The Isle of Wight Steam Railway, located at Havenstreet, is a captivating destination that offers a journey through time with its well-preserved exhibits, steam-powered locomotives, and train stations. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history of railway transportation while enjoying rides on beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages. The site also features accessible facilities for wheelchair users and families with young children. Additionally, guests can explore the surrounding area, including the Woodland Walk and The Park.
Really enjoyed this, and train trips not required for an interesting visit. As an engineer I can't resist machinery so I was keep to visit the museum and see the old trains and the work going on. The museum & workshop only option is quite well priced and allowed us to see and do everything bar ride the train. Point to note; old railway carriages are open to sit in in the sheds, so you can still see what they're like inside. Anyway we went round the exhibits and learned a lot about the Island's fascinating railway history. We also got to see a steam train run up and down. Definitely interesting. Plenty of parking and food and loos available after entry.

This is undoubtedly one of the best heritage railway lines in the UK. Lovely location, great trains and facilities. Everything is clean and tidy and there's an interesting exhibition area which is great for both adults and children alike. This is a must do attraction on the Isle of Wight so go along for a great day out and enjoy yourselves 🚂🚂🚂

🚂 Isle of Wight Steam Railway – A Journey Through Time I had an amazing time at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. The train ride itself was a joy—rolling through beautiful countryside with stunning views that made every moment feel special. The vintage carriages and the sound of the steam engine added a nostalgic charm that’s hard to find elsewhere. The highlight for me was the Train Story museum. It was fascinating to walk through the exhibits and learn about the history of trains on the island. From old locomotives to interactive displays, it brought the past to life in such a vivid way. I left with a deeper appreciation for how rail travel shaped the world. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or just looking for a unique day out, this place is a gem. A truly wonderful experience that blends scenic beauty with rich heritage.

Now this is a true treat, for the enthusiast or for just the casual daytripper wanting a fun day out, in friendly company and idyllic surrounds. Turn of the century rolling stock, some of the oldest you will find, transports you back to the halcyon days of steam travel on the island. There is a nice tea room at Haven Street, which is reasonably priced and offers tea, coffee, meals and alcoholic beverages too. A must visit if you're on the island. Easily reached by rail via the adjoining station at Smallbrook Junction.
Miller W — Google review
Wonderful experience in steam railway. Can tavel between stations all day around. Main station Haven street station have plenty of free parking. Nice cafes, museum & gift shop. Train Story is a big exhibition of trians ,just few yards behind the station. Can spend few hours with friends & family. Had Halloween activities also when we visited in mid October. Family ticket is a bargain if travel with kids.
Rasanga G — Google review
The weather today was frightful! It didn’t matter a bit at this amazing place. We were a three generation group and everyone enjoyed it. The staff were great, catering tasty and reasonable. It’s half term this week and the added magician and activities for the children were superb. And of course…. The trains ! Being able to get inside some of the carriages in the Train Story was great. Next time we visit we’ll go First Class. One end of the line to the other wasn’t enough. Thank you everyone.
Tricia K — Google review
It's excellent. The ride is in old carriages that have been beautifully restored, even "third class"!! The exhibition shows how the rail system on the island evolved and how the current steam railway society developed. And, of course, there is a cafe for tea etc, and also a restaurant for a hot lunch.
Peter C — Google review
Lovely small railway, and nice rides through the countryside. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and it was great to learn about the history of the railway on the island. Havenstreet is where you'll find the museum, and work sheds, and there's a café/restaurant and bar.

Dairy farm
Briddlesford Lodge Farm dairy, shop and cafe offers simple and bright rooms with locally sourced breakfast on a working family farm. The former milking parlour now houses a farm shop filled with local fruit, vegetables, preserves, chutneys, cheeses, butter and milk straight from the owners' Guernsey herd. The shop also offers beef from nearby farms and ethically produced veal. Bluebells Cafe serves food made with produce from the shop.
We stopped by for breakfast, we were seated and greated quickly, and everything we ordered came out reeasonly fast, and everything was lovely, I had the farmers breakfast, which I struggled to finish.. eyes bigger than belly. Lovely place and would recommend and come back. Plus got to fuss baby cows
Paul N — Google review
Never in my decades of life on God's beautiful earth did think I'd be on the brink of tears because of service in a restaurant but boy did I learn a lesson today. We got there, went to the shop and grabbed a few bits. Due to the amazing reviews decided to try the restaurant as well. There was a queue and we got told we could only be seated outside. Not ideal, given that we were with our baby and it was cold and windy but we said ok. We ordered the food then waited for one hour for it to arrive. In this time people came, sat inside, had their food and left. We were still waiting. My little one was absolutely hysterical because she was hungry and needed to nap. Tried to give her some fruit we got from the farm shop but it's not like a filling meal, she couldn't be settled. Many of the people who came after us said they had no reservations but were seated inside regardless. I don't know how we were left waiting that long and outside on the cold. The food was alright, hence the 2 stars but they were missing the mac and cheese we wanted to try. To be fair, if the food was served to me in London I'd be impressed but on the island there are so many wonderful places that use local fresh produce that this is just completely not worth the hassle. So far our worst experience this holiday. So disappointed.
Monika N — Google review
Came here while out on a drive with my fiancée and it was a lovely gem of a find. The farm shop had a good variety of items and produce and had lovely staff. The cafe looked lovely however we didn't go in, seeing as we had just eaten. It also had an area to pet baby calfs and go on farm tours. I'd very much recommend taking a little trip to this gem of a place.
Grant C — Google review
Lovely farm shop. Plenty of parking. Full of local produce including their own milk and cheese, IOW tomatoes, beer, Adgestone vineyard wines, bread, butchery and greetings cards with their own dairy cows on. Lovely friendly staff who are happy to chat. Outdoor seating and a coffee shop complete this lovely place.

Visited for the first time today after coming across Briddlesford on Google. Decided to pop into the cafe and we ended up having cooked breakfasts. What can I say, one of the very best breakfasts we've had! Food was such good quality, perfectly cooked and piping hot. Staff where friendly in the cafe and farm shop. Will most definitely be visiting again when over on the island again.
Emma P — Google review
Lovely dairy farm with amazing milk, cheese, and meats, plus local fruit and veg. My son loved to watch the cows get milked (3:30pm to 5pm) and to see some baby cows up close near the cafe. Highly recommend a visit!
Tucker M — Google review
Free entrance and free car park inside The animals look happy and well treated, very friendly and lovely There is a museum inside which shows antique farm pieces/tools, equipment, photos and information about the past The shop has loads of variety (vegetables, fruits, meat, cookies, cheese, etc) and the prices are fair, the staff was very welcoming. The restaurant / coffee shop serves delicious food and drinks! Thank you everyone 😋

John Cattle's SkateClub is a fantastic skate park with amazing ramps that provide an adrenaline rush, especially on the steeper ones. The coaches are credited for teaching visitors a lot in a short time and creating an awesome atmosphere. The layout of the park is great, and the staff are patient and brilliant at what they do. Visitors have had positive experiences learning new skills like Ollies and pumping, making it an overall cool place to be.
We had a super session here today. Nice mix of ramps for learners to make progress on. Very welcoming atmosphere. My 7yo made great progress over a couple of hours.

Our family had a great session with John at the skate club while on holiday. The layout of the ramps works really well for progression and several people skating at the same time. John is a very accommodating and positive coach. Thank you!

If you’re coming to Isle of Wight for a holiday do not miss this place! It’s such a great experience to see beautiful butterflies upclose. You can even hold some of their critters. Ryan one of the employees of this establishment was really great! He was funny and kept us engaged in the knowledge of the critters and butterflies. He was really great in showing people how to hold the animals and where to look for them in the garden. Don’t miss out on a great little time out.

🌟 Butterfly World, Isle of Wight 🌟 Beautiful place with a tropical atmosphere and lots of butterflies – feels really magical ! It can get very warm inside, especially in summer, so dress accordingly and stay hydrated. Interesting talks about butterflies, crawlies creatures, and koi fish add to the experience. There's also a garden centre and a nice coffee shop right next door. Plenty of free parking available. Great spot for families and nature lovers! Entry fee is £10.99 per adult as of 26/07/2025

🦋 Butterfly World, Isle of Wight – A Peaceful Paradise I had a truly wonderful time exploring Butterfly World. The vibrant butterflies were mesmerizing, and the Japanese garden—with its koi ponds, water fountains, and tranquil paths—was pure serenity. I loved discovering the many species of lizards and snakes, each one fascinating in its own way. The whole place felt like a hidden sanctuary where nature comes alive. A perfect escape for anyone who loves beauty, calm, and a touch of wonder.
Jaffer R — Google review
The start of the visit was great, the kids loved seeing the butterflies and having them land on them made their smiles totally worth it. The only thing that let it down was one member of staff inparticular who decided to verbally berate my husband for his choice of football team after noticing a tattoo on his leg, in front of a whole host of families at the 'meet the animals' talk. We were very much taken aback by how brazen this member of staff was and his attitude to us. Definitely would not return purely based on this experience, which is such a shame because the butterfly enclosure was fantasic!
Lauren G — Google review
A must visit when on the Isle of Wight. The staff were so nice and very knowledgeable. I held a tarantula which was pretty cool. I'll let the pictures do the talking 🦋

Amazing and beautiful place, we were lucky enough to see so many butterflies, the mini beasts and koi feeding. I would highly recommend coming here if you're on the island. It is beautiful and so very interesting.
Mitchell S — Google review
This isn't huge, but worth a visit if you don't mind low flying large butterflies. They are beautiful. We visited over 30 years ago and it really hasn't changed that much. There are also Koi to see and a few reptiles.

Cafe
Bluebells Café at Briddlesford farm on the Isle of Wight is a must-visit destination for its exceptional cuisine. The breakfast options are particularly outstanding, with a fresh and fantastic Full English made from locally-sourced ingredients. For those seeking an alternative, the halloumi and mushroom burger is a delightful choice.
We only stopped by for coffee & a cake ( the scone come out still warm was delicious ) but we have had previous breakfast here and it was scrummy ! Massive portions! The lady who served us was very helpful and wasn’t at all fazed about me asking for the allergen menu :) went out of her own way to make sure we was happy , while multi tasking the rest of the cafe ☕️
Melissa F — Google review
What a gem this place is! My partner and I both said the full English here was the best we’ve ever had and we’ve had a lot to compare it to! The staff were friendly and helpful. They gave our Son a free jar of milk from the Dairy which was such a lovely touch! He loved it! We were so impressed we went back again for Cream Tea’s which were amazing! The clotted cream was so delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough! We can see why you should book first it was extremely popular and I can see why!
Becky M — Google review
Wife and daughter went to butterfly world afterwards we all wanted something to eat and drink and found this place (3 mins away)... we wasn't disappointed ! Amazing food, the crumble was massive and filled with fruit ! The drinks were good 👍 and they gave free milk to the children (it is a dairy farm). Dogs welcome. Lovely building, clean toilets, plenty of parking with a farm shop. Would definitely go back.
Kevin W — Google review
Got there as they opened for breakfast having left London at about 5.30am so we were definitely up for a good breakfast . Super friendly, proactive staff who were chatty and welcoming. The cafe soon filled up. Quality of produce used for their breakfast was really good, all tasted so good - I believe the sausages are their own from the butcher in the farm shop). My only comment was that the tomatoes needed a bit more cooking and the butter could have been a bit softer (so cold it was hard to butter the toast), but otherwise all delicious. Coffee deserves a mention too. We returned before we left and visited the really well stocked farm shop where we stocked up on chutney, milk, butter, bacon and Isle of Wight tomatoes. We arrived at lunchtime and the cafe was full so if you are planning lunch I would strongly recommend booking. There is ample free parking onsite.
SJ M — Google review
We came across this cafe while visiting one of the animal sanctuaries on the island and it was our place to go for lunch if we were close by. The food was well presented and very tasty and our granddaughter obviously enjoyed her toasted sandwiches as she devoured them. Our grandson thought the mac and cheese was the best he had and the sausage baps were delicious. As well as visiting the cafe and farm shop our daughter and grandchildren took part in a tour of the farm on Welly Wednesday, where they were told how a working farm operates.
Valerie G — Google review
Pretty expensive, relative to the quality: sausages were too lean, making them dry. And I really struggled to digest paying more than £4 for a small bottle of mediocre orange juice. We were three people and I ended up paying £65. Place is quite nice though, and staff and service were OK.
Mark S — Google review
Wow what a Cafe. Excellent service and superb food. We purchased sausages, bacon and some of their own butter to bring home with us. If the food was available on mail order we would definitely order.
Malcolm P — Google review
We visited twice as it was that good. 1st time full English 2nd time pancakes with bacon n maple syrup. Both were perfect. The staff are wonderful and very welcoming. When we come back to the isle of Wight we will definitely be going there again ♥️

The place has such a great atmosphere that is so relaxed and welcoming. The staff made us feel welcome as we entered the bar area and gave such a high level of service. The food is fantastic, we can highly recommend the Roast Beef lunch which was so full of flavour and comes with a good selection of vegetables and tasty gravy. Well worth a visit and would highly recommend this pub to everyone.

Stopped off for a last night of the holiday dinner and wasn’t disappointed. Lovely traditional pub with great sun trap rear garden with playground for the kids. Food was homemade, good portion sizes and full of flavour, also really good menu for those who are looking for Gluten free. Staff were very friendly and professional, definitely recommend!

Popped in here on a visit to the Isle of Wight. The staff were SO lovely, especially as I was visiting alone. The food is fresh, local and home cooked. By far the best food I've had on this trip!

Delicious food and great service. We are on holiday nearby and we turned up without booking with our baby. They couldn't have done any more to accommodate us, with a table and high chair set up immediately. Incredibly clean toilets. Food was fantastic and came out quickly. Very friendly staff, and helpful with us wanting extra things like water to cool a baby bottle. Would highly recommend this place.
Hayley C — Google review
Lovely people and friendly atmosphere. Went for Sunday lunch and am afraid that the food was underwhelming. The pork roast was nice, but with razor thin slices. The beef was plentiful, but the slices were dry and so chewy that both my wife and daughter gave up. I took over, but had to give in after a few bites. Felt like they had been defrosted and warmed up from last week..... The food from the main menu was great, it was just that we came for a nice Sunday roast.

Lovely pub. Well kept beer, delicious food and nice service. They had good live music when we were there too. Our food was a little slow and they gave us a delicious pudding as compensation. Very nice place. Strong recommend
