The Ghibli Museum is a delightful haven for fans of animation and art, located just a short stroll from Mitaka Station. This enchanting space pays tribute to the beloved Studio Ghibli, creators of iconic films like Totoro and Spirited Away. Visitors can immerse themselves in original artwork, enjoy exclusive animated shorts in the cozy cinema, and wander through the rooftop garden featuring the impressive Robot Soldier from Laputa Castle in the Sky.
What a lovely place to visit for Ghibli fans. There's so much history and behind the scenes of original artwork and makings of various movies. Tickets are quite challenging to come by so don't expect to just show up the day of and expect to get in as you need to book well in advance! Be respectful and do not take pictures on the inside, only outside. For those tight on time, you can do the entire museum, with short movie feature, and shopping in about 1.5 hours. Definitely worth the trip and knocked off my bucket list.

This place is magical! Every detail has been considered to make the Ghibli Museum fun for both kids and adults. Don't miss the screening for a short film that can only be watched at the museum. Photography is not allowed inside the building but outside is ok. Tickets must be purchased in advance for entry.
Dennis T — Google review
The Ghibli Museum was the highlight of my 2-week trip to Japan!! I cannot describe adequately what a fulfilling experience this was. Ticket reservations are required and getting tickets internationally is honestly based on luck when entering the queue at time of them opening. Seems like they split the population of tickets in half between international vs domestic, so if you have a friend/family who lives in Japan and have a Japanese address/phone #, you will have much better luck getting tickets due to availability. As for the museum itself, there are plenty of reviews and videos regarding the exhibitions and highlights. It made me appreciate the Studio Ghibli films even more and how much effort goes into the making of a film due to volume of frames, laying out storyboards, etc. Photos inside the exhibits are prohibited which I also think allows visitors to just be more immersed in the content and visuals that Miyazaki himself had a hand in designing. If you get a chance to go to Ghibli Museum—prioritize this among all the other places and things to do in Japan. Even my husband, who has only seen a couple films so not a full SG “enthusiast”, had a great time at this museum and thought the exhibits were fascinating :)
Michelle K — Google review
Loved this place! It really feels like stepping into a Ghibli movie with colorful hallways, spiral stairs, stained glass, and so many tiny details everywhere. The exhibits show how the films are made with sketches and storyboards, and there’s a monthly rotating short film you can only watch here, which makes it extra special. The gift shop has lots of exclusive items like postcards, figures, plushies, and ceramics, it’s definitely worth browsing. I also stopped by the cafe and got a chocolate cake and black tea; the cake was moist, fluffy, and not too sweet. You need to buy tickets in advance (they sell out quickly and aren’t sold at the door), and you can only take photos outside. The rooftop garden with the Castle in the Sky robot is such a lovely space.
Miffy — Google review
This was our third visit (second time during this trip) and there’s something about Ghibli that keeps you coming back. The Boy and The Heron exhibition has been updated from last year which was incredible to see the water coloured art. Make sure to watch the short film, you can also buy the books for 500yen to take home, cash only. They are in Japanese but make for a unique souvenir alongside two books about the museum are on sale for 1000yen that come with a free poster of the Ghibli museum layout, possibly my favourite souvenir which was available in Japanese or English. I have included others at the end. Before you visit pop by Shiroshige’s cream puff factory and enjoy a Totoro cream puff and cat bus rum-raisin sandwich. We like to arrive early to absorb the atmosphere and the snack, equally walking through the park to get to the museum is also very tranquil. You only need 2-3 hours to explore the museum and there is a cafe outside where you can get beverages and food. Lacking on the vegetarian offerings but I knew that going in so it didn’t bother me. Well worth the visit for any fan! Don’t be afraid to explore the area after visiting it has great shops and restaurants.
Cara H — Google review
We visited the museum in the morning slot, and the arrival felt quite charming, even though the neighborhood we walked through beforehand was a bit less clean than expected. The museum itself is surrounded by a pleasant environment and has a cozy atmosphere. Inside, the building feels a bit dated, but the exhibitions were interesting and offered a glimpse into the world of Studio Ghibli. Some areas were mildly interactive, though I felt the museum could benefit from more engaging, hands-on elements – especially considering the theme. The space itself is smaller than I imagined and could definitely be expanded to create a richer experience. A practical note: all descriptions inside were only in Japanese, so non-Japanese speakers might miss some context, and photography or phone use is strictly prohibited. Overall, it’s clearly designed with children in mind. If you’re visiting Tokyo as a group of adults, I would not consider it a must-see, as there are many other attractions in the city that may be more rewarding. Still, it was a unique and memorable experience for any fan of Ghibli.
Nikolas K — Google review
Five stars feels inadequate for such a magical place. This entire experience was flawless from start to finish. The building itself is beautiful, designed down to the tiniest detail with inspiration, beauty and practicality in mind. The stained glass decorations and windows were wonderful. The staff were all extremely professional, helpful and friendly. Even the uniforms of the staff were tailored with aesthetics and practicality in mind. The exhibits were great, especially the rooms set up like an animator's studio. Beware the gift shop, you can easily go crazy in there, and I did. The café too was clean, well laid out and provided quick delicious meals. It was a religious experience for me but then I am a Ghibli fan and have been looking forward to going for a long time. If you aren't interested in Studio Ghibli then it won't resonate the same...but if you aren't then why are you reading this review?
Benny — Google review
After 10 years of living in Japan, I finally visited the Ghibli Museum with my friends. We went towards the end of the day, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect given all the hype and praise it receives. As someone who enjoys Ghibli films but isn’t a die-hard fan, I found the experience pleasant but not mind-blowing. The museum is fascinating, especially for those interested in the mechanics of animation; it’s a wonderful place for kids to explore and learn. However, the overall space is smaller than I anticipated. The exclusive short films they screen monthly are fun and creative, but keep in mind there’s no English subtitles, which might be challenging if you don’t understand Japanese. One thing to note, even though photos and videos are strictly prohibited inside the museum, some visitors still break the rules, which can be quite annoying and distracting from the experience. On a positive note, I have to say their bathrooms are surprisingly exquisite and impressive, definitely worth a mention! Overall, it’s a good visit, especially if you’re a fan of Miyazaki’s work or curious about the animation process. Just keep your expectations in check. For a 1,000 yen ticket, it’s definitely worth seeing at least once.

Inokashira Park, a 95-acre city park established in 1917, offers a serene escape with its picturesque pond, boating facilities, and scenic trails. The park is renowned for its cherry blossoms, attracting crowds to admire the majestic weeping cherry blossom tree at Rikugien Garden. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely date with attractions like swan boats, temples to explore, and opportunities for picnics.
Such a beautiful park area, plenty of open space to walk or just relax. This was my first time visiting this location, it was recommended by a friend from Japan. I was happy to find my first blossom of the year ☺️ The park is very clean, friendly and feels very safe. There also seemed to be places to eat and drink within the park area, but my only plan was to walk and keep walking ☺️ Will definitely come here again

Lovely park, an oasis of tranquility in the midst of a bustling city. We were surprised by how calm and large it is. Beautifully laid out, spotless and numerous activities. The park also contains a small zoo. The lake adds to the overall serenity. You can rent a pedalo, or a rowing boat, to admire the scenery from the water. The train station is very close to an entrance, and the park is free of charge. Afterwards cross the station to find yourself in covered shopping streets. Plenty of shops and restaurants around, including in the train station.

Such a beautiful, tranquil park with a lake in the middle. You can even hire out different boats for half an hour from a dock (row boats, Swan pedal boats) to take across the lake. I took a pedal boats with a friend. This was such a great and fun experience. There are also a few shrines around the park, and a few streets with eateries and shops to look around if you get bored. There's also a playground for little kids. The greenery is also spectacular, especially against the backdrop of the lake. I went during June but the park was still very lush. Highly recommend this spot as a nice break from the busy Tokyo city.

Super cute park! The leaves were falling from the trees when we visited, which made for a truly magical sight. There is a lake in the middle that you can paddle in or ride a duck boat. Walking paths surrounding it, along with children's play area and bridges along the way. Cafes and restaurants dotted along the path as well. Not so crowded - come for a relaxing time in a beautiful place!

Nice shopping mall located conveniently right in front of the Kichijoji Station (only a few steps walk ahead). It's not too crowded while I visited there on Monday night. Just like any other OIOI (or Marui) they have a wide selection of brands, male and female clothings, bags, jewellery, and accessories as well as my favorite 100 yen shop, Seria. I kind of forget on which floor it was but there's always a helpful store map near the entrance door or escalators so just check it there.

Elevator and wheel access consistently backed up. It's hard to enjoy a store when you cannot get into it. Tsukemen Enji Kichijoji is a popular spot in Tokyo, known for its delicious and thick dipping noodles. The process involves ordering from a vending machine, choosing your noodle and ramen soup type, and then waiting for the host to collect your order slips. Despite the queue, the line moves quickly, making it convenient for those next to the metro station. Visitors have praised the efficient service and tasty offerings at this original outlet in Kichijoji.
Such a tasty Ramen. Spicy version is a nice break from the general more sweet and soft Japanese cuisine. Came on a Thursday at 2.30pm and did not have to wait at all. Loved it.

Delicious small shop selling some of the best noodles I've ever had. Delightfully chewy noodles and rich sauce. Worth the wait.
Terrence W — Google review
Tsukemen was really so yummy. The spicy one had broke my taste barrier. Never tasted such yummy sauce before. Highly recommend eating the spicy one. Meat and noodles portion are generous. Happy to have tasted this before returning to my country.
Delven W — Google review
I came here accidentally after being in the area for another experience and stumbled upon a queue for dipping ramen which I am obsessed so I walked into it I was so surprised how thick with so much umami it had! I ordered the 1200 yen option and picked the popular noodle which was the thick and chewy one. I heard they also have a spicy version but I didn’t want to sweat in addition to hot soup on a summer day. I would say this was so delicious! I came at 10:55 right before opening at 11am and was able to be the first people to enter. There are about 13 seats. You put money into the vending machine first then pick your options. I just did the special dipping ramen at 1200 yen then pick your noodles. I was a little confused at first what to do.
Julie L — Google review
Some of the best tsukemen in Tokyo. The broth is very flavorful and the noodles are delicious. I ordered the tsukemen with all of the toppings. It features chashu pork, ramen egg, menma and a piece of nori on top of the noodles. Everything was perfect. The amount of care that goes into it is amazing: the noodles are even resting on a slotted platform inside of the bowl to drain out any extra water from boiling. And for only 1200 yen it’s an incredible deal. Also good to know: When you run out of soup or it gets cold you can ask for them to add a bit more soup. When you’re done with your noodles there’s a light broth you can pour I yourself to make it a lighter soup to drink at the end of the meal.
Wyatt M — Google review
soooo good! we were allowed to choose from three different noodles, and i got the soba. there is only one type of broth and you can choose to have it spicy. the dipping broth is very rich and tasty, and it isn't heavy. i got the spicy set with extra slices of meat and the egg, and i think it was worth the upgrade! the spice level is not mild like other places and it made me sweat as i kept eating 😆 they also have a pitcher with some broth/soup in it to dilute the dipping broth when youre out of noodles, and it makes it taste so good to drink on its own (very salty otherwise). they also have options for extra toppings on their ticket machine, but it's all in japanese so i suggest just translating it with your phone if you can't understand. they only have counter seats and doesn't seat a lot of people, so i think it's better to get there ahead of time to avoid the line. there were mostly locals asides us, so i think it's pretty popular! staff were also very friendly! would come back again :)
Shane K — Google review
Very nice and thick broth that’s very tasty! It’s shocking that this is a vegetarian broth. Even though it’s thick and rich, it’s not as heavy as other meat based thick broth. This is very palatable and you are able to eat more! The noodles are super chewy and springy, you are also able to choose 3 different types of noodles. The mochi mochi one is what we got and I love it! There will always be a queue but it moves pretty quick. I will definitely eat this again!
Majesta — Google review
Solid tsukemen. Worth the wait. You'll see a line down this long hallway. Before you get in line walk right inside and place your order on the vending machine. Cash only. There's some English signage to help you but you literally can't pick wrong. Once you get your ticket then go back outside and wait in line. If you're by yourself you'll probably sit faster. Try adding vinegar to your noodles. This isn't a place to eat and chat. You eat, you finish, you leave.

I had the pleasure of dining at 三田製麺所 in Kichijoji today and what an experience it was! I decided to try their signature tsukemen with all the toppings, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The tsukemen was well-balanced, with each ingredient complementing the other, creating an explosion of flavors that danced on my palate. The noodles were of perfect texture, not too soft and not too firm - they were just right, embracing the rich and delightful broth. Each topping added a unique touch, enhancing the overall flavor profile without overwhelming the dish. From the tender meat to the fresh vegetables, everything was cooked to perfection. The ambiance of the place added to the satisfaction of the meal, with attentive staff and a comfortable setting. If you find yourself in Kichijoji and are in the mood for an authentic, satisfying meal, I highly recommend 三田製麺所. It was a culinary adventure I will not soon forget. Happy slurping!

The cold sea bream salt tsukemen was a little different. Unfortunately, the rich tsukemen was also average. The Chinese noodles were Chinese or more like Japanese style, and the bonito flakes were effective and tasty, but they weren't Chinese noodles. I understand the idea behind it, but I can't say I want to eat there again. The noodles were very delicious. (Translated by Google) It's located on Inokashira Street, near the south exit of Kichijoji Station, in front of Marui. Until a few years ago, this was where Fuji Soba was located, but since it moved here, it has become brighter and more stylish. This was my first time at this restaurant. It's been about 10 years since I last visited Mita Seimen. Back when I used to work in Nishi-Shinjuku, I'd eat there at least once a week. It was dinnertime in Kichijoji, packed with people viewing the cherry blossoms at Inokashira Park, but the restaurant was empty, so I popped in. Their tsukemen starts at 930 yen. Ten years ago, it was about 100 yen cheaper, but with prices rising, it seems like the price hasn't changed much. The price remains the same, even up to the extra-large portion. Since it was dinnertime, I opted for the thick tsukemen with the largest portion, for 1,460 yen. I waited about 15 minutes, which seemed like a long time, but when I ate here at lunchtime, they would boil the noodles in advance, but now they probably only boil them after the order is placed. It had everything I was expecting, but when it arrived there was only one piece of pork as a topping, a seasoned egg that was too dark, and boiled bean sprouts. There wasn't much noodles for a large serving, so it was a bit disappointing considering the price difference. The broth was certainly rich and delicious. I think the noodles were like this, but the recipe seems quite different from 10 years ago. It was delicious, but different from what I remembered. The noodles took up most of the rich broth, so there wasn't much left, but I added some diluted soup. It was more like a dashi soup than a diluted soup. I wonder what kind of broth it was, it was so delicious it seemed artificial. Overall it was delicious, but I guess my memories were just too fond of it.

Cafe
Café du Lièvre, also known as Bunny House, is a charming cafe located in Inokashira Park with a cozy and vintage ambiance. It offers a mix of French-style pancakes and Japanese curries, making it an ideal spot for visitors exploring the park or Ghibli Museum. The cafe's menu includes delightful options such as almond caramel crepes and Montana dry curry sets.
5 star in terms of overall charm and setting in this park! We were looking for coffee and a bite to eat and found this French ambience with wonderful crepes and cafe au lait. Background music to complete the setting!

I’ve been coming to this spot for the past 10 years, I liked that is located in the park, the food is fine and that is dog friendly. However I will not be coming here anymore. The past few times I visited the service was horrible, it is noticeable how rude the staff is. It is definitely not something about one particular staff but rather something present among all of them. I wonder if they have just become a racist establishment. It’s such a shame, specially from a staple spot from the park. Perhaps this will help the management into taking action.

Took our dog here for a relaxing late lunch but there was still a queue. We waited for about 15-20 minutes which was okay. Staff was friendly and welcoming. They very swiftly offered water to our dog. We ordered a simple sweet crepe with ice-cream, raspberry sauce and chocolate chips. The crepe had a nice rich taste of egg. The raspberry sauce was not too overpowering. The experience was pleasant and we will visit again.

The park is lovely, but this cafe is not worth it. Visiting here really ruined my day. If you love nature and fresh air, DO NOT choose this place. The air in this cafe became really bad when the kitchen started to cook and the air did not become better during my whole visit. And the place is so limited. Also, they required each person to order one dessert and one drink, but it’s very funny that they dare not putting this fact clearly on their menu. Staff were very hard to communicate, despite the fact that this cafe is actually targeting tourists. If you care about your experience, re-consider before you walk in.

In the middle of the park, there is this beautiful cafe and it is very cozy. I'm really feeling like Bunny House. Staff will be kind and nice. Only ordering coffee is ok. But here food looks good too.

Cozy little place with vintage furniture, decoration and style. Located in Inokashira Park, it’s a good choice for those visiting it or Ghibli Museum. I tried their Montana dry curry mini salad set for ¥1,000, consisting on rice covered a dry curry with meat and a fried egg, with a side salad. The taste was really good and it was interesting to try a dry curry, with no liquid sauce. After every customer left, the staff (wearing masks all the time) thoroughly cleaned the table and everything on it with hydro-alcohol as a caution for COVID-19. Staff was friendly, fast, kind and professional. You can pay with your credit card from ¥3,000.

Located within Inokashira Park. It is more on the pricy side but the food is good. The menu is rather limited but you’ll be able to find something you’d like to eat, hopefully. You will be served with a teapot for brewing tea if you order hot tea, but the serving amounts to only one cup.
Bernadette G — Google review
Really good food. It does hide a little bit from view due to the trees from the park. Menu may seem a bit pricey, but definitely worth it for the taste. We got two types of curry and raspberry crepe with vanilla ice cream and they were all delicious! I would recommend the original curry as is thicker and better flavor compared with the black curry, but both are good nonetheless.

Italian restaurant
Primi Baci is a high-end Italian restaurant located near Inokashira Park in Japan. Unlike many Japanese Italian restaurants, Primi Baci serves traditional Italian cuisine using seasonal ingredients. The restaurant offers a sleek and bright atmosphere with a leafy terrace that provides a nice view of the park. It's highly accessible, being just a 3-minute walk from Kichijoji Station.
One of the best places to celebrate an occasion in Kichijoji My husband arranged a dinner course for me here on my birthday . The appetizer , soup and the main fish plate was exceptionally delicious. They also took our photo with the restaurant's camera printed it , had the day of our visit written on the photo and presented it. The restaurant's garden view is worth it if you are visiting on lunch The only small detailed missed was that they don't arrange a paper with the menu of the day. But in other words your guest can look forward to every meal with excitement. Service was beyond excellent loved this restaurant.

Delicious course with strong flavors in each dish. I have, however, had better bread at less expensive locations. Wonderful atmosphere sitting at the terrace overlooking bamboo groves and the edge of a nearby park. Service was flawless, but the restaurant was mostly vacant. Overall very pleased.

We selected the course menu to celebrate a special occasion, and two of the courses featured a tart smaller than a ¥100 coin and three tortellini. The portion sizes did not improve as the meal progressed and the food was woefully under-seasoned. Save your time and money by eating elsewhere.

Jindaiji Temple, a historic Buddhist temple founded in 733 and rebuilt in 1919, is one of Tokyo's oldest temples. Nestled in the serene surroundings of Chofu City, it features several temple buildings surrounded by lush gardens and thriving trees. The area around the temple is filled with the sound of clear-water streams and traditional Japanese-style food stalls, eateries, and shops.
Jindaiji Temple was created and built in 733 and it is believed to be the second oldest temple in Tokyo after Sensoji Temple in Asakusa area. Its Main Hall was rebuilt in 1919 due to fire events in 1646 and 1865. The Main Hall worships the statue of Amida Nyorai or Buddha, while the Temple also has Hakuhoh Buddha which is a Shaka Nyorai Izo or Sitting Buddha, housed in Ganzandaishi Hall, which is stated to be the oldest national treasure of a Buddha statue in Kanto Region or Eastern Japan. Most of the Japanese temples have so called Mountain Gates or “sanmon” as their main gates, for Jindaiji, its main gate has history of 300 years because it was built from 1695 with originality till now. For tourists, in Tokyo area, who try to find a religious place which still preserve simple, but dignified, serene nature with forest wood, spring water, then, Jindaiji Temple, in Chofu, is probably an excellent place to go because, up to now, while it has a few foreign visitors, it does not have so-called noisy foreign tourist crowd yet. Also, it is within shorter than 1-hour train ride from Shinjuku, Tokyo, and visitors can access the Temple by take local bus easily or walk easily with clear road signs. For Access- by Keio Line to Chofu Station, KO 18, and visitors can either walk or take local bus No 34 to the final stop, the Jindaiji Temple. The Temple is free for entry, and there are toilets for visitors. The Temple does offer daily worship ceremony.

This temple is not only a place for devotion . It also have some green parts all around the temple complex which is great from end of April. You can sit down on a bench near a carved Buddha on a rock, dwelling on a cave where believers comes to address some prayers. There is also a botanical park nearby which I not yet been. My main interest was to see around the remain of a Uesugi fortress nearby which I fail as it was late and too crowded. You can go there by bicycle from Kichijoji or Mitaka station BTW if you can and also by bus, a 20-30 min ride. There is also a lot soba (buckwheat noodles) restaurant with long lines if you happen to be there on a sunny day during Golden week in early May. I guess it’s one delicacy as it seems very popular. This place is worth seeing if you are looking for something that looks like traditional and historical.

I came to area to visit temple and look at flowers in the botanical garden. I went on Monday which was a poor idea as the botanical garden rests on Monday. But for the temple, it was fully open with lots to see. In the back was shrine with ceremonies commencing, lots of flowers and trees were in full bloom, and the entrance to the temple was filled with lots of stores selling tasty snacks like shaved ice, and fried mochi. The temple was quite nice and quiet, a great place to relax and enjoy nature. Next time I will have to visit on a Tuesday or Thursday in order to visit the garden. Next time

Large temple complex with interesting elements if you’re interested in Japanese religions. It’s connected to the nearby Jindai botanical gardens and they can be enjoyed together. Many souvenirs shops and restaurants outside the temple. It’s quite far from the nearby train station but there’s quite frequently a bus.

Such a beautiful and historically significant Temple. The grounds are so beautiful with the botanical garden being adjacent. There's also good food that is both delicious and affordable out around the area. There are free maps with historical information for those who are interested.

Inokashira Park Zoo is a family-friendly destination in Tokyo, Japan. It features interactive experiences where visitors can touch and hold small animals. The zoo is divided into two sections: one dedicated to breeding and releasing mandarin ducks into the wild, along with other indigenous animals like red-crowned cranes, Amur cats, rhesus monkeys, and Yaku deer; the other section houses various species including tropical birds.
Great zoo with so much to see and do, would recommend at least 2-3 hours to fully experience and enjoy it. They also have a cafe and small shop, and the cherry trees were starting to bloom. You also get entry to the aquatic park with the one ticket which is nice.
Alexandra — Google review
This zoo is great! There is a lot to see and do with the sculpture garden and history museum areas as well as a number of areas with animals. What I like about this one is it was very open and animals weren't squished into tiny pens like we have seen before (at Ueno Zoo for example). There is also a second area across the bridge to see the water birds and to walk through more of the area. It's very beautiful and nice for a relaxing day wandering around.
K M — Google review
Lovely local zoo with both land and aquatic sections. Squirrel habitat is adorable! We spent a couple of hours there enjoying both sides of the zoo, and it's an easy walk to the Ghibli Museum.

Beautiful little park and zoo. Like an oasis in the middle of the city. Not Tokyo. But Kichijoji. More like a town vibe. There are two parts to the zoo on either side of the road. They even have some larger mammals like an elephant. Although I haven’t seen the elephant. But most animals are badgers or squirrels. Very cute. You can enter the squirrel cage and absence them closely.

Nice place for kids. Convenient in terms of transportation and price. You can take bus from Kunitachi station, Chofu station or Mitaka station and get down right in front of the zoo. Perfect for a day out!

I can't stress enough how beautiful this park is during cherry blossoms season late March and early April, I came during early April 2022, and the flowers were beginning wilt and were falling off. I recommend in late March. The experience was once in a life time especially for those not coming back to Japan anytime soon. One of the most memorable experiences in Japan.

A nice small zoo, good for about an hour or so with the kids. Children up to 12 go I'm for free and adults are only 400 ¥ so it's inexpensive addition to a walk in the park. Don't miss the squirrel trail.

Butcher shop
Satou Kichijoji is a popular spot located north of Kichijoji JR station, known for its long queues that spill out onto the street. The shop is famous for its Maru Menchi Katsu, a minced beef cutlet that attracts crowds due to its savory aroma and delicious taste. Despite the long lines, the service is quick with freshly prepared and hot items available.
Super fresh and super good! The fried minced meat (メンチカツ) is their specialty. It has a really nice flavor, it’s juicy and filled with caramelized onions. It’s honestly very cheap for the quality. You can get 5 for ¥280 each, and they’re pretty filling. I also got a croquette (コロッケ). It was also very tasty. The texture is amazing. You have to eat it fresh!! It’s so much better 🤤
Yoshio H — Google review
Famous place with a long line but the line moves quickly. Good flavours. Got the minced beef and croquette. Croquette was okay. The beef cutlet on a stick was sold out so I can only assume that it’s really good.

Knowing that their deep fried beef cake is very famous, so buy one and tried it. Tastes very good and lot of onions, so juicy and yummy. They're also selling frozen hamburg, and fresh beef hamburger.

If you're a fan of minced beef, this shop near JR Kichijoji station is an absolute must-visit! The quality of the beef is exceptional - it's tender, flavorful, and incredibly juicy. Each bite is a burst of rich, meaty goodness.Price-wise, it's reasonable for the quality you're getting. You're definitely getting your money's worth in terms of taste and portion size.

Don’t be turned away by the queue - it moves fast!! These croquette meat balls were amazingly juicy, crunchy, and flavorful! It was packed with filling, and there was a nice balance between the meat and onions. A must-try if you’re at kichijoji! 😍

Steakhouse Satou Here’s my review from December 2019: We just arrived at JR Kichijoji Station, and we’re hungry. Three months ago, we saw this place had a long line — about 30 people or so. Long lines mean good food. We had to come back (we were stuffed with tendon back then anyway). 5pm-ish. No lines. We’re early. Good; we get the best seats in the house — right in front of the teppanyaki grill. The shop is small, with only about 16 seats, of which 6 are by the grill. Ten minutes after we ordered, the plates arrive. Perfect medium rare. ... ...... The steak is ridiculously tender. It only needs a tender chew before you get the richness of the beef. It has a very clean taste. So good! The seasoning is spot on; salt is balanced that you can eat it on its own, or paired nicely with rice. The vegetables are incredible, too! The carrots are cooked tender and very sweet (I even thought these were sweeter than most mangoes). Bean sprouts, mushrooms, and beans — all very fresh, and grilled just right to loosen the vegetable a bit. It’s one of the best steaks we’ve ever had. Suggestion: Get the ¥10,000 steak. It’s pricey, but worth every single penny.

Note: this review is for the Satou steakhouse above the butchery/mince-takeaway : The B E S T steakhouse in the world with the best beef in the world cooked in the best style in the world. (2023 update : slightly surpassed by Steak Yoshiike in Hakone in terms of price as quality of meat and cooking for both is a tie - see my other review) Serves matsuzaka beef with the perfect accompaniment of sides. Take the dinner menu with the special matsuzaka beef options, not the standard lunch menu which serves a lower grade cut. I have tried US, Australian, Irish, Argentinian, NZ, etc, and no other beef comes close. I daresay i like matsuzaka better than kobe beef. A friend who is the ultimate beef lover i know said it is the best steak he has ever tasted in 2016 and still the best in Jul 2019 when we ate there again. After eating here, there is no point eating any other kinds of steak in any other country. We loved it so much, we tried their tsukiji branch and had their dinner menu at lunchtime. Verdict : both the same beef quality, same skill, but pricing in Kichijoji is cheaper on the weekends (¥8k vls ¥10k weekdays) for a sirloin cut (tsukiji branch is a full course meal for dinner option hence the substantial price differential and they dont serve garlic chips like Kichijoji branch).

Theme park
Kichijōji Petit Mura, located just a short walk from the Ghibli Museum, is a charming complex of whimsical buildings adorned with colorful vines and unique shapes. The fairy-tale-like architecture houses various cafes, art galleries, and shops with a feline theme. Cat-shaped water fountains and windows offer glimpses into the Temari No Oshiro cat cafe, evoking scenes from The Cat Returns.
Very cute cats, though they were probably a little burned out from all the attention, I think it's normal for a cat cafe. The workers seemed to take a lot of care making sure of the cats safety. We ordered french fries (the dips came to make it the shape of a paw print!) and iced drinks. The food was pretty good, nothing remarkable but we didn't come for the food. There is no limit on how long you can stay but I think I probably stayed too long and wore out my welcome. One of the staff looked at me and my friend and then very pointedly checked her watch, which we took as a sign that we should probably leave. I think that's fair, we were there for a really long time. (Sorry!) For other foreigners, be aware that there are no chairs, you need to sit on a pad on the floor. (Which is fine, but for those who aren't comfortable with it this is just a heads up.)
Alex S — Google review
This place was made on a small plot of land, which is made for regular houses/shops, so the place wasn't too big. However, this is a whimsical place to stop at, which is great if you are coming from the nearby ghibli museum. There are a few shops there that sell accessories, jewelry, and two cafes : one normal cafe and a cat cafe. Some of the accessories are expensive, but definitely one of a kind. I did not enter the cat cafe, but the normal cafe was enjoyable. it was a cafe price, so it was about $20/pax, and the servings were not big, but the food was quite tasty. Great for people who want a quick lunch before heading off to their next location.
Jamie T — Google review
very cute , there are warnings for the cats which are a little less friendly and informative sheet telling you which cats are allowed each treats. for only ¥200 you can get a tub of treats (*^ω^*) the cats on the second floor seem to prefer quiet and they will often hide away up there so it’s best to stay downstairs if you enjoy the energetic cats. the mochi mochi catdog was delicious and very unique !

Fantastic experience at the outdoor café with a cider drink and “wobbly” jelly that make a perfect combination. The service was very attentive and special, and the setting was beautiful. Inside the “park”, we were captivated by the imagination of those who designed the buildings and the outdoor space. However, it’s worth noting that in the indoor café, there was no care for the customers, and the approach was rather rude.

We explored Kichijõji on our first day in Tokyo. Being so warm still it was lovely to have a space to relax, not feel rushed and enjoy all the cat company. The little stores in the complex were great! Lots of support for small business. If you’re a cat person, it’s a must. So obvious the staff care about the cats, we enjoyed it and it didn’t feel forced.

Very cute atmosphere. You get 2 levels of cats. We came in the afternoon and half of the cats were asleep. A few of them had very cute outfits.

Such an adorable place. It's small but everything fit so well together. Really cute design. I suggest leaving big bags at home because the souvenir shop on the 2nd floor and even the cafe is a bit of a tight squeeze. You can go in to take pictures and just leave but I do recommend staying for some hot tea and snacks. They have interesting flavors.

Satou Kichijoji Steak House is a popular food vendor in Kichijoji known for its delicious menchi-katsu, which are beef croquettes made with minced wagyu beef, onion, and seasonings. The tiny shop often has a line of people waiting to get their hands on these tasty treats. Additionally, it's a classic Japanese-style steak house where the meat is cooked on an iron hotplate and served with rice and miso soup.
I've been back several times over about 5 years. The food is consistently of good quality. The restaurant focuses very strongly on the steak quality and it shows. There are no fancy culinary innvoations, just a good quality fut of meat and is sensitively cooked in salt and pepper. There are two sauces to accompany it, but that's it. Typically Japanese style, the steak is served with white rice. Tasty and perfectly done.
Christopher K — Google review
The staircase is narrow, so be careful if you have mobility issues. You can watch the food being prepared, which is a nice touch. Tried the Wagyu set — truly excellent, very high quality.

10/10 2nd time I came here and the steaks are just as good. The premium cuts are more fatty but regular Wagyu are pretty good too. 150g is enough for 1 for the lunch portion but definitely come a bit before they open as there'll be a line and you'll be waiting around 30minutes to an hour.

Good quality Japanese steak house. Fresh cooked and you can enjoy watching your food preparation. Seating area are small and located on second floor. You have to climb to the restaurant so if you cannot move well please be careful. Ventilation is not quite good so you may got some grilled smell after your meal. English menu and communication with staffs are ok. Credit card is ok.

There is an assortment of dishes: fish, beef, pork, pate, pasta, etc. and some very nice salads. Their European wines are quite good. The staff is friendly and helpful. One thing I didn't like was the long tables where you can be seated beside strangers. But if you're not put off by that, then give it a try. The food, though a bit pricy, is great.

We turned up without a reservation at lunch, I didn’t think we’d get in as it was very busy but we were seated after 5 minutes wait. The lady ‘welcoming’ us wasn’t friendly, don’t expect a smile from her but the table staff inside were very attentive and nice. We ordered 4 different lunch sets, all was tasty and the food came quickly, almost too quickly as we felt a little rushed at the beginning but it settled down. It’s a busy restaurant, the atmosphere isn’t great tbh but the staff are working hard. I would use again, we were happy with our lunch.

Waited from 11:10am to 11:30am (their stated opening time) with a party of two. It was a hot day, so one of us went to grab a drink. I was told I couldn’t enter until my friend arrived. To enter the restaurant, you have to walk down a short flight of stairs, but I was repeatedly asked to wait at the top. Meanwhile, local patrons were allowed to walk straight in without waiting for any staff instructions. I followed what I was told, but others clearly didn’t have to—it felt like double standards. When my friend returned, she was told the same thing—just 30 seconds before another couple walked in freely, again without any instruction. The waitress repeated the same message to us , but we were just behind the couple. It was confusing and frustrating, especially since the restaurant wasn’t full. We decided to leave.. Was looking forward to try their omu rice but not foreigner friendly, not recommended

Italian restaurant
Shutters, an Italian restaurant, offers delectable spare ribs and apple pie ala mode, which are highly enjoyable. Although the cost is slightly steep, the ambiance of the establishment and the scrumptious cuisine compensate for it. The venue presents a fantastic selection of apple pies accompanied by Ice Cream and various choices of toppings. Furthermore, their menu includes exceptional dishes such as pasta and spear ribs.
Good lunch menu options. The pork ribs are definitely the highlight of the menu. Tomato pasta was also good. It's the ideal place for a quick lunch
Stefano R — Google review
Had a late lunch with family walking towards the station. Not bad at all. Tried 3 flavours of the ribs, surprisingly salt & pepper was my favourite. The thickest and most tender pork spare ribs from a western restaurant I have tried.
Fei — Google review
The food is not good. Noddle is not fully cooked and is too salty. They recooked the noodles but is still hard to eat and this time it has no favorite. The meat is too fat. We order a set menu, which didn’t say it change by person. The final price comes out really high. We ending up paying 45$. It was very expensive. They have English menu. The English menu is shorter than the Japanese one. We don’t know Japanese so we don’t know the difference there. The price is very surprise us.

We came for lunch on a weekend without reservation. There is sufficient seating at the second floor. Our food took a while to come. Even though we ordered the same Mentaiko pasta with the person next to us, we received it 10 mins after them despite having arrived much earlier. The risotto was nice. Nothing fanciful. The food was OK! The staffs can only speak Japanese.

Hamburger restaurant
Cafe
Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Kichijoji, the Village Vanguard Diner is a delightful fusion of a bookstore and a burger haven. This unique spot not only serves up mouthwatering hamburgers but also boasts an enticing pancake option that’s simply divine at just 980 yen. With its eclectic atmosphere, it’s perfect for families too, offering a kids' menu and stroller storage for convenience.
Very good burger!!! Juicy and flavorful. The waitress is so nice and kawaii. Highly recommended!
Hong Z — Google review
We sometimes go to this burger restaurant when we are in Kichijoji. Their burgers are quite flavourful and of good quality among the burger restaurants in the area. I added cheese to the normal burger and went with some fried potatoes. What I liked about their fried potatoes was that they were made of real potatoes. Good texture and appropriately seasoned. There were many drinks on the menu as well.
Gladys H — Google review
Burger place not far from Kichijoji station. I saw the same shop in Shimo Kitazawe as well. People here are really nice. Unfortunately the burger didn’t really do it for me. The bacon was hardly cooked and the raw onion was almost as big a the bun. Quality was fine. Don’t get me wrong. But it‘s just not my kind of burger. I prefer smash. This one was the opposite of a minimalist smash burger.
Christian B — Google review
I love the interior feel of this place. They attempt to re-create a Western diner with Americana pieces, which sometimes feels a little cheesy, but I think it's endearing. Overall, still feels warm/inviting. The burger itself was good and massive, but for some reason doesn't still capture an American burger exactly the same way. I think the price was also a little steep too. But still worth coming back!
Paul Y — Google review
There was a queue all the way to the street but I could a get counter seat quickly, being alone. I got the avocado cheese single burger. I felt it was a good quality burger with subtle taste. There is no secret sauce or strong-taste patty but the ingredients come out well together without any being overwhelming. The potatoes push the subtlety a bit too far though and were rather bland, I had to add salt. The portion was rather small for the 2,020 yen price tag, I didn't really feel full. Edit: on my second visit, I tried the chili cheese burger which was more enjoyable, tasty and juicy, yet even more expensive, it could be 5 stars if it was a better value.
Bruno — Google review
The restaurant itself is nice and the atmosphere is great but... The burgers were nothing great. I got the cheddar pepper which is their number one item, it was kind of bland. They had good waffle fries though. Definitely worth checking out at least once if youre in the Kichijouji area but in my experience it's just meh.
Gianluca A — Google review
If you love street food with a unique concept, this place is for you. The menu is not for the fragile bellies as the sandwiches are really tasty and BIG (highly recommended for big eaters) It's better to take it on the go, but you can also eat inside with a particular setting: wall brick stairs (no tables). They were short on some stock, so better to come between noon and 1pm.
Simon K — Google review
Nice burger, fast service, friendly staff, a bit pricey. The burger came with a very tasty set of fried quarter potatoes. The bacon came in thick slices. When we visited, lunch menu was not available. Definitely recommended if you crave for a decent burger, but to me the cheddar & pepper was just okay. The place is not super large, but can accomodate around 8 tables.

Specialty Museums
Nestled in Koganei city, Western Tokyo, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a sprawling open-air historical theme park showcasing a diverse collection of Japanese structures from various periods. This museum serves as a preservation site for old buildings of cultural significance that could not be maintained in their original locations due to fires and air raids since the Edo period.
Really unique experience to see so many types of homes and shops over the ages, especially if you're interested in historical architecture. It's like going back in time or going to a movie set, but one you can kinda smell. Strongly recommend you bring/wear sandals or flip flops, as most homes require you to take off your shoes. Fair and tolerable weather preferred sinces it's quite outdoor. No need to make this a part of your whirlwind three days in Tokyo, but if you are here for a while, it's worth checking out. Tickets online or in person - super affordable, no wait, never too busy. Easy to get to and from by bus from the station.

Very informative experience. My wife who is an architect loved our trip here even though it was far from where we are staying in Tokyo. I am not sure if these are replicas or relocated reconstructions because the quality is insane if it is replicas. We spent 3 hours exploring and would have probably done more if we had the time.
Alexander R — Google review
This was probably one of my most favorite things in Tokyo. The museum was so fascinating and there was a ton of information about each building available in English. We learned so much about the Edo period and the various types of buildings in Japan at that time. The space for the museum is also beautiful. The museum itself is a bit far away from the main Tokyo city center but well worth the subway ride and it was a really lovely break from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.
Mandy C — Google review
Really lovely place to visit, would definitely recommend. We went on a tea ceremony event day, however all the same-day tickets were sold out by the time we got there, and you couldn't do advance reservation for the english speaking ones. Despite that, it was still a nice place to wander and learn about historic architecture. I walk past this museum a lot, so I'm glad I finally got to go inside! There are places in the museum serving food, which is helpful, but although they are good, I would reccomend eating beforehand, as they are very expensive...
Hercules W — Google review
A wonderful outside museum worth spending half a day exploring slowly. It’s not only photogenic but also a great place to learn about Japanese culture and history. Today I learned how to wrap with furoshiki here. The outdoor area is lush and peaceful, with many people sketching under the trees — such a charming cultural atmosphere.

Nature & Parks
Musashino Central Park, located in the north of Musashino City, is a spacious park that offers various recreational activities for children and adults alike. The park features multiple facilities such as basketball and tennis courts, an open field for sports like soccer or frisbee, and even a kids' playground.
Went here for the first time and I think it was a great park! It has a huge open field with grass, which is suitable for toddler to run around, and for the rest of family members to have a relaxing walk. There is also a small playground area. Nearby the entrance there is a bus stop to Kichijoji and Mitaka station.

Fantastic local park, which has a more open aspect than most parks of a similar size. There is a good running route around the perimeter (mixed surface of tarmac and bark). Three public toilets and lots of good places for kids.

this park is very huge flat land, formerly was an airstrip used by US during occupation period. hardly to find a piece of flat surface carpeted by lushly green grass, at far end corner has 2 base ball grounds, kids and families cheerfully play there in every weekend. Also, groups of people like to fly kites and paper planes. an informal running trail surrounding the grass field, which mostly covered by tree shadow, it feels comfortable to run a few laps. surely this park is a sources offering healthy good life. please, fine to enjoy it.
King L — Google review
This is a quite large park in northern Musashino City. On the edges of the park there are some trees and picnic tables which are great for taking a break sometime during the day. The center of the park is a large open field where people might play soccer or throw a frisbee or run around. Because there is so much open space without trees, this park is ideal in the spring and fall or on cool summer days. During the very hot summer months, you have to think carefully about getting enough sun protection if you're going to hang out here. There is no convenient nearby parking, so this park is ideal for people within walking or bicycle distance, and less desirable if you live farther away.

Shopping
Coppice Kichijoji Department B is an impressive high-rise shopping center that offers a diverse range of boutiques, popular brands, and restaurants. It also includes a kids' gym to keep the little ones entertained. The mall features an amazing selection of shops, from well-known high-end brands to specialized stores like bookshops and Kaldi. Additionally, there is a dedicated floor for cute girly items that young girls would adore.
This is a relatively new department store in Kichijoji, but it already has a classic, established feel. Located in the heart of Sun Road, it offers great convenience and accessibility. The store seamlessly blends into the vibrant atmosphere of the area, providing a wide range of shopping options and amenities. Despite its recent establishment, it feels like a long-standing part of the community. If you're in Kichijoji, this department store is a must-visit for its variety of shops and the convenience of its central location.

There are many shops in this multi story shopping building. Most of the are not notable, so browse them if you are in the area but don't bother a trip down if you aren't. The only exception is Kaldi Coffee, which is a chain import food shop, amd this branch is the biggest in Musashino. For local residents who want foreign groceries, this is the place to go.

Ramen restaurant
Ichiran Ramen Kichijōji is a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts, especially those who adore tonkotsu ramen served in a rich pork bone broth. Nestled in the basement, this informal eatery offers a unique dining experience where you can fully customize your bowl to suit your taste—whether it's adjusting the noodle firmness or adding extra garlic and spice. The ordering process is straightforward: patrons use a ticket machine that accepts various payment methods, including cash for additional toppings.
Yes! It's in the basement! Ticket machine establishment that accepts an assortment of wireless payment options and has language options for those with limited Japanese ability. Pick a seat, and the little bamboo shade will rise, presenting an options list for you to mark your preferences. Want more garlic? Less onions? Richer broth? Spicier? Noodle firmness and more. I know how I like my Ramen, and I drained the bowl, even though I wasn't super hungry. Even more additions can be ordered, cash only. If your not familiar, Matcha Almond Pudding is a Japanese take on flan, and quite yummy. Would definitely eat here again.

And spoiler alert you will also be part of ensuring the Ramen you get will be pretty unique! Definitely a not to be missed experience! 4th Sept 2025 7pm Line up to go inside and order from the vending machine that has few language to select After payment there is a note for you to choose the soup base taste, saltiness, condiments and spiciness as well as the tenderness of the noodle I choose the leas flavour & less saltiness just as i like the service was fast and you don’t get to see any service or chef behind the bamboo curtain you may make comment or order extra more if you wish
Maria W — Google review
Lined up down a set of stairs for about 20 minutes, which at first felt like a test of patience, but the wait moved surprisingly fast. Once inside, the whole experience felt unique...almost like stepping into a ramen ritual. You order from a machine, fill out a sheet circling your preferences (broth richness, noodle firmness, spice) & then sit in your own little cubicle where the ramen magically appears through a curtain. The tonkotsu broth was rich & delicious, the noodles perfectly cooked & the whole set-up made it easy to just focus on the food. It’s fun, quirky & very different from any ramen shop back home. Docking one star only because the price is a bit higher than some equally good ramen I’ve had elsewhere in Tokyo. Still, for the experience & quality, it’s absolutely worth trying at least once.

Rich broth and al dente ramen. Didn’t have to queue long if not for a big group of students who were in front of us. But the turnover of the diners are fast. This outlet only accept cash so come prepared. Operating hr is 24hr on Sat and Sun and 10am to 6am on other days.
Jessie C — Google review
Ordering is through a machine- you select buttons for the ramen you want and additional toppings; insert cash and get the tickets. Then you go inside , find a seat and give the tickets to staff through a window. Once seated, you get to select the softness of the ramen and the amount of spice you want. Ramen broth was rich, creamy and delicious. People eat their ramen and leave. This is not a place for socializing. Very affordable.

It’s definitely something to try at least once. I highly recommend for tourists, particularly if you’re traveling without children. It has a very cool and mysterious vibe when you walk in and your waitress greets you from behind a wall. It’s something I’ve never experienced before and honestly, kind of cool!! It’s almost like an anonymous ramen bar. They have instructions on English and draft beer! Overall I enjoyed the experience and food!

The experience at Heichinro in Kichijōji, a renowned Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong, was delightful. The establishment is well-known and offers an opportunity to savor a satisfying lunch or dinner. The interior decor exudes a sense of tradition and history, providing patrons with a nostalgic atmosphere. The view from the windows is pleasant and serene, enhancing the overall dining experience. Additionally, the restaurant provides attentive and efficient service.

We enjoyed delicious Chinese food with a course menu centered on seafood. The Shaoxing wine was also delicious. Perfect for birthdays and other small celebrations. In addition to the hall on the second floor, there are many private rooms on the third floor, which are convenient. The lunch course consisted of appetizers, soup, dim sum, shrimp, beef, fried rice, and dessert, and the portions were large enough to suit the Japanese palate. At lunchtime, you can enjoy small beers and wines (red and white) that go well with your food. The service is also attentive and I feel that it is a Heichinro after all. Maruhachi Seimenjo in Kichijoji is a convenient and reliable pasta shop that closes at 3:00 pm and sometimes runs out of stock. They offer a variety of items like gyoza skin, yakisoba, and oil soba which are highly useful. Although Takeda Seimen and Sato of Menchikatsu were favorites among locals, those who lost access to them have switched to Maruhachi Seimenjo.
(Translated by Google) Tokyo for the first time in 30 years Visited early on the morning of July 28, 2025, before returning to my hometown. Two days before, I ate abura soba at Chin Chin Tei in Musashi-Sakai for the first time in 45 years. 😊 I considered taking out Chin Chin Tei's abura soba, but considering my plans for the last day and the midsummer weather, I decided it would be better to have this abura soba shipped to my home, considering the cost-effectiveness. I purchased 10 servings of abura soba, two packets of fresh Japanese soba noodles, and three bottles of Takao no Sato Mentsuyu, and requested local shipping. It arrived at my home in Kyushu by Yu-Pack in the morning of July 30. It was delivered refrigerated. 😊 Excellent value for money. 😊 I'll write my impressions after eating everything. 😊 I tried making abura soba. It looks very different from Chin Chin Tei's, but 😅 The flavor seemed weaker than Chin Chin Tei's. The basic flavor is different, but the noodles are still delicious. 😊 The fresh soba noodles were also delicious. 😊 The noodle broth wasn't sweet, so it reminded me of Tokyo-style cold soba noodles. 😊 Thank you for the meal.

If you say the noodles you want to buy at the small window, they will arrange them for you on the spot and you can purchase them. So, it makes sense that you would want to buy the abura soba noodles from that famous restaurant. Moreover, it comes with the original abura soba sauce. Boil the noodles, add your favorite toppings, mix with this sauce, and it's done. For first-time users, a guidebook on how to make abura soba is also included if you request it, so you can make it without any mistakes. Is it enough for lunch for a family of four? Purchased 5 servings (180 yen x 5 meals = 900 yen). I bought green onions and garlic at a local greengrocer, and chashu pork at the supermarket to use as toppings. As expected, the noodles are completely different. It's lively and vibrant. The boiling time was 6-7 minutes, 6:30 seconds, but personally I think 6 minutes is fine. Levechi can be made at home with the rich aroma of lard and noodles. delicious. Nowadays, it costs 300 yen to buy abura soba with a cup of ramen, so I no longer have the desire to buy and eat it. In addition to abura soba, we have a variety of noodles such as ramen, pasta, and udon. Wonton wrappers used to be sold to Eguchi-san, a legendary shop in Mitaka, and now Mr. Takao and Mr. Shimorenjaku, who are in the Eguchi-san lineage, also use them. Apparently they sell noodles wholesale to the Tama area, but they also sell them for takeout. They sell udon, Chinese noodles (with soup), pasta (sauce sold separately), soba, abura soba (with sauce), etc. It looks like they also sell abura soba online. (Chinese noodles: tomato soup) 120 yen (incl.) per ball, soup included. You can choose your favorite soup. The noodles will be cooked in 2 minutes. I bought arugula, baby leaves, cut vegetables for stir-fry, sweet potatoes, mozzarella cheese, thick-sliced bacon, basil sausage, and frozen yakimeshi at the supermarket. Aside from looking good, it turned out very delicious. (Linguine: Arrabbiata) 1 ball is 110 yen (included), sauce sold separately (150 yen for Arrabbiata). The noodles will be cooked in about 3 to 4 minutes. I overdid it when I made Chinese noodles, so I just used boiled eggs. Finished with cheese, black pepper, and thyme. The noodles are good, but the sauce has a ready-to-eat taste. This is enough for lunch, but if you were to eat it for dinner, I thought it would be much more authentic if you opened the retort in a pot and added stir-fried ground meat and liver paste. Otherwise, it would be better to buy or make the sauce separately. (Abura soba: Chinese noodles/thick noodles) 1 ball 170 yen (included) with sauce The noodles will be cooked in about 5 to 6 minutes. I could have eaten it as abura soba, but I don't like oil, so I added alcohol and sauce (worcestershire, otafuku, ketchup) to half of the abura soba sauce (without adding the hardened oil), brought it to a boil, and then blackened it. I added pepper and made it into yakisoba sauce. Is it okay to cook my own bad food? I'd rather eat it at a restaurant. Tonkatsu restaurant
Matsunoya, a superb eatery for Tonkatsu at an affordable price, offers diverse selections like katsu curry, a popular preference. The turnaround time is consistently speedy upon submitting your food ticket obtained from the English-option kiosk. At about 700 yen per meal, it is an unbeatable deal. Such unmatched value cannot be found elsewhere in the mentioned location.
This place is great for Tonkatsu and at a very reasonable price. They have different options including katsu curry which is my usual choice. Always quick turn around time to getting your food once you submit your food ticket, which you obtain from the kiosk (has English option). A good meal can cost you about 700 yen. You won't find anything like that in the US.

Shopping mall
Shopping
Atre Kichijoji is a spacious and elegant shopping center located upstairs at Jixiang Temple Station. It offers a wide range of amenities, including bookstores, coffee shops, currency exchange services, clothing stores, and souvenir shops. Visitors can also enjoy food shopping and dining at the sushi restaurant on the lower floor.
Great place to pick up some snacks or lunch to eat at the nearby Inokashira Park- a lovely walk to Ghibli Museum. Clean washrooms with multiple stalls
Gigi L — Google review
Walking through this mall feels like wandering into a temple of middle-class aspiration: sleek, curated & just the right mix of practical & indulgent. You’ve got your daily staples (groceries, clothing, accessories), but then boom...you stumble across a L’Occitane & suddenly you’re rationalizing why a $40 hand cream is “self-care” & not financial sabotage. The layout is classic Tokyo retail: compact but efficient, vertical rather than sprawling, with just enough polish to make you feel like you’re in on a secret that everyone already knows. It’s not the chaotic consumer assault of Shibuya or Shinjuku...No, this is Kichijoji, after all. The vibe is more relaxed, more local, more we live here, not just pass through. What I loved: the variety of shops keeps you engaged without being overwhelming. You can pick up a pastry, wander into a bookstore & grab a French luxury brand moisturizer within the same five-minute orbit. It’s the kind of place where “just browsing” somehow translates into walking out with a bag. atré Kichijoji isn’t going to blow your mind, but it nails something rarer...it makes shopping feel civilized. You leave lighter in the wallet but oddly happier, which is basically the definition of retail success.

Large and bright shopping mall/area with a wide variety of shops and restaurants/cafe within station. Great place to wander if you arrive early to meet someone and have spare time. Doesn't feel dark or crammed even though it is positioned within a long and narrow area of land along the JR station area.

I particularly like this Atre. It's quite narrow, but some areas are surprisingly spacious. It has a couple sections (it's best to ask the conceriage and take a map!) and I think it's fun to look around especially on a rainy day. It has everything, a grocery store with a butcher and fish market, glasses/photo stores, lingerie stores, a pharmacy, cafes, restaurants, a bookstore, an imported foods store, an organic food shop, and (of course) Starbucks. Not wheelchair friendly! There is a ramp and an elevator somewhere, but for baby strollers and wheelchairs, people will give you dirty looks.

Absolutely loved this shopping centre in Kichijoji during an extended stay. It was my local for food shopping and especially the wonderful must visit sushi restaurant in the lower floor. Always oversubscribed but has a very efficient automatic booking system. Sushi prepared freshly in front of you by several sushi chefs. The complimentary egg appetiser was Oishi! A hot egg custard with a touch of mushroom, prawn, a tiny bit of edamame bean & sliver of chives served in a tiny cup. The Mango sorbet is the softest, most delicate and flavoursome sorbet I have tasted on earth. However, all food ordered have to be consumed in-house, no doggie bags allowed! No eyes bigger than your belly unless you are prepared to leave it. Atre is also close enough to the famed delicious Steak House Satou where the queues for the meatballs are long but worth it. A must to visit! This shopping centre holds the finest Kichijoji offers, in terms of souvenir food gifts, patisserie, boutiques, cafes, even a Gong Cha (a bubble tea outlet), a Cinnabon (an unforgettable aroma wafting through the air of some NY air terminal) and much, much more!

The Musashino Public Hall, although an antiquated venue, boasts easily visible seating arrangements that provide comfort for extended periods. (Translated by Google) It is very close, about a 5-minute walk from Kichijoji Station towards Inokashira Park. The facility opened in January 1964 and is quite old. Therefore, the renovation work will be carried out from March 2026 to October 2027. Since it will be about a year and a half, the main work will be earthquake resistance and fire prevention equipment, toilet renovation (the smell from the drainage pipes is a concern), and interior renovation of the stage, seats, air conditioning, etc. Considering the location and environment, a hall of the same size as the large hall of Musashino Civic Cultural Center (25 minutes walk from the station, 10 minutes by bus) with 1600 to 1800 seats would be good, but unfortunately it is not possible due to the site area. A small hall with 350 seats with a strong Showa-era feel. As it is old, the seats are narrow. Fortunately, the space in front and behind is not too narrow, but it is difficult for people already seated to pass by unless they stand up. It is not as narrow as Fujisawa Civic Hall (a hall where it is extremely difficult to listen). There are also balcony seats on the left and right, but if you sit on the aisle side (wall side), you have an obstructed view of the stage. As for the acoustics, there is almost no reverberation, and it feels like only the sounds of the instruments reach your ears. When it rains, you can hear the rain hitting the stage quite loudly. If there is thunder, you will probably hear it that way. It would be nice if the hall was transformed into something at least like the Musashino Civic Cultural Center Small Hall after renovation... Kichijoji Theatre is a delightful venue that offers an engaging experience for theatergoers. The interior features unique chairs crafted from flexible mesh material, ensuring comfort even during extended performances. With its steeply tiered seating arrangement, every audience member enjoys unobstructed views of the stage. While first-time visitors may find the directions from the station a bit tricky, regular attendees appreciate its charm and ease of access.

Café Zenon is a unique and popular spot that seamlessly combines a daytime café with a lively grill bar in the evenings. The café prides itself on its creative approach to latte art, featuring whimsical designs such as Totoro, Kiki's cat Jiji, giraffes, birds, and classic hearts. The establishment also showcases original artworks from local artists and manga art while offering an array of manga to read and merchandise for sale.
Cafe Zenon had a very interesting interior decorated with various anime memorabilia and even a life size statue of Kenshiro of Fish of the Northstar fame standing by their entrance. Staff seemed to be under a bit of pressure by the rush of people that kept flowing into the cafe however the seating areas (two floors for patrons and a seperate smoking room) were very comfortable and they offer bins which you may place your belongings. Popular with the young and trendy people of the equally trendy area just steps away from Kichijouji station, this cafe has a wide variety of drink items including alcohic beverages are on their menu as are various desserts and brunch items available as well. Would definately come return to study some Japanese at this fun cafe.

Very nice interior to the spacious and modern restaurant space. The menu didn’t seem to have many options that didn’t include meat so we checked with the server. Told them I’m a vegetarian and that I’d like dishes without any meat. Was told that the only item on the mains menu which didn’t include any meat was a root vegetable salad. The other options were side dishes so I picked the salad. Dish was brought out with a soup and some bread. Put my spoon into the soup to check what it was and saw large pieces of sliced ham. Called the server over and had this conversation. “I asked for a dish without meat, I’m a vegetarian and this soup has meat in it” “yes, it’s meat can you not eat meat?” The salad was tasty enough but felt deeply frustrated at specifically asking for food without meat and being served ham. We won’t come back here again.

One of the most famous cafes in Kichijoji. It’s spacious enough so that you won’t have to wait for long, unlike other cafes in the area. I ordered a cake set for about 1,000yen, which was alright. They have a rule that you can only stay there for 2hours.
Juri R — Google review
Food and environment was mid, service was not good at all. The prices are all very high (ended up paying around 2000 yen for a ketchup pasta dish, which was really not worth it). There's a charge of 330 yen for sitting inside or ordering after 8 or something, I didn't understand what the server said in Japanese. The worst part is that they did not let me put my food in a to-go container even though I brought my own container!! That might be a common ish thing in Japan that sounds dumb to me as a foreigner. But at that point, I was already annoyed with the place so I just paid and went.

The decor is cool and it’s pretty spacious. Some of the food is great and some of it’s pretty mediocre and overpriced. The service is quite bad, you’re seriously only going to have ONE server for the whole restaurant? Also, there’s no point having a segregated area for smoking when it’s just a short wall and no ceiling with complete ineffective ventilation. I was seated next to the smoking section and had to move.
Sophie — Google review
I read a lot of reviews about this restaurant. The foods are disappointing. Not like newly cooked. Taste is not good. Service here isn’t efficient. Not good at table management. Staff isn’t friendly. The decoration isn’t that great. I thought it would have been more Manga theme.

Tongue restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Negishi is a popular eatery in Kichijoji, known for its delectable meat dishes. Whether it's lunch or dinner, this place caters to the cravings of meat lovers. Although it can get busy during peak hours, the waiting time remains manageable. One must-try option on their menu is the Blucky set meal, which features succulent American beef and costs around 1,600 yen.
(Translated by Google) The restaurant is located in the basement. There are counter seats and table seats. It's easy for women to come in alone. The restaurant is clean and the service is very good. The food is served quickly and I'm very satisfied. I always order the negishi set. It comes with two thick slices of white protein, two thin slices of white protein, and two slices of red protein. It comes with oxtail soup, miso nanban, pickles, grated yam, and barley rice. You can have as much barley rice as you want. All the tongues are delicious, but personally I like the thick-sliced white protein the best! Even though it's thickly sliced, it's soft, has a nice elasticity, and is really delicious! It goes really well with barley rice. In addition to the tongue, the grated yam and oxtail soup are also delicious. It's a bit of a splurge on the price when eating out, but it's a restaurant I'd like to visit again when I'm craving negishi!

I will be honest and say that this is still average if you compare it to any place in Sendai, were gyutan is very popular. However, it is a good attempt to it and very convenient in Tokyo. Prices are similar and I think the sizes are smaller than those up north, but the taste was good, and the service was kind and quick enough. It looks like this branch in Kichijoji gets very busy during the weekends, but we were lucky to find a table without having to wait.

One of my staples in Kichijoji, a place I go to eat every now and then, Negishi is for the meat lover. Suitable for either lunch or dinner and while at times it can be crowded (especially around lunch time), the wait times never gets out of hand. My go to here is the Blucky set meal, fatty american beef. It sets you back about ¥1,600 and includes oxtail and green onions soup, a bowl of tororo, pickles and a healthy size bowl of rice. The meat is always very flavourful and tasty, the service is good and if you are a non-japanese speaker they have a english meny available, both in the restaurant and on their webpage, making it easy to scout ahead. If you are in the Kichijoji area, I’d recommend a visit!

(Translated by Google) If you want to eat reliable beef tongue in Kichijoji, go to Negishi! Relaxing meal near the station and in a calm space Negishi Kichijoji Ekimae branch is conveniently located within a 1-minute walk from the south exit of Kichijoji Station, just to the left. Once you find the signboard, go down the stairs leading to the basement and you will find the store. Although it's underground, the inside of the store is surprisingly spacious and bright, with soothing jazz music playing in the background, giving you the feeling of being at your usual Negishi restaurant. This time, I came with a companion who was visiting Negishi for the first time. After much deliberation, I ordered the affordable ``Marune Set'' and the ``Wanpaku Set,'' which allows you to sample different types of meat little by little. Both come with free refills of barley rice and grated yam, making you feel completely satisfied. After trying out multiple types and comparing them, I was once again struck by the stability of beef tongue. It has a strong flavor and texture, and you will never get tired of it no matter how many times you eat it. My companion seemed satisfied, saying, ``Next time, I want to order the beef tongue as a main dish.'' I visited around 4pm, between lunch and dinner, so there weren't many customers, so it was very quiet and comfortable. We recommend visiting outside of peak hours so you can have a more relaxing time. Since it's an underground store, the signal for smartphones was a little unstable, but there was free Wi-Fi so it wasn't a problem. Perfect for a short break or a solo meal. By the way, in Kichijoji, there is also a "Negishi Sunroad store" in the Sunroad shopping district on the north exit side, but the one in front of the station seems to be relatively empty. This is the place to go if you want to have a relaxing meal near the south exit. Pizzeria GG is a casual neighborhood restaurant located in a basement near Inokashira Park. The cozy eatery offers authentic and affordable Naples-style pizza with a clear American influence. Despite its unconventional toppings like fries and wieners on the Americano pie, the prices are reasonable without compromising on quality. The seating arrangement provides a view of the kitchen and its impressive oven, adding to the dining experience.
One of the best pizzas in Tokyo! We went for lunch and although it was full, they managed to seat us in about 10 minutes. All of the food came quickly. The pizzas were really good, with the tomato sauce standing out specifically. They had a good balance of crust thickness and ingredients. The place is rather small so it can feel a bit crammed. The staff was polite and attentive. Overall it is a bit pricier than other places but worth it

I saw that it was said that it was the third-ranked Neapolitan pizza in the world, so I went there for its fame. After experiencing it, the pizza is 3.5 stars, and I don't want to give it even one star if the service can. There were not many people that day, with a total of three to four tables of guests. In the later stage of our meal, there was obviously no finished salad on the plate. A waitress came over and signaled to remove the plate. I understood that she was driving away the guests. I was not angry. I picked up the fork and began to finish the remaining salad quickly, so the waitress was about to take away the plate. Unexpectedly, the waitress slipped and the plate fell on the table, making a loud noise. However, the merchant did not express any apology. I think she also realized that this was very rude and rude. I'm sorry that this happened in Japan! It's really hard to describe the service. It's a terrible experience!!!

Tokyo has the issue of having a lot of average pizzerias. Out of ~20 pizzerias this is one of the best I have found. This is authentic. Tiramisu and espresso are also authentic. Excellent experience, strong recommend.

You hear a lot of the same names repeated within the Tokyo pizzeria scene, many them located near the Meguro or Minato areas (ahem). But this one seems to fly under the radar for most tourists, but I think locals know this place well. I think GG's margherita pizza competes for the best in the city. They have a classic stone oven, which creates that unmistakable rustic, fire-charred crust. The only thing is, they're a little pricey, maybe even a little more so than the other popular pizzerias.

Friendly staff who speak english well, there is a menu in english too if needed. If the restaurant is full, you can add your name and phone number on the list and they will call you when your table is ready, really convenient! A must have in Tokyo!

Highly recommended ! If you are in Kichijoji you have to try this !!! Come early to avoid disappointment ! Don't be surprised when you see people queueing as early as 2h before they open. There is a reason for it 🤣 😜 If you like German style bread ( thick and chewy) than you will love this pizza place ! The dough smells like bread and is thick , tender and chewy. The pizza had mozzarella cheese filling and created a real dramatic flavor experience. Reservation for lunch is not possible, but you will be rewarded with a drink and a mini desert. There are 30+ seats and the attentive staff will be happy to help you choose the right one :-) Come for dinner if you like it quiet or want to bring someone special ! Last order is around 22:00, so there is plenty of time to make your way through the rich menu.

Very cool Shinto Shrine near Kichijoji station. There are also some smaller shrines here too. This place is easy to find and on a busy city street. Not sure about parking. Check it out if you’re in the neighborhood.
Daniel S — Google review
Medium sized Shinto Shrine, supporting some of the local Kichioji matsuris, like the Kichijoji Aki Matsuri in September. It has its own medium sized mikoshi, and during the matsuris, a number of food yatais and children's game booths, but can become quite crowded as there is just the one walking path which goes to the shrine. Unfortunately, during the matsuris, it seems the office for goshuin stamps is closed.

Restaurant
Hattifnatt is a whimsical and enchanting cafe located in Kichijoji, Japan. Upon entering through a small door and ascending a narrow staircase, visitors are transported into a fairytale-like setting adorned with charming illustrations of animals and children. The unique artwork throughout the three floors was created by Japanese artist duo Marini Monteany. The cafe's signature dish is taco rice, which is delivered from the ground floor kitchen to the upper levels via a chute.
Really damn cute, front door is tiny so when you enter it feels like a children’s fairytale. Art work is mesmerizing. Food and coffee also really delicious.

Sep 7, 2025 Have you been to a store that’s so smug about its popularity that it treats customers lightly, like an inconvenience? That’s exactly what this café felt like. At the end of the day, staff are just staff (like come on, know your place), and customers are the ones paying to keep the business alive. We visited at 3pm on a Sunday. It was relatively crowded but we got in after about a 10-minute wait. We waited patiently on the pavement opposite the entrance, as instructed, when suddenly the door swung open on its own, because it was rickety and not closed properly. I went to check if our turn had come, but the staff just stared at me weirdly as if I was being too impatient to enter or intrusive. That wasn’t the case and it left a poor first impression. Once inside, we were directed to the loft area, which was accessible by a very steep staircase and you have to take off your shoes and bring them with you -- pretty confusing. Since it was our first time and they didn't lead us there but only instructed verbally, we didn’t immediately know where to go, and the staff seemed rather impatient with us. The space itself was cramped but cute. However, the AC blasted directly onto my friend, while tables below in the loft were uncomfortably warm. The layout felt poorly designed. We ordered two drinks and a cake, which took an unbelievable 45 minutes to arrive for such simple dishes. The cake didn’t feel freshly baked—it was just a small lukewarm sponge with some macaron paste on top. The drinks were similarly very average. My hot caramel latte came with mushroom latte art and had a faint mushroom taste, which was interesting. We later ordered fries, which came out faster. Bill was ¥3,400 for 2 people. Cake can't be ordered on its own but must come with a drink or a dish. We both ordered drinks anyways so it's not a problem, but I think this is pretty ridiculous as the cake isn't cheap at already ¥800-900 on its own. On the 2F below the loft, I noticed a kitchen lift that sent food from the kitchen up to the waitstaff. While it reduced the need for staff to carry items from 1F to 2F, it didn’t seem to speed up service. Orders still took far too long. In the end, I suppose this is the trade-off for visiting a whimsical, quirkily designed café. The colorful walls on the second floor were pretty, but seating options seemed to depend on where staff directed you—either at a regular table on the 2F or the wooden loft space. Debating if I should leave 2 or 3 stars but I left 3 because the design is cute. Unfortunately, the poor service and staff attitude outweighed the charm, and I wouldn’t return or recommend unless you really like the whimsical aesthetic.

This place is tremendously cute! Would be particularly great for anyone traveling with kids. Service offered me an English menu and I could order in English. Very friendly service. Immensely cosy spot to take a break from sightseeing. They gave me a bonus little “Valentine” sweet that is shaped as a puppy head, and that little bit of cuteness is so lovely it makes me want to tear up at how lovely and sweet humans can make the world! And the latte art on my matcha latte is top-notch.

Really fun place to check out. It's quite tiny even beyond the miniature front door, so expect to be uncomfortable if you're on the taller side. However the atmosphere is fantastic and the food and drinks are good. Most of the meat options are soy-based.

Located on the 7th floor, Kichijoji Art Museum offers rotating exhibitions and a diverse collection of serious and colorful artworks. It's a great spot for art enthusiasts looking to spend some free time in the district of Kichijoji. The minimal entry fee makes it worth visiting, especially for those seeking an alternative to shopping. Despite its small size, the museum blends modern and traditional arts, showcasing fantastic artists.

Steak & Hamburg 🥩🐄 @nikugaoka Nikugaoka is located on the 1st floor of the same building which houses Nikuyama, their sister restaurant which is famed for its yakiniku tasting course. 🍖🍗 The 2 main attractions were the steak & hamburg dishes - so went for a combination of both!😅Rib Roast (200g) & hamburg (100g) with Yuzu cream sauce, plus miso soup & rice set. 🥣🍚 The rib roast steak (Australian grass fed beef) had an amazing texture, tenderness & strong umami with each bite. Compared to many other restaurants, the quality was much better & great value. 🉐 The hamburg was extremely good 100% pure wagyu. Immediately after ordering, I saw the chef take the ground beef from the refrigerator & begin expertly slapping and moulding it into shape with his hands, like a world-class bartender making a speciality cocktail. 🤲🏼👏🏼🙌🏼 The meat was so delicious, with juices flowing after cutting into it with a knife. The yuzu cream sauce was excellent - soft & rich initially, before the spice hits your tongue after a few seconds, and was a great match for the hamburg. 😋 Miso soup was hearty, containing large spring onions and eggplant, and the rice was the perfect companion to the meat and vegetables (roast potatoes & shishito pepper). 🧅🍆🥔🫑 Asking for a refill of rice, the owner Yokozeki-san kindly gave me some complimentary Nikuyama curry (which contains cut-offs of A5 grade beef) 😳 The deep umami and the melt-in-your-mouth beef was amazing, one of the richest curries I have ever tasted. 💯🥇 I had a great discussion about the current state of restaurants in Tokyo/Kichijoji and how it is vital for us to continue supporting our local businesses. 📣🤗🤝🍽 Nikugaoka is a hidden gem in Kichijoji, and does the best hamburg by far, for an amazing price too! They also offer takeout food & alcohol, with some items (hamburgers, etc.) exclusively available got takeout only. 🥡🍔🍱 Finally, a secret tip for people who want to try the Nikuyama menu but cannot get a reservation - Nikugaoka offers the exact same menu & cuts of meat, but without the 2-3 month wait! 🤩😎 Please contact them for more details and take advantage of this awesome opportunity. ☎️📧

Each dish is prepared without chemical seasonings, ensuring an authentic taste that keeps patrons coming back for more—especially the addictive chewy pho.
My wife and I are regular customers and we wonder if we’d even be able to find pho this good in Vietnam! Our favorite is the beef tendon pho. Incredible flavor! I like to order some free chilis, lemon and sriracha on the side too. I also recommend a little bit of fish sauce and vinegar to add to the umami. Taste the broth first though, that is the way. Also, there is another location in Shimokita which is also excellent!

Restaurant
Harukiya Ogikubo Honten is a renowned ramen shop in Tokyo that has been serving its signature Tokyo-style ramen for over 60 years. Established in 1949, it is considered the birthplace of Tokyo ramen. The small restaurant with only eight seats is known for its quick service as patrons slurp down their bowls of ramen within minutes. The chicken stock and shoyu-based broth are infused with dried fish flavors, offering a unique taste experience.
Excellent food, fast service and friendly staff. Definitely worth coming to. Even our child finished all the noodles :)
D. O — Google review
A ramen shop that has lasted the test of time in Ogikubo. Super classic shoyu recipe that hasn’t changed one bit with a subtlety that is either hated or well appreciated. The strong use of lard oil is noted as your tongue gets burnt within the first minute. Niboshi, kelp, shiitake are present in the soup. Noodles are chewy and very enjoyable and the charsiu, while dry looking at first, is cooked to perfection. The wonton and menma are unremarkable. I recommend the charsiu-men or simply, the regular chuuka soba is good to satiate, particularly with the higher pricing.

Historic ramen from the 1940's. Order by touchscreen outside and pay by credit card etc is accepted. Ordered the wanton chashu shoyu ramen 1800円。The broth was very good, lots of chicken fat umami. Chashu was lean meat, wontons were pretty good as well but not much meat in these. The overall volume was massive but about right for the price. Very open kitchen so you can watch the master cook. Overall a cool experience and enjoyed eating history!

I’m not the biggest fan of ramen but I appreciate the flavour of the broth, the chewiness of the noodles and the soft pork. Lots of locals eat there. The line moves pretty fast. Great service here. They’re always refilling water and turning over tables quickly

I got the large bowl; ¥1,500, with chashu pork and bamboo shoots. Let’s start with the broth — it’s a soy-based broth with seasonings, pork, and fish (baby sardines, actually) somewhere in there. There is a bit of oil on top. It’s a balanced broth — can’t say it’s thin or rich, but I drank every drop of it. The broth entertained the taste buds without overpowering it. Flavorful and nourishing. The pork is lean, and lightly-seasoned. It’s quite bland, actually, but not dry. It is easy to bite and quite easy to chew — not stringy at all. The texture reminds me of boiled pork. The bamboo shoots are superb. Sweet and soy. It’s the strong flavor in the bowl you’ll need if you want a kick on your taste buds. I guess this is the balancer for the rather bland pork. And the star — the hand-made noodles. They’re perfect. Chewy, al dente, and they take in the broth flavor really well! This is one of the best ramen bowls I ever had. No wonder they’re still here after 60 years. I will be back.

A post-war ramen shop serving the famous Ogikubo-style fish-base ramen noodles. A welcome respite from the ubiquitous tonkotsu in simple surrounds.

broth too oily or salty, but the chasui is hearty thick.
