The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is a must-visit destination, featuring three renowned ships: The Mary Rose, HMS Victory, and HMS Warrior. The Mary Rose Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Tudor life with over 19,000 artifacts on display alongside the well-preserved warship. Visitors can explore nine galleries showcasing the ship's history. Meanwhile, HMS Victory is famous for its role in the Battle of Trafalgar and now features an under hull walkway for a unique perspective.
Great place 100% worth visiting. There is lots to see & learn. Its a really interesting place with a number of ships & museums you can look around. Pricing is fair considering the amount you can do & all entry fees into the exhibits go towards the upkeep of the yard & if you just want to walk around it is free, you just cant go into the ships, but can use the giftshops, the free entry museum & the cafe. You can also get a informative boat tour around Portsmouth harbour from here which i would recommend.

Definitely worth the visit and the money. Got the ultimate explorer which allowed unlimited access for 12 months. 1. 10.15 to 11.30 am - HMS Warrior - (Definitely say hi to the lad on table 27) 2. 11.30 to 12 noon - snack break (better to carry snacks from home) 3. 12.15 to 1 pm - Harbour boat tour (included with ulimate explorer ticket) - they take you round the dock and give an overview of the surroundings There are tours every quarter past (10.15, 11.15 etc) 4. 1 to 1.30 pm - Mary Rose - I didn't find much to see here apart from the ship - the 4D cinema is not actually 4D, there are no glasses 5. 1.30 to 2.30 - HMS Victory- they give you audio guide to listen to 6. 2.30 to 3 - Lunch (fish and chip cost 15 and chicken cojouns and chips cost 13) 7. 3pm onwards rest of the places Had to skip water bus due to shortage of time, hence couldn't see the submarine and firepower museum. Note: if you are traveling with kids/elders be mindful because some of the steps are steep. Overall it was grand.

Great day out, but come more than once to see everything. If you only came once for a few hours, it would not be good value. The boat tour was great, really good commentary. Other boat trips to various attractions often full. Lots of places to eat and drink. Without fail, all of the staff are friendly and helpful. Only negative is that the only way to get a map of the place is to buy a guide book!
Mark H — Google review
A great day out for all the family, particularly history buffs! Get the all inclusive ticket which gives you access to all the exhibits. Really, it can be a two day visit if you want to include the submarine and explosives museum and boat tour. Be aware though that the explosives museum isn't open every day.

We arrived at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with no real idea of what to expect – luckily, one of our travel companions knew exactly what this remarkable place was about and became our personal guide through history. The morning started with rain (as it should in England), but by the afternoon the sun came out, giving us the perfect setting to explore the ships and round it all off with a boat tour of the harbour. Standing on decks that once carried sailors across the world was both impressive and humbling – a living reminder of naval history brought to life. The whole experience was well worth the visit: history, atmosphere, and the sheer scale of the Royal Navy’s past glory. And as every proper British adventure should end – we closed the day in a nearby pub, with a cold pint and classic fish & chips. A perfect conclusion to a perfect day.

That's our second visit and this time we stayed for 4 days - which is necessary if you want to see everything and was absolutely worth it. It is really a great museum and the volunteers/employees are all very helpful and nice. The only downside is that it lacks documentation in French (and other languages) apart from the audioguide on the Victory. Being the only person proficient in English in our group, I've spent the four days orally translating everything which was a bit tiring :-D even though that's my usual day job - so I would suggest adding a few signs in other languages for a start.

Need more than a day to see everything. The Victory audio guide tour was superb, and the Mary Rose museum beautifully done. Cafe a little disappointing, no hot snacks on a VERY wet afternoon, fruit scone tasted like it had been on the Victory! Could do with better info on what parts were open or closed and when things closed that day.
Andy P — Google review
A friend recommended the Dockyard, and it was absolutely worth it! We spent two full days there and still didn’t manage to see everything. The site is huge, with a 45-minute guided tour and several themed museums. The Submarine and Firepower exhibitions are located in Gosport, which you can reach by water bus, so it’s best to plan your time accordingly. Overall, a fantastic experience.

HMS Victory is a museum housed within the oldest commissioned warship in the world, known for its role in the Battle of Trafalgar. Commissioned by King George III in 1758, this historic vessel offers an awe-inspiring journey through its decks and crew's quarters. It was Lord Nelson's flagship during the famous battle, and visitors can explore its impressive structure filled with cannons and paraphernalia for an 850-strong crew.
HMS Victory – Weathered Majesty Mid-Restoration HMS Victory is currently undergoing a major restoration project, expected to last at least a decade. The work is essential for preserving this historic vessel, now 260 years old—but it does mean much of the ship’s usual atmosphere is obscured. Canvas coverings and scaffolded areas interrupt the visual experience, and key spaces like the Captain’s and Lord Nelson’s cabins have few artifacts on display. Despite this, the ship remains a deeply compelling visit. Handheld audio guides allow guests to explore interactively, offering insight at various points throughout. The most poignant moment comes on the sickbay deck—where Admiral Lord Nelson died—a stark, quiet reminder of the ship’s legacy and human cost. In addition to walking her timbered decks, visitors can also pass beneath her hull in the dry dock. There, the immense grandeur of this old lady is fully felt, as she sits in splendour—elevated not just physically, but historically. The underside of Victory, exposed and monumental, adds a deeper resonance to her endurance. Victory may not currently look her best, but her bones still speak. This restorative work is her lifeline, ensuring future generations can stand aboard and feel the weight of history beneath their feet.

The ship is being renovated so we didn't get to experience the wind blowing through our hair whilst visiting, all the more reason to come back when it is finished renovating in ~10years! Audio tour was very informative and immersive!! The staff was ready for all the questions we managed to come up with and they were all very approachable! Special thanks to the woman that demonstrated how the canons worked back in the day on one of the few original cannons still aboard! We absolutely loved our time there and would have gladly spent another hour just talking to the great people on the ship!

It's always a 5* for me. I mean come on it's the HMS Victory. A beautiful part of English History. Horatcio Nelson's galleon. You have to see it to believe it. You also have the Mary Rose and museum and HMS Warrior. It's all set in an easy access area still owned by the royal navy. Parking is very close and great value. We parked all day and only paid £4.50. Various cafes and shops dotted around so you can grab a coffee or Beer.

HMS Victory is a legend of naval history – and seeing her in person is unforgettable, even though she is currently under long-term restoration. For the past three years the work has been ongoing, and it will continue for almost another decade, but this makes the visit even more fascinating: you don’t just admire a historic ship, you witness the painstaking process of preserving her for the future. Walking her decks, knowing this was Nelson’s flagship at Trafalgar, is both humbling and inspiring. Even behind scaffolding, the spirit of history is alive – a living monument to Britain’s maritime heritage.
Max H — Google review
Really fascinating to learn all about the history of the battle of trafalgar. There is an audio guide around the ship which is really informative. The ship is being restored so there is a lot of scaffolding. It was great day out.
Anita B — Google review
What an amazing ship! How on earth was this built without modern technology is unbelievable. At present going through a lot of remedial work, but all decks are open to the public. See the spot where Lord Nelson was shot, and the place he actually died. Give yourself at least two hours to visit. One of the best attractions in the country.
Barry ( — Google review
British Naval history in a nutshell. Sadly dismasted and under wraps at present (2025). Very knowledgeable guides and lots of entertaining anecdotes for children and parents too. Watch your head in the narrow lower decks and your footing going up and down the ladders. There are no toilets onboard, known as heads on a Naval Vessel, but plenty in the main dockyard and other attractions included in your rather expensive ticket! Best o get a discount when available or buy an annual ticket as it takes many visits to get to see most of the attractions dotted around the harbour or in the Historic Dockyard. There is a golf buggy to transport you from the dockyard entrance gate, where your bag will be searched, to the main Victory arena. Or you can borrow a wheel chair . Mind out for the old railway lines though! Many places for lunch and seating for your picnic even a discrete garden behind Captain Scott of the Antarctic's statue. Good shops with a wide variety of relevant memento to be tempted by.
Nigel H — Google review
Was an amazing ship. Can't wait for the refurbishment to be done so I can see it in its full glory. Some of the decks are very short so watch your head!

The Ship Anson is a Portsmouth pub with a traditional British feel and hearty food. It's popular with both residents and visitors, and is situated just steps from the iconic Harbour. There are tables and chairs outside, as well as a small patio area, making it a great place to watch live sports in the city.
My friends and I had a very hearty lunch at this pub. Their steak and ale pie with mash and peas was very tasty. Also since it's a pub, they have a pretty good selection of beers and ales. Personally, I enjoyed the Olde Trip. The service was friendly, fast and very efficient. I can recommend this pub for drinks, or food, or both.

Very good selection of beer, and awesome ciders (if you like cider try them out!!!!). Food was generous and served pretty fast. Special mention for the sticky pudding, a must try. I have to mention about the staff as I’ve seen a lot of reviews naming « friendly staff » and such : it wasn’t my experience at all, both ladies at the counter were acting pissed towards me and I felt like I was not welcomed for no reasons, maybe because of my North American accent or French Canadian one? Anyways this lowered the quality of my experience. Smell of alcohol, loud clients, lots of navy stuff all around, makes it an authentic pub, try it, it’s not expensive and British navy flavor all the way.

I’m a bit “old fashioned” and being at sea nearly 35 years I do like a good maritime pub. I’ve been in Portsmouth 3 months and I have enjoyed the service and food here at the Ship A! The staff work hard and at times are ran ragged. This is a proud pub with its roots in maritime heritage and the Union flag. Love this place so much I bought the T-shirt.
Summit S — Google review
Friendly locals, interesting interior, bit too hot inside, and unfortunately I was disappointed with the steak and ale pie as the crust was so hard and almost impossible to cut, was probably in microwave too long, also meat a bit fatty. It was edible and I hadn't eaten all day so I didn't complain. Nobody came to ask me if everything was OK. However the meals my sons had looked good but I will go elsewhere next time I'm in Portsmouth.

The best Sunday dinner I’ve eaten during my stay in England. Excellent selection of beer 🍻 and friendly staff. The place was very busy when we visited and the atmosphere was fantastic. You’re surrounded by conversations and laughter.

Lovely pub, sea views, great staff who were super friendly, excellent local knowledge and a sense of humour! They offered for me to come and pull a pint too which was very funny. I think I was served by a woman called Meg - not sure - but shout-out Meg. Another Greene King coming in clutch with the 20% student discount!

The Ship Anson is exactly what you hope for when you stumble into a British pub: noisy in the best way, full of characters, and with beer that tastes like it has been keeping sailors alive for centuries. We walked in as strangers and walked out as honorary Portsmouth locals – or at least that’s how it felt after a few pints. The banter flies across the room like cannon fire, the atmosphere is warm but sharp, and the staff know how to keep the glasses full without killing the vibe. Back home in Switzerland, such a night would be impossible: we’d all sit in silence, nursing one overpriced drink, while waiting for the last bus. Here, we laughed with people we’d never met, shouted across tables, and felt part of something bigger than ourselves. The Ship Anson isn’t just a pub – it’s proof that Britain’s greatest empire is still alive, and it’s built of wood, brass, and beer. We’ll be back.
Max H — Google review
Belting boozer just outside Portsmouths major tourist traps. Minimal but ok menu. Beer selection more than makes up for any downsides though, and please try the house bitter, well worth it. 💯% Recomended

Cocktail bar
Nestled by the Canalside and a short walk from the iconic Spinnaker Tower, The Alchemist Portsmouth offers an enchanting bottomless brunch experience. Indulge in their Alchemy Cocktail Brunch featuring loaded baps, maple bacon pancakes, and French toast alongside theatrical cocktails and lively music. Situated in Gunwharf Quays, this two-story venue boasts a terrace by the waterside and pays homage to chemistry with concoctions like the Colour Changing One and Lava Lamp.
Such a great place. Great tasting cocktails and great atmosphere. Adam is the most insane bartender I've ever seen. He's super quick and efficient and memorises orders with ease (we literally ordered 8 different cocktails and he was straight on it and I wasn't waiting for long at all). Fantastic bartender with great skill and amazing service. Lovely place to come for drinks. Don't expect it to be cheap because the quality is always going to put the price up and the quality is amazing.

We went for the Boundless Brunch at The Alchemist Portsmouth and it was excellent value at just £45 per person. For the quality of food, service, and drinks included, it actually felt like a bargain. The vegetarian selection is brilliant, with plenty of choice and well-prepared dishes. Service was friendly, efficient, and we didn’t have to wait for a table. The atmosphere was relaxed but lively, making it perfect for catching up with friends. There’s a great mix of seating options too – indoor, outdoor terrace, and comfortable booths – so it works well for any occasion. Overall, a fantastic experience. Highly recommend for brunch in Portsmouth – great food, great cocktails, and surprisingly good value for what you get.

I am here on business by myself. I found a quiet table in the corner out of the way. The staff were attentive and polite. I had the Chicken Katsu Curry with rice. It was excellent...the breaded chicken with an exquisitely spiced sauce and perfectly cooked rice. I suspect the cocktail mixology would be equally good but I don't drink much these days. I would definitely recommend a visit.

It was an unforgettable evening! I want to thank everyone from the Alchemist team, you guys are professionals in your field! Great atmosphere, delicious food. I had a unique opportunity to see a cocktail master class, Frankie showed magic and I was lucky to see it, the emotions are indescribable, it was a wonderful interactive show. I definitely recommend visiting this place, it's worth it.

Brilliant service and cool entertainment with the drinks. Tom and Eszter were our servers and were friendly and efficient start to finish. Really cool place to try out, we had 3 drinks, A Sirens Kiss, Sea-weed and The Legal one.

We visited on a Thursday evening, after a lovely evening of shopping till we dropped. We were welcomed and shown to our table by front of house. We were served by Tom whom we all agreed is an absolute asset to your team. As for most of us it was our first time visiting Alchemist, Tom talked us through the drinks menu, explaining which ones would give us a theatrical experience. And let's be honest if we're going to a venue with a name like Alchemist of course who wouldn't like acting as a scientist whilst making 'potions' to make cocktails. We ordered food too and loved the way it was presented especially the chicken coming in its on basket. The evening was amazing, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you Alchemist Portsmouth, we will definitely be visiting again as well as recommending to family and friends.

First off, what an experience! We're absolutely 🌹 IN LOVE 🌹 with this place. The atmosphere is lovely, nice music to relax to, comfortable seating and free wifi. The charming man creating our drinks was Frankie, he taught us about the fascinating cocktails he was making for us. Over all, we need to come back because we have more cocktails yet to try! We recommend The Alchemist. It is SO worth it. We've got some beautiful memories to look back on. The drinks included in the photos: 1st photo "The Mad Hatter". This was a warm very new to my taste buds but it was very intriguing. 2nd, the second photo is the "High Voltage" ⚡ this was one of our visually satisfying favourites, it's like a plasma ball and came with an 'electric syringe'. We was told if we put it in our mouths it would make it numb, so we added it to our drinks sensibly. 3rd, third photo is 'Wray of Light' 💡 this was made using freeze dried ice, the steam coming out was very entertaining. 4th, the fourth is called "Cosmic Conch", as you pour your drink a blue light illuminates from inside. The 'sea foam' forms at the top of the Conch. 5th, fith photo is "Lavender Rain". On our arrival this was the drink we seen at most tables so we had to try. The flavour is so unique and tasty we could definitely have drank more than a few of these! Gorgeous. The glass used to be old honey despensers (Knowledge from Frankie).

I had an absolutely top-notch experience here! The food was sensational, especially the Cosmic Conch, and the fries were just perfect in taste and temperature. The drinks were spot on too, with great quality ingredients. The service was friendly and attentive, making everything smooth from start to finish. I can't wait to come back for another round!

The Spinnaker Tower, a prominent landmark in Portsmouth, offers visitors an unforgettable experience. Standing at 170 meters tall, it provides stunning 360-degree views of Portsmouth Harbour, the South coast, and the Isle of Wight. The tower features a glass-floored platform and an on-site cafe for visitors to enjoy. Constructed with an elegant design, it has become a national icon for Britain since its opening in October 2005.
Absolutely amazing place with breathtaking views and a lovely cafe. I visited on my second ever trip to Portsmouth as I was mesmerised by the first visit and knew I had to come back. I visited on a week day and there was no wait in the morning. We were instantly greeted by lovely staff who were very welcoming and kind. The lift was extremely quick and even for me, someone who isn’t fond of lifts, I rather enjoyed the trip up because of the facts the staff member was giving us on the way up. I arrived on the viewing deck and immediately was amazed. You could see all the way to the Isle of Wight and across Portsmouth. The glass floor was especially cool (but scary!!) and was amazing to go on. We made our way up to the cafe where we got to further enjoy the views and have some lovely snacks and drinks. The top floor was also very cool, with the feeling of fresh air and a telescope to look through. The gift shop was also lovely and I got a mini model of the tower in there which I adore. We had a day ticket and we came back in the afternoon and enjoyed the views once again. Overall great experience and something definitely not to miss when visiting!

Loved this! Bought a day ticket, which meant we could go back anytime during the day. As it was a bright, sunny day, the views were wonderful. It was very busy in the morning due to school groups, I would recommend going later in the afternoon. Much less busy and a more relaxing visit altogether! The glass floor was fun. We had tea and cake in the cafe and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience - we even forked out for the photos and have been able to download them at home as well. Obviously a sunny day helps make the experience better!
Stephanie C — Google review
I was lucky with the weather and had gorgeous views all round. It was fun watching ferries and other shipping coming in and out. One ferry had some nail biting moments entering a narrow port area! Next time I will book an afternoon tea up in the clouds.

Worth booking at least 24hrs in advance on line to get a discount. Pay on the day is £18.95 adult price. Get the lift to the viewing gallery and see great views across Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent and the Isle of Wight. There is a section of glass floor you can walk over looking all the way down to the ground. There are stairs leading further up to the outdoor garden. There is a cafe in the tower or plenty of eating places in the surrounding area.

Beautiful view, blah, blah. It is the staff that make this such a wonderful day out. From the ticket desk, to the lift operator, to everyone in the Spinnaker Kitchen, every single team member we interacted with was absolutely delightful, smiling, helpful and lovely. Thank you to everyone who works there 👍🏻

I came to visit Spinnaker tower on the 17.10.25. I did not realise it was the towers 20th Anniversary. It was well worth the time and money being up in the tower was absolutely amazing, you could see the isle of Wight, Southampton and even Gosport. The view from up above is simply breathtaking. We will definitely be coming back during the night.

The Spinnaker is a great experience. The views were stunning. There was a lovely rainbow. I didn't dare to walk on the glass floor, it had several cracks in the glass.

Great, if a little pricey activity to include on a trip to Portsmouth. Fabulous views on all three levels IF you time your visit to when it's clear. For Best value book 24 hours in advance. The Coffee ☕ lounge on the middle deck is well worth stopping by. The Mary Rose Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into the 16th-century Tudor warship that was King Henry VIII's favorite. The museum showcases the preserved wreck of the ship, which was built in 1510 and sunk in 1545. Its modern architectural design mirrors traditional English boat sheds, while its interior features advanced climate control technology to preserve the ancient artifact.
I went there on a school trip and it was absolutely amazing. The ship is huge and you could see all of it from the glass rooms. They had projected people doing Tudor jobs and they were so incredible. The 4D cinema was so realistic as there was a fan blowing on us for when we were on the sea and real bubbles for under the sea. The gift shop had lots of variety and well made handcrafted gifts. Definitely recommend to a family day out.

We have the tickets for all the places to visit for the whole year and will definitely come back to see more. We couldn't fit it all in one morning but we loved the Mary Rose museum and the new feature of the 4D small cinema on the top floor. We also visited the HMS Victory which is great too.
Hannah — Google review
Nothing can prepare you for the spectacle of the ship. I walked into the darkened space and found a window to look across at this 500 years old ship. Rooted to the spot, my mouth went dry and for some reason tears started. What followed was an onslaught of sensory stimulation. You get an insight into the people who built the ship, the men that crewed it and the life they had. When was the last time you were THAT close to Tudor England, to timbers felled in the 1400's, to the pursers boots and the shipwright and carpenter that you can almost, almost touch and feel? Incredible. Not so incredible were the out of order and dirty toilets. Men and womens. Also, the tour guides need to hush up a little. Shouting instructions in a cathedral of Maritime Tudor times just isn't appropriate. Some of us want to drink in the place, in peace.
Jim D — Google review
Fascinating visit. Guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Was somewhere I had wanted to visit for many years. Receives a 4 because on that particular day conservationists were inspecting the ship and so I didn't experience the videos or atmospheric conditions that I'm informed usually make it a more memorable and engaging experience. I appreciate such work needs to be done but perhaps outside of visiting times or slightly reduced ticket price on such days.

Me and my brother absolutely LOVED coming here and seeing her! The museum itself is HUGE filled with so much history. We love visiting places like this and seeing what life had been like, especially the first entrance with Henry VIII. We booked tickets on the day and didn't have to wait even though it looked a little busy! The queues were quiet!

My husband and I visited The Mary Rose Museum on 25/10, as part of a belated birthday gift - and it didn’t disappoint. We thoroughly recommend booking the 2hour 1:1 guided tour. The exhibition itself is amazing and you could spend hours inside as all the displays are informative and tell a story that captures the imagination. However, we were lucky enough to be guided by Bob- you’ll recognise him by his costume and friendly rat he carries on his shoulder - and Fred (as a bonus). Bob, although knowledgable about the history of the period, also had innumerable anecdotes up his sleeve. He’d thoroughly done his research and had met with people who’d been part of the original dive team, the team who’d brought up the Mary Rose and the crane driver teams. He also had a dry sense of humour. We were privileged to go behind the scenes and also handle some of the artefact's themselves. Over 20,000 artefacts and a 4D cinema experience, it is a time capsule of the Tudor period. This is an impressive museum, which includes the hull of this Tudor warship. You need an hour minimum, preferably 2 to 3 hours to see and read everything. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Visited The Range today with my friend to buy bedding plants. Loverly gentleman in the gardening/plant department watering the plants who was friendly and chatty. My elderly friend had a nosebleed in the cafe, and the staff in the cafe looked after her. The lady who served us on the till is always friendly. Just wanted to say thank you to the staff at The Range in Gosport this morning. We very much enjoyed our visit to your store.

This used to be a clean, friendly store. Not any more. A glorified warehouse, untidy, dirty. The garden plants were all dead. Never watered. No staff with long queues at the checkout. Whatever happened to the staff who worked here 2/3 years ago. It was a wonderful store then, friendly, helpful staff, the store was clean and welcoming. Not the case now. Very uninviting. Such a shame.
Jean L — Google review
Wide selection of goods: household, DIY, garden, loads of craft things, furniture, and there's even an Iceland section for frozen food. The staff are helpful and friendly (and easy to find). And it's good value.
David J — Google review
Went in for food and the coffee was lukewarm! The toast was barely cooked! My partner waited ages for a bacn sandwich which was barely warm! The tables were mucky and the girls behind the counter were yapping more than concentrating on the orders! Some people were having to go up to ask if they had been forgotten about! Not good! Need to be more efficient and cleaner! So disappointed 😞
Aileen W — Google review
First time back since Covid 19 outbreak. A pleasant shopping experience had. The building is large bright and clean especially since its make over a few years ago. There really is so much to see and they cater for almost everything from the craft section to motoring, DIY to household goods. They have a large section for kitchenware and utensils, laundry and bathroom items. There is a decent furniture section as well as something for the kiddies. I was surprised to find a Christmas tree being decorated as I entered the store, especially as it was only the beginning of September. They were also busy preparing the Christmas section at the rear of the store. My only complaint would be that in some areas, the aisles were narrow, due to additional stock baskets. On the whole, a good way to spend an hour or so.
Peter C — Google review
Good shop overall, but very poor at opening checkouts when needed. Only one person today, which was also the customer service desk and they were dealing with a problematic customer. No other staff member came to serve the customers who were stuck waiting and couldn't pay, even though there were plenty of staff visible in the shop. Staff could do with some training to remind them that getting customers through the checkouts is a priority.
John A — Google review
We went to visit the garden centre which had possibly received a delivery; cages everywhere, making it difficult to access aisles and browse. We were disappointed to see so many dying plants due to lack of water, already on the shelves. Unfortunately prices are very high, yet quality seems to have dropped in the garden centre. In the garden section inside, we found the selection has reduced from what it used to be like. Pots and planter choice is minimal, with empty shelves. Garden furniture choice appears to have reduced as well and very disappointing with prices not being clearly displayed. Tbh I got the feeling of yet another store in trouble.

Visited cafe 89 for a quick bite........More than half the available tables were left piled with dirty plates, tables unwiped and dirty. Only ordered a cheese toastie but it took half an hour, and was tasteless when it did arrive! Not good 😕

Outdoor Activities
Lee-on-Solent Beach is a safe spot for swimming and features a Splashpark and arcade on its seafront. The beach has pebbles but offers clean walkways, access to shops, and great views of the Isle of Wight. Visitors can observe ships, container ships, and surfers passing through Southampton's waters. The calm waters make it an ideal place for collecting shells while enjoying Art Deco buildings that add charm to the parade and local area.
This is a wonderfully quiet beach which belies its close proximity to Gosport and Portsmouth. It offers great views across to the Isle of Wight. There is plenty of free, unrestricted car parking but in side streets - not the seafront which is metered.
Stuart H — Google review
Enjoyed a sunny morning walk along the prom at Lee-on-Solent which has plenty of seats to stop and watch the comings and goings on the water. Rounded our walk off with a coffee and cake at the cafe.
Susan L — Google review
Always a good day out. Superb views over the Solent. Shops and cafes, ice cream, at rhe south eastern end. Plenty of options to walk, either from the quieter Hillhead end or from Lee itself.
Peter W — Google review
Lee-on-the-Solent is a charming coastal spot on the south coast of England that offers a relaxing and peaceful seaside experience. The beach itself is very clean and well-maintained, making it an excellent destination for a quiet walk or a casual afternoon by the sea. However, it’s important to note that the beach is mostly pebbly rather than sandy, so it might not be ideal for sunbathing or barefoot walks. Still, the overall scenery more than makes up for it. One of the best features of Lee-on-the-Solent is the number of benches available along the promenade. These are perfectly placed to take in the stunning views of the sea, especially on a clear day when you can spot ships in the distance and enjoy the fresh breeze. It’s a great place to sit with a coffee or lunch and just watch the world go by. The beach is also dog-friendly, as long as your pet is kept on a lead. It’s a nice place for a relaxed walk with your dog while still respecting other beachgoers. The area feels safe, family-friendly, and not overly crowded. Parking is reasonably priced — two hours cost around £3 at the time of writing, and the car park is conveniently located just a short walk from the promenade. There are also a few cafes and ice cream shops nearby, making it easy to spend a couple of hours enjoying the surroundings. Overall, Lee-on-the-Solent is a lovely choice for a peaceful coastal visit. It may not be a traditional sandy beach, but its cleanliness, accessibility, and beautiful views make it a worthwhile stop for both locals and visitors.
Viola B — Google review
Lovely long strip to walk along the coastline. Plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. Honesty book stand near carpark with loads books for all reading genres. Will definitely go back for many day outings.

Nice and tidy beach with a lots of car park spaces around. Small splash park for the kids as well as playground so kids can spend nice time. Opposite the beach there is a Tesco, nice cafe with really tasty ice creams. This is nice place to practice paddle boarding and kayaking. Good place to spend time with friends and family.

The all-day dining experience features an array of dishes from brunches to comfort food classics as well as a selection of fine coffees and cocktails.
We had a very nice late lunch here after our walk along the seaside. The halloumi starter was super crispy and sea bass perfectly fried with crispy skin. Plus we got a seat outside to enjoy sunshine and harbour views. It was a very pleasant experience.

The food is here always exceeds expectations! The desserts are exceptional! Highly recommend the Brûléed miso caramel custard tart, that was incredible and the highlight of the menu. I’ve never had a bad meal here and they change their menu throughout the year so it’s never boring to eat here.

Dined here this evening for the second time. On both occasions, I have been incredibly pleased with the food and the restaurant itself. The decor is really interesting and unique, and I enjoyed looking at the pictures and paintings. I recommend the alcohol free drinks, I have tried lots of your different options, and these are the best of any restaurant I have visited. A cosy and friendly place to relax.

We had starters, mains and dessert but honestly forgot to take pictures of the mains and dessert. We loved the starters! Portions were a good size. The taste was really good. We didnt wait long for any of our meals. The service and hosts were amazing! We were unable to make a booking online but called the night before and they were able to reserve a table for us. We will definitely be going back. We have family from South Africa that will be visiting soon and we definitely bringing them to this place.

No problem with the parking at Gunwharf as the underground empty spaces are clearly identified with green lights. Ticket on entry, pay on exit. The Cosy Club has one of the most pleasing outdoor views across the harbour and has packed the venue with a genuinely interesting range of decorations. During the gaps in service there is so much to see on the walls and around the seating area. Coffee could have been a little hotter and with the classic breakfast, the beans were a little on the cool side. That said, the sweet vine tomatoes and the bacon were a delight of tastes. I would visit again but ask on ordering for the meal to be hot. The egg was runny though, so it was not overheated.
Mike D — Google review
Just had a fantastic meal that blew me away! The dishes were top-notch, with the Crispy Cauliflower and Pulled Beef & Smoked Bacon Croquettes being real standouts for their flavour and presentation. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was really welcoming. Everything from the drinks to the desserts was on point. Can't wait to come back!

Really nice food and a good atmosphere. Service was excellent. Megan was probably the most organised and polite server I've ever come across. She dealt with our large group with calm professionalism especially when it came to splitting our bill amongst multiple people.
Matt H — Google review
After a nice welcome it all went downhill from there…. Waited close to an hour for food. (I reckon it was forgotten or sat on the pass for a while, hence it all being so cold) Food was mediocre, most of us had club sandwiches. The chicken was dry and tough, all other food we had on the table was ok but all cold. After mentioning the above to the staff we received an apology and a 25% discount from the total bill for the long wait and cold food. However we still had to ask for the 10% service charge to be taken off before paying. Overall a really disappointing experience and for my first time trying Cosy Club I would be reluctant to return.

Great food. I'm not here often, so I can't compare now to the previous management. The staff were polite and cheerful and managed to cater to our table of 8 at a very busy lunchtime. The food looked and tasted great. Good value, too. Nothing fancy, good, honest food. Nice hot drinks, too. The only reason I deducted a star is because the toilet door is a nightmare to open and close due to water damage, and the front door slams, which shakes the whole wall of windows. Sort those, and it's a 5 star...

McDonald's is a timeless fast-food institution celebrated for its iconic burgers and crispy fries. Dining here is consistently enjoyable, thanks to the courteous and attentive staff who ensure a pleasant experience. While it can get bustling at times, this only highlights its popularity among patrons who keep coming back for more. You can't go wrong with a visit to McDonald's!
Always a pleasure to eat here. Polite, attentive and professional service every time. Yes it can get busy and you have a bit of a wait sometimes, but I see that as a positive thing. It means that lot's of people must enjoy the experience and return. Can't fault the place.

Incapable of ever sending the correct order. Sent me 2 double cheeseburgers that weren’t plain like I ordered. Sent a cheeseburger I didn’t ask for and didn’t send the halloumi fries or the large fries I ordered. Paid £20 for only 1 of my correct items to turn up. The place is a joke.

Drive thru took 30 minutes for a standard fillet o fish meal. Half 2 in the morning, 2 other cars in queue, in-store dining shut so we were their only customers. Curious as to why, the service time is consistently slow regardless of busy day time or dead quiet night time. Hope to find out the root cause and aid the store's performance.
Calvin C — Google review
Been fishing on Millennium pier in Gosport started to get late so thought we'd stop off to get something to eat. Ordered from the screen in store, wanted to eat in but didn't realised that they shut upstairs at 9pm. Couldn't see our order on the serving screens. Seems a member of staff took it upstairs even though we couldn't get there! Then I wanted Tomato sauce no one about near the serving area lucky was able to find a member who helped. I guess given that we were crammed into the small ground floor area with limited table space the atmosphere wasn't great.
Ron R — Google review
If I could give less than one star I would. They get orders wrong here over and over again, regardless of if you collect or get delivery. We’ve let it slide so many times, and thought we’d try one last time. Order was almost completely wrong. Freezer cold. No fries with any of the meals despite them not running out of fries. Called manager. He said it’s utterly embarrassing they could get it so wrong this time, but there’s nothing he could do. Told me to contact just eats. I tired contacting them. It sent me to a screen to chat about my problem to AI. They said we are sorry to see there’s a problem with McDonalds. Asked me to pay a PayPal fee of £1 refundable to soeak to an advisor. Luckily I had my PayPal notifications on, as they immediately took £35 out of my account and set up a “subscription” of £35 to answer a bloody question?!?!! Absolutely disgusting from all involved. I and my family will never eat at McDonalds again and never use just eats either. Scammers and crooks the lot of them!!!

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Royal Armouries: Fort Nelson. Not quite as popular as The Royal Navy Submarine Museum, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Fort Nelson, situated on Portsdown Hill in Hampshire, is a restored Victorian fortress that was built between 1860 and 1871 as part of the Palmerston Forts to safeguard Portsmouth and its Dockyard from potential invasion. It houses a remarkable collection of artillery from different periods, including a 15th-century Turkish bombard cannon, a massive 200-tonne railway howitzer, and the notorious Big Babylon Iraqi supergun.
Amazing hidden gem. Easy to get to from M27. Massive fort with plenty of helpful staff to guide you and answer questions. Lots of young children there running about and enjoying the outside space. Kids loved long the underground tunnels. Free of charge except for a modest parking charge. Spent a couple of hours there. Incredible collection of cannons and other military equipment. Would definitely recommend for all ages. A real must see.
Barbara F — Google review
We had the best time exploring this local peice of history. The Fort has been well looked after and you can clearly see the ongoing work to restore sections and to keep it going. The exhibits were great, very knowledgeable and interactive. The tunnels were fascinating and give a real feel for it would have been like for our serving solders at the time. The summer assault course was also well loved by our child, reasonable price and can go around as many times as you like. Entrance is free just pay for parking £3. There is a donation box which suggest £3 a visit but definitely worth more than that for a few hours amusement. We will be taking a picnic next time so we can stay for longer.

A very wet and blustery day today, but despite this me and my father had a wonderful time at fort Nelson today. We have been once before and we returned again and what a pleasure it was. Fort Nelson has always been a fantastic display of history and an Incredible piece of military construction. The new D- Day exhibition was a nice touch this time and as usual the cafe delivered top notch service and food! Please do come here it's such a wonderful place! The staff are also extremely friendly especially the lady at the gift shop!

What a great experience, I last went here in the 90's when I lived in Portsmouth. It now has a wonderful new entry with shop amd cafe. The whole museum feels fresh and welcoming. The displays are very informative and the kiosk at the parade ground has very warm and friendly staff. I would highly recommend this museum
Will J — Google review
A wonderful example of a nineteenth century fort. One of 20 forts built in the 1860s to defend Portsmouth. Also houses an amazing collection of guns, mainly big ones. You can explore the fort and the underground tunnels. And it’s free! Just pay £3 to park.
John S — Google review
Excellent experience. The current exhibition "Standing with Giants" is very moving in the way it displays the number of soldiers, sailors, airmen and civilians killed on D-Day. The museum itself eloquently shows the evolution of armaments through the ages and also how Britain protected itself from foreign invasion in the past. A great day out.

A very moving display in a great back drop. It would have been 5 stars, however pushing a wheelchair around the gravel surface was a massive challenge. A temporary pathway would have been benefical.

Great service and great fun.. however it appears the day was over booked - we was there a total of 3 hours+ for 2 15 mins races. A little long considering we were on a stag and had other plans too. Outside of that though - brilliant.

It was my first time so I swerved a few times and was stopping and starting at first. The staff there were so kind and I got great advice for how to drive which really helped me. I didn't turn as fast as I should have at a bend and crashed - their kindness helped me calm down and they made sure I felt well enough to continue. Overall it was a great experience for a first time even with the forceful crash and I'd go back there specifically again to re-try go karting.

They then continued to go above and beyond to aid us in having an amazing day. Jack, Brad and Joe really did make our day and give my daughter the confidence to want to come back asap. Thank you again Gents. Big love 💙

Titchfield Abbey, located in the picturesque valley of the River Meon in south Hampshire, is a 13th-century monastery with extensive ruins and an imposing Tudor gatehouse. The site is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument under the care of English Heritage. It offers a dementia-friendly environment with calming gardens and regular events for visitors to enjoy.
The ruins of this 13th Century Abbey which was remodelled into a grand mansion following the Dissolution of monasteries during Henry V111's reign, is a lovely little visit if in the area. Maintained by English Heritage it is Free entry. There is an area for Parking which is through a small, tight entrance. I walked here so not sure if parking free orher than if your an English Heritage member. The ruins are lovely to walk around and I noted a number of people sitting on the grass areas enjoying picnics. There are 2 porta loos (Toilets) available.

This is a stunning historical site that transports visitors back in time. Originally a 13th-century abbey, it later became a Tudor mansion, and its well-preserved ruins reflect this rich history. The Gothic architecture and remnants of the grand gatehouse and cloisters are particularly striking. The abbey is set in a peaceful, scenic location, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed exploration. Whether you're a history buff or simply enjoy picturesque ruins, Titchfield Abbey offers a fascinating and serene experience.

Worth a few minutes of your time if passing to see this ruined Tudor mansion. Combine with a trip to the church in the nearby village of Titchfield for an interesting insight into the 'Risley' Earls of Southampton.

Absolutely lovely delivery tonight everything piping hot all nothing missing from my order. And juicy chicken not dry like I’ve had before. 10/10 dinner tonight.

Terrible experience. Fries not delivered, for family treat. Ruined evening, and no cares given, as rating unsatisfactory just doesn't make the evening better! Shocking🤬 To be clear, fries on plate are ones we cooked ourselves!!

Absolute jobs worths that work here. Everyone is very rude and the customer service is appauling. Got served by a young blonde girl just now and never had service like it. What a rude and unprofessional person. Just got home after ordering 4 flaming wraps with hardly any lettuce and no flamming sauce. Wish I had said something whilst I was there but was trying to keep my cool. Terrible experience they all need to be sacked and get some actual adults working there not kids.
Brandon S — Google review
The food was alright, average for kfc but they forgot my mum’s chicken, and gave her a piece so cooked she could flick the skin and hear it, it was so dry. But what I wasn’t pleased with was a member of staff, I couldn’t see who it was but there was a woman shouting at staff- loudly. We could all hear her and she was being very rude to her colleagues. She also left to do something and as she approached the door to exit she leaned over the bin and spit her gum into it, it was disgusting. Overall I think she was extremely unprofessional and I am disappointed.

Ordered a wicked variety bucket takeaway (order 2044). Got home to find that my 10 pieces were 1 keel piece, 2 wings, 1 breast piece and 6 legs!!! Tried to call and complain. No reply on the phone. Very disappointed. I am consistently disappointed with this branch.

I don't know whether anyone else had my experience with Fareham KFC Drive through. Each time whenever I made my order, they is always something missing. Recently I started checking there itself and last 3 times I checked my order there itself and had to ask them for the missing item which was kept on the side desk.

Always great ordering from here. Normally through the app and delivered. But they rarely have mistakes on an order or cold food. Definitely recommend this one compared to the one down in Gosport

Self service tools to order food are easy to use. Food delivery quick and yummy to eat. Plenty of parking. Haven't used the drivethru option.

Day 4

Southeast side of town
For day 4, we recommend exploring the southeast side side of town. Start the day off with The Royal Navy Submarine Museum, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

The Royal Navy Submarine Museum, located in Gosport, offers a fascinating insight into the world of British submarine warfare. Visitors can explore the history and development of submarines through guided tours and interactive displays. The museum is home to a collection of historic submarines including HMS Alliance, the only surviving WWII era British submarine. Guests can experience life onboard and learn about covert missions firsthand. Additionally, the museum features other notable submarines such as Holland 1, X24, and a German Biber midget submarine.
A fascinating experience to look around the submarine Particularly enjoyed the set up of the rooms and kitchen facilities as if it was just left there. Audio of how it would have sounded in the areas really added to the experience
Tiffany S — Google review
Worth doing to learn about the history of submarines. Tour over HMS Aliance aswell as the Holland submarine which was built in 1904. Museum is interesting and some of it is interactive too. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly too. The view over Portsmouth Harbour is nice from the Gosport side. If you buy an Ultimate explorer ticket at the Historic dockyard naval museum, the submarine museum is included along with the water bus that takes you to the submarine museum directly. You board the water bus alongside the harbour tour boat which is also well worth doing and again is included in the ultimate explorer ticket price. You can visit multiple times with one of these tickets so if this is your thing, it's well worth doing.
Jan B — Google review
Really interesting museum, have to admit didn't spend too long in the main museum, most of the visit was concentrated on HMS Holland, amazed a submarine this old has survived, houses in a brilliant gallery. HMS Alliance, was really great to look around, there aren't many places you can go on board and explore a 1940's submarine, bit cramped, but well worth it and the submariner on board was really helpful with questions. If you are visiting the dockyard, well worth popping over and having a look around.
Scott B — Google review
Truly exceptional museum full of interesting exhibits, one of a kind peices and all well laid out with just the right level of explanation. Highlights are HMS Conquerors captains cabin, the Jolly Roger flags and HMS Holland. An easy 5 stars and the best of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Explorer Ticket
Stevie B — Google review
Visited the Submarine Museum in Gosport with a Full Dockyard Pass. Drove there—easy route and free parking, which was a plus. If you're already at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, there's a water taxi option, which makes visiting more convenient if you're hopping between sites. HMS Alliance is a rare and fascinating vessel—the last surviving Royal Navy Amphion-class submarine, with Cold War service and a record-breaking dive in her history. For adults interested in naval history, she’s genuinely impressive. Unfortunately, the tour didn’t do her justice. The guides were friendly and helpful, but both said they couldn’t go into much detail, which rather defeated the point. The visit felt rushed and surface-level. Inside the museum, many of the interactive displays weren’t working. We had a young child with us who generally finds museums boring, and the broken exhibits meant there was little to engage him or bring the experience to life. It was a missed opportunity to make the museum more accessible and enjoyable for families. Even with the Dockyard Pass, the ticket price felt steep for what was on offer. The museum has potential, but it needs better upkeep, more engaging interpretation, and a slower, more thoughtful approach to justify the cost—especially for families and history enthusiasts.
Bee ( — Google review
It’s quite rare to see a submarine on land, and even more special that you can actually go inside and experience what life was like on board. The interior of the submarine is fascinating, though the nearby museum has relatively few exhibits, and some interactive displays didn’t seem to be working. Overall, still a good experience.

Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery is a free cultural institution located in a grand Victorian building that offers visitors an opportunity to delve into the city's rich history and cultural heritage. The museum features themed displays and exhibits, including recreated rooms of dockyard workers' kitchens and 1950s living rooms, as well as a football exhibition showcasing Portsmouth's identity.
I've lived in Portsmouth for a few years and keep forgetting about the museum. It's a lovely building, and it's free to get in, so we'll worth a visit. We visited this time for the Ancient Sudan exhibition in conjunction with the British Museum, which was very small but interesting and educational. We had a potter around the gift shop, and bought several items, including a book, a mug, post cards, books, and a pamphlet about the battle of Southsea in 1874. Because it's free to get in, we didn't feel we had ro see everything in one go, so we went off for lunch and plan to go back for both the art exhibition that's currently on until August 2025 (The Quietness of Feeling) and the Portsmouth Suffrage Banners.

Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery is a fantastic place to visit! The location is convenient and easy to get to. It's free to visit. The building itself is a well-preserved historic site that's clean and spacious. Inside, the exhibitions are really interesting, especially the Sherlock Holmes gallery. There was also a special travelling exhibition dedicated to Sudan that was both informative and moving. A lovely volunteer lady was on hand to answer questions—she was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. There’s plenty to enjoy for both adults and children, with engaging exhibits and hands-on activities. The museum also has clean toilets, a gift shop at the entrance, a nice little café, and an outdoor picnic area, which is perfect on a sunny day. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in Portsmouth!
Rosi P — Google review
Such a lovely museum, really informative and a great level of interaction too. The staff were absolutely lovely and the Halloween decorations gave us a good laugh. We came specifically for the whispers of the dance floor exhibition, and alongside rest of the museum, it was thoughtfully and tastefully done. Would recommend as it is free and not too busy
Holly S — Google review
Great museum with local history. Love the Southsea beach and Arthur Conan Doyle displays. Went for the new nightclub exhibition which was fun. Shame not everything was open, but still plenty to see.
Emma B — Google review
Fantastic local museum, if you are local and haven't been it's a great idea to check it out - it's free! First thing, it is 100% wheelchair accessible as far as I can see, there is a lift to the upper floors and gently sloping ramps around the exhibits, as well as some onsite parking. Second, this is perfect for kids. Plenty of interactive exhibits, some drawing, some touchy-feely, some video watching there's plenty to do if the kids enjoy a museum environment. As it's Easter there is an Easter hunt going on, with chicks in various exhibits and a maritime themed search for little crochet/knit creatures as well. The ground floor has a Sherlock Holmes/Sir Arthur Conan Doyle exhibit which is thorough while being a little bit dark - I assume to protect the items? The second floor has examples of house interiors (complete with some semi-creepy models of people) as well as history of Portsmouth. Up top there is decorative arts (closed for renovation), football and the 'collections'. While some of the interactive buttons don't work, small kids probably won't mind and there's enough stuff to look at overall. And if it's sunny there's a little outdoor area as well. The cafe is very small, and quite loud however that is to be expected. The shop is well appointed and has a nice variety of goodies if you are so inclined. There is some parking onsite, and some paid parking directly on the road. About 7-10 minute walk away around the Norfolk Street area there is on-street parking 3 hours for free, no return within 4 hours.

A beautiful building housing an even more beautiful collection. The exhibits range from local history to a fascinating collection dedicated to Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes and it is presented in a way that feels personal rather than overly formal. I especially liked the art gallery section, it was varied, colourful and well curated. Outside the garden is a peaceful retreat perfect for a quick break before heading back inside for more exploring. This is one of those places that quietly earns its strong visitor ratings by offering substance over spectacle, it is calm, welcoming and surprisingly varied.

Portsmouth Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Church of St. Thomas of Canterbury, has a rich history dating back to 1188 when the first chapel was established on its site. Over the centuries, it evolved from a parish church to gaining cathedral status in 1927.
Visited as part of my pilgrim passport tour. The highlight is the ship sigil which is displayed inside the cathedral. Looks really cool. Originally founded in the 12th century, it became a cathedral in 1927. The cathedral features beautiful stained glass windows, a striking nave, and a peaceful atmosphere. Its history is rich, reflecting Portsmouth’s maritime heritage

Rosie F — Google review
A peaceful sanctuary in the middle of the city. The architecture blends centuries of history with more recent additions, creating a space that feels both grand and welcoming. The stained glass is beautiful, especially when sunlight streams through it, and the quiet inside is a lovely contrast to the busy streets outside. Staff and volunteers are warm and knowledgeable, happy to share the cathedral’s story. With so many visitors praising it online, it is clear that this is a place that leaves a lasting impression.

Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth is a captivating family attraction that offers an immersive experience with marine life. With over 40 displays, visitors can gain a deeper appreciation of the incredible variety of marine life worldwide. The aquarium features open-top tanks where guests can get up close with stingrays, tide-pool inhabitants, sharks, and coral reef fish.
Really had a great time! Go in with an open mind as most of these reviews are negative but myself, partner, 7 year old and 8 month old had so much fun! They would of course benefit from selling ice lollies and drinks on hot days. The lady who done the 11am talk and feed in the tunnel was brilliant very informative and knew what she was talking about.

The most healthy aquarium I’ve seen in a while! The fish were very good and the whole space was easy to navigate. You can leave and enter at any time after buying a ticket, and there’s a cool gift shop at the end. As a fish enjoyer this was such a great experience, I recommend it.

Superb, if you're in the area a visit is a must. You get a stamp so you can go in and out all day! A good play area out the back and a great selection of well presented marine life awaits.. fabulous.

Highly recommend getting the yearly pass! Outstanding value and the place genuinely gets better the more you go. First visit I thought wasn’t all that but how silly I was. The talks are amazing and there’s a really great selection of aquatic creatures. They also take on rescue animals so show em some support. Outdoor splash area is perfect in warmer months for the little ones to burn off energy. It’s great for a rainy day too. I can see it’s possible to be underwhelmed if visiting for the day only and comparing it to other aquariums. It’s defo more one for locals with young children to have as an easy and affordable activity.
Sean S — Google review
It was a good place, I loved seeing the fish and it was nicely maintained. Good price. Very quiet too, which is great if you're looking for a spot to relax and just enjoy the sea life. There's a nice range of fish from seahorses, a walk in tunnel, little sharks, starfish, even a lobster which crawled up to the side of the tank threatened me and then crawled back into his comfortable tunnel. However, there's one small thing which made me alter the review to 3 stars. The man manning the till seemed polite enough, and yes, it isn't really necessary to hold doors open for people. He did a kind gesture when he helped to hold the doors open for me and my wheelchair, but on the way out he didn't budge. It could be my imagination, it was hot put all weekend... but if there's a chance he wondered why my legs worked when using them to push open the door. Well... I have vertigo when standing for so long. The wheelchair helps prevent palpitations which cause fainting episodes. Hence why my legs worked, but the rest of me didn’t.
Neon B — Google review
We were very excited to take our 3 year old here today. Unfortunately it wasn’t what we expected. It took us a 39 minutes to do the whole aquarium, this was including the 15minute sting ray feed. To which I will say was interesting. But unfortunately that was the highlight of the whole 39 minutes. There isn’t much of a variety to see. We would assume there would be activities on the way round for younger ones but wasn’t, . There were Many facts posts etc which were interesting but nothing interactive for younger ones to engage with. The outside play area was not inviting and very basic with minimum activities for children and looks unkept. I wouldn’t say this is a day out for a family. And you’d see more variety of fishes in an aquatic shop. Very dissatisfied feel we waisted £60 on entry. We didn’t even try the cafe which is located outside the aquarium so you can’t even buy a coffee and sit in “play area” with your child if you wanted to. The gift shop selling animals that are nothing to do with “sea life” and the ones that did have were overpriced and again not the ones we saw. We do understand the funds go into feeding the animals and maintaining the aquarium but feel this could be done better and it has a lot more potential to get it where it could Be. Good luck for the future.

The Dolphin Pub & Kitchen, located on the High Street at Old Portsmouth, is said to be the city's oldest pub, established in 1716. The historic bar area features stone flag floors and roof beams adorned with memorabilia. This charming establishment offers a fantastic selection of real ales and serves everyday pub plates in its quaint quarters and beer garden. Visitors can enjoy great service and well-priced food while taking in lovely views from the cozy bar area.
Delicious traditional British food. When you tire of the chain restaurants in Gunwharf Quays; come and fill your belly with some wholesome grub. My food was served piping hot, and I enjoyed every bite. The young lady waiting on my table was polite and attentive. The atmosphere is homely.

Was so looking forward to returning to a popular venue, but was not impressed with the gloomy atmosphere with the dark decor. We used to visit fairly regularly many years ago when it was a real 🙏 to go there. The meal was a good choice of food but was luke warm and swimming in gravy. Would we visit again? Don't think so!

Popped in for a pint recently while out for a walk and wasn’t disappointed. It seems a friendly pub with a nice atmosphere. It was cosy and well kept, with some good event offerings, including a curry and comedy night. The beer was good and the staff friendly and welcoming. Will visit again!

Read such great reviews so only one that we stopped by when drove to Portsmouth for a day out. Dog friendly yes it was all around the pub but nothing on menu for dogs so something to add maybe. A bowl of water was given though! Ambience decent. Food was average! The seafood pie was a let down! The cocktail was just sugar sweet. Chicken was tender in the meal. Sauce though tasted more like Passata. Lasagne was decent. But for the price main with some peas thrown as side and chips or fries hmm… ! Seasoning, taste all needed a bit of an extra!

I had a pleasant breakfast at The Creek on a sunny day, primarily for its scenic location. While the food appeared appetizing, it lacked flavor and the poached egg was undercooked. However, the attentive waitress promptly resolved the issue by replacing it with a more appealing and delicious plate of food. My friend also enjoyed her breakfast but found the bacon to be too fatty. Overall, we were satisfied with our experience at this charming restaurant situated in Haslar Marina and plan to visit again soon.
Great venue and amazing staff. We had a 83rd birthday brunch here and were bowled over by the friendliness and help the staff gave us. Food was fab and we were impressed with the location. We will be back. Thank you .

We have eaten here quite a few times. On all occasions the food has been amazing, whether that is breakfast, lunch or dinner. The location is also so good, if you like boats. In the past the service has either been very good or very slow! Last night when we visited it was very good. The team were very friendly, the amount of time we waited was entirely appropriate and the food was amazing. Thank you very much.

The food in past has been reasonably good. Today, on a quiet day it was terrible. Not only that that they tried to charge us for a dish which they were not even serving because it was unavailable. Hair in my daughter’s salad and undercooked calamari for my wife. No apology or discount. Not going back again

Lovely cafe set within the haslar marina. A great menu to choose from, including fish and chips and burgers. The service was both friendly and professional. When the weather is sunny, I can't think of a better place to be as it has great views across the marina. Highly recommended

An indoor/outdoor bar with views across Haslar marina and creek. Excellent food, a good choice of bottled beers and some ciders. Dog friendly in the bar and on the verandah but not in the indoor restaurant. Quirky booking system, online 24 hours or more in advance. Phone number goes to answerphone, mobile is the managers personal number. Fortunately it wasn't too busy on an early weekday evening. Food is good, at the top end of moderate, there no cheap options. We had the individual beef wellingtons which are homemade and superb quality. "chefs veg" is a selection of green and other veg, nicely cooked. We'll be going back.

Sadly we had a poor experience..very very slow service meant 3 hours to serve an evening meal..and no checking up or chasing up. Staff were not in anyway on top of this.. when we asked we were repeatedly told its coming..it wasn't. 1 apology squeezed out after the delayed starters..2 of which even then were clearly forgotten...no apology when we waited nearly an hour for desserts and no explanation or attention given. Shockingly poor service. No awareness of theie customers.Shame because the food was good...when it came

Nestled in the heart of Portsmouth and Southsea, Andre's Food Bar is a charming family-run establishment that proudly holds the title of the oldest independent sandwich shop in the area. Known for its 'fuss-free, fresh food served with a smile,' this delightful eatery offers an impressive selection of baguettes, paninis, salads, and baked potatoes at wallet-friendly prices. With signature baguettes starting at just £4.
Banging food, brilliant staff and the best iced coffee in Southsea.

I recently visited Andre's, expecting a pleasant outing, but unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. The staff were shockingly unprofessional!! I noticed them laughing among themselves as I was placing my order. I felt very uncomfortable and self-conscious! As for the food, it was equally disappointing! A messy baguette topped up with an incorrect proportion of ingredients and tasted like stale food! I hope this review helps Andre's to improve both their food quality and the staff's attitude toward customers.
Sanaz A — Google review
I've never had an issue with Andres before but today has ruined my opinion of them. they left a panini off of the order so only one of them were delivered. I rang up expecting that they could send out the one I'd already paid for (and paid delivery on) but they said I'd have to collect. I'm not near an Andres and shouldn't be expected to go all the way there to collect something I already paid delivery on. I go in a lot but that's the end of my support

Sadly the last 2 times have been disappointing, I always get a seafood baguette with extra onion and seafood sauce, last time my partner brought it home for me I complained there was no extra seafood sauce.... he insisted he asked and figured perhaps they forgot and we left it at that. He went and got me one on Monday (2 days ago) Brought it home and same thing, was actually dry and hard to see any seafood sauce never mind any extra, same goes for the onion there was barely any. The size of the baguette also bears mentioning as they have become much slimmer than they were, it's almost comical how skinny they are and considering its £5.30 I don't feel that it is value for money or worth the money. I appreciate everyone's feeling the pinch but don't like being ripped off and sadly that's what I feel. Saying that I still gave 4 stars as don't want to spoil they're rating over constructive criticism.

Great sandwiches and great measures for covid with everybody wearing masks and having plastic shield at the till when you pay. Chicken sandwich and brie and bacon sandwiches were wonderful! Caffe latte was ok and it felt a bit liquidy. If there is any no sugar option with oat milk alternative will help this more. Lovely staff as well!!

I paid £7 for a part-baked baguette, which is outrageous, especially considering how thin and tiny they are. The flavor was lackluster and mediocre at best. For that price, I expected something exceptional. There are plenty of better bakeries offering more for half the price. Despite their heritage in Pompey, this place is massively overpriced. I spent nearly £40 on lunch here over two days while working nearby. I wouldn’t mind if the food tasted amazing, but honestly, I’d rather have a Greggs steak slice. This place tries, but their cheap ingredients let them down. It's very expensive and the quality is poor. I won’t be returning, as much as I'd like to support a local business, it’s simply too expensive for subpar food.

We had a lovely salad bowl of their garlic chicken with lots of fresh salad. Topped with a chilli mayo sauce. Also a pulled pork panini which was equally tasty and fresh. Great value at £9:50.
