Stayed here to 2 nights whilst visiting Beamish open air museum.
3 adults in 1 room, wife and adult daughter.
Hotel is situated just off A1M/A194(M) junction, about 6 miles southeast of Newcastle, 1 mile south of the “Angle of the North”
Access road if off the beat track, easy to locate from the main exit A1M
A nice local pub with 18rooms all on the ground floor giving easy accessibility to those with mobility issues.
Main reception is just to the right of the pub with a single door. Walk through the door and be treated with a small foyer and reception desk (porter available 24/7).
Easy book in process, pre booked room and paid for before arrive. All rooms have electronic card keys, only issued 1 between the 3 of us (wasn’t an issue as we was together throughout our visit).
Good information provided about the bar and restaurant, ask what we wanted for breakfast in reception and any allergens (all of use are Coeliacs). Room easy to find, plenty of room, double and a single Ben in the room. Clean tidy with the usual coffee/tea making facilities. Small open wardrobe with typical hangers available. A small desk with chair. Iron & Ironing board in the room.
Room was warn, widows would not open fully, I’m guessing this was more of a security feature rather than preventing anyone throwing themselves out the window to fall 3 feet.
Comfortable night sleep both nights, quilts and 2 pillows (there’s where basic & flat, fortunately we brought our own)
Good sized bathroom with a huge shower, big enough to house 2 large sized adults (if that’s your thing) integral toilet and sink. BEWARE- the water is scalding hot, made the wastage of diving in not checking the temp and promptly burnt the twins, I now have 3rd degree burns on my plumbs. Nonetheless, a great shower.
Room was at the end of the corridor so little to no foot fall from other residents, very quiet.
Large carpark, restaurant was busy throughout the evening with an extensive menu, they cater very well for Coeliacs, they have a separate menu highlighting all the food that’s safe for Gluten Free.
Food is reasonably priced, had Garlic mushrooms starter both nights, delicious, 10oz gammon the first night and the 10oz steak the 2nd night both very nice (see attached menu).
I’ve uploaded several photos of the hotel room and building.
My only complaint is the staff was a little slow in dealing with us at dinner between ordering courses however, all staff were very pleasant, professional and polite throughout our stay.
Dropped a star for service, would highly recommend this for a few nights. Will visit them again.
