American restaurant
Grandma's Saloon & Grill is a beloved dining spot with a vintage atmosphere and classic American fare. With two locations in Duluth, the Canal Park site offers outdoor seating and a bustling tourist scene, while the Miller Hill location has its own charm. The menu features an array of pasta, sandwiches, and burgers that have garnered national recognition.
Great location and great enviornment but a bit noisy so if that’s not your vibe I’d not come or arrive earlier. There’s a normal booth seating area but also a bar seating area. I got Smoky Baked Mac N’ Cheese which was extremely good and I’d definitely eat again if I returned. They’ve got a decent range of dishes such as pasta, side pieces, beverages, a kid menu, starters, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and such. The pieces around the restaurant on the walls, ceiling, and such were quite unique and had good humour to it. They’ve also got a merchandise/souvenir section right next to the entrance/exit.

We wanted to try Grandma’s because it is a popular spot in Duluth. We loved the theme and ambience of the restaurant. There were so many things to look at! We got there as the restaurant opened, so we were seated quickly. The food was mediocre. It was nothing that stood out from the other places we ate at in Duluth. Serving was huge though! Our server was not great. It seemed like she didn’t really want to be there. She was rude to some members of our party. She gave the vibe that we should be grateful that she was even taking our order. Overall, Grandma’s was an experience. I think if you’re in Duluth, you should at least try it once. Will we come back? No.

My friend and I stopped in for lunch on our way up north and had the most amazing time!!! The atmosphere was so fun, the food was delicious (huge portions) and the service was incredible. Our server, Lisa, went above and beyond to give us everything we needed (despite us being quite indecisive). We will definitely be back!!! Thank you Lisa!!!!

We recently had the opportunity to dine at Grandma’s Saloon & Grill for the first time. Although we have frequently visited Duluth while traveling to and from the North Shore, we had never had the chance to visit Grandma’s until now. On a summer weekday afternoon, the establishment was half full. The service was excellent, and we were impressed by the ambiance. However, the food was average and somewhat overpriced. I opted for the Chicken Pot Pie, while my wife chose the Walleye.
Michael R — Google review
Nice atmosphere. Trout sandwich had very little meat or substance. Chicken sandwiches looked good, not toasted bread. No refills on water. Seemed too busy to check on customers. Fun experience overall, food looked good. Fries and fried cheese were great.
Travis B — Google review
Whewww…We had a great experience at Grandma’s Saloon & Grill. The wait time was minimal, and the staff was friendly from the moment we walked in. Our waiter, Brenden, was an absolute pleasure—he remembered our entire order perfectly and was incredibly attentive throughout the meal. The barbecue wings were a standout! They were perfectly sauced with just the right amount of smoky sweetness. Excellent service all around!

What a great themed restaurant with great food, service, and atmosphere. The pictures do not do it justice. This is a must see and experience restaurant if you’re in the Duluth area. My only suggestion would be to advise your guests that there are two completely different menus between the main floor and the upper level before you seat them.

Cool place to eat for a touristy spot. Walls are decorated with awesome decorated. Food was ok. Large portions. The best item was the wild rice and gravey they serve with it. Does have a deck to watch the bridge.

The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, located in Canal Park, Duluth, MN, is a museum dedicated to preserving the maritime heritage of the region. It offers interactive exhibits on waterways and a lock-and-dam simulator game for older visitors. The center also features a collection of models, maps, and memorabilia showcasing the history and operations of shipping on Lake Superior.
Beautiful museum. It was well worth the trip. A Great Lakes experience. Laid out in great detail and well maintained. It was an absolute pleasure and to cap it off a ship was entering the harbor so it allowed for the bridge to rise and the ship to pass. Children waved to the crew onboard and the crew responded equally. A beautiful day with amazing weather. A must see. Plan your trip around one of the ships entering and you will love it

In all fairness I was more entranced by the view of the sailboats on the water... in the rainstorm. Perfect views through huge windows ... and the gift shop cashier was so helpful and warm. Definitely recommend!
Angela S — Google review
Very informative museum. Downstairs has a movie room that shows clips on the sinking of Edmond Fitzgerald and a gift shop. Upstairs goes through the history of the lakes and all the different industries that use them. It was fascinating to see the 3d model of the lakes showing how deep they are.
Teresa P — Google review
First of all it is free! But I would have gladly paid a fee for this museum though. Great history of the area and of the legendary SS Edmund Fitzgerald. Some neat videos to watch in there as well. It is right next to the canal and the unique Aerial Lift Bridge, so it includes a history on that as well as some cool schematics of that engineering feat. Lots of great models of boats and ships and even actual engines of a ship. For fun you can even act like a captain of a ship at the helm. Beautiful photography as well. Before you leave and check out the canal with its 2 lighthouses as well as the aerial bridge, you have to stop by the gift shop. Prices are not outrageous and the lady that works there is one of the nicest people I have met. She even showed me the map that she puts pins in to note where people have come from to visit...as far as Africa and New Zealand! A unique experience.

I'm not associated with this place. I am visiting the area and wanted to check this place out. It's a great museum of typical ships, and the film on the Edmund Fitzgerald was a must watch.

Canal Park is located on the shore of Lake Superior and is a hotspot for shopping, dining, entertainment and attractions - like the famous Aerial Lift Bridge! We enjoyed walking the Lakewalk and seeing the Lighthouse.

Great little musuem, and the best part is that it's free! We got lucky enough to visit at a time that their biggest ship was docking and we got to see the aerial bridge rising! The lighthouse was also a plus

Sandwich shop
Nestled in the charming port town of Duluth, Minnesota, Northern Waters Smokehaus is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates the art of smoked fish and meats. This culinary gem boasts an impressive menu featuring over 25 gourmet sandwiches that highlight locally sourced ingredients.
This is a unique little sandwich shop that offers some amazing sandwiches. They specialize in smoked fish - but everything we had here was good. They have a ton of different sandwich options. After ordering, you'll probably have to wait 10 minutes or so, but it's worth the wait. They also have smoked fish and meats you can pick up in the cooler downstairs.

The Cajan Finn is hands down my favorite fish sandwich! Wow was I blown away by flavors that are incorporated into this masterpiece. It’s worth the money. Friendly staff and short wait time. This sandwich leaves you satisfied.
Clarissa M — Google review
There is a line at all hours for a reason. The food is unreal and vibe is immaculate. Everyone who works there actually cares in some fashion about the place and the product. Pick something up from the deli or the merch wall before you go. Employees for the most part are the artists behind the many items for purchase. Get the Cajun Finn. And the hoodie. Perfection.
Kate — Google review
This is the second time we’ve eaten there, I don’t remember what kind of sandwich I had the first time, but it was absolutely fantastic. So this time I made a huge mistake, not remembering what I had before I ordered the gorilla, not wondering what kind of mustard they had on there. It was Dijon mustard, and that was the only thing I tasted. And it is not my favorite food. So the mistake was all mine. I thought my sandwich was awful, but my wife enjoyed hers. She even offered me part of hers. If the line wasn’t so long, I would’ve gone downstairs and ordered something different. Or maybe the same thing without the Dijon. Aside from that your food is really good, they even have a small deli next-door.
Nobox G — Google review
Food was amazing and decor was so cool with the fish on the walls. Not the easiest for handicap customers very confusing trying to get to bottom floor. Employee that was taking orders was unfriendly and not the most helpful for a first time customer. Seen this location all over TikTok that it was The Place to go. I had "The Big Dipper" had it with the porketta it was a great sandwich but the 3 Pepper Sauce was ICE cold which was a little disappointing I don't think its supposed to be served like that ... It would been a 10/10 with the sauce warm. With how high our lunch was my overall rating is 7.5/10.
Jesse K — Google review
Seriously tasty. I don’t know if I’ve had a more flavorful sandwich ever! Such a cool place, perfect amount of offerings. Everything they have is intentionally curated. Good luck trying to choose! Awesome location, although the parking situation isn’t great. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re in Duluth!
Maeden J — Google review
Put in an order in advance (checked around noon - 1:30 and 1:30 were fully booked but managed to get a mid week 2 PM order in, it worked out since we were at Jay Cooke and by the time we drove into Duluth and enjoyed the lake walk area, our sandwiches were ready for us at the pickup counter, no wait). Delicious Cajun Finn - a perfect sandwich!! We also enjoyed the Italiansk though we found it to be actually more delicious the next day when the bread had softened with the oil and vinegar. The restaurant and market are in the basement of the building - head down the stairs and follow the clear arrow signage. There was a good amount of seating down there in addition to the outdoor tables.

Definitely a must stop when down in the canal center. Plenty of sandwiches to choose from and a few beers on tap and in cans. There's a counter in the back selling smoked meats and fish. Everything I got was so good!

Vikre Distillery, located in Canal Park, is a craft distillery that offers tours, tastings, and seasonal cocktails featuring their house-made gin, aquavit, and vodka. The distillery prides itself on using the clean water of Lake Superior and local organic grains to create their spirits. With a true north vibe both inside and outside the establishment, visitors can enjoy Nordic-inspired drinks such as Boreal Gin, vodka, whiskey, aquavit along with other beverages available for purchase.
Expresso Martini was excellent. Dirty Martini was on point. Didn’t even realize it was happy hour. (Both apply) Under their signature drinks Clique Bait was tasty with kick.

Such a cute space with the friendliest service ever! You know you've found a good bar when they have comfy, inviting chairs and well made drinks. Thank you to all the staff who walked around our dog to serve drinks 🤣 lol. She loved laying on the floor next to the bar and getting pets (even though she is side-eying me in the photo). My only recommendation is to make the menu a little more upscale looking instead of beach bar. I think it would fit the vibe inside more.

My wife and I were exploring Duluth and found this Gem! I got a flight, and my wife got a cocktail! Here is how it went... The flight... The Ovrevann Aquavit- Which was smooth and very aromatic The Voyageur Aquavit- Tasted very much like your normal spiced whiskey with a different kick Hay and Sunshine- Warm and smooth, I really enjoyed it! Temperance River Rye Whiskey- Smooth with a nice spice, hard to describe taste, bitter but in a good way! My wife got the "Airplane Mode" - a very tasty, spicy banana, vanilla, sweet cocktail that went over very well! I also wanted to shout out the service, friendly, easy to talk to staff, and the place just felt clean, light, and cozy! Thanks for a great experience!

My family loves to visit Vikre every time we are in Duluth! We love the large drink menu using our favorite base spirits! We always get the snack box too - Perfect pairing! Vikre is our favorite gin and our “house gin” at our home bar.

We have been to several distilleries but never a gin and vodka one. This was an interesting place. We started with sharing 4 tasting samples and liked the strawberry rhubarb gin the best. We also tried two of their specialty drinks, the lavender lemon drop martini and the raspberry whiskey smash. Both were really tasty. Finally, we ordered the Northen waters smokehaus epic snack box. It came with smoked salmon and trout, nordic chips, cheddar cheese chunks, a cheese spread, almonds, olives, pickles, and peppers. It was ok but not worththe moneywe spent on it. Our server was not very attentive, and we had to keep asking others to help us as our table was not in the main room but off to the side with no one else around. We did leave with a bottle of the strawberry rhubarb gin.
Teresa P — Google review
Spending a mini-moon here in Duluth and stumbled upon Vikre. It is definitely a must stop if you're looking for a great cocktail and vibe. The snack box was delicious. The Lavender Lemon Drop Martini and Strawberry Rhubarb Gimlet were delicious. Atmosphere is relaxing and service was great. Our Server Raina was the absolute best!
Richard H — Google review
Fantastic distillery with a wide array of options and a fun atmosphere. Lots of great cocktails to choose from, as well as many flexible options for tasting flights - even give you some lime and tonic and soda water in case you want to turn your gin tasters into G & Ts! Fun to try their assortment of gins and aquavits, especially enjoyed their three herbal liquors - smoother takes on Campari, Chartreuse, and Aperol. Update - after only doing a liquor flight during our first visit, had to go back and try some cocktails! Very unique and well-crafted, especially the root beer foam in the Tragedy of Prohibition and the fusion of pineapple, coffee, hazelnut, and lime in the Tropical Goth. Fantastic notes of raspberry in the Last Word as well! Also went for the Frenchie flight - especially liked the blackberry in the Briar and the house apertivo in the Velo.
Roger H — Google review
This is a beautiful stop in Duluth. The decor is classy and relaxing. They have a creative and diverse drink menu, including a nice selection of NA drinks. All their food options are snack sized, but enough for sharing between two people. Their vegan snack box is amazing! The staff was fun and knowledgeable. Lastly, the quality of the products were top shelf and worth the price. Pictured is the vegan snack box, whiskey flight and seltzer flight. I would have taken all their liquor selections home with me if I could, but I could only pick two. The Frenchie seltzer and the Aquavit were my choices, and they did not disappoint.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The Aerial Lift Bridge is a historic landmark in Duluth, spanning the Duluth Ship Canal and providing stunning views of the bustling harbor and Lake Superior. Originally constructed in 1905 as a transporter bridge, it was later converted to a lift bridge and has become one of the busiest bridges in the United States. The bridge's deck can be raised 135 feet to accommodate large ships passing through.
We were in Duluth for the day and decided to check out the Aerial Lift Bridge. We've seen the Aerial Lift Bridge on some YouTube videos but this was our first time seeing it in person. We got to watch it raise and lower a couple of times, very cool. Also got to snag a Geocache while we were on the bridge.
Jerry F — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Aerial Lift Bridge is such an unforgettable icon of Duluth. Watching it gracefully rise to let ships through while boat horns echo across the water—thrilling! The canal surroundings are full of energy, from tourists snapping photos to fishermen casting lines. It’s a landmark that’s equally dramatic, historic, and deeply tied to the character of the North Shore. Great place to tour with the Vista Fleet Scenic Tour
Peter H — Google review
Such a great icon in the city of the Duluth which is the Minnesota seaway. Fun to drive or walk over. Neat to see the road lift to allow boats and barges pass through. Next to Canal Park which is full of shops and restaurants. Fun place to discover.

This 1930's Army Corps of Engineers built bridge is a wonderful machine at over 90 years old. Watching those 500 tonight counterweights balance out the 1,000 ton span is cool to watch. It looks quite similar to the Cape Cod Canal bridge.

New American restaurant
Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar is a casual dining spot in Canal Park, located in the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace. It offers inventive New American cuisine and regional cocktails in a relaxed setting with outdoor seating. The menu features shareable plates like Beef Tartare, Fresh Mussels, and Charred Shishitos, as well as entrees such as Lamb Tikka Masala, Brick Quail, Salmon, Bulgogi Wagyu Skirt Steak, and Toasted Orzo.
My husband & I enjoyed yet another LOVELY evening at Lake Avenue - from the chef's counter, we sipped tasty cocktails (mezcal & negroni) while observing the chefs & servers create the most perfect meal & experience for all, everything seemed to run flawlessly! We started with the most delicious calamari (perfectly cooked with a chili kick) & next, the warm kale salad (a must eat) and salmon dish. What a perfect evening! Thank you all for taking such good care of us, we cant wait to return!
Vanessa K — Google review
The food was good however not spectacular. I had the red snapper ceviche and the pork belly sandwich for dinner with a black sesame cheesecake for dessert. The sandwhich was amazing but the fries were plain. The ceviche was watery (if that makes sense) but still good, and the cheese cake was average. The wait staff was incredible however and I would definitely go back.
Josiah W — Google review
This place was excellent! It’s a little hidden and you have to go through the market entrance. The salmon was great and I think the portion was perfect for me. I also got the carrot cake for dessert and it was super rich and dense. Super delicious spot for dinner!
Hannah M — Google review
I've not left a restaurant with such a deep understanding of its city like I have with Lake Avenue. Duluth's urban renewal is charming in the same way a childrens' soccer match is, in that there is an earnest attempt regardless of the result. The same cannot be said about Lake Avenue. A rotating menu will always be bold, and I would have commended them for this had the execution not been so poor. In the images I've included, you'll see the Tofu Masala ($24), the Mac and Cheese ($20), and the Steak Dinner ($53). While I cannot be certain which ingredients were used to push these dishes to such a steep price, I know salt was not one of them. The keen-eyed gourmet will undoubtedly spot the great unifying force of the culinary world, fresno chili and pickled red onion. The unnecessary inclusion of these in both the Tofu Masala and the Steak Dinner unfortunately speaks truth to Lake Avenue's attempt at being something it is not - a restaurant worthy of its prices. Neither the Steak nor Tofu Masala benefit from these flavors, but if your menu is on rotation and you lack the culinary experience to accommodate this, it does provide a universal shock to the palette that might distract your guests from the dish's lack of cohesion. In other circumstances, I would not be so harsh, but the $120 (pre-tip) bill my partner and I paid makes that irresponsible. This is Duluth, Minnesota; leave Lake Avenue, walk 20 seconds in any direction and you'll wind up in a T-Shirt shop or a Bar & Grill. Lake Avenue is not fighting the expectations of its patrons, but the ones that it sets upon itself. Find what works and do it well. No one is asking for anything else.
Logan — Google review
Our visit to Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar was truly enjoyable. We stopped by during a quiet period, so we were seated right away. One of the owners, who was both friendly and attentive, looked after us. We tried the Biscuits and Gravy (without the chili oil) and the Carrot Cake French Toast—both dishes were outstanding and unlike anything we'd tasted before. We're certain we'll return in the future.
Curt O — Google review
Wonderful atmosphere. Nice attentive staff. Food was PHENOMINAL!! only thing I wish different is that the red snapper was the entire fish head on and scored. Most places that serve red snapper do the entire fish. Here it's only 1 fillet. The fish is not quite big enough to do only one fillet. But it was delicious! The calamari was some of the best I've ever had and im from florida and eat a LOT of calamari!

If you've never had real Vietnamese pho, you'd think this was good. But I have been a pho-natic for years and know what real authentic pho is and how it's made. Comparing this place to a pho place in the cities, this place lacks some things for being an actual pho restaurant such as tripe, star anise, red chili flake oil and Thai basil. The fried items seemed like it was either refried or the frying oil was old or dark and burnt as the wontons were dark and really hard to chew as well as the egg rolls and sesame chicken. The pho broth seemed like it was diluted and bland with lots of onions in it. Also, the portions for $11.95 were smaller than I'd expect. The service was not too bad as most places this day in age are under staffed and our food came out within minutes of ordering. I'd say give this place a try, but it could be much better and more authentic.
C S — Google review
Yummy pho but fried rice & stir fry can be better. Service was great despite the business.
Chloe L — Google review
It's OK but if you've never had authentic pho, you'd know authentic pho is so much better! I've been a pho-natic for years and have tried many places in the twin cities as well as living with a Vietnamese family. They lacked Vietnamese menu items like Thai basil and tripe. The menu could use a description for what each meal is or has in it. The broth seemed watered down, not very flavorful and full of onions. The portion seemed small for being almost $12, whereas most pho restaurants are only about $9 with a bigger serving and even bigger sizes available. The egg rolls and anything fried seemed hard, dark brown and chewy like it was refried or the fryer oil was old/burnt. The service was ok and friendly but like a lot of places they seemed under staffed. Good ahead and give them a try if you're in the area.
C S — Google review
I never tried Vietnamese food before. So we tried a combo with sesame chicken fried rice and a roll. The rice was tasty but the chiken preparation was very sweet, so i didn't like it.
SUSMITA S — Google review
The food was bland, subpar for even cheap Chinese restaurants, the fried rice had no color, the egg roll was disgusting, and the sauce for my main course was advertised to be slightly sweet and spicy…it was neither of those. The fortune cookie was the best thing I ate. The service was arguably worse, 2 people yelling at each other in the kitchen about family drama and going to college. I’m not surprised I was the only one in the restaurant. I will not be back.
Jake M — Google review
Beef and vegetable combo with an egg roll and delicious friend rice. My husband called it special because it was so good. The meat and vegetables were perfectly seasoned. Very big portions. The egg roll was different, it was not filled with shredded veggies as I expected. It was a meaty mixture. Kinda weird. The wontons were crispy and good. We will be back!!
Angela F — Google review
The food was okay. Beef vegetable stir fry was so salty the fried rice coil t even help it. Pho was okay just which they had actual chili oil (spicy kind). Egg rolls were okay not that good and the chicken wings they provide oyster sauce for you to dip in which is super weird but to each their own.
Yuyeng L — Google review
Just was in and I got General Tso’s chicken which was amazing as usual. I didn’t finish my chicken and I got a leftovers box but forgot my chicken in the box at my table. I remember and came back about 5 - 10 minutes later and asked about it. They apologized and said it had been thrown away. I said thank you and was preparing to leave but they said they would give me some fried rice and about 2 minutes later I got a big container of hot fried rice. The staff are so kind and respectful. I love this restaurant and will definitely be coming back!

I’ll start with how the food was. The food was amazing, well seasoned with quick service. They were very accommodating of to our diet preference of veganism. Our host was understanding and diligent with his duties. We were asked to sanitize our hands the moment we entered the restaurant. The tables we spaced well to facilitate social distancing. After a table left, the table and chairs were sanitized. When we paid the check, he sanitized my card after. My tip was even sanitized. I highly recommend this restaurant for the food, the service, the sanitization, and safety.

This restaurant offers delicious food. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is comfortable with plenty of seats, even for parties. The food quantity is good. I did not like the proxy meat option though. Loved to be here while visiting Lake Duluth!

Same high quality food ordered cafeteria style. They offer combos with entree + egg roll + fried rice, entrees alone, tea, soda, and other items! Some of our families favorite dishes are; mock duck with vegetables and sweet and sour chicken. How it’s done: Place your order at the front, pay, take a table inside or a bench outside, collect food from front table, enjoy at a table inside or to go! I took pictures after we started enjoying the food so I didn’t capture how neatly the food was assembled to bring to the tables. They provide easy to transport To-Go friendly packaging too. There are tables inside for groups of 2-12 people. Easy, fast, hot, delicious, great portions. Sharing a variety of dishes, we spent ~$10-$12 a person. A great meal out in Canal Park.

The place was good, neat and clean but the food was okay. We order combination plates (Chicken with Lemongrass with Egg-roll) and Chicken wings in special garlic sauce. We were expecting it more spicy than it was served. The chicken wings dish was sweet in taste. The quantity of the food is good based on the price.

This restaurant serves a mixture of both Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. It is a small and cozy restaurant within the area of Duluth. They have a few tables to accommodate up to 6 people, but they can accommodate for more. The service was above average with no wow factor. As for the food, I had pho and I was fairly disappointed by the small amount of rice noodles I got, the broth tasted all right, but wasn't quite authentic. I left the place with a half-empty stomach.
Minh P — Google review
Loved the appatizer sampler, it was a little oily but definitely enjoyed the variety. Higly recommend to try it considering the price. Some of the dishes like chicken mangolia was a little on the sweeter side. Would have personally preferred it to be spicier. Nice little place with very quick service and good management. Would recommend if you like Chinese or Vietnamese cusine.

I wished I had taken some pictures. The food was really good, and goodsize portions, the prices were very reasonable. We shared 2 meals and an appetizer between 4 people Definitely come back here.

Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Great Lakes Aquarium, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Leif Erikson Park. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Great Lakes Aquarium is a unique waterfront destination in Duluth, offering an immersive experience with over 200 species of freshwater fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals. It stands out as the only aquarium in the U.S. focusing on freshwater exhibits. Visitors can explore interactive displays and recreated habitats showcasing aquatic life from around the world. One of its highlights is the Unsalted Seas exhibit, featuring animals from large lakes globally.
This aquarium is exceptionally clean!! It's a cute little aquarium! There are not that many displays, but the place is really big so lots of room! Perfect for little kids as its not overwhelming! It cost $20 per adult. Plus $10 parking, which was a little disappointing to have to pay for parking. Plenty of spaces to park.

It's a decent amount of different fish, octopus, stingray, starfish and a real cute tree with natural wood staircase on the inside leading to a slide on the out for kids upstairs and downstairs has lake superior, Michigan so on, shaped Interactive play pools my 3 year old had a blast at. Clean learning walls and such here and there. Would be cool if there were more salt water exotic attractions but amazing for the kids for sure.
Hailey G — Google review
Always a great experience with ample ever changing exhibits! Excellent place for kids to learn and burn off energy. My son LOVES the otters so we always come during the otter show. We wish they were out more. Consider providing an opportunity to touch their paws. It would really add to the experience and may help with enrichment given how social they are. The snapping turtle and the octopus really shined this trip seemingly interacting with us through the glass. It was really neat to see!

I love aquariums and when I googled things to do in Duluth, the Great Lakes Aquarium popped up. Did not know one existed, so I had to check it out. It was a creative and interesting place to visit. It gave some great history and science info on the lakes and Minnesota. It had some cool Sturgeon that you could pet. Had other fish native to the great lakes as well. Loved that it had a Bald Eagle. It did include an ocean section with some unique fish and coral reefs. This area include an octopus and some sea dragons. Very cool. Some great views of the harbor and the aerial bridge. The only reason I did not give it 4 stars was because of the steep parking price. Not sure why they charge so much for parking. The gift shop is a must stop. Some of the proceeds go to the parks of Minnesota...bonus! Side note...You can come back the same day with the same admission.

Always love going there and seeing the new exhibits and animals. This aquarium has a special place in my heart. I have had a membership for years and love showing people this place. I love the jellyfish touch pool and am so happy they are back.

Visited on a Friday afternoon. We walked from downtown wasn't my favorite with kids so I do recommend just driving and parking there no matter how close you are. There was a lot of interactive things for young kids! We had a great time and will be back. We spent so much time we ended up missing the whole Ocean area. Plan for a good 3 hours, this place blew our expectations out of the water!
Jon R — Google review
This aquarium provided such a great experience! The variety of fish and wildlife was incredible! It was like visiting an aquarium and zoo combination. There is a touch pond stocked with Sturgeon (which are so gorgeous) and also a jellyfish touch area that were both open. The interactive learning stations geared for kiddos are awesome. The habitat for each beautiful creature looked cleaned and lovingly tended to. This was such a great aquarium to visit and enjoy! I cannot wait to return on our next family visit. I would recommend a visit to anyone! 5 Stars indeed!

Bayfront Festival Park is a vibrant public plaza located next to Lake Superior, offering stunning views and hosting various summer festivals. It's also a popular spot for winter ice skating. Nearby Canal Park is bustling with activity, making it convenient to find lodging within walking distance. A bed and breakfast in Duluth, MN provides elegant guest rooms with beautiful lakefront views and a hearty breakfast each morning.
Nice venue on Lake Superior. There is supposed to be water fountains available to fill your own, but we didn't find any. There should be free water available. Where??

What a great place to take the family. There is so much to see and experience. There are concert venues that take place here. Make sure to read the requirements for what you should bring and avoid bringing to the park. The views are stunning. I would assume it's dog-friendly. However, I only saw one person with a dog. Check out the lake view and the cruise ships taking off.

We love going to City on the Hill Mysic Festival each year here. Plus we have been here on opening day for Bentleyville. This park is right off Lake Superior and has a cute park and bike trails.

What a fantastic location for PRIDE! We came from out of town and found it easy to navigate, with plenty of parking and incredibly friendly people everywhere. I felt safe in the park and really enjoyed the shows at the amphitheater. My only suggestion would be to bring your own seating - it was a long, beautiful day (and got hot in the sun!), and benches or large rocks fill up quickly.

The Duluth Octoberfest was awesome. The sun came out on Saturday and made for a perfect day of drinking beer and listening to some German beer songs. The park is right on the lake and has awesome views.

Bayfront Festival Park is a very well run, organized outdoor venue. With many vendors and food trucks, and great views of the harbor, it is a very special place to enjoy a concert. There are many hotel rooms a short walk away. I have been to many concerts here and never been disappointed. My thanks to the people who are behind scenes.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bayfront Festival Park is the ideal place to soak up waterfront culture. Whether it’s watching boats drift by, catching a community concert, or gathering with friends by the shore, this park pulses with summer life and local pride. Clean, welcoming, and full of friendly faces—I always recommend it to clients or visitors looking for genuine Duluth vibes. Unfortunately bad timing for us, we learned the famous Blues Festival is taking place a few days after our visit ... . (Picture is showing the dock just in front from waterview ...)

The North Shore Scenic Railroad in Duluth offers seasonal narrated train tours along a historic transport corridor, providing short, long, and themed rides. Operating from April to October, the railroad departs from the Duluth Union Depot and offers audio guides that explain the city's history and landmarks. Passengers can enjoy stunning views of Lake Superior, the woods, and downtown Duluth while traveling in style.
Great time on the train and at the museum! My wife loves trains and really enjoyed this experience. We got to chat with the conductor, who was kind, informative, and easy to speak to. The other staff on the train and at the museum were great too. It was easy to walk around on the train and see the fall colours/landscapes/lake. Definitely recommend

My husband and I did the Two Harbors Turnabout ride this week. It’s a relaxing and informative time. You get about 2 hours in Two Harbors for lunch and walking around. It’s plenty of time. My rating is mostly based in the disappointing views from the train. The pictures and descriptions led me to believe the views of the lake would be better. You pretty much see the lake in Duluth and then in Two Harbors. There are brief glimpses in other places but you mostly see trees.
Julie G — Google review
This was our 2nd year going on the "Pumpkin Ride". It was so awesome. It was a beauitful day, fantastic service! Everyone was over the top helpful! We will be making this an annual event. The museum events were amazing, my grand kids absolutely love this annual trip. We highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this train ride. Everyone was super nice. The views were so beautiful. It was very informative and super relaxing..It was pretty full of people the day we went. We had never been on this train before. I told my friends they gotta come and check it out. Its totally worth it. It was nice sitting on one side of the train one way and trading with a couple so they could see the side we were on which had the water views and we got to see the land views with the trees and houses for the way back. The trip to duluth from the twin cities was incredibly beautiful and cinematic with all the fall colors in full swing. It was the best day trip! We went on Oct. 18th. I includes a few videos of the sunset and the fall colors as well as a lake near duluth.

Pumpkin Train was fun and the kids loved moving about the train and the views from dome car were amazing. The tickets said snacks and drinks included but we only received one drink and no snacks (we had to buy them). I was disappointed in that only. Also, note that you stop at a yard with pumpkins set out - you don't actually stop at a pumpkin patch. All in all fun but would suggest NSSR to fix their wording or elaborate on services provided for dome car. I felt like $55/seat was a little expensive for a can of pop or alcohol beverage, 1 pumpkin and the short ride.

The Pizza Train is a fun experience for young and old alike. We brought our grandkids, ages 3 to 14, bonus fun to spend time prior to boarding the train in museum! Thank you North Shore Scenic Railroad! We will do this again in the future.

This is a Minnesota Bucket List event. I went on the Pizza Ride and haven’t had this much fun in along time. This ride is very kid friendly. I stood in the train car that had the bar and open doors on it. The scenic part isn’t as good as the train ride itself, but there was some good stuff there. Spoiled with a nice warm cookie near the end of the ride tops off this little pizza ride gem, I highly recommend this. Enjoy…

Leif Erikson Park is a serene and picturesque park located along the Lakewalk in Duluth. It boasts colorful flower beds, fountains, statues, and gazebos, making it a perfect place for leisurely strolls. The park is home to Duluth's Rose Garden and features a small stage for events. Visitors can also find a splendid sculpture of Leif Erickson and a replica of his ship on the premises.
What a great park near the lake, built mostly above the highway. A nice trail that leads you to more trails down by the train tracks and along the lake. Sadly the rose bushes weren’t in bloom as I can only imagine how much more beautiful the park would be. Stop by here to stretch your legs or have a picnic!
Denai C — Google review
This is a really awesome stop. There is lake access, a train track overlook, and a beautiful rose park/ garden. I would give all 5 stars, but sadly the amount of old booze bottles, trash, and a few needles on the beach pulled it down. I would still absolutely recommend stopping here, just be careful where you step and what you touch.

Lovely park!! Great view of the lake and the garden is very pretty. The garden is mostly roses but there is a mini peony garden. Lots of walking paths and a beautiful fountain.

Leaf Erikson Park is right on Lake Superior just up the boardwalk from canal park. There is a beach that can be accessed through the park as well as a nice flower garden on the north end of the park. It has good views of Lake Superior and the Lift Bridge

Great spot to walk, gather, enjoy nature, and experience Duluth. The paths that go down to the shoreline are abundant and adventurous. The homeless population is high in Duluth. So be careful down here as you adventure. Needles are unfortunately a constant hazard.

Restaurant
Jamrock Cultural Restaurant is a Jamaican eatery that originated during the pandemic, with chef/owner Tony O'Neil initially selling jerk food from his home before moving to a commercial kitchen due to high demand. Inspired by his Jamaican roots and family's restaurant background, O'Neil offers well-seasoned dishes like jerk chicken wings and curried goat with sautéed cabbage and rice. The restaurant boasts a unique atmosphere with graffiti-style walls, lively music, and friendly staff.
I already know how good the food is but I had to share how gorgeous my food looked. This was my first time sitting down at the new location and they didn’t disappoint. I ordered the steak over Gouda Mac and cheese. Everything was cooked to perfection, the vibe inside was chill,it was very clean and comfortable.Of course I’ll be back.💪🥂

I had the opportunity to visit Jamrock for the first time last night! Myself, my boyfriend, and a friend of ours stopped in at shortly after 8PM, and were happy to hear we were still in time to order takeout. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was immediately very calming and relaxing with beautiful artwork and lovely seating options. I enjoyed the fact that it was somewhat dark inside, rather than sickly bright with tons of lighting - for someone like myself with sensory problems, it was very enjoyable even just while we waited for our food. I ordered the daily special of jerk chicken tacos with corn bowl. It was absolutely incredible!!! From the first bite, I was in love with it. The flavors were phenomenal (the sauce that comes with the tacos is a MUST), the meat was tender and juicy, the shells were still in great shape despite a drive home, and the corn was delicious. My boyfriend had the jerk chicken gouda mac and cheese, and said it was great! There wasn't a noodle left in the bowl by the time he was done. Our friend had the same meal as myself, and he agreed that it was fantastic. Overall, it was phenomenal. I will definitely be enjoying meals from here again. And as somebody with Celiac disease, I can confidently say that I enjoyed my meal with zero negative aftereffects, which is always a great experience. 10/10, Jamrock. Thank you!

Gem of a place! My jerk shrimp and smoked Gouda Mac was absolutely delicious, service was great, menu is super fresh/changes with seasonal ingredients. Feel so lucky to have this spot in Duluth.
Ashley C — Google review
We got jerk chicken, curry chicken, side was mac n cheese, beef patties, and coco bread. The chicken were dry, no flavors. The mac n cheese was disgusting, tasted like sour cream over noodles with burned cheese on the top. The Beef patties are patties from the dollar tree ( i bought some from there, looks, taste, and texture are the same), and the coco bread was chewy like it was heated in the microwave and was from the grocery store and its not even coco bread. Too expensive for what it is. Nothing taste like what it's supposed to. Probably the worse food I've ever had. Sorry, not worth it.
Jamie Y — Google review
My wife and I got the curried goat, oxtails, and a summer rum punch. We ate outside - the weather was perfect, and just loved the food. Seriously tender meat with a delightful slow burn heat level. The drink was fun - licorice and candies for decorations. Chef Tony and his team absolutely know what they are doing. We'll be back! Thank you for the amazing food!
Matthew S — Google review
We’re visiting the area and most of the other restaurants were generic American burgers, steakhouses and pizza. This place looked different so we wanted to try. We arrived right around 6pm on a Friday night. We got a family dinner for $45 that probably could’ve served 5 people. Everything was delicious! The greens (and I’m not a huge “greens” person) were my favorite! The ribs, mac’n’cheese and yams were amazing. Would definitely recommend.
Mallory H — Google review
Just amazing food. Every single bite just has so many flavors - everything we’ve had has been fantastic. The current style of service with just one or two meals each night allows such attention to detail that you won’t find anywhere else. If you’re looking for something unique in the Twin Ports, this is the place!

Unfortunately, I have to be honest. Coming from the south, I'm used to not trusting any Caribbean food restaurants in the North. I was very hopeful. I saw the rating of 4.4 on Google , and it is deceiving. The atmosphere, decor, and service are great. However, I came for grilled wings and a beef patty. Half of the menu was missing. Then we ordered the coconut bread and the Jerk Chicken Gouda Mac and Cheese. That's what I ordered, but I received warmed up ciabatta bread with some sour butter dip and day old food. What I should have recognized was that it did not smell like food was cooking and no customers. Usually, that's the mom and pop type. Oh, I'm about to eat real food vibes. NOPE. The cheese was not cheesing. It was dry, and so was the chicken that had the flavor, but not fresh. My boss ended up eating more than me, and her stomach was hurting but the end of the night. My I knew first bite...THAT AINT IT. I was told by the waiter to vome.back when the owner is available. So sad. I live so far away, and the owner should make sure his food is consistent no matter when it is served.

Nestled along the stunning shores of Lake Superior, Sir Benedicts Tavern on the Lake is a quintessential English-style pub that captures the essence of Duluth's vibrant dining scene. Known affectionately as "Sir Ben's" by locals, this charming establishment offers an eclectic menu filled with beloved pub classics and a lively atmosphere enhanced by live music most nights.
Brunch with a Lake View: Sir Benedict's Tavern Delivers Atmosphere and Flavor Looking for a brunch with a view, we found ourselves at Sir Benedicts Tavern on the Lake. The setting had promise—and quirks. Parking was scarce, so plan on a short walk from nearby street parking. Once inside, we found a cozy, bustling atmosphere that never felt overwhelming. The staff struck a balance of laid-back and attentive—friendly smiles and helpful guidance from the moment we arrived. Restrooms were simple: two single-occupancy, non-gender-specific rooms. They were clean but showed signs of character—graffiti dotted the walls and ceiling. Seating is self-service style: order at the counter, pick your spot, and the waitstaff brings the food with a warm touch. Lake View & Outdoor Seating It was a foggy day, but we appreciated the generous outdoor seating with views that, on a clearer morning, would be stunning. Even through the mist, the lake added serenity to our brunch. We started with the Pesto Bruschetta, beautifully presented and generously topped with pesto, feta, and tomatoes. It was flavorful, fresh, and visually inviting. The nachos (just a half order!) were unexpectedly hearty—smothered in cheese, tomatoes, a large dollop of sour cream that didn't shy away, and pico de gallo and jalapeno slices on the side. The timing from order to table felt just right. Our waitress arrived with a friendly smile and double-checked that we had everything we needed before leaving us to enjoy. Her attitude matched the tone of the place: casual but caring. 🌟 Overall Impression Despite minor hiccups (parking and fog), Sir Benedicts Tavern on the Lake delivered a memorable brunch with a side of laid-back charm. Good food, good vibes, and a lakeside setting—9/10 would recommend.

In a city that is pretty vegan-friendly, Sir Ben’s vegan Cobb salad is the single best vegan entree in town. Loaded and perfectly balanced, it’s super delicious & satisfying. I’ve already had this entree four times this summer and will continue to return again and again to try and satisfy my cravings for it. While some places just throw a simple vegan entree on the menu, this one is thoughtful and well executed.

Bees Invaded My Epic Duluth Beer Adventure at Sir Benedict’s—But I'd Still Give It 5 Stars! 🐝🍻 (You Won't Believe the Historic Vibes!) #DuluthHiddenGem 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 Stars – A Historic Beer Haven in Duluth That's Worth the Buzz! Oh man, if you're in Duluth, Minnesota, and craving a craft beer experience that's straight out of a history book, RUN—don't walk—to Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake! This place is a total gem, nestled right on the shores of Lake Superior with an outdoor seating area that feels like you've time-traveled back to the 1800s. Picture this: you're sitting on a charming wooden patio surrounded by century-old brick walls, vintage lanterns flickering in the breeze, and the faint echo of Duluth's maritime past whispering through the air. The historic ambiance is next-level—it's like dining in a restored ship captain's quarters, with exposed beams that tell stories of old trading posts and iron ore ships docking nearby. Every corner screams 'authentic North Shore heritage,' from the rustic stone accents to the panoramic views of the lake that make you feel like you're in a postcard from Minnesota's golden age. It's not just a bar; it's a living piece of Duluth history, perfect for sunset sipping or cozy fall afternoons. And the craft beers? Absolute perfection! They pour local legends on tap, with rotating seasonal brews that hit every note—crisp IPAs with piney hops, smooth stouts that warm you up against the lake chill, and fruity sours that pair insanely well with their pub grub (pro tip: get the fish and chips for that true lakeside vibe). The staff are beer wizards, recommending flights that'll make any hophead swoon. It's the kind of spot where you lose track of time, chatting with locals about Duluth's wild history while the waves lap in the background. The ONLY downside? The bees are in GREAT numbers during fall peak season—think a buzzing squadron that might photobomb your pint! 🐝😂 I had to do a little dance to shoo them away, but honestly, it added to the adventure (nature's way of saying 'welcome to the outdoors!'). Just bring some bug spray or snag an indoor spot if you're bee-phobic—it's a minor hiccup in an otherwise flawless experience. Duluth locals and travelers, this is your sign to go! Historic charm, killer craft beer, and views that'll make your Instagram explode. Who's braving the bees with me? Tag a friend and let's make this spot famous! #SirBenedictsDuluth #CraftBeerLovers #MinnesotaAdventures #HistoricPatioVibes #BeeHiveBar #LakeSuperiorEats #ViralDuluth #Travel

During a recent business trip to Duluth, I was in the mood for a good sandwich for dinner and was steered toward Sir Bene’s by the hotel receptionist — and I’m so glad I went! The atmosphere was fantastic, with an impromptu Irish jam session happening that evening. The musicians were excellent and added such a fun, cozy vibe to the place. I ordered the portobello sandwich, which was delicious — hearty and flavorful, and I was that I held the mayo because the sandwich doesn't need it. Although I didn't drink, they have a huge variety of draught beers. Overall, a great experience all around. Highly recommended!

Ate here for the first time on Friday evening. It was bustling and I really enjoyed the atmosphere inside along with the awesome service and food. I ordered the British Dip with aus jus which was juicy, fresh and quite excellent along with a few of the local beers they had on tap. Selection for both sandwiches and beer was plenty, and I'm definitely looking forward to swinging by when I'm up in Duluth again. Keep up the great work!

Love Creamery in Canal Park is the go-to spot for delicious homemade ice cream in Duluth. They offer a wide range of flavors, including traditional options like dark chocolate and mint chocolate chip, as well as unique creations such as vegan chai and vegan rocky road to cater to dietary requirements. The commitment to using local ingredients and sustainable practices has made Love Creamery a popular choice among locals.
Stumbled upon this adorable new ice cream spot while walking around the neighborhood, and I’m so glad I did! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with big smiles and ice-cold water (a total lifesaver on a hot day). The place feels super clean, fresh, and welcoming — you can tell the team takes pride in their shop. They’ve got plenty of seating, both inside and out, which makes it a perfect little hangout spot. Great for dates, families, or just a solo treat-yourself moment. Now, the important part: the ice cream. Absolutely delicious — super creamy, not overly sweet, and you can taste the quality in every bite. We went with the coffee bean, vanilla and salted caramel — they were hits. Also… be warned (in a good way) — the portion sizes are HUGE. I couldn’t finish mine, and that never happens. Extra points for the vibe — music playing softly, cute decor, and just a warm, friendly atmosphere. Feels like the kind of place that will become a regular neighborhood favorite real soon. Highly recommend swinging by if you’re nearby!

Love Creamery is a must-visit for ice cream lovers. They have an incredible variety of unique flavors, the Goat Cheese Honeycomb is a standout, perfectly creamy with sweet crunch, and the Salted Chocolate Brownie is just as amazing. They also offer plenty of vegan ice cream options with vegan toppings, plus homemade waffle cones and even ice cream flights, which are a fun way to sample it all. The shop itself is bright, clean, and welcoming, and the staff couldn’t be nicer. A Duluth gem that combines creativity, quality, and great service.

We waited in line for a while, but once we reached the counter, it was nice to see that they offered samples of their flavors. They don't have the usual options like plain strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla, but the flavors they do have are really tasty. I ordered two scoops of the apple crisp, and I have to admit we couldn't resist and started eating before snapping a picture. It was delicious, and we'll definitely be back the next time we're in town. The customer service was great too. There was a gal working there in a red shirt who wasn't even the one helping us, yet she still took the time to talk and ask where we were visiting from. I also really liked the décor; it added to the overall experience.

We visited Love Creamery during a recent trip to Duluth and were not disappointed! Unique flavors, delicious ice cream, and friendly staff. We have an adventurous eater and a pickier eater, and everyone was able to find something they liked. The shop was very busy even on a cool, brisk afternoon, but the line moved quickly. Wish we lived closer so we could try more of their interesting flavor offerings! We will definitely be back when we are in Duluth again!

So insanely good - highly recommend getting a flight. Easy to share between two or three people. We got a flight with: * Salted Caramel (gf) and fall 2025 seasonal flavors: * London Fog (gf) * Chokeberry Chip (gf) * Cinnamon Snickerdoodle (gf) * Apple Crisp (gf) * Goatcheese Honeycomb (gf) Our favorite was the goat cheese honeycomb hands down (sweet but a lil savory) So insanely tasty! Second fav was London Fog which tasted JUST LIKE the drink! All the other flavors were good too, just hqrd to compete with how exceptional those two were. Staff were efficient and professional - line moves quicker than you’d think!

Flavors and textures. Can't complain. Salted caramel and dark chocolate would be my top 2 out of the 6 I had. Ordering the flight, i expected a sampler portion. And not a feast 😅. Also when they say you can sample to pick your flavors. They are not kidding. They will let you try them all if you must. (Be warned)🤣

Friendly. First time visit to this location in Duluth. Late night snack. Didn’t realize they closed at 9pm. Staff gave no indication it was closing time which was very nice. My waffle cone had chocolate at the bottom which is a great bonus. Enjoyed the Butter Toffee and a scoop of Pistachio.
