Setagaya in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Setagaya, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Setagaya offers a quieter, more residential side of Tokyo with easy access to the city center. You can stroll through Todoroki Valley, a rare natural ravine with a walking path and stream, or visit Gotokuji Temple, known for its rows of beckoning cat (maneki-neko) statues. Neighborhoods like Shimokitazawa and Sangenjaya are popular for their small theaters, vintage shops, cafés and live music venues. The ward also hosts the long-running Setagaya Boroichi flea market and is home to cultural spots such as the Setagaya Art Museum.
With favorites like Kanda Kikukawa Kaminoge, Umimachi Don, and Shibuya Sky, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Genki Sushi and Gyoza no Fukuho so you can get the best taste of Setagaya while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Shinto shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled within a lush forest, Meiji Jingu is a serene Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Established in 1920 and reconstructed after World War II, this tranquil haven features over 100,000 trees donated from across Japan. Each year during Golden Week in late April, the shrine comes alive with its vibrant spring festival that showcases traditional performances like Bugaku dance and Noh theater.
This place is in the heart of Tokyo as well, the Meiji Jingu. I was surprised because the place is vast. When entering, you can really feel that you are inside of a sacred place. You can only here the sounds of the bird while walking even though there's a lot of people coming and going. The forest gives a peaceful vibes and I really liked it. The walk is long but when you reach the main temple, it is really crowded but still happy to see it. I was also interested at the couple tree and we were so blessed to see a wedding pictorial there. We also went to the Well. It has an additional maintenance fee but unfortunately we didn't see much because it is a seasonal based spot. Overall we enjoyed the walk.

This shrine was really peaceful and beautiful, and what makes it even better is that everything is completely free—no entry fees, no lines, and no waiting. You can just walk right in and enjoy it at your own pace. It’s located right by a park, which makes the entire area feel even more scenic. The path itself is gorgeous, especially right now, with plenty of greenery and quiet spots to take in. It has that same calm, natural charm that many shrines do, but what stood out most to me was how it feels like you’ve completely left the city behind. My friend and I both commented on how relaxing it was to walk around—it almost feels like a hidden escape in the middle of everything. If you’re looking for a peaceful stroll or just a moment away from the city noise, this is the perfect spot to unwind.
Marissa W — Google review
We came here around 5pm and it was still really busy, but the moment you walk through the big torii gate you can still feel how calm the place is. The forest path is beautiful and quiet, even though it’s right in the middle of the city. It really gives you a break from all the crowds in Harajuku. The shrine itself is simple but very beautiful. It’s not about flashy decorations, it’s more about the atmosphere and the space. Even with people around, it still feels peaceful and respectful. If you’re already in Harajuku or Shibuya, it’s an easy walk and definitely worth visiting — especially if you want a little moment of quiet after being in the city all day.
Zella B — Google review
Beautiful place to visit, this temple is quite impressive and very soulful. Lots of pathways to walk around these very serene grounds. There’s little souvenirs shops, a couple of restaurants and lots of restrooms available. I ate a Beef/egg ramen soup with a Sapporo Beer and it was delicious and not very expensive (1500¥) You can also come directly with the metro as there is a station stop right at the front gates called “Harajuku Station”. A must visit! GOOD JOB!
Sacha P — Google review
Even with all the tourists around, this is probably one of my favorite spots in Tokyo. There are so many entrances you can come from, which is nice. We went in from the Harajuku entrance and the torii gates were beautiful and super serene. It really makes you wish you had places like this back home. The walk from Harajuku to the actual Meiji Jingu shrine area is about 20 minutes, but honestly, it’s such a pleasant walk. I really enjoyed it.
Elijah E — Google review
The Meiji Jingu shrine is one of the larger shrines. Located in Yoyogi Park, it’s a 20 to 39 minute walk from Shinjuku train station. Although not as ornate as other temples, it has a large courtyard and the camphor trees are impressive as is Yoyogi Park. If you need some quiet and to escape the heat and hustle of Shinjuku and Shibuya, this is the place to go. We were lucky to be there for the Autumn Chrysanthemum Festival. Be sure to also visit the garden in the park as its locker and when the flowers are in bloom would make for some great photos! Meiji Shrine is free but park cost a modest donation to support the upkeep.
CW — Google review
Google Maps strikes again! Somehow it led us on the back way to Meiji Jingu Shrine—a running joke on this trip. After a bit of a trek (our feet were feeling it), we finally arrived and immediately stepped into a serene, tree-lined path that felt like a peaceful escape from Tokyo’s chaos. The forest vibe here is unreal—lush, calming, and instantly refreshing. We didn’t linger too long, but we still caught the main shrine and got our goshuin, a perfect little keepsake from this iconic spot. The architecture is elegant, the atmosphere tranquil, and the whole setting is a must-see for anyone visiting Tokyo. And just when we thought the visit couldn’t get any better, we were lucky enough to witness a traditional Shinto wedding! The bride and groom looked straight out of a period drama, graceful and picture-perfect. Even in a short visit, Meiji Jingu delivered a magical, only-in-Japan moment.

This temple in Shibuya,Tokyo is one of the most important around . The emperor that commissioned this structure is considered to be the one that opened the doors to the west and for Japan. Before him no one could enter and no Japanese could leave. So my thanks to him for allowing that. Always make sure to bow as u enter and leave each entrance it’s a sign of respect . The same respect that we expect from them is the same respect we should give back. Don’t forget to grab gifts from there temple premises they 100% made and blessed by the temple itself. I bought one that has a prayer for the longevity and prosperity of my future business, Tip for avoiding most of the crowds. 1. Walk around Takeshita Street eat and spend money before you to the temple 2. Go past 2 pm the crowds are mostly gone by then. 3. If your driving don’t worry there is parking all over the city, my favorite place to park is by the monster go karts. 4. There is a variety of food everywhere u can’t miss

State park
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a former estate turned 144-acre park, was originally created as a recreational garden for the Imperial family. It is an Important Cultural Property and features three types of gardens: English, French, and Japanese. Throughout the year, the park hosts various events such as photography lessons, chrysanthemum flower exhibitions, and traditional Japanese art performances.
This garden is incredibly spacious and beautiful — perfect for picnics, hanging out with friends, or just relaxing. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, with plenty of spots to enjoy the scenery. I really appreciated how convenient it was too, with lots of vending machines available throughout. The highlight for me was the Starbucks inside the garden — not only is the coffee great, but the view from there is absolutely a must-try experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking to spend a peaceful and enjoyable time outdoors!

Visiting Shinjuku Gyoen Park was an absolute delight! Right in the heart of Tokyo, this park feels like a peaceful escape from the busy city. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with a perfect mix of traditional Japanese design, French elegance, and English landscapes, offering something unique at every turn. Walking through the park was incredibly relaxing – from the tranquil ponds and tea houses to the wide open lawns and colorful seasonal flowers. Each season brings its own charm, whether it’s the cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant autumn leaves, or the calm beauty of winter. The park is very clean, spacious, and easy to explore, making it ideal for a quiet stroll, a picnic, or just enjoying nature. It’s also a wonderful spot for photography, with so many breathtaking views. Shinjuku Gyoen is truly a hidden oasis in Tokyo – serene, beautiful, and inspiring. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city!

Wonderful, peaceful gardens to visit both for tourists and locals! The ponds, statuary, trees, and flowers make you feel you are in a faraway paradise. There is a convenient Information Center near the entrance, and many clean restrooms. Fees are very reasonable including 50% discount for Senior Citizens and disabilities and students. Beautiful backdrops for photo opportunities.

A beautiful and peaceful escape in the middle of Tokyo. Shinjuku Gyoen is incredibly clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The park has lovely Japanese gardens, open lawns, and a stunning greenhouse. Perfect for relaxing walks, picnics, and photography. I went during ___ (spring/autumn/etc.), and the scenery was breathtaking — especially the cherry blossoms! Very easy to access from Shinjuku-Gyoenmae Station. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy nature in the city.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is truly an oasis amid the bustle of Shinjuku. We visited on a lightly drizzling day and spent about an hour exploring the grounds. Although we managed to see most of the main areas in that time, we easily could have spent another hour or two strolling through the beautifully maintained landscapes. The gardens feature a variety of scenic areas, along with several pleasant cafés and refreshment spots, making it a relaxing place to pause and enjoy the surroundings. The facilities and amenities were exceptionally clean and well maintained, consistent with Japan’s high standards. Admission was 500 yen per adult, and the gardens are open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Overall, Shinjuku Gyoen offers a peaceful retreat from the city and is well worth a visit for anyone spending time in Tokyo.
Robert G — Google review
. Central, convenient oasis Located right in Tokyo (near Shinjuku Station / Shinjuku‑Gyoemmae Station), the garden offers a green escape from the busy city. 2. Three distinct garden styles in one • A traditional Japanese garden: ponds, wooden bridges, tea houses. • An English-landscape style: open lawns, cherry trees, relaxed walkways. • A formal French garden: symmetric flower beds, roses, more structured layout. The mixture gives variety — you don’t feel you’re stuck in “just a park”, but rather a curated, rich experience. 3. Strong seasonal appeal • Spring: Cherry blossoms (many varieties) make this one of Tokyo’s top hanami spots. • Autumn: Colourful foliage, maples etc. • All seasons: From winter snowscapes to the greenhouse of tropical plants inside. 4. Historical & cultural depth The garden was originally a feudal lord’s estate, then became an imperial garden in 1906, and later opened to the public. Thus, strolling here is not only aesthetic but offers a glimpse of Tokyo’s history. 5. Photogenic and relaxing atmosphere Many visitors remark on its calm, scenic vibe (despite being in a major city). “The peace this garden gives is astonishing.” Also, it recently ranked as one of the world’s most beautiful flower gardens. ⸻ 👀 Things to watch / potential downsides 1. Crowds, especially in peak seasons During cherry blossom season or nice weather weekends, it can get very busy. 2. Entrance fee & reservations There is an entry fee (e.g., adult ticket) — some visitors feel it’s slightly high for a “park”. On peak cherry-blossom weekends, a timed-entry reservation system is used. Tip: If you go during non-peak times, you’ll likely avoid the extra hassle. 3. Weather / season matters The look and feel depend a lot on season and weather. Rain or grey skies reduce the “wow” factor. Some reviews note this. 4. Rules / restrictions For example: No alcohol consumption inside the garden. Also, playgrounds and some activities are limited to preserve the ambiance. ⸻ 🎯 Best ways to visit / tips • Best time: • Spring (late March to early April) for cherry blossoms. • Autumn (November) for foliage. • Weekdays or early mornings for fewer crowds. • Getting there: From Shinjuku Station (southeast exit) about 10-minute walk. • How long to spend: If you wander slowly and take photos, 2-3 hours is comfortable. Faster tour could be 1-2 hours. “We spent about 2 hours… we weren’t done.” • What to bring: • A blanket for the lawn if you want to relax (alcohol not allowed). • A camera or phone with good battery — many photo spots. • Check the weather; dress in layers (spring may still be chilly). • Hidden/less crowded spots: Explore further away from the main entrances; the French formal or the wooded fringes often have fewer people. “Maybe the wooded areas toward the east … had the fewest people.” • Greenhouse visit: There is a sizable greenhouse with tropical/sub-tropical plants — good if the weather is poor outdoors. ⸻ 📝 My verdict If I were to sum it up: • For someone staying in Tokyo who wants a mix of nature + history + calm — this garden delivers. • It beats many typical “city parks” in terms of variety and design. • The only real downsides are timing (go when you can avoid the worst crowd) and recognising it’s not completely secluded (it’s central Tokyo).

Amazing place to visit and chill, especially in autumn when the weather is sub 20 degrees. Beautifully crafted landscaping and really appreciated the breeze and silence. Always wanted to see the pavilion featured in Garden of Words and it certainly didn't disappoint! Just note they're very strict on the closing time and will go around to chase people out so don't overstay your welcome!

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of Tokyo, Yoyogi Park is a sprawling urban oasis that spans an impressive 134 acres. This vibrant park features serene lakes, charming fountains, and lush forested areas adorned with mature trees, making it a perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Located just south of Shinjuku and near the iconic Yoyogi National Gymnasium, it's easily accessible for both locals and tourists alike.
A nice park to relax in or go for a jog. Most of the park is tree lined paths and bench areas though it has a few extra sections. There is a beautiful butterfly garden on the south side that I'd recommend. A herb / rose garden. A dog park. And a lake for viewing birds... Though they were hiding during our visit.
Bill R — Google review
Green, expansive, gorgeous. There are so many words that could describe Yoyogi Park but those are my top three. I loved the greenery, art, wildlife, and the First Flight Monument. Easy to get to, easy to navigate. Even though we walked around for a few hours, there was still more to see. Don’t miss it! Photography by Jason Taylor (Except for the pictures I took)

A newfound favorite park! 🌿 It’s very clean and well-maintained, making it such a pleasant place to explore. I visited in winter (January) and loved that it wasn’t crowded. Just be sure to dress warmly so you can fully enjoy walking around. There are food stalls around, but since Shibuya is within walking distance, you’ll have plenty of dining options nearby. Definitely a must-visit spot in Tokyo!
Bea S — Google review
Visiting at night was a highlight—open paths, soft lighting, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city noise. Practical win: there are plenty of bathrooms and vending machines throughout the park, which makes it easy to stay longer without planning. Perfect for an evening stroll, light snacks, and unwinding.

Beautiful gem found right around the corner from Harajuku station. Conveniently located & within walking distance of Takeishita street shopping area. I went on a Sunday and it was busy but not crowded. The park is filled with gorgeous big lush trees, giving off such a peaceful vibe. I loved seeing the shrine and all the gates. This is a great place to come if you're looking to get a break from the hustle and bustle, to relax or have a little lunch. At the Yoyogi park main stage you'll find alot of events happening. Filled with live performances to tons of food tents. Highly recommends to stop by and take it all in.
Yana — Google review
Beautiful and very lovely, at least today (26th October), with many food stalls and musicians playing. If you continue and walk more to the centre of the park, it’s much quieter (it was also the end of the day, so it might me more crowded on the morning or early afternoon). Too bad there’s a lot of construction going on (hence the 4 stars), as I was hoping to come here and relax, to escape from the Shibuya madness!…
André M — Google review
People say it's like Central Park in NYC. It is indeed a big and enjoyable park. But I don't know why I can't find the huge pond with a fontaine in the center of the park. I think it is under renovation because I saw a huge circular metal wall in the park. Other than that, it is really a nice place to chill, walk, and sit under the trees. It is serene and so green!

Observation deck
Shibuya Sky is a 360° open-air observation deck situated on the top of the Shibuya Scramble Square skyscraper, which is Tokyo's tallest building at 230 meters high. The observation deck consists of two floors: the sky gallery on the 45th floor and the sky stage on the 46th floor. The sky gallery is an enclosed area with cafes, bars, souvenir shops, and artistic video installations that showcase modern Shibuya.
We personally think that this is the best tower for great viewing experience over the city. We were in 2 towers before and this was definitely the best. Great view and a great experience. We were there in the morning. It was less crowded , I personally think that in the evening hours more people would come to visit. We couldn’t make in the evening because we were busy. Anyway, a great experience and highly recommended. If you have a disability card you and your companion will pay half of the price.

The BEST observatory deck in Tokyo!! Amazing views and great picture spots! I love that there is a lot of seating area on the roof and a HELIPORT! Definitely recommend to go during a sunny day for a great views! We initially booked during a rainy day during which the outdoors deck was closed. But when entering they offered us a full refund and reschedule, so we decided to reschedule. Amazing customer service and very friendly staff! Also recommend exploring the indoor part as well!
Vanessa D — Google review
Visiting Shibuya Sky was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The entire experience was absolutely beautiful — from the moment we entered the building to the breathtaking views at the top. We booked our tickets about one month in advance, which I highly recommend because time slots sell out quickly, especially around sunset. The observation deck offers a 360° panoramic view of Tokyo, and it honestly feels magical when the city starts to light up as the sun goes down. You can see famous landmarks like Tokyo Tower and even Mount Fuji on a clear day. The design of the rooftop space is very modern and open, with glass walls and comfortable sitting areas where you can relax and take in the view. The best time to go is definitely for the sunset — watching the city transform from daylight to a sea of sparkling lights was an unforgettable moment. The sky slowly turns golden and pink, and when the city lights come on, it feels like you’re looking at a living postcard. Everything was well-organised, clean, and peaceful despite the crowd. Staff were polite and helpful, and the elevator ride up was fast and smooth. There’s also a café and lounge area where you can grab a drink while waiting for your slot. If you’re visiting Tokyo, Shibuya Sky is a must-see — it perfectly captures the beauty and energy of the city from above. It’s worth every minute and every yen.

We went up at 3pm on a Thursday afternoon. There was a short wait but we essentially all got right in. Our family of five plus another couple. So the 7 of us enjoyed the afternoon up top for aprox 1.5hrs. There were line ups for specific picture shots up top, with a number of people over staying their time taking shots with a mounting line behind them. But to be expected at a busy attraction as this. There was some interesting art around the inside of the top floor that showed the history of the area and the construction of the building etc. Once we got up to the view, of course it was great and there were plenty of spots to both sit down or lay down to relax as the entire top helicopter pad that you are on is made of Astro-turf. There were some interesting mesh seating areas that were also comfortable. There was one tourist sleeping on one next to us who did not seem too impressed with the noise and excitement of kids around him 🙄 there is always one… However the views were amazing and we were lucky enough to get a clear day. The staff were all very accommodating and helpful as well. There was a rooftop bar/lounge area which looked great as the seating was much like a roped off VIP section at a nightclub, but with this view. However surprisingly there was no one in it… And the bar was not open… It would have been a very cool place to have a couple of beverages of course. All in all a great experience and perch above it all to watch from the top of the city, everything & everyone for miles below you…

We purchased our tickets on Klook and selected a time slot in advance, which was super convenient. The view from the top is absolutely amazing — you can see all of Tokyo! We came during the day on a weekday, and it wasn’t too crowded. I imagine the night view would be even more stunning if you come for a later time slot. Definitely worth a visit!
Lili X — Google review
We went during late morning, so unfortunately we didn’t get to see the beautiful nighttime city. Great for kids and families. There is a long line that stretched all the way outside the building so make sure you come early. They only allow a certain amount of people in an elevator so come early and make a reservation online. Lots of beautiful photo taking spots and a long lawn/turf to take photos. When you are coming back, there is a lot of restaurants like sushi and soup dumplings. Not an overflow of people since there’s many restaurants to choose from but there is still a line. I would recommend going in the night because there is a such a beautiful view!!!!!!! We went during summer vacation (July 2025) and it was very hot 🥵 VERY NICE PLACE TO TAKE PHOTOS THOUGH!!!!! I would recommend this over Tokyo sky tree/tower because there is more to see in my opinion. (Attached is what you can see from Shibuya sky and the turf)

Shibuya Sky is absolutely worth the visit! The view from the top is incredible — you get a full 360° panorama of Tokyo, and if you’re lucky, you can even see Mt. Fuji in the distance. The rooftop area feels modern and spacious, with great photo spots and a relaxed vibe. I recommend going around sunset to see the city lights come alive. It can get crowded, but everything is well organized and smooth. A must-see when in Tokyo!
Igor O — Google review
The observatory located in the 45th and 46th floors gives you an amazing opportunity for viewing the entire Shibuya area. Unfortunately for us the weather was very bad and it was even raining so the outside part was closed. It this happens to you the staff will offer you rebooking for another day free of charge. We went there anyway and didn’t regret anything. Definitely recommend booking in advance since the tickets will sell out pretty quickly.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Genki Sushi offers a unique dining experience that sushi lovers won't want to miss. This Japan-based chain features a fun conveyor belt system where diners can select from an array of freshly prepared sushi and maki rolls, all at wallet-friendly prices starting around 120 yen. The menu is user-friendly, available in multiple languages including English, Korean, and Chinese, making it accessible for international visitors.
We came here following a recommendation - it is brilliant. You order your food from a tablet, then a delicious sushi and other types of food come to you on a automated trolley. A fab experience. Really good value. A must! Top tip come just before or just after lunch or dinner - this place can get very popular :-)

Absolutely amazing sushi restaurant! All the sushi was freshly prepared and delicious. There is a time limit of 45 minutes as they are usually very busy however as you order using a tablet (in english) at your table and the food arrives on a conveyor belt there is not a very long wait for your food to arrive. A must try for anyone who likes sushi!!!

Interesting restaurant because there are always foreigners queue up outside! This is a chain Sushi train restaurant located in the middle of Shibuya. The price range is low, meaning you can try different kind of sushi with affordable price. They also provide some "foreigners friendly" food like chicken nuggets or chips! :) The sushi quality is fair, they are fresh! The ordering experience is very interesting too. You are given a tablet and you can make all your order from there. From drinks to sushi, or even your bill. The tablet comes with different languages (Chinese, English, Korean and Japanese). Once you ordered the food, they will be delivered by a little train on the rail in front of you. Dont forget to push the button to send it back! overall service is good in this price range!

Great, cheap and delicious. Gets really busy and you might have to wait. Everything is self service and at your seat. Chopsticks, cups, sauces, water and etc. All ordering is done by an iPad, which has english. You can order up to 3 dishes at a time. It comes very quickly via the sushi train. Has great options for non raw fish eaters, like udon, fried foods and more. Very good value for the quality.

Delicious sushi with affordable price, fast and great service. We put our name in waiting list since it was lunch time but only short waiting time. We ordered using the tablet provided in each table, then the food is delivered using the table lane. All items that we ordered are delicious. Free hot ocha on the table (through the water tab seen in the picture, they provide cup as well).

My sister/brother-in-law recommended this conveyor belt sushi spot, so my BF and I decided to check it out when we were in the area. We waited for about 10 minutes on a Thursday at around noon, before we were seated. It's not a typical conveyor belt sushi place where everything is pre-made and rotates around. Instead, it's made to order. You select the items you want on your own iPad, and within a few minutes, your items arrive on the conveyor belt in front of you. Kind of like a train. You can order as many times as you like, so it was nice to be able to easily add more items. It was definitely a unique, and fun experience. And with something like this, you wouldn't expect the food to be good, but it was. Of course, we had a few items that were kind of meh, but everything was great for the most part. On top of all that, it was a quick and inexpensive meal. We paid $38 for two people, which included A LOT of food (we were stuffed), and a beer + sake. I wish they had one in NYC! But then again, the quality would go down, and the prices would skyrocket. Tip - they accept credit card!

The food was just about average.. I feel the Genki Sushi branches in my own country Singapore serve better sushi than here after having tried it here. I didn't enjoy the cramped seating. The waitress put my group which had 3 of us into a space meant for 2 people by squeezing in an extra stool in between 2 seats so it was kind of a tighttttttt spot. And the individual soy sauce packets were smeared with previous diners leftover Soya sauce so... not nice!!!

This place is fantastic. Fish top notch and thick cut. Service outstanding . Get a cold bottle of sake for around 6 bucks...keep them coming please. Tablet ordering ..and the plates come on a high speed train. Gotta love it..five stars all the way

Gyoza no Fukuho is a popular gyoza franchise with multiple locations in Tokyo, including one near Shinjuku Gyoenmae Station. The restaurant offers affordable and delicious gyoza prepared using three different cooking methods: pan-fried, boiled, and deep-fried. Customers can enjoy these tasty dumplings with rice or as a snack with beer. The lunch special includes two orders of gyoza, rice, and seaweed soup at a reasonable price.
Warm place to dine in, the service was great and the gyoza was very nice at the end 4 person ate 72 gyoza with few other dishes and drinks. The price is affordable as well. The place was busy and need a bit of waiting before can go in but is worth the wait.

Total gyoza heaven, a skip and a hop away from the shinjuku gate of the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. A total treat! Gyozas are out of this world good and the rice bowls too! Kiddos loved the chicken rice bowl. Skip the side leek sauce but make sure to leave room for the black sesame ice cream: sooooooooo good!
Alejandro L — Google review
It's one of the best gyoza restaurants in Tokyo in terms of quality and price. Upon arrival, you have to sign up for a list and wait in line; it took us at most 20 minutes to get in. The staff and the quality of the gyozas were amazing and so tasty. We ordered three plates of gyozas with and without garlic, and rice with chicken and soft-boiled egg, and it cost 1,529 yen. I highly recommend it and give it 5 stars without a doubt.

This was a great little spot for dinner. The chef and waiter were super kind to us as we didn’t speak Japanese. We love Gyoza and were not disappointed. We highly recommend coming here for some yummy food and dumplings!
Kyle M — Google review
Reviews mentioning that the gyoza here are the best-tasting, inflated my expectations. The gyoza here are very good for the price, and the crispy texture of the pan-fried is very well executed. At this price point, they just can't add a lot of good quality meat, which is essential for a great tasting gyoza. Although, I liked the pan-fried better, the boiled are also very good. The relatively thin gyoza skin, held up well, adding a more delicate and elegant taste. Don't get me wrong, I can highly recommend this place for the cost performance and taste of the gyoza. Just, there are other better tasting gyoza, but of course at a higher price.

Great gyoza spot! The dumplings were super tasty – juicy inside and full of flavor. You can choose between deep-fried, pan-fried, or steamed, and all of them were really good. The portions were generous, the veggie options also very nice, and the sides complemented the gyoza perfectly. Casual atmosphere, fair prices, and quick, friendly service – definitely worth a visit if you’re into dumplings!

Sign the page and wait out the front. We went around 1pm and were seated and served quickly. It seems best suited to parties of 2-4 people, but if you were willing to wait for seats to free up I imagine they could seat more together. The staff were very kind and attentive. The food was affordable and tasted fantastic. What more can you ask for?

We had a great time there an it was best Gyoza we had during our trip to Japan. It is great that you have variation of cooked, fried and deep fried gyoza. Be sure to arrive early not to wait, especially on weekends.

Black Terrace is a charming and stylish restaurant that offers a unique dining experience for both humans and their furry friends. The retro-chic space features fine art, vintage decor, and plush sofas surrounded by decorative murals indoors, while the rooftop terrace provides a refreshing outdoor dining option. The menu boasts a wide selection of gourmet dishes as well as a dedicated menu for dogs. Guests can indulge in grilled steaks, European bistro dishes, and other delectable offerings from the diverse à la carte menu.
Excellent place for dinner. The inside is well decorated and spacious. One recommendation is not to seat everyone in the same area and next to each other if possible.

We enjoyed an intimate dinner at Black Terrace. We made a reservation for a weeknight for a group of 6 but it looked like they also had walk in availability. The restaurant interior was moody and unique. Almost felt like somewhere in Greece. The steak was excellent. The tuna tartare and risotto pasta dish were good but nothing special.
Elaine B — Google review
A beautifully appointed restaurant with delicious coursed meals and a diverse a la carte menu. I had the lamb and a caesar salad. Both were excellent. The caesar had large blue cheese chunks and an olive oil drizzle, which were interesting twists. They are also dog friendly and even have a dedicated dog menu.

🍽️ Great atmosphere, but food and drinks were just okay 🍸 The atmosphere and views here are definitely the highlight — perfect spot to hang out and enjoy the scenery. The food was alright, nothing bad but nothing memorable either. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have a proper craft cocktail menu or a full bar — the drinks felt like an afterthought. Worth a visit for the ambiance, but don’t go in expecting standout food or drinks.

Dumpling restaurant
In the vibrant neighborhood of Harajuku in Tokyo, amidst the eclectic fashion and bustling streets, lies a hidden gem known as Harajuku Gyozaro. This unassuming eatery is celebrated for serving some of the finest and reasonably priced dumplings in the city. Specializing in gyoza, or pan-fried dumplings, this intimate counter-serve offers a simple yet delightful menu featuring trays of six steamed or fried gyoza filled with either vegetable or chicken and vegetables.
At first glance, the cooking station didn’t inspire much confidence — it looked a bit grimy, with visible grease buildup. But we decided to give it a shot, and honestly, it was a great call. We tried every variety of gyoza on the menu and they were all delicious. The tofu with toppings was a standout. The prices are very fair too, so I’d definitely recommend checking this place out.
Przemek K — Google review
A very simple spot that delivers on both atmosphere and food. It fills up quickly, so get there early—otherwise you’ll be waiting a while to get in and even longer for your gyoza. The pan-fried gyoza are the best, especially the garlic ones. As for sides, the chicken soup is excellent, and the bean sprouts with minced meat are just as good.
Rob K — Google review
The special meat sauce on the tofu was life-changing. The owner came out and plucked me out of line because I was a solo diner in a sea of groups and it was an amazing lunch. I loved watching the chef make the gyoza. What a cool process!
Ashley D — Google review
Worth the wait! Regretted not waiting in line the last time I was in the area and made sure to come early this time!! Gyoza was super juicy. Went for the pan fried ones and really really good! Hoping to drop by again!

Great dumplings for a really good price. We didn’t have to wait long which helped a lot. If the line is long, I wouldn’t recommend waiting, there’s lots of other nice places around. But if it’s short, give it a try, you probably won’t find any better price/quality anywhere

Nice place away from the Main Street. The food is a blend of Chinese/Japanese noodles. Order thru QR code in English. Shrimp suimai and pork suimai are delicious. The ramen is Chinese based w a nice crunch texture. Very nice clear soap base w generous slices of pork chashu

We ordered two set meals, but only one was served. We waited for more than 15 minutes, and nothing came. When we followed up, the staff said we only ordered one set, even though we were billed for two. Only then did they serve the missing set. Our drinks also came very late and only after another follow-up. The customer service was poor, and the waiting time was unreasonable. The staff seemed more focused on attending to people outside than those already dining in. Would not recommend this place and definitely not coming back.
Jhonrey Q — Google review
Ordered the tofu and original gyoza w garlic & chives (6 pieces). The tofu came quick but the gyoza took approx. 15mins. Despite the long waiting time, the 1 of gyoza came as in the picture - broken skin. The rest was stuck together and had no way of taking apart without breaking skin - as in the video. Luckily, we were there only to get a snack. Service wise, the guy who took our order and served the gyoza was the same - rude. Not sure if its because we ordered lesser than the norm but that should be no excuse given there was no crowd. Waste of time and money.

Roppongi Hills is a bustling commercial complex in Minato City, featuring the iconic 238-meter Mori Tower and a wide array of amenities. This area is part of the Special Zone for Asian Headquarters initiative, aimed at attracting foreign companies with various incentives. The complex houses offices, restaurants, art museums, movie theaters, and TV stations.
I visited here during Christmas, and the illumination was absolutely beautiful — rows of lights stretching for kilometers. The event was lively and very crowded, but the festive atmosphere made it really enjoyable. The weather was also perfect at that time.

Such a pity that I discovered this place on my last day in Tokyo. Am really not a mall rat but i do like the way this place was made. While most shops were still closed when I explored this place on a Sunday morning, I am sure that Roppongi Hills not only offers shopping but culture as well. You would be able to fund a personal spot just to absorb how magnificent the city pf Tokyo is!

Roppongi is a great area. It’s probably where the people earning the most in Tokyo live, very high end apartments and a bit more space and less crowds. Mitsuoka mage brand new vintage cars, the red car is a Yaris remade, amazing craftsmanship and style. I want this car, it looks a bit like a jaguar. Great area and check out Teamlabs Borderless, incredible.

I visited the Mori Building for the Sou Fujimoto exhibition at the Mori Art Museum on the 53rd floor. It was incredible, and I highly recommend going before it closes on November 9, 2025. Attached are new projects on going and its description is at the bottom of each photo. You can google them. A visionary architect. Sou Fujimoto promotes community, connections via building architecture with essences of openness, amorphous and many many which are integrated with the nature.

We went here to see the illuminations for Christmas. They did not disappoint. The best photo with the illuminated Tokyo Tower has to be taken while crossing the street. The police were there to make sure everyone was safe.
Wendy F — Google review
The streets are decorated with lights, but it’s quite difficult to find a good angle where you can capture both the illumination and Tokyo Tower together — you basically have to stand in the middle of the road to get the shot. The light decorations themselves are fairly ordinary and not particularly impressive. A nice stroll if you’re already in the area, but not a must-see.
Cindee — Google review
Small selections of stores and restaurants in the building, maybe there’s more around the place. But there’s an observatory and cinema there as well as art gallery. The observatory was partially closed so you don’t get the nice 360 walk of city view. But there’s atmosphere at night was nice and serene, not too many visitors.

The Nezu Museum, situated in the upscale Aoyama district, houses an extensive private collection of pre-modern Japanese and East Asian art. The museum features a diverse range of items including Chinese bronzes, paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, and archaeological materials. It is located just a short walk from Omotesando Station in an area known for its architectural showcase streets and international boutiques.
Advance time-entry tickets were required for admission, unless you’re a member. The museum is situated in an upscale neighborhood, with high-end boutiques nearby. During my visit, the featured exhibit was Chinese Paintings and Medieval Japanese Ink-Wash Paintings—a beautifully curated display of exquisite works. There were also five smaller exhibits showcasing ancient relics. The collection was impressive, though modest in size. The museum’s architecture and grounds were a treat in themselves. I especially enjoyed the beautifully landscaped gardens. Insect repellent was thoughtfully provided at the garden entrance.
Teadrinker — Google review
A small-scale museum in the wealthy area in Tokyo (Omotesando). Architectural style of the main building is modern Japanese. The breath of exhibition is small which there are only dozens of exhibits in each room. The outdoor garden is beautiful and I consider it more exciting than the indoor exhibition.
Rally A — Google review
The place would be better to visit in autumn or spring. I went in mid-October, but it was very hot and humid. It gets quite crowded, so it’s best to avoid peak hours. The exhibition was not a wide range of items. The café also had a long queue, and the food selection could be more varied.
SY — Google review
The Nezu Museum in Tokyo’s Aoyama district is a serene cultural gem. While photography is not allowed inside the museum itself, the experience is unforgettable. Children enjoy free admission, making it a great family-friendly destination. The highlight is the breathtaking Japanese garden, a winding labyrinth of charming pathways, lush seasonal plants, and impressive stone statues/ sculptures. It’s the perfect place to slow down, explore, and feel immersed in Japan’s timeless beauty.

This was an incredible museum and garden - particularly the garden - such a nice way to spend some time in nature in the city. I would 100% go again. I arrived right at 10am when it opened and there was a bit of a line to get in but it went really fast (I didn’t pre-purchase tickets).

It’s a magical place. The exhibition is not big but fascinating and beautifully curated. The architecture is impressive, and the museum garden itself is a true work of art. You can buy your ticket in advance to ensure entry.

✅I visited on a weekday and there was no waiting time at all. ✅There was about a 20–30 minute wait to use the cafe and if you would like a window seat, you can let the staff know and they will put you on the waiting list for it. ✅ The adult admission fee is 1,400 yen. During my previous trip, I only had a chance to use the museum cafe and couldn’t explore the exhibitions due to my flight schedule. With that regret in mind, I returned to Tokyo to finally visit the museum. The unique atmosphere of the museum was truly impressive, and the inner garden was absolutely beautiful. I especially enjoyed the serene and refined ambiance of a Japanese summer, which made the experience unforgettable.

My favourite museum among the many I visited in Japan. If you appreciate style and craftsmanship the building will delight you. And the staff, while not English-speaking, making a huge effort via GoogleTranslate, to communicate and point out the highlights of the museum. We watched a fascinating roof tile making demo.

The National Art Center Tokyo is a large, modern venue in Roppongi that showcases temporary exhibitions of both Japanese and international art. The building's unique facade contrasts with the surrounding architecture, embodying Kisho Kurokawa's architectural concepts of natural materials and adaptability to surroundings. With its wavy glass exterior, the museum spans 14,000 square meters and hosts works from renowned artists without maintaining a permanent collection.
Beautiful art exhibits & amazing architecture. Well-maintained and organized art center. Sadly, the library was closed when I visited but I was still able to enjoy my time. Lots of seating, clean restrooms. The Art Exhibit during my visit was free. There are restaurants inside that are available, but quite expensive and limited options. Overall, this Art Center is a definite must-see!

The National Art Center, Tokyo is such a beautiful space — the architecture alone is worth the visit! We went for the Shinseisaku and Bulgari: Kaleidos — Colors, Cultures, and Crafts exhibitions, and both were incredible in their own ways. The Shinseisaku Exhibition had an amazing mix of contemporary Japanese art, each piece so expressive and full of life. The Bulgari: Kaleidos Exhibition, on the other hand, was pure elegance — stunning jewelry and timeless design everywhere you looked. Each exhibition has its own ticket, but it’s absolutely worth it for the experience and curation. We also stopped by the café featured in Kimi no Na wa, and it was just as beautiful as in the film — a calm, light-filled space floating in glass. The perfect spot to take a break and soak in the atmosphere. Everything was well organized, and the overall vibe was inspiring from start to finish. Definitely a must-visit in Tokyo, and I’d love to come back for future exhibitions!

This review is for a visit I made last year(2024/12/06). I was reflecting on my visit here after a visit to another modern art museum. I would say that I'm no fan of modern art, but I really enjoyed my visit here. First off, the building is gorgeous and marvellous—you can gaze for a long time at the wonderful curves and angles that this structure has. You can totally just hang out and have a coffee if viewing exhibits isn't your thing. The light from outside casts amazing shadows inside the museum, due to the glass and angles of the structure. As for the displays, I would say that they have been curated carefully. There is cohesion among the exhibits, at least for me. It wasn't a tangled mess like other modern art displays. There are also spaces where people can hold seminars, and I believe there is a library as well. I loved that the museum had a cafe where we had a great lunch. Did I mention that entrance is free? Most of the exhibits are free except for the special ones. We also had the chance to meet the artist of an amazing exhibit. This is a must visit if you are in the area.
Alvin D — Google review
Amazing museum in Tokyo. Various exhibits that each deserve their own full day of observation. Highly recommend breaking the day up between exhibits so you can fully absorb the art. I will definitely be visiting again!
Kevin C — Google review
The architecture of this art museum is absolutely stunning—both inside and out. Seeing it in person was a treat; the design alone makes the visit worthwhile. It’s elegant, modern, and beautifully laid out. When I went, I visited a jewelry-themed exhibition, and the pieces on display were breathtaking. If you have the chance, I highly recommend stopping by to see them while they’re on show—it’s definitely worth it. That said, one thing to note is that you pay per exhibition, not for the museum as a whole. So, for example, there’s one area for Japanese-style art (¥1,200), another for Western-style art (¥1,200), and then an upstairs section for sculptures (around ¥1,200–¥1,400). Each is ticketed separately. I do understand the logic behind this system, but I do wish there were an all-access ticket option—something like a single pass for everything at a slightly discounted total. It’s possible such an option exists, but if it does, it wasn’t clear when I purchased my ticket. As for the logistics, everything was smooth. The location was easy to reach from the station, the process for buying tickets was quick, and card payment was accepted. There wasn’t much of a wait, even during the day. Overall, I’d say this museum is absolutely worth visiting—especially if there’s a specific exhibition that catches your interest. The architecture alone is reason enough to stop by, and the curated exhibitions make it a rewarding experience.
Marissa W — Google review
It’s not essential to buy a ticket online as you can go in and buy ticket at any exhibition that you like. The architect inside itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere is great! I had some cake and tea at Salon de Thé ROND and it was delicious!! The coffee also appears in the movie “Your Name”. Highly recommend <33

We came here near closing hours so we just explored the building. In-house cafes were almost closed too, but riding the glass elevators was nice for the sweeping view of the whole place.

Dropped by the National Art Center today. The exhibitions on display were more on the beginner side—felt a bit like student works—but the building itself more than made up for it. The architecture is stunning, with a spacious, immersive atmosphere that’s worth experiencing on its own. I’m planning to come back to try their French restaurant next time—it sits at a high vantage point with views that pair perfectly with a good meal.

These illuminations are so so beautiful✨ The staffs told us not to stop, but most people tried to take pictures. I thought that illumination without being gazed is nonsense, so what the staffs required is weird. If you use a wide angle, you can take nice photos. However, there are too many people, so other people would appear in the photo, which is not good.

The food was so good, we had the the rolls with uni, the clams, the tempura, crab croquettes, everything was delicious . And the sake too. The staff is very nice. Price range for food, 2 drinks each, we paid about a total of 60 euros . Incredible.

We were seated in the open air rooftop dining area and enjoyed a cool breeze. Portable heat station was seen in the background. They were busy on the evening we were there and the servers tried their best to keep up with our food and drinks orders. We enjoyed everything that we had and I would like to dine there one more time before leaving Tokyo.

One of the nicest Sashimi experiences while in Tokyo. The food was delight to the senses, visually as well and taste wise. Would definitely go again.

This is a special place. You must have a reservation. The food is top notch. I highly recommend the Nogizaka Special over the Sashimi plate.

At Uoshin Nogizaka, my wife and I embarked on a delightful culinary journey. This izakaya restaurant offers a diverse menu filled with tantalizing options that left us spoiled for choice. From traditional sushi to inventive seafood dishes, each bite was a burst of flavor that delighted our palates. The service was top-notch, with attentive staff ensuring our dining experience was seamless from start to finish. The ambiance exuded warmth and charm, setting the stage for a memorable evening. Uoshin Nogizaka's dedication to quality is evident in every dish. Their commitment to sourcing the freshest fish shines through, resulting in a truly exceptional dining experience. Whether you're a seafood enthusiast or simply looking for a fantastic meal, Uoshin Nogizaka is a must-visit. Their passion for serving delicious fish is unparalleled, and their energetic staff are ready to welcome you with open arms. Don't miss out on the opportunity to indulge in their culinary delights – your taste buds will thank you!

This is the second time we visited. The service was bad. They started to ask us ordering 30 seconds after we sit down. They just keep coming back to push us order. When we actually was ready to order, the waiters aren't very patient. We were clear about our order, but got 5 unexpected items worth 5000yen plus out of the 6 dishes we ordered. It's a scam to us. We would never come back again!

Our Japanese speaking guide made reservation for us for 7:30pm. We arrived on time and the staff asked if we made reservation, eventhough the restaurant was about 70-80% full, rudely shook his heads side to side and told us several times the reservation was for 6:30. You can easily tell if locals are rude in Japan by their tone of voice and body gestures on top of “no 7:30!”, tap his monitor several times and kept repeating “6:30! 6:30!” If our guide made the mistake on the time of reservation, the restaurant would have called by 7:00. Whether If our guide or the restaurant made an error on the time of reservation, either tell us no seatings are available for 7:30 or treat us like walk ins will be acceptable. Absolutely no need for his rude tone of speech of “6:30 6:30 6:30’” When we were about to walk out; than he suddenly told other staff to offer us seats. If my son wasn’t that hungry, we would have left already, plus I want to stick around and see how this place will turn out. The food was decent, some were good, some so so. Atmosphere was typical izakaya. Waitress tried her best. If anyone gets greeted by this staff (could be manager, not sure) with Unprofessional attitude and lack of patience, I would recommend either asking him to repeat his response until he treats customers with common mutual curtesy and apologize before deciding to stay or turn down the seats. Btw, forget their English menu, minimal choices compare to Japanese menu, just use the photos from google.

If you are staying in the area then this restaurant is worth a try, if not, I wouldn’t travel to it as it’s ‘okay’ at best. With the options you have in Tokyo, you can most definitely find a better izakaya. I wasn’t happy that they have a different menu for foreigners. I wanted to try everything and only by chance, a local helped me order some extra dishes. They do have some nice dishes and they certainly make a good effort in preparing and serving them. The tuna bowl with genko bean is good, as is the tuna pulled high with crab meet and uni. Does taste more frozen than fresh tbh. The deep fried blowfish was tasteless. They ran out of some of the dishes I actually wanted but that’s life…..at least the beer was cold. Good place but not amazing.

Izakaya restaurant
Japanese regional restaurant
Warayakiya Roppongi is an izakaya restaurant in a less-seedy part of Roppongi, known for its straw-roasted cuisine and dramatic open kitchen. Diners can choose to sit outside on the deck or inside at the counter to watch their food being seared over burning straw. The restaurant specializes in Kochi cuisine, with dishes like flame-braised bonito and black Wagyu grilled over an open flame.
Long standing reliable izakaya style restaurant in Tokyo’s Roppongi area. Despite the clientele being mostly foreigners, the cooking and efficient service are genuinely Japanese. Here the star is the grill, fueled by straw bunches that provide extreme heat and flames over a short period of time. This creates a great charring and infuses a unique smoky flavour, especially to the Katsuo (Skipjack tuna), the most popular and best item in the menu. Dark and with eclectic music in the background creates a special atmosphere. Notice the 90 minute time limit to enjoy your food. Good selection of sake. Bottled and on tap beer also available. Better to book in advance or go early in the evening as it is always full.

A warm, welcoming place, and with great food. Discovered by chance the first evening of the holiday with my family in Japan, we returned the last night to leave a pleasant memory by eating again in this fantastic izakaya. Extremely Reccomended.

The recommended Bonito was great. The potatoes with anchovy mayo were amazing. We ordered almost everything, potatoes twice. The only thing I would light pass on would be the fries with the mascarpone.

Delicious food, all dishes were very thoughtfully presented both visually and with accompanying sauces and small salads. We tried whale meat here, absolute delicacy. The vibe was relaxed and climatic. Good spot!

Very good food. This was the first restaurant we went to in Japan on our trip. Staff were helpful and had a menu in English. We sat right next to the grill area. We ordered everything eel to try so they used the grill. It was cool to see and you can really taste how they cook it. Very cool experience and food was great.

Stopped by an izakaya specializing in intense fire-grilled proteins, and it did not disappoint. Each cut was grilled to perfection, with sides and garnishes prepared with surprising attention to detail. The menu is small, but every item is well thought out. Cozy atmosphere and great food—definitely worth a visit.

Our favourite Izakaya we visited in Tokyo. The food and sake were fantastic. We didn't have a bad dish or drink. The quail eggs are a must.

On October 24th my friends and I went to Warayakiya Roppongi to have a last dinner in Tokyo and say goodbye to our wonderful 22 days trip in Japan, little did we know it wouldn’t end as we expected. We ordered wagyu, fish, chicken, tempura, lamen, eel, cheese and it was all very good! The crew was very respectful and was putting a constant effort to understand us (like most of the places we visited in Japan) even though we didn’t speak any Japanese and made sure everything we ordered was ok. When we were almost finished, one of the waitresses came with her phone and read to our group a polite message in English saying the police was about to come but we didn’t need to worry because we were not concerned. We were shocked to find out a table had ordered wagyu (one of the most expensive meat in the world *known by being a fat meat*) and refused to pay for the dish because there was - dramatic pause - fat on it saying they knew what good meat was. Not only the 4 costumers had refused to pay but they called the police over the restaurant’s chef saying they were being tricked. We had ordered the same plate and there was nothing wrong with it (btw it is such a treat in Japan). When the police came the costumers said they were horrified neither the restaurante crew nor the police spoke English and were saying things like “it’s absurd they don’t speak English”. (???) So I am writing this review not only to say it IS a good restaurant, the crew is very professional, the chef is great, but also to say I cannot think of a most disrespectful way of treating people in their country you don’t speak the language and don’t understand the culture. After they left we talked to the restaurant’s crew and made sure they knew we enjoyed the food and not surprisingly all the other costumers that were at the restaurant (from Turkey, Switzerland, Brazil) gathered to say the same thing. We couldn’t believe what was happening. Peace ✌️ and be kind

Nestled in Daikanyama, Ivy Place is a designer cafe offering a delightful array of dishes such as buttermilk pancakes, pizza, and brunch cocktails. The serene ambiance sets it apart from the bustling city with its spacious indoors adorned with antique furniture and a warm decor, as well as an expansive outdoor terrace surrounded by Japanese zelkova trees. The menu features seasonal breakfast options including homemade granola, fruit bowls, and bamboo charcoal omelettes.
Cozy restaurant in Daikanyama! Came here for lunch with a group of 4 and a dog without reservation and we queued for 30 minutes for an outdoor seat. Food was amazing, highly recommend the fried calamari and their well known pancakes. Service was top notch and drinks were fantastic as well. Would highly recommend!

This place has great food and a fantastic atmosphere. The pork loin and swordfish were delicious. The soup of the day was a tomato cream with a nice zest. I also ordered a breakfast power shake to get my energy up since I hadn’t had breakfast yet. It’s a great place for a date. We didn’t have a reservation, took us less than 10 minutes for a table but was sat in the outdoor area with the see-through tent tarp.

The food is the absolute bomb! 5000yen for the deluxe lunch let, Salad, Pasta, Main and Desert with a coffee too! Each dish was excellent with, salad had loads of goodie, the pasta was great and the fish was amazingly done! By desert time I was stuffed! Be warned don’t fill up on the complementary bread and olive oil served at the beginning or You’ll be too full!

Great value for the set meal! Came in absolutely starving and left satisfied by an assortment of wonderful appetisers, mains and desserts. There was a ~20 minute wait to be seated but the food itself came out fairly quickly. Nice indoor and outdoor seating available and so many cute dogs around! Overall a good experience.

This is a great restaurant, especially if you’re looking for contemporary American cuisine. It’s a bit on the expensive side for Tokyo; however, highly recommended for vegetarians/vegans. They’ll do their best to accommodate dietary restrictions and food allergies. Service was top-notch.

This was in my list for quite some time. Place gets 5 star but only for ambience and location. Weekly lunch with tea/coffee and small bread is still better to go for than long unnecessary hype on weekend. The big plates are called big but as you see in pictures rather extremely moderate! Chicken and fish dishes for 2300-2500yen is rather too high for taste, quality and specially portion size! Ideally given everything they should have been priced around 1500-1600 yen hence you pay for sitting ambience than food quality! Very average if you are food lover.
Chandrika — Google review
Food was good especially as they tried to help my son with gluten free options. Thank you 🙏 the burger was good. I have chicken breast coated with bread crumbs which came with mashed potato and some green rocket and a few raw tomatoes. Only criticism is I would prefer steamed vegetables or grilled vegetables like carrots peppers etc. or grilled tomatoes rather then raw because raw tomatoes does not go with hot foods. This is the only criticism for the restaurant manager to improve for the future 👍

Department store
Shopping
Isetan Shinjuku is a renowned department store in Japan, tracing its origins back to 1886 when it started as a kimono shop. Today, it is celebrated for its diverse range of products, from luxury brands to casual wear. The flagship store in Shinjuku is considered the birthplace of fashion trends and offers an extensive selection of fashion items from top global brands, beauty products, and gourmet food.
Arguably the best depachika in Tokyo. Do yourself a favour; head straight to the basement food section and buy to your stomach’s content. Then take the elevator to the 7th floor and take the stairs to the rooftop garden and enjoy your meal. This was one of the most fun experiences I had in Tokyo. The garden is huge and popular, plenty of seats, there’s toilets and of course a dedicated smoking area. I wouldn’t say the food here is cheap but you do get what you pay for and the quality is unbelievably high. The sushi I had was generous in portion and they will happily heat up any hot foods for you.

Isetan Shinjuku is a Mecca for high end stores and in your face displays . Rare brands we don’t get to see everywhere are all available. Baccarat crystal, Christofle cutlery, Wedgwood crockery , the usual Gucci/Armani/Lv/Hermes. All in one store. Minor complaint: sometimes we need a place to sit so a few chairs for customers would t be so out of place . But this seems to be a Japan wide issue. Great store great ambiance though

The main branch “Shinjuku Isetan”, designated a historical landmark of Tokyo, is an old department store made up of several buildings, such as one mainly specializing in men’s items, and the Isetan Kaikan that mostly comprises restaurants and cafés. The main building is made of stone, and its retro exterior stands out amongst the modern buildings that line the Shinjuku area. The department store is particularly rich in fashion items, which are good quality and are enjoyed by a wide range of generations. The basement first floor of the underground level, known as Depachika, has a food market packed with delicious food, and is enjoyable even for browsing. The main building’s rooftop is a rooftop-garden, where seasonal flowers can be enjoyed.

Isetan – Tokyo During our 2024 trip to Japan, we made sure to visit Isetan, one of Tokyo’s most iconic department stores, located in the bustling Shinjuku district. Known for its elegance, variety, and attention to detail, Isetan offers a shopping experience that is as refined as it is diverse, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking both luxury and authentic Japanese culture. The store itself is a multi-level showcase of fashion, beauty, home goods, and specialty items. Each floor is thoughtfully curated, with a mix of top international brands and the very best of Japanese craftsmanship. Whether browsing for high-end apparel, artisanal accessories, or seasonal gifts, Isetan’s selection feels both comprehensive and exclusive. But perhaps the crown jewel of Isetan is its basement food hall—a place that is nothing short of a gastronomic wonderland. The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by a dazzling array of colors, aromas, and textures. Fresh sushi and sashimi counters offered pristine seafood prepared with precision; bakery stalls displayed an artful assortment of breads and pastries; confectioners presented delicate wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) that looked almost too beautiful to eat. We found the bento section particularly fascinating—rows of exquisitely prepared lunch boxes, each a perfect balance of flavor, presentation, and seasonality. For photographers, the food court is a dream come true: every display is meticulously arranged, and the interplay of vibrant ingredients and immaculate presentation offers endless inspiration. The service, as expected in Japan, was exceptional. Staff members were attentive, polite, and always ready to help navigate the vast selection or explain the story behind a product. Even with the hustle and bustle of the food court, the atmosphere remained welcoming and orderly. Isetan is more than a department store—it’s a cultural experience. From the top fashion floors to the culinary treasures underground, it encapsulates the essence of Tokyo’s blend of tradition and modernity. We enjoyed our 2023 & 2024 visit immensely and are considering a return in 2025. Isetan, along with its remarkable food court, will be featured in our upcoming Photolator Guide to Japan, highlighted as one of Tokyo’s top shopping and gourmet destinations for travelers and photographers alike. At the food court, you can find some pre packaged (for gifts) Fruits, even a 50$ Melon ! (see the short video)

Historic Walking Areas
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Omoide Yokocho, also known as Memory Lane Alley or Yakitori Alley, is a renowned landmark in Tokyo located just north of Shinjuku station. Once a black market area post-World War II, it has transformed into a bustling alleyway filled with tightly compressed restaurants offering cheap izakaya food and alcoholic drinks. The vibrant atmosphere attracts both locals and tourists seeking to savor its culinary offerings.
Omoide Yokocho, also known as "Memory Lane" or "Piss Alley" (don't worry; that name is no longer applicable), is a cross-section of narrow alleys, populated by multiple small bars, watering holes and restaurants (izakaya), insanely popular with both locals and foreigners, ALWAYS packed to the gills and stuffed with drinkers and diners from all over the world, to the point where the bodies begin to spill over into the street. It's one of the most fun and exciting places in all of Tokyo, which in itself is one of the most fun and exciting places in Japan/the world, so you know you are in for a good time here. Personally, I prefer the even grittier Golden Gai, a half mile or so away, but your mileage may vary. Omoide Yokocho is ostensibly (arguably) the more accessible, tourist-friendly of the two, but that is not always the case. Be aware; some bars have an otoshi (cover charge in the form of a small appetizer, that'll cost you a couple bucks), and others may be "cash only", "members only", or "Japanese only", depending on how deep into the weeds you delve; don't be offended, there's a good reason for the exclusivity. Whatever you do, when you come here: be brave; be polite; try something new. Do all of these things, and "Memory Lane" is sure to be a place you will never forget!

★★★★★ Omoide Yokocho, Shinjuku, Tokyo If you’re in Tokyo, go here. Tourist or not, this is the real thing. People call it a tourist trap. It’s not. You walk through narrow smoky alleys filled with tiny yakitori stalls. Each one has its own rhythm, its own smell, its own story. You sit shoulder to shoulder with strangers, surrounded by the sound of sizzling skewers and laughter. The chef who cooked for us was incredible. He kept pouring us shots of sake, making us taste different dishes from his grill — every single one was amazing. There was no menu, no prices, just trust. He cooked what he wanted, and we ate everything. We sat next to locals who didn’t speak English, and we didn’t speak Japanese. But we laughed, clinked glasses, and somehow understood each other. It was one of those moments that make travel special. If you ever find this place, and you see the chef from these photos, go there. He deserves every star. Come at night. Come hungry. Come thirsty. This is Tokyo at its best.

Its a cool street with cool looking places to hang out and drink or eat, but its so packed constantly and the bars/eateries are always so full that you cant really enjoy it properly. Still a good atmosphere though. Worth walking up once which will take about 2 minutes.
Michi S — Google review
What can I say. This alley has an enchanting charm about it. When you walk down it on any given night, it will be filled with patrons from all over the world enjoying great food, cold beer, and the sounds of laughter fill the air, along with the aroma of all of the restaurants working their magic. This place is just incredible. I loved every second of it. You don’t know “vibe” until you visit Omoide Yokocho.
Michael S — Google review
Really small alley. Literally holes in the wall with eateries right next to each other. Patrons eating and sitting elbow to elbow, obviously locals. We came here on a weekday around 10am. A few establishments were open. The food smelled realllyyyy good. If you are the adventurous type, dont mind eating what the locals do then this is worth seeing.

The memory lane is a crowded, tiny and narrow alley full of small bars and restaurants. It does not give privacy but seemed very cozy and fun. I did not try the food here but I did walk through the alley.

Shopping
Shibuya 109 is a well-known shopping mall near Shibuya Station, famous for its trendy Japanese pop fashion boutiques. The name 'Ichi-Maru-kyu' is a play on words related to the owning company Tokyu and numerically translates to 109 in Japanese. The contemporary fashion scene in Shibuya extends from Shibuya Station to Harajuku and Sendagaya.
Verily, ‘tis folly to feign wealth when thy purse be barren. Hadst thou but parted with two hundred coins, Thou might’st have escaped a fine most grievous and dear. Once did Shibuya stand proud, a haven for grown souls, But lo! Now doth it echo with the mirth of wayward youth. Yet mark me well, what mattereth most is the correction of course, The gentle steering of progress, lest we stray too far from grace. Yet mark thee well, Shibuya’s course may not forsake yon Tower of One-O-Nine, For therein dwelleth the spirit of present-day Ibuki, bold and unyielding. I do entreat thee: pay it a visit, and let thy soul be stirred.

This shopping center in Shibuya is full of local brands. It is right next to the Shibuya station, very easy to access from any part of the city. Most of the stores are for apparel, shoes, cosmetics and accessories, mostly selling women's goods. The stores have variety of themes like gothic, anime, summer vibes and few other types. There are 9 floors to explore. Each floor has about 10-15 shops, so they are not too large. It is mostly clean and organized. Prices are relatively cheaper compared to other big malls in Tokyo. When we were there, they had summer sale going on. Participating had discounts between 20%-80%. The staff in the shops are friendly, help with questions and fitting rooms. We spent close 40 minutes here, didn't find anything worth purchasing.

Shibuya 109 is one of Tokyo’s most iconic shopping landmarks! The building is packed with trendy fashion boutiques, accessories, and beauty stores, especially popular among young women and teens. Each floor has a different vibe, offering the latest Japanese street styles and unique local brands you won’t find anywhere else. The atmosphere is energetic and colorful, perfectly matching the spirit of Shibuya. It’s also a great place to discover up-and-coming designers and grab some stylish souvenirs. The location is super convenient—right by the famous Shibuya Crossing and Shibuya Station. Whether you’re into fashion, people-watching, or just soaking up Tokyo’s youthful culture, Shibuya 109 is a must-visit spot!

Sadly this store isnt what it used the be .i was extremely sad. What a shame. Not much gyaru anymore more like punk , lolita or very young style.Prices are outrageous for clothes that are low quality ( think polyester) you can find the same or very similar on shien / wish /temu and even amazon for way cheapper.its made inchina clothes not made in japan pay attention to the inside tags . Some go for 100$ 200$ for made in china .Nothing extraordinary. The store is clean. The bathroom however are OLD OUTDATED AND FILTHY .Just overpriced cheap quality clothes overall very underwarmed .also keep on mind that everything is " free size" which is an m medium US . They dont have any smaller sizes being an xs i couldnt purchase ANYTHING . Clothes in japan are HUGE now . Very disapointed . The stores are also endlessly changing and heavily depends on tourist spending money there as regular japanese often dont . 109 are the remains of what use to be a golden fashion era early 2000s . Its basically more of a landmark at this point.its been poorly maintain and store have a hard time surving longer than a month in there . Plenty of better stores elsewhere in tokyo . Also keep in mind that most shops DONT SPEAK ENGLISH which is quite shocking since their major spenders are tourists . The place is SMALL and narrow even with multiple floors and you go around each pretty quick. This isnt really tourist friendly . Yes store will give you tax free because they jack up the price knowingly so you are not saving anything its not a place for good deals if you are looking to get a bang for your buck this isnt it . Dont believe the over hype on tik tok and insta .also the food court downstairs ( train station level ) is constantly changing . Stores are mainly pop up . No one buy food there because prices once again are outrageoys and you find the same stuff anywhere in shibuya or lil further way cheapper .you are paying premium because its 109 its a huge rip off .the food is also very unipressive and some of it taste just plain bad . Everuthing is loaded with chemical colorants and sugar i don't recommend eating there . Trying to open a pop store there even nust a week prices are exhorbitive and abusive which is why 109 is always loosing stores and got plenty of empty spots or store endlessly changing.

The staff are generally friendly, better than the attitude of other touristy places in Tokyo. The help I received from Mr. Zhang at the Tax-Free counter elevated my whole experience. While I was waiting in line for my tax refund, I realized that I had lost my purse. I explained my situation to Mr. Zhang, and although it was not part of his job duties, he went out of his way to assist me. He kindly shared his experiences and offered several suggestions. He called the security officer and helped me write an inquiry in Japanese so I could report the incident at a nearby police station—he even looked up the address for me. Mr. Zhang showed an exceptional level of empathy and kindness. On top of that, he efficiently helped me complete my tax refund process.

Place to shop for fashions ! especially women's fashion, you can also find 地雷系(jirai-kei) fashions as well. You can find shoes and boots that boost height by 5-10cm on b1, it's a really nice store! The restaurant is at the upper floor, there are also 1 unisex fashion on the upper floor that sells a bit vkei-ish vibe.

City park
Setagaya Park is a recreational green space in the Setagaya neighborhood, known for its sports courts, fountain, play area, and mini-train ride for kids. The park also hosts the Setagaya Park Flea Market at least once a month, featuring around 150 vendors selling clothes, accessories, and jewelry. Located approximately 15 minutes from Sangenjaya, the park offers a sophisticated yet wild atmosphere.
An absolutely wonderful park for people of all ages. This special place feels like something from another world. There’s a lot for the kids to play on, and a great spot for picnics!

Really quaint part of the big city. Love the maneki nekos. Quiet environment and lovely people at the temple.

Always such a good time at the park! It's super clean and has so many places to sit and read. Highly recommend on a good weather day.
Hunter S — Google review
Nice park with plenty of greens and facilities for children. There is a small “traffic part” with mini roads, cross walks and traffics light for kids to learn traffic rules. Mini station and train at north part of the park is also very cute. There is a small swimming pool according to the map, I didn’t go there though. Over all a very family oriented park.
Uhaan — Google review
Everyday I went there it’s a beautiful park with a fountain, pool, minature train to ride and play areas for children. It's kept clean by a team of local volunteers and is extremely safe for families. I went in November when the weather was great then the park was beautiful.
Raj S — Google review
This is not close to any station. It's almost in middle of sangenjaya and ikejri ohashi station. But the park is pretty big and has many things to do including kids train, a fountain at centre with playground around it. A small hiking Hill. Etc. Many things to do for kids in a kids area which allows for burning fire cutting, wood, etc. to get hands-on experience for the kids. A must go if you're around and have kids. But even otherwise, it's a good place to hang out.

A beautiful park with a fountain, pool, minature train to ride and play areas for children. It's kept clean by a team of local volunteers and is extremely safe for families. We went in October when the weather wasn't great but even then the park was beautiful. I'd recommend trying to go in summer with children so that they can play in the pool.

I was so surprised when I found that place on google maps and then I talked with myself, you must go there and finally, I have done there. This small but paradise park is perfect for romantic dates, family time, sunset, sunrise, or whatever you want to do there because at Setagaya park you are going to feel a lot of the best sensations in your brain and body if you love nature and places like that. I recommend you to go there.

Chinese restaurant
Shibuya Gyoza, located at Shinjuku West Entrance in Nishishinjuku, is a Chinese restaurant renowned for its thin-skinned gyozas. The menu offers various set options starting at 290 yen, and if you opt for just the gyozas, it will cost less than 6 euros. The attentive waitstaff ensures immediate seating.
Easy QR code menu in English to order, drinks came quickly, food not long after. Food was excellent, gyoza were fantastic as you’d expect but the highlight was the spicy soup dumplings. Very tasty and slightly spicy - not for chilli heads but good for most. Highly recommend.
Sam A — Google review
Shibuya Gyoza is a must-visit if you’re craving dumplings in Tokyo. The gyoza were perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside—absolutely addictive. I also tried the spicy soup, which was rich and full of depth. The atmosphere is casual and lively, with fast, friendly service and cold drinks to match. Great value and even better flavor. Definitely a top spot for gyoza lovers in Shibuya.
CSM — Google review
I really enjoyed every aspect of this place. Positive and friendly customer service from the very beginning. Ordering via QR code on the phone makes it super convenient. I would highly recommend the Wasabeef Gyoza paired with a side of Potato Salad with Tobiko. The Shiso Gyoza dish was too salty in my opinion. For me, one dish of gyoza was already filling. Having two was satisfying. I’d come here again.
Jane D — Google review
To start off, the gyoza is amazing! They also have great toppings and it’s good prices for the amount. I would check them out for that reason! ♥️ Staff were pretty mean and inconsiderate. We were brought to our table by the guy with the great wolf hair cut. He didn’t leave us with a QR code or the menu with the requests. (We understand we are American and coming to Japan. We feel bad for the language barrier hence why we practiced and learned key terms before coming and why we ALWAYS are as kind and considerate as possible. We want to respect everyone for letting us have the opportunity to explore their country.) The guy was not kind at all and seemed annoyed by us since we walked in the door. He was rude and short with us. We checked the time right when we sat down and it was still a couple hours before they closed based off their hours on their site for Sunday. Then a table of 4 came right after us. He gave them their drinks first, small plates to eat off of, the QR code to look at the menu in English, the paper with the requests on how much to spend (you have to buy a drink per person, etc.) and served them first. We sat around waiting for a QR code till we got the attention of a different staff member. He was kind to us at first, but throughout dinner we saw them laughing at us and talking about us while looking at us. On top of that they never gave us small plates like they did every other table and I ended up eating off of a napkin which they both saw several times and did nothing about, but I did not ask for a plate either as I was too scared to upset them both more. We were not the only foreigners so we panicked about what we did wrong and talked about everything step by step for what we could have done and to apologize. Then at the end of our meal, before we finished the last gyoza or our drinks he asked us to: “pay quickly.” My boyfriend kept saying thank you very much over and over again in Japanese and tried to hurry and finish his drink and I tried to eat a VERY hot gyoza as fast as I could. It very much seemed like we were being kicked out. He let the other two foreigner groups stay, but not us. My boyfriend said thank you very much again and the guy walked away and ignored him. It was honestly a very terrible experience customer service wise and the only one we have had here since our trip.

I went around 5PM and got seated at a counter immediately. The staff is nice and accommodating, it took maybe about 10 minutes for the food to come out which is okay because it’s very delicious!! They have a one drink per person rule so keep in mind before going!! You get a QR Code so it’s easy to order. I liked it and want to come again!! ☺️
Bqhrlol — Google review
Delicious gyoza place, where you can get huge portions of gyozas to share with friends for a cheap price. The location decent and the only downside is that by being located in Shibuya, is always full of people. Therefore, a booking might be necessary, unless you don’t want to wait to be seated.
Syria P — Google review
Amaaaazing gyoza, tender chicken and they have the OG mochi ice cream for dessert! Loved the atmosphere, even though it’s a small place. Always crowded, so do make reservations to avoid waiting. Usually faster though, if you’re alone. convenient to order through QR codes but I’ve often experienced some delay in being served, thought it was always worth the wait!

Bar
Shinjuku Golden Gai is a lively and popular district in Tokyo, known for its narrow and winding alleys filled with cozy taverns. This hidden gem offers a nostalgic atmosphere, reminiscent of Japan's post-war era, where small bars that can only accommodate a few patrons at a time provide an intimate setting for drinks with friends. While the area has gained popularity among international visitors, it still retains its local charm and may have some establishments with 'Locals Only' signs.
It’s a very atmospheric and enjoyable place to have a few drinks and chat with others. There are many bars — some great, some not so much — so it’s worth exploring a bit to find the right spot. Even if you don’t plan to go inside anywhere, it’s still worth visiting and walking around to soak in the vibe. Definitely a nighttime activity.
Tamas K — Google review
Plan to visit to experience the Golden Gai ? If you are a fan of tight spaces and pocket size bars, this is the place for you. Some bars even have a no-cover charge welcome signs to attract customers. There's a bar for everyone - American style, Asian style, Hard Rock Metal Heads, Laid back style, etc. etc. Walkable distance from Shinjuku Metro Station, this area is a part of the Tokyo night life. Pretty safe area this.

Better than Kabukicho Main Street! Amazing place with little Japanese bars. Plenty of bars with no charges or little charges(¥500-600) with drinks priced starting ¥800. Some of them have Karaoke, music while few are members only. Small alley with good vibes.
Rohit B — Google review
We loved golden gai ans came back a few times during our stay in Tokyo! Such a cool area and there are apparently over 300 different bars. A lot have a cover charge or take cash only so make sure to check !
Becca M — Google review
Really cool looking alleys with bars in them. For some reason it didnt feel like the friendliest place though, which felt unusual for my experience of Japan so far. Still some great photo opportunities at night time. Didn't go into a bar because im an introvert and it felt like I would have to speak to strangers as they so small. Would recommend a walk around here though. Was better than Omoide Yokocho.
Michi S — Google review
This area has a ton of bars to choose from, and it’s definitely worth exploring if you’re looking for a fun night out. That said, most of these bars are very small—some can only fit a handful of people—so if it’s just you and one other person, you’ll be fine. But if your group is around four or more, it can get tricky to find space. I would avoid visiting on Friday or Saturday, as it gets absolutely packed. It’s much better to come during the weeknights, or even on a Sunday if you want a bit of a crowd but still room to breathe. The best time to come is around 19:00–20:00 (7–8 p.m.), since that’s when most of the bars are open and starting to get lively. Be aware that many of these places have cover charges—usually between ¥500–¥1,000—which they either add to your bill or require before you order. Some bars are members-only, so if you see that sign, just move along to the next one. Others advertise no cover charge, but their drink prices tend to start a bit higher, around ¥1,000 per drink. For payment, I recommend bringing cash, since while some bars do take cards, quite a few are cash-only or simply prefer it. Overall, this is a great place to meet new people, especially tourists and expats, which is the main crowd here. I’ve been to this area many times over the months and have always had a good experience—never any issues, just good vibes and fun nights. If you’re visiting the city, this is definitely a nightlife spot to check out.
Marissa W — Google review
What looks like dirty, dangerous alleyways are actually quite clean and welcoming. There is a bar for all types of people. Only problem is that when it gets busy you can't get a drink 🤣. Too many people at peak hours. Enjoy
Mark B — Google review
This is such a unique and cool place. Bar hopping is really fun here not only bc of the variety and number of places, but each one is super intimate (seating between 5-10 ppl). And because this is a tourist hot spot, the small alleys and bars are a fun way to connect with people from all over. Knowing some Japanese helps here more than other places because proprietors tend to speak Japanese only. Many bars are cash-only and maybe half require a seating fee ranging from 500-1,000 Yen. There is a Family Mart nearby if you need to pickup some cash. A few offer food as well as drinks, and some specialize in whiskey/spirits versus beer. I've been told that the ones on the first floor are more expensive, which kinda makes sense since they're more convenient to walk into as opposed to ones on the second floor where you have to climb treacherous stairs.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Sushiro is a popular conveyor belt sushi chain in Japan, with numerous locations including 36 stores in Tokyo alone. The restaurant offers a playful and affordable dining experience, with plates starting at just 100 yen. In addition to typical seafood options, Sushiro also serves udon, ramen, fries, and a variety of desserts like parfait, ice cream, and cake. It's known for its bustling and kid-friendly atmosphere that delivers the quintessential kaitenzushi experience.
A Delicious Journey Through the Stars at Sushiro I dropped by Sushiro to check out their Honkai: Star Rail collaboration, and I was pleasantly surprised — both by the fanservice and the food. As a Honkai fan, the themed touches were fun and well-integrated, from character decor to collectible merch, but the real highlight for me was the unagi sushi. Rich, tender, and perfectly glazed with that sweet-savory sauce, the unagi was a standout. It had just the right balance of smokiness and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Paired with the vinegared rice, each bite was satisfying and well-executed — classic, but elevated. Even among all the creative and limited-edition offerings, the unagi sushi held its own as a comforting go-to. The collab itself brought an extra layer of excitement — especially if you’re into both good food and good games. It’s not every day your meal comes with a side of fandom. Would I go again? Absolutely. For the unagi and the nostalgia alike.

Was a fun sushi place and revolving belt except only made to order items and nothing to pick from the revolving belt. Raw fish were pretty fresh but color of some salmon(cheap plates) were questionable. Decent selection of sushi and noodles.

The Sushiro was amazing! You can really tell that they use fresh ingredients and make it fresh right when you order. Compared to Kura this was 50000 times better. They also have make your own sushi for kids and it comes with a toy. You should try it!!!!

A convenient walk from Shinjuku station, Sushiro in Japan is a quintessential visit. Although there isn't much sushi on the conveyor belt, you can order everything through their iPad. Ingredients were fresh while being affordable.
Jol F — Google review
So much fun! One of our favorite meals in Tokyo. The food was delicious and the conveyer belt style service was so fun. We made a reservation ahead of time and even though it was packed we got in pretty quickly. Probably only waited 15-20 minutes. The restaurant is easily accessible next to shinjuku station. Paying per dish is also super convenient!
Tyler H — Google review
Sushi was so absolutely mediocre. Rice was mushy, fishes do not taste fresh and the price does not reflect the quality. Not to say it's expensive but it's just that mediocre. You can do better if you really want the conveyor belt experience although it'll be much more pricier.
Danny L — Google review
Great selection of sushi, very fresh and affordable :)) Their platters are super nice but unfortunately don’t come on the conveyor belt. The udon soup is also great! There is just quite a long wait for a table in the evening, definitely over 30 minutes.
Vanessa D — Google review
The sushi is fresh, well-presented, and constantly rotating on the conveyor, with the option to order anything you like from the touchscreen for direct delivery to your table. Prices are very reasonable, making it a perfect spot for a quick meal between visits, shopping, or photography outings in the neighborhood. Service is efficient, the staff are polite, and even during busy hours the system keeps everything moving. It’s casual, modern, and perfect for solo diners, couples, or families. If you're in Shinjuku and want good sushi without overthinking it, Sushiro delivers exactly what you expect: tasty plates, fast service, and excellent value. A solid, dependable choice every time.

Sizzler Sakurashinmachi is an excellent establishment that offers a vast and diverse salad bar, featuring a wide range of options such as calamari, steak, salmon, and BBQ ribs. Many patrons are drawn to the salad bar and frequent it multiple times due to its simplicity and variety. The restaurant also provides additional offerings like pasta, soup, desserts, soft ice cream, coffee, and a drink bar.
All-you-can-eat salad bar with a wide variety of fresh vegetables and deli salads. Not only salads, but also curry, tacos, desserts, etc. are available. You can enjoy it with your family. There are also meat and fish platters, but you will be satisfied with just the salad bar. I recommend the hot cheese toast! Lamb chops are also delicious!

HELL GODDAMN NO!!! This food was TERRIBLE and probably the WORST I've ever eaten in Japan! No flavor in the guacamole, no flavor in the pasta, dessert, Bread pudding was the worst i ever had! Dry, no flavor & no reason to eat it. The tortilla chips were STALE n not crispy. I'm not sure who the chef is, but they need to go back to school. I will never visit this place again. A total waste of 13,000 yen.

A bit pricey but food and vegetables taste good and fresh. Nice place for family. It’s around 3.000 yen/ adult for salad bar (salad, tacos, soup, curry rice, drink bar, some deserts. Around 1000 yen/kid. Beefsteak itself, grilled chicken is quite juicy and tender. But if you order some grilled dished (from 4500 and above) then salad bar is free. Every time I come, the queue is quite long, so make sure you book a table in advance.

The Ghibli Museum is a delightful haven for fans of animation and art, located just a short stroll from Mitaka Station. This enchanting space pays tribute to the beloved Studio Ghibli, creators of iconic films like Totoro and Spirited Away. Visitors can immerse themselves in original artwork, enjoy exclusive animated shorts in the cozy cinema, and wander through the rooftop garden featuring the impressive Robot Soldier from Laputa Castle in the Sky.
What a lovely place to visit for Ghibli fans. There's so much history and behind the scenes of original artwork and makings of various movies. Tickets are quite challenging to come by so don't expect to just show up the day of and expect to get in as you need to book well in advance! Be respectful and do not take pictures on the inside, only outside. For those tight on time, you can do the entire museum, with short movie feature, and shopping in about 1.5 hours. Definitely worth the trip and knocked off my bucket list.
C T — Google review
This place is magical! Every detail has been considered to make the Ghibli Museum fun for both kids and adults. Don't miss the screening for a short film that can only be watched at the museum. Photography is not allowed inside the building but outside is ok. Tickets must be purchased in advance for entry.
Dennis T — Google review
The Ghibli Museum was the highlight of my 2-week trip to Japan!! I cannot describe adequately what a fulfilling experience this was. Ticket reservations are required and getting tickets internationally is honestly based on luck when entering the queue at time of them opening. Seems like they split the population of tickets in half between international vs domestic, so if you have a friend/family who lives in Japan and have a Japanese address/phone #, you will have much better luck getting tickets due to availability. As for the museum itself, there are plenty of reviews and videos regarding the exhibitions and highlights. It made me appreciate the Studio Ghibli films even more and how much effort goes into the making of a film due to volume of frames, laying out storyboards, etc. Photos inside the exhibits are prohibited which I also think allows visitors to just be more immersed in the content and visuals that Miyazaki himself had a hand in designing. If you get a chance to go to Ghibli Museum—prioritize this among all the other places and things to do in Japan. Even my husband, who has only seen a couple films so not a full SG “enthusiast”, had a great time at this museum and thought the exhibits were fascinating :)
Michelle K — Google review
Loved this place! It really feels like stepping into a Ghibli movie with colorful hallways, spiral stairs, stained glass, and so many tiny details everywhere. The exhibits show how the films are made with sketches and storyboards, and there’s a monthly rotating short film you can only watch here, which makes it extra special. The gift shop has lots of exclusive items like postcards, figures, plushies, and ceramics, it’s definitely worth browsing. I also stopped by the cafe and got a chocolate cake and black tea; the cake was moist, fluffy, and not too sweet. You need to buy tickets in advance (they sell out quickly and aren’t sold at the door), and you can only take photos outside. The rooftop garden with the Castle in the Sky robot is such a lovely space.

Finally got the chance to visited the Ghibli Museum with my friend. We went there as the weather was cloudy and end up raining cat and dog. As someone who enjoys Ghibli films this is one of the bucketlist that must visit. it’s a wonderful place to explore. You can queue to enjoy the exclusive short films screen monthly, artwork, drawings, a short animation, gift shop and the atmosphere was wonderful. When you enter the museum be mindful because photos and videos are strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s a nice good experience and worth to visit especially if you are a Ghibli fan. The ticket are cheap but you have to make a reservation book a ticket a month before.

I enjoyed this museum very much! An indoor museum that focuses on the history and animation of Studio Ghibli. You can immerse yourself into Hayao Miyazaki’s work and explore some of the intricate details found in this museum. A lovely place to relax and get lost into the world of Ghibli! Try to visit on a weekday and first slot in the AM ^_^
The A — Google review
We visited the museum in the morning slot, and the arrival felt quite charming, even though the neighborhood we walked through beforehand was a bit less clean than expected. The museum itself is surrounded by a pleasant environment and has a cozy atmosphere. Inside, the building feels a bit dated, but the exhibitions were interesting and offered a glimpse into the world of Studio Ghibli. Some areas were mildly interactive, though I felt the museum could benefit from more engaging, hands-on elements – especially considering the theme. The space itself is smaller than I imagined and could definitely be expanded to create a richer experience. A practical note: all descriptions inside were only in Japanese, so non-Japanese speakers might miss some context, and photography or phone use is strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s clearly designed with children in mind. If you’re visiting Tokyo as a group of adults, I would not consider it a must-see, as there are many other attractions in the city that may be more rewarding. Still, it was a unique and memorable experience for any fan of Ghibli.
Nikolas K — Google review
After 10 years of living in Japan, I finally visited the Ghibli Museum with my friends. We went towards the end of the day, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect given all the hype and praise it receives. As someone who enjoys Ghibli films but isn’t a die-hard fan, I found the experience pleasant but not mind-blowing. The museum is fascinating, especially for those interested in the mechanics of animation; it’s a wonderful place for kids to explore and learn. However, the overall space is smaller than I anticipated. The exclusive short films they screen monthly are fun and creative, but keep in mind there’s no English subtitles, which might be challenging if you don’t understand Japanese. One thing to note, even though photos and videos are strictly prohibited inside the museum, some visitors still break the rules, which can be quite annoying and distracting from the experience. On a positive note, I have to say their bathrooms are surprisingly exquisite and impressive, definitely worth a mention! Overall, it’s a good visit, especially if you’re a fan of Miyazaki’s work or curious about the animation process. Just keep your expectations in check. For a 1,000 yen ticket, it’s definitely worth seeing at least once.

Inokashira Park, a 95-acre city park established in 1917, offers a serene escape with its picturesque pond, boating facilities, and scenic trails. The park is renowned for its cherry blossoms, attracting crowds to admire the majestic weeping cherry blossom tree at Rikugien Garden. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely date with attractions like swan boats, temples to explore, and opportunities for picnics.
Lovely park, an oasis of tranquility in the midst of a bustling city. We were surprised by how calm and large it is. Beautifully laid out, spotless and numerous activities. The park also contains a small zoo. The lake adds to the overall serenity. You can rent a pedalo, or a rowing boat, to admire the scenery from the water. The train station is very close to an entrance, and the park is free of charge. Afterwards cross the station to find yourself in covered shopping streets. Plenty of shops and restaurants around, including in the train station.

Such a beautiful, tranquil park with a lake in the middle. You can even hire out different boats for half an hour from a dock (row boats, Swan pedal boats) to take across the lake. I took a pedal boats with a friend. This was such a great and fun experience. There are also a few shrines around the park, and a few streets with eateries and shops to look around if you get bored. There's also a playground for little kids. The greenery is also spectacular, especially against the backdrop of the lake. I went during June but the park was still very lush. Highly recommend this spot as a nice break from the busy Tokyo city.

Around 1 hour by train from Ginza to Kichijoji, you can visit this beautiful vast park. There are a lot of things you can see and do here. They have a lot of different areas, from the lakes to the playground and baseball fields. Great for picnic! There is also the Ghibli Museum here. Make sure to book your ticket in advanced as they do not receive walk-in entry (April 2025 visit).

Hanegi Park, located in Setagaya south of Meidaimae, is a celebrated park offering various sports facilities, open green spaces, and annual plum blossoms. The park features playgrounds with unique wooden structures and a concrete maze where children can play freely and let their imagination run wild. It's a popular spot during the plum blossom season when 600 Japanese Plum Trees bloom in February.
If you visit japan in February, you're in luck because the cherry blossom's sister is in bloom. February is the Plum Blossom season and I believe that this park is one of the best spot to enjoy the Plum Blossom in Tokyo. It has a lot of trees and from several different varieties. If you're in luck, they usually held a Plum Blossom festival during February to March. There is no entrance fee to the park, just be sure to behave and don't do anything that will ruin the plans and/or disturb other visitor. If you're tired from your trip, there are a lot of bench to sit while enjoying the scenery. It's easy to get here, just stop at Umegaoka Station, and the park is just steps away.

Parque Hanegi, in Setagaya, Tokyo, is a peaceful urban oasis known for its 650+ plum trees that bloom from late January to early March, creating a colorful and fragrant spectacle. The park features tennis courts, baseball fields, and playgrounds, making it popular with families and locals. Free and open 24/7, it’s easily accessible from Umegaoka Station. Ideal for enjoying nature, sports, and seasonal beauty in the city.

Underrated park with beautiful plum blossom festival! This park is so peaceful and quiet and a quick walk to Shimo-Kitazawa. Lots of beautiful plum trees and even a spot where you can see Mt Fiji!

Hanegi park is a place that I usually visit each year during the plum blossom season. There is a wide variety of types (and colors) of blooms. The area around the park is also nice. The nearby Fuglen is some of our favorite spots to get coffee. There are also several train stations nearby, so it’s easy to get around as well.

Awesome party for Hanami or plum viewing! It’s a pretty big park and very clean. There are also people walking dogs around the park for all those dog lovers. There’s a family zone with a childrens play area and also an ice cream stand making this location perfect for family day outs too. Cafe near by also!

A big park with many sections for kids, elders, picnickers, joggers, runners, hikers, sports players and for anyone interested in fruit trees such as plum & apricot. All fruit/flower trees are properly tagged with their names and types. Kids have many activity sections. Walking and running tracks. A lot of benches and tables to sit and eat. It's a hilly location offering tracks going up and down. Multiple sets of toilets and vending machines inside the park too.

Sushi restaurant
Sushi no Midori Umegaoka is a popular budget-friendly all-you-can-eat sushi spot in Tokyo, known for its fresh red sushi sourced from Toyosu Market. Visitors can watch the skilled sushi masters at work while enjoying their meal. For a healthy morning option, travelers can head to Midori no Kitchen near Ueno station for a Japanese breakfast featuring items like salmon teishoku and rice with raw egg, with calorie information provided on the menu.
SO grateful my friend recommended this place. It is famous amongst local people in Tokyo. If you’re looking for a good quality sushi with a real sushi chef, this place is for you. Everything was perfect. You need to line up a bit though, I got there at noon and I probably waited 45 minutes. But it was worth the wait! Each piece of sushi was heavenly, the freshness of the fish was amazing, the chef was very talkative and attentive to details (he saw that I was left handed and changed the position of the sushi for better grip), even the green tea was good. I will let the pictures speak.

I’ve been in and out of Japan for 20 years and always trying different sushi restaurants. This is the best sushi I have ever eaten. The service was standard Japanese service - which is very good. However, if you don’t speak Japanese then this place may be a little difficult. The atmosphere was also extremely good. I was sitting at a table very close to the sushi chefs, and I recommend sitting at the counter or at a table close to the counter so you can see the chefs - this really added to my experience and the atmosphere. One final note, I highly recommend booking. If you don’t have a reservation you probably won’t be able to eat there.

I wanted to come here for the longest time. We finally got to come and eat inside. Every-time we came there was a long line of people and we didn’t want to wait so we always did take out. I am glad we did eat in. Makizushi was humongous, it is big enough to share with several people. Tuna is so fresh delicious, so is other sashimi. We throughly enjoyed their sushi!
Kanae M — Google review
The sushi is HUGE! We come here with hungry kids and a whole family, bigger parties always get put on the third floor which is great because it's quiet, easy bathroom access and big tables. Such a good deal for the price too!
Kristi — Google review
Been coming here for nearly 15 years, I’d my wife since she was a kid. It’s a great sushi shop that sits between kaiten and proper counter sushi. Prices represent this, with being exceptional for the price. Sadly it is now a shadow of its former self, and whilst I’ll continue to visit, the original shop is not what it once was.
Brit J — Google review
Well, if you're looking for a traditional creative sushi. Here is the place for you. The sushi was made crafty by a sushi chef who can create a delicious sushi in different types of menu. Must try!

Generally decent sushi but I do recall the sushi midori in shibuya that I visited a few years ago one has even better sushi The set was preordered online and upon arrival the food came quickly Set meal is of good value and includes around 10-13 pieces of sushi plus salad and dessert
Kevin K — Google review
This place is simply a local gem. I’ve been visiting it occasionally for dinner and lunch for over several years and it never disappointed. The quality of ingredients is superb, the variety of fish and seafood options would likely to satisfy the most demanding customer, the proportion of rice and fish in sushi puts this place place far ahead of many other local places within similar price range. It’s unlikely to be seated for a walk-in customer and waiting in queue often requires, but it worth it! For reservations though, it would be nice to have an option to spare the minimum spending amount on what customer prefers and not be forced into special set!

Izakaya restaurant
Ogikubo Ichibe is a traditional izakaya eatery near Ogikubo station. The entrance, though underground, may be slightly perplexing. The menu offers a range of tasty seafood dishes with appropriate portion sizes. The extensive collection of Japanese sake is diverse and allows customers to enjoy different brands. The staff at Ogikubo Ichibe are known for their friendly and welcoming demeanor, resembling a close-knit family.
(Translated by Google) A shop for Japanese sake lovers. I've only been here a few times, but I've fallen in love with this store. I came here because Tama-chan from Asakusa Kid was recommended on You Tube, and I was completely hooked. 1,100 yen for a sake set where you can request just one of the three types of sake and choose the rest. It's a great deal since most drinks cost 500-700 for a glass at other restaurants, and the staff's knowledge of sake is great and they can tell you a lot about sake if you ask them, so it's a lot of fun. Also, the food is delicious no matter what you order! I've visited several times and tried a variety of things, and I've never been disappointed, they're all incredibly delicious! Particularly recommended are fish cakes, karaage, namerou, sashimi...just try everything, it's absolutely delicious. I'll come again, or rather, I've been here many times, but I want to come again. It's a nice shop. (Translated by Google) Two dishes, an appetizer, and four glasses of sake came to 5,000 yen. The food was delicious, but the sake itself was so-so. This is because they stock over 200 types of sake, and some of them had been opened a while ago, so the taste of some of the brands seemed to have deteriorated. Also, while it was nice that they provided refrigerated 1.8L bottles in front of me, leaving them out for long periods of time may have accelerated the deterioration. I think it's a good thing that rare sakes such as Hanayoke, Juyondai, and Aramasa are always available at a reasonable price. This may be unavoidable given the way the restaurant sells its products, but I would be more impressed if they could improve their quality control.

(Translated by Google) I visited Ogikubo's "Ichibee," a restaurant well-known among sake lovers. It's been about 12 years since I last visited. I'd heard that the previous president had passed away and a new person was in charge, but I never made it. I'd also heard rumors of a store relocation, but I finally got around to it. Previously, the restaurant had a raised area where you had to take your shoes off to enter, almost like a hot spring inn, but now it has a modern, bright feel that may make it more welcoming, but the contents of the refrigerator were still impressive. It's the kind of restaurant that makes you want to browse the refrigerator rather than look at the menu. When I inquired about sake, a knowledgeable staff member (perhaps the manager?) was happy to help, and I felt that this was truly Ichibee's charm. When I declined their recommendation for a fine sake, they said, "So your fine sake design wasn't good?" That was a very powerful comment (lol). *I loved it so much that I had just had it the other day and wanted to order something different. They have quite a few sakes that you wouldn't normally be able to try. Trying something you're interested in here and, if you like it, purchasing it at a liquor store might be a good way to learn more. As for the food, it was just as delicious as usual. They had a selection of seasonal dishes, and the selection was a little on the luxurious side to pair with alcohol. I can't quite remember what it was like before, but I got the impression that there were a surprising number of couples and families. Maybe the number of women who enjoy sake is on the rise... This time I only had a casual drink, so there aren't many photos, but it was my first time drinking in Ogikubo in a while. I'll definitely visit again when I have the chance.

Expectations are high as bottles of sake and labels are lined up everywhere from outside the store. The inside of the store is very large and has a relaxing space. There are about three commercial refrigerators right in front of your seat, and there is an impressive lineup of sake bottles lined up. I usually only drink sake at my parents' house, so I don't know the brands at all, but the person who was with me chose the brands one after another. The first sake I drank was an interestingly named sake called DATE7. A delicious sake that is slightly sweet and very easy to drink. The next thing I received was Kaze no Mori. Unfiltered, unadded water is amazing. This one was a little spicy and was the best. With around 300 types of sake, this is a store that is irresistible for Japanese sake lovers. Kisoji Yoga, a renowned sukiyaki and shabu shabu restaurant, is widely recognized for its exceptional washoku offerings. In addition to their famous Shabu Shabu, Kisoji provides a variety of other Japanese cuisine options such as tempura and sashimi. The quality of the food is simply exquisite, yet it remains reasonably priced. This culinary gem is a must-visit during your trip to Japan.
Traditional style Shabu Shabu with many options from seafood to quality meats. I love the one after another courses being served, it just kept coming. The meat was so soft and tender and melted in your mouth. The sushi was quality as well and tasted delicious with their authentic wasabi. Steamed egg pudding was one of my favorites so simple and comforting taste. The service was great as the waitresses were so helpful and kind. Although they seemed busy they responded when we asked for things we needed. I also love the traditional style of removing your shoes and sitting on the floor. They even take your shoes for you. Overall a great experience and fun for the whole family ! Fairly affordable as well for all that you’re receiving.

The breakfast is cheap but the quality is definitely there. As for the services, there are only two ordering machines instead of (like Sukiya) having ordering tablets for each table, so if you took a longer time ordering, it would be quite awkward to keep other customers in line waiting. Besides, most instructions (e.g. water dispenser buttons and restaurant rules) are only available in Japanese, so it might not be that friendly to foreigners.

Carrot Tower in Tokyo offers a unique experience with its free observation deck on the 26th floor, providing stunning views of the city. The building's orange facade gives it its name and houses a restaurant and an affordable cafe. Despite being located in a low-rise residential area, visitors can relax on comfy sofas while taking in the panoramic view.
Dropped by today to check out the famous 26th-floor observation deck. Elevator tip: you gotta take it from the 2nd floor because apparently Tokyo architects like to haze tourists before rewarding them with panoramic views. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Fuji majestically lurking in the distance like Japan’s ultimate mic drop. Today? Fuji was playing hard to get behind the haze. But still – the endless sprawl of Tokyo makes you feel like a single cell in an over-caffeinated ant colony. The café up here is perfectly fine, but explain this to me like I’m five: how do you name a building Carrot Tower and not sell carrot cake? That’s a marketing miss so large it should be a Harvard case study. “Lesson one: brand synergy, people.” Bonus points for the FM 83.4 radio station broadcasting live from the observation deck. Nothing screams “Tokyo” like pensioners chilling outside the glass booth while a woman with an anime voice reads the traffic report for Setagaya. Overall: ✔️ Free views (rare in Tokyo) ✔️ Clear-day Fuji flex ✔️ Weird café branding ✔️ Live radio energy Worth the elevator detour if you’re in Sangenjaya and want to contemplate your insignificance in the universe while sipping iced coffee without carrot cake.

The observation deck on the 26th floor of Carrot Tower is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for a breathtaking view of the city. The seating is comfortable, it's free, and the views are spectacular. Whether you're a photographer or just looking to relax and enjoy the scenery, this is a great place to spend a few hours.

Free observation deck and a nice coffee / cocktail bar that’s not too expensive

Free observation deck on the 26th floor with views of both out to Mount Fuji (covered by clouds when we visited) and eastwards to Shibuya and the rest of Tokyo. It was not busy at all when we visited. Recommended.

Shōin Shrine is a charming Shinto shrine nestled among cherry blossoms, dedicated to the Edo-period intellectual Yoshida Shoin. The shrine pays homage to Shoin Yoshida, an advocate for enlightenment and the adoption of Western practices during the mid-1800s. Despite being sentenced to death at a young age for opposing the shogunate, his legacy lives on at this serene shrine.
Hatsumode - first visit in the new year so busy but great atmosphere. The shrine is definitely worth visiting and is bigger than it first appears. You can pray at the shrine, but lucky charms, fortunes etc. It's not so big that it becomes overly crowded and there is free parking for bikes. There is some old fire fighting equipment and the cemetery is very peaceful.

Shōin Shrine was an insightful journey into Japan's history. Located in the Meguro district, this shrine is dedicated to Yoshida Shōin, a key figure in the Meiji Restoration, known for his teachings and influence in shaping modern Japan. The shrine itself is peaceful and beautifully maintained, with traditional Shinto architecture and a tranquil atmosphere. Walking around the grounds, I could sense the significance of the site, especially knowing it honors someone who played such a pivotal role in Japan’s transition into the modern era. The surroundings, filled with lush greenery and quiet pathways, added to the serenity of the experience. As an Indian, it was fascinating to learn about Shōin's legacy and his impact on Japan’s path to modernization. It was a moment of cultural exchange, allowing me to appreciate not only the shrine but also the rich history it represents. I would highly recommend visiting Shōin Shrine to anyone interested in Japan’s history, especially for those wanting to explore beyond the more well-known landmarks.

Very nice Shinto Shrine in Tokyo. Looks very well kept and used my locals. Nice landscaping and shrine gate.

I've always admired Mr. Shoin. He inspired me to take studying seriously. I got N3 JLPT earlier this year and in June, I finally got to pay a visit to his shrine in Tokyo.

Beautiful local shrine and perfect place to pray on NY day. About half an hour of queue time. Quite serene at other times of the year. At the top of a nice street with small ships and cafes

Shrine dedicated to Yoshida Shoin. Nice Goshuin.

It's a popular shrine and it's a 30mins walkable distance from Sangen-jaya Sta. I would recommend the Setagaya line. Parking: available Stamp fee: 300 to 500¥

Shoin Jinja is located in the middle of Setagaya city and is accessible by Setagaya line or you can take a long walk from Sangenjeya station too. It's big and has a lot of parking space. Bring your best camera or a pro photographer for shooting your own events too.

Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory is a must-visit for Studio Ghibli fans in Setagaya, Tokyo. This cozy bakery and cafe, owned by Hayao Miyazaki's sister-in-law, exudes the whimsical charm of a Miyazaki film. The two-story establishment features rustic decor and original sketches by Miyazaki.
Absolute cuteness overload! The Totoro cream puffs are as delicious as they are adorable. Excellent quality, with a lovely selection of seasonal flavors. Tucked away in a peaceful neighborhood, it’s a perfect little escape from the city buzz. Easily one of our favorite stops in Tokyo — 10/10!

Stepping into Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory in Setagaya City feels like wandering straight into a Studio Ghibli film! As someone looking for an interesting and different lunch spot, this place delivered pure magic. The Totoro cream puffs are every bit as adorable as they look in the pictures, almost too cute to eat. I had the Custard flavor (just like the one pictured!) and it was not only incredibly charming but also deliciously light and creamy. The entire cafe upstairs exudes a whimsical Ghibli charm, making it a truly unique and delightful place to enjoy a sweet and savory lunch. A must-visit for Ghibli fans and anyone seeking a truly special experience! Please note, arrive early if you want as table as there can be a queue to enter. There's no queue for takeaways though.
Plotting M — Google review
This place was so cute! I loved all of the little decorations on the shelves and adorable framed posters on the walls. It’s a small shop but there isn’t really much need for a lot of space anyway, so it’s not a big issue. The cream puffs are so cute that I almost didn’t want to eat mine at first, but when I finally took a bite I couldn’t stop because it was so delicious. I highly recommend going here if you are a Studio Gibli fan, or even if you aren’t and just happen to be in the area. Either way, you won’t regret it!
APerson14 — Google review
I absolutely LOVED this cafe and it exceeded my expectations in the best possible way. When you step inside, there is a small takeaway shop on your left and when you go upstairs, you will find the cafe where you can sit and have a coffee and Totoro cream puff (amongst other baked goods). We got seated right away at the most charming table overlooking the entryway staircase and service was prompt and excellent throughout our visit. The cream puffs themselves were so delicious!! Sometimes with themed foods, it can be underwhelming when you actually try it. At this cafe however, you can tell the bakers take pride in crafting their pastries. We had a custard cream puff and a blueberry one with a coffee and both were divine (see pics of disassembled totoros for reference lol). It is such a happy, uplifting place to visit and it was also nice to see how happy these cute totoros made everyone, from young to old. I dream of returning here one day.

Sweet place in a BEAUTIFUL and quiet neighbourhood. There was a wait for the dine-in cafe, so I purchased two buddies to go. The bachan behind the counter was super sweet, helpful, and had a wonderful smile. I had the Raspberry & Cream Cheese Totoro and the Custard Cream Totoro. Both were fantastic. The pastry was a good crunch and not sweet, which balanced the much sweeter insides well. The raspberry one had a strong cheesecake flavuor, which I like, but some may not. The custard was fantastic. I would recommend for a sweet solo or couples date, friends meet up, and a treat to spoil oneself.

The cutest Café ever with the cutest owner! We went on a Sunday in early September at 12:45 am (they open at 11 am) and there were still plenty of cream puffs left. I got the chocolate one & it was soo yummy!Definetely come here if you like Totoro :) (also the surrounding area is very cute & it‘s on the way to Gotokuji Temple if you‘re travelling from Shinjuku area)
Flora's L — Google review
A place catering to fans of Ghibli films, Shiro-Hige's Cream Puff Factory provides cute, photo worthy delicacies but with standard tasting profiles. If you aren't fans of Totoro or anything Ghibli, then it's best to skip this one. But if you are fans, I'd recommend just getting take out and going through the omiyage they have for sell because the food options and dining area isn't anything special. I arrived 30 minutes before opening and ended up second in line. By opening time the line had grown to over capacity and not everyone would be seated. There is only seating for around 20 people. I ordered one of each flavor of Totoro Cream Puff and a cappuccino. The flavors at the time (they are seasonal) were custard, blueberry, mango, and chocolate. The problem with these puffs is that they aren't made fresh. Which is understandable considering how they are decorated but they certainly taste like they've been in storage for awhile. It has that "refrigerator" character and aftertaste to it. But as far as the fillings go, I'd say the blueberry and mango are better tasting than the custard and chocolate. The clarity of the fruit flavor was very strong and you get bits of pulp as well. It is also slightly sweeter than the custard and chocolate ones. The custard one I'd say is pretty standard issue with it being slightly sweeter than the average cream puff in Japan. Now the chocolate one was the least sweet and the most average/standard issue one out of all of them. I'd skip this one even if you are a chocolate lover. There was no distinct or unique chocolate flavors coming out of this. Just double up on another flavor if you are considering multiple puffs. The cappuccino is below average here. It was slightly bitter with no natural sweetness and was overloaded with milk. I do not recommend getting one. The dining area is nothing special either. It's small/cozy but it is not themed or anything like that. The regular food options for breakfast was also limited to two other things, neither one I wanted to try. Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory should only be a visit for Ghibli fans. And for fans, it is recommended to just get take-out. There is also a selection of omiyage that you only get to see if you are ordering take-out. Dining in is not really worth it here. For anyone else looking for good coffee or pastries, there are many other places to choose from in Tokyo.
James A — Google review
I went alone and didn’t want to wait for a spot in the cafe, so I opted for the takeout line which took all of 5 minutes to get through on a Sunday morning around 10:30AM. I took my cream puffs to a local park and enjoyed them there! Delicious filling and an excellent pastry exterior too.

Seafood donburi restaurant
Umimachi Don is a hidden gem in the neighborhood, offering a unique vending machine ordering system outside. The small and cozy traditional place serves meticulously prepared seafood rice bowls that are not only delicious but also reasonably priced. With its charming ambiance and delightful flavors, it quickly becomes a favorite for many visitors. The restaurant offers a daily special menu, and upon request, they provide ochazuke at the end of the meal, which includes seafood soup and extra rice.
Very small restaurant, but the workers were so nice and the atmosphere was cozy. I ordered the special kaisen-don and then ate it ochazuke style towards the end. The fish was fresh, great quality, and the whole meal was just refreshing and delicious.

Exceptional gem in the heart of Setagaya. The seafood bowl was delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was great, and they were so friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat! Highly recommend.

This place is amazing if you like Chirashi Zushi and sashimi which are chopped up. For me the best tasting cost performance Chirashi Zushi in Tokyo. Very fresh and reasonable prices, the base price starts at ¥1,000. My recommendation is to mix the shoyu, wasabi and the vinegar gel together, and pour it over the sashimi bits before eating (probably not the polite way). Save some rice and few pieces of sashimi for the finish. They provide dashi at the end to put over your remaining rice,so you can enjoy a nice warm ochzuke at the end. I also save and add some Japanese pickles to the Ochazuke. The place can only sit 5-6 people so can get very crowded, especially during lunch time.

Delicious seafood donburi! The staff were also very friendly and helpful. You order at a vending machine and then give the ticket to the staff to prepare your meal.
Darren W — Google review
Small hidden gem close to Sangenjaya Station. The place it is really small (only 5 seats) so sometimes there might a small line, but the wait it totally worthy. Specialized in Kaisendon, you can choose different variation of donburi. Quality/price I would recommend the 上(jyo) and you can always add some extra fish as topping if you want. If it is not sold out also try to get the miso soup. At the end you can the ochazuke and the owner will refill you with some free rice and wasabi if you are almost done with your portion. Lastly the restaurant is English friendly and you can upgrade your rice to large size for free. If you are passing by the Sangenjaya area definitely stop here for lunch.
Gregorio M — Google review
a quaint diner that seats five indoors. the menu is situated outdoors, and you can use Google lens to figure out what's what. then you purchase the meal you want through the machine beside and pass the ticket to the chef inside. as the fish is mixed, you can't request for any fish to be removed. the Don was fantastic and the fish were really fresh! for this price, it's really a steal. if you're in the area, you absolutely have to drop by!!

Found this hole in the wall place just by walking around the area. Placed an order via the vending machine outside and you get seated. Food is prepared meticulously and tasted really good. Not anything super special but it is still a good don! I tried the special menu for today. You even get ochazuke at the end if you ask for it :) a warm seafood broth with rice at the end of meal is definitely welcomed. Thanks for being patient with us and translating for my friend and I when we can’t understand :)

Bonus Track is a trendy hangout located just a short walk from Shimokitazawa Station. The area features about a dozen shops connected by walking paths and a vibrant courtyard with plenty of outdoor seating. Many of the small restaurants and cafes offer takeout options, making it convenient for visitors to order from outside. On weekends, there are often events and markets selling ceramics, clothing, and fresh produce. Additionally, Bonus Track provides a comfortable outdoor space with various food and beverage options.
This place is a vibrant spot with a variety of food and drink, each offering something unique and interesting 🍽️🍹. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting—perfect for catching up with friends or just enjoying a laid-back moment. It’s a great place to hang out, especially in pleasant weather 🌿. That said, with the weather getting hotter lately, I imagine it could feel a bit too hot during the peak of summer ☀️🥵. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Mariya P — Google review
It's a pity that most of the shops are closed by 8pm. Some seems to work a little while longer on friday and weekends, but it's still sad, cause the place is perfect for evening hang outs. Love the ambient light and cite tables with gas lamps ☺️

Just a 5-minute walk from Shimokitazawa Station, Bonus Track is a cozy shopping street that brings together about 15 unique shops, ranging from restaurants and bakeries to independent bookstores and specialty cafés. One of the best parts of Bonus Track is its relaxed, open-air atmosphere. With plenty of outdoor seating, it’s easy to grab a drink or some food to go and simply enjoy the local vibe—especially on a pleasant day. We visited during the city’s "Moon Art Night Shimokitazawa" festival and had the chance to try some of the limited-edition menus offered by the shops. If you’re planning a visit, make sure to check Bonus Track’s event schedule in advance so you don’t miss out on seasonal specials and community happenings.

Really nice area to take a walk and stop by. They have restaurants, cafés, stores with food and goods, and art galleries. The design of the whole complex is modern and stylish. They have chairs, tables and benches to sit outside with your takeout order, as well as places to sit inside. It’s a popular place, but not crowded, so you can find a spot to sit and enjoy. Dogs are welcome.

Izakaya restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Namikibashi Nakamura Honten is a trendy restaurant with a sophisticated atmosphere and limited seating due to its recent surge in popularity. Known for its thick sashimi slices, tender roast meat, and hot pot dishes, it offers an authentic dining experience. The staff is attentive and friendly, providing excellent service even with the language barrier. The handwritten Japanese menu adds to the authenticity, and recommendations are readily available.
Was brought here by Japanese colleagues and was blown away by the experience, fortunately we had native Japanese with us who speak fluent English who could explain what was going on and did the ordering. The omakase set was really great and first time in a proper izakaya with no other foreigners in attendance!

Food was magical and staff was incredibly nice. They only have a Japanese menu, and the staff was so patient with us and even helped us translate each item. Atmosphere is also very upscale & nice. Highly recommend this place!

This place is a gem! The menu was in Japanese, so chef Taiki-san helped us out by giving us recommendations and figuring out what we would like. He also recommended the perfect portions for us without forcing us to over-order. The food was excellent, with their own twists in regular dishes. If you’re uncomfortable with this approach, you can try just ordering the omakase menus. You can’t go wrong I think:

I had an amazing experience of Japanese cuisine in this place! I’ve tried many different types of food. My favourite was the squid! Normally I’m not fan of the squid but here, in this place - it was so DELICIOUS! Staff was amazing! Nice and kind and the atmosphere just perfect☺️

Fantastic first dinner ever in Tokyo! We arrived just this evening and were looking for places to eat around the hotel. We had a fabulous omakase experience! Tried dished we would never otherwise would. Staff was so amazing and friendly, and even with the language barrier (we know 0 Japanese) we had a great time.

Maybe I had pretty height expectation but I feel the food didn’t meet my expectations. Of course it was not bad, but it was just okay considering it was pricier than other good places. One thing I really didn’t like was the floor was very sticky.

Everything was perfect: the food, the service and the place. It felt like being in Kyoto in the middle of Tokyo. I wish I can visit again soon!

This was my second visit to this place and it’s truly one of my favorite places to not only have unagi, but to eat in general. The ambiance is like walking into an old Japanese house, complete with a koi pond. The service is friendly and accommodating, and you can feel great care is taken in everything they do. The unagi itself is so delicious and melts in your mouth. The umaki (unagi rolled in egg) is also fantastic. It’s a bit expensive, but totally worth trying.

The Unagi is fantastic. Their special one is even better (but you have to go early to get it because they have limited numbers of the special one everyday). Service is great, but the atmosphere can be a lil too silent at times
Guy T — Google review
Great Unagi restaurant in residential area of Kaminoge. Recommend a clean counter seat so that you can watch chefs in action while waiting for your gorgeous unagi to be prepared. You can bring in your own alcohol drinks (around JPY1000 per bottle, but be sure to tell them upon your reservation). Champagne would go great with shira-yaki. Enjoy!
Oxamv N — Google review
Very expensive and some of the worst unagi I've ever had, to top it all off, the whole place smells like the sewer has backed up. The eel is somehow both mushy and rubbery, I needed to concentrate to finish the 1 bite I took without spitting it out. The rice was over cooked. The sauce was both too sweet and salty at the same time. A complete disaster. Honestly, without exagerating, you can get far superior unagi at one of the gyudon places or even as a station lunch box. Finally if all the above weren't bad enough, the service was horrifically bad. Slow, snobby and generally unresponsive.
