The Botanist Newcastle is a trendy gastropub-style venue located in Monument Mall. It offers a striking interior with a central bar featuring a tree and greenhouse herbs, creating an impressive setting for enjoying botanical cocktails. The menu features innovative dishes like pies and fish and chips, as well as delightful sharing boards. Additionally, the bar hosts live music events and offers bottomless brunch mornings with unlimited prosecco.
Monday afternoon very quiet only a few other customers at noon which was quite nice. The bar and restaurant look lovely with lots of natural light and good use of internal planting and furnishings. Staff were very attentive and professional, cannot fault at all. Food was served in good time and was absolutely delicious. Will definitely eat here again!
Gary H — Google review
A really enjoyable visit to The Botanist which is such a fun and funky place. A stunning glass dome with a huge tree in the middle of the bar and very cool decor throughout. James behind the bar made the best cocktails we have tasted for a long time and Jessie in the restaurant was a brilliant waitress. Will definitely return soon and would highly recommend it.
Rupert C — Google review
The staff were SO nice and the setting is quite dreamy. The menu looked delicious too, the only reason I give it 4* for food is because the fries were a bit too salty for my taste. I will definitely come back if I ever come back to Newcastle 🎉
Ina P — Google review
Had an amazing Brunch here with my Mom. The atmosphere was great with all the plants and light and decor, food delicious with good portion sizes, and our waitress Emily was friendly and welcoming! Would definitely recommend it!
Kara P — Google review
Sooooo beautiful inside! I couldn't stop looking around. The drinks and food were also great and creative. Staff was friendly and prices reasonable. Definitely recommend going here! (Would go here so often if I would've lived in Newcastle)

I’ve visited many times before and had a great experience, but yesterday was so appalling I believe the kitchen should be closed until they can sort out the immense amount of issues they clearly have as a restaurant. As a table of 6 we waited over half an hour for the food order to be taken, when we asked that all food come together (two starters, six mains). The starters arrived and 45mins later no mains. We spoke to a waitress to ask - 15 mins later still no one came to our table. After having to get up and ask to see the manager, she came and in her defence we could not fault her - there were clearly operational issues and she dealt with the situation well. However, when the food finally came - mixture of Sunday roasts and hanging kebabs - it was clear there was a fundamental issue. Chicken was dry and overcooked, roast potatoes swimming in oil, veg raw but burnt (how can you even do that?!) and the vegetarian gravy was beyond disgusting. Long story short, we paid for our drinks and not the food, however in total we wasted almost three hours of our Sunday evening which was meant to be a delightful start to our holiday with friends and our daughters. I truly believe the kitchen needs to close until they can cook food suitable to eat and train their new staff effectively. All in all a terrible experience and the pressure the manager is under is not appropriate. I’d highly recommend giving it a miss until they have turned themselves around.
Laura S — Google review
If you’re looking for a instagramable place, this is it. I was there today with a colleague. Loved the atmosphere. So much varieties of drinks. Compared to the ambience, the prices of the drinks are cheap. Being a Saturday evening it wasn’t very difficult to find a place to sit. But recommend to book a table prior of it’s a weekend. Loved the drinks. Will definitely visit again.
Ganisha S — Google review
Had bottomless brunch before a show at the theatre, drinks wise it is well worth the money but does have a limited menu, food was nice just very small and again limited menu, service was really good and nice, stunning location and interior as my only photo of the tree in the middle. Definitely go for the cocktails.

Wow. PTMY never seems to disappoint. The food is outstanding, service incredible and so attentive. These pictures say it all. Highly recommend we will be back!

Very trendy busy rustic restaurant with attached cool bar. Popped in December enjoyed a drink from huge gin menu and booked Valtentines after spotting restaurant and food being served. Scallops, arincini 5/5, Chateaubriand looked amazing cooked perfect but went cold quick unsure if the board or just every time door opened rush of air hit our area. Manager and staff great and attentive drinks slightly slow but manager chased up. Definitely go back but sit in upper area away from door. Thanks guys.

The toast with the mushrooms was a huge sized portion. The mushroom flavor was creamy and bold. I had the sirloin as the main course and it was paired with red wine. The Black truffle butter sauce was unique and it complimented the steak. The chips were not super starchy, and the crispy texture had you reaching for the next one. The waitresses knew the menu, as I had questions about what to order. Oh and they were friendly.

Jessica was our server tonight and she was absolutely amazing .. food was delicious and plentiful .. definitely worth a visit if you're up in Newcastle
Sharron W — Google review
Great Sunday family early dinner, had Sunday lunch menu. Food was great as well as service. Nice, suitably quiet atmosphere despite being busy, easy to have a conversation. We came with kids, they were also really well catered for. One wheelchair user in our group, the restaurant is nice and spacious, it was easy to move around. There is one section level with the entry (where we were seated) and another section up 2 steps.

We had an amazing experience with a set menu dine in tonight. With lovely helpful staff (lily was very attentive throughout) Food was unreal.

Great food, quick service and helpful staff. Our server Hannah was especially good. Sunday roast is a must!

Hazel has been absolutely brilliant. Attentive to details but not overstepping. Food was delicious, we chose to go for a rib eye and a fillet steak, both cooked perfectly and accompanied by a lovely red wine. All in all, a great evening. Definitely “pleased to meet you”. Thank you, Hazel, for looking after us

Digital is a popular dance club in Newcastle's Times Square, established in 2005 by Aaron Mellor. It's known for its sophisticated sound and light systems, hosting renowned DJs and offering eclectic weekly club nights. The expansive superclub features three rooms, an outdoor terrace, and high-tech equipment playing various music genres like dance, RnB, Soul, Funk, and Disco.
Went to an over 30’s afternoon nightclub event here which was really good fun. Everyone looked like they were having a fab time, lots of laughing, singing and ‘dancing like no one’s watching’ vibe. Brilliant!
Claire M — Google review
Shame really cause they actually get some great events on with amazing artists. But the bully bouncers ruins it for me. Been there multiple occasions with different friends and we all said the same. Angry unhelpful people. Could go into details of these occasions but wouldn’t want this review to go on and on. But really ruins the vibe of a good night. One occasion I saw a guy dancing and he got wiped out by bouncers like aggressively taken to the floor but in fairness I don’t know the reasoning behind that situation. I’ll stick to world HQ or NX for a more refreshing xp.
Manny — Google review
Attended an over 30s Metal /Emo/ Pop punk evening at Digital where they had two rooms running. The first has no air conditioning in and got incredibly unpleasant very fast, the second room thankfully had so we stayed in there. The toilets were pretty disgusting, stank and flooded but the deciding factor for us to not return is the drinks prices. For 2 double vodka and sodas and 2 Jack and coke's it cost 46quid when the same drinks in Trillians is just £16. So a heads up if you are going there, my recommendation is pregame or stay sober because the prices are criminal.
Tamsin R — Google review
Can't believe I paid £5 to enter, absolutely disgusted. Only good thing was the music for the pop punk/nu metal night. No coat room (I already have to look after my drink in case of it being spiked and now my coat). The toilets were shared men and women which meant I was having to clean urine off the toilet seat then there was no soap to wash my hands. The drinks were so expensive over £7 for single pink beefeater gin and lemonade. The drink didn't taste nice, the mixer sryup wasn't right and I'd expect Gordon's gin for that price. The 1 shot was under poured as well. 1/10 will not be back.
Billie L — Google review
Great 80s night just a shame the venue itself inside looks like something from 80s. Toilets need ripping out and replacing and some aircon would help when it’s fully packed venue.
Scotty 2 — Google review
Had an absolutely brilliant night seeing electric six with my daughter. First time in digital and it was spot on.
Simon P — Google review
Cool venue, seen a Prince Tribute here last night, good size venue, great atmosphere, sound was really good, staff were friendly n drinks were very reasonably priced for central newcastle.
Reef K — Google review
Good gig, however, the place was rammed, well over capacity, people could barely move around without spilling drinks. Really need to think about their numbers and safety rather than profit.. Sadly not somewhere I would really consider going back to for a gig.

Wylam Brewery is located in a picturesque spot, overlooking a small lake in the heart of Exhibition Park. The brewery is housed in a Grade II listed building that has undergone a loving renovation. Visitors can enjoy craft ale at the tap room and attend live shows in the events space. The venue is dog-friendly, making it perfect for leisurely afternoons with your furry friend.
I absolutely love photographing weddings at Wylam Brewery! It’s such a fun, vibrant venue and different. The mix of industrial feel and cool, relaxed vibes makes it perfect for capturing both laid-back moments and those fun, lively weddings. The space itself is amazing—high ceilings, exposed beams, and plenty of light to work with. Plus, the food and beers are always out of this world. Wylam Brewery is definitely one to check out!
Nick P — Google review
As brewery taprooms go this has to be by far the slickest one I’ve been in. The Taproom has the full range of Wylam beers including upto 4 cask options, the more informal terrace bar has just the craft. If unsure ask for a taster, they’re all top quality. The main hall is closed when private functions are taking place.
Mark N — Google review
Visited Wylam Brewery for a roast dinner recently, choices were beef, pork, lamb or a veggie option. (£19). We also added a side of cauliflower cheese between 4 of us which was very good probaly best ive had. The roast with served with a big Yorkshire pudding, green veg, smashed roots, roasted parsnip and roast potatoes. Beef was really tender and well cooked, potatoes could have been slightly better. Service was mostly good except some confusion at start. Drinks a little expensive but it is their own beers that they brew, it's dog friendly and they have a lovely beer garden for after
Elizabeth W — Google review
Excellent place this! Located in a large park in walking distance from the city center. I have been hear before but this time i had decided to also try their sunday roast. I would recommend to book in advance if you want to eat on a Sunday. Beautiful area both inside and outside the brewery with plenty of seating. This time there also was two food trucks located outside the brewery. Good selection of Wylam beers on tap. There was also a few guest beers. Great service from all of the staff. Got to try the new Wylam x Wor Flags collab, really nice fruity low abv pale ale. They were officially sold out of cans of this one, but one of the waiters suddenly told me he had one 4 pack left if i would like to bring some with me home, so that was a really nice gesture👌 The food did not dissapoint either. I had the Duck Leg Croquette and Topside of Galloway Beef. Sunday roast is my favourite british dish and this was top class 👌
Svein B — Google review
Celebrated a family get together for Sunday lunch, staff were polite and very helpful. The service was paced well for us though we did run over our time slot which didn't appear to be a problem. We pre ordered our meals as there was 15 of us and food was lovely and not excessive.
Suzanne W — Google review
We had Sunday dinner at Wylam Brewery and were really impressed. The pork was well-cooked, the cauliflower cheese was spot on, and the vegan dish was genuinely enjoyable. Everything was nicely balanced and the wine selection worked well with the meal. One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in a while.
Emily M — Google review
Unfortunately the inside was closed but we sat outside instead for a pint and a burger, lovely place to spend a few hours outside the busy and loud city center
Eugen F — Google review
This venue does not allow cars/taxi to drop you off at the door and therefore a long walk, in the pitch black to the door. Certainly not something I would have done if I was on my own as it does not feel safe. There was a shuttle bus (golf buggy) but it took too long to do each journey. Venue itself is beautiful and well looked after with a good range of drinks.

Pub
Nestled in Newcastle upon Tyne, The Forth is a lively and welcoming pub that offers a blend of vintage charm and modern style. With its log fire, terrace seating, and local art adorning the walls, this hidden gem provides a vibrant atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're looking to enjoy real ale by the fireside or sample their street food-style lunches and suppers, The Forth has something for everyone.
Great pub a little hidden away but super close too the station. Very welcoming of dogs; blankets, treats and water all freely available. Nice selection of beer and a fabulous crispy chicken burger for me. Spot on place for drinks and a bite with friends!

Paulicarus had to walk ten yards to his next pub, a beer Marque pub. Only a couple of real ales on out of four handpumos but St Austell Proper Job Pale Ale is a favourite. Rosie's Pig cider as well. Lots of standing space for busy times and surprisingly large pub with hidden rooms and an upstairs beer terrace. Toilets upstairs. Wife tells me lots of (7) ladies cubicles. Food served.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Booked for a friend’s birthday but waited 40 mins for food, which only arrived after we chased it. My fish and chips were warm (not hot) with soggy batter that was hard to cut (photo attached), and both friends’ meals were cold and sent back. As we were heading to another venue and had already waited long enough, I didn’t send mine back. No apology, no check-in, and overpriced for the quality. Lovely pub, but I won’t be eating here again.
Louise S — Google review
Superb Christmas buffet, cosy pub with friendly staff! I recently hired the space (Tommy Burns room) for a festive family gathering. From the very first email the staff were super friendly and helpful (Tom and Laura) answering all my questions. There were plenty of options on the Christmas buffet menu for meat-eaters and vegans and all absolutely delicious. All who attended were blown away by the food. I will definitely be returning…. the vegan cheesecake was to die for! The pub has a lovely cosy atmosphere and great music. We were able to request songs through the ‘Secret DJ’ app which was brilliant. Thanks to all at The Forth!!

We drink here most weeks, the atmosphere is lush, terrace for smoking, booths for chatting... equally welcoming for post work drinks or post match celebrations. Bar staff, John and Laura this evening, are welcoming, friendly and go above and beyond for cold drinks and good times :)

Tyneside Cinema, located in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, is a refurbished 3-screen cinema housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building. It offers a unique experience with comfortable seating and a diverse selection of films not commonly found elsewhere. The independent picture house also features two cafes and an airy bar, making it an ideal spot for pre or post-movie drinks. Additionally, Tyneside Cinema provides free guided tours and showcases newsreel displays.
Been here a few times great options for experiences such as the Mamma Mia! Sing-Along Bottomless Brunch. Alongside a diverse set of films to choose from and excellent prices for a lovely experience. I also very much enjoyed the decor at this establishment. The staff were very friendly and helpful whenever I visited.
Figuring O — Google review
Having tried to see a docu/movie last Sunday and due to not being able to get parked, didn’t manage to get to the venue in time and wasn’t able to cancel my booking however the cinema went beyond what I was expecting and credited my account to spend on another film which I did the following Wednesday. As someone who has worked in cinemas for decades and upto lockdown, frequented the Tyneside a few times a year so not a great customer. My visit on Wednesday left me feeling underwhelmed with the place, the famous Tea Room isn’t open anymore, there was hardly any visible staff, it appeared the circle area of the classic was closed as well, the place was pretty empty and felt soulless, a depressing sight. I was interested in applying for one of the jobs and was going to go to the open day this month and have a chat with someone about applying for one of the front of house jobs, but seeing the place as it was last Wednesday has put me off, I think it might be boring. Some cinemas have managed to rebuild business after the enforced closure, sadly the Tyneside seems it hasn’t. I wish the place well and hopefully one day it might see an increase in guests although without what was its great asset is no longer open, I don’t think it will. I was in a very small cinema, the Roxy yet despite a very small screen, the presentation was pretty good with a decent screen image and great sound, but can understand with smaller auditoria like Roxy, how people might just prefer watching movies at home as most people have large screens now. Was a sad visit as it was such a great place.
David B — Google review
Love this cinema 💗 I booked at the box office to see a film later that day, when I arrived I was told very apologetically by the lovely staff member that the film had to be cancelled due to a technical issue. My ticket was refunded plus I was given a voucher to see an alternative film free ! More than happy with this, thank you. I also enjoyed the coffee and the sweet potato fries in the cafe bar & the staff in there are really lovely too ! I have just found this great cinema & will be back as often as possible ! 💗
Marion — Google review
Tyneside is a reminder of how cinema is more than just a screen. In the days of multiplex & a digital life, Tyneside is one of the few remaining places that still truly feel like a real cinema. They have a welcoming foyer and the ground floor screen has comfortable original style cinema seats, and still has an actual ‘curtains up’. The building has some beautiful original interior, while being upgraded on upper floors to accommodate extra screens. The stairs are a trek, but thankfully there is a lift!! The cinema shows a variety of films from mainstream to indie, and shows many films you wouldn’t see at big chain places. Tickets are a little more than some places, but they offer discounts which are easily applied (I use a Cea card) and if you need to change your plans, I’ve found this cinema much more accommodating to this than many others. The staff are always friendly and ready to help, and though the bar/cafe area is often busy, it usually doesn’t take much time to be served. The food may not be cheap, but it’s always a healthy size & I’ve enjoyed the things I’ve tried from the menu so far. Keep it up Tyneside & I hope you’re long to remain a wonderful place, with a true cinema spirit.
Smee 8 — Google review
What a fantastic cinema in the heart of Newcastle. Staff very friendly - feels family run. Great bar as well, for pre drinks, and you can buy a bottle of wine to take in to watch the film.
Mark W — Google review
Have always had a good experience here. The seats are nice, the screens are clear (unlike an experience we had at Cineworld. Decent range of alcohol free beers which you can take into the film with you.
Sophia M — Google review
The Heritage tour was very informative, and it was great to learn about the history of the cinema from our Heritage Guide. The newsreel shown was from well before my time, and provided an excellent insight into past events and how they were reported. The Tyneside Cinema is well worth a visit
Alan M — Google review
One of the best independent cinemas going at the moment. Some of the best showings for the big upcoming new films with early releases. Comfortable seating, lovely cafe, cool overnight fun screenings and genuine staff, who’ve never been a problem but have always made the experience great! The Quayside - JD Wetherspoon is a charming pub with a rustic ambiance, featuring exposed beams, stone walls, and terrace tables. Situated in the picturesque area of Newcastle and Gateshead along the River Tyne, it has become a hub for modern arts, music, and culture. At night, the Quayside transforms into a vibrant scene with trendy bars offering stunning views of the riverfront.
Definitely the best Wetherspoon I've ever been! Sitting outside by the river on a sunny day.. taking in the view of the magnificent High Level Bridge a stunning piece of engineering over a hundred years old.. with a well-chilled pint in hand is just somehow uplifting..

Really friendly and helpful staff here. I managed to find a table on a Saturday night and use the app to order. Drinks were taking over 15 minutes to come out, which is fairly understandable for how busy they were. They got my first drink wrong, but I couldn't be bothered making an issue out of it as it was luckily something I don't normally mind drinking. Kept it quiet and ordered again to get the right one second time round.

I have been here a couple of times. As Don McLean might sing; A long, long time ago. Probably 30+ years. Alic surprised how busy it is on an early Tuesday evening. Had to sit in the courtyard as all tables gone inside. Bit chilly after an August storm. Boothroyd ordered a strong Dartmoor brewery 4.8% Jail Ale, all the way from Devon. £1.99! .. less 50p with a CAMRA voucher.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Really poor The staff are disinterested, and the one in the photo made us more as he wanted to store things where we were sitting. "Where should we move to"? "I dont know, anywhere..." Flat and warm Lager that you can't get changed as there are no staff with manners to talk to. Filthy tables ! I dont like it here....

A fabulous setting next to the Tyne with views of its famous bridges.Currently being renovated but very welcoming and a typical Spoons offering great value for money on food and beverage.Small but plenty of outside seating Very friendly service .It's popularity and location means it's very busy on weekends, especially nights, but we'll worth the downhill walk from the city centre

I work close by and have popped in for food many times over the years, today we ordered chips and a burger, the same we have ordered in the past. The Burger was over done and burnt with an extremely small portion of chips, in the past they included onion rings and coleslaw - I asked the waiter where’s the rest of the chips to be told we have reduced our portion sizes but we still use the large plates!!! We have decided we won’t be going back, there’s plenty of other places with better value!!

It's an ideal spot for enjoying drinks with friends or having a romantic meal overlooking the river. Additionally, they offer a tempting bottomless brunch every weekend.
It's my favourite place in Newcastle. When I feel sad and homesick, this is the place. Amazing atmosphere very relaxing and even when not sunny still beautiful. Always the best service; the waiter is extremely friendly, efficient, and helpful. The food is always excellent. I had a steak, and it was tender, flavourful , and perfectly cooked, as I requested.

Overall a very nice experience. Had a Caesar salad and an incredible French Martini recommended to me and made by a nice bartender, Brandon. Fun atmosphere, very pretty with it being right on the riverside with lots of sunlight. Would go again.

Blackfriars Restaurant is housed in a renovated friary that dates back over 800 years, located in the heart of Newcastle city center. The historic building served as a monastery retreat for over three centuries before being repurposed into meeting rooms and almshouses. Today, it features craft workshops, a gallery, and a gift shop alongside its renowned restaurant. The restaurant offers British cuisine served at heavy wooden tables within the former refectory of the friary.
First time trying this restaurant……boy I was not disappointed. Best Sunday lunch in the north east. Firstly the setting is lovely, fantastic outside seating area and stacks of character inside. Staff were lovely. Now the food ….. amazing. Pork belly lunch with a black pudding starter. Delicious and I would recommend to anyone. A lovely experience and I will be back again !

First visit here was for restaurant week, service was speedy, food was delicious, and well presented and the setting was fantastic, (we were seated in the banqueting hall). No complaints, empty plates all round. Highly recommended 👌

Been a few years since we were last here and was just as good as I remember. We got the langostine cocktail and scallop starters, with oyster and hash brown snacks. Followed by Duck breast and a side of cheese leeks. All dishes were exceptional, but I do need the recipe for the brown sauce that came with the hash browns. Or at least them to sell bottles of it. I've never felt so passionate about a condiment but this is well deserving. Service was great, attentive and friendly.

Celebrated my birthday in Blackfriars - this was my first visit. The venue is stunning - simply beautiful. Service - very friendly and professional. Food - wow 😲 delicious. Nothing to complaint. WOW, the food was so good, we originally started out planning to have two courses but couldn’t resist a third. Their homemade gluten free bread was the best bread I’ve had since being diagnosed coeliac. The staff took my allergies extremely seriously and made us feel very welcome. I couldn’t recommend this place highly enough, it was mind blowing.

Came for our 1st year wedding anniversary. The staff were all lovely, really nice to chat too, welcoming, professional and friendly. Everyone on the night was 10/10. Food was delicious, a good gluten free selection and understanding of coeliac, I'm not poorly this morning writing this so that bodes extremely well for there understanding too. They went the extra mile for us for our anniversary and it made our night that extra bit special for us. Thank you for amazing night.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a modern and iconic structure that spans the River Tyne, providing separate pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and engineered by Gifford, it stands out among the distinguished bridges in the area. Connecting Gateshead with Newcastle via Gateshead Quays and Newcastle's Quayside, this bridge not only serves as a functional crossing but also attracts visitors from around the world due to its elegant design and engineering marvel.
As a piece of architecture, this bridge is pleasing to the eye on many forms. It's presence is bold and demanding, you just have to look at it and figure out what it looks like without even moving. At night it is lit up to offer a beautiful spectrum against the blacked out background of the Tyne river. It also offers a beautiful view from a neighbouring Hotel we have stayed at several times. It was always a great little walk to wake up in the morning before diving back into the warm hotel for breakfast
Chris C — Google review
Gateshead Millennium Bridge – Engineering with Soul The Gateshead Millennium Bridge isn’t just a crossing—it’s a performance. Linking Newcastle’s Quayside with Gateshead’s cultural quarter, this sleek, tilting arc is a marvel of modern design and quiet drama. I visited on a breezy evening, just in time to watch the bridge tilt—a slow, graceful motion that earned it the nickname “Blinking Eye.” It’s the world’s first and only tilting bridge, and when it moves, it feels like the river itself is taking a breath. The structure is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, making it a peaceful vantage point to take in the Tyne’s historic skyline. Nearby, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and Sage Gateshead add cultural weight to the experience, while the Quayside buzzes with cafés and market stalls. Whether you’re drawn by its engineering or its elegance, the Millennium Bridge offers a moment of quiet connection—between cities, between people, and between past and future.
Aseem S — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in the North East. It’s not just a bridge, it’s a piece of art and engineering brilliance. The tilting design is incredible to see in action, and at night the lighting makes it even more spectacular. Great place for a walk, cycling, or just enjoying the Quayside views. Definitely a must-visit in Newcastle and Gateshead!
Waleed A — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is absolutely stunning and a must-see in Newcastle–Gateshead. Its unique tilting design makes it one of the most impressive bridges I’ve ever visited, both as a piece of engineering and as a landmark. Walking across gives you great views of the Quayside, and at night the bridge lights up beautifully, creating a magical atmosphere. It’s also right by plenty of pubs, restaurants, and attractions, so it’s perfect to include as part of an evening stroll. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, it’s an iconic spot that captures the energy and character of Newcastle. Highly recommended, especially at sunset or after dark when the reflections on the water are incredible.
U B — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a beautiful and absolutely stunning arched bridge — its unique tilting design and illuminated reflections make it a must-see landmark in Newcastle–Gateshead. Walking across offers fantastic Quayside views, and nearby restaurants, it’s perfect for an evening stroll. Highly recommended, especially at sunset or after dark.
Majid H — Google review
Every time I cross this bridge to visit the Baltic I marvel at the amazing views it offers. It is visually very beautiful from afar and the practical elements of the design allows for both pedestrians and cyclists to cross in their own safe space. In the past I have taken some lovely photos of the bridge at twilight; sadly on my most recent visit it was too cold and blustery to hang around until the light started to fade.
Anne S — Google review
Haven't seen it move, but it would have been an interesting observation as this idea is unique
Eugen F — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a stunning example of modern engineering and design, linking Gateshead and Newcastle over the River Tyne. Its unique tilting mechanism, resembling a “blinking eye,” is both functional and mesmerizing to watch in action. The sleek, arched structure is particularly beautiful when illuminated at night, casting reflections on the water. Offering scenic views of the river and surrounding landmarks, it’s a favorite spot for photographers and visitors alike. While weather and timing for the tilt might affect the experience, the bridge remains a must-see icon of innovation and elegance.

Free... free... for free. A amazing place to visit better than other nearby museums with respect. Loads of exhibits and things to enjoy inside. Loved the challenger 2 tank outside. Loved walking through Newcastle over the years. No pressure to donate just a few stations scattered about unmanned asking for donations. Staff where helpful and friendly and with it being big your never too close to other people and you've time to absorb and enjoy the exhibits.

Took a train ride with the children and had a under 10 minute walk to the museum. It is free to enter, wheelchair accessible and pushchair friendly, they have places to park your pram or pushchair. They have a cafe. Plenty of things to do, lots to learn and see and plenty of interactive things. 3 floors to interact with, our children range from 2 to 14 and they all enjoyed it. Highly recommend

Booked in for a activity that was making a madel around a moving sphere so we could pick up recycling. It was a small booking fee for adults and child and the 4yr old could come for free. This was harder then I expected but we had a lot of fun and the staff were amazing with both children. Especially since the youngest went rogue controlling the sphere and kept trying to eat the ladies lunch. They absolutely loved this

It’s free so who’s to complain? Daughter (2) and newborn had a great few hours out, sadly I didn’t get time to read much of the stuff as my toddler wanted to run around, it’s a great place for a free day out and I often go there for a day out to also Take my older kids who were at school this day but it does get busy on school holidays and weekends. Situated in Gateshead Quays, the center contributes to the area's cultural regeneration alongside The Glasshouse International Centre for Music.
We had our wedding breakfast and reception at the Baltic and would highly recommend it! The venue itself was stunning; both the outside of it and also the views from within. We had our wedding breakfast on the top floor in restaurant SIX with amazing views over the Tyne and Gateshead. The food was great and we received lots of compliments from our guests for it. We had the evening reception in the Riverside room, with an outdoor terrace overlooking the Tyne. The sun was shining and the vibes on the terrace were perfect! The staff at the Baltic were great. The wedding planners helped us plan out every detail, coordinated with suppliers and were great on the day. We really appreciate all the hard work they all put in, and for looking after us so well. We had our dream wedding here and couldn’t have picked a better venue!

Called in late afternoon- it’s open till 6pm and is free. Wasn’t thrilled by the current exhibitions and only 2 floors were open. The Parasite exhibit didn’t explain enough for me to get what it was about. Good view of the river and city from 5th floor. Restaurant looked pricey but pleasant. Staffed by helpful people. We took the 54 bus back into Newcastle centre which was convenient.

Hayoung — Google review
One of our favourite family places to visit! The Baltic is free to enter (donations welcomed) and incredibly accessible for me (physically) and sensorily from our experience with our ND children. Of course, as a gallery, the exhibits change every few months. Recently two of our girls have LOVED the Harold Offeh: The Mothership Collective 2.0 which is a sensory explosion of bright colours, free play musical instruments, words to rearrange and toys to enjoy- the instruments are not loud , so even with a group of children accessing them, it's not overwhelming. This exhibition is available until January 2026. Having a "permanent" room is a huge pull for our youngest especially- and even more so when it features a sensory room. Think dimmed lighting, bubble tune, light boards, sequin boards and more wooden rainbow blocks than you could need. It's the perfect chill out space for anyone who needs it.

From exploring space to conducting experiments, kids can enjoy educational experiences through playful means. The center features a planetarium, themed shows, and a 4D Motion Ride. It's the perfect place for families to combine education with fun games while working together.
So much to do! We went with children aged 4, 7 and 11 and there was something for all of them. There's so much to get hands on with including experiments with forces, gravity, balance, light, sound, illusions, memory, spacial awareness and many more. The lab area for 7+ allows them to do structured experiments following step by step instructions on a touch screen. The space area has a fab interactive area for younger children and there's a soft play space for under 7s on the top floor. You can try your hand at controlling NASA style computers, listen to the experiences of real astronauts and find answers to questions such as how you go to the toilet in space. We didn't make it to any of the shows and still could have spent more time there! Highly recommend if you have children with inquisitive minds and busy hands.

We went here in the summer and the food was 10/10. A bit on the pricier side but definitely worth it in our opinion! I had the duck starter as a main course and it was delicious, my boyfriend said the calamari starter is the best he’s ever had. Nice music playing and it wasn’t super busy as we went for lunch.

The catalyst for the cocktail making scene the alchemist is exactly what you expect, boujee cocktails but at a very high price. There is a lot of selection on the menu for drinks & something for everyone. Plus if your abit of a plain Jane, they do pornstar martinis as well. Most drinks have a little bit of their own spin to them & its nice place to go for a date. Had a dj on as we went on a Saturday night & he played some decent music to fit the vibe of the place. Definitely would recommend going the alchemist but there are also other unique cocktail bars in newcastle.

After having a pretty crap experience at another place, me and my friend decided to try this one as we were passing and what a great idea! The bartender, Lilly, was absolutely fantastic! She was fast, passionate, so friendly and was just mesmerising to watch. She was making so many different cocktails continuously and it was just amazing, and they were all delicious! Couldn't recommend this place more. Great atmosphere, great staff, great cocktails. Brilliant. Promote that girl!

The table location was nice, although a little too hot at first – but before we even mentioned it, a lovely manager noticed and offered us a cooler spot. Such a thoughtful gesture, and it really set the tone for the evening. The waiters were all very friendly and attentive, especially ours (I wish I had caught his name). The atmosphere is cozy yet stylish, with interior design that really stands out. All the little details – from the glasses and cutlery to the décor – make it feel special, and the seating was incredibly comfortable. The food itself was fine, but the real star of the show was the cocktails – mine was absolutely incredible. In my opinion, The Alchemist shines more as a cocktail destination than a dining spot, but overall the experience was really pleasant and definitely worth the visit.

Lola Jeans is a stylish and versatile venue offering a wide range of international dishes and cocktails. Originally established in Tynemouth, it expanded to Newcastle's Market Street, where it has garnered praise for its elegant interior design that transforms from a relaxed cafe during the day to a speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar at night. The menu features American comfort food with a focus on burgers and tantalizing taco options like Korean chicken or Baja fish.
Amazing grub! Fully worthy of award winning burgers. I had the 'California' and it delicious. Really tasty patties and a lovely soft bun. The red onion jam was sweet and paired beautifully with the salt beef. I'd have liked a little more of the salt beef meat though. The sweet potato fries were great and my girlfriend enjoyed her chicken tenders. Pretty good portion sizes. The place has a nice atmosphere, a fantastic bar selection and the staff were top notch. Definitely somewhere I'll go again soon! Next visit: More excellent food! Having already experienced fantastic scran at both this branch and the Tynemouth one me and my girlfriend were excited to go back for more. I went for the 'Duke' burger which was delicious. Really well cooked patties and fantastic flavours. We also enjoyed some halloumi fries and chicken tenders. The drinks range is great and the staff are lovely. It's a beautifully decked out place and definitely a go-to place for us now.

An incredible experience! Food was heavenly. Service was gentle and beautiful. Atmosphere was lovely. This place hits all the right notes. Their eventual goal is to elevate the customer's experience. They look at you as humans who deserve rest, great food, tender care and the best experience for the palate. If I didn't live across the world, I would goo there regularly. By far, my best ever restaurant experience, ever, in Europe.

We chose Lolas for a private function and had the perfect space and service. Aiden and his team did a fabulous job of getting everything arranged for us and Charlotte behind the bar was great too! All 29 of us had an amazing time and the buffet was absolutely delicious! Thank you so much for making our special evening even more special! 🙏🏼✨️

Spent my birthday meal here and oh wow!! the cocktails were amazing! the burgers were so so good! i had a tickle the pickle burger and loved it! the triple cooked chips that came with it were fab and tasted homemade for sure, my friend only had a side of the ultimate mac and cheese as she had already eaten but my goodness it was huge! the staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming and the surrondings just gorgeous, will definitely be back and soon!

I had not returned for years because the music used to be so loud to the point you couldn't enjoy talking to the people you went out to see, however was so relieved when I did and this was not the case. I have always been a big fan of the food and I'm pleased to feel I can return and enjoy this again. It is lovely inside and you do feel like you're going 'out out' when visiting :)

Amazing and relaxing interior, perfect for dates, fine dining vibe restaurant and bar, food was ok, baby got back burger was dry, and cheesesteak rolls were ok

Great burgers, and winners of so many battles of the burgers for a reason - it’s easy for mist burgers to taste similarly but these ones are quite unique from each other. Cocktails are amazing as well, very well made and sometimes come in fun glasses/cups. The interior has recently changed quite a lot but the menu and food are just as great as before.

Couldn't recommend the place enough. Came in on a busy Saturday (match day too) and the food and service was top tier. Staff were so attentive and accommodating, especially with an awkward dietary requirement - couldn't sing the staff's praises enough. Will definitely be back !

The Laing Art Gallery, located in Newcastle upon Tyne, is the city's oldest gallery and a hub for historic, modern, and contemporary art. The gallery showcases 18th-20th century British oil paintings and watercolors in its vaulted-ceilinged galleries. Established in 1904 with funds from Alexander Laing, it houses an extensive collection of British artworks including pieces by John Martin, Paul Gauguin, Joshua Reynolds, and Edward Burne-Jones.
Well laid out and themed galleries gave a nice afternoon activity. I particularly enjoyed the emphasis on local artists and subjects. It’s nice to see the heritage of the area through the eyes of both historic and more modern artists. The gallery was also free to visit which was a nice and welcome surprise.
Peter B — Google review
The Lang Art Gallery is in a lovely building in the centre of Newcastle. The main part of the gallery is free and contains a variety of artworks. There is also a section where you can buy tickets. The current exhibition is ‘Romance to Realities’ where they are displaying art relating to the changing landscapes of the North. It was interesting to see paintings from Durham, Northumberland, and the Scottish boarders. I felt it was worth paying to see. The Gallery has a cafe but I cannot comment on this as I didn’t go in. The gift shop sold a selection of goods from books and cards to jewellery and bags. I travelled by train and it took less than 15 mins to walk from there.
Melanie H — Google review
We went today with my daughter because she loves art, and it was incredible. I think everyone should take their kids there to see so many historical pieces and amazing artwork. There are five different art rooms you can visit for free, and there are more exhibitions available if you’re willing to pay.
Shoayb H — Google review
Free art gallery with a cafe and a shop. There's also an exhibition currently (With These Hands) that requires an admission charge, but I couldn't find information about it (on-site) so I chose not to visit it. However, the free exhibitions are nice on their own. Definitely worth a visit.
Tim P — Google review
A really cool art gallery with some great Newcastle glass and pottery. Short walk from Manors and Monument stations. Good cafe as well! 😀
William B — Google review
The Laing Art Gallery features an impressive mix of British art, from classic oil paintings to contemporary exhibitions. Housed in a charming Edwardian building, the gallery offers well-curated and informative displays. Admission is free, and the friendly staff make your visit even better. There’s also a cosy café to relax in after exploring the art, and a playroom for kids, which closes at 15:30 for cleaning. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy art in the heart of Newcastle.

Grainger Market is a lively market hall that has been around since 1835, housing over 80 vendors selling a variety of goods including produce, meat, and vintage items. It's a historic part of Newcastle's city center where shoppers have been finding household essentials and unique items for generations. The market offers a wide range of products from around the world under its iconic arched roof.
A unique place. Lots of different eats places, we chose items from a bakery and pizza, freshly made £3.00 for a slice bigger than my head! Great selection of other stalls selling a wide variety of meats, fish, fruit, vegetables, bakery, deli and speciality foods. Look and you'll find the remaining M &S penny bazaar...such a treat. Great space with a welcoming vibe
Buddy E — Google review
Loved wandering around Grainger Market! Such a lively place with so much character. From old-school butchers and bakeries to little cafés and international street food, there’s always something to explore. Ended up snacking my way through and even picked up some local goodies. It’s not fancy, but it feels authentic and full of charm – definitely a spot to experience the real Newcastle vibe.

When visiting the Granger Market I always like to call in to the Firebrick Brewery shop for a couple of drinks. The shop has a large selection of canned craft ales and a nice selection of their own keg beers too. They kindly allow you to bring your own food in which you can purchase from the vast selection of food outlets around the market. Great place to sit and relax.

During a fleeting vist back to Newcastle we walked through Grainger Market - wonderful arcades selling huge selections of meat, Poultry, vegetable and fruit - clothing - cafes with great local food n drinks - we had Sausage rolls with Jalapeños and another with black pudding - yhe pastry was wonderfull - thoroughly enjoyed

I get it why it's so popular and people visiting. Well layout and with a plethora of shops, dining places and a couple of coffee shops. Fresh produce, meat market, everything you would expect and more. Currently under refurbishment and a couple of areas restricted. My only feedback is the lack of public toilets, we've been told due to the renovation!
Alexandros K — Google review
Went on Wednesday and about 50% of the stalls were either, closed or vacant, good selection of places to eat and what stalls were open were very good, however, there is building work going on there and whoever thought it was a good idea to close the toilets, without an on site alternative, needs to rethink there idea. With no disabled loos on site the alternative is a walk to the nearby shopping centre, not fun when you are desperate to go, not too mention all the staff that work there. Have some common sense.

Grey's Monument, erected in 1838 to honor the 2nd Earl Grey, is a significant landmark in Newcastle. The 40-meter high column features a statue of the Earl atop it and serves as a popular meeting point for locals. Visitors can climb to the top for stunning panoramic views and photo opportunities. Situated at the heart of Grainger Town, it marks the retail center of Newcastle and is surrounded by Georgian buildings, including the iconic Grey Street.
All the neigbourhood is very stylish(Parisian/neo classic) and so well designed but looked desperately empty! There was noone but fancy, pretty, posh restaurants with fasionable gardening corners.

Grey’s Monument is a must-see landmark in Newcastle! The statue itself is impressive, standing tall and offering a striking view over the city. The surrounding area is always lively, with street performers, local vendors, and plenty of people passing by, giving it a vibrant atmosphere. It’s a great spot to take in the sights, people-watch, or simply enjoy the historic significance of the monument.
Highway V — Google review
A great meeting place where you’ll often find people playing music, waiting for friends and hanging out. The brilliant thing about the monument is you can climb up inside and see the incredible views at the top. It’s 163/4 steps to the top snd the tours happen infrequently, you can find out more about them through NGI (Newcastle Gateshead initiative). The tours are excellent snd guides are volunteers who are very knowledgable about the cities history, definitely recommend booking one if you can.

It's at the centre of the city centre surrounded by beautiful buildings. There is no way you can miss this beautiful structure and wonder. Around it the area is buzzing with eateries, shopping centres and talented musicians who sing or add music to the street.

Great part of Newcastle. What's not to love. Great restaurants, galleries, great little theatre at Quayside, good metro and friendly people.
Jacqueline N — Google review
Grey's Monument is a historic monument in central Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is nice to hang out on this street, crowded with people, which is what distinguishes it. There are many restaurants and cafes along the street as well as a shopping centre. The metro station is nearby and the place can be reached easily.
Mohammad — Google review
Amazing historic column in the centre of Newcastle, stunning views from street level as well as from top. Absolutely favorite in Newcastle, just get there in the evening, sit near the monument and the whole town rotates around you. There are restaurants available nearby as well. Bus stops are a stone throws away and you can see down the grey street till the theater which leads down to Quay side. Wonderful place.
Win T — Google review
The monument is impressive as the whole street. The old architectures along the Grey Street are so magnificent, when walking along it, I was like stroking in 19 century. If it was not because of the cloudy, I believe the sunlight shines on the stones would be stunning. The first buildings on either side of Grey Street are very beautiful. Any corner or pillar can make excellent backgrounds for photoshoots.

This exclusive venue opens to the public on special occasions and features a chic Miami vibe with refreshing drinks like the Mojito Del Sol. Amazing views of the Tyne bridge the old keep and surrounding area. Table service was quick and very very friendly, cocktails were very good. There is no getting away from the fact this place is not as cheap as other bars nearby, but your paying for where you are and the views and the service and the great cocktails so suck it up. Also if you like banging music then DJ night is a must

Visited for afternoon tea. Food very nice, views excellent, staff friendly and helpful. But, we spent 2 weeks attempting to email and call to use a voucher (as per the instructions on their voucher) and got no confirmation. Eventually managed to speak to someone the day beforehand who confirmed our booking verbally. On arrival the staff seemed confused by our voucher and said the till didn't really like voucher codes. Eventually got that sorted, but seeing as the voucher was from their own company it should have been far simpler. Cocktails nice, but very expensive. The room is totally out of keeping with the rest of the hotel - very bright blue lights. We would go back, but wouldn't bother with the faff of the voucher. It's worth going for one drink for a look at the views, but I wouldn't pay for a second round

We were staying in the attached hotel, Vermont, and came here after a meal for a night cap. We didn't book but got offered a table on the terrace which was ideal as it was quiet and good for conversation. The place got busy as the evening progressed and Im not sure you would get in without a booking. Service was attentive without being over bearing, and the cocktails were fun. Views were great over the Tyne.

We celebrated my daughters 30th birthday recently, side room leading to the roof terrace. Can I firstly state the reception staff and concierges were excellent. We had about 35 persons celebrating within the room, we had a minimum spend of £2k and had left a £500 deposit. The general manager (Above) George was literally so helpful, nothing was a problem, as was Travis and Jack on the bar. We covered the minimum spend, as a special moment George brought out some small plates buffet, which was really appreciated. All and all we had a great night. Only one issue, the £500 deposit. It has taken almost two weeks to have this returned, I had to request help from George and head office staff. But other than would definitely recommend. Thank you.

Fantastic views over Newcastle. Service was rubbish, taken to an outdoor table, and after waiting 20 minutes for service, we left There were a dozen staff trying to look busy indoors, and with only 20 groups service should have been quick. It could do with some low level lighting outside. Other than the view there is nothing to recommend for this bar.

We visited on 10th August 2025. Not a good experience. Waited a long time for serving staff to come over and then again for our drinks. The table was dirty and the menus sticky. The cocktails had excessive ice, making them far weaker than normal. Completely overpriced for the quality we received. What is more disgraceful is that I have sent emails of complaint not only to the bar but also to the hotel it sits above. I have also used a contact form on the website. They have completely ignored every one of my communications. Poor experience and even worse customer service, they need to act their together. They got 2 stars for the great view from the bar.

We were told about this place by my cousin who lives in Newcastle, and it didn't disappoint! We met for a couple of quiet drinks and a catch-up, with live music on a Sunday evening. The place is huge with so much to see and look at! We got served by 2 lovely ladies, then got seated. There were only about 8 people in when us 4 arrived, but the atmosphere was relaxed and chilled. There was a guy singing on a small stage playing an acoustic guitar, he was fantastic! We found out he's the regular Saturday night singer, bloody amazing! As we were sat, the 2 ladies kept coming round taking our drinks orders and bringing them to our table! The place soon filled up! A very homely feeling and somewhere I'll definitely go to again! I didn't get many photos as my phone died, but I highly recommend this place on a Sunday! Can't wait to visit again! Only had drinks, no food.

Wonderful bar with live music even on a Wednesday night. Atmosphere and service were fantastic. Good value 2 for £15 cocktails with interesting options that make you want to try everything on the menu! Will definitely return next time I'm in Newcastle. Music was great and just what I needed.

Was told about this place for an after dinner drink and live music. Very well decorated and cosy surroundings, bit of a gentleman lounge bar feeling. Great place to finish off the Sunday evening, and the singer on stage, Dave Lynas, was amazing and played quite a catalogue of music. Staff were coming around every so often to take drink orders, so they didn't even have to move. Massive selection of drinks and deals on cocktails too.

Good selection of cocktails and spirits. Table service. Quirky emporium. Staff are friendly. Live music. If you are going in the evening or at the weekend it’s best to book a table as it gets busy as it’s very popular.

Wow, wow, wow!!! This place is just astonishing. My first time visiting here today and I love it. The decor is beautiful with a good combination of lighting, plants and quirky furniture. The staff were lovey and so helpful and I had the most delicious cocktail ever which was a happy ever after. This was followed up by a strong but not forgotten which was delicious also. I would strongly recommend this place for a good drink and it offers sessions to attend cocktail making classes.

I stumbled upon this unique place tonight when I was with friends - thinking it was just another bar before I entered I was amazed by the interiors and feel of the place. I felt like I’d stepped into a sailor’s 1800’s vortex - I LOVED IT! Ordering a Spicy margarita and a Orange Margarita (Margarita Mondays) they were brilliant and so we later ordered a second drink (more margaritas!) The bar wasn’t too busy with a chilled vibe about the place, with an attentive bar lady named Emma- was perfect for a casual Monday drink. Think I have found my new favourite bar! Affordable, good location, tasty and unique atmosphere 10/10.

Be wary if paying by cash for your drink! There was table service, but as I didn't want to stop and count a lot of small coins, I just handed over a 5 pound note. I assumed the server would come back with my change, but he never did, so I ended up paying £5 for a half pint of Pepsi Max that was worth £2.90!

We had our wedding celebrations at the Holy Hobo and it was fantastic! Special shout out to Cal and Kirstin who completely understood what we wanted and managed to create a casual and fun but still 'weddingy' afternoon and evening. Everyone has raved about how delicious the food and drinks were, how good the atmosphere was, and generally how much fun it was! You helped decorate, accommodated our photo opp (and babysat it afterwards...thank you!!). DJs organized for us, and were amazing, karaoke finished the evening off perfectly too. Everyone was lovely and we really appreciate how easy the whole thing was from start to finish, loads of options and nothing was a problem (non alcoholic options, delicious vegan choices etc). Nestled in the heart of Newcastle, The Stand Comedy Club offers a delightful escape into the world of laughter and entertainment. This vibrant venue features nightly stand-up performances from both local talents and international stars, ensuring that every visit is filled with joy and humor. After exploring the city's attractions, gather your friends or a special someone for an unforgettable evening at this basement comedy haven. The Stand is renowned for hosting some of the best comedians around, including legends like Fred MacAulay and Frankie Boyle.
Red Raw at The Stand on Wednesdays is always a great night out. Really interesting to see comedians at such different stages of their journeys. Some in their infancy, even performing for the first time, more established acts just trying out new material. Always a rollercoaster - some raising the roof immediately, others starting off slow but picking up as they find their footing and become more confident with the crowd, others struggling be it due to understandable nerves or material just not going as planned but there’s always such an encouraging atmosphere, you feel that everyone is rooting for each other. Given the prestige and track record of this comedy club - many performers going on to achieve great success, any one of the comedians you watch perform for the first time could become the next big thing, such an exciting and inspiring feeling. Also, surprisingly good food and drink menu here. Service is friendly and fast. Would recommend the veggie hot dog in particular.

Great night of comedy! We got there right at 6:30 and got great seats. It did fill up quickly, so glad we were there early. It was also great to have food service. While the line to order was long, the food was super quick to come out and delicious! Drinks were also good and a good price! I’d come back for a show again. Joe Heenan was a great host. They certainly pick on the people in the first row or two, so be prepared for that!

The basement is a great comedy club only one thing I can find as an inconvenience, places to put your drinks as not every where has a table. You might leave your drink under a chair if someone is minding it for you. The rest of the place. Nice place to check out. Food prices varies a lot. Got a huge double dog bun for £5! There’s also a leather smith whose been selling there for 5 decades. He is very entertaining and friendly. Bought 2 leather pouches for £4 each! Theres plenty of food stores to check out as well as small artisanal shops!

My photos don’t really do much justice for these Markets which are truly amazing in what’s offered. The food offered alone just looks incredible and so tasty, unfortunately we had brekkie earlier but this will not stop us coming back next time we visits our daughter in University here.

Lovely craft market with a good variety of stalls and some high quality craftmanship. Also an excellent street food section. Tasty, good value and generous portions

Came up for the weekend and stumbled on this great Sunday market. The whole place was buzzing and so many stalls to look at for gifts and souvenirs, plus loads of places selling sweet treats and a section of fantastic street food vendors. So much choice we struggled to choose and ended up going to 4 different places! Will be returning the next time I am in the north east on a Sunday for sure!

The Cluny, situated in a former 1848 mill in Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, is renowned as one of the top music venues in the North East. It has hosted legendary gigs and offers a unique dining experience with locally sourced meat burgers and a wide selection of local and world beers. This multifaceted establishment also houses a gallery, theater venue, and a bustling kitchen serving homemade dishes like lamb stew and sandwiches.
The Cluny is still a great pub and venue, they've been holding this spot down for decades, first visit in the last 6 months, great selection of different beers, ales, a lot of them local. Food is good modern pub grub, cooked well and not over priced. Always a solid choice.
BROON B — Google review
Busy pub, was at two of its spaces Clunny 2 and Clunny 1, full disabled access to all areas, staff were good, seating available in Clunny2 more of a standing venue in 1, but you can bring seats in from the bar, if you need to sit. Good car parking nearby.
Stan M — Google review
What an absolutely amazing place. As a first time visit it was a bit maze like if you look around C2 as well with it's staircase but what a fantastic set up! Good selection if beers on cask and keg and a lovely looking pub. Then you go round the corner through what looks like a cupboard door and you are in a little music venue with it's own small bar. Brilliant atmosphere and absolutely loads going on, pretty much something every night. Absolute shining light for real ale and the music industry. (We saw Reverend Peyton and his Big Damn Band and they were superb.)

A Newcastle classic. Good beers, great cocktails. Terrace is always lively in summer too.

Okay, so... the drinks menu at this bar is in a state of continuous evolution. However, bar staff - such as Matty - are legends in the bar scene and have the wealth of knowledge and skill to remember the classics, even when off the menu. Five of us in today, and the bar heroes - again, Matty. Remember that name, that man is skilled - has made all of our favourite drinks monthsand in some cases years since they've left the menu. Don't be misleaded. If the bar is rammed, then don't be that guy/gal. Thwybe got people to serve. But, this team and this bar WILL find you a drink you love.

Within its walls, you’ll find an array of bars such as Lloyds No. 1 Keel Row, known for its cozy ambiance and affordable drinks, alongside The WonderBar where e-darts games add to the fun atmosphere.
Love this restaurant! Friendly staff, casual dining, reasonable prices, wide menu with lots of authentic dishes. The decoration is brilliant. It really has the feel of having street food in Bangkok.

Depends what you want. The arcade is daylight robbery. The bars are mostly far too busy and far too noisy* Experiences like escape rooms and axe throwing in there are very good. * Whilst everybody else is fighting to get served in Wetherspoons, there is a lovely Indian restaurant and bar opposite.

Heart of town. (Shame the Mayfair was abolished for the gate mind). A cheap jar at spoons if wanted, the casino is bang on, and seen a couple of gigs in the bar at the front, its a good starting point for a night on the hoy. The parking is grand as well but can back up quick into Stowell street and if you get stuck in the queue you are knackered as can't move.

Pub
Located on the banks of the Tyne River in Newcastle upon Tyne, The Tyne Bar is a cozy pub offering a wide selection of ales and a vibrant atmosphere. The pub features a free jukebox, live music, and a garden sheltered by the arch of a road bridge. It's an iconic establishment in the city with picturesque views of the river. The outdoor space is popular when the sun shines, and it champions independent beer.
Great bar with a fantastic outdoor space, perfect for sunny days. There is plenty of seating and a good atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the service is quick. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a chilled outdoor drinking spot. Five stars! Their house pale is always the best, but they also bring ales from local breweries. I feel like their Blue moon has a taste.
Rajasekar S — Google review
Love this place and its location. Indoors quite traditional britisk pub. Decent selection of taps including cask. Large outdoor seating area, so specially on a nice sunny day its really nice here. They do serve food here. I had a german hot dog which was quite nice.
Svein B — Google review
Food great. The one thing that I can't look past is that when it's busy they don't just let people wait at the bar in conventional fashion. We need to stop normalising single file queues (which often stretch way out of the door at busy times). Bars are designed as such that people stand along the length of it. If I want a drink I shouldn't have to leave the building.
Chris D — Google review
I was introduced to the Tyne Bar in 2018. It was good to be back! Authentic is overused but this place is genuinely the real deal. Situated between the canal and the River Tyne, almost a hidden gem, but with plenty of locals to feed the atmosphere. We sat outside with drinks and home made brownies. Highly recommended 👏👏👏

I sat outside on a quiet early autumn afternoon in the sun. Really relaxing, with a gentle breeze. The beer is very well kept and I couldn't fault the selection. Staff were excellent. Very welcoming and helpful. Not expensive and close enough to the centre to be a pleasant walk along the river. Definitely recommend here and will be back.

Jalou in Newcastle is hands down one of the best spots in the city for a night out! The vibe is always on point, especially at the weekends when they play incredible R’n’B tunes that keep the energy high all night long. The music alone makes it worth a visit, but the cocktails take it to another level — the zombie cocktails are an absolute must try! Strong, delicious, and served with a bit of flair, they’re the perfect way to kickstart your night. Can’t recommend Jalou enough for anyone looking for great music, amazing drinks, and a guaranteed good time.

Wouldn't have gone into this establishment if I knew about what they were doing it's very bad how the night wasn't even busy!! but glass collectors took my two full drinks!! when my back was just turned for 1min outside having a smoke then when time to finish i was physically pushed out trying to finish my drink never waste cash money spend it wisely somewhere else what a disappointment for Newcastle upon tyne

Whenever I come to Newcastle, this is somewhere I always enjoy going for a couple of cocktails before getting the train home! The cocktails here are out of this world and they taste divine! They’re literally some of the best cocktails that I’ve had, and I’ve had a few! They’re a nice change from your boring old cosmopolitan or strawberry daiquiri! My favourite is the marshmallow martini, where they use their own homemade marshmallow foam to mix in with the cocktail, topped off with a toasted at the bar marshmallow! Definitely exciting!

Great find for ravers, cool spot with an intimate feel and solid sound system. Two floors with different vibes. Very affordable entry cost, paid £5 at around midnight. Downside was no apparent cloakroom. Highly recommend for those who enjoy drum and bass/techno!

This club, is my favourite spot in newcatsle, absolute essential for the drum and bass scene, I feel safe, comfortable, and surrounded by good people when I visit here, I frequently attend drum and bass events, definitely more than a monthly basis, I have never seen any problems, attitudes or negativity. <3

I can’t say how much I appreciate the bouncers of world HQ tonight. I’ll be honest, I’m not a reg, infact I’ve not been in the club since I was a fresh 18 yo (I’m 27now). But I was in after a rave tonight and in the queue a bunch of all lads behind us were being excessively rude and mean. I did end up saying some sassy stuff back to them which ended up in one particular lad saying I should have my face smashed in and started punching the air to demonstrate. The bouncer (Jed I believe his name was- you’re an angel) immediately sorted it right out, moved us out of the way inside and told the guys straight up they weren’t welcome because of how they acted. While he was dealing with it a couple of the group managed to get in and were saying very rude and unkind things to me and the other bouncer (who was completely unaware of the situation until then) asked me if there was a situation and immediately told they three guys they were also not allowed to go in because of their behaviour. Unfortunately I didn’t get his name but I can’t say thank you enough. I don’t go out much these days, cause I’m an anxiety freak, and after they kicked off I was so ready to just go home, but these guys totally handled it and made sure I felt safe and I can’t thank them enough for that. Such a small thing but they will never know how much it meant to me. Thank you guys, you really did you mums and grandmothers proud with how you took care of one little weird girl tonight 🫶🏼
Kelly H — Google review
This was a great nightclub after midnight, with a variety of booming music across both floors! The atmosphere and setting are phenomenal, toilets were clean too. Good selection of drinks with me having a Newcastle Ale and Redstripe, although entry fee is a tad expensive.
K. P — Google review
Wow. Was just reminiscing about seeing Super Furry Animals here about 30 years ago so Googled it and the club is still here! On the basis that it was a 5 star place three decades ago I’m going to assume it’s still a great night out! So happy that the place has survived all this time.
Andy W — Google review
Both floors have a full void soundsystem. As anyone who appreciates music will know these speakers pump out some of the best sound you will find in a nightclub. World HQ has gone overboard and the amount of speakers could easily power a venue three times the size. The raised DJ booth on the top floor gives you a festival feeling in a small venue. As someone use to London - Drink prices seemed cheap but I can’t really tell compared to the local area. Staff were really friendly too. (Photos taken before public were in)

Gay night club
Powerhouse is a renowned nightclub in Newcastle, offering a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for club-goers. With sleek interiors, the venue spans across four floors and features three club rooms to explore. Originally established as a gay club in the 1980s, Powerhouse has evolved into an all-welcoming space that prioritizes music and an attitude-free clubbing experience. The establishment operates five days a week until 4am, extending its hours to 5am on Saturdays.
Extremely pricey entry for a venue without any charm or unique appeal. It didn't appear to be a gay or queer club at all. Music wasn't to my taste, unappealing mixes of cheesy hits and chart toppers. Was approached by multiple men and didn't feel especially safe there as a lone woman when I was separated from my friends. Had hoped for a night out in queer company but ended up counting the minutes until my friends were finally be ready to leave. Not for me - I won't be making a second visit.
Riva O — Google review
Absolute trash. Man taking money is so rude. Toilets are trashed, the place has opened and there is puke everywhere, no toilet doors that lock, no toilet roll?? Chairs falling apart, smoke that basically gasses you. They don't offer refunds at the door because "these are generic complaints". Okay so these are complaints you hear all the time?? £15 entry save your money babes and go to Rusty's or Flares.
Courtney T — Google review
Described as a gay bar on google but let’s be clear - it USED to be a gay nightclub but currently lets anyone in and is absolutely NOT a welcoming LGBTQ+ safe space anymore and hasn’t been for years. Read the other reviews. Powerhouse don’t even promote themselves as a gay venue anymore on socials. It’s open later than other venues so gets full of very rowdy aggressive drunks and chavs and I’ve had homophobic comments from the bouncers before. The bouncers also aren’t there for safety/wellbeing - some are just looking for an excuse to get “rough” with punters using their armband as a “legitimate” excuse.
Chris F — Google review
Client who had personal issue got bouncers he knows to kick someone out. Bouncer was aggressive and assaulted me for no stated reason.
Jordan D — Google review
My friends were charged £10 for entry and I was charged £ twenty, I was only in here for 30 minutes!!!! First time ever coming to this establishment and it will probably be the last, rude communication from the Facebook page, just reading your messages one after the other without replying! tried to be nice when I was told that the reason I was charged was because friends bought a wristbands I hadn’t, but then I asked well how do you buy the wristbands for next time because no one even mentioned it!? no response.. just pure daylight robbery, I am have autism and I struggled getting back home was trying to save my last tenner to go halfers in a taxi, as for the overall experience I was told this was a gay club? Why are there straight men snd straight couples eveywhere? Not as it was described to me.
Jordan N — Google review
The bouncers are absolutely vile, shoving and pushing drunken teenage girls around outside because they “can” !! pushing them so hard they fall down and they smirk at you when ur on the floor in a vulnerable state. No offer of help, to ring a taxi, to find friends, NO CONCERN FOR PEOPLES AND PUBLIC SAFETY AT ALL.
Elise J — Google review
£20 entry! Don’t bother, terrible service, terrible music. It’s like it’s forgotten its roots from a gay bar. Even London doesn’t charge that much just for entry, diabolical. Avoid at all costs. Heard many great things from this place to just be left disappointed and broke. Don’t bother. Go to rustys. Plenty of other good places in Newcastle.

The Broad Chare is a renovated pub in Newcastle upon Tyne, featuring an oak bar, painted brick walls, and stripped wood floors. Under the ownership of former pro-golfer James Close, it has been transformed into a renowned restaurant with rooms. The establishment offers a 15-course menu that includes locally sourced ingredients and dishes like Lindisfarne oyster poached at 62 degrees and pork tacos. The pub seamlessly blends traditional British pub ambiance with innovative culinary experiences.
Hear me out. Get yourself the Halibut and a cherry Liefmans belgian beer and you'll have a great time. The beer was more toward a sparkling wine than a beer and it paired amazingly with the fish which was cooked to perfection. We also had the rump steak burger which was good value for money and again cooked perfectly but nothing amazing. Deserts were also good but not needed. For atmosphere and staff it's an easy5/5.

Little bit of a gushy review but I can hands down say this is my absolute favourite place to eat in town! My partner and I have been frequently in the past few years and have never been served anything less than perfection! Service is absolutely outstanding with knowledgeable and attentive staff and the food……superlative! Fish dishes; fresh, well balanced and delicious and oh my word the lamb sharing main 🤤 just make sure you don’t eat for 24 hours beforehand if you want to finish it (although the staff are very happy to wrap up for you too). All in all, outstanding! Can’t wait for my next outing to The Broad Chare 😊

Absolute best Sunday roast I've had since moving up here a year ago. We ordered the veggie roast which came with bubble and squeak; pork belly and the beef. Everything was flavoured beautifully and the roast potatoes were incredible. Definitely coming back
Becka I — Google review
Pros: Good selection of beers, scotch egg, haggis on toast is an interesting take. Cons: Too pricey for what they offer. Fish cake was too dry, only mediocre at best. "Grilled calf liver" wasn't grilled, but pan fried (though it was delicious, nevertheless). Green leaves in the salad weren't properly washed, you could see the dirt on some of them. Attention to detail was lacking, overall ("luxury soap" bottle in the toilet was refilled with some cheap washing liquid that you can hardly rinse off, etc.). Michelin list brought us here, but I regretted the visit. I hope this was a one off incident, and they are doing better generally.

Historical landmark
Newcastle Castle, a stone fortress and former prison, was built between 1168 and 1178. Situated on the site of a Roman fortress, it offers stunning views over the city and river. The castle includes the Castle Keep and the Black Gate, both over 800 years old. Throughout its history, it has served as a fort, prison, Sheriffs office, and air raid shelter.
The history of this place is very interesting, and presented very well. Especially the pictures of how the area used to look like so many years ago. The staff is friendly too. When you buy a ticket, it's valid for one year, and you get access to both the Castle Keep and the Black Gate (with a small shop). The view of Newcastle on top of the Castle Keep is amazing. I stayed here for half an hour overlooking the city, including the trains.

Absolutely loved visiting Newcastle Castle! I was genuinely impressed by the stunning architecture and how well this historic site has been preserved. Every stone seems to tell a story, and the views from the top are simply breathtaking — a perfect blend of history and scenery. Walking through the narrow passages and ancient chambers truly felt like stepping back in time. A must-visit for anyone interested in medieval history or simply looking to explore one of Newcastle’s architectural gems.

There is a lot of climbing so a reasonable level of fitness is needed, but there are areas to rest and look at historical aspects of the Castle. It wasn't too crowded and the information signs and interactive elements are very good. It's reasonably priced for entry and all in all a great experience.

I enjoyed my visit. It was so close to my hotel and I could enjoy my time without the castle being too busy. The only thing was that it was so windy so I couldn't enjoy the views at the top of the castle! Other than that I was grateful for this experience.. some suggestions -there needs to be guides around and more signs out for visitors.

The Castle in Newcastle is well worth a visit. It is the remnants of an impressive fort, but sadly much damaged by the construction of the railway passing right through the castle compound. The remains are in two separate section, each with its own entrance. The Castle Keep is the most impressive and allows access to its roof with great views over the city.

Visited this castle on the last day of my holiday, and spent an enjoyable couple of hours here. A short but steep walk from the quayside, the castle consists of two main buildings, separated by a wooden bridge, the foundations of an earlier Roman fort, and railway arches. You have to visit the Black Gate first, because it's where you buy your tickets, in a small gift shop at the top of a flight of stone steps (there's a lift if you can't manage stairs). Adult admission is £12.50, it's £8.20 for a child, £11.25 concession. I bought an interesting little guidebook for £4.95, and there are also audio guides. The girl at the ticket desk was really helpful, telling me all about what there was to see and how to get to it. Useful to know that the only toilets in the castle are here too! The Black Gate, built around 1250, was the main gateway to the medieval castle. There's an upstairs exhibition in a former guardroom with artefacts, crafts, and lots of information about Newcastle's long and eventful history, but there's not a lot else to see. Far more interesting for me was the 12th century keep. The well-preserved rooms, on three floors reached by spiral staircases, include a great hall with medieval decorations and a large stone fireplace, a cellar, a Norman chapel, prisoners' cells, medieval toilets and a small room with a well. There are interesting passages and recesses to discover, but also a lot of steps not advisable for anyone with mobility issues to attempt. Plenty of fascinating info about the castle's history and royal connections, a few artefacts, and fun activities that included drawings for children to colour in and medieval board games, and friendly staff around to show me how to play them! But the highlight for me was the spectacular view from the roof! Accessed through an iron door at the top of a spiral staircase, it's a fantastic 360 degree panorama of Newcastle and all its best landmarks, from the Cathedral and Grey's Monument to the Tyne bridges, as well as the trains that were constantly passing below. Wonderful photo opportunities! All in all, a great way to spend the afternoon. Well worth a visit!

We booked with Newcastle Castle for an event and it was truly amazing. The staff were really organised and attentive in the lead up to the event and at the event itself. It was a really hot day and the team worked extremely hard carrying heavy things like tables etc into the hall and up many flights of stairs to set-up and pack down. The event went late into the evening so we really appreciate the staff working the event until that time and all the effort they put in to make the event super memorable. The castle itself is amazing, views from the rooftop are stunning, it's a beautiful venue! We had the best time ever and created memories we'll treasure forever ❤️

Well worth going just for the views. Amazing. You could see all the city and great place for pictures as well. Also good information in places like the great hall on the history of the castle.

Sights & Landmarks
The Tyne Bridge is an iconic landmark in Newcastle, England, known for its open-work arch that creates a striking elliptical appearance when viewed from a distance. Spanning the River Tyne, this 7,000-ton bridge took over three years to complete and stands at 59 meters high and 389 meters long. It connects the city center with Gateshead and offers stunning views of the river and city skyline. The bridge is a popular spot for both pedestrians and drivers seeking picturesque photo opportunities.
There she is, the Tyne Bridge, watching down over all of us. As imposing as it is, it's also very comforting and I always look forward to seeing this whenever I am back home in my native North East.

There's always a holiday atmosphere on Newcastle Quayside. Iconic views, Baltic gallery, Millennium Bridge, plenty of pubs and restaurants. A lovely place for an evening stroll. The open air market on a Sunday is great for food, crafts, art and ice cream. In summer there's often special events like the beach resort or a tall ship, and the Baltic always has something new on display for a winter's day.

Totally iconic, I love this bridge. Work has just started on a restoration which seems long overdue. Rust, rot, flaked paint. Poor really, but at least help is on the way for this UK landmark.

The Tyne Bridge is undeniably an iconic symbol connecting Newcastle and Gateshead, embodying the spirit and resilience of the region. When it opened it was the largest single-span bridge globally, and it remains a striking piece of engineering to this day. Walking across the bridge offers breathtaking views of the River Tyne and the surrounding cityscape. At sunset, the scenery is especially beautiful, casting warm hues across the skyline—a perfect backdrop for photos.

Great engineering at its best. Great views from here overlooking the Swing Bridge and High Level Bridge as well as a great view of parts of the city. Bridge can be noisy as used by all types of vehicles. Wide pavements however if you have children with you, they must not be out of your sight due to the constant vehicular traffic.

Absolutely show end of the season. Enjoyed by everyone the atmosphere was Thanks to the access card for health and disabilities the theatre royal are very helpful if you ring them they will help you book and sort the tickets to prevent any worry or stress and explain the seating to you. Lift up to the amphitheatre. Good view it's so good you don't think about the height. Thank you it was enjoyed by me and my friend we laughed from start to finish. Can't wait for next year's Aladdin.

I really enjoyed the Royal Theatre. Always present great shows, the staff is very helpful and polite - even if the queue at the bar is long the staff is efficient in serving everyone quickly. I ordered a glass of Prosecco, and it was a good quality one . The theatre is gorgeous with its red velvets and beautiful Edwardian style ornaments - sits are comfortable, and it is a pleasure to go.

Beautiful theatre rich in history. Gallery seating designed perfectly that you can see the stage perfect. More snack options would be my only gripe but a fair selection none the less. Great time

Beautiful theatre both inside and outside. It's not huge but seats are very steep if you don't like heights. We were in the upper circle and view was good. I don't think there are many seats without a decent view. We watched Miss Saigon. Stunning show. Staff are lovely. Big queue for toilets during interval but I suppose that is expected. I have been several times and I always enjoy the venue. It is in a lovely part of Newcastle with stunning buildings, eateries and bars galore. We parked at Dean street car park and it's a very easy walk of about 5 mins. Recommend.

Went to see the little mermaid panto and what a superb production. Excellent value as I was sat in the cheap seats but had ample leg room and a little side table although only a partial view as the safety rail was obstructing my view. All involved were so great and the place was rammed with kids who all seemed to be enjoying it and getting involved. Great time

Chaophraya is a South-East Asian restaurant located in the heart of Newcastle, offering stunning views of Greys Monument and the city. The restaurant features a fully covered roof terrace with panoramic city views, creating a luxurious dining experience. The menu includes fusion cuisine and traditional Thai dishes such as delectable Thai tacos and classic Thai green curry made from coconut, chilli, and lemongrass.
Was in Newcastle for work and came across this place by chance. Best meal I have had in ages. The restaurant is centrally located, love the decor and love the vibe. The staff were fabulous. Friendly, attentive, accommodating and really helpful with the menu and checking on allergens and likes/dislikes. The food was absolutely delicious. Full of flavour, spice level based on your preference and very generous portions. I am definitely coming back next time I’m here.

I have no words to describe how grateful I am for the service food atmosphere and kindness we have received from this establishment. We held our wedding reception here 2 days in a row and it couldn’t have gone better. The managers, chefs and most importantly waiting staff have gone absolutely above and beyond to make this day so special to us. The food couldn’t have been better and with some experience in Thai food I can say this is the best you will ever get. From the bottom of my heart thank you so much to the entire team at Chaopraya Newcastle ❤️

We booked this for a family birthday lunch. I wasn't particularly looking forward to it as I tend not to like to vibe in shopping centre restaurants. This was an exception as you feel totally removed from the shops. The food and service we lovely and when I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, they added some lovely touches. I will definitely be back.

This might be my new favourite restaurant. I have somehow just never eaten here and I was seriously missing out. The staff are excellent. The place is clean and taken care of. Visited Chaopraya for an after work meal out for a leaving do and birthday celebration. I’ve been here a couple of time and never fails to satisfy both my heart and tummy with its delightful food. I always try a new dish every time and today I tried the Prawn Tom Kha with Jasmine Rice and it was 🤤🤤. The double celebrants got a nice little cake with greetings after our mains and a card which was really nice💕 Looking forward for my next meal here😊

Our first visit to Chaophraya was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The members of staff were lovely, there were only 2 waiting all of the tables, and despite it being very busy, there were no delays or issues. Brittany welcomed us and and after a very short wait in the bar area, we were taken to our table. We sat in the window overlooking the comings and goings of the street below. As it grew dark, the dome of the Botanist was lit up making it a pretty view. We ordered our drinks and Miguel introduced himself to us as our waiter for the evening. We decided to order a set menu so we could try a few different things. We went for the Yom set menu and everything was absolutely delicious and you got plenty of each dish to share and a pudding each to finish. We had a few chats with Miguel and Brittany over the course of our evening, they were so friendly and combined with the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant and the delicious food, they made anniversary evening perfect. We can't wait to go back 😊

Utilita Arena Newcastle, formerly known as the Metro Radio Arena, is a premier entertainment venue in Newcastle. In addition to music concerts, the arena also hosts events like WWE wrestling and Disney on Ice. Situated near the Gay Village or Pink Triangle and well-connected by public transport, it offers a convenient location for visitors.
We visited for the first time to see Busted vs McFly. Venue was east to find, plenty of staff available. We got through security nice and quickly. Got through the merch quickly as well and found our seats nice and easily. Once settled we got some drinks at the bar, again nice and nice and quickly done. I liked how there were toilets inside where the stage was, I liked how small it was as well, it didn’t seem too big and where we were sat it wasn’t overly crowded either. I did appreciate it when security opened doors that lead outside so we got some nice cool air. Overall I would come here again for a concert as it was a really decent venue

Me & my wife went to see WWE live at the arenas on August 24th 2025. We have been to the arena before, but this time we had different seats, which were way better than the previous time. Parking; For the actual arena itself, there is a public street around five minutes walk away which is free parking if you can get a space. If you can’t, the arena does offer parking and so does a car wash nearby which we paid £10. The arena: They charge £9.50 for a pint, which is absolutely insane and not worth the money. The queues for the merchandise stand is also absolutely ridiculous and no order whatsoever which you have people pushing in wherever they can with no one managing this at all. The event itself was pretty good and the seating in the arena overall isn’t bad as you can get a pretty good view from anywhere you sit. The photos provided are from seats in Block 102, Row K, Seats: 68 & 69

Great arena, and lots of accessible areas. Only issues were: slightly over zealous security staff, huge scrum in the entrance and ridiculously high soft drink prices. Enormous queues too, which could have been improved by having separate, signposted soft drinks areas. Also, there was a water fountain but you had to queue to get a plastic glass from the bar (no refillable water bottles allowed). Nonetheless great seating, fab views, and a brilliant show by Peter Kay.

Fantastic venue, saw Riverdance at weekend Easy entry, easy exit, great sound, however only issue was lack of info as to how to access area that was apparently closed off No info despite guard being on duty as we arrived at the stairs, had to ask after waiting 20 minutes to be told stairs were blocked off but we could enter in via main arena then walk up to our seats!! A simply sign could have prevented confusion Other than that, perfect

One of the smaller arenas I've been too but that makes it a better experience as it's not as busy. Staff were friendly and helpful. No issues entering or leaving. Only issue really is the cost of drinks. 2 oasis £9.20 😂

Newcastle Cathedral is a medieval structure featuring a lantern spire and the Baron Collingwood memorial. It stands as a powerful representation of dark, looming architecture in the city's tradition. The cathedral holds over 900 years of Newcastle's history within its stones and monuments, being the only cathedral in the UK dedicated to St Nicholas. Its iconic Lantern Tower has served as a guiding light for ships on the River Tyne.
I popped into Newcastle Cathedral the other day while wandering around the city center, and it was surprisingly cool. I mean, I'm not usually one for cathedrals, but this one had something about it... First off, it's free to get in, which is always a bonus. They just have a collection box if you want to donate. It's a beautiful building, really impressive inside. The stained glass is gorgeous, and some really interesting sculptures and art. There's a new churchyard trail and landscaped terrace, providing a sanctuary to unwind. I was just wandering around, snapping photos, and soaking it all in. I overheard a tour guide who was excellent and made the history of the cathedral extremely interesting. You can easily spend an hour or two just wandering around, checking everything out. They have a shop and a café. It's a welcoming space, with friendly staff and volunteers. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in Newcastle and want to see a bit of history and beautiful architecture. Plus, they have concerts and events sometimes, so check their website.

Attended an 80's concert by candlelight. Lovely atmosphere. The staff on the door and the bar/cafe friendly - cakes on offer looked amazing but didnt sample - one for another visit! Lots of space to move out of people's way and dance. Good venue but a little chilly being a cathedral so dancing warms you up.
Angie G — Google review
A nice Cathedral but I dislike new modern furniture being introduced where they clearly don’t fit and here is a good example, nothing appears in keeping. What I liked though was seeing how some homeless people were able to find a seat and rest here from the rain, get warmth and comfort. It’s what a religious building should be doing and looking to reach out.

Lovely and very beautiful free to enter cathedral. Was greeted by kind staff who made sure to tell me where things were and that I could ask questions if I wished. Lots of gorgeous stained glass windows, there are toilets and a cafe as a well as a small gift shop.

Been spoilt, the pews are gone, the laid up regimental colours hidden away on some dingy corner. Place of worship now more often a concert venue full of drunks. No wonder the C of E is becoming a joke.

First time in the Cathedral for a music event. It is an amazing building and the acoustics were very good. Not the real Fleetwood Mac but they were a decent band. Very very artsy place. Definitely a place to visit to get your creative juices flowing! Art pieces all came with a pretty crazy price tag so for the rich artsy peeps why spend £500 on a balenciaga when you can get an exotic looking vase! We visited while we were staying in Newcastle for a few days. We often visit art galleries & I think many are getting better at being inclusive open to all rather than exclusive. This one is fantastic! The building and interior is inviting and as soon as we walked in we were welcomed and a member of the team told us about the gallery as we'd never been before. The artwork was accessible both in terms of viewing and purchasing with the option to pay with installments. We bought a gorgeous sculpture. It was a great experience. Love popping in for something to eat before q concert.. the service is always quick. Prices are good and they have a great meal deal where you can go up to a large. Zapatista has been a favourite of mine for the last 10 years but they've pushed prices up (as all businesses have) at the same time they've cut portion sizes significantly. Tiny tacos today for £9. Disappointed, I complained as it's usually better quality and was told that was the usual portion. Won't be coming back.

Positives; *very tasty burrito *good and helpful staff *lots of menu options *nicely decorated restaurant and Mexican themed music. Negatives; *was a bit messy especially around the burrito making area * although not seeming that busy service was relaxed rather than prompt * if you don’t like mariachi music you might want to bring your ear plugs

Disappointed as this was a firm fave of ours but burritos were freezing cold (understand as burritos aren't supposed to be piping hot, but shouldn't be that cold either) and staff were not helpful and seemed quite miserable. Price seemed to have shot up (as all business have) but it seems the quality, and portion sizes has gone down. Me and my friend got the exact same burrito with the same add ons, however mine was more expensive than hers. Both staff members charging different prices. My other friend had to keep asking what was included in the price and what wasn't, as she was unhelpful and gave no indication. Really disappointed and wont be back.

Came today for our first time after seeing good things about it on social media and after reading the good reviews on Google. My daughter is a big reader so I thought this place would be brilliant for her but we left feeling fairly disappointed. We were only able to visit 2 of the rooms as the rest were either closed or had paid-for activities running in them which we had no idea about. We saw the Tiger exhibit and the Famous Five one. Apart from that, we couldn't see anything else and were really gutted not to be able to see the Mog exhibit. Glad it was free, I would've been really annoyed if I had to pay an entry fee. There could be a lot more available to see, especially during the summer holidays

I went here with a friend and a 12 month and 14 month old. Gallery: lovely nostalgic sketches for adults. Not much to do for babies-2 year olds. Dress up, colouring in, role play for older kids. Themed story areas. My little one liked the lit up arch on the 4th floor the most- would be nice to introduce a young ones story themed sensory area maybe? We turned up and the story time event was fully booked along with the craft sessions. Maybe should have some space for walk-ins? The gallery spaces desperately needed the floors cleaning and dusting. Cafe: not suitable for nut allergies. It sells peanut Graze products. There were peanuts all over the table and it was only wiped clean. You’d think they wouldn’t sell nuts in a children’s centre where millions of kids have nut allergies? Sold sandwiches and cake. Friend said cake was very good. FYI about £4 for a hot chocolate. The high chair straps were broken. Toilets: 1 baby change in women’s, 1 in men. We queued. Accessibility: due to the nature of the building there is only one lift and we had to wait quite a while for it on each floor. There are also a lot of doors which is hard with a pram. It’s brilliant to promote reading for children and we’re lucky to have this venue in the north east. But I think it would be nicer with an older child if you could get booked onto an event, sit and read stories, colour in, role play etc. Otherwise there’s not much to do for a 0-2 year old.

What a gem! From a fantastic cafe (with such friendly staff), to rooms of books, dressing up clothes, creative writing possibilities - great for bringing children of all ages.

Really enjoyed the Judith kerr exhibitions. Having seen the tiger one in York a few years ago, I loved the new mog one. Excellent bookshop too.
Charlotte W — Google review
I adore this children's literature-themed place very much. The first floor is the bookshop and a big cafe. The second to fourth floors are galleries for presenting different authors’ artworks. It was very nice to see how many cute hand drawings and decor they demonstrated. I like how they designed some places for kids to hide and play. Also, they have giant toys displayed on two floors which are based on the characters from children’s books. It is such an amazing combo of a bookshop and galleries to go to, especially for kids with their families.

Absolutely lovely place if you and your family love books. Staff are amazing 👏

Amazing centre for children's literature, stories and informative exhibitions. Cafe, toilets, baby change and bookshop on site. Cafe and bookshop free admission. Very well presented and ideal due families and younger children. Full of attractive, well designed themed exhibitions on children's literature which regularly change. Would recommend, ideal for 2 - 11 year olds.

Event venue
Nestled on Westgate Road, the Tyne Theatre & Opera House is a stunning Victorian gem that has been captivating audiences for 150 years. This historic venue not only showcases an array of music, comedy, and family shows but also boasts a charming bistro bar for pre-show refreshments. The Grade II-listed building features an opulent auditorium and is home to what many believe to be the UK's sole operational Victorian wooden stage machinery and trap door system.
Visited the Tyne Theatre and Opera house back in January to watch the London Symphonic Rock Orchestra. As we weren't from the area, we had no idea what to expect other than seeing photos online. The theatre is a beautiful traditional theatre with stunning architecture that I could look at all day. We had front row seats that had plenty of leg room which, given my outfit, was greatly needed!! I normally struggle with seats in old theatres being very narrow and digging into my hips but I didn't have any problems and comfortably jammed along to LSRO all night. Biggest shout out is to the staff who were there that night. Having eloped that day we were still in our wedding outfits which made certain things (like using the toilet on your own) difficult. We spoke to the manager for the evening's event, whose name I wish I could remember, and she helped us find the facilities and our seats before surprising us with some drinks and a programme on the house. She made us feel so welcome and was a huge factor in our rating above. I'd recommend coming here to watch gigs and shows, even if you're not big on architecture, the staff and atmosphere alone will have you coming back again and again!

Fabulous five star tour yesterday at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House. Wonderful to learn about one of our iconic buildings and its rocky history up to today. Work continues hence covers on the seats. Many thanks to the guides and team for looking after us. If you want to know more about the theatre in our great city-do the tour 🙏

Fantastic behind the scenes tour of this Grade 1 listed theatre. Restored to Victorian spec, the wooden scenery mechanism is the only one in the country which is still working.

A big thank you to James, Michael and Alan for taking the Newcastle City Guides on a theatre tour today. Very interesting and informative, especially the history and understatement workings.
Christine H — Google review
The guided tours are excellent. The volunteer guides are friendly and knowledgable and you get to see the backstage areas and dressing rooms in addition to the auditorium. The intricate Victorian machinery beneath the stage to operate the trapdoors is especially interesting. And you get a free coffee or tea afterwards.

Had a fantastic tour of the theatre, the guides were very knowledgeable. Lots to see that you don't normally get access to. Amazing to see how things work behind the scenes. You do need to book in advance, but definitely recommend it.

Bicycle repair shop
Located in Newcastle, The Cycle Hub is a modern bicycle shop offering repair and hiring services. It also features an on-site cafe serving great coffee and snacks. Situated along the River Tyne frontage, it's a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The bright and colorful decor of the cafe adds to its appeal, making it a perfect place to grab a bite or drink after biking or walking your dog.
A lovely place to have a cuppa and some cake! There’s a great car park right next door, and it’s perfect for stopping off if you’re on a walk along the Quayside.

We visited on a sunny March weekend and enjoyed the outdoor seating on the riverside patio, which has a view of some of Newcastle's iconic bridges. There's also plenty of seating inside. One of our party had a Biscoff milkshake which they said was very good, as was the Malteser cake and what I think was called the Granola cake. The young people running the cafe were working hard. There are electric bike charging stations here, as well as a station to sort out problems with bikes. Just one thing was an issue, which was the two toilets on offer as unisex toilets. I get why it's more efficient to do this, but the man before me hadn't been capable of either lifting up the seat, concentrating on where he was pointing, or clearing up behind himself. Apart from this, we had a nice visit to this cafe.

Cycle Hub, Newcastle I visited Cycle Hub today for a breakfast brunch and a relaxing coffee. With the lovely weather, it was the perfect time to try it, especially since they have a fantastic outdoor seating area right next to the Tyne River. The interior features modern chipboard with a chic finish, offering a contemporary yet inviting feel. The selection includes cakes, J-potatoes, and both warm and cold sandwiches. I had the bacon, brie, and cranberry sandwich along with a caramel latte, which came to £10.52. Considering the generous portion size of the sandwich, served in a soft, long roll, I thought this was very reasonable. The coffee was exceptional—creamy, smooth, and sweet, with beautiful latte art. My only feedback would be that the sandwich could’ve been a bit warmer as it felt the bacon was prepared and placed in the sandwich after but still a enjoyable sandwich. The staff were incredibly friendly, both inside and out. We moved inside due to the weather, and Lynn was very welcoming, even offering a free sausage for our dog and giving her a warm greeting. This kind of hospitality goes a long way for dog owners. The gentleman who served me, though I didn’t catch his name, was also very friendly and made sure I didn’t feel rushed or pushed out. Overall, it’s a great stop if you’re walking along the river in Newcastle, especially if you're near Ouseburn, as it's only about 15 minutes from the start of the path. Highly recommended, and I’ll definitely be back again. They also host a hub for cyclists with a repair centre, though I haven’t used this service, so I can’t comment on it. There are toilets available, and parking is pay-and-display, managed by the local council

My husband(!) and I had our wedding lunch here 31st October 2024. What a delightful time we had! As we were catering for 30 people, we used outside caterers (can recommend Community Catering) and The Hub made sure there was enough space for them to set out food lovely. The bar selection was great for our needs and they even ensured there was a small cocktail menu available at our request (pina coladas are delicious!). Jill and Heather took care of our every need when arranging the event (and during) and I think were even more excited than me! They made the space absolutely beautiful for us. Many of our guests had not been before and were very impressed and will certainly be back again soon as customers. The other staff in attendance on the day were great too, happy, friendly and polite. It is a fabulous little hidden gem of a location which is perfect for a walk (or cycle!) along the Quayside or the Ouseburn, with beautiful views along the river Tyne with backdrop of the bridges. Although we were unable to use their food at our event, we have eaten here before and it has always been delicious. It is worth noting too that they use as many local suppliers and small business as possible which in my view is really worth celebrating. Keep an eye on their drinks menu as it changes with the season which is a lovely little touch too. On a cold day, you can still sit outside to enjoy the view too as they even have some blankets that you can borrow to keep the chill off. Thanks again, from the new Mr and Mrs Burnett.

Always a good place to stop whilst out cycling, good coffee/ food/cakes at reasonable prices and tons of outside seating with great views on a sunny day. The only complaint is perhaps it's a tiny bit understaffed as it can take a while to get your food and the staff look run off their feet having to bring your food outside. Extremely handy bike mechanic shop inside for maintenance/ repairs whilst you're there too if you have any bike issues whilst out.

Stopped here for a quick snack before cycling to Tynemouth and loved it! The scones were absolutely delicious, and the café has a lovely, stylish vibe. The outdoor seating right on the quayside is perfect for soaking up the views. The ice cream counter looked amazing too, some really unique and tempting flavours. Will definitely be back!

Great riverside cafe and cycle shop on the banks of the Tyne and beside a scenic cycle route. Very helpful cycle guy, who checked our defective brakes.

Cafe is nice, but food is really simple and choice is very limited. Menu offers sandwiches and some cakes. Coffee is not from specialty roasters. I would not recommend to eat here, but it is nice to come and seat next to the river and maybe enjoy ice cream or so.

By The River Brew Co. is a unique establishment located beneath a bridge, featuring repurposed shipping containers that house a hip brewpub, seasonal eatery, and bike shop. It's renowned as the best beer garden in the city with stunning riverside views of all the bridges and an impressive selection of craft beers. Visitors can enjoy street food vendors, live music, and DJs while taking in the vibrant Quayside atmosphere.
Very nice place on the water, between the bridges. Relaxt atmos. The weather was nice, so sitting outside was great. Nice beers on tap outside, not much choice and none local. There is a food court where you can order with a QR code, and the food will be brought to your table. We had Indian, Greek food and a Meatstack burger. All very good!

Lovely spot under the Tyne bridge for coffee and brunch, I had the avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and it was lovely, a nice spice to it, great crunch bread, the coffee and chilled atmosphere was fabulous too, friendly helpful staff too, great spot and also worth the scenic walk across the Tyne to get to

Turned up at 8:15pm Saturday night on a bank holiday weekend and told they'd just called last orders. A star for the friendly doorstaff who let us go in. We figured we'd get a quick half and move on. The options were very mainstream (they had Guinness and Kopperburg for example). Looks like it could be nice, but my opinion was it wasn't really what it was advertising in beers or opening times
Paul M — Google review
Popped in here for a pre dinner drink. Great location right on the river. Only the outside bar was operating. Because it's outside the drinks are served in plastic cups. Found it more expensive than the pubs, 20 pounds for 2 pints of beer and a gin and tonic.
Karen E — Google review
Fab location with great selection of food outlets. We tried a couple and would highly recommend Dabbawal Indian street food! Point to improve: It’s on the expensive side (£7 a pint), the beer selection is small considering its a tap location and the app confusing. Didn’t take away from awesome location and fab food/drink atmosphere would defo recommend 😄

By far one of the best place to eat and drink in Newcastle & Gateshead. The location is perfect, the views are outstanding. Food from the restaurant, Träkol, is amazing and one of the most unique dining experiences in the area. There's also the HWKRMRKT if you just want to sample an exceptional showcase of the region's street food vendors.

Located in Gateshead, the Shipley Art Gallery is a Grade 2 listed Edwardian building that houses an impressive collection of Dutch, Flemish, and Victorian art alongside contemporary British craft and design items. The gallery was founded thanks to the generous bequest of Joseph Shipley, a prominent art collector and solicitor from Gateshead. Visitors can look forward to exploring its diverse range of artworks and exhibitions. Additionally, the gallery hosts events such as the Family Art Festival during Easter holidays.
This lovely Art Gallery in Gateshead is a great place to visit as, not only does it house a lot of very interesting paintings, but it also has a significant collection of glass and ceramic ware in addition to the Saltwell Museum collection. My personal preference is for the glasswork and ceramics but I also loved the silver. Back in the Saltwell room there was a continuous stream of archive footage of the area including images from a VE Day long gone. The lady on Reception was very friendly and helpful; I would certainly like to visit again when I am back in the area.
Anne S — Google review
As a local north east museum, it is not bad. I like their portrait art or just any with humen in it, not many nature art capture my eyes, expect the Flemish parrot arts. Their collection of eggs and antlers from the left room are way more interesting. I think it was in the left or right room, there were some mini tile collections are quite impressive. They also sale some V& A products which is surprising. The only thing I don’t like is some tables and chairs that’s the in main halls and in the right room. I think when they don’t have event, they can put it away, so people have more space to walk around. However, it appears they have very few staff so maybe that’s why they just left. Overall, it’s a nice place to spend an hour at. Wonder how their event is, but you have to contact them directly ask for the details of events.

A Hidden Gem for a Woodland Walk in the City We visited in May and had a wonderful time! The paths were dry and easy to walk on , no wellies needed. We parked at Jesmond Dene House and enjoyed a lovely breakfast before heading out. The dene is literally just behind the hotel, making it super convenient. The walk itself is peaceful and scenic, with a few charming waterfalls along the way that really add to the atmosphere. A perfect little escape in the heart of the city such a lovely treat for a day out!

Lovely park, an oasis in Newcastle with the river Ouseburn running through it. There is a little zoo with goats, peacocks, chooks and pigs. We didn't go in as we have 2 dogs but ideal for families etc. The park is beautifully shaded and there are enough entry points for dogs to get into the river for a splash/paddle. The waterfall and mill are lovely to see. We need to go back to visit parts we missed as I fell and hurt my leg and ankle on some uneven paving. My fault for not paying enough attention but there are a lot of uneven places throughout the park which would be difficult for those with limited mobility.

Jesmond Dene in Newcastle is a beautiful and peaceful green space just minutes from the city centre. With its winding woodland paths, river, waterfalls, and wildlife, it feels like a quiet escape from urban life. It’s perfect for walking, relaxing, or enjoying nature, and the atmosphere is especially calm compared to the busy streets nearby. Some parts can get crowded on weekends, but overall it’s one of the most charming and refreshing spots in the city. Felt overjoyed when i was there

Lovely place, fresh air, clean areas, the waterfall is gorgeous, ice cream van in the area, long paths, dogs loves it too 😀 😊

Jesmond Dene is a beautiful spot if you love nature and fresh air. Walking through the park feels like escaping the city, with plenty of trees, greenery, and the peaceful river running through it. I really enjoyed the forest-like paths — it’s perfect for anyone who enjoys being surrounded by nature. That said, some parts of the park could use a bit of maintenance. The paths were quite dirty, and some of the wooden barriers along the river looked old and could be unsafe, so I hope they’re updated soon. Even with these small issues, I had a very enjoyable visit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing walk or a nature escape in Newcastle.”

Live music bar
Nestled in the picturesque streets of Newcastle upon Tyne, The Cumberland Arms is a charming pub with a rich history dating back to the 1860s. Inside, visitors are greeted by an eclectic mix of furniture that exudes a playful and whimsical vibe. The lively atmosphere is filled with friendly banter and laughter, creating an intoxicating blend of mirth and merriment. The pub also boasts a beer garden perfect for enjoying drinks with friends or family.
A super traditional pub a short(ish) walk from the City Centre. Had a gay old time as The Flintstones might say. Super real ale bar. Alic and Booth on their first ever visit. Seems to be trapped between busy roads but people still find it. Large front beer terrace on a less than sunny August evening. Good pint of Stout from local brewery Flying Gang.

Decent little pub and great for sitting in the sun with a drink. The venue itself is relatively small and the majority of the seating is outside...there was spill over onto the lawn on one side. Punters following the sun. I would defo go back.

Wednesday 24th September 2025 This pub is deceptive looking from the outside looks 19oos and inside it is a lot older feel to it It has a unspoilt feeling It has a great frontage outdoor drinking area. The landlord is a gentleman that truly understands real ales. There's 5 spectacular real ales on from locally and in some cases obscure breweries When in Newcastle this pub for real ale drinkers is a must to drink in Go in

We went with our Morris ‘side’ for a get together with many of the other Morris Dance sides in the region . A good night was had by all those dancing and spectating . Food is limited to bar snacks but excellent range of beers and ciders . We were all with friends and enjoying dancing together on a summer’s evening . So atmosphere was great …. Even the ‘civilians’ enjoyed themselves

Can't believe first visit to this pub, reason being where it is located, a bit off track from other pubs. In saying that, it's only a 10 minute walk from Byker metro station. Good old fashioned boozer, with an excellent atmosphere in a good location in Ouseburn. Reasonable selection of drinks and decent prices. When back in Newcastle again, will attempt to walk to Ouseburn and visit again.
