Darlington Hippodrome, originally opened in 1907 as the Darlington Civic Theater, has been recently refurbished to its former glory. This grand turn-of-the-century building now hosts a variety of performances including plays, opera, comedy, music, dance and pantomime for both local and touring productions. The interior is stunning and provides a warm and comfortable atmosphere that feels traditional and steeped in history.
Horrible histories Egypt was incredible. What an experience. My four year really enjoyed it. The second half in 3d was a fun surprise, a few little jumps that my son found funny. The three actors were spectacular and performed wonderfully. All credit to them for keeping a four yr old engaged for nearly 2 hours. The theatre is well kept, spacious, comfy seats. Excellent all round

Went to watch Red Hot and Ready, bars were very busy downstairs but all the staff were real friendly and working as fast as they could, our seats were in the upper circle, we could see most of the show, all in all very good
Daniel J — Google review
Went to see Susie Dent, parking was close by, easy entry and fast, seats located straight away with little help. Half time went for usual cigarette/toilet/bar, they need a bin outside that's my only gripe, the service was fast and cost of drinks/snacks same as anywhere else. Brilliant show, if you get a chance to see Susie DO! Interesting and funny.

Great theatre in Darlington. Went to see Spitfire Girls which was very good. The theatre has recently been refurbished (used to be the Civic) and is very nice.
Claire B — Google review
Loads of parking nearby, really friendly and efficient staff. We sat in the Stalls, L15 & L16 and the view was perfect 👌🏻 I don't think anyone will have a poor view from any seat in the Stalls though as it is slightly sloped. Seats are quite small and it's snug once you're in..but not uncomfortable 🙂
Erica C — Google review
Beautiful venue. We were up in the gods yet the sound was really good and so was the view. Great night
Pete W — Google review
We visited to see Q the Music, a James Bond music themed orchestra. Great sounds and unlimited views made it a wonderful occasion. Will go again.
Paul W — Google review
Went to tonight to see Heather's the musical. Slight issue with the tickets. They hadn't come through. However, when I emailed the venue this morning, they issued the tickets immediately via email, so the customer service was super quick! Parking was easy and signposted. The venue is lovely from the outside, and it looks very modern. Inside is very cosy and just the right size for smaller acts / performances to make it lovely and intimate! Prices weren't sky high, too. They even served coffee inside. They accepted both cash and card payments which is rare!! Staff are very friendly and helpful and plenty of toilet facilities on site. During the interval we were allowed outside.

In addition to hosting live gigs, it also features regular film screenings and comedy clubs. Visitors praise the impeccable sound quality, spacious bar area, and friendly staff. I've seen two bands here so far, and both nights were fantastic. It’s a brilliant venue with a great atmosphere and an impressive diversity of music on offer. The service has been consistently good too — friendly staff and well-organised events. Can’t wait for the next gig!

Paul G — Google review
It's one of the great venues in the North East. The sound is impeccable. The bar area is spacious too. The staff are friendly and helpful. Totally professionally ran. June Patrice Daly looked after our every need including sorting out a back line so everything ran smoothly. All the bands loved it and we will do it again next year on Saturday, 16th November, 2024. This is someone who has promoted 142 gigs in just over 13 years mainly in Middlesbrough and Stockton on Tees. We live in Marske by the Sea and wish it was closer as we would definitely promote there more often.

Located in Darlington, the Cornmill Shopping Centre is a small but vibrant indoor mall that offers a variety of shops and dining options. With two storeys and ample space, it provides a pleasant shopping experience with elevator and escalator access. The center also boasts clean facilities, including well-maintained toilets. Visitors appreciate the presence of security guards, creating a safe environment for all shoppers. Additionally, its central location makes it easily accessible by public transportation.
Some good shops some massage chairs and a pick up point for parcels, also Wheelchair accessible, has clean public toilets with a lift has a lift to access second floor. Indoor cafe which always smells of freshly roasted coffee, about fourteen shops in the building.

For such a small shopping centre there isn't that many empty shops like others in the region which is very good to see, but I suspect Primark is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. What would be a boost is plenty of seating in front of the big clothing shops. This would let those who want to wait outside do so without complaining to their shopping partners, which would allow more time for shopping without feeling guilty.

I visited Vision Express approx 3 weeks ago to have eyes tested and purchase new glasses. I visited again yesterday with my Son for his eye test. He has never had his eyes tested and was a first for him. The eye test was very extensive and the Optician explained every step of the procedure as he has a few issues with his eyes. He was able to spend as much time as he wanted selecting frames and the young lady explained the next step of procedure. From start to finish all staff were very helpful, courteous, explained everything and very friendly and put my son at ease. Would highly recommend Vision Express in The Cornmill in Darlington.

There were a number of empty units in the shopping centre but it also had some lovely shops too. It was a drizzly day so it was nice to shelter from the rain in an indoor shopping centre. There were cafes and clothes shops and surprisingly there was no queue for Primark. There were sweet social spaces including the befriending bench sponsored by Age UK.

Food court
Darlington Covered Market is a historic market with a rich heritage dating back to medieval times. The Grade II listed Victorian Market Hall, built in 1860, offers an array of fresh local produce including fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and locally reared meats. In addition to the traditional market stalls, there's a new street food court featuring diverse culinary options from German and Cypriot to Italian and burgers. Visitors can also enjoy an indoor dining experience with a variety of foods available.
This is a lovely traditional covered market where the architecture, roofing and lighting adds to the atmosphere. It is being overhauled so didn't have as many stalls as it usually has but the ones that were there had good quality produce. The stallholders have set up lovely displays of their wares that were pleasing to the eye and were sure to tempt.
Maria C — Google review
Went into market to look at options to eat, accosted by jobsworth forced out of market because I had a bottled drink of pop in my hand, clearly the market wants to continue to struggle financially, awful atmosphere half the stalls shut and abandoned anyway. Diabetic partner told she can’t bring a drink in either despite her medical condition, really great disability awareness from council employees.
Denver G — Google review
The food and drink is quite expensive, there are certainly places to eat in town that are better value for money. I see the vision, I've been to some great food halls over the years, but the variety isn't there and the price point isn't right for the town. Sadly most of the decent market stalls moved out years ago so not that great for shopping any more. However, there are public toilets in here that are free to use, a rarity in Darlington nowadays. They are open fairly late.
Louise T — Google review
Darlington Borough Council is putting on a wealth of events to attract families to the centre, i.e., Darlington by the sea, dinosaur day, misfit market, Pride etc There are plenty of food options around and in the market hall.

Ate and drank at the 'Taste of Budapest', 'Taste of Thailand' and the 'Market Tap' and throughly enjoyed them all. Only place open past 6pm and stumbled across it, appears they do events and music.

Went in not much open so we decided to have a German sausage. So after much consultation with the wife we decided on a three sausage platter bratwurst and a currywurst and also are Frankfurt with bread German sauce and mustard with a side of sauerkraut. After confusion on my order we got 3 bratwurst with tomato sauce and American mustard in hot dog buns if you're going to do authentic German bratwurst there need to get it right. For the price was very disappointed on watching the staff there was many confusions with orders.

It's a great spot for a casual meal or drink. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive. A standout feature is that they are dog-friendly, making it a great place to bring your furry friend. The food is also delicious, with a good selection of dishes to choose from.

Always loved this place. However, it needs a full refurbished. It really is dirty now. I don’t think it gets cleaned tbh. Same kids crayon left on the floor was still there 5 weeks later. Also, the kids behind the bar are all over the place when busy. The owners need to spend on this place or people will go elsewhere.

Lovely rooftop lunch in the sun with a beer and a sandwich. Didn’t have long to wait for the foot to come after ordering and they even did us table service. Will definitely be back again on the next sunny weekend.

Hash is always mint. The menu is limited, but you know the chefs are going to cook everything really well, with the highest quality ingredients. I recommend the shawarma, or the hot dogs. Drinks are great too, with the coffee being very well made.

Lovely lunch here yesterday. Quiet relaxed ambience, friendly staff and delicious food. We had the hot dog and a fish finger sandwich, both cooked to order and served piping hot, as a bonus they even had apple juice for my daughter, which we find is rare. The restaurant is spotlessly clean, and overall this was a lovely, relaxing lunch experience, we will definitely be back.👏👏

Can't yet - yet!- comment on the food, but this is an excellent spot. Had the most amazing espresso martini, made with actual espresso, for a perfectly reasonable sum. Good selection of music, nice atmosphere, and the staff are great, really nice folks. Will be back!

We've never eaten here so cant judge the food (excluding bar snacks) . We enjoy the quiet atmosphere too just relax in. There are sockets and free wifi to connect to and work from. The drinks are affordable and readily available. They have a variety of cocktails although i havent had a chance to try them. The staff are all friendly and easy to talk to. There is a rooftap bar that is frequently used but we havent seen it yet They allow dogs and offer drinking water for them. Kids are also allowed during the day
Kris S — Google review
Great seating on the terrace with a good selection of drinks. Avoid the food though! I ordered a £7 smoked sausage hot dog that was just a cheap hot dog in a burger bun, no fresh spring onion just cheap dried stuff with cold grated cheese. Not even close to worth the price.

The Quakerhouse is a cozy and laid-back pub with a warm ambiance, offering an excellent selection of craft beers and drinkable cider. Despite being hard to find, it's known for its friendly staff who are knowledgeable about real ales and the local history. The pub features live music, mainly rock and blues, creating a lively atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy the absence of a jukebox and instead listen to excellent piped music while savoring the popular Ales on offer.
Great beer, friendly staff, cosy vibe, low prices. Not much more anyone can want from a pub. They do good music events here too.

Very much a locals pub hidden away in the town centre. Always plenty of real ales to try along with some regular beers and ciders. The main interest is the live bands which play here catering for all tastes in music. Helpful, friendly bar staff as well. Didn't try any food.

My favourite pub in Darlington. Small, friendly and with well-kept great tasting beers and ciders. They often have live music, which is interesting because the clientele is of a certain age 😁

My daughter and her fiance held their engagement party here in the gorgeous upstairs venue. All guests who had not visited before loved the venue. During the planning stage, Shelley met with us and answered all questions, keeping in touch throughout the planning process. We were allowed access the day before to decorate and on the day itself to present the food and add the table decorations. As a central Darlington venue the location was superb for all guests. We had some travel from Glasgow, Austria and even Mexico for the party. Blessed with good weather guests were able to make the most of the outside spaces. A huge thanks to Shelley and the team for making this such an amazing event. Thank you.

Lovely little gem, brilliant line up of stouts. Bartender was very accommodating letting me have a try of them all before making my choice and my word, that's a stout.

I've been visiting this pub for at least 20 years... Is that right? It can't be?! They have a fantastic selection of beers and some seriously drinkable cider. It was a quiet Monday evening when I was in with some old friends, the Barman was witty and played along with our shenanigans. A good time was had by all.

I cannot leave a review about food because we didn't eat and who needs to with the fabulous selection of nine real and craft ales, a selection of ciders and lagers including Budvar on draft. Great place, very friendly and off the beaten track up an alley.

Hard to find , especially if you follow Google maps ( it's NOT in the covered market or the market square ! ) . Pizza Express is a delightful chain pizzeria that offers a unique dining experience with its chefs donning striped t-shirts as they skillfully toss handmade pizzas. The restaurant boasts an exciting and authentic Italian menu, featuring an extensive selection of pizzas along with a dedicated children's menu, making it perfect for family outings. With its modern and spacious layout, Pizza Express creates a welcoming atmosphere where guests can relax and enjoy their meals.
Phenomenal. It's a chain, but the food quality is of a high standard. Very accommodating for toddlers and my little boy loved the children's cheese and tomato pizza. We try to visit once a month as a treat because it can be quite expensive but worth it if you find a voucher which are frequently available on social media and other sources. They also stock my favourite non alcoholic lager too (barvaria) which is a big plus from me.

Took us long time to find it and when got there the waiter said they didn't have still lemonade when they did and didn't rite down my bf main rite and my tuna pizza didn't have much tuna or cheese on it and my bf got weird green pasta when asked for boi pasta and when I got my tea got told no sweeters but the table next to us had the glass with all the sugars in it so we will not be coming back to this one will go to Teesside or metrocenter on first and last time at this one

A lovely lunchtime meal, I had an American Hot pizza just perfect for my taste. Being lunchtime it was a bit quiet - only three other customers - so the social atmosphere was missing. Used a two-for-one discount voucher to make it better value for money. Wouldn't have gone there otherwise.

Had a takeaway pizza, it was delicious. Also I arrived much earlier than the time I'd booked online and the chef just got on and made it for me, so it was lovely and fresh. Dough balls were a little bit sad though otherwise it would have been a 5*

Nice enough venue and the our pizzas were good, for the price I was pleasantly surprised as I'm quite fussy about these things. I've given 5 stars because all the staff were very friendly and attentive, looking after us and especially our 2 year old.

Amazing staff here. So friendly and accommodating. Couldn't recommend more. The food was all very nice as well. Definitely as good as a Pizza Express gets.

We went here for a light lunch, ordering 3 starters and drinks. The service was superb the restaurant was not that busy, the chef even brought us our food and got us extra dips with no bother. Very clean and well presented the restaurant had a great atmosphere. On a hot summers day the place was cool and calm. Great value for money, would come back again.

Three adults had a pasta dish, one child's pizza and one adult pizza. I have never dined in here before and certainly won't be again.Pasta I could of made at home and poured a pasta sauce over no garnish on top, pizza's were bland didn't look apertising not worth the money. We dine out with family and have never complained at any restaurant before when the waitress asked if we enjoyed the meal I said we were disappointed with the meal, sorry has to be a one star rating.

Meze Turkish Restaurant offers a delightful blend of Mediterranean flavors, drawing inspiration from European, Turkish, and Middle Eastern culinary traditions. The restaurant prides itself on using only the finest and freshest ingredients, with a wide array of vegetarian options available. Nestled in the heart of Darlington, this hidden gem provides a friendly atmosphere and charming decor adorned with beautiful Turkish lamps. Unlike typical Turkish eateries that focus solely on kebabs, Meze presents authentic Turkish cuisine that is both delicious and diverse.
First time at this lovely small restaurant. The food was excellent, and the lady who was serving was very friendly and polite. Hummus and bread were tasty, and Imam bayaldi was amazing. Definitely would be going again.
Syruk — Google review
First time at this restaurant as was recommended by a friend. Must say the food was beautiful, plenty of flavour. We ordered the chicken kebabs! (see photo) The service was ok, only thing I would say was we were not asked if everything was ok throughout our meal, or even at the end of our meal nothing was asked. Apart from that though I could not fault the place.
Melissa L — Google review
The restaurant was placed in a bad street. Inside was a strange smell as if they had mould somewhere. However the food was nice. Not as rich flavoured as I expected, the rice has no flavour. The meat was nice. The waitress was friendly. But the atmosphere was not great.
Louise S — Google review
Nice decor Staff were willing to move tables together for a group of 6. Staff were friendly and efficient throughout. Food was delivered quickly, but didn't seem rushed in the cooking as presentation was superb Chicken supreme was very tasty and will priced. Complimentary bread was great . Other little I was with enjoyed their meal too
Jonathan M — Google review
Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my visit to Meze Turkish Restaurant. While the staff were friendly and welcoming, the overall experience didn’t live up to expectations, especially if you’re looking for authentic Turkish cuisine. The food lacked flavour, and the bread was noticeably hard. One of the biggest telltale signs for me that this wasn’t an authentic Turkish restaurant was how the dish was served: the meat was placed separately from the rice, rather than on top, which meant the rice didn’t absorb any of the rich oils and flavours from the meat something that’s so essential in traditional Turkish cooking. The atmosphere was also underwhelming. There was little to no vibe in the space, which made the dining experience feel quite flat. As it stands, I wouldn’t return for another meal.

Customers can enjoy great value with the market menu, which offers three courses for just £30. Each dish is of excellent quality and comes with a side of vegetables for the table.
Absolutely Brilliant …. Service was fantastic and the food was out of this world! We were away at Rockliffe Hall for a spa break after our wedding and decided to walk along to the Bay Horse…… so pleased we did! I’ve eaten in lots of great restaurants and this blew all expectations one of the best meals I’ve eaten in a very long time…. Highly recommended 👌

Wonderful architecture and setting. For folk who choose not to drink, the selection very poor and child like - needs more thought to reflect the clientele and setting. The food is amazing - a taste sensation and well worth the trip over. Highly recommended

superb meal at a truly gastro pub with a wide selection of dishes, we had fillet steaks and salmon fillet and both were delicious. we had a share platter of desserts as we couldn't choose and loved each and every one. it was a true dining experience

The Bay Horse in Hurworth is a gem . The setting is lovely . The design of the restaurant is elegant and is matched by the quality of the food, which is excellent. The accompanying wine choices are very good. The staff are friendly and service is good.

Fantastic welcoming service, followed by superb quality food. We chose the market menu which is a fixed price menu for 2 or 3 courses. Each course was delicious.
