If you're in the vicinity, Algarve Costume Museum is a must-visit. For just 3 euros, you'll get excellent value for your money. The museum offers a plethora of areas to explore and learn about, including the history of costumes, an exhibition on Ukraine, various professions, cork production, palm leaf weaving, and more. At the end of your visit, there's a lovely open area where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or another beverage while unwinding.
This is a must go if you're nearby. The price is 3 euros and you get so much for the price. There are many areas to explore and read about such as history of costumes, an exposition abou Ukraine, professions, cork, palm leaf weaving, etc. At the end there is an open area where you can take a coffee or something else. It's great to relax. There are toilets in the same open area and you can also climb some stairs to get a higher view of the city. I was very impressed as I live nearby and didn't know about the museum.

Just loved learning about the harvesting of cork. The cork exhibit was larger than I expected. It was great to see the movie (suitable for all languages since there was no vocal element, just self-explanatory video footage). In the costume/history part I liked the display about women's fans and how the women could use them to send signals to men. I'd just add that there was a lot to see in the back courtyard, such as carriages and an unusual well.
HC O — Google review
Beautifully curated and well displayed. The galleries take you through a journey in time. The photo montage gives you an insight into the society that created the town. The rear garden shows the commercial development of local industry as technology improved. There is an adjacent cafe with very reasonable prices.
Laurence F — Google review
Don’t miss this great museum that explains how cork is harvested and clothing during the period from 1900-1930’s…also very inexpensive to enter. Explanations are in several languages including English.
Mark S — Google review
A quiet but interesting museum spread indoors and in a large picturesque courtyard. A small cafe and pleasant outdoor seating are available for a break afterwards. The museum consists of some costumes displayed in a beautiful old house, a cork making area outside together with many carts, wagons, and other facets of a life now past. We spent a relaxing 1.5 hours there.
Philip S — Google review
It’s not the same now Sr. Sancho is not there. He was / is the museum. The cafe could be a GREAT source of much needed revenue but sad to say, the couple running it are quite unpleasant.
Vaughan W — Google review
Fascinating history of Sao Bras de Alportel from the establishment of the town at the beginning of the 20th century through its wartime sacrifices to the present day. Amazing fashion collection and, in a separate building, a free film show and displays about the local cork industry. A real suprise is the farm equipment and carriage display and cafe that does not close for lunch. Great latte coffee for 90c. Interesting well with hand operated pump that visitors can use.
EPC1948 R — Google review
Great spot for a bit of learning and some beautiful sites. Nice, simple museum with straightforward signs in multiple languages. Beautiful costumes and lots of interesting information about the local community and the economic and cultural history of the area. There's a small cork museum attached as well. And of course there is a delightful garden (and old well) and covered patio with a bar nearby so you can relax and enjoy some laid back Algarve vibes.

As I'm not one to give up easily, I called the contacts that were posted and they made someone available to come and give us a guided tour (although it wasn't scheduled that day). In addition to this welcome, we were received by the greatest friendliness and competence, in addition to showing us the whole "history" behind this mythical road, we also talked about interesting facts and important information. I emphasize that it changed the way I saw the road and, I'm sorry, I should have visited it before making the trip and not almost at the end (living and knowing the details makes all the difference. Ysconderijo is a restaurant located in Sao Bras de Alportel, Portugal, offering a unique menu with affordable prices. The establishment is well-decorated and provides friendly service. Ysconderijo is one of, if not the best restaurant I have visited in Portugal. The presentation, quality, and service for the price offer excellent value for money. The main course will leave you full and satisfied, and I highly recommend the duck or the pork belly. Pair it with a strawberry daiquiri, and you'll be eagerly anticipating your next visit.

Everything a very good restaurant should be and offer: nice atmosphere, excellent, friendly, swift, but not rushed service, wonderfully presented, delicious meals...and all that at really reasonable prices! We definitely will come back! Update 2 years later (we actually came back!): I can only confirm and extend what I wrote before: The food is excellent and the service very attentive, but unobtrusive and discreet (the staff wear white gloves to change cutlery). The dishes are presented very attractively, imaginatively and with great attention to detail (you eat with your eyes!). The room is designed so that you can sit in pairs or larger groups without disturbing each other, and is furnished in a varied way. And all this at moderate prices (compared to Germany or the UK, for example)!

What a total gem of a place this is. The quality of the food is second to none. We visited twice and had we been staying longer would have gone again. The lamb chops, steak, sole and salmon were excellent, and the puddings were delicious. If you are in the Algarve, Ysconderijo is definitely worth a visit - 5 stars.

If you find yourself in São Brás de Alportel, make sure to visit 4 à Mesa, a delightful hidden gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This charming restaurant is set in a beautifully converted cork factory, exuding an eclectic vibe reminiscent of a cozy coffee shop rather than your typical tapas spot. With an impressive menu featuring around 62 options, including generous portions of fish and vegan delights, there's something for everyone.
My favourite restaurant in town! It's like a large-portioned tapas place, offers an amazing variety of fish and even vegan options! We got the mango tuna, sea bass with Mediterranean vegetables, cod with guacamole and the chicken curry with apple! We also ordered the chickpea curry and the pumpkin rice! The curries came with rice and were large portions! The sangria and Weiss bier also tasted amazing! The outdoor seating in the courtyard and in front of the restaurant is lovely and quiet! The service was quick, friendly and accommodating! Highly recommended!

1st restaurant in Algarve that we found with awesome food, not typical for tourists. End of February where most of the restaurant were closed. One staff, the cook who played on the music when we came and set the fire place, only for us. Got Lamb Kebab and Salmon Puff Pastry, Pear with Saffon Sauce and Puff Pastry Cheese with Nuts!!! All tasted great

This was the best meal I have had in a long time! We ordered the chèvre with honey and pine nuts, the fried shrimp, the pasta with pesto and the pastry salmon - and everything was 10/10. The staff was very welcoming, helpful and kind. Would totally recommend this if you’re in Sao Bras!

Hidden gem in the heart of São Bras! We wanted a quick, early dinner before an evening meeting and this place was highly recommended. It's located in an old, converted cork factory and has a lot of interesting features and artifacts inside. Very eclectic and feels more like a cozy coffee shop than a tapas restaurant. Our server was excellent... Very friendly and he recommended some favorites for us to try. The owner/chef prepared each dish, and they were served immediately from the open kitchen directly to our table. Everything was beautifully prepared, piping hot and well-seasoned with a lot of flavor. The Moroccon lamb skewers and salmon in puff pastry were favorites. Desserts are limited but all homemade. And the coffee was some of the best I've had in the Algarve (strong and piping hot.) Parking is also convenient and ample, the facilties were spotless, and I will definitely return. Highly recommend!
