The Isle of Wight Steam Railway, located at Havenstreet, is a captivating destination that offers a journey through time with its well-preserved exhibits, steam-powered locomotives, and train stations. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history of railway transportation while enjoying rides on beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages. The site also features accessible facilities for wheelchair users and families with young children. Additionally, guests can explore the surrounding area, including the Woodland Walk and The Park.
Really enjoyed this, and train trips not required for an interesting visit. As an engineer I can't resist machinery so I was keep to visit the museum and see the old trains and the work going on. The museum & workshop only option is quite well priced and allowed us to see and do everything bar ride the train. Point to note; old railway carriages are open to sit in in the sheds, so you can still see what they're like inside. Anyway we went round the exhibits and learned a lot about the Island's fascinating railway history. We also got to see a steam train run up and down. Definitely interesting. Plenty of parking and food and loos available after entry.

This is undoubtedly one of the best heritage railway lines in the UK. Lovely location, great trains and facilities. Everything is clean and tidy and there's an interesting exhibition area which is great for both adults and children alike. This is a must do attraction on the Isle of Wight so go along for a great day out and enjoy yourselves 🚂🚂🚂

🚂 Isle of Wight Steam Railway – A Journey Through Time I had an amazing time at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. The train ride itself was a joy—rolling through beautiful countryside with stunning views that made every moment feel special. The vintage carriages and the sound of the steam engine added a nostalgic charm that’s hard to find elsewhere. The highlight for me was the Train Story museum. It was fascinating to walk through the exhibits and learn about the history of trains on the island. From old locomotives to interactive displays, it brought the past to life in such a vivid way. I left with a deeper appreciation for how rail travel shaped the world. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or just looking for a unique day out, this place is a gem. A truly wonderful experience that blends scenic beauty with rich heritage.

Now this is a true treat, for the enthusiast or for just the casual daytripper wanting a fun day out, in friendly company and idyllic surrounds. Turn of the century rolling stock, some of the oldest you will find, transports you back to the halcyon days of steam travel on the island. There is a nice tea room at Haven Street, which is reasonably priced and offers tea, coffee, meals and alcoholic beverages too. A must visit if you're on the island. Easily reached by rail via the adjoining station at Smallbrook Junction.
Miller W — Google review
Wonderful experience in steam railway. Can tavel between stations all day around. Main station Haven street station have plenty of free parking. Nice cafes, museum & gift shop. Train Story is a big exhibition of trians ,just few yards behind the station. Can spend few hours with friends & family. Had Halloween activities also when we visited in mid October. Family ticket is a bargain if travel with kids.
Rasanga G — Google review
The weather today was frightful! It didn’t matter a bit at this amazing place. We were a three generation group and everyone enjoyed it. The staff were great, catering tasty and reasonable. It’s half term this week and the added magician and activities for the children were superb. And of course…. The trains ! Being able to get inside some of the carriages in the Train Story was great. Next time we visit we’ll go First Class. One end of the line to the other wasn’t enough. Thank you everyone.
Tricia K — Google review
It's excellent. The ride is in old carriages that have been beautifully restored, even "third class"!! The exhibition shows how the rail system on the island evolved and how the current steam railway society developed. And, of course, there is a cafe for tea etc, and also a restaurant for a hot lunch.
Peter C — Google review
Lovely small railway, and nice rides through the countryside. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and it was great to learn about the history of the railway on the island. Havenstreet is where you'll find the museum, and work sheds, and there's a café/restaurant and bar.

Dairy farm
Briddlesford Lodge Farm dairy, shop and cafe offers simple and bright rooms with locally sourced breakfast on a working family farm. The former milking parlour now houses a farm shop filled with local fruit, vegetables, preserves, chutneys, cheeses, butter and milk straight from the owners' Guernsey herd. The shop also offers beef from nearby farms and ethically produced veal. Bluebells Cafe serves food made with produce from the shop.
We stopped by for breakfast, we were seated and greated quickly, and everything we ordered came out reeasonly fast, and everything was lovely, I had the farmers breakfast, which I struggled to finish.. eyes bigger than belly. Lovely place and would recommend and come back. Plus got to fuss baby cows
Paul N — Google review
Never in my decades of life on God's beautiful earth did think I'd be on the brink of tears because of service in a restaurant but boy did I learn a lesson today. We got there, went to the shop and grabbed a few bits. Due to the amazing reviews decided to try the restaurant as well. There was a queue and we got told we could only be seated outside. Not ideal, given that we were with our baby and it was cold and windy but we said ok. We ordered the food then waited for one hour for it to arrive. In this time people came, sat inside, had their food and left. We were still waiting. My little one was absolutely hysterical because she was hungry and needed to nap. Tried to give her some fruit we got from the farm shop but it's not like a filling meal, she couldn't be settled. Many of the people who came after us said they had no reservations but were seated inside regardless. I don't know how we were left waiting that long and outside on the cold. The food was alright, hence the 2 stars but they were missing the mac and cheese we wanted to try. To be fair, if the food was served to me in London I'd be impressed but on the island there are so many wonderful places that use local fresh produce that this is just completely not worth the hassle. So far our worst experience this holiday. So disappointed.
Monika N — Google review
Came here while out on a drive with my fiancée and it was a lovely gem of a find. The farm shop had a good variety of items and produce and had lovely staff. The cafe looked lovely however we didn't go in, seeing as we had just eaten. It also had an area to pet baby calfs and go on farm tours. I'd very much recommend taking a little trip to this gem of a place.

Lovely farm shop. Plenty of parking. Full of local produce including their own milk and cheese, IOW tomatoes, beer, Adgestone vineyard wines, bread, butchery and greetings cards with their own dairy cows on. Lovely friendly staff who are happy to chat. Outdoor seating and a coffee shop complete this lovely place.

Visited for the first time today after coming across Briddlesford on Google. Decided to pop into the cafe and we ended up having cooked breakfasts. What can I say, one of the very best breakfasts we've had! Food was such good quality, perfectly cooked and piping hot. Staff where friendly in the cafe and farm shop. Will most definitely be visiting again when over on the island again.
Emma P — Google review
Lovely dairy farm with amazing milk, cheese, and meats, plus local fruit and veg. My son loved to watch the cows get milked (3:30pm to 5pm) and to see some baby cows up close near the cafe. Highly recommend a visit!

Free entrance and free car park inside The animals look happy and well treated, very friendly and lovely There is a museum inside which shows antique farm pieces/tools, equipment, photos and information about the past The shop has loads of variety (vegetables, fruits, meat, cookies, cheese, etc) and the prices are fair, the staff was very welcoming. The restaurant / coffee shop serves delicious food and drinks! Thank you everyone 😋

John Cattle's SkateClub is a fantastic skate park with amazing ramps that provide an adrenaline rush, especially on the steeper ones. The coaches are credited for teaching visitors a lot in a short time and creating an awesome atmosphere. The layout of the park is great, and the staff are patient and brilliant at what they do. Visitors have had positive experiences learning new skills like Ollies and pumping, making it an overall cool place to be.
We had a super session here today. Nice mix of ramps for learners to make progress on. Very welcoming atmosphere. My 7yo made great progress over a couple of hours.

Our family had a great session with John at the skate club while on holiday. The layout of the ramps works really well for progression and several people skating at the same time. John is a very accommodating and positive coach. Thank you!

Quarr Abbey is a serene Benedictine monastery located near the Fishbourne ferry port. Visitors of all ages are welcome to explore the grounds and enjoy cream teas at the coffee shop. The abbey also offers free tours, and visitors can feed pigs with food purchased on-site. Additionally, there's a woodland trail suitable for an off-road pushchair, and kids can make the most of their visit by hiring an activity pack.
Lovely place with great food and service. Good shop and craft outlets to view and buy things, we didn't go into the Abbey itself this visit as we had our dog with us, but have on previous visits, well worth spending some time doing so.
Colin S — Google review
A really beautiful place and very peaceful. Not wise to go when weather is hot which it was today as other than the short woodland walk there isn’t much shade and at the cafe, obviously everyone grabs the tables in the shade or inside so no chance of keeping out of the hot sun. After seeing the quite high prices of the food and having to queue for ages, I gave up and left. But, on a cooler day, a perfect place to spend some time at . Will go again when weather a bit cooler.
Janette S — Google review
Parked in the large free car park and walked around the spacious grounds, enjoyed coffee and cake in the cafe and visited inside the Abbey. There is a nice little shop which sells lots of interesting items including jams, chutneys and bottles of alcoholic beverages to take away. They have lots of pigs and piglets...a hide where you may be lucky to see red squirrels as well as birds. The ruins of the old abbey are within half a mile walk. Dogs welcome.
Linda H — Google review
Loved visiting the pigs before you get to the Abbey. Very stunning building not what I expected to see, very modern inside. Could find the old chapel due to poor signage from the roadway. Lots of parking.
Karen A — Google review
The weather was against us - the first rainy day for a long time. But we were made welcome, even the 2 dogs were fussed over in the art gallery and gift shop. Very pleasant staff, especially at the cafe despite the appalling weather. Stood and watched the sows with their baby piggies, we didn't get a chance to feed them. But we promise to visit again.
Candice R — Google review
Lovely peaceful and calm place. Great for young and old alike. The Abbey is lovely to visit and such a wonderful building. Small quality craft shop, well worth a browse for a surprise gift buy 🎁

A great place to watch red squirrels. Have a lovely lunch and have a good walk within the grounds of the Abbey. Local produce and feed the pig's.

Cafe
Bluebells Café at Briddlesford farm on the Isle of Wight is a must-visit destination for its exceptional cuisine. The breakfast options are particularly outstanding, with a fresh and fantastic Full English made from locally-sourced ingredients. For those seeking an alternative, the halloumi and mushroom burger is a delightful choice.
We only stopped by for coffee & a cake ( the scone come out still warm was delicious ) but we have had previous breakfast here and it was scrummy ! Massive portions! The lady who served us was very helpful and wasn’t at all fazed about me asking for the allergen menu :) went out of her own way to make sure we was happy , while multi tasking the rest of the cafe ☕️
Melissa F — Google review
What a gem this place is! My partner and I both said the full English here was the best we’ve ever had and we’ve had a lot to compare it to! The staff were friendly and helpful. They gave our Son a free jar of milk from the Dairy which was such a lovely touch! He loved it! We were so impressed we went back again for Cream Tea’s which were amazing! The clotted cream was so delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough! We can see why you should book first it was extremely popular and I can see why!
Becky M — Google review
Wife and daughter went to butterfly world afterwards we all wanted something to eat and drink and found this place (3 mins away)... we wasn't disappointed ! Amazing food, the crumble was massive and filled with fruit ! The drinks were good 👍 and they gave free milk to the children (it is a dairy farm). Dogs welcome. Lovely building, clean toilets, plenty of parking with a farm shop. Would definitely go back.
Kevin W — Google review
Got there as they opened for breakfast having left London at about 5.30am so we were definitely up for a good breakfast . Super friendly, proactive staff who were chatty and welcoming. The cafe soon filled up. Quality of produce used for their breakfast was really good, all tasted so good - I believe the sausages are their own from the butcher in the farm shop). My only comment was that the tomatoes needed a bit more cooking and the butter could have been a bit softer (so cold it was hard to butter the toast), but otherwise all delicious. Coffee deserves a mention too. We returned before we left and visited the really well stocked farm shop where we stocked up on chutney, milk, butter, bacon and Isle of Wight tomatoes. We arrived at lunchtime and the cafe was full so if you are planning lunch I would strongly recommend booking. There is ample free parking onsite.
SJ M — Google review
We came across this cafe while visiting one of the animal sanctuaries on the island and it was our place to go for lunch if we were close by. The food was well presented and very tasty and our granddaughter obviously enjoyed her toasted sandwiches as she devoured them. Our grandson thought the mac and cheese was the best he had and the sausage baps were delicious. As well as visiting the cafe and farm shop our daughter and grandchildren took part in a tour of the farm on Welly Wednesday, where they were told how a working farm operates.
Valerie G — Google review
Pretty expensive, relative to the quality: sausages were too lean, making them dry. And I really struggled to digest paying more than £4 for a small bottle of mediocre orange juice. We were three people and I ended up paying £65. Place is quite nice though, and staff and service were OK.
Mark S — Google review
Wow what a Cafe. Excellent service and superb food. We purchased sausages, bacon and some of their own butter to bring home with us. If the food was available on mail order we would definitely order.
Malcolm P — Google review
We visited twice as it was that good. 1st time full English 2nd time pancakes with bacon n maple syrup. Both were perfect. The staff are wonderful and very welcoming. When we come back to the isle of Wight we will definitely be going there again ♥️

For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Arreton Barns, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Robin Hill. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Additionally, there are artisanal boutiques, a vintage penny arcade, a shipwreck museum offering student discounts on admission, and a maritime museum with interactive exhibits. A great place to shop for gifts - loved Fortune Leather crafts where Anders fashioned a beautiful made to measure collar for my pup as I watched. Good affordable range inc sheepskins, bags, belts, and some unique items too. Great service, thanks Anders 😚

Lovely place with diferent cabins containing various craft , photo, glass blowing, souvenir shops. With a pub serving a variety of food. Was quite highly priced though , that was the only downside. But it's a quirky interesting place with a bit of something for everyone.

Beautiful place with a variety of shops. Something for everyone, with some unique finds. Picked up a few bits, for self and some to give as gifts. Plenty of parking. Gave a lower rating because of disappointing and quite literally discriminatory behaviour of staff in The Corn Exchange. If you get a chance to visit Arreton Barns, then do, and make sure to visit the jewellery shop (Thomas P Cochran) has amazing pieces in there!
Kate K — Google review
A nice place to walk around, though I wasn’t completely sold on the stores. It’s a bit of a mix of things and feels slightly odd. The glass blowing is very cool and historic, and I enjoyed the museum there. I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to visit again, but it’s worth a quick stop if you’re in the area.
AB — Google review
I walked through here to get to the Shipwreck museum but it looks like a very interesting place filled with a pub, maker shops and various other independent outlets. I would have stayed longer but it was raining heavily. Also has a wide selection of stationary engines; although these require restoration.
Ultimate G — Google review
Everything was open as per their advertised leaflet. Glassworks we're very good. Artisan products seemed unique but are not cheap. Vast array of goods in antique shop. Public house was very busy but service was surprisingly quick. Ham , eggs and chips were fine but no-one seems to do gammon much. All prices seemed average but I can't compare much as I seldom visit pubs. Good coffee. I was offered the sweet menu but declined, main portions being sufficient . Tried to load their free WiFi but it dropped out after a few moments. Main car park was full but their overflow had room enough. Children were enjoying feeding the ducks. Wheelchair access was available throughout although the whole place is far from flat. Tight corners in the bricabrac shop.
Noel F — Google review
Great place if you like crafts, there's a glass makers, wood work, traditional sweet shop, silver jewellery. And my personal favourite, a Prop makers exhibit. With the prop maker there selling little models and some books he wrote. Very friendly man who used to make things for the BBC, blue Peter etc.

Theme park
Robin Hill is a sprawling theme park situated just outside of Newport, offering an exciting day out for families on the Isle of Wight. Spanning 88 acres of breathtaking countryside and woodland, it features a diverse range of activities for both adults and children. From falconry and nature trails to a tractor train and woodland tree house, there's something for everyone.
Fabulous fun family day out We got there at opening time and didn't have to wait long to get in we headed straight down to the bottom of the park as we had heard it can get quite busy wait times for the popular attractions. We got on the toboggan straight away which brought back so many memories of when I was child going on this ride. We had less than 3 min wait for the other popular attractions which was amazing! The falconry display was simply amazing and the wife and husband who run it should be so proud of themselves! You can tell how passionate and hard working they are. Loved hearing all of their stories and the birds stories too. Was impressed with the amount of cafe stops and picnic seating areas there are dotted around the park. You will never have to go far to find a picnic bench to enjoy some snacks and drinks. The toilet facilities were clean and well kept and again you were never to far from one, which is great for little ones. Staff weee friendly and every question we asked was answered straight away with no hesitation! We literally spent the whole of the opening time at this park, where as other places we've been we've done everything after a couple of hours and left. Lovely day and loved my child experiencing a slice of what my childhood was like

We are so happy that the Robin Hill Adventure Park had reopened this year with what we understand are new attractions. Our family and friends had the most wonderful time there. The adults appreciated the cleanliness of the park, the beauty of the gardens and woodlands, and the kids (4-14) loved the glide ice ring, mini golf, playground, the tobogan run, bouncy nets, and the digger school, they did not want to leave. The Heron Smoke House restaurant was fantastic, everyone loved their choices. We did return on an additional day again to enjoy the park and discover more attractions. We plan to purchase the annual tickets next time!

Went as a group of 2 adults and 4 children — fantastic experience! Even though we couldn’t access everything due to the weather, there was still plenty to see and do. The kids loved the play areas and open spaces, and the atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing. The whole place felt well looked after. Definitely worth a return visit on a sunnier day to make the most of everything!

A wonderful day out for kids of all ages (we have four aged 2-11). We managed to get back for a cheap second day with their return offer and still had more things to do, so could have gone back for a 3rd if the weather was better! A beautiful and well looked after facility with an amazing tree-net adventure that kids love. We loved the toboggan, giant slides, boat rides, falconry show, parks, and diggers. We didn't even get to the grill which I would have loved! It's a great place to take the family and only the toboggan and food are extra cost, so once you are there you don't have to spend a lot.
Adam J — Google review
Great day out for the family! There's so much for the kids to do that a day is easily needed. If you want to take your dog you can. It's a beautiful walk around the grounds even if you don't have kids. The staff are lovely and helpful.

My family and I loved Robin Hill! We came 3 times in a week as we felt so welcomed and loved how well it has been done up. My kids are neurodiverse and they came alive coming here. The new adrenaline Zone was their favourite and they were so well looked after by the team. I couldn't believe the confidence that built in them over their time on clip and climb! The falconry was wonderful and so enlightening too, it was lovely to see baby Ari! Great to see a company supporting locals too. With the new management everything has been cleaned and taken to that next standard, along side so many new things too!! We loved it!
Jamie O — Google review
We had a lovely day out at Robin Hill Country Park with the family. The setting is absolutely beautiful - spacious, green, and well-maintained, with plenty to see and do throughout the day. Highlights for us included the falcon show, ferret walking, trampolines, driving diggers, indoor ice skating, and several great playgrounds – our kids had a fantastic time! The Smoke House restaurant was also excellent, offering tasty food in a relaxed setting. The only downside was a disappointing moment regarding the toboggan ride. Our 8-year-old autistic son wasn’t allowed to ride with an adult because the rule stated he had to be 7 or under - a confusing and frustrating policy that meant he missed out on something he was really excited about. Unfortunately, this did affect the day for him quite a bit. That said, the park overall is well-priced, family-friendly, and full of memorable experiences. We’d still recommend it, especially if you’re looking for a fun day out in beautiful surroundings.
Lee — Google review
This place is magical. It will tick all the boxes for any age. There is enough to do for a whole day, and find you still missed things. The food at The Smoke House is hands down the greatest food I have ever eaten. The ribs were off the charts. The only thing we missed was ice skating, but this was due to the ago of our children. The gift shop has plenty of items of varying prices. Something for every budget, so no tantrums before leaving. I can not recommend this place enough, it really was magical, and very well run. Nestled in a charming red-brick building, The Woodman's Arms is a delightful pub and restaurant that perfectly blends traditional charm with modern comforts. With its inviting interiors, spacious beer garden, and a dedicated kids' play area, it’s an ideal spot for families. While you won’t find sea views here, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming—perfect for unwinding after your travels.
My girlfriend and I had a couple of drinks and food. The atmosphere was ambient, service great and food was excellent. A special thanks to the staff especially Liam the barman, nothing seemed too much trouble for him. We will be back.

It's nice there but be warned.... The portions are huge so think before you order a huge starter before a huge main course! My son ordered the belly of pork bites with other bits on the plate and to be honest, that would have been enough... Then we proceeded to order mains of ham, egg and chips with salad and coleslaw instead of the peas. HUUUUGE plate of food! My daughter had macaroni cheese and salad. Staff, Liam and Ben, were delightful and very happy to adjust the menu for us. Cleanliness was impeccable everywhere including the bathroom. There was no loud music which was a bonus! And it's 5 mins away from the Island Riding Centre if you fancy dropping your kids there and heading here before pick up! All on one level so great for our elderly Great Aunt too. Plenty of parking, outside seating and a smoking area. Will return... But not order a starter lol! Personally, I think they should reduce the portions as they would still be big enough!

Superb food, cooked to perfection. Tuna was excellent. Highly recommended. I think people know how good it is in The Woodsmans Arms. A Tuesday night and they were busy, and the staff are very professional, so there were no issues.

Thank you to your team for an excellent Stake meal this lunch time, this certainly one of the tastiest I have had. And as always the service from your very friendly staff, always feel welcome. See you guys soon. Pete and Barb Wright

Fantastic pub! Food was absolutely delicious and a very good portion sizes. The lasagne was one of the best me and the wife have ever had! Staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough! Dog friendly too which is brilliant and they even gave us a bowl of water for the pooch on a hot day. Definitely recommend if you're visiting the Isle of Wight.

The quality of the food exceeded expectations. Whilst others in our party had burgers and steaks, I had the pork bites starter with cheesy fries. Delicious. And excellent value for money. One of the burgers was not quite done as much as my husband liked it, but it was replaced quickly and he was very happy with it. We will definitely come again. The difficult thing will be ordering something different, as we loved what we had. Many thanks.

The food was so delicious 😋 I had salmon with leeks and sticky toffee pud afterwards. I didn’t want either to end! The seasoning and flavour combo with the salmon was yummy and the fish had been perfectly cooked. Portion was excellent value for money and it was hot when served. Can’t fault this food or service. The waiters were friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

Proximity is everything
For day 3, we bundled attractions like Amazon World Zoo and Butterfly World IOW and other places within a close range, so that the time it takes to travel between all of them is less than one hour. Combined with the average time people spend there, your day should take about 7 hours.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Amazon World Zoo is the largest exotic animal attraction on the Isle of Wight, featuring over 200 species including tropical birds, meerkats, penguins, flamingos, otters, and monkeys. Visitors can experience jungle rainforests with a variety of exotic birds, crocodiles, and penguins while learning about conservation efforts to protect their natural habitats.
Amazon World Zoo on the Isle of Wight is an absolute must! We had such a fantastic day filled with incredible animal encounters. My nephew was completely captivated by the capybaras, also asking loads of questions about new two red panda kits, can't wait to see them appearing sion. It was heartwarming to see the dedication of the staff, chatting and explaining all funny & discussing habits of some of the animals. The park is clearly a labor of love. The animal enclosures are immaculately maintained, and all the animals look so happy and well-cared for. It's a testament to the hard work of the staff and the owners, and it's wonderful to see how the park has evolved over the years, thanks in no small part to the support of the local community. The indoor soft play area was a massive bonus. It gave the kids a perfect spot to burn off some energy in a safe environment. We had such a lovely family day out and will 100% be returning. Thank you, Amazon World, for a truly memorable experience!

Amazon World Zoo was a nice visit overall. There’s plenty of parking and the entry fee is really reasonable. The site itself is clean and well kept, and we enjoyed seeing a good variety of animals — the red pandas were definitely a highlight! There are cafes on site too, which is handy and we found the prices to be fair. That said, the zoo is quite small and you can see everything within about an hour - however we were two adults visiting without children. There was a soft play and outdoor area for kids, so could definitely spend longer if with little ones. Some of the handmade signs give it a bit of a rough-around-the-edges feel, and there aren’t many sheltered spots if the weather turns. Still, it makes for a pleasant little trip, especially if you’re in the area.
Danielle S — Google review
Surprisingly bigger than it seems from the outside. Off season, so café closed in the main area, but the Flamingo café open. Good range of food options hot or cold. Very good quality food and really reasonably priced. We have visited before, but not for a few years so it's improving all the time. Amazing staff, very helpful and informative. The lovely lady in the tropical house gave a talk about the, Sloths, Tamandua and Goeldi monkeys. It was really interesting even though it was interrupted by Icicle the blue macaw, he wanted all the attention! 2 good walks around and you should get to see the animal exhibits. Don't rush, they are animals and they do what they want, go back and and you'll get to see them. The indoor area is amazing, the animals in the twilight zone are so cute. Go through slowly and you will see them all. Worth visiting, great 3 - 4 hours and worth the cost.
Steve W — Google review
A relatively small but packed zoo. Well laid out with lots to see. Highlights for me was the night enclosures and the Amazon section. Unfortunately we missed out of the animal talks/feeding but would have been a lovely addition. Lots of areas are wheelchair friendly. A little confused over the Cafe next to the toilets that was shut during peak season. Not sure if it has been moved to soft play area that we didn't visit. Great family experience with free parking.
Russell C — Google review
Great place. Loads to see and do. A 7 day return pass, so visit again over 7 days. Reduced rates for Island residents with proof of address. Interactions with animals and talks. Soft play also included in the ticket price. Granddaughter loved it.
Wendylady C — Google review
First time seeing a racoon! Loved it. Kids loved it, wasn't very big but was really fun and animals all look happy. Loved the walk through area and nocturnal area. Definitely recommend going especially with a 7 day return on tickets
Kirsty A — Google review
Visited today and we were not disappointed. Enjoyed the talks from the keepers. Felt very privileged to get a glimpse of the Red panda cubs ❤️😍. Only disappointment was the cafe. We should have gone to the Fighting Cocks over the road.
Mark R — Google review
Plenty of animals in the zoo despite it's very small size. Made it round most of the enclosures in just over an hour. Plus hanging around while waiting for various talks, eg feeding the red pandas. On the whole a nice few hours out. There could be some improvements. Although most of the staff were welcoming, some were a bit cynical, especially at the monkey madness play area, entry was time restricted (despite 2 hours being more than enough, given nobody is going to spend £70 on a family ticket to spend 2 hours in soft play). Re entry requires staff buzzing the gate open to control visitors and obviously this stopped their other duties. Unless you read the small print on the admission, you're automatically charged £2 extra per ticket for a "voluntary donation". In a smaller font, are prices without this donation. You are only charged the cheaper price if you explicitly ask for no voluntary donation. At least that was the basis we cAme to understand given our tickets were sold at the higher rate. Overall it's a good day out but there isn't enough to do. Once you've been round in an hour, you find yourself trying to pass the time between hourly talks/feeding. Signage wasn't particularly clear, took quite a bit of looking before finally finding the flamingos hidden behind a door between an outdoor picnic area and the cafe. 3/5. Very nice animals. No reason to book in advance. The zoo was practically empty at 10am, with no queue. Customers picked up later into the morning. The monkey madness offers parties and there are multiple toilets on site. Food wasn't particularly quick out of the kitchen, wait was around 15-20 minutes for a cheeseburger and chips although she was working on other orders too.

If you’re coming to Isle of Wight for a holiday do not miss this place! It’s such a great experience to see beautiful butterflies upclose. You can even hold some of their critters. Ryan one of the employees of this establishment was really great! He was funny and kept us engaged in the knowledge of the critters and butterflies. He was really great in showing people how to hold the animals and where to look for them in the garden. Don’t miss out on a great little time out.

🌟 Butterfly World, Isle of Wight 🌟 Beautiful place with a tropical atmosphere and lots of butterflies – feels really magical ! 🦋 Butterfly World, Isle of Wight – A Peaceful Paradise I had a truly wonderful time exploring Butterfly World. The vibrant butterflies were mesmerizing, and the Japanese garden—with its koi ponds, water fountains, and tranquil paths—was pure serenity. I loved discovering the many species of lizards and snakes, each one fascinating in its own way. The whole place felt like a hidden sanctuary where nature comes alive. A perfect escape for anyone who loves beauty, calm, and a touch of wonder.
Jaffer R — Google review
The start of the visit was great, the kids loved seeing the butterflies and having them land on them made their smiles totally worth it. The only thing that let it down was one member of staff inparticular who decided to verbally berate my husband for his choice of football team after noticing a tattoo on his leg, in front of a whole host of families at the 'meet the animals' talk. We were very much taken aback by how brazen this member of staff was and his attitude to us. Definitely would not return purely based on this experience, which is such a shame because the butterfly enclosure was fantasic!

Delicious food and great service. We are on holiday nearby and we turned up without booking with our baby. They couldn't have done any more to accommodate us, with a table and high chair set up immediately. Incredibly clean toilets. Food was fantastic and came out quickly. Very friendly staff, and helpful with us wanting extra things like water to cool a baby bottle. Would highly recommend this place.

Lovely people and friendly atmosphere. Went for Sunday lunch and am afraid that the food was underwhelming. The pork roast was nice, but with razor thin slices. The beef was plentiful, but the slices were dry and so chewy that both my wife and daughter gave up. I took over, but had to give in after a few bites. Felt like they had been defrosted and warmed up from last week..... The food from the main menu was great, it was just that we came for a nice Sunday roast.

Lidl is a well-known supermarket chain with locations in Newport and Lake on the Island. It offers a wide range of products, from fresh fruits and vegetables to garden furniture. Customers have praised its quality produce, competitive prices, and diverse product selection. The store also features an ever-changing middle section with items ranging from gardening tools to children's toys. Additionally, visitors have commended the helpful staff and convenient location of Lidl.
A great range of products at low prices. Does get busy with only 2 tills open at any one time, but I don't mind as you actually get served by a human and not a self-service till.
Jakob B — Google review
Good products and at exceptionally low prices. Only giving 4 stars as there's only ever 2 tills open at any one time. Will recommend the installation of self serve tills.
Rachael W — Google review
Staff are 10/10 but lack of self checkout tills in 2025 is absurd. I have to wait 15 minutes everytime just to purchase small items. Lidl loses me as a customer everytime bc I’d rather go to Sainsbury’s and pay more because I’ll get served faster
James A — Google review
Had what I wanted, although not as good bakery quality as some of the other Lidl around. No self checkout and long queues, opened other tills but when grabbing quick lunch on work break it isn't a quick easy option. The staff have no ability to smile or be helpful. No bakery bags, ask staff and they tell you to find someone at back, nobody at back, so have to get same staff who goes out back and gets some off floor to put out, only tops up 1 compartment with a few bags and everyone few mins later is hunting for bags again, no common sense from staff and they look like they couldn't care less to be honest. Store really needs some management to train it's staff on the basics
Kurt P — Google review
Be careful of the ANPR camera that is in the car park here. Family members of mine visited in the evening one day and went back early the next morning for another item and the camera logged that they hadn't left the evening before and had stayed in the car park overnight. I have seen people online say similar things and see there are other reviews of this happening. If you can prove via dash cam etc that you did leave the store in between the times the camera states you were there you can have the ticket revoked but it's a lot of hassle for no reason. In terms of the actual store, Lidl bakery is probably the best supermarket bakery! I love the brownies.

Isle of Wight Festival

Festival
Every June, the Isle of Wight Festival transforms Seaclose Park into a vibrant hub of music and culture for four unforgettable days. With roots tracing back to the late 1960s, this festival has become an iconic summer event that celebrates its rich history. The legendary 1970 festival drew an astounding crowd of 600,000 and featured monumental performances from artists like Jimi Hendrix and The Doors.
The First ever festival at (32 years old) went with my 10yr old, mum along with my sister and her husband & adult kids. Amazing experience, family friendly for all ages, plenty to see and do, the headliners were great and for the price we saw some pretty big names 🙌 The sensory tent was amazing for my daughter, who has adhd/asd for a place to relax, calm down, and compose herself ready for the next artist on the main stage. Food is very expensive but its to be expected with the price they need to pay for their own pitch, however there were so many free stalls and activities to take part in. We didn't use the fair ground rides as I don't trust the flat pack ones. As a disabled person myself, my mum (carer) and daughter were able to use the assisted areas/transport and I can not praise these guys enough, with the heat we experienced they kept everyone entertained, hydrated and made the whole operation very smooth and pleasant, the accessibility parking was a god send. I would definitely book again for another year, but I need to do some mega saving before that happens yet.
Caitin W — Google review
Suitable for all age groups, super friendly staff. Well managed/clean amenities. Great range of food. Always a great list of acts.

A festival steeped in history, but creating a new legacy. Filled with sights , sounds and adventure. With mixtures of every type of music , astounding acts and so much more.
Leon — Google review
The Isle of Wight Festival is easily the biggest event of the island, and one of the most hyped. From big artists to small clothing brands, waltzers and ferris wheels, and the most gorgeous food stands, it has it all! 🤩 If you live on the island, it's a no brainer that you should experience the festival at least once. I think if you are living on the mainland, there are other festivals probably more worth going to than this one. Unless there's someone playing you specifically want to see.
Kate A — Google review
Always amazing! Good value, amazing acts, good atmosphere, just rip off prices inside which is not the vendors fault as they get charged so much to be there, multiple said they would not return.
Gem D — Google review
Great festival that's not too big to enjoy. Well organised and easy to navigate.

We have been going for many years, but this year we found the line up was very poor with bands not heard of since the 90's. Although there were a a few great new bands like the Daydreamers it just felt like they didn't really try. We left a early at around 9.30pm to find we would have to wait over an hour for a bus. We won't be back next year which is such a shame a we have loved this festival for many years

I have lost count of the number of Cowes Weeks I have done since the late 70s... I was turned off by the corporate commercialism of the 2000s but in some ways the hard times after 2008 have refocused this event back on the sailing.. Only 600 boats and a lively week for weather but I loved it again

As usual no boats to look at after the start apparently they cannot keep boats in Solent because of the shipping lane (there is plenty of water that isn't in the shipping lane) the little tents on the parade selling a variety of things are far too expensive (that's because the council charge them a fortune for a pitch) the marina was a pitiful site such a shame as used to be an amazing event ☹️

Cowes week is brilliant, there’s always a good atmosphere plenty of food and drink, and to mark the end of cowes week there’s a brilliant fireworks display

Disappointed this year, lacking in atmosphere.... I personally missed not having Cowes radio commentating, as the majority of the races are out at sea. Not having the commentators out in amongst the action is not a good idea at all.... No fireworks either, it's a world class event, not a garden fait. The event brings so much not only to the IOW but most of the coast.... More must be done to save such a historic and prestigious event.... I did take time to email the event but no reply.....

The best night out you can have on the island. Easy to get to from anywhere. If street music and a sing along is your kinda thing then head here for a couple of nights. Going on from midday till late there many memories of dancing, eating fast food and calling Taxis begging to take you home to be had so don't miss out.

We did cowes week for the year 2021, we loved all the boats competing with each other. You must take ride on spectators boat they will take you close so that you can see all the actions from close 😍. Trip was worth it. It began from the last weekend of July and goes for a week. We visited for 2 days, all hotels were fully booked so we took a place via Airbnb in Newport they have direct bus to west cowes.

If you haven't yet experienced the culinary delights of Cibo, you're truly missing out! Nestled along the main road leading to Wightlink's ferry at Fishbourne, this Mediterranean gem boasts a charming rustic chic ambiance. It's an ideal pit stop for travelers arriving by car or those with a bit of time before boarding. Cibo offers an impressive pasta menu that caters to gluten-intolerant diners, ensuring everyone can indulge in their delicious offerings.
This is always my first and favourite stop when visiting the Isle of Wight. We hadn’t planned to come here—it was a last-minute decision after arriving late and looking for somewhere to eat. Even though the kitchen was due to close soon (orders were stopping in 10 minutes, and the restaurant an hour later), the staff welcomed us in, which we really appreciated. We started with the pork belly bites. It was delicious, especially paired with the coleslaw—highly recommended. The wait for our mains was a little long, but absolutely worth it. The mushroom risotto 🍄 is incredible—probably one of the best I’ve ever had and definitely a highlight on the menu. I’ll come back for it! For dessert, we tried the tiramisu. It was nice, but not as memorable as the other dishes, so I’d probably skip it next time.

We’ve been here twice now on our little Isle of Wight holiday and absolutely adored it both times! Was super nice to come back and try the delicious things we hadn’t had yet. Vegetarian options are fab, and the cocktails are so good. The servers are all so wonderful, incredibly professional and warm. You can tell they have a lovely time working here! Thank you especially to Tereza who made us feel so welcome and at ease. Highly, highly recommend this beautiful place ☺️🤍

Very good Italian style foods. Spaghetti Bolognese, penne puttanesca, risotto and seafood spaghetti are delicious. Moreover, the desserts are very good.

Delightful place to visit while charging the car round the corner! Came for breakfast, the sausage and bacon frittata and the mushroom bubble and squeak were both delicious. The service is amazing, friendly and welcoming. A lovely find and will definitely come back to next time we’re on the island. Highly recommend 5*

Excellent service, delicious food. Overall just a very pleasant experience. You can tell this is a good place based on how they treat their returning guests. Great quality of the food. Beer selection could be better but this is an Italian restaurant in England so who am I kidding… :)

Excellent food and great service. This was our first stop off from the IOW ferry and it set us up for the day. Food was delicious.

A wonderful experience. Our server Lucy was very hospitable, we were visiting and didn't need to book a table as we were quite early to eat. To start we had King prawns and also chorizo brucetta. Thoroughly impressed with both starters. We had the chefs special of surf and turf steak with garlic butter, new potatoes and broccoli. The steak was cooked perfectly and the king prawns were fantastic. We are looking forward to coming back again.
