Where to eat: the 50 best restaurants in Sigiriya

We ordered the chicken curry with rice, deviled prawns, fried banana dessert and a pineapple juice. The banana dessert was delicious, crispy on the outside, soft and mushy on the inside, the only thing missing was some ice cream. We asked for our food to be spicy but it was nowhere close, the chicken curry and rice came with 6 condiments, all of which were bland and spiced with only salt and pepper. There was a green bean curry which was completely raw. The mango curry and chicken curry were tasty, but nothing great. The deviled prawns tasted like tomato ketchup.

I visited the Wijesiri family restaurant for dinner on March 31, 2025. Although the staff were friendly, they struggled with English. I started with a passion fruit mojito, which was incredibly fresh and delicious, leaving me feeling revitalized after a long day. The view is also great; you can enjoy watching people, and vehicles stroll by on the street. I found it difficult to decide on a meal due to the many options but opted for the safe choice of rice curry. It was served with white rice and several bowls of accompaniments, though I couldn’t quite identify them due to the language barrier. The dish was tasty—not perfect, but it satisfied my hunger. I ordered a latte, which unfortunately didn’t meet my expectations in terms of flavor. The prices were reasonable, and I noticed the place was quite busy with foreign patrons. My driver recommended this restaurant, and while I can only speak to my own experience, I think it’s worth a visit.

Delicious rice with curry! Freshly prepared and served with love. We love the special beetroot curry, and the tomato and egg drop soup. Enjoyed dinner here in this cozy restaurant.

Overall, it was a good experience. We arrived a bit late for dinner but were still welcomed and kindly attended to by the staff. We had the chicken curry, which came with plenty of side dishes and was very tasty. The only point to mention is that the portion of chicken could have been a bit more generous, but apart from that, everything was great. Ah, and the beer was one of the coldest I’ve had in Sri Lanka! Lovely local food and a nice atmosphere!

THE BEST TASTING FOOD I'VE HAD IN SIGIRIYA!! The food was delicious and so fresh! I had Dal, Coconut Sambe and Egg Roti with a mango lassi. The lassi was so fresh and the best I've tried. The roti was so crispy and such a generous portion size! And the rest was incredible too! Such a kind hospitable family running the restaurant, great conversation and very welcoming 😄. I love the vibe of the place. You can tell from all the comments on the walls, how amazing this place is. So happy we found it on our last day here. We'll be coming back for dinner too 😃. Best prices I've seen too!!

This place was a joke. We received a tiny plate of fries, smaller than a mobile phone, and they charged us 950 rupees for it. Absolutely not worth it.

The food is incredible, especially the vegetable Rice & Curry. We also ordered Avocado Salad, which was such a big Portion with perfectly riped Avocado, onions, tomatos and Olives! Also the mango Juice was so sweet, thick and a lot! We came here every day! Our waiter was super friendly and thoughtful.

Tried this restaurant after the Sigiriya sunset visit. Once you walk out from the road, it is a short walk to this stretch of restaurants. Tried the curry chicken which came with rice and few other sides which all tasted good. Also had fresh watermelon juice which was good.

After a huge day coming up from Colombo then a great (but very hot safari) we had one of the best so far in Sri Lanka. Very fast service, big meals (not spicy unless you ask) and cold beer. Definitely recommend this place for the busy traveller

Our local driver recommended us to have lunch here as he thinks it’s a great place. Ahinsa didn’t let him down. We had the most delicious meal there, all local, very good price and excellent service. We went with our son who is not that keen on very spicy food and he had what he said was the best Kottu - now it’s his favourite food and keeps asking for it. But that first one is the most memorable. Highly recommend this place to anyone

I had the best kottu ever had so far served with mango juice made with fresh mangoes. Their service was also good as their food especially the staff named Lakshman who served us was very friendly and looked into our needs. My kids also loved the atmosphere and everything and I will always recommend this restaurant to all my friends who's coming to visit the sigiriya lion rock.

The food here is deilsh! Get the shared curry for 2. It’s 4500 rupees. Could feed 3 people.. So Much food and the flavours are sensational!! Loved the potatoes, okra and chicken curry…. Had to eat with my hands.. so much nicer!! Eaten all around Sri Lanka and this was in my top 2 👍👍🇱🇰

Great food with typical Sri Lanka dishes. We tried the vegetable roti, egg koththu and chicken curry and they were all delicious. The fresh juices are also amazing! The staff is very kind and welcoming! We definitely recommend this restaurant if you come to Sigirya.

Although the restaurant is currently under construction, it still had a great atmosphere and was clearly popular. We arrived before the rush, and soon after they were having to turn people away. The beers were served nice and cold, which was a bonus! We ordered the vegetable curry selection, which included mango curry, green bean, pumpkin, and dahl, served with white rice, sambal, and popadoms. The green bean curry and the dahl were especially enjoyable. The pumpkin wasn’t quite to our taste, but that was more personal preference than anything to do with the quality. The food was flavourful overall, and we appreciated that they offered extra servings—more popadoms at no additional cost. We finished by sharing a chocolate and banana roti, which was delicious. Great value for money and a tasty meal. Would return!

Kenoli's Chicken Koththu has my heart ❤️ Probably the best Koththu I've eaten in SriLanka 🔥🌱 The staff here are really nice and friendly which makes the food so much more special. They check with you on your spice tolerance for every dish you order, and you can request for any specific customisations for your meal. ✨ P.S: You can request for a beer outside the menu along with your food. They have a designated smoking area which they'll guide you to if you them.

Absolutely amazing rice and curry! The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, constantly checking in to see if we wanted more (free of charge!). We loved it so much that we came back the next day and brought our friends. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Just arrived in Sigiriya and the first thing we wanted to do was eat at this restaurant, and it did not disappoint! What a lovely chicken curry with rice, dhal and popadoms, for such a great price. The waiter was very attentive and kept asking if we wanted more rice or dhal. I also had a lime juice and it was the best one I have ever had We will be back 100% Thankyou 🙏🏻

We had dinned in Kenoli two times and bouth where amaizing. For all three of us portion size was massive. Everything was delicious. For our suprise in fish curry there where bite size tuna pieces that where meaty and delicious. Service was good. We made our order and drinks came 3-5 min atfer that. Other places we usually we should wait atleast 15 min to get our drinks and food takes around 20-25 min.

We ate here two days in a row. On the first day, I opted for the Sri Lankan spice curry. It was wonderful food and a wonderful experience 🔥 Plus, it's a very atmospheric place with a view of Lion Rock and friendly service. I recommend it 100%.

We loved this place so much that we came back the next evening! The food is authentic Sri Lankan cuisine with huge portions. Everything we tried was delicious, especially the chicken curry and the veggie curry with rice or parata – and the Kotu Roti was incredible! The staff were all extremely polite and friendly. The interior is quite simple and randomly put together, but in a charming and funny way. We’d absolutely recommend this place to anyone!

Great place, great food and great service. Lots of meat in the curry and they will keep bringing you more until you are full for no extra charge! They also give a good amount of meat in the curry compared to other places I’ve been in Sri Lanka. Very delicious variety of curry dishes are offered. We were able to taste six different types and all of them tasted very delicious. We liked that we received some chili sauce/oil so that we could add spice to our dish ourselves. The staff also took good care of us and was able to fulfill all our extra demands.

Very busy and popular restaurant. Great food. Nice and spicy for once (no where else is spicy). Ordered the chicken curry and rice and got a great selection of curries for just 1800 and also ordered the chicken Kotthu and it was s a huge portion. Also got given the best colourful popadoms for free starters ever I have been thinking about them ever since they were soo yummy like buttery popcorn. Drinks were 800 each.

We had BBQ prawns with kotu and fresh juice, absolutely delicious 😍 We had for dessert fruits and koti chocolate, it was wonderful! Great value for money, generous portions and authentic flavors. Ummm wow love this place so much and wish I was staying longer so I could eat there again!! The service was sooo friendly I had a great chat to one of the staff. The chicken wrap with fresh potato was delicious!!!! I don’t know what they did to the potatoes in particular but they were divine! It is the cutest restaurant with so many cool places to sit and eat your food as well as volleyball next door and a rope swing! I would recommend this to everyone to check out. And as the slogan says “it feels like home”.

This place in Dambulla offers a unique dining experience with a really nice atmosphere. The food was tasty, but the wrap was the standout – incredibly filling and definitely worth trying. 😋

This place is an absolute gem! Such a cool vibe here, comfy seats/chill areas and some tables more suited to eating too. Even a big cinema screen out the back as well! Beautiful cocktails, cold beers and the tastiest bbq plate 😍

Great place to hang out in Sigiriya for a drink or a meal. Prices fair for the area, good value place to hang out in the evening. Gets pretty busy and a good social vibe. Nice natural setting. The reggae here is a bit unusual and feels a bit ai, why not play real reggae? Food can be fairly average but big portions.

Had the Chicken BBQ platter. Delicious. Fresh salad and rices. Ice cold Lion beer to go with. A member of the party had the vegetarian BBQ which they did not enjoy.

Very nice restaurant with chill vibe. They have really nice drinks and amazing food. BBQ was serving since 6pm so we had to wait a bit, but it was totally worth it. Staff was very nice and sweet. We came for lunch next day as well😁. 10/10 😊

Me and my friend was just here with our guide and was supposed to get a “friends” price. We were staying in one room with a spare bed put into it. We got a worse rate than the one online, obviously we complained, but we feel very tricked and have really lost the trust for this place and our guide. We it was a cooking night as the hostel we had the rice and curry which you can also see in the picture is very overpriced.

Awful experience with them. I don’t write many reviews but this deserves one for future travellers. Especially as this is more expensive than elsewhere for private rooms I booked a private room that didn’t exist when I turned up. They put me in another room that I had specifically avoided booking. The room was pretty dirty and had holes in the ceiling to the outside that an animal must have chewed through. Some holes had been stuffed with tissue paper to block them up haha. No mosquito protection either I think the owner and other people working there were stoned and didn’t want to deal with resolving the issue. They tried to fob me off to other rooms (ones without the AC I booked). They kept walking off rather than actually sorting the issue with me. I eventually agreed to stay one night in the room at a discounted rate. Even after this I ended up leaving when I realised there were rats or mice scrambling around in between the ceiling and roof of the room, with direct access inside due to the holes. I still haven’t received a refund of my deposit amount and it’s the worst accommodation experience I have had travelling anywhere in the world. They still have the fake rooms listed the last I checked even after telling them and they owner pretending it was an accident lol. They also operate under the name Green senz on Hostelworld Crap room, crap service. Lost a day of my trip over this and missed out on booking better accommodation as had to find somewhere quick. Go elsewhere and pay half the price for much better. I am very disappointed with it all. See photos of holes in ceiling and absolutely disgusting hot tub outside. Unfortunate really as it has the bones to be a good place but is just awful instead

Great place to stay in Sigiriya.. Friendly staff and super big clean rooms with aircondition and hot water, Super friendly host and they are guiding you all to do the best activities around.. Good food in the hostel and if you like burgers, next to the hostel they recently open the Burger restaurant, we had Burgers and they are Best.. Thank you guys and all the Best..

Had a great stay at One more night hostel. They organized multiple trips, cooking class, bbq, … if you had to go to the bus stop, they would offer to drop you off there. Really helpful! Rooms were spacious and nice bunks, but only fans, no ac so it got warm in the night. Bathroom was okay, could use a clean though. Overall loved my stay, loved the social vibe and good atmosphere for backpackers. Would recommend!

The best hostel I've stayed in so far in Sri Lanka. The owners are super friendly and help you with any problem. They give you lots of helpful tips and help you book activities. The atmosphere is great and you quickly feel at home. You also quickly get to know other people. Breakfast is included and is also very good. When I was there, there was also a very good dinner every evening.

Amazing hostel in the middle of the jungle, perfect place where you can meet other travellers, chill out and share moments with others. Every day they do differents activities, we participated in a cooking class and they explained us how to cook the real rice and curry and then we hate all together. I really recommend it ❤️🥹

Veg curry and rice was excellent with a nice variety of curries. Kottu roti was good, although it did not need ketchup on the plate 🤷‍♂️ Dahl was a small portion and the veggie samosa was disappointingly small (drizzled with ketchup, again! 🤷‍♂️). Better prices than most in the neighbourhood. Overall fine, but nothing special.

Wonderful cooking class experience! I walked past this place on a morning walk and inquired about the cooking classes noted on their sign. There are many such classes offered in the restaurants along the road. This one felt appealing, as they have a big airy outdoor area and the place seemed authentic, yet well maintained. The young son was able to communicate well in English. I was quoted a fair price that was just a bit more than a restaurant meal for us four, for our two young kids included free. We arranged for a cooking class to take place mid-day as our lunch and told them about our favorite dishes eaten so far in Sri Lanka. Mom, her son and the grandmother gathered ingredients in the outdoors area and we started cooking together. There were no long introductions or explanations about the ingredients, we started learning by doing, and soon our two children and us were immersed in the cooking of our favorite dishes. They were very friendly with our kids. Mom and her son had some ingredients prepared, such as the Kottu "pasta", but nearly all other things we made from scratch, like the dough for Roti, and all curries. Two coconuts were freshly opened for us and the coconut milk and shredded coconut used. We were not handed a recipe but we were able to note down the steps on our phone's notes app as we cooked, and took some photos. We asked about the ingredients and mom and her son explained them to us patiently while they involved us all in the preparation of the dishes. The food turned out delicious and we were very grateful for the authentic private experience. The whole cooking process took us about two hours. When you see how much work it is to freshly prepare quality dishes, you appreciate the sometimes longer wait in Sri Lankan restaurants a lot more. I felt this is truly a role model business for Sri Lanka to charge the honest, fair price quoted, rather unpleasant demands for more money in the end like some drivers and tours elsewhere. As the price was fair and the family is so good in their heart, we voluntarily paid more, since we were all four very satisfied with our delicious meal, and it was so much food that we could not finish it. Also our kids really like the Sri Lankan food l, so it was really a meal for four. I noted in another review that there was miscommunication about a tip, in our case the son verified twice if we indeed had wanted to pay the gratuity. We recommend this place to all travelers that enjoy an authentic, private family cooking experience, not expecting a fancy cooking studio. Please keep up your wonderful welcoming and upright business ethics and all the best for your family.

The chicken crispy burger was fantastic! The best I had in the island so far! The portion is very big, everything is fresh and home-made with huge dedication and excellent service from Mom’s son - he is the best man ⭐️ must go when you are in Sigiriya!

We had an amazing time at the cooking class. We made a complete vegan cooking class and learned so much ! Everything we cooked was truly amazing.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Honestly, where do I even start? This place is a joke. First, we ordered drinks… which apparently had to be fetched from a few shops away on a scooter. Are you kidding me? I could’ve just brought my own and saved the hassle. Second, we ordered 2x fried rice, specifically without chili. I cook fried rice myself – it takes 5–7 minutes tops. Yet we waited 45 minutes before the chef even bothered to start cooking. Unacceptable. And if that wasn’t enough, my meal arrived 10 minutes before my girlfriend’s, forcing us to eat at completely different times. Oh, and the best part? Both dishes had chili anyway, and the flavor was just terrible. If you enjoy ridiculously long waits, sloppy cooking, and pathetic service, go ahead and waste your time here. Otherwise, stay far, far away.

So far the best food place in Sri Lanka I‘ve been to. We even went there two times because we liked it so much. We also got invited to watch Sheyan cook the dinner and we felt very welcome due to the nice talks with Sheyan. We got to know some interesting things about Sri Lanka. The atmosphere was also very special as it was right in nature. Very recommended to go there! Everything was amazing! Thanks a lot!

This is a hidden gem in the forest. Highly recommend. It is a great value for money. The service was excellent, the people are friendly and if I had not done it before they offer cooking class too. If you are in Sigiryia, you should pay a visit for a meal :)

There's no doubt the food in Sri Lanka is amazing and the Shenadi Resturaunt delivered one of our best dining experiences during our stay. The authentic curries were made to order, fresh and delicious. The excellent service provided by this family operated business is so Sri Lankan. Enjoy the cheap prices including beer inside or take in the atmosphere outside. Thank you Shenadi's you are fantastic!

The restaurant was great for the price. It's not a fancy spot, so don’t expect anything too extraordinary. It’s a local place with friendly staff, and for what you pay, it’s really good overall. I’d definitely recommend it. The devilled chicken, in particular, was delicious and you should try it.

Love auntie here and reminds me of grandma's. However, we didn't like the roti as it was more biscuit like. Everything else was decent altho not amazing as other reviewers say. Breakfast service was slow, literally saw the uncle coming back with bags of food to prep when we ordered.

We went for a lunch after climbing Sigiriya. We called Mr Asantha, owner and asked him to prepare lunch for 30 pax. He was more than happy to serve us. We were amazed at the very moment we stepped in coz the ambience was very much pleasent. Its a open typre restaurant where dining and cooking happns in the same area. It was very clean and very tidy. When it comes to food, all th dishes are tasted very good. Starting from the soup till th end from curd and treacle everything was delicious and our gang had a good time in terms of food. Staff was very helpfull and I must stress that compared to other restaurants, Mr Asantha offered us a very good price for the buffet lunch. All in all we werr very happy with the food and the restaurant setup. I recommend it to any one who visit sigiriya. Stop by and have a meal. Its worthy. My request to the restaurant is that please do not drop the standards you maintain now. Keep up the good work.

We have just spent 2 nights in this excellent resort. The rooms were spacious, clean and well appointed. The restaurant provided plentiful and delicious meals. The staff were attentive and the service was exemplary. Of particular note, Harris and Nitila provided outstanding service to our party of 4.

All the family really enjoyed our stay at Lario Resort. The staff is so welcoming, nice and professional! Special thanks to Haris who was so helpful and nice with our kids. The hotel is well equipped, rooms are large and modern (we booked a family room with one bed in a mezzanine for the kids). The included breakfast has local and western options. Our recent three night stay at Lario Resort was a genuine highlight of our wider trip to Sri Lanka. We were hosted with such warmth and genuine hospitality. All staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable, always greeting us with a smile and engaging with our two children even during busy service times. This spirit was truly embodied by 'Haris' who was a real gentleman and took the time to make a genuine fuss of us as a family, talking at length to our kids about various things including their mutual interest of cricket to even smuggling them some late night hoppers from a private BBQ. The property itself is well maintained, with a nice pool area which we made full use of between our various trips out. The kids also loved that the family room had a loft area with their beds allowing them their own space. Asides from breakfast, we ate numerous meals at the hotel which were all great. The staff were also happy to accommodate some small western palettes as required. The location was a little remote (which we welcomed) but proved an ideal base for our trips to Dembulla, Sigiriya Rock and Minneriya National Park. Sigiriya Town is also accessible by Tuk Tuk which we visited on a couple of evenings. Hand on heart, we would recommend Lario Resort to anyone looking for a base to explore the Sigiriya region Thank you for a truly memorable stay.

Room was spacious but there was a terrible sewage smell from the toilet (room 105). To make matters worse, the toilet door could not be completely closed and you could get the smell from the room as well. We paid extra USD 20 for dinner thinking we would get a buffet dinner but were later told that only a set meal would be served because it was low season and there was not much crowd. The staff were good though.

Very lovely hotel, amazing!!!!! service and people, amazing surprise for our honeymoon, nice clean rooms, the food is spectacular, the most delicious we had in the island. If you want to go see the Golden Kind Temple, Buddha or The Lion Rock, it’s THE best location.But… First day we didn’t have cold water and it was boiling hot, next morning we took cold shower, because there was no hot water… Hope they will fix it. Also, husband didn’t swim in their nice pool, after he saw dogs (they are not watched on their property, but harmless) drinking from the pool and the guy sweeping dirt from around the pool into the pool.

I ate here twice during my stay in Sigiriya. Super friendly owner, asked for Sri Lankan spicy and it was delivered. First meal I had the curry chicken set menu. Chicken was just a small drumstick but the other accompanying dishes were delicious, especially the spicy tomato salad. Second meal was chicken kotthu and a vegetable omelette. The chicken in the kotthu was on the dry side. The vegetable omelette was pretty standard just fried eggs with vegetables. Their coconut sambal is very tasty. My first meal was a set that included dessert but I declined the dessert but was still charged for the set with dessert as opposed to the set without dessert. I think this was just a slight oversight. I tip generously so it wasn’t about the money but it’d be nice if I were charged accordingly. Otherwise, I enjoyed my meals here and would recommend them. Long wait for the pizza margherita but oh so worth it! Pleasantly surprised with the taste and quality. Vegetable kotthu was nice too. Nice staff. Bit pricey but as expected being so close to such a touristy spot.

Nice place to eat. They serve both local and western food. We were 2 and went with local: rice and set of curries, soup, vegetable roti. Rice&curries were delicious, vegetable roti too. Also, a few pieces of fruits were brought afterward as part of rice&curry. And it was a great ending of the meal.

Overprice place. Taste is normal. Portion size not enough. Very small quantity of chicken available in their chicken fried rice. There are no parking space. You can park side of the road.

Best restaurant in Sigiriya!! We ate here 3 times during our stay in the village because the food is the best in town. It is freshly made every time, the restaurant seems clean and safe, the food tastes good (we tried a lot of diffirent dishes) and the people who work here are so friendly. Also the juices are very tasteful.

We found this place online. the reviews dont lie. very delicious food! we ate curry and kottu rotti. the entrance to the restaurant is very crowded with plants, which from outside might look less inviting. ambient inside could be a little better but all together definetly recommendable!

We had a delicious dinner, with friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. We were a mixture of vegetarians and meat eaters, and there were plenty of option for everyone. The Kottu was particularly good! I can definitely recommend eating at Ranithu if you’re staying in Sigiriya.

Great little place for local food. Had the chicken kottu and was very happy with it. Reasonably priced with outdoor seating that reminded me of a beach restaurant :). The waiter was lovely and gave us some good tips about visiting the Lyon’s Rock

Saw that restaurant on the side of the road and pulled over with our rental car to have a beer and a quick bite. We were wholeheartedly welcomed and had two very tasty rice and noodle dishes that were just the right size. The gentleman who worked at the restaurant and took care of us also acted as a broker to sell us massages and tours in the area. It’s up to everyone individually whether they agree to such offers or not. We didn’t feel pressured. As we wanted to have a good massage we took him up on an offer and didn’t regret it. The massage at the Ayurveda place close by was downright fantastic.

Amazing food! We had a very nice conversations with the owner. We learned a lot about the elephant. He had a some very good story’s. We loved our time here. You should visit this place!

We went for lunch at Cafe Roy’s & had the best lunch, beautifully presented! It was so good that we went back for more in the evening! We ended up taking part in a fun & hands on cookery class followed by tasting our dishes as part of a big vegetarian buffet. We loved the friendly atmosphere & the super cool interior! What an amazing place & staff!

Cafe Roy’s is a lovely cafe/restaurant on the grounds of Villa Roy near Kimbissa. The restaurant is truly superb in every aspect. The owner, Roy, is a wonderful, honest and reliable guy, that not only was great company when dining but also was really helpful whenever needed! The rest of the staff felt more like a group of great people you met whilst eating or relaxing there and less like staff that’s only there to serve. Over the Time we really grew fond of all the team members, such as Liharu and the others! In terms of food there is also no room for improvement. For breakfast fresh local fruit, avocado toasts, eggs and French toast are served with white juice from local plants and for dinner they sometimes offer cooking classes where visitors can prepare authentic Sri Lankan cuisine consisting of different curries that are mixed before eating. The cooking classes are essentially a fundraising event that helps Roy and his team to give back to the community, by donating sanitary equipment and medical devices to hospitals, learning materials to school and potentially in future water cleaning systems to other public facilities. On nights without cooking classes, there is great fusion food, such as jackfruit burgers! Another thing to mention is how great the staff handles Special dietary requests. Most meals are vegan anyways, but if you do not want eggs for breakfast they are flexible and offer vegan alternatives! We felt very safe as foreigners and the hygiene of the kitchen and food is great as well! We had to leave Kimbissa already but we would come back to this place anyday if we could! 10/5 stars if that where possible!

We visited Roy’s Place for the dinner and it was very good. Super friendly and helpful service. Roy’s special cocktail was suuuuper delicious 🤤 The restaurant has also a nice and cozy atmosphere. 😍 we were there in the evening so we haven’t seen the view, but it is situated near the rice field, so I think there are very nice views at daylight. Don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent. 😉

We ate lunch here. And it was super overpriced. They charge u in dollars. We had 2 iced lattee and a club sandwich without chicken to share which would come with fries for 16 dollars. It only had 5 fries and the club sandwich had only 2 small pieces of avocado in it and you paid almost 8 dollars for that (2500 roepies). Definitely come for the view and peace, not for the food and their prices. We wouldn’t say that the service wasn’t good or anything, just the fact it was all overpriced!

Honestly one of the best places I’ve been in Sri Lanka. Roy is a wonderful person who runs the place with his family. It’s a little out of town, but definitely worth a visit. The cafe has stunning views over the rice fields and is located in a very peaceful and quiet area. Roy organised a cooking class for us that was really amazing. I’ve done quite some cooking classes in Asia and this one was one of the best I’ve experienced. Roy knows a lot about the ingredients and local spices and explains how and why to use them in a certain way with so much enthusiasm. We also got to try to open a coconut and grate it for the curries. The fried aubergine dish we cooked was so yummy, I loved it!

Fantastic little place in a beautiful area in Sigiriya! Food is fantastic and the staff is absolutely wonderful. There's also some cabins next with private rooms, so staying here is definitely worth it!

Cool burger shack on the river just outside Sigirya Rock with rooms nearby. Elephants are chained up in the river in the evenings to entice customers in however and not allowed out. It's quite sad really. Power cuts currently affecting this area but they have generators for use before evening power is restored. Very relaxed and good menu choices .

Never mind the food, this restaurant is a joke. Please avoid at all costs if you care about animals in the slightest. They have an elephant chained up for tourists to gawp at which was so upsetting to see. Its only due to tourist support that this and other activities like elephant riding continue in the area. Elephants are highly intelligent majestic animals that should not be chained up like this and should be allowed to be free in their natural habitat.

The location was great, the Elephant was amazing, the drinks were good - but the food was atrocious. The rice and curry was terrible - watery tomato curry, dhal, sloppy eggplant and okra. An absolute shame as everything else was good. They need to hire a new (local) cook and all will be well.

The wait was 45 minutes for our meal when told 20 minutes. The glasses were dirty for our water. The piece of chicken was absolutely tiny! We initially got two small bowls of rice for 5 of us, we got one more when we asked. They charged us a tourist premium for all 5 meals when there were only 2 tourists in our group. The only good thing was the flavor. The lady working yelled at us when asked why we got charged the premium. I wouldn’t recommend!

Best place in town! Burger with Bacon and Avocado was delicious. Nothing to compare with other Restaurants in Sigiriya if you want Hamburger. Their staff is very nice. They made everything possible to keep the mosquito away and even offered us Moquito Spray. You also have a nice environment with the river and the elephant in the late afternoon. 100% recommended.

Stopped here mid-October with the missus. Can't quite understand why it's been given such a low review. Cost us a little over 2000LKR for 2 iced coffees a lovely burger meal and an avacado salad. Food was really nice! 5-stars from me.

Rude owner My one of party entered this place to take their lunch without my recommendation (I am not recommend like these places) and took lunch.Mainly they came to Sri Lanka to make pre shooting. So then they asked ironing some their clothes and then gave the permission for it. But after reaching this rude owner blamed to my clients and clapped to some clients. I like to advise please don’t visit anybody this place because they haven’t heart or any hospitality. Thanks.

Fantastic restaurant- we ate here every day we liked it so much. The food was very fresh- many of the fruits and vegetables are grown in the garden. The portions are generous and good value. One member of our family has a nut allergy and this was catered for very carefully which we appreciated. Overall delicious food and a very warm welcome.

We loved our stay at Green Hut Nature Resort! It was nice to be a couple of blocks back among the trees and nature, the STAFF are AMAZING!! I mean most Sir Lanka people are but these guys were above and beyond! The room was basic but clean and presentable. The pool was a touch after big days in the sun, and the food was super yummy we didn’t eat anywhere else. We did our safari directly with the resort, and they also organised laundry and tuk tuks! Would 100% recommend and we shall be back!!

Wonderful accommodation and pool just a 10 minute walk from the enterance of Sigiriya Lions rock. All staff are incredibly friendly and happy to help with any queries & requests. Great kitchen, especially recommend the Sri Lankan curry. The hotel is surrounded by a beautiful garden, where they grow the fruits and spices used in their restuarant. The hosts offer a cooking course, as well as jeep tours of the national park, village tours and tuktuk tours to Dambulla Cave temples.

Staff here are great and they organised us a great safari. It’s a cost effective option for a pool and view of the rock, but the overall hotel could use some uplift.

Came here for dinner tonight on a recommendation, and it did not disappoint. Cute restaurant, nice drinks list (with delicious cocktails) and amazing rice and curry cooked fresh to order. You get 6 small bowls of curry (or 7 if you order a fish or meat curry as well).

Had lunch here on my arrival day before going to Sigiriya Rock. It was empty as I ate at 3pm and also due to low season there is no crowd. Tried the garlic rice with curry prawns which was freshly cooked so it took some time. Prices are reasonable and I read that it is usually busy and difficult to get seats.

I've had few rice and curry meals in sigiriya and this was hands down the best one. The meal was delicious and service was great. Bring your patience with you as you might have to wait for 30 minutes for the food to arrive but it's definitely worth it. I'd definitely come back again

Wow, it was amazing food! We are not big fans of local food but here it is in a modern version and we really enjoyed it! You should try Honey Garlic Chicken or Sweet Sour Chicken. Also fresh juices were amazing.

Get the fish kottu. Bloody brilliant. Always good with a Lion beer. Big portions and super tasty. It is spicy so if you like that go here (I did ask for it to be spicy)

The Kitchen Sigiriya offers a decent buffet with a variety of tasty dishes, making it a good option in the area. However, I was disappointed by the flies hovering around, which immediately landed on the food when the lids were opened. While the price was reasonable for a remote location, the service didn’t meet expectations, leaving room for improvement.

The Kitchen is by far the best local restaurant we have been to in Sri Lanka. Vegetarians and Vegans, when in Sigiriya, this is the place to go! They have the most elaborate local vegetarian buffet. Our group reached the restaurant at 3pm in the noon when their buffet was closed. Upon request the staff went out of the way to open up the buffet and cook fresh food again. Their service is simply top notch. 😍

The Kitchen offers excellent value for money. Their dinner à la carte menu is fantastic, with delicious dishes at very reasonable prices. The lunch buffet is average in terms of variety and taste, but still worth it for the price you pay. Overall, a great place if you’re looking for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank.

This place was recommended by our driver. He said we should order the Kottu as this was not something we tried before. We ordered 1 pork and 2 chicken Kottu and we could choose how spicy we wanted our food. The taste was absolutely delicious. The service was polite and the food served quickly. This was a very cheap meal and cost approximately £13 and this included 3 beers. I would definitely recommend.

La dolce vita was wonderful to stay at. The grounds and pool are beautiful and rooms are cosy and well maintained (also huge). But the staff are the highlight, so kind and attentive and the Sri Lankan breakfast was amazing! Thank you for our stay.

We had a very great time at La Dolce Vita. The rooms are liked described/shown and with only five rooms not crowed. The service was very great and the food (breakfast & dinner) very delicious. The highlight was the newly build pool, where you can relax after your sight seeing tours. Also they organized us tucked tucks for the day and a cap to Kandy. We would for sure come back again.

We loved this gorgeous hideaway in the jungle of Sigiriya! The pool was lovely and well shaded by mid afternoon. The rooms were clean and tidy with a balcony that overlooks the beautiful view of the pool. Easy walk into “town” albeit just a few hundred metres of restaurants and shops. The included breakfast was delicious and so nicely set out when served to us each morning in the lovely garden. We also chose to eat here one night for dinner and the food was again tasty and fresh. The most wonderful part of our stay at La Dolce Vita was the attentive staff which interestingly were all male (very common in Sri Lanka). They went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. It had a homestay feel and we would recommend to anybody wanting a great place to stay in Sigiriya.

Highly recommend. We really loved our stay here! 3 nights in this jungle paradise, very quiet away from the road, perfect walking distance to the restaurants and the hikes. You really don't need a driver here as everything is close by. The gardens are beautifully kept and the breakfast was lovely. We woke up to beautiful nature and tea/coffee breakfast . Was perfect for us 🥰

Great accommodation with beautiful pool and gardens and amazing food. However the staff are what really make this place special, the lads who run this place really go out of their way to ensure that you have an amazing time in Sigiriya with planning, organising and booking all activities and transport while staying with them. A great place to enjoy delicious local food. We arrived a bit late and weren’t sure if we could still eat, but it was no problem and they prepared a wonderful meal for us. After dinner, we could easily get a tuk tuk back to our stay since her husband is a driver – without any pressure at all. They also have beautiful, friendly German Shepherds that made the place feel even more welcoming. Truly warm and genuine hospitality!

While it is very easy to miss, this is an authentic little restaurant. It is not on the more busy area and definitely does not have a “theme” going on with over the top decorations and all that. However I really enjoyed the food and the pleasant and friendly atmosphere.

After 2 months traveling all over Sri Lanka I’m gonna say it’s the best food and drinks we had! Caipirinhas were on point, grilled fish and chicken curry will make you eat for flavor even when you are not hungry anymore. For Dhal lovers- hands down best one I had, with touch of smokiness that makes it level up better. Top notch service and perfect English speaking. We will be back here tomorrow!

Lovely couple who run this restaurant. We both ordered kottu which was our first time trying it. I got the mixed one and my girlfriend got the chicken. Wow, the portion sizes were huge and there was so much flavour in the dishes. My first experience of kottu is only positive, I hope they are all as tasty as this one

I've only been in Sri Lanka for five days but the food here was mind-blowing and the best I've had so far 🤯 The food is simply on point. Perfectly cooked dishes with flavours that pack a punch. Generous portions all served up in the most chill and nicest ambiance. Get off the main roads and come eat in the jungle. Your taste buds will thank you. (And sorry for the bad photos, I wasn't expecting to review this place!) EDIT: came back for a second night to eat other things off the menu and it was all incredible

Hands down the best cafe I've been to in SL! We tried almost everything on their limited menu. The aesthetics meets the flavour! We ended up going there on all days of our stay. Peaceful place to relax after hiking up the rocks of Pidurangala. They also have a lovely collection of books that you can explore and a small shop to buy some souvenirs.

WHAT INCREDIBLE FOOD with the most chilled, relaxing vibes. I felt so relaxed here. In the middle of nature with the amazing ambience! The food was out of this world. It was delicious and so fresh and healthy. The portions were so generous!! Try the avo toast and the Idli! SO DELICIOUS! and super affordable! They give you an Ayurvedic digestion shot and coconut ball on the house after your food too!! It's so unique and a fantastic idea. Absolutely loved every bit about this place! The staff are super sweet and very relaxed adding to the vibe of the place! Thanks for a great experience!

We found this place on the very first day and although relative far from our accommodation, we came back every single day for breakfast. This is a true gem! It has a western style breakfast but with the Sri Lankan tradition (e.g. roti instead of pancakes) and very tasty vegan options (I am not at all). Ingredients are local. We tried almost every dish on the menu and every single one was great and beautifully presented. It’s a quiet place and relaxed atmosphere and the only restaurant which did not ask us to make a review. Well deserved 5/5!

The absolute gem of Sigiriya! The entire experience is fantastic, the food is freshly made with locally sourced produce, the design is beautiful including all of the cups/plates, the staff is friendly and so attentive. I highly recommend visiting this place as this was one of the best cafes I have visited while traveling. You can actually feel and taste that food was made with love. They also have complimentary water, coconut ball-shaped “candies” and a healthy shot to improve digestion. The avocado toast was so good, I ended up eating it three days in a row, also the green smoothie was delicious! Loved it and will definitely come back 🥹❤️

We had lovley time with Sumi! She did not only tought us how to cook Sri Lankan food, she also accepted as muslims and accommodated accordingly. The vegetarian menu (what we selected) was very delicious and species were balanced. The class was very organaized with mix of how to cook, sri lankan history and culture of the food. She also is very social, intersted in learning different cultures and give recommondations about what to visit in Sigiriya. At the end of the class, you get to taste the result of the cooking class in the form of launch or dinner with gifts from Sumi. I would highly recommond anyone intersted in cooking Sri Lankan food or like cooking in general to come and see Sumi!

Cooking with sumi was so much fun! Most of the provide is grown right in her garden, you get a beautiful view of the lions rock, she explains everything well and you get to be very hands on! The curries we made were so delicious and it was great to share them in the outdoor space, we finished with dessert. Left with big smiles and very happy tummies :)

Cook with Sumi is the perfect cooking class to choose in Sigiriya. We didn’t just learn how to prepare delicious Sri Lankan dishes, but also received an insightful introduction to the different spices used in local cuisine. The meal we cooked was one of the tastiest I had during my whole trip in Sri Lanka—an unforgettable experience! I would definitely recommend this experience!

Wonderful evening cooking many Sri Lankan dishes with SuMi The setting is lovely with views over her veg garden of the Sigiriya lion rock It was interesting to help prep the dishes, learn about Sri Lankan spices, food culture and just generally chat and enjoy her company while talking about travel and Sri Lanka. A must do when in Sigiriya. An of course - the meal prepared was brilliant. Weill be preparing many of the dishes when we get back home to the UK

We loved the class with Sumi. Sumi and her sister in law were amazing, very well prepared and friendly. Sumi introduced Sri Lankan cuisine and many types of local spices in the class, including yummy dessert! We had wonderful time in the afternoon with these kind ladies. It was a feast afterward! Remember make sure save some room in your stomach before you go!

sumi was lovely from the beginning to the end! the place has an amazing view to the lion’s rock and everything was super clean and organized. we learnt how to do curry, rice and even coconut milk. in the end, we had dinner and she sent us the recipe and gifted us with a beautiful spoon. the details matter here. so if you’re looking for a cooking class in sigiriya, this is the place! 😌✨

We went here, because it seemed not as commercialized like a lot of other places. And we were amazed! We just had the best time with Sumi. The food is really delicious, Sumi is incredibly nice and the garden, the fresh herbs and the whole place seems very unique and just breathtaking. We really recommend coming here! Also the price seems pretty good (7000 pp) and there are different options of menus you can cook. You also get the recipe and a small gift at the end. Enjoy 🌞

The place was cozy, but personally the food was abysmal. The garlic soup and tomato salad were tasteless, the staff forgot our orders and was super slow.

Beautiful spot and some great vegan options for a quick meal! The vegetable kottu was well priced and our waiter was knowledgable on veganism so brought good condiments for us! Lovely experience for lunch ☺️

We stumbled upon Royal Food Restaurant tonight (Febr 10th, 2025) when looking to have dinner after our visit to Sigiriya. The food was truly amazing and bountiful, the service was excellent, the prices were very reasonable. I have nothing but superlatives to say about this place. We’re trying to figure out how to squeeze in a lunch here tomorrow, before we leave the area.

One of the very first meal on my day 1 of the srilanka trip. The food was tasty and was a proper srilankan food. Loved the rice curry and all the vegetables. If you are visiting sigriya rock then this restaurant is on the way do check it out. Do carry cash as many places in Sri Lanka accept only cash.

We visited this place on the way back from Lions rock. With children. Place had good reviews, that's why we decided to get there. Food was delicious, tasty. Roti banana for children, papaya salad for healthy dinner. Better take some cards or just be patient, as we waited more than 1 hour for meals.

Very cozy and lovely place away from the loud music bars. Amazing and super friendly women that would make everything to make you feel comfortable. They saw that the wooden chairs weren’t comfortable for us and brought us some plastic ones, they gave me a mosquito spray just after seeing that I was trying to deal with the mosquitos. The fish curry was delicious and not very spicy (I asked them not to make it spicy). The atmosfpere was lovely with all the torches and nice and quiet music (compared to other more loud bar-like places) playing. If you want a romantic and pleasant atmosphere you will definitely find it here. The prices are high though but it’s all the same in other touristic cafes nearby. Loved everything about this place and would highly recommend.

Best curry I’ve had in Sri Lanka even though I’ve been here for over 2 weeks! Got the chicken curry and it came with 6 different curries + rice and popadoms. Would definitely recommend when in Sigiriya.

Lovely restaurant really close to our accomodation (nature park). We enjoyed fried noodles with veg, egg kottu & potato curry with white rice. All were really tasty - our favourite kottu we’ve had so far! The lady serving us was absolutely lovely also. We would definitely return!

Really lovely atmosphere, outdoor seating & the lights at night! Though it took a little bit of time for the food to arrive from ordering, it is really really delicious and you can tell it’s all freshly prepared - even the curries. The aubergine curry & okhra curry were particularly amazing. Staff is very nice & warm, and the prices are very reasonable too. Would highly recommend this spot!

After our early morning hike to watch the sunrise, we stopped by Food Soul, a charming little spot surrounded by nature. There’s a peaceful pond right in front and incredible views of the rice fields — and best of all, a clear and stunning view of Lion Rock in the distance. The service was excellent — very kind and attentive. The food, while quite raw, was still tasty and nicely presented. But what truly makes this place special is the peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking scenery. A highly recommended stop if you want to relax and take in the beauty of Lion Rock and the surrounding landscape.

Great Spot for some good food with views on Lion rock. Menue is a bit more international. The Jackfruit Burger with fries was great. Prices a little higher than others in the area.

What a nice place to stop for a spot of early lunch! We had a Smoothie Bowl (coco-choco) which was fantastic, alongside the Green Juice and an espresso. Very friendly staff, beautiful location. Absolutely recommend going there.

Recently, a few of us stopped by Soul Food, a vegetarian restaurant, to grab a meal before a long drive. There were six of us, and they had no problem setting up a large table for us. The menu was pretty extensive. I ordered a Sweet Potato Burger and an Avocado Toast with Egg, plus an Iced Cappuccino and Mango Juice. Overall, the food was really good, but there were a couple of things that could be improved. The wait time was pretty long—probably because we were a group of six, and they wanted to bring everything out at the same time. That’s exactly what happened—they served each dish one by one, and in total, it took about 30-40 minutes to get all the food. It wasn’t a huge issue since we weren’t in a rush, but it would’ve been nice if they had given us a heads-up. The second thing I’d suggest as an improvement is adding fans. We sat outside, and it was really hot. I’ve been to plenty of cafes where they have ceiling fans or stand-alone fans, and it makes a huge difference. Without them, it felt stuffy, and we kept wishing for a bit of a breeze. Overall, great food, but a couple of small changes could make the experience even better!

The view and the food are as good as the photos show! We had the jackfruit and sweet potato burgers and they were delicious. We also asked for our son to have just avocado on toast and they must have used three fresh avocados to make it. Enormous! The drinks and atmosphere were also good and a short five minute walk from Sigiriya Village hotels.

First, I'm sorry I'm giving a 2-star rating. But as a level 8 Google Maps guide, I can't give a fake review when I disliked my dine-in experience. My partner and I had the luxury to choose a lunch place during our visit to Sigiriya in Sri Lanka, and as this restaurant, "Anu's Mom Kitchen" had a high 4.8-star rating, we decided to eat here. To our horror, almost everything we ordered tasted BAD. I rarely give "bad food taste" reviews, because, I believe it is hard for restaurants in 2025 to survive with bad food tastes right? But this restaurant caught us by surprise, in a bad way. Their "Egg Kottu" tasted BAD! It tasted like my combat ration from my army!! And their "Fish Stew" also tasted BAD! Extremely fishy with obviously-frozen fish cubes and vegetables. Their famous curry platter dishes also tasted average-to-bad for most. Even their "Mango Lassi" tasted BAD!! How do u make the Mango Lassi taste like this?! And to make it worse, the prices aren't even kind.. Also, I've never had so many small flies flying on my face (I'm not smelly) and the food before. It was just too much. Nope, I'm giving a 2-star rating because the server was kind, at least. But the food itself is a 1-star. Please improve the food taste! It is really, really not good!

Lovely people and a nicely decorated restaurant, however the noodles we got weren’t the best, perhaps if we chose a different dish it would have reflected the positive reviews more. We both got fried noodles, one chicken and one pork. Neither really had any taste, they were very bland and could do with some sort of sauce. My pork was also very fatty, you couldn’t taste anything else but fat. If I was to go again I would get a curry and I’m sure this would be better.

What a little GEM. My friend an I spent a few hours in this place. Both slightly poorly so went for a bite to eat and relax. Muesli energy bowl was amazing and so was the man who served us. Offered a local natural medicine to both of us to help settle our stomachs. Can’t recommend this place enough

The Cool Place has an amazing vibe with good food and drinks. Staff are very nice and they are always open to support the tourist with the best tips in town. The owner, Sameera, organized an amazing tour by boat with a local fisherman. I highly recommend the tour. Thanks my dear friend :)

It's really a cool place! Great for relaxing after the hike on Sigiriya. Cool oldschool music / chill vibes / swings / comf chairs. Food is good to! They have a small kitchen but are rather fast with cooking. Ordered the Chicken Burger: Bun was really soft. Veggies fresh. Even the chips on the side were freshly made today. Great place ^^

We have dinered to this place at least 1 time a day during our 3 nights stay. The food is good and simple. If you want no spicy food you can have it, simply ask the cook. It is a family business. Lassi is excellent and you should try the chocolate rotti, very original.

Ramya’s experience was amazing. We did not pre-book. called at 6pm and she said come down and we watched her prepare and cook from scratch. We got to eat with another traveling couple. Food the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka. The authentic experience amazing, all the stories about how she started the kitchen and the struggles is amazing to see where she has come.

Cooking with Ramya has probably been the highlight of my Sri Lanka trip so far! She is such an inspirational woman, and her family is lovely. She invites you into your home and looks after you with such warm hospitality, offering us tea and biscuits and making sure we were comfortable. Whilst cooking she gave us ingredients to try and explained what she was using and why. She told us all about setting up her business and everything she’s had to overcome in order to get to where she is today. The food was all absolutely incredible, the best Sri Lankan food I’ve had so far. Whilst we ate with other people who’d arrived for the food, Ramya snuck off to the market and bought us a big bag of the local tea we’d been admiring!! Visiting Ramya and her beautiful family is a must do in Sirigaya, it was one of my favourite evenings across all of my travels

Great spot to see the sunset. Meals and food were priced reasonably considering the view spot it’s probably best view in town. Paid 2,000 for curry and rice dishes and 350 for soft drinks. Priced fair in comparison with the prices of other places nearby.

I loved the view from here. ❤️🥹 Just amazing! The lake in-front of Sigiriya surrounded by trees creates a perfect frame. The food was also tasty, but pricey. They may have targeted the tourists rather than the locals. I think they can improve their customer-service a bit too, by simply smiling a bit. 😌 P.S: To use the swing, they charge additional 500/=.

Gotta agree with majority of the reviews here. The view is amazing! No doubt about that. The service and the facilities have a lot more room for improvement though. We tried their fried rice and the noodles and they both were very good though the quantity was slightly lesser than other similar places for that price. Nevertheless, we had a lovely time there, even during the sunny afternoon since it had a lot of shade from the surrounding trees.

The restaurant is more tourist-oriented, not really for locals. Yes, the view of Sigiriya Rock is beautiful, but the food isn’t worth it. We had fried rice and kottu, and both were dripping in oil. For the price we paid, the portions were very small and not satisfying. They should either give proper portions or adjust the prices to be fair.

After a string of disappointing meals in sigiriya we finally arrived at the croissant hut. Don't let the name fool you, this is the place to eat if you want authentic spicy Sri Lankan food. We informed the owner, who is one of the most helpful and welcoming people we met, about our food preferences and he delivered on point. It was the best chicken curry and rice (without all the bland nonsense touristy condiments) and egg kotthu we ate. The kotthu was not dry and was spiced beautifully. This place is a hidden gem. I wish our stay was longer just so that we could eat here again.

Croissant Hut is an unassuming gem of a restaurant in Sigiriya. The food is excellent, properly authentic, asked for some of the dishes for spicy and they delivered. I will say, on the road of all the restaurants the menu is slightly more expensive, don’t be scared off by this as however the food quality is really really good and some of the best we tried along the main road. Asanka is a great chef and equally a great host. Add this little gem to your Sigiriya eating list (might be slow service but ice cold Lions are a great touch)

We were in the group of 9. They arrange a table for us and prepared delicious food (not too hot, just fine to eat). Nice music and very climatic atmosphere.

I'm not sure about the food here, but you can ask the friendly and helpful owner to arrange a ride, and he will do so for a fair price. I pais 6,000LKR for a ride to Gal Oya, the same price as other places. It was at night time which meant I needed a car and not tuktuk due to the risk of elephants. Sure enough, we actually did pass an elephant on the road!

We went to this place by chance as we had a down pour of rain. Great find on the road. Food was freshly made. Ordered the vegetable curry and rice and got a banquet. Tried the egg hopper which was delicious. The vegetarian Kottu was lovely as well. plus a Lassi and Pineapple juice. All up 1150 rupees. Good value for Sigiriya.

Amazing family run little hut. The cook let me help chop up my kottu. The prices were low, portions huge, and everything tasty. Only downside is all the flies buzzing around, but it adds ambiance 😉

We stopped at this place for diner, and could not go Somewhere else for all our stay in sigirya! We tried kottu, hoppers, fried rice. It was all Delicious, but the best is their Rice and curry, very tasty and good portions. The family is also very nice! Highly recommended 😁

We we had not seen this place trough google, we would not enter definitely, and I am happy we went. They give big portion good food for very cheap price. The portions were so good we could not eat even the 1/3. very homey and sweet place. Their Rotti is amazing :)))

The most budget friendly restaurant in the area! Perfect if you're on a 10usd budget per day and want to enjoy Sigiryia and surroundings.

I had an amazing time with Sajee and Suzy - definitely a must do when in Sigiriya! The food was amazing and Sajee and Suzy explained everything in much detail and we even made coconut milk ourselves. Even though I was the only one who signed up for the morning class, they still did not cancel it and we cooked all dishes. Thanks so much!

I attended the cooking class from Sajee and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! The hosts were incredibly friendly, welcoming us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. They took the time to explain every ingredient and cooking technique in great detail, sharing not only recipes but also fascinating insights into Sri Lankan culture and traditions. The class was both fun and informative, and the food we prepared was simply delicious. I left with new skills, a deeper appreciation for Sri Lankan cuisine, and some truly lovely memories. Highly recommended!

Sajees Cooking Place was an absolutely amazing experience. His wife and him were beautiful hosts with a vast knowledge about sri lankan cooking, spices and ingridients. He took a lot of time to teach us all the necessary steps and cooked with us for 3 hours. Afterwards we ate the best food we had so far in sri lanka Also got the recipes afterwards via pdf. We can absolutely recommend and would come back anytime.

We recently had the pleasure of doing a cooking class with Sajee and his wife. We stayed at one of their rooms for 6 nights and saw people coming for the cooking class every day and decided to give it a try! We had a great time learning everything about the local cuisine, the spices they use, the cooking methods and we now finally understand what we have been eating in Sri Lanka this whole time 🙂 Sajee explained everything thoroughly, had us all involved in chopping and preparing the food as this is the best way to memoriae everything. We did it in a group of 8 and it was a nice bonding experience. Also the outdoor kitchen is lovely and surrounded by nature and trees which made the environment even more relaxing. I would definitely recommend it to anyone around Sigiriya!! Sajee and his family are great and the most caring hosts 💙 thank you so much for everything!!

Amazing cooking class! We were four people in total and learned how to cook traditional food from Sri Lanka. Two of us were vegetarian and since only one of many dishes were with meat, it was very suitable for us. The host explained everything about the ingredients and recipes in detail. Would definitely recommend this class if you visit Sigiriya.

We had a fabulous day with Sajee and Susie. They were so generous and lovely. We made so many delicious things and all with very thoughtful and clear instructions and explanations, and in a beautiful environment. Can’t wait to try them at home! Totally recommend Generous

We had an amazing experience today at sajee’s place. Not only was the food great but chef told us many things about the spices en recipes we were making. If you like of want to know what real Sri lankan food and curry’s taste like. Go make it yourself! 10/10 recommend.

The food is mediocre at best. We had to wait for over 45 mins for our order - which is alright because they said they make things fresh, but when the wrap arrived it was ‘cold’ inside. The prices are high but the service and the quality doesn’t match the price they are asking. The staff is kind though.

We stopped here for breakfast and we couldn't leave soon enough. The food and service were ok, but the whole thing was spoilt by the chained and beaten elephant that walks through the restaurant to be forced to lie in the river for tourists to bathe with it. The restaurant claim it isn't their elephant but the staff were trying to usher us to the side tables where the elephant walks and it then lays, however we chose the front by the street. Their Facebook page promoting this elephant suggests otherwise too. The restaurant are complicit with this by allowing them access to the river through their grounds and by placing their tables to allow guests to witness this. After we finished our food we stood on the bridge and watched the elephant constantly have the bull hook hitting its lower legs until it finally gave in and lay motionless in the water. Several hours later we walked past and it was still lay motionless in the water. This restaurant has the power to help stop this and yet it condones it.

Initially liked the look of this place because of the appearance of having vegan options - however there is an elephant on this property who has been stolen from her home and is now being abused by humans. Will not go here.

Super friendly staff but my roti pizza was average, just fine. The roti base was very elastic and doughy. It was an ok meal but nothing special. I also thought the price of well over 2000 lkr for roti was way too expensive.

I have just visited 1948 Sigiriya Restaurant whilst on my travels and it was well worth the visit! I think it is quite a new restaurant, but it is obvious that it has been done up with care and the food is superb! I had the Jack fruit pizza and it was delicious! Definitely recommend stopping off for a bit to eat whilst you are passing, and it was great to go somewhere with a fluent English speaking hostess. 10/10. Will stop by again if we can.

1948 is a really great place to eat, we recommend 10/10! They offer vegetarian food (roti pizza, rice, noodles, pasta) but also smoothie bowls and yummy juices. Staff was very friendly and we could even change the table when it started raining. A very cool place!

Expensive and not worth what you’re paying. USD 3.50 for a pathetic small portion of oil-soaked fries (see attached image). USD 6.50 for tuna mayo toast that tastes like it was from a can. Only saving grace was that the toast was toasted nicely. Fried noodles looked good but was ultimately tasteless - we had to add salt, pepper and chilli to taste anything. Pizza was thin and too salty. Left with much emptier pockets and stomachs not even half-filled. Not sure how this place has 5 star reviews. Do not bother going here.

Deliciuous Dosa! That chili coconut sauce was supreme. They don’t serve alcoholic drinks.

The food is exceptionally tasty!!! Would recommend the hot garlic chicken. You can tell them not to do it too spicy, and they really do! The service is a bit slow, because they have obly one cook for everything, but he is the best. Thanks for having us.

So glad we went here! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The owner helped explain the menu and make our choices and everything we got was superb. Loved the chicken rice & chicken curry- came with 6 different dishes and steamed rice and we had the kottu which was also delicious! Would return here again to eat if we were staying longer. They even fried some eggs for our baby ❤️

Cozy little nook with nice ambience and waitstaff! Their curries are made fresh — upon ordering, they’d inform you of the 30 mins wait time. I had a Sri Lankan chicken curry — it came plated very nicely and was soooo yummy with amazing size dishes! Will totally recommend!

The best curry we’ve had in Sri Lanka. The chicken curry was cooked fresh and all the little bowls that came with it added their own flavours to make it delicious. Reasonably priced too.

We came to Sigiriya and there are so many restaurants to visit- first night we chose Kings Gallary. A very good place- sweet serving and the food was so much more then expected. Chicken rice with curry and as the picture shows an lot of different flavored toppings- a great treat- and they were sweet to ask how spicy- I recommend warmly

Nice little place with friendly service. Playing cards on the table to entertain whilst we waited for food. All was fresh and we ordered to much so they put the pizza in a to go box for me.

I stayed in the hostel but had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant and it was truly amazing. Everything was authentic, fresh, and lovingly made. Dinna was an amazing host - so friendly and kind. Cannot recommend enough!

We went to Dinna's place for dinner, it was a perfect evening. The food was the best we had in Sri Lanka, and the service from dinna and his family was fantastic, very kind people. Definitely recommend this place if you are around!

We had a wonderful dinner at dinna We ordered the traditional lumb rice. They cooked it vegan and with little chillie for us. It was really tasty

We enjoyed a delightful couple's massage at this wonderful spa. The massage was incredibly relaxing, and the skilled therapists created a soothing atmosphere. The pricing was very good, offering great value for the nice experience. Additionally, the location, nestled in nature's beauty, added a perfect touch to our tranquil escape!

We‘ve been there for a full body Massage and dinner - it was really a pleasure. We felt really welcome and comfortable Right from the start. And left very calm and relaxed - loved it! Was a good Start in new years eve..

Me and my friend got a full body massage together and didn't have to be separated. It was really good, they use very nice aromatic oil for the hair and body. They really value your privacy. The owner even picked us up from our stay and brought us back with his tuktuk. Would definitely recommend it, even though they just started and don't have much reviuws.
