Bridge
Historical landmark
The Iron Bridge, constructed in 1779, stands as a remarkable symbol of Britain's industrial heritage. The project involved various stakeholders and partners, including Historic England and the local authority. Funding was provided by English Heritage and donors like the Hermann Reemtsma Foundation from Germany. This iconic bridge, located in Severn Gorge, revolutionized bridge construction with its single cast iron arch spanning 100 feet across the gorge.
See other review (Robin Hood pub), which covers this beautiful town in much more detail. I will travel back here one day and spend more time. Unfortunately, I was on my way home, having finished a week away, so I ran out of time. Beautiful place with beautiful people what's more to say. Go visit. I'm sure you'll fall in love with the place, I did.
Fred W — Google review
The Iron Bridge is seriously impressive, especially when you see it in person. It’s such an important landmark—the first of its kind—and you can really appreciate the engineering and history behind it. Walking across the bridge with the river below and the surrounding old industrial buildings gives you a real sense of stepping back in time. Plus, the nearby museums and trails make it a great spot to explore for a few hours. Definitely worth a visit!
K E — Google review
I love the area, so scenic and classic English feeling to the town. On this occasion I was passing and stopped for a drink and a sausage roll. Visited many times before, lots to see do and enjoy. Great for families.
Daniel S — Google review
Beautiful bridge with lovely views over the River Severn - free to see and walk across, and a prime spot in town. Built in 1779, it was the world’s first bridge made of cast iron and became a symbol of the Industrial Revolution. Be sure to pop into the small Tollhouse museum beside it for more insight into its fascinating history.
Becky T — Google review
Ironbridge is an absolutely beautiful place with the world's first iron bridge. We planned to stay here for two days, but we're going to stay for another, because there is so much to see and do. We bought a ticket to all of the Ironbridge museums. It's well worth the money, and the various museums give a wonderful insight into the industrial heritage of the area. If you don't want to pay for the museums, there are enough free museums and lovely shops and walks along the river, in woodlands and in the valleys and gorges.
Alison L — Google review
Fantastic landmark, well worth a visit. You can really feel the history of the place. The town is stunning as well, like something from a film. Incredible.
Sam K — Google review
I remember having to learn about this bridge in GCSE Geography. So much more impressive to actually see it. I do like a good bridge, and this one was a masterpiece of technical wizardry. On top of this, the setting is very pretty. The town is a delight to work around, though pretty steep(!)
Gordon D — Google review
Beautiful historic town, nice pavement cafes and indoor seats as well, Beautiful views from the Iron bridge of the river banks and cottages and nice walks along the river. Also historic museums.

Nestled within the historic Ironbridge Gorge, Jackfield Tile Museum is a captivating destination that showcases the rich heritage of tile-making in Britain. Housed in a former ceramics factory still actively producing tiles, this museum offers visitors an engaging glimpse into traditional craftsmanship through live demonstrations of tile-pressing, decorating, and firing processes.
This museum is amazing, this was the first time I have visited , the tiles are amazing such an incredible variety . There is even an interactive room where you can design a tile or do puzzles etc the children would love it as would adults . It wasn't very busy which is a shame as it really is a lovely place to visit .tucked away at the back of Ironbridge. Lovely staff brilliant place Ironbridge is just fascinating
Ann P — Google review
Interesting museum if you like that sort of thing, I thought it was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and welcoming, especially in the cafe.
Scott L — Google review
Wonderful museum about tile making in the region, the owners and how they came to be in the area, how tiles are made, different tile styles, and more. There are examples of many tiles, including mini recreations of pubs, lounges, bathrooms and more to show how tiles were used. We spent about an hour but could’ve lingered a little longer. Small cafe, shop, and toilets onsite. Parking included with Plus Pass or approx. £1.50 per hour.
Becky T — Google review
One of many museums in the historic Ironbridge area. Extensive, colourful and varied selection of ceramic tiles. So much to absorb. Excellent cafe and friendly staff. All set in a beautiful location running parallel to the river Severn. Always plenty of craft activities for children, especially throughout holiday times. Plenty of parking and much more, all within walking distance of the museum.
Tony S — Google review
A fabulous collection of beautiful tiles. The museum is calm and peaceful. The displays are an absolute joy and the whole place was both an education and a delightful experience.
Joules — Google review
The museum displays stunning tiles from the Victorian to Art Deco eras, including those that once adorned churches, railway stations, and public buildings. It also features reconstructed workshops showing the artistry and craftsmanship behind these beautiful designs.
Walaya L — Google review
We didn't really know what to expect from a 'tile' museum, but was pleasantly surprised. Our little children (1 & 4) loved the children's activities (baskets of coloured blocks and tiles to build with and make pictures) and our teenager really enjoyed finding the matching tiles in the activity pack. The museum was clean and very well set out and the tiles were beautiful. The cafe and shop were also very nice.
Amy — Google review
The tiles were stunning, I thinknI was expecting to be able to see a workshop of some sort.

Felt sorry for the girl behind the information desk when an elderly gentleman asked for some information on something out of the area. She didn't know the answer, so she offered to google it for him, for which he said, "I could have done that myself", why didn't he? Poor girl. There's not much to see here. it looks like a half-hearted job. More entertaining in the car park.
John H — Google review
It’s free & it could be interesting, to a degree. The fact that it gets flooded frequently probably presents challenges insofar as what to do with the place & the space going forwards. It seems under-utilised, rooms are half empty. Why fill them extensively if the next flood isn’t far off though?
Toxteth G — Google review
Interesting use of the old building . With a collection of the Merrythought bears & soft toys. The late Sunday effluent release into the river was a spoiler to a great day
Alan W — Google review
Lovely old building and quite a bit on the Merrythought Bear factory and local flooding, which was interesting, but not many actual exhibits...possibly due to the risk of flooding? Worth a look all the same.
Chris K — Google review
This is really worth a visit and the atmosphere is amazing it is free we went one evening so there was parking just outside the gate
Julie D — Google review
Museum with free entry, first time I have visited. It’s a cool, small museum with free toilets inside. Stuff for small kids inside too, a good idea.

A little museum free of charge, so good to pop into when you're visiting Ironbridge and seeing everything else in the area. (I visited when there was an exhibition for Merrythought's 95th birthday)

Feel like a criminal, photos on entry. money grabbing all the time as well as expensive entrance fees so unlikely to return. I've just returned from Australia where most museums and heritage venue were free entrance and public transport was cheap sometimes free so no parking charges either

Confusing about which site is which and what they do. I don't know if Google will attach this to the right pin! Visited the museum about iron, interesting, also Ingenuity nearby which is science for children. You need to get someone to explain all the ticket options and discounts (eg English heritage) . NB parking is extra at the various sites £1/hour.

Enginuity is a hands-on science museum located in the former ironworks buildings, offering interactive exhibits designed for kids to learn about science and engineering. The museum features activities such as creating power with dams at the water table, operating an interactive blast furnace, and exploring wind power stations. Visitors can also engage in experiments covering electricity, water, and wind through games and fun facts. Additionally, there are sensory rooms for younger children to relax and play while learning about scientists and engineers in the book corner.
Great place for kids with lots of hands on exhibits. 3hrs is enough for a visit. There are toilets inside. There is no cafe here but within walking distance there is one at another attraction. If your kids have a blue peter badge it's free to enter.

It was a fun place to visit, children would love it. Very interesting things to play with. Perfect for a rainy day
Scott L — Google review
Visited with kids ranging 3-7 in age. Lots of hands on experiences for everyone. My personal favourite was moving a steam locomotive by hand. The only criticism - it was absolutely boiling inside on a failry cool October day, especially on the raised walkway. Which makes me think its the lighting that generates the heat. If anyone from the museum is reading this you should switch to LEDs and save a ton of energy costs.
Serge B — Google review
Had way too much fun here. Definitely worth a visit if you get a pass plus for the locations covered in Iron Bridge. Lots of hands on STEM things to get the kids thinking!
Kate C — Google review
What a great day out. We used our pass plus and spent 3.5 happy hours here. So much to do, a place for picnics and it was amazing to see a sensory room for neurodivergent children. My favourite was trying on all the costumes and playing the video games in the visiting exhibition. We also did the toy workshop which was great
Sophie B — Google review
Really good experience for young inquisitive minds who enjoy interactive exhibits. My 5 year old son loved it. Only took us 1.5 hrs so the price is a bit steep (£12 me, £7 him). Ample parking. Toilets on site .
Sarah M — Google review
Not that large, but good fun - reminds me of 'Launchpad' at The Science Museum. Lots of interactive exhibits that kids will enjoy playing with - as always seems to be the way with these things, though, not everything works properly. The 'water cycle' exhibit was a firm favourite with #2 son, whereas the live topographic projection onto a sandpit was a winner with his older sibling. Definitely worth a visit.
Tom W — Google review
I was here 20 years ago and always longed to come back. I was not disappointed. Ingenious models demonstrating mechanical advantage. I even pulled a steam locomotive a few feet! Many museums in the area and one can get a deal on multiple visits. Just go and take the kids!

The Swan Taphouse is a charming pub with cozy rooms and a rustic restaurant, offering classic bar vibes and scenic river views. While staying above the pub, guests can expect a lively atmosphere with beer-fueled conversations and staff revelry. The picturesque surroundings of this destination offer delightful bed and breakfast accommodations that immerse visitors in local culture. Each inn or guesthouse has its own unique character, from traditional Georgian buildings to rustic cottages nestled against lush green hills.
We visited The Swan Taphouse in Ironbridge yesterday (01/09/25) and had a wonderful experience. My wife had the half rack of ribs, I had a burger with pulled pork barbecue sauce, and the kids went for chicken nuggets with chips and beans. From the outset, the service was excellent. The waitress proactively told us there were a few items that had run out and even wrote them down on a piece of paper so we knew exactly what wasn’t available. She then talked us through different options—really on the ball and attentive. Throughout the meal, the staff checked in, asking how everything was, which added to the great experience. The location is beautiful, with lovely views, and the rustic interior is charming. The food was tasty and satisfying—nothing was wrong at all. Overall, a really enjoyable meal and we’d definitely recommend it.
Alpha T — Google review
We visited the pub to listen to a local singer who was fantastic. The pub itself has a very cozy atmosphere, very clean with friendly staff. My complaint is half the menu wasn’t available, no fish, no chicken and a few other items on a decently small menu already, had garlic bread as a side but it was very hard. Parking isn’t great, but the public car park down the road is free after 5pm.
Fish T — Google review
The food was alright nothing spectacular or anything to shout about. Meat was over cooked and portion size for brisket is questionable. Gravy was very fatty and the mash potato was more mash cheese than potato. Cool bathroom. Coca Cola was only diet and didn’t taste of the premium brand that we all love and cherish. King regards Joan and Nigel green

Stood at the bar a good few minutes with three behind the bar. 1 serving, 1 putting glass in the pot wash and a third stood with her fingers on a cold wine bottle. Eventually got served. I love service with a smile, unfortunately not received here. A bonus there was a lovely band playing. Did not eat but the food looked good coming out. So come on folks it's all about customer service, improve it!

Groupon afternoon tea for me and the hubby. The food was very nice and more than enough, service was a little slow though. Thought the waitress could have been a little happier in her work... had to ask for the coffees which were supposed to be unlimited but almost felt guilty to have dared to ask for a second cup. Perhaps it was because it was a Groupon voucher 🤫

On a sunny day what a beautiful place Iron bridge is. The swan has a cracking location overlooking the river, staff, service, food and beer were all brilliant. Would have no hesitation calling again when we are back on holiday another year.

Beautiful views lovely atmosphere but no set time for kitchen closure. The gammon wasn't available even though on specials we had to order quick as kitchen was closing at 8pm??? Even our selves and others want to order.. We could only have desserts if someone was in kitchen nefore we left. Food was excellent ribs mmmm i would go again if i cpyld mange my evening meal at nursing home times.
Cazcrete — Google review
Had afternoon tea here as a birthday present, was not impressed with the service at all, we were seated at the table, after 20 mins of not being bothered with we had to ask for our drinks, the tea pot it was served in was chipped, the sugar pot had used sugar packets and spoons from previous customers, after another 10 mins we had to ask to order the food which we had been told was already put through not asked if we wanted to add extras as stated on the menu, half way through eating our mains they brought the dessert over to us and placed it on the table next to us for when we were ready, the afternoon tea comes with unlimited drinks, asking for another pot of tea seemed like it was a problem, ribs were very well cooked too. Was not impressed at all and will not be returning.

The Tontine Hotel, located in Ironbridge and dating back to the 18th century, is a charming riverside accommodation option. The hotel offers comfortable rooms with amenities such as TV, telephone, and tea/coffee facilities. Some rooms even feature picturesque river views or elegant four-poster beds. Guests can enjoy delicious meals at the on-site restaurant and bar, including a hearty full English breakfast. The hotel's proximity to the River Severn makes it an ideal choice for water activities enthusiasts.
We went twice whilst on holiday. Once for Sunday roast which was amazing. Great food, lots of it and gravy was delicious. Staff were so helpful with a fussy 11yr old and make him something different plus he got ice-cream thrown in. Also had lunch and 2 huge jacket potatoes with lots of filling and salad with homemade coleslaw. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back next visit.

Had a 2 night stay here, can't fault the place really, the rooms are a good size, and spotlessly clean, the beds are comfortable and the level of service is 2nd to none. The hotel bar ( open to the public) area ,is large and has ample seating, the bar itself is well stocked with everything from tea and coffee to wines and spirits and again the level of service is excellent. As for food , I only had breakfast but what a breakfast it was , I opted for the full English breakfast and wasn't disappointed, top quality produce cooked to perfection and although there were multiple other options available for breakfast,I would highly recommend the full English. Those were the good bits , I did have a couple of small niggles...the shower in my room didn't work ( not too much of an issue I prefer a bath anyway) , the shaving light in the bathroom didn't work and there was some unsightly wiring on the wall next to the TV , my room had a great view over the Ironbridge but the room suffered a little bit at night being close to the road and not having any double glazing , there was at times some significant noise issues but on the whole I would definitely recommend the Tontine as a place to stay and I would happily stay there again and very probably will do

Disappointing. Stopped in for morning coffees. My Flat White was just plain awfully. I could only drink a bit of it. It was in a big mug and not anything like the flat whites I have enjoyed for years. Seats were comfortable. Decor was dated. The group of 6 who came in after us were ignored and left after a while. Not good.

Stayed before in 2018 was hoping the rooms might have been refurbished by now. They are still as they were then. Just need a spruce up and a good clean. Stayed again because of the location, right opposite the bridge. Was a bit disappointed that there was no food but went to a nearby restaurant which was amazing, D'Arcys at the station.

Last minute walk in and was very impressed with both the service and the food. The Sunday dinner and sides were really good value for the money, freshly cooked and tasty. The dog thoroughly enjoyed her dinner too. Would recommend and will certainly be back.

We stayed in Ironbridge for a few days last weekend and booked the Golden Ball for Sunday lunch without realising that it was only a couple of minutes from our accommodation. And what a good choice, the lunch was absolutely delicious with melt in the mouth beef and all the trimmings. The staff were really good and made sure we had everything we needed. Also good cask beer and excellent wine selection. It is at the top of a hill but there is a big car park and two garden areas. Would recommend

Well worth the visit! and I wish there was a 4.5 stars available as that would be better suited. Service was incredible, food was amazing but my only small critical point was the beef was very chewy and roasties could of been cooked a little longer (but don't let that put you off going) Great location and a mouthwatering menu that made me want to explore more of it. Great staff and lovely choice of alcohol :) Will certainly return
Ben M — Google review
Terrible Experience – Appalling Customer Service, Overcooked and Burnt Food! We had a lovely day out with our young children and chose The Golden Ball Inn based on its 4.5-star reviews. Sadly, the reality could not have been further from that. We ordered steak with peppercorn sauce, onion rings, chips, and two pizzas (Margherita and chicken & BBQ). The pizzas were overcooked, one so badly the crust was rock solid and inedible. I tried a couple of slices and politely raised the issue with the young male bar staff (in his twenties), even showing him the crust. He said he would speak to the chef but never returned. The lack of communication left me frustrated. When I went to pay, he tried to charge me for the full bill of £54, including the pizzas. When I refused, he became defensive, dictating what I “would” pay, even claiming that if I’d eaten any pizza, I would have to pay. How dare he dictate to a customer? His behaviour was shocking and is the main reason I am writing this review. The chef (a woman in her 50s) came out after being called. I showed her the burnt pizza crusts, which my children had refused to eat. She dismissed my concerns, claiming “this is how they always come out” and still expected payment. Handling our food after serving during a dispute only reinforced that no customer should pay for it. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, food must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. These pizzas were not. I was fully within my legal rights to refuse payment and even offered to leave my details if they wanted to pursue the matter in small claims court — not meet me with arrogance and hostility at the bar. I paid only for the items that were acceptable (steak, onion rings, chips), but instead of professionalism, I was met with defensiveness, hostility, and effectively told I was “not welcome back.” This ruined our evening so much that I didn’t eat anything at all afterwards. Even if the food had been excellent, the staff’s behaviour alone would have spoiled it. They would not take feedback on board and only acted when I insisted repeatedly. As someone with experience in leadership and hospitality, neither the young barman nor the chef showed professionalism, accountability, or service. The owner needs to ensure staff cook food properly, understand customer rights, and prioritise satisfaction over arguing with customers. The young staff member, in particular, needs to reflect on his behaviour or step away from customer-facing roles. My wife’s grandmother ran two successful pubs, and my stepfather ran his own, this is not how customers are treated. I strongly advise anyone to avoid this place and spend their money elsewhere.

Called up to see if they where serving food after reading reviews to be told kitchen closed at 8pm Wednesdays but all other nights 9pm fair enough so next day Thursday turned up 8pm to be told kitchen closed so i explained that i called to yesterday and was told 9pm the kitchens closed she shrugged and said it was quite tonight so chef went home. You don't have booking but no one said on our call we need to book in an obviously not so busy restaurant if its closed before 8pm let alone 9pm on most evenings. No apology nothing. What a poor way to run a business

Booked an Airbnb here, really lovely space above the pub and what a great pub? Good beers, yummy food and most of all, really helpful staff. Utterly brilliant pub!

Great Sunday Roast £47 for 3 generous roasts & drinks included (2 adults + 1 Golden Retriever 🐶) Selection of meat was very generous, we struggled to finish, veggies were nicely cooked and Yorkshire pudding plus gravy sauce a perfect combo The restaurant has a nice rusting, homie, local type vibe it’s very cozy and everyone at the venue was super friendly Good customer service as well you can tell the owners take great pride of their business. Cant wait to come back again especially winter time as I’ve noticed a few fire places inside so it will be so whimsical

Two of us dined here Sunday afternoon. I cannot compliment the food enough. The roast beef melted in my mouth and the cauliflower cheese was out of this world. Highly recommend

The Water Rat Inn, nestled in the picturesque Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, is a charming 4-star Georgian establishment offering airy rooms and complimentary breakfast. Situated just 1.6 kilometers from historic Ironbridge and boasting a riverside location, this inn provides a relaxed atmosphere with a restaurant and bar on-site. Guests praise the friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and delicious yet reasonably priced food.
Booked this place as a last minute bank holiday Monday for 6 of the family. It’s a very pleasant pub with warm, hands on staff who do seem to care. We had a mix of sandwiches and also their meat/fish combo shared which were huge and very filling. Nice easy quick serving with drinks at the bar. It’s got a nice big beer garden, decent sized car park, it’s fenced off with a gate from the river which you can access if you want a stroll towards Iron bridge. A nice visit, well worth a try.

Went for a family meal, such a nice place. Easy parking, benches on the riverside to eat or drink at during this lovely weather (while it lasts). Food was delicious and reasonably priced, everything was clean and the staff were on the ball without being pushy. This is my go to place for a meal out👍 Didn't stay overnight so can't comment on accommodation

Turned up out the blue one evening and it was quiet but it was a Monday and close to food service ending however the staff were courteous, attentive and helpful. Ordered kids and adults mains and they were all great, maybe a slight criticism would be the burgers were a little tough to chew but enjoyed all the same. Drinks all seemed fairly standard priced. Lovely setting but not the best walk with kids with narrow footpaths towards Ironbridge

Our All Together Group from Birmingham visited iron bridge today. We were 11 in our group and our first stop was to have lunch at The Water Rat Inn. This place is in an amazing location near to the Iron bridge. The restaurant is really good with very nice seating inside, outside and in the ground overlooking the river and another bridge. Plenty of free parking available on site. One can walk along the river to the famous Iron bridge which we all did after having lunch. Talking about Lunch, we were seated inside with nice ambience overlooking the car park and grounds next to river and bridge. The staff were very welcoming and helpful in talking our food and drinks orders. The price is reasonable. When the food was served, it looked so appealing to look at and good potion sizes. All items eaten were really tasty and delicious. We did not have room for dessert (may be next time) Thank you to all the staff for looking after us and the service provided. We definitely recommend this place to all and will definitely return.

Popped in for Sunday lunch whilst out on a walk. Amazing! The gravy was the best I have tasted. Lots of sides and extra gravy without asking too! Very impressed. They do put a service charge on your bill but you can ask for it to be removed. We felt it was worth it so didn't remove it.

Fantastic service and location. Sarah was funny and welcoming, very attentive and made us feel like nothing was a bother at all. A nice Picturesque garden for an evening sat by the river. Food was great tasty and hot when it came out to us great experience.

History Museums
Blists Hill Victorian Town is a living museum situated in the Ironbridge Gorge near Telford, Shropshire, England. This open-air museum transports visitors back to the 19th century, offering a vivid portrayal of life during the Victorian era. The town features restored industrial sites such as coal and iron mines, blast furnaces, and ceramic works alongside a charming Victorian townscape complete with various shops and businesses.
Fantastic day out to this living museum. Set in 1900 dozens of buildings have been moved brick by brick to this site and faithfully recreated. Staffed by knowledgeable people who take on roles in the shops and houses dressed in period costume, they great you and give you an wealth of information. We started in the Bank where we changed modern cash into shillings and pence which can be spent in many of the shops. We went around the shops there was so much to see, grocers, butchers, bakers, candlestick makers, sweet shop to name but a few. There are various houses, a school, a fairground the list just goes on. Catering is great and not over priced, you can get traditional fish and chips for £9 in the chip shop or there are two other large cafeteria. It was a fantastic day out with so much to see. I bought the really great value Pass Plus, you can go back as many times as you like in 12 months to this and about 5 other museums in Iron Bridge, you get free parking, VIP fast track entry and 10% off catering and gift shops. Real Value for money and well worth supporting. It was a great day out.

Fun, historic town. Lots of great little shops that have been used to fill lots of the buildings with authentic businesses from around 1900. In proper dress and character docents. Terrific stop for anyone driving through ironsgate village. Super nice area for kids to play and experience what it was like 125 years ago. Loved this place, but too many stores had no one to explain what you were looking at. The fish and chips were fresh and delicious

Absolutely amazing place. I’ve never visited before but really wanted to come here. Going to the bank and changing cash to Victorian money was fun, and going around the whole site you could pay in modern money or Victorian money which made it interactive and fun. We had a carriage ride with the Shire Horse, and joined the sing along in the pub. We booked a slot in the Victorian photographers, so looked around the site before that. Almost every shop/house/building had a “Victorian” in who were always happy to talk and were very knowledgeable about their “trade”. If they weren’t in, they would have a clock saying the time they would be back. We played a game in the fairground and learnt lots around the site. Even the baker was baking Victorian goods in a Victorian oven (though now electric) which you could buy, and you could buy sweets in the sweet shop. The highlight of the trip was the Victorian photo shoot! It was £30 for up to 6 people, so with only 2 of us was a little pricey but I really wanted to give it ago. They had a whole wardrobe of outfits, and the photographer was very knowledgeable with what outfits went together, and how to pose. We had great fun taking the photos, and could have 1 photo printed (or extra for £10 each) which included a digital copy. Would definitely recommend the Victorian photo shoot! But may be worth booking a slot at the start of the day. Overall lovely place with lovely staff, now one of my favourite places!!

Really enjoyed our visit to Blists Hill Victorian Town. I haven’t been here since I came with my primary school, so glad to see it’s still as amazing at 23 as it was back when I was 8 (I walked in and remembered the layout and the fun memories of my school trip there, if that doesn’t speak volumes of how amazing this place was and has continued to be then I don’t know what could) . Went as a family day out with our dog, we were amazed at how dog friendly it was, out of everything there were only two places we couldn’t go with our dog which was no bother and completely understandable (sweet shop & bakery). The animals located in the town were well cared for and friendly with knowledgable handlers who were more than happy to answer questions, clearly knew the animals likes and dislikes and spoke fondly of their quirks showing a love and dedication for their four legged cast members. Our favourite Victorian character was the local police man (and his “cousin” singing in the pub - who was a very good singer). We met him on our way in and straight away were greeted with a welcoming warmth before he directed us towards our first stop of the day the post office for our very own dog licence which was decently priced as were a lot of items sold in their other shops around the town. My mum’s favourite activity was George’s carriage ride. The beautiful boy took us both and our dog around the town, he looked happy and well taken care of which as long term animal people it was a joy to see him comfortable and enjoying his work. My favourite stop off was the last one of the day for us. It was the printing shop which we visited after having a ride around the town in George’s carriage. Inside the printers we were taken through the different printers, how they are used to help create prints for the village and answered our questions from possibilities of injuries to how the different printers work in terms of changing letters, sizing of letters etc (it looked like a lot of fun and now I wish I could own one). we came away with a couple of notebooks and a postcard that fit perfectly in with Halloween. We will definitely be looking at Blists Hill Victorian Town for future day trips out, and we hope next time we visit we’re in the season for the use of the fair ground as it would have been lovely to have seen those in use.

Wow..What a excellent Victorian Town Everything as it was back in the day. You feel like you're in the Victorian Era. I got myself a one off adult single ticket, £27 Oct 2025 prices, you can buy a multiple pass to see other extractions which works out cheaper in Ironbridge area. It started with a short guided tour at 11.30 with Emily, She was so friendly, kind and so enthusiastic and told us all along short history about the town. The Town itself has shops,Bank, butchers ,bakery, clothing shop and a forerunner to WH Smith with a post office, and plenty of other shops. And don't forget to have a sing song at the pub on the corner The mine as well is a great reminder about how hard it was to work here and the forge, and the tile factory. The houses are open so as you enter you will find now and again a person dressed up and he or she will tell you about the house. There's a few places to eat and have hot/cold drinks. I had a trip as well in the carriage with George the shire horse pulling us around the town. The car park, you pay on exit ,just make a note on what time you actually park. I paid ( £6 for 5hrs, Oct 2025 prices) A must visit while you're are in the area of Ironbridge.

I visited Blists Hill Victorian Town about 20 years ago, and it was great to come back and see how it’s changed. It’s still a fun and educational day out! I loved the traditional fish and chips from the old-fashioned chippy and the Victorian-style photos. It’s a shame you can’t get some of the old-fashioned sweets they used to have, but we really enjoyed the singalong around the piano in the pub which was definitely a highlight of the day.

Definitely would recommend visiting Blists Hill. We spent numerous hours with our 10yr old son and he loved it as did we. I’d suggest going on a dry day as there is lots of walking outdoors and the fish and chip shop should you choose to go to doesn’t have indoor seating. Staff were all very pleasant and knowledgeable. Well worth the visit.

Blists Hill was a novel experience. That there is a Victorian town you can visit at all is awesome. I was really looking forward to the Victorian photography, and it was still a good thing to experience. But I'd seen someone mention there were many options for clothing... that wasn't the case. I was also apparently under the illusion you could pick your own stuff to wear... which, surely... but I was shocked that I had to be pushy about it and feel guilty. They were looking to throw anything on you and take your picture. We were rushed from start to finish, and it totally ruined the experience. This was also the case when choosing images. The professionalism of the employee was starting to wear thin at that point. Not very pleasant. Book people an hour apart - at the very least on weekdays. The resolution is simple. Some of the employees at Blists Hill looked bored and uninterested which kind of ruined the experience. I think a lot of people would love to have your job....... or even 'a' job in today's world. Others were passionate, which was wonderful, though sometimes risks stealing time from other sites. My favourite was the Toll House and that general area - though I was very sad by the caged chicken. Chickens are intelligent creatures, and this would later be proven by a local chicken in Haworth, who had befriended the woman at the vintage clothes shop and frequently visited and slept under their table. It was very curious. This caged chicken was staring at me, and I had no choice but to walk away. Not nice. Put a fake chicken in it, or an image. Or just leave it out. Back to the Toll House: very pleasant, chilled-out aura going on there. The two men there were very polite and kind, and were evidently interested and knowledgeable on their topic. Put a very good spin on the trip for me and my partner, who are similar kinds of people. This is where I learned about those very strange Victorian rugs they made out of rags, which I would later see at the Brontë Parsonage Museum. Vegan main needed at the chippy. Yummy chips though. Nice to see there is a sensory room. Considerate and progressive.

The Coalport China Museum, located in the former factory where Coalport China was produced from 1795 to 1926, offers a fascinating look into the Victorian ceramics boom. The museum showcases various china collections including tea services, vases, miniatures, and dinner services such as the Indian Tree pattern. Visitors can also witness pot throwing demonstrations.
Interesting tour around the works looking at the history of making china in the nineteenth century. Beautiful exhibits of china, but also explaining the harsh working conditions and health hazards faced by the workers who's lives were often shortened by their employment. Fantastic display of china making in the workshop, we saw the flower basket ornaments being made very expertly.

What a lovely place to visit. Friendly staff, great exhibits with voices from the past. A workshop producing unique gift options and an outstandind surprise, for us, a personal tour of the surrounding area including the, unknown to us, tar tunnel. The guide had somehow amassed an incredible amount of information and was both educational and entertaining.

We didn’t go in but was nice to walk around the area to look and read about the history. But do not park in the car park if you are planning to use the free half hour because like others have said, we were charged the hour even though we were back well within the half hour to leave. The receipt couldn’t print out as the machine had run out of paper.

Lovely little museum. Nice selection of Coalport porcelain and wonderful to be able to walk around the original workshops and kilns. My 5 year old loved the tea cup which triggered short audio clips throughout and gave adults the chance to look at the porcelain. Nice school room for role play and the workshop for the kids to make their own sculptures was great. Thanks for a lovely visit.

We visited during half term and took part in a workshop, making mini clay masks for the Day of the Dead. The ladies running the workshop were super friendly and helpful. We had a great time, enjoyed cuddles with Betty the dog and even got some cake (I don't think this is a regular offer!). A great way to spend an hour or so as part of our visit to Ironbridge.

Beautiful shop with a wonderful selection of antiques. From military to books to cars to teapots. Everything is clearly and fairly priced. The cafe is also wonderful with both gluten free and vegan options and the coffee is excellent. The staff where lovely and very helpful. The sandwiches looked fabulous, hope they’ll have a vegan option soon!

Used to be better. There were genuine hand made lamps and other craft work. Now it's just junk really and overpriced. And don't get me started on the rude, pretentious woman serving in the cafe! She gets 1 star. A piece of quiche served on a cheese board with greaseproof paper on it. A few leaves of lettuce and 1 tiny tomato cut in half. No salt, sauce, dressing. I had to ask for them at the counter. Was made to feel very uncomfortable. Plus when I was trying to cut the quiche the paper slipped and the quiche nearly ended up on the floor.

What a phenomenal place! You can park for 2 hours and you will need all 2 hours because there is so much to see inside. 50 mini-stores, all different, with some amazing antiques, ornaments, bric-a-brac and local crafts. I challenge you to leave without finding something to buy or at least something that reminds you of old times. And there's a cafe to round off your visit. The owners and staff are lovely too. A must-see during your trip to Ironbridge.

In the past my wife and I would enjoy a visit to look at the antiques then go for a snack or meal with a coffee or cold drink. After I lost my wife I haven’t been to Ironbridge recently, but today I decided to visit our old favourite places. Imagine how disappointed I was today when I found out that the coffee shop had closed permanently. There was nothing to explain why just a sign saying it was closed.

Stumbled upon this pub whilst in Ironbridge with my parents and we were all really impressed. The food exceeded expectations and was worth the price. Pictured is the chicken, bacon, and leek pie and the salmon fish cake - both of which were yum! My dad can also vouch for the risotto too 🤌🏼 the staff were lovely also.

I booked this charming old authentic hotel-pub with a few rooms for my husband’s birthday and had mentioned in advance that a small gesture like maybe a card to mark the occasion would be appreciated. I was told something might be arranged, but in the end, nothing was done — a small disappointment, though not enough to spoil the stay. Our room was very clean and recently renovated, with a spacious bathroom. However, although I’d booked a yard-facing room to avoid noise, it still turned out to be quite loud. The hotel faces both the River Severn and a busy road, and at 2 a.m. we could even hear cars racing — not exactly relaxing! If you’re sensitive to noise, this may not be the ideal choice. The listing mentions parking, but in reality there is none. The full English breakfast was generous in portion, but fairly standard. There were no hot alternatives, just a selection of cereals with milk and yogurt. Overall, service was good, and with just a few tweaks this could have been an even more special experience.

Had a lovely overnight stay at the White Hart. We were taken to our room which was a nice touch and told about local services if we needed them. Our room overlooked the courtyard, really good size and we had a bathroom with own shower. Nice touch with the free toiletries and we had a fan in our room which was a good addition! You get left with a key to the fire door if you're back late which again is great and don't feel you are restricted to a curfew. They don't have parking but we parked on the museum and just extended. Tip: take a photo of the QR code so you can extend without walking back to the car. We had a drink in the courtyard after check in which was such a sun trap and we really felt relaxed there. Good choice of drinks available. Slept really well in the room and the pub is on the whole quiet after closing times. In the morning we were welcomed to our table and we could help ourselves to cereal and yoghurt. The orange juice was a nice touch. I know there was water available but maybe a suggestion to put these next to the yogurts if people need it. There's no breakfast menu and it sounded the only choice was a full English. I'm sure you could ask for anything and they would have made it as the server was so attentive but maybe offering a menu or a choice as some people don't like to ask in case they feel awkward. The breakfast was delicious. Generous portion and you could have extra tea/coffee and toast if needed. We were asked if we wanted marmalade or sauces which is taken from the kitchen. Probably a good idea to put this on a table so people can help themselves? Wasn't a massive issue though. On the whole we had a lovely stay and we would stay again!

We visited this place in Ironbridge hoping for a pleasant meal (Sunday roasts), but left with mixed feelings. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and polite, but they seemed quite absent-minded and distracted. When placing our order (for three people), we requested an additional side option around £5 per person which was listed on the menu, though not described in much detail. We just wanted something extra to round out the meal for all of us. However, we only received a small salad. When we asked about the missing items, it turned out the waiter hadn’t placed that part of the order at all. Eventually, we were brought a portion of chips, salad, and potato wedges but only for one person instead of three. When we followed up again, the waiter insisted we hadn’t ordered them in the first place. We wouldn’t have minded paying extra if it had simply been missed mistakes happen but everything took so long, and the way it was handled left a poor impression. Since we were nearly done eating by that point, we just asked them not to bring anything else. The place wasn’t particularly busy, so it felt like the staff were just a bit absent-minded. As for the food, it was below average. Some parts were better than others. The roast vegetables (leek and sautéed cabbage, I believe) and the potatoes were quite tasty, while the meat (both pork and beef) was just not so great. The wedges were crispy and tasty. The salad was overly salty, but still decent. Unfortunately, the chips had a strange, freezer-like taste a definite letdown. Overall, the mains were underwhelming. Considering the price, the food didn’t quite live up to expectations you can easily find better value elsewhere. That said, the setting and atmosphere were lovely. The garden area is especially nice, and it’s a pleasant spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Despite the confusion, the staff remained kind and welcoming throughout. In summary: a lovely place to sit and enjoy a drink, but not somewhere I’d recommend for a proper meal. I might come back for a beer, but for dinner, I’d look elsewhere.

I stopped at The White Hart for a refreshment stop while out walking my dog. I asked for half a pint of lager shandy. After it was poured the bars person said '£4.60 please'. I queried this and after the bars person checked with their manager, I was informed that they charge for half a pint of lager and half a pint of lemonade as they cannot charge for half pint of lager shandy through the till. So technically I was charged for a pint. My advice, if you want half a lager shandy go to the pub down the road who charged me half the price!

The cafe Eighty-Six'd is a great place to have a healthy and tasty lunch. The coffee is not watery, the service is good and the sandwiches are delicious. The location is perfect for people who want to stay in central London but also want to find some good vegetarian food.
Absolute little gem of a café on the first floor of a building so tucked away and a lot quieter than the other busy cafés. Cakes were exceptionally good - light, flavoursome and freshly baked. The tea selection was also very wide.

Visited with my daughter who introduced me to this fabulous eatery, they welcomed us from the window above (eat outside / takeaway covid restrictions in place). Great choice of menu on the wall outside, catered for my special dietary needs, great value and wonderfully friendly. Fabulous display of blooms outside and in the doorway of the delivery, and the good was fantastic x

Great selection of vegetarian food and lovely lovely cakes! Love the environment as well. The dining area smells like our own kitchen⋯would love to come back

I researched this place on TripAdvisor after booking my raft tour as I knew we would want a relax and snack afterwards. The reviews on here are extremely positive and as soon as we saw the outside of the cafe we could see why. We walked up the short flight of stairs and found a sweet little seating area. All the tables were full but a lovely gentleman called us over to join him and his wife because he didn't want us missing out on this lovely place. We ordered the chocolate brownies and hot chocolates and they arrived promptly. The waitress was polite and courteous. The brownie was the best I've had and the hot chocolate was delicious. I loved the artwork hung around the place. It is a very sweet cafe and definitely worth a visit.

This is one of my very favourite places to eat... food is homely, of impecable craftsmanship, hearty and beautifully presented. The team is all lovely and they always make us feel welcomed. Coffee, cakes or their fabulous lunches make me happy... mostly vegetarian and lovely because of that. My falafel salad on Saturday was so good that gave me goosebumps... thank you guys 😊
Sulayma M — Google review
Delicious healthy food, served with a smile. The falafel and hummus would be my personal recommendation 👌 great cakes too! We spent 25 quid for a cappuccino, falafel, quesadilla and a lovely piece of cake. Lovely painting when you enter and the café just oozes a wholesome vibe 🌱😊

A little gem. Good quality coffee and a surprising choice of freshly cooked bistro type food. Excellent choice of cake and pastries. Service is faultless and the art on display keeps one occupied whilst waiting for food to be prepared. We had a very tasty mixed bean soup with a cheese toasty. Prices are reasonable and there is the obligatory complimentary wi-fi. The view from the oriel window seat is to be recommended. All in all, it is well worth the walk to the top of the town.

Wonderland is a fairytale-themed adventure park located in Telford, Shropshire, offering enchanting experiences for families with young children. Set in nine acres of natural woodland, the park features beloved characters such as Snow White, Alice, and the Mad Hatter.
Kids loved pretty much everything about it and as an adult I wasn't disappointed . Very age appropriate for our 1-2 year olds, they were able to go on the rides and enjoyed the fairy tale scenes, the few dinosaur models were a hit too.

Went here with wife and kids. Had a brilliant time, all the staff are friendly and kind. The theme was Halloween. The houses were brilliantly decorated and care was given with having younger children being kind and friendly with he kiddies.

I rarely leave reviews but I thought the staff and characters here are fantastic. So friendly and engaging to the children. My 5 year old and 18 month old loved all the entertainment. The tea party was lovely and the matter had all the kids laughing. My 18 month old is very unsociable and normally takes months to warm up to people but he was smiling and saying yes to Alice. The people working on the rides were lovely aswell far from the bored looks you get from most UK theme parks. Both my boys were up on the stage dancing for the last disco of the day. Really is the staff that makes it so great here. Thank you

I'm not sure why this place picks up negative reviews. Perhaps if the heavens have opened, and its raining, this may be an idea for another day... However, myself and my 3 year old really enjoyed a good few hours here, during a sun filled lovely day. The staff were very warm, friendly and engaging. We enjoyed the mini story time, mini disco and exploring the woodland area, plus the little trail hunt, and rides. My opinion is... if you have children 5 or under, this is a perfect little attraction to take them to. I'd read previous reviews, and thought it may be hit or miss, but honestly, as a daddy with a little 3 year old girl, I thought it was lovely. Memories created.

Visited the Halloween 🎃 night last night, it was amazing! The kids loved it. Been here lots of times but definitely the best one yet! A lot of effort has been put in and it shows. The characters were superb! Definitely coming back!

Haven't been for a about 4 years due to the price increases however not much has changed. Had a great day but think now kids am 6 it's just overdone and more for younger ones. Had a great time for the teachers' day made the most out of every part and kids round rides countless times. But don't think we will return now till they have kids.

We've visited Wonderland for 3 years in a row. Each time has been a good experience. Whilst the attractions remain the same, there's always new & fun things to do at the park. From face painting, hair braiding, decorating biscuits, performances from characters, meeting princesses and having a tea party with the mad hatter. The kids always enjoy the experience. There is an inflatable obstacle course within the castle that is overseen by a member of staff and plenty of toilet facilities. There are a couple of food places where I had a really sickly beautiful biscoff waffle. Coffee isn't great but they can't have it all! Also good to note, the Mad Hatter is played so so well by the member of staff employed. He really goes the extra mile with the children. 10/10 for him!

I want to thank one member of staff in particular, emily duff. We came to the halloween night friday evening, My son has autism and he couldn't handle the jumping out and screaming at him, he was so frightened we just couldn't calm him down. Emily came and sat with him, showing its just dress up and even walked round with my son, calming him and making him smile. She went above and beyond for him and we are so extremely greatful. Thank you so much emily, you truly are a angel xx

Scenic Railroads
Telford Steam Railway, located near Ironbridge, offers delightful rides on vintage steam and diesel locomotives. The railway operates from March to September, allowing visitors to travel along a mile-long stretch of the historic Wellington to Craven Arms Railway. The experience includes stops at three stations and features two steam locomotives and two diesel engines. Maintained by passionate volunteers, the heritage railway provides an authentic glimpse into the past with opportunities to explore historical exhibits and enjoy a vintage tea room.
We visited for The Polar Express and it’s probably the most magical Christmas experience we have had. The staff are amazing! Every one of them in character from start to finish. From the staff greeting visitors at the station to the ones on the train. They all made it a very special experience. I would definitely recommend a visit to The Polar Express.

I had a fabulous day at Telford Steam Railway, I went by myself and I was so happy I was able to book a ticket for just me for the cream tea train ride, as some other similar steam train experiences discriminate against single people and only allow a minimum of 2, when many solo people also want to and love experiencing these days out. When I arrived the lady that worked in the gift shop was so helpful and kind to me, she help me with my ticket, directions, showing me things in the shop and also offering to take a photo of me when I returned, the steam train itself is beautiful! The atmosphere is delightful, the mini engine ride and the miniature train villages was amazing! When I got on the train, they layered it out so nicely with table cloth, tea cup and saucer, sugar, jam, clotted cream and menu, I had the whole table to myself with window seat, the staff on the train were friendly and helpful, each person got one fruit scone and one plain scone that were large and good quality along with the jam and cream, they gave me a box for my leftovers to take home. The trip itself was enjoyable sipping tea, eating scones whilst enjoying the sounds of the train and looking out the window. This trip was good value for money on a beautiful old steam train journey, thank you! 🚂😸

An absolutely magical experience from start to finish! We attended the Polar Express night at Telford Steam Railway as a group of 6 adults and 2 teenagers, and it was so much more than just a train ride—it was a full theatrical experience that brought out the festive spirit in all of us. The evening began seamlessly at the park-and-ride in Ironbridge, where the well-organised bus service got us to the venue in just 8 minutes. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by cheerful staff in festive costumes, setting the tone for an enchanting night. The waiting area was buzzing with excitement, offering delicious hot food, refreshments, and an incredible model railway exhibition that captivated everyone. A few carols and dances later, we were guided to the platform for the main event, and that’s when the real magic began. The train journey itself was unforgettable. The conductor and staff were full of energy, creating a lively, joyful atmosphere for everyone on board. From singing and dancing to meeting Santa himself at the North Pole, every moment was special. When we returned, we had the chance to take photos with the cast and the beautiful train, as well as browse the gift shop for keepsakes to remember the night. The return bus ride to the park-and-ride was just as smooth, wrapping up a perfectly organised evening. The joy on the children’s faces (and ours!) was priceless. This is a must-do experience for families and anyone who loves the magic of Christmas. Five stars all the way!

Our visit to the Telford Steam Railway was for a Guards Experience, a Christmas present from my daughter's family. My daughter was able to join me for my special day and my wife and grandson joined us later for our first journey. We were met by the duty guard, Ben, and introduced to the Pacer, our train for the day, and on one of its only running schedules this season. We walked through the safety procedures, both inside and out, ensuring the train was safe to use. Following us was our driver, who carried out more thorough checks. With all checks carried out and a few passengers on board, we were off. We departed in one direction, then the driver swapped ends, and we set off in the other direction, to another station, which is the end of the current line. We then did the journey in reverse. As the 'guard', I was given the task of clipping the passengers tickets and having a chat with them, as well as operating the doors and carrying out the safety checks before we departed each station. I was given the opportunity of a footplate ride in reverse, which was great. Our lunch was provided at the cafe on site and was fantastic. We rejoined the train for the return journey, where I received my certificate, a year's membership, and a booklet on the history of the railway. We went to view the incredible model railway layouts, which have to be seen before going for a family walk around the lake. We returned, and my daughter had another treat in store for my grandson and myself, the chance to drive a narrow gauge diesel. This year, the Phoenix Railway were offering guests the opportunity to 'drive for a fiver'. Both my grandson and I enjoyed the opportunity of driving the locomotive twice around a large track and blowing the horn when signs appeared to warn people of our presence. Until this year, I had never heard of this railway or Horsehay, but I do now. The railway may be small in travelling distance, but they have some very ambitious plans, which will build over the coming years and bring great delight to everyone. I would like to say a massive "Thank You" to Ben, for his infectious enthusiasm for the railway, all the railway volunteers, the cafe staff, Phoenix Railway, for making our day incredibly special, and we look forward to travelling again with you as passengers. I have enjoyed reading the booklet and learning more about this amazing little line!! For a great family day out, this is definitely worth visiting, as it caters for all ages. Parking can be found beside the Goods Shed and along the old road, which is a cul de sac, as it was the turntable when the line was operational.

A great pub for the beer drinking enthusiast! Something different from the chain pubs in Ironbridge. Always a great selection of different ales and lagers and a buzzing atmosphere. An absolute don’t miss if you fancy a quality beverage in Ironbridge or even anywhere near Telford, for that matter!!

Fantastic place to try different ales. The locals are helpful with beer choices if you are not sure what to try. The beer flight is a brilliant way to try 3 different beers. They are also able to put a beer you like into a can whilst you wait, that's right, they can a beer while waiting. What a fantastic idea. We will definitely be going back to try some more beer. A highly recommended Micropub.

The Bedlam Furnaces hold great historical significance as they were used to produce iron for the construction of the bridge and other structures in the town. Built between 1757 and 1759, these furnaces were among the first to use coke as fuel instead of charcoal. Although no longer operational, they are well-preserved and offer insight into their production process. The site provides a glimpse into the early stages of the industrial revolution and offers pleasant walks through nearby areas.
Interesting stop of visit. We was passing and pulled over to have a look. You can walk all the way round., Free to visit

The ruins revealed much about how iron was made. The structure is massive and situated near the river, making it easy to see why this location was chosen for functional and efficiency purposes. I only wish more of it had been preserved and that there were additional displays to help children and adults learn more about its history.

The Iron Bridge Tollhouse is a significant landmark in Ironbridge, known as the first cast-iron bridge in the world. Built in 1779 over the River Severn, it symbolizes the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and attracts tourists from around the world. Although currently undergoing restoration by English Heritage, visitors can still explore the Tollhouse and walk across the bridge to enjoy its historical significance and picturesque views.
Informative exhibition on the background and history of the bridge, absolutely lovely, and free, although neat souvenir shop with some Ironbridge merch allowed us to shed some £ to show our appreciation for the enthusiast team of volunteers

A nice little museum, it only took 15 minutes to walk around and read all the information boards. It was worth visiting to find a little history out on the Ironbridge. There was a shop too. You can walk over Ironbridge and see the river and take in the lovely scenery. Then you have the shops, cafés, etc. Ironbridge is a great place to visit.

The Toll House sits opposite the the village at the end of the Ironbridge that spans the river Severn. The ironbridge was the world's 1st iron bridge built in 1779 and is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. Set in this beautiful village that has attracted visitors from around the world for many years. Today crossing the bridge is free. So you can marvel at this amazing structure from on top or the path below besides the river Severn. Loads of gift shops and a few cafes are available close to the bridge. We'll worth the visit and the only cost was the car parking. At this time of year its great as the village and bridge arnt packed with loads of visitors. Would definitely recommend for all the family.

Marvellous little free museum at the end of the famed Iron Bridge. Used to be the Toll House for the bridge and it has an interesting history. I liked the highlighted fact that ferry operators who had been put out of business by the bridge were exempt from the Tolls. Anyway being a Toll House it is very small but it is full of interesting information boards about the bridge and surrounding area. It has a two floors and is well kept and immaculate. Lovely friendly helpful staff too, namely Laura and Mell (see I did remember). It has a small shop as well. Well worth a visit!

Free small museum about the Ironbridge’s history set in the original tollhouse, which was in use from 1779-1950, and still displays the original tolls on the exterior. It’s across two small floors, and worth 15-20 minute stop to learn more about bridge’s history - including how it came to be built and restoration work over the years. Also a small shop for souvenirs.

Discovered this gem whilst visiting the Iron Bridge today. The gentleman in there clearly knew his stuff, wasn’t pushy and was just generally pleasant. Just popped in whilst having a slow plod around the square after a light breakfast in the tea emporium. The young lady was very helpful and knowledgable. Wasn’t looking to buy anything, really but ended up leaving with a nice Japanese whisky after having samples of a couple of different bottles. The range they have on offer is quite something, considering the shop is quite small. Lots of nice whisky at reasonable prices. I think I’ll probably pop in closer to Christmas to get myself something a little special under the guise of buying Christmas gifts! :) Parking is a bit of a pain on the square, but there is parking up the hill or on the road.

Derek was so helpful. Spent ages with us explaining the differences between the wines and whiskies we showed interest in. The most amazing company I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with !! I found the perfect gift for a very special person and Merrythought committed that I would have it in 4-7 days from the UK to the middle of the US. Can you believe it arrived in 3 days from the time of order to delivery. I was absolutely gobsmacked and overjoyed with the professionalism, attention to detail, follow-through on commitment, and overall joy when my home security system notified me the package had been delivered. I recommend this company whole heartedly and will look forward to doing business with them again as I prize "saying what you'll do and doing what you say" above everything. I am delighted with my first ever Merrythought bear, Bertie, which I have been wanting for quite a while. He is gorgeous and beautifully made. It really put a smile on my face receiving him during quite a difficult time.

I got three bears of the same kind. Those bears are so lovely. One is a birthday present for my sister, one is a thank you gift for my friend and one is for myself. One more bear in my collection. Thank you for the fast shipping. m(__)m

Ironbridge Fine Arts and Framing is a captivating destination for art lovers, situated in the historic Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. This charming gallery and printmaking studio boasts an impressive industrial brick and timber frame building with soaring 40-foot ceilings, creating an inspiring atmosphere. The talented team here, including professional artist Gary Walton, offers exceptional framing services that have delighted many customers. One satisfied client praised Sarah's expertise in crafting mounts that exceeded expectations after placing their first order of twelve mounts.
From the moment I walked into the shop the experience was amazing. The atmosphere inside is wonderful and calming with beautiful pictures displayed. I had arranged to meet with Sarah to discuss the picture I wanted to be framed. It was a signed programme as a present. Sarah was fantastic, she listened to my thoughts and shared her expertise. For example explaining the importance of the glass to ensure the signatures remain in tact. She talked me through different options and styles, allowing me the time to consider these. I explained the timeline that I wanted the picture for Christmas. I was called a few weeks before Christmas to tell me my picture was ready. When I returned to the shop to collect my picture the experience was again fantastic. Sarah took the time to show me the picture and talk me through what they had done. She ensured it was well wrapped and secure before I left the shop. I gave the picture as a family Christmas present - everybody was absolutely blown away!

The best print makers and print making services out there! I’ve done a three hour print making workshop with Jenny in Ironbridge which was absolutely fantastic, a day workshop run by Jenny in Sidmouth on Photopolymer solar plate printing which was so informative and interesting- I was delighted with my prints. The icing on the cake is having my own Gunning No2 printing press- the ultimate printmakers printing press-it is a dream to use! Quality of printing is exceptional. Dave (Mason-Gunning) makes them and drove down to set it up and give me guidance. Amazing one to one service from everyone involved-and Ellie, super helpful with any enquiries. Could not recommend them enough! Oh and their bespoke intaglio ink is a dream to print with!

My beautiful Etching Press from Ironbridge Fine Arts is such a pleasure to work with. It was a such a positive experience to purchase this press from such a caring business. From the first telephone call to inquire about a press for my particular needs I was impressed with the friendly, knowledgeable and fast replies to all my queries. I took part in a workshop and Jenny made sure that I was taught all the skills needed to print the images I would like to achieve. Jenny is an amazing artist and very kind and helpful. I ordered the etching press and all the necessary art materials for my particular printing process from them. I absolutely loved that it is possible to chose a color of choice for the frame of the press. Mine is pink, matching to my company logo. The press was shipped with a courier service and was carefully packaged in a special crate together with all the other art materials. Building up the press was not complicated and when I had a query I got immediate assistance. I highly recommend Ironbirdge Fine Arts and the Gunning Presses, such an exciting and fabulous company.

My name is Gary Walton and I work as a professional artist. I recently produced a new range of originals on paper and needed these mounted professionally. I contacted Sarah at Ironbridge fine arts and Sarah was absolutely brilliant with helping me with the product I wanted. In fact the mounts when collected were better than I'd expected. I placed my first order with approx 12 mounts and going to reorder very soon for another batch. I can't thank Sarah enough for her skills with making these mounts....you have to visit the gallery as its such a stunning environment in a beautiful part of Shropshire. Thank you again and what a brilliant team at Ironbridge fine arts.

Fine dining restaurant
Located in the heart of Ironbridge, Restaurant Severn offers a fine dining experience with a blend of classical British and modern European cuisine. The restaurant prides itself on using locally sourced produce to create delicious dishes using contemporary cooking techniques. With its quaint building and modern interior, this one AA Rosette restaurant provides both lunchtime and evening meals, as well as a separate Sunday menu.
Not your average restaurant. Really nice food and excellent service. Parking in Ironbridge is free after 5pm so mo worries there. Not a busy restaurant a great place for an intimate meal. Music Not too loud. Had pleanty of time to choose what o wanted from the menu. Food was cooked perfectly and the space in-between was ideal. They had a 3 course for £30 which was worth every penny. Overall a fantastic restaurant

Throughly enjoyable meal. After looking at the menus available and having an 11yr old and a 14yr old in tow, we decided that the Sunday lunchtime menu had something for everyone. It did not disappoint. Every dish was varied, presented and cooked to a very high standard. The restaurant was busy and we had to prompt for the butter for the bread, wine that we ordered and extra drinks once or twice, but this didn’t detract from a very pleasant lunch. The scotch egg starter is a treat and I really enjoyed the mackerel. Everyone had the beef and I had the belly pork. All were scrummy. Cheeseboard was nice and wine was good too. A small restaurant that knows its clientele and delivers very well. This is up there with my fav from the town. Will really look forward to another visit soon.

Managed to get in early as we had not booked but wow what an amazing meal.. all three courses where beautifully presented delicious and plentiful. The parfait was amazing. Great value too at just over £30 per head including wine and pre drinks. Thank you all will defo see you again when we visit the area

Second time of visiting, last time was 2014, quality food with good service team. Three courses £38 (Sept 2021) expect to pay a booking deposit as well. The food was excellent and the menu catered for vegetarians, not sure about vegan options. It is a small restaurant with around 8 tables. A popular choice so please book ahead.

The menu is interesting and Restaurant Severn delivers on taste and complimentary food arrangements. I had a mackerel scotch egg starter with a mango chutney and curried mayonnaise. My wife had chicken liver parfait with almond bread. My main was pork belly with pear and black pudding. My wife had curried cod with potato and a homemade thick raita. The staff were so friendly and absolutely fantastic. The two ladies were kept best busy all night but were superb. £30 for two courses or £38 for three courses... and worth every penny. A lot has been said about the 10% service charge but the menu states it is discretionary. I always give 10% when a place goes above and beyond, and I was happy to pay. I think unless you had a really bad experience, I honestly feel it would be churlish to remove the service charge. All in all we had a great night and we'd definitely go back again.

First visit and well impressed. The 2 front of house girls were v polite and welcoming. Sunday lunch pricing v reasonable and menu varied. Nice little free taster as we sat down. I'm the fussiest eater but loved my scotch egg starter. Jane enjoyed her mushrooms. Both had beef. Felt guilty asking for salt(sorry chef) but we do like it salty. Lovely mains and puddings yummy. Well done to all.😀

Nov 2021 Travelled from Spain for a Family birthday , six of us, we booked the private dining room upstairs. Parking is a little difficult on a Sunday afternoon so allow a little extra time We had to wait a little before being shown upstairs but the room was perfect for us to enjoy family time in an exclusive environment Service was excellent, discrete but perfectly attentive. Food menu was presented informatively and honestly ( the beef delivered to the kitchen was Below their usual standard so came with a caution) The food was excellent and presented beautifully. A perfect cauliflower soup, smoked mackerel, croquettes were amongst the starter, we all had perfectly cooked pork and all went for a delicious Brad and butter pudding. Great wine menu which we indulged as befitting the occasion Thank you all for making an important occasion perfect Special mention to Deb who ensured that we left happy and replete. Would definitely recommend the restaurant and, if we were back living in the Uk, would be a regular customer

Just left after our third visit and must say every time is as good as the first. Warmest welcome from the staff, attentive throughout our visit. The food was as lovely as ever. We both decided to try something different as we had been taken with the smoked haddock the last two times we visited. I had the salmon and prawns with lobster bisque and my partner had the koftas. Both absolutely delicious although the salmon was definitely both our favourites tonight. Cannot fault the service and will definitely be visiting again.

End of a 9 day holiday and after reading reviews I reserved a table to end our holiday with another great meal. I'm sorry but, it was the worst meal we have had in a very long time. What seemed shop bought pittabread with starter, but both mains were tasteless, potatoe scallops with pasta?, two pieces of chicken with tinned tomatoes over the top. When asked "was everything ok" mmmmm not really, the waitress just laughed. When I asked " what are you laughing at " she just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Good service, nice atmosphere, tasteless food on both dishes, sorry.

Very poor service. Took ages to get pompodoms and when they did arrive the dish they came in had stuck food on it!!! Only 2 pickles never had that anywhere in the world (alarm bells ringing). Waiting staff are not indian so don't know about the food. Had a Karachi chilli chicken, chicken dried out nothing on the menu stipulated the heat strength or anything else. My husband had chicken jalfrazi in all our years never seen a brown one he said it tasted like out of a jar. Pilau rice was brown should be white with coloured flakes! And the naan bread was left as again dried food stuck on serving plate. Never had such a bad curry and lack of hygiene as this AVOID if you know anything about PROPER ibdian curries!!!!

This is one of those "one of a kind" places. Set in an old police station with amazing food and great ambiance, I would definitely go here again. The staff were very polite, friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and with subtle twists on the traditional. I would say that this is a restaurant that prefers the hotter end of the heat scale, so be careful what you order.

Lovely setting right on the main street of the beautiful Ironbridge. Steeped in history this restaurant is in the old police station and court house. You can eat in the old courthouse making it quite unique. The loos are set in one of the old cells too so quite good fun. The meal was exceptional, hot, fresh , depth of flavour and great use of spice. Friendly attentive staff. Only observation is that its quite pricey so come with a full wallet.

Great atmosphere, excellent staff and amazing food. The decor, layout and ambience easily satisfies the romantic couple or larger parties, as there are small areas in alcoves and larger seating areas. Staff couldn't do enough for us, and were super friendly. Was with a part of 9, and although the place was very busy,, we never felt neglected. Will definitely be back.

My partner and I have been coming to the restaurant for years and have had great experience's. We wanted to bring our teenage daughters who were excited to try it out. We were so disappointed. The food was average at best, very tasteless. The service was shocking. Young staff not very knowledgeable of the menu, and not attentive at all. Our drinks were warm, we had to ask for extra ice and were given a few cubes. Won't be rushing back. Very disappointed.

A lavish Indian cuisine experience. Premium prices ranging from about £10-15 for a main dish making a total meal around £30 per person if you had sides & drinks to go with it. Lovely service, understanding management who take care of their regulars. I've been one of these where they discounted our meal because of simple little things such as the waiter not getting the bill straight away. Love it! Highly Recommended.

First time in Ironbridge and looking for a place to stop for lunch. In popular tourist destinations this is something I always find difficult as often end up disappointed. Having wandered up and down the high street and checking reviews though I have to say I pulled a blinder with this selection. I chose a cheese and sausage toasted sandwich, very generously portioned, tasty and moreish, and a side bowl of chunky chips, adding a refreshing cold drink the bill came in at a very reasonable price. The cafe had good ambience, if a little quiet, although that could have been due to the time of the year, I did find the decor a little confusing, maybe though it is this quirkiness that makes this cafe special, and it probably fits the nature of the town. Big bonuses here for the friendliness of the staff, the view, and the fact that it was very dog friendly with special little treats issued to your furry pals.

Served with generous portions of clotted cream and jam if you wish, they provide a classic taste of British baking at its finest. Truffles Café is renowned for its dog-friendly policy, welcoming canine companions with open arms. Visitors have praised the café for its accommodating nature. The menu caters to a variety of tastes, offering breakfast, brunch, lunch, and afternoon tea. Dishes are prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, reflecting the café's dedication to quality. The beverage selection complements the food perfectly, featuring a range of teas, coffees, and other refreshments. The Furnace Kitchen is pretty much on my doorstep. It's tucked away by The Museum of Iron. We walked into a bright, airy and cool industrial café. The furniture is funky and comfy. My son and I chose a table. We were directed to where we could get water and menus. I chose the croque Monsieur which came with salad and skin on yummy fries. Not really a traditional croque but still very tasty. My son had the pulled teriyaki beef flatbread with chips, he said it was really good. Great selection of teas, coffees and cold drinks. Well priced, cool on a hot summer's day but I can see that it would be a lovely place to come when it's cold outside.

This is a well lit roomy restaurant. The food was great, and there were gluten-free free cakes, too. They have good tea options. The coffee has milk alternatives, and I chose oat milk for my latte. Staff were really nice, and the lady who served me was really happy to help, and that added yo the experience. They do hot food, and the piźa looked amazing. It's not cheap, but I'd say the price reflects the quality. Great way to make the experience at the museum more enjoyable
Roberto H — Google review
A cafe, in what used to be the 'Hands On' building of the museum, with very few changes to the interior. So the large room has a high ceiling, paved floors and no soft furnishings which makes for an extremely noisy experience, voices and scraping chairs echoing round, not comfortable at all. Food is a 'modern menu' so does not include traditional breakfast items and it is very expensive, however service was quick. The entrance is accessible and there is plenty of room inside for wheelchair users. As other reviewers have pointed out, the car park is a pay car park, and again not cheap. I can understand this for visitors to the museum, or for walkers but the cafe should be exempt as in other restaurants and cafes round the country. The fees provide for upkeep of the museum but if the fee is compulsory then it is not a voluntary donation. Altogether disappointing.

A little gem, a lovely house that shows how the family would have lived. If you read all the information and look about, it will take about one hour to get round. The staff was very helpful. The house itself has no disable access as it has rooms upstairs and access is rather steep. Another house is in the process to be done up, so I am waiting for the grand opening.

Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron

The Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron is a part of the Old Furnaces complex and offers a glimpse into the early iron industry. Adjacent to it is Enginuity, a hands-on science museum for children, housed in former ironworks buildings. Visitors can also explore period-dressed houses once occupied by the Darby family and the nearby Quaker Burial Ground. The museum celebrates the area's industrial heritage, while the Museum of The Gorge provides further insights into its significance.
Very very nice place to visit, loads of interesting facts and it is right across the road from Enginuity, so you can visit both at the same time. It even has a scale model of the actual Iron Bridge that is very detailed, some fossils and all kids of information and facts about the start of the industrial revolution. There are also some old age war memorabilia such as an old musket and some old daggers, very nice visit and the kids also enjoyed it.

An interesting museum showing the history of iron in the area and how this small town became the centre of the industrial revolution. There are two floors of exhibits and lots of information panels explaining how important Coalbrookdale was at the start of the Industrial Revolution.

A fabulous and very interesting museum. Love the iron work and history. The tour was free and in depth, however it was very slow so ideal for those taking their time or with mobility issues. The kitchen was not great but think it was just an oversight.

Fascinating and very well explained. Worth a half day visit - and the cafe serves good food too!

Very nice museum, lots of information about the area, technology and the people involved. Maybe even too much information, there is quite a bit to read. Maybe a few more interactive things would have been nice. Don't forget to visit the old furnaces outside.

A fantastic morning spent at the museum. Really informative, great staff and excellent displays. I got the multi pass for the area museums and it's money well spent. Im sure I will be back.

A fascinating backdrop to the Industrial revolution encompassing paid and free places to visit, the free furnace, the free art and gallery and paid exhibitions. All to be topped off at the excellent cafe restaurant.

Visited today 16 September . Lovely day to visit especially with a free tour outside. David our guide was very good at explaining all about the history of the place. Would recommend a visit here . The museums are very interesting . Lovely cafe too.

Coalbrookdale

Nestled in the picturesque Ironbridge Gorge of Shropshire, Coalbrookdale is a town steeped in rich industrial history, particularly known for its pivotal role in iron ore smelting. This charming settlement is part of the Telford and Wrekin borough and lies within the civil parish called the Gorge. A highlight of Coalbrookdale's heritage is the Severn Warehouse, built by the Coalbrookdale Company in 1834.

The New Coracle Shed, located at the Green Wood Centre in Coalbrookdale, is a delightful destination for anyone interested in the unique world of coracles—those charming round boats that have a rich history. While the Old Coracle Shed serves as a museum showcasing tools and artifacts from its days as a workshop, visitors can peek through its windows to catch glimpses of this fascinating past.
An absolutely fascinating and charming space. Do not be put off by its size it packs a punch and tells brilliant stories in an accessible and amusing way. If I haven’t had to leave, I don’t think I would have! So much to look at and lots of brilliant activities. Genuinely model for museums to look at and adopt! It is evident there is a lot of love for the history and the subject and that shines through. Highly recommended.

Have been meaning to leave a review for La Casita, I’m generally not a huge “Tapas” fan but it’s one of my wife’s favourites so whilst visiting Ironbridge we booked here. I can 100% recommend, it’s a great little restaurant. The menu is small (so we ordered most of it) & I can confirm each dish tasted amazing. The flavours were something else. We had a lovely evening here and will most certainly book again. Thank you La Casita for a perfect evening ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not quite sure where to eat out we picked this place as it was dog friendly and what a good choice it was! Great tapas and good value! We would come back

Wonderful little restaurant with very friendly staff and great food. Had a lovely evening to celebrate my partner’s 30th birthday. Highly recommend the fried aubergine with honey, the olive salad and sticky toffee pudding! Excellent value for money, would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

Cute little place, although perhaps lacking atmosphere. Great Location. Attentive and friendly service. Food was ok. Not brilliant and very disappointed that the Gambas did not have the intestines removed. We chose not to eat them.

Fantastic place. The food was brilliant and at a really reasonable price. The waitress who served us was absolutely lovely too. Looking forward to going back again

Absolutely lovely. We didn’t book and just at walked in and got a lovely table by the window. We were served quickly an and the food was amazing. We would definitely recommend the garlic mushrooms with blue cheese and the omelette was fabulous. Don’t hesitate, just book. Lovely restaurant, lovely staff and amazing food.

Lovely restaurant with great food. We were a bit confused initially about whether it was open - driving past it is harder to distinguish that the restaurant is upstairs and where the entrance is (on the right). We’re so glad we walked down to take a closer look as we had a very enjoyable meal. Food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Mid week peaceful vibe with enjoyable background music.

Oh good! Something Mediterranean. That will be nice and fresh. Hmm. Soggy tinned olives. Tinned mushrooms. Over-salted chicken. A very noticeable lack of garlic in several garlic dishes. Authenticity can be summed up by the bread: It only came as an extra and it was industrial baguette from Aldi. The meatballs were good. It was OK, but nothing like the food we've had in Spain.

We had a delicious fish n chips today great portions, mini fish for the smaller appetite n large for the more hungry person. Very friendly service, quick , can eat inside n dogs welcome 🐾. Car parking near buy. It's a stones throw away from the iron bridge with a few benches by the great war memorial.

This used to be a great chippy but it's obviously been taken over by new management. Food is now ok but not great, prices increased but more importantly corners are being cut. Today I was given my food in a different box to the normal ones used for food. A thin folded brown box that when the server added salt and vinegar it ran out of the sides. Walking up the street I nearly lost half the food as the corners of the box are just folded up with nothing holding them together. Obviously not designed with this kind of food in mind and anyone with a bit of sense could see they are not suitable.

Very disappointing experience. The fish was literally swimming in oil, and the fries were far from fresh – they seemed to be kept in a container, waiting to be served as soon as a customer arrives, which meant they were cold, greasy, and some even dry. I also ordered fried chicken pieces, which turned out to be dry and cold. Overall, the fish was oily, and both the fries and chicken were not fresh. To make matters worse, the staff was unfriendly.

Worst fish and chips I’ve ever tried. Fish was dry and either left standing for hours or overcooked. Chips had been refried several times. On the plus side, the mushy peas were nice and the pepsi max was cold! The managers reaction to any negative comment is hilarious. Read the other reviews for entertainment!! I did not eat the food, the photo is of the food I left -virtually the whole portion. Hey ho. I am an honest reviewer, if they can’t take criticism they should cook nicer food 🤣

Its been couple of years I am in Uk but never tried fish & chips. Yesterday i went to Iron bridge, Shrewsbury and saw this place tried fish & chips I really loved it. Such a nice place to sit outside and enjoy your food. Even the donar kabab was really nice. All the staff members were friendly especially lady owner.

Just popped in whilst visiting Ironbridge, last time we came we stopped by at Darbys and after that experience wasn’t going to go there again! This was total opposite, brilliant service and food was lovely. Three of us and two mini fish and special and a large fish and chips. Portions were superb and meal was superb. Will be back for sure.
Immy L — Google review
Great view, from terrace but that all positives, chips were barely warm, soggy and old, fried chicken was dry, and a fish all covered in excess grease, and grumpy service, got refund for chips but wouldn’t recommend it at all
Michał S — Google review
Lovely chippy, reasonably priced for a world heritage site. Food was great, bought to our table. This chippy also has a balcony, great for sunny days. There was a few dirty tables, otherwise it’s a perfect rating.
