cute restaurant, nice drinks list (with delicious cocktails) and amazing rice and curry cooked fresh to order. You get 6 small bowls of curry (or 7 if you order a fish or meat curry as well).

Had lunch here on my arrival day before going to Sigiriya Rock. It was empty as I ate at 3pm and also due to low season there is no crowd. Tried the garlic rice with curry prawns which was freshly cooked so it took some time. Prices are reasonable and I read that it is usually busy and difficult to get seats.

Wow, it was amazing food! We are not big fans of local food but here it is in a modern version and we really enjoyed it! You should try Honey Garlic Chicken or Sweet Sour Chicken. Also fresh juices were amazing.

During our short stay in Sigiriya, my boyfriend and I went to this restaurant 4 times for dinner! Their rice and curry was amazing and their drinks so refreshing and delicious! The staff are so welcoming and kind and we felt so relaxed and comfortable there! Highly recommended!!

After almost one month in Sri Lanka, this has been the best vegetable and rice curry! The chicken fried rice was delicious too. La dolce vita was wonderful to stay at. The grounds and pool are beautiful and rooms are cosy and well maintained (also huge). But the staff are the highlight, so kind and attentive and the Sri Lankan breakfast was amazing! Thank you for our stay.

We had a very great time at La Dolce Vita. The rooms are liked described/shown and with only five rooms not crowed. The service was very great and the food (breakfast & dinner) very delicious. The highlight was the newly build pool, where you can relax after your sight seeing tours. Also they organized us tucked tucks for the day and a cap to Kandy. We would for sure come back again.

We loved this gorgeous hideaway in the jungle of Sigiriya! The pool was lovely and well shaded by mid afternoon. The rooms were clean and tidy with a balcony that overlooks the beautiful view of the pool. Easy walk into “town” albeit just a few hundred metres of restaurants and shops. The included breakfast was delicious and so nicely set out when served to us each morning in the lovely garden. We also chose to eat here one night for dinner and the food was again tasty and fresh. The most wonderful part of our stay at La Dolce Vita was the attentive staff which interestingly were all male (very common in Sri Lanka). They went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. It had a homestay feel and we would recommend to anybody wanting a great place to stay in Sigiriya.

Highly recommend. We really loved our stay here! 3 nights in this jungle paradise, very quiet away from the road, perfect walking distance to the restaurants and the hikes. You really don't need a driver here as everything is close by. The gardens are beautifully kept and the breakfast was lovely. We woke up to beautiful nature and tea/coffee breakfast . Was perfect for us 🥰

There's no doubt the food in Sri Lanka is amazing and the Shenadi Resturaunt delivered one of our best dining experiences during our stay. The authentic curries were made to order, fresh and delicious. The excellent service provided by this family operated business is so Sri Lankan. Enjoy the cheap prices including beer inside or take in the atmosphere outside. Thank you Shenadi's you are fantastic!

The restaurant was great for the price. It's not a fancy spot, so don’t expect anything too extraordinary. It’s a local place with friendly staff, and for what you pay, it’s really good overall. I’d definitely recommend it. The devilled chicken, in particular, was delicious and you should try it.

Love auntie here and reminds me of grandma's. However, we didn't like the roti as it was more biscuit like. Everything else was decent altho not amazing as other reviewers say. Breakfast service was slow, literally saw the uncle coming back with bags of food to prep when we ordered.

We had an absolutely fantastic dinner at this charming local restaurant. The chicken curry with roti and the chicken curry with vegetables and rice were both excellent. Flavorful, fresh, and just the right amount of spice. The owners were super kind and welcoming. After dinner, they even helped us find a tuk-tuk back to our hotel and made sure we got a fair price. Really appreciated that extra help! Would definitely recommend if you're looking for good local food and friendly service.

Great food! Had veggie Kothu and veggie roti and curries. Beetroot green bean aubergine and dhal. Scrumptious and fresh tasting. Maybe a bit too oily but otherwise yummy. Had a coconut latte too which was nice. Lovely people. Lots of bugs haha but that’s expected.

Fabulous place, great people and amazing food! Games on the tables if you like to play. We came three nights in a row and tried different things each time and they were all delicious. They even helped us get a tuk tuk back to our hotel :) Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic shopping experience here today. We are visiting from Sydney Australia and my Mrs wanted some batik clothing. We were very early in shop and we were their first customers. The day being holy day in the Hindu Calendar we were literally provided with a yummy vegetarian breaky. The shop assistants Sinthuja, Thanujah and Mahalukshmi were of great help to my Mrs in selecting what she wanted very effectively, professionally and in very friendly manner. I strongly recommend this place for having a wide selection, professional customer service and value for money. Keep up the good work guys. We bought an indian frock from pettah branch they gave us a frock that someone used. Foundation mark was in the neckline of the frock we asked them to change it before pack but they packed this shit.

We had the worst customer experience at this saree shop. The staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional, with no courtesy whatsoever. Instead of assisting us, they insisted on us buying items even when we made it clear we weren’t interested. It's a place I would never return to, and I strongly advise others to avoid it if they value good customer service. A true shopping nightmare!

Really great experience! We started off at Minneriya but our guide told us that it was too crowded and took us to Kaudalla instead: beautiful park almost all to ourselves on one of the busiest days!

The elephants are the main attraction here and you can visit by a jeep safari. The elephants move around, so you might see them at Mineriya instead. The jeep ride is Adventure and the driver knew where the elephants were, at the lake and very used to the 10+ jeeps! so we were able to get very close and got some great photos. Best time to see them is around 3 pm, so allow an hour before that to get to the lake. We saw a huge herd of around 200 elephants, some as young as a month old who very well protected by the older ones but were playful and chasing the birds. There were also water buffalo lying down in the lake to cool off and a huge variety of birds in the shallows. Definitely the highlight of the trip. Highly recommend " Srilanka elephant safari " Tours. Safe & Well organised ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tips for foreign travellers: Location: Can be quite tricky to find, however it is relatively obvious as there’s a shelter. Ask local/your hotel to ensure. Travelling to Kandy: 1) There’s a direct bus (no comfort break) departing from Sigiriya to Kandy which departs at 6:30am daily. Journey takes abt 3 hours (depending on traffic). 2) Do ask for ticket/receipt & if required, insist to pay as soon as you board + getting the receipt. I took the bus this morning and the 2 conductors didn’t ask for money from the 2 foreigners inside the bus (me and another guy). However, they took money from all the locals as soon as they board and gave them a slip/ticket/receipt. When we reached Kandy bus station and the locals are disembarking, the conductor asked for 1000 LKR each from me and the foreign guy… whereas normal tix costs about 200 LKR!!! 3) Try to board from 1st departure point, the bus gets busy and you may not get seat for the entire journey. Though a lot of people disembark at Dambulla (abt 30 min onto the journey). However, people get on/get off all throughout the journey. Best to secure seat asap.

Gotta agree with majority of the reviews here. The view is amazing! No doubt about that. The service and the facilities have a lot more room for improvement though. We tried their fried rice and the noodles and they both were very good though the quantity was slightly lesser than other similar places for that price. Nevertheless, we had a lovely time there, even during the sunny afternoon since it had a lot of shade from the surrounding trees.

We watched sunset at Sigiriya Lion Face and had a beautiful evening. The views are just stunning 😍. Lion beer watching lion rock, what’s not to love.

Fantastic view but the service/ food was terrible. We waited around 30 minutes for a coke and a water and over an hour for our food. We would have been more understanding however when it arrived it was just plain chicken in a roti. We did tell the server but they didn’t say much.

We ate here two days in a row. On the first day, I opted for the Sri Lankan spice curry. It was wonderful food and a wonderful experience 🔥 Plus, it's a very atmospheric place with a view of Lion Rock and friendly service. I recommend it 100%.

We loved this place so much that we came back the next evening! The food is authentic Sri Lankan cuisine with huge portions. Everything we tried was delicious, especially the chicken curry and the veggie curry with rice or parata – and the Kotu Roti was incredible! The staff were all extremely polite and friendly. The interior is quite simple and randomly put together, but in a charming and funny way. We’d absolutely recommend this place to anyone!

We liked that we received some chili sauce/oil so that we could add spice to our dish ourselves. The staff also took good care of us and was able to fulfill all our extra demands.

Very busy and popular restaurant. Great food. Nice and spicy for once (no where else is spicy). Ordered the chicken curry and rice and got a great selection of curries for just 1800 and also ordered the chicken Kotthu and it was s a huge portion. Also got given the best colourful popadoms for free starters ever I have been thinking about them ever since they were soo yummy like buttery popcorn. Drinks were 800 each.

We had BBQ prawns with kotu and fresh juice, absolutely delicious 😍 We had for dessert fruits and koti chocolate, it was wonderful! Great value for money, generous portions and authentic flavors.
