Lake Lacar Waterfront offers a stunning natural landscape with crystal clear waters and incredible views. Visitors can take a boat trip from the pier to explore nearby attractions like Quila Quina, a charming forest village on the opposite shore. The area is not crowded, making it worth the drive for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
Great little town in the middle of Los Andes. You can visit it same day round trip or stay overnight and get some rest. It has some very good restaurants where you can appreciate the lake.

Nice view of the lake, next to city downtown and beach side. Have to be aware of the wind, which can be strong and cold. If it weren't for the sun, is a little uncomfortable.
Francisco F — Google review
Lake Lácar is pure magic. The moment you arrive, you’re greeted by crystal-clear waters surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks and lush forests—it’s the kind of view that stops you in your tracks. Whether you’re relaxing on the beach, kayaking on the calm water, or just taking in the sunset, it feels like you’re in a postcard. The air is crisp and clean, and the whole area has a peaceful energy that’s hard to put into words. Perfect for a quiet moment alone or a scenic afternoon with loved ones. Truly one of the most beautiful spots in Patagonia—an absolute must-visit.

Great place. A smaller version of Bariloche. Don't get a pizza at the great looking restaurant across from boat dick and beach

A great place, you can see the lake, mountains sourronding. You can swim. The only problem it acts like a funnel, and it can be REALLY windy

Scenic Drives
Embark on a breathtaking journey along the Ruta de los Siete Lagos, also known as the Seven Lakes road, for an unforgettable day trip from San Martin. This scenic drive offers mesmerizing views of the Andean landscapes and takes you past seven stunning lakes: Espejo, Correntoso, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner, Machonico, and Lacar.
Wow. Probably the most beautiful drive in the world. Don't forget to go to Villa Traful as well. Make sure to take your time when coming so you can stop wherever you want and take amazing pictures. Also a great tip is to look for hikes before heading there so you can take a brake from driving to go up a mountain or near a lake.
Max L — Google review
A must when in the area. You can take guided tour or drive yourself all the way. The second option is more appropriate if you’re a good driver. Beautiful views.
Alberto C — Google review

Danielle S — Google review

Marie H — Google review
Beautiful drive with loads of adventure! From horses, cows, and sheep temporarily blocking the highway to long winding roads between snowcapped mountains, green valleys, and mirror lakes ... this route had it all. We drove it at the end of winter, but I think it's probably amazing year round. San Martin de Los Andes and Villa Angostura are two essential stops along the route. You can expect it to take all day but there's really no need to leave early unless you really want to savor every view point. You can get to San Martin for a late lunch or early dinner, then head back to Bariloche, assuming that's where you started. Staying the night in any of the three towns is probably easy. I saw a lot of signs showing availability. Driving through the Andes is an incredible experience, and I think this route might be one of the best. Of note, one route was under construction and didn't feel safe to drive. It was Route 65 to Villa Traful. Every other road felt very safe and comfortable.

Below is a summary of the main points: Lago Espejo/Lake Mirror Enrique Wolff, an explorer, visited the lake in 1895 and named it Lake Espejo or Mirror to reflect how amazed he was at a lake that reflects as a mirror Lago Correntoso Chilean immigrants, who were farmers, first arrived here in 1898. They started growing wheat, potatoes, and oat , and raising cows and sheep. Throughout the region, there are numerous farmers with families on both sides of the border. The Argentinian border officers don’t bother them with papers as they use alternative routes. Lago Villarino Named after the Explorer who around 1750 wrote numerous dairies and maps which were critical for the Spanish civilization of Patagonia. Lago Falkner Lago Falkner’s, white sandy beach. Argentinian Explorers initially named this lake Moreno, honoring Perito Moreno. He renamed the lake. Thomas Falkner, in honor of an English Jesuit Explorer. Lago Escondido Escondido, in Spanish means hidden, the lake is truly hidden in a secluded location inside the forest. You will need to jump over to go down and appreciate it’s beauty
George B — Google review
Absolutely magical. Take route 40 at least from Bariloche to San Martín De Los Andes. I promise you, you won't regret it. Possibly the most picturesque time is either spring or fall.
Guille P — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful roads I've ever driven. A bit over 100 kilometers, it spans between San Martín de los Andes anda Villa la Angostura, two of my favourite cities in Argentina. You can breathe nature as you drive, cycle or walk through it, with many camping sites and beaches nearby. The water in any of the seven lakes is clean and pure, the trees are green, the sky is blue, what more could you ask for? A must in anyone's bucket list

Park
Parque Nacional Lanín is a breathtaking destination that showcases the majestic Lanín volcano, surrounded by stunning araucaria trees and glacial lakes. This park offers an array of outdoor activities, including camping and hiking, making it perfect for adventure seekers. The nearby town serves as a historical gateway to the park, rich in Mapuche culture and tradition since its founding in 1883. Anglers will find paradise here with excellent fishing spots along rivers like Chimehuin and Malleo.
One of my favourite places in Argentina! I visited the park during the winter month and it was like a fairy tale. Great white Vulcan, beautiful rivers and trees. The road to the Vulcan was beautiful but the last 6 km were quite bumpy and uncomfortable, but we managed to get there with our compact car
Jeroen B — Google review
If you are doing the Route of the Seven Lakes drive in Bariloche then you will most likely make a stop here. Although Lanín is not as extensive or as beautiful as Nahuel Huapi, it was still very pretty with a lovely setting and definitely worth the stop. Parque Nacional Lanín offers a number of options for trekking and mountaineering. You can explore the vast landscape of volcanoes, plains, mountains and lakes. The forest is abundant with birds and flowers.  This is Argentina's first major long-distance trail which connects three Patagonian provinces (Neuquén, Río Negro, and Chubut) and five national parks which are Lanín, Nahuel Huapi, Los Arrayanes, Lago Puelo and Los Alerces.

Ice cream shop
Nestled just a block away from the vibrant Plaza San Martin, Mamusia stands as the town's pioneering chocolate shop, dating back to when San Martin de los Andes began its journey as a tourist hotspot in the early 1980s. Housed in a charming cultural heritage building on an iconic corner, this delightful establishment is run by the third generation of a Polish family who lovingly preserves their grandmother Mamusia's cherished recipes. The menu features artisanal chocolates and ice creams that are simply irresistible.
Found by an accident (passing by) and what a revelation it was! Amazing little shop with endless options of chocolate sweets and a bit of Polish atmosphere (decorated with our regional paper cutouts). Lovely!

Oh my god! This is the ice cream to die for. My guilt my pleasure was kinder. Chunky chocolate pieces in vanilla ice cream. They have a lovely courtyard where you can enjoy the ice cream. The price is expensive, but considering the flavor and that it’s made right there. Its worth it.
Kairi L — Google review
Founded by a Polish woman, the shop sells chocolates and delicious ice-cream. Many flavours to choose from. Staff members are helpful. The colourful patterns on the outside of the building are examples of typical Polish paper cutouts from the Mazovia region, used a long time ago to decorate traditional homes. Lowicz Cutout (Polish: wycinanka łowicka) is the most famous type of this form of art in Poland.
Christopher W — Google review
The chocolates are not very good (comparing against others in the same area) but the ice cream is really good, with a great variety and very unique flavours. The attention is OK, nothing special, but what really makes this place stand out is the lovely garden were you can sit while enjoying your ice cream: full of roses, with a water fountain and amazingly well preserved (it always seems brand new, the white painting and the motifs on the wall always seem to be painted like a few hours ago)

San Martin Plaza is a charming and well-maintained square located in the heart of San Martin de Los Andes. It offers a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to unwind and enjoy the surroundings. The square features a local artisan market, where visitors can explore unique crafts and products. Additionally, there are water fountains that children love playing in during the warm Patagonian summer days.
Great public square, very safe also. Free WiFi available, artesian market, water fountains that kids love running through. Nice place to hangout

Nice, small but very clean and well kept (like everything in San Martin de Los Andes) square. Much less busy than the lake side, it is a great place where to relax, hang out, visit the local artisan market (on the square) and bring the kids to play with the fountains that shoot water straight from the ground in the warm (and rarely hot) days of Patagonian summer. Like the rest of the town it is a very, very safe place for everyone. Of course there is a statue of San Martin De Los Andes at the center of San Martin de Los Andes square, on San Martin de Los Andes boulevard, in San Martin de Los Andes town!

Nestled in the picturesque town of San Martin de los Andes, Mamuschka is a delightful chocolate shop that has been enchanting visitors since its inception in Bariloche. Known for its signature product, the timbal, which has won over many hearts, this charming establishment expanded to San Martin in 2018. Here, you can find an array of artisan treats inspired by colorful Russian dolls and crafted with care from locally sourced ingredients.
Mamuschka is an Ice cream shop typical from the Patagonia, and has one of the best ice creams I have tried in argentina🍦. This store is small, but is has a lot of flavors available, all of them delicious. The service is super friendly and attentive. I actually left my bag and the clerks put it away until I realized and came back 1 h later. So nice of them 🙏🏼.
Trachemysta — Google review
Mamuschka in San Martín is a charming stop for anyone with a sweet tooth. The store itself is beautifully designed—playful, inviting, and full of character. The chocolates are on the sweeter side, which may not be for everyone, but they’re still tasty and satisfying. Prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality and presentation. A lovely spot to grab some treats or gifts while exploring the town.
Jared B — Google review
There are genuinely no words I can use to describe how good this ice cream is. Pistachio is the best flavor. Intense chocolate is indeed intense. Go, enjoy, die happy at an old age knowing you’ve had the best ice cream in the world.

The place is very nice and the chocolates are great. The only thing that disappoints a little is the variety and quantity of ice creams they have to offer here: just a dozen (maybe less) flavours and of the most common ones. I came for the hot chocolate and was very disappointed. Out of 7 they have on the menu only one was available, and it was not good, the Leche y chocolate en Rama semiamargo, barely had a chocolate taste at all. Do not believe all the good reviews for this place. Breakfast was scarce with only a few pastries available. This is a chocolatier, nothing else is available. Very disappointing. Find breakfast and hot chocolate somewhere else in San Martin.

The chocolate fondue we took there was good even the chocolate wasn’t perfect. I’m rating this low because of poor service quality, especially the manager? (I guess) it’s so rude to eye someone up and down.

Fulisek P — Google review
Great place and cofee/chocolate, waffles are good too, its a little pricey but its worth it. Stay away from milkshakes though, they are terrible. So, you're probably asking yourself why I put 2 stars on this place if everything but milshakes are good. Well, we arrived early in the morning and there was just one other customer other than us on the place. We got handed the menu and asked what we will be having. We kindly told her that we will read the menu and get back to her, and I kid you not: she stood there and started clapping her fingers until we decided. This is not the only place on San Martin de los Andes where we got treated like that. I just don't understand why they get angry with people for reading the menu, its ridiculous. It isn't like the place was full and they needed the chairs, and we had just arrived, it was early in the morning.

Mirador Bandurrias offers stunning views of Lago Lacar extending westward towards the Chilean border. The ascent provides glimpses of the city, and visitors can choose to hike or drive to reach the mirador. The trail begins behind the wastewater treatment plant at the end of Juez del Valle street, with signs indicating the way. There is an entrance fee and a moderate one-hour walk to reach the mirador, with an additional 40-minute walk to a beach view.
it's definitely a hike up so bring lots of water - but the views are absolutely worth it! please note that you have to pay 5.000 pesos to enter Mapuche territory (2.000 if you're a resident of SMA).

It’s amazing place to trek from the city. Easy and not difficult.from here you can have a nice view of the Lago Lacar and the snow clad mountains. The wind sometimes are very strong but seeing the view from here is really nice and amazing. I am sure that you will saw “wow” once you will reach here. There is a small fee of 1500 AR$ which the indigenous Mapuche peoples charge for the upkeep of the place but it is worth it
Imrajiv84 — Google review
Unique viewpoint and must see. It’s a hard and long drive on a gravel road, but doable with a normal sedan on a dry day. Can walk to it from San Martin de los Andes a d it probably takes the same amount of time. The Mapuche tribe sold tickets to the area for $5,000 pesos pp or about USD $5 each.
Lucas T — Google review
Please be aware that the fee is now 5,000 Argentine Pesos per adult if driving and 2,000 if walking. The view is pleasant but not outstanding for the area. The price of $20USD for 4 adults in a car is far too much for this very brief and unremarkable experience.
Simon K — Google review
Might be the best view of Lago Lacar, with a short distance hike approximately 1 hour up hill from San Martin.
Sagie R — Google review
Nice hike from the town if you are without a car. Views were nice. We paid $5000 per person to enter the view point, which seems extortionate, I think there might be a route to avoid this if needed. Later on we got chased by dogs near the water near a random house so be careful of this.
Emma B — Google review
This is an uphill hike with a lot of switch backs. We loved the views all along the hike and would definitely do this hike. It took about an hour to get to the top. It’s worth it! Bring trekking poles if you have them. It will save your knees and shins on the way down.

The Dublin South Pub is a nice pub with high prices that can be expected in Patagonia. The service was good, but the food took a long time to arrive and then they charged for the appetizer we only ordered because we were hungry after an hour and a half had passed and it never arrived. We demolished the appetizer and were barely hungry when mediocre food arrived. If not for company, we would have left, but the patio is nice.
By far the best place to either, have coffee, or snacks or dining. Irish themed pub, lots of drinks to choose from, and a huge menu of beers. Great food 🥑 Also dogs are welcome here, definitely a plus for them. Kudos 🎉

Great upper patio when the sun is out! We had a pint and some appies. It was food style food and was good. The challenge is sitting outside and people smoking around you. This would denture us from going back outside.

Great pub like 4 blocks from the lake. Across the street from the main park with vendors. The food is great and the vibe is truly one of a small Irish pub. The patio options are great as well there's a heated section with glass walls for wind blocking. There's a section in front right by the street for those seeking an actual deck/patio experience. Edit: I'm back 3 years later and it's still the great Irish inspired bar that I remember.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's really not Irish, don't be fooled. The place is fine for a drink and some food, but as with most places around here its overpriced. I ordered a vegan burger with roasted vegetables, its really great they offer some vegan food, but it was just a patty not a burger as you can see in the photo. The roasted vegetables were nice but you don't get a lot. Pretty disappointed and I wouldn't come back If this review was helpful please give it a like :) enjoy

Just bad experience! I went in and sat at a table for a long time and they didn't even attend to me. I got up and went to the cashier to order and they told me to go back to the table and they would send someone and I waited a few more times and they never attended to me.

Restaurant is on great location. Serving was okay and kind, problem is the language as a tourist you can't talk in English, the same is for the menu. We ordered 5 steaks. After the order they told us that they dont enough mashed potatoes, so two of us got the salad instead of mashed potatoes. No big deal for me, but still they could tell us before it. 3/5 were disappointed about "cooking level". We ordered medium, but got the well done. This was a disappointment, so that's why a star less.

Nice restaurant with great views of the lake. The food is fine. We had the pulled pork sandwich which was solid and smoked salmon sandwich that leaned creamy. The portions were rather large.

I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how dirty the floor was – crumbs, spills, and what looked like it hadn’t been swept all day. I tried to look past it, but things only got worse. We waited nearly an hour for our food, which would have been frustrating enough if the restaurant had been busy – but it wasn’t full. When the food finally arrived, it wasn’t even what I ordered, a well too overcooked steak(I ordered it to be rare). To top it off, the dish had absolutely no flavor. It felt like no effort had been put into the preparation. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was just too bad to ignore. I won’t be coming back and i dont recomend you to go too despite the good reviews that led me to eat here.

Great place to eat while looking at the lake. Everything in this town is crazy expensive, this isn’t that expensive, this is a little less expensive and a bit more worthy. The staff is great, the view is amazing and the chicken sandwiches are pretty good. The bathroom could be cleaned more often.

Great place! Large portions, fresh ingredients and reasonable prices. Recommended: smoked trout and deer, smoothies
Ariel C — Google review
By far one of the best experience in San Martin. The service is great since you are waiting for a table: fair without distinction. The food is amazing, wide variety (sandwiches, burgers, pasta, meat, salads, pastries), an unforgettable green apple juice, nice beers with fair prices even being in the best place of the city: in front of the Lake.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of San Martin de los Andes, Pantera Bar Bistro has become a beloved culinary hotspot over the past 14 winters. Spearheaded by Nicolas Urquiza, this charming restaurant is not just a dining destination but also a vibrant social hub for both locals and visitors alike.
We had sushi, which was delicious. The welcoming freshly baked bread and sauce with it, very nice. Paula was our waitress, and was very friendly and atentful. The place is cool and perfect for families, friends and couples.

Overall a great tasting sushi spot with impressive customer service. Sushi was done with quality seaweed, nice sticky rice; and tasty cream cheese. I really enjoyed them. The pasta was a little too salty, but with a lot of flavor and healthy portion of meat inside overall tasty. What was most impressive was the service that was quick attentive and went a long way to explain the food and drink options. Would recommend!

Such a lucky place we were standing right in front when googling for a place to eat with Vegan options. It was in the top 3 best meals we had across Chile and Argentina. The vegan sushi rolls (3 vegan options) were amazing, the seitan was superb and the vegan gnocchi were great. Wines were tasty and service was super attentie and friendly (thanks Paula). The atmosphere is very nicely done too. It is on the second floor, so from the street search for the 'panter' sign / door. :).

Great food and choice of wine - and most of all very welcoming services (Muchas gracias Paula!) We had the chicken teriyaki and rice, as well as an Argentinian boutique sparking wine - feels almost like a cosy Argentinian “izakaya” experience

Torino Bar & Bistró is a highly sought-after restaurant in San Martin de los Andes, known for its gourmet dishes and unique flavors. The extensive menu offers a variety of options to cater to all tastes, and the high-quality presentation of the dishes adds to the dining experience. It's advisable to make reservations in advance due to its popularity. The restaurant also prides itself on providing excellent service and a wide selection of Argentine wines. Additionally, it accommodates special dietary requirements.
Great experience at Torino. Drinks were original and super tasty. And for food, mostly delicious. The vegan sushi was really good, maybe some more “cheese” would’ve been nice since I couldn’t see it or taste it much. The vegan gnocchi was pretty good, great texture but maybe was missing a little flavor. Super kind staff, Diego was fun and super helpful since he himself was vegan. Will definitely return.

The best sushi and cocktails in town without a doubt. I spent one month in San Martin and this is by far the best restaurant. I've been there multiples times. Always felt really welcomed, every body is smiling and making sure you are having a great experience. The main barman is very skilled, don't hesitate to ask for a surprise, he won't dissapoint! I'm going to miss this place and should not have gone to Panthera on my last evening to compare with Torino.

This is a great place to eat and have a good time, one of the owners came out to greet us when we went there to have dinner and was very welcoming. The staff is great and they make you feel at home with good food, ambiance and service. The decorations made me feel as if I were back home in New York City. We would definitely go there again. As a plus, it's open until 12:30, making it a great choice for the night owls.

The restaurant was super nice and cozy. From Esteban, who receive us, The waitress Ornella who was super nice and friendly, she gave us really good recommendations , to the bartender Tartu who made awesome drinks for us, the atmosphere was fantastic but there was a waitress that she made the place kind of weird and with a bad vibe. We were sitting in the bar, First she try to took one of our menus while we where looking at because “she didn’t have enough for the rest of the people” where the hell did you see that before? Then she was just kind of weird with everything in general. Besides that, we had sushi and it was delicious, well prepared and presented. And they gave us a gave us a glass of champagne for courtesy. i would come back. Thanks!

On Wednesdays it's a good place to have some drinks and dance a little. Mostly it's electronic music but there is some latin music too. Prices are ok for a pub
Manuel R — Google review
This place is overrated. Some things were not right, starting with the food, the trout did not taste so good, the salad was not what I expected, would not go back, having so many other good places in town.
