The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, established in 2002, is a prominent gallery in northern England housed in a renovated flour mill. With four gallery spaces and no permanent collection, it showcases rotating exhibitions by artists from around the world. Notable past exhibitions have featured works by renowned artists such as Daniel Buren and Jesper Just. Situated in Gateshead Quays, the center contributes to the area's cultural regeneration alongside The Glasshouse International Centre for Music.
We had our wedding breakfast and reception at the Baltic and would highly recommend it! The venue itself was stunning; both the outside of it and also the views from within. We had our wedding breakfast on the top floor in restaurant SIX with amazing views over the Tyne and Gateshead. The food was great and we received lots of compliments from our guests for it. We had the evening reception in the Riverside room, with an outdoor terrace overlooking the Tyne. The sun was shining and the vibes on the terrace were perfect! The staff at the Baltic were great. The wedding planners helped us plan out every detail, coordinated with suppliers and were great on the day. We really appreciate all the hard work they all put in, and for looking after us so well. We had our dream wedding here and couldn’t have picked a better venue!

Very intriguing pieces of contemporary art! Enjoyed viewing the sculptures up close to see the details. The centre have a few floors floors and some are meant for kids to play and interact with art

Called in late afternoon- it’s open till 6pm and is free. Wasn’t thrilled by the current exhibitions and only 2 floors were open. The Parasite exhibit didn’t explain enough for me to get what it was about. Good view of the river and city from 5th floor. Restaurant looked pricey but pleasant. Staffed by helpful people. We took the 54 bus back into Newcastle centre which was convenient.
Julie — Google review
Loved our morning exploring the interactive displays and sensory room. For those on a tight budget, but who want to feel like they're getting a nice treat, free drinks and snacks in the Front Room were an amazing addition and certainly help make the whole experience enjoyable.
Sarah H — Google review
Very nice. Kids area was quite good and interactive. The view from the top was beautiful. Excellent for a fun family day.
Nida S — Google review
It was absolutely amazing! I enjoyed every moment and was really impressed by the artworks Entry is completely free And the Baltic Kitchen was Nice! I ordered a carrot cake and a coffee the cake was seriously delicious!
Hayoung — Google review
One of our favourite family places to visit! The Baltic is free to enter (donations welcomed) and incredibly accessible for me (physically) and sensorily from our experience with our ND children. Of course, as a gallery, the exhibits change every few months. Recently two of our girls have LOVED the Harold Offeh: The Mothership Collective 2.0 which is a sensory explosion of bright colours, free play musical instruments, words to rearrange and toys to enjoy- the instruments are not loud , so even with a group of children accessing them, it's not overwhelming. This exhibition is available until January 2026. Having a "permanent" room is a huge pull for our youngest especially- and even more so when it features a sensory room. Think dimmed lighting, bubble tune, light boards, sequin boards and more wooden rainbow blocks than you could need. It's the perfect chill out space for anyone who needs it.

A show stopping gallery for contemporary art. Best city views, free exhibitions suitable for adults & children. Excellent 6th floor restaurant too

Historical landmark
Newcastle Castle, a stone fortress and former prison, was built between 1168 and 1178. Situated on the site of a Roman fortress, it offers stunning views over the city and river. The castle includes the Castle Keep and the Black Gate, both over 800 years old. Throughout its history, it has served as a fort, prison, Sheriffs office, and air raid shelter.
The history of this place is very interesting, and presented very well. Especially the pictures of how the area used to look like so many years ago. The staff is friendly too. When you buy a ticket, it's valid for one year, and you get access to both the Castle Keep and the Black Gate (with a small shop). The view of Newcastle on top of the Castle Keep is amazing. I stayed here for half an hour overlooking the city, including the trains.
Tim P — Google review
Absolutely loved visiting Newcastle Castle! I was genuinely impressed by the stunning architecture and how well this historic site has been preserved. Every stone seems to tell a story, and the views from the top are simply breathtaking — a perfect blend of history and scenery. Walking through the narrow passages and ancient chambers truly felt like stepping back in time. A must-visit for anyone interested in medieval history or simply looking to explore one of Newcastle’s architectural gems.
Noor Q — Google review
Had an amazing visit here as it was included in our walking tour. It's an amazing attraction and lots of history to be learnt. There is a lot of climbing so a reasonable level of fitness is needed, but there are areas to rest and look at historical aspects of the Castle. It wasn't too crowded and the information signs and interactive elements are very good. It's reasonably priced for entry and all in all a great experience.
Mark C — Google review
I enjoyed my visit. It was so close to my hotel and I could enjoy my time without the castle being too busy. The only thing was that it was so windy so I couldn't enjoy the views at the top of the castle! Other than that I was grateful for this experience.. some suggestions -there needs to be guides around and more signs out for visitors.
Justnara Z — Google review
The Castle in Newcastle is well worth a visit. It is the remnants of an impressive fort, but sadly much damaged by the construction of the railway passing right through the castle compound. The remains are in two separate section, each with its own entrance. The Castle Keep is the most impressive and allows access to its roof with great views over the city.
T H — Google review
Visited this castle on the last day of my holiday, and spent an enjoyable couple of hours here. A short but steep walk from the quayside, the castle consists of two main buildings, separated by a wooden bridge, the foundations of an earlier Roman fort, and railway arches. You have to visit the Black Gate first, because it's where you buy your tickets, in a small gift shop at the top of a flight of stone steps (there's a lift if you can't manage stairs). Adult admission is £12.50, it's £8.20 for a child, £11.25 concession. I bought an interesting little guidebook for £4.95, and there are also audio guides. The girl at the ticket desk was really helpful, telling me all about what there was to see and how to get to it. Useful to know that the only toilets in the castle are here too! The Black Gate, built around 1250, was the main gateway to the medieval castle. There's an upstairs exhibition in a former guardroom with artefacts, crafts, and lots of information about Newcastle's long and eventful history, but there's not a lot else to see. Far more interesting for me was the 12th century keep. The well-preserved rooms, on three floors reached by spiral staircases, include a great hall with medieval decorations and a large stone fireplace, a cellar, a Norman chapel, prisoners' cells, medieval toilets and a small room with a well. There are interesting passages and recesses to discover, but also a lot of steps not advisable for anyone with mobility issues to attempt. Plenty of fascinating info about the castle's history and royal connections, a few artefacts, and fun activities that included drawings for children to colour in and medieval board games, and friendly staff around to show me how to play them! But the highlight for me was the spectacular view from the roof! Accessed through an iron door at the top of a spiral staircase, it's a fantastic 360 degree panorama of Newcastle and all its best landmarks, from the Cathedral and Grey's Monument to the Tyne bridges, as well as the trains that were constantly passing below. Wonderful photo opportunities! All in all, a great way to spend the afternoon. Well worth a visit!

We booked with Newcastle Castle for an event and it was truly amazing. The staff were really organised and attentive in the lead up to the event and at the event itself. It was a really hot day and the team worked extremely hard carrying heavy things like tables etc into the hall and up many flights of stairs to set-up and pack down. The event went late into the evening so we really appreciate the staff working the event until that time and all the effort they put in to make the event super memorable. The castle itself is amazing, views from the rooftop are stunning, it's a beautiful venue! We had the best time ever and created memories we'll treasure forever ❤️

Well worth going just for the views. Amazing. You could see all the city and great place for pictures as well. Also good information in places like the great hall on the history of the castle.

Museums
The Laing Art Gallery, located in Newcastle upon Tyne, is the city's oldest gallery and a hub for historic, modern, and contemporary art. The gallery showcases 18th-20th century British oil paintings and watercolors in its vaulted-ceilinged galleries. Established in 1904 with funds from Alexander Laing, it houses an extensive collection of British artworks including pieces by John Martin, Paul Gauguin, Joshua Reynolds, and Edward Burne-Jones.
Well laid out and themed galleries gave a nice afternoon activity. I particularly enjoyed the emphasis on local artists and subjects. It’s nice to see the heritage of the area through the eyes of both historic and more modern artists. The gallery was also free to visit which was a nice and welcome surprise.
Peter B — Google review
The Lang Art Gallery is in a lovely building in the centre of Newcastle. The main part of the gallery is free and contains a variety of artworks. There is also a section where you can buy tickets. The current exhibition is ‘Romance to Realities’ where they are displaying art relating to the changing landscapes of the North. It was interesting to see paintings from Durham, Northumberland, and the Scottish boarders. I felt it was worth paying to see. The Gallery has a cafe but I cannot comment on this as I didn’t go in. The gift shop sold a selection of goods from books and cards to jewellery and bags. I travelled by train and it took less than 15 mins to walk from there.
Melanie H — Google review
We went today with my daughter because she loves art, and it was incredible. I think everyone should take their kids there to see so many historical pieces and amazing artwork. There are five different art rooms you can visit for free, and there are more exhibitions available if you’re willing to pay.
Shoayb H — Google review
Free art gallery with a cafe and a shop. There's also an exhibition currently (With These Hands) that requires an admission charge, but I couldn't find information about it (on-site) so I chose not to visit it. However, the free exhibitions are nice on their own. Definitely worth a visit.
Tim P — Google review
A really cool art gallery with some great Newcastle glass and pottery. Short walk from Manors and Monument stations. Good cafe as well! 😀
William B — Google review
The Laing Art Gallery features an impressive mix of British art, from classic oil paintings to contemporary exhibitions. Housed in a charming Edwardian building, the gallery offers well-curated and informative displays. Admission is free, and the friendly staff make your visit even better. There’s also a cosy café to relax in after exploring the art, and a playroom for kids, which closes at 15:30 for cleaning. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy art in the heart of Newcastle.
Kichu K — Google review
Great gallery. Missed out on one star due to the gift shop not stocking much related to their own collection. Still a great place to visit.

I had a truly delightful morning at the Laing Art Gallery. The space is beautifully curated, with themed galleries providing the perfect setting for an engaging afternoon.

Located in Blandford Square, the Discovery Museum is a treasure trove of local maritime history and science exhibits. The museum showcases Newcastle's industrial and maritime past with temporary exhibitions and features the Destination Tyneside gallery, highlighting the area's migration history. Visitors can explore diverse collections including maritime history, social history, costumes, and military items. The museum offers interactive experiences such as a science maze, TARDIS room, and flight simulator across its three floors.
Free... free... for free. A amazing place to visit better than other nearby museums with respect. Loads of exhibits and things to enjoy inside. Loved the challenger 2 tank outside. Loved walking through Newcastle over the years. No pressure to donate just a few stations scattered about unmanned asking for donations. Staff where helpful and friendly and with it being big your never too close to other people and you've time to absorb and enjoy the exhibits.
Robin C — Google review
Took a train ride with the children and had a under 10 minute walk to the museum. It is free to enter, wheelchair accessible and pushchair friendly, they have places to park your pram or pushchair. They have a cafe. Plenty of things to do, lots to learn and see and plenty of interactive things. 3 floors to interact with, our children range from 2 to 14 and they all enjoyed it. Highly recommend
Janine R — Google review
Booked in for a activity that was making a madel around a moving sphere so we could pick up recycling. It was a small booking fee for adults and child and the 4yr old could come for free. This was harder then I expected but we had a lot of fun and the staff were amazing with both children. Especially since the youngest went rogue controlling the sphere and kept trying to eat the ladies lunch. They absolutely loved this
Jean R — Google review
It’s free so who’s to complain? Daughter (2) and newborn had a great few hours out, sadly I didn’t get time to read much of the stuff as my toddler wanted to run around, it’s a great place for a free day out and I often go there for a day out to also Take my older kids who were at school this day but it does get busy on school holidays and weekends. The water room where toddlers play with water gets really busy but I don’t go in there otherwise I’d never get back out. It’s a very interesting place all I. All

Pretty sizable museum with lots of history and content about Newcastle upon tyne. Great place for kids or people who are into history/war. Best of all, its free! P.s. Thank you to the staff and Garry for helping me look after my luggage while i roam the museum.

Life Science Centre in Newcastle is an interactive and modern science village that offers a range of engaging activities for children. From exploring space to conducting experiments, kids can enjoy educational experiences through playful means. The center features a planetarium, themed shows, and a 4D Motion Ride. It's the perfect place for families to combine education with fun games while working together.
So much to do! We went with children aged 4, 7 and 11 and there was something for all of them. There's so much to get hands on with including experiments with forces, gravity, balance, light, sound, illusions, memory, spacial awareness and many more. The lab area for 7+ allows them to do structured experiments following step by step instructions on a touch screen. The space area has a fab interactive area for younger children and there's a soft play space for under 7s on the top floor. You can try your hand at controlling NASA style computers, listen to the experiences of real astronauts and find answers to questions such as how you go to the toilet in space. We didn't make it to any of the shows and still could have spent more time there! Highly recommend if you have children with inquisitive minds and busy hands.
Hayley T — Google review
Such a fun and inspiring place to spend the day! The Life Science Centre is perfect for both kids and adults – interactive exhibitions, hands-on experiments, planetarium shows, and even live science demonstrations. Everything is engaging and easy to understand, making science come alive in the most exciting way. Staff are friendly and passionate, which adds to the experience. Highly recommend for families, curious minds, or anyone looking for a unique day out in Newcastle!
Vincy C — Google review
Great place to take kids, my 2yo daughter loved the interactive contraptions. For older kids there's even more to do. The planetarium show was great! Highly recommend.
João N — Google review
Great for any age. I waited for my daughter to be 8 to go thinking she'd understand more, but actually its great for any age... even a 48 year old! We spent 3 hours without realising where the time had gone! We added Times square parking into the ticket which I thought was good value being right in the centre of Newcastle.
L T — Google review
My 9 year old says 5 stars, he loved it! My 6 year old says 4 stars because it closes to early 😂 I say 5 stars because it made it easy to keep my kids entertained a whole day 🥰 We arrived 10 minutes before it opened and stayed in until it closed. *Did most of the experiments *One planetarium show *The live science show *Assembled two Halloween lanterns *Spent a little fortune in the cafes and gift shop. We'll be back!
Reena M — Google review
We visited here as a family for the first time and it definitely won’t be the last so many lovely activities and interactive activities for all ages to enjoy. We visited because of a promotional price on the entry which was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and a nice relaxed atmosphere to just wander around at our own pace. We will definitely revisit it.

Great North Museum: Hancock, a refurbished Victorian museum in Newcastle upon Tyne, offers an intriguing exploration of natural history and ancient civilizations. The museum showcases collections from the Hancock Museum, Newcastle University's Museum of Antiquities, the Shefton Museum, and the Hatton Gallery. Visitors can marvel at interactive displays of Hadrian's Wall, diverse animal and plant kingdoms, Ancient Greek artifacts, Egyptian mummies, a planetarium experience, and a life-size T-Rex skeleton.
I absolutely loved my visit to the Great North Museum in Newcastle! 🦖 From life-sized dinosaurs to fascinating mummies and ancient history exhibits, there’s so much to explore. 🌟 The best part is that it’s free and perfect for a fun, interactive family day out. My kids had a great time with all the hands-on activities and interactive screens. Highly recommended if you’re looking for something exciting and educational to do.

This is one of Newcastle's free museums. It was a quiet weekday when I visited. Not been since childhood some 40 years ago, so it was good to go back. Spent a few hours looking at the different aspects of the museum. The Ancient Egypt section was my favourite. Well worth a visit to the Planetarium if you have an interest in the planets, stars and the universe. We watched from Earth to the Universe. Can recommend it.
Nicola S — Google review
Review: This review is specifically about the Hadrian’s Wall section of the museum. It was exactly what I had hoped for before beginning my exploratory journey through the Hadrian’s Wall area. The displays offer superb descriptions and are very well laid out. There were only a few visitors in that part of the hall; I was able to take my time and really enjoy the exhibits. One small note: many of the information panels are positioned very low, near the base of the displays, and the lighting in that area isn’t always ideal for reading them, so you often have to crouch or kneel to see the text clearly—something that can be a bit challenging after a while. To be thorough, it takes approximately 90 minutes to go through the Roman and Anglo-Saxon areas of the museum. One plus is that, by seeing where along Hadrian’s Wall the items I was most interested in were discovered, I was able to add several more locations to visit on my trip here. Still, it was everything I’d hoped for. Having visited the area some 30 years ago, I’m simply happy to be back again and to see it presented with such care and detail.

I can't believe this place is free to visit. It's a very good place to learn British history. There is an Egyptian museum as well, with mummies on display. A must-go place with children. It's beautifully managed, and the staff is very kind.

We had the best day out for my son's birthday. The museum exhibits were amazing, we did 2 of the planetarium shows. Unfortunately the cafe was heaving but that's most likely due to school holidays. I have absolutely no complaints and we left a donation on our way out and also visited the gift shop. All staff were super friendly, helpful and they really made our day. So thank you very much! I'd love to come back again in the future.

Discover the fascinating history of the Victoria Tunnel, a 19th-century underground wagonway originally used for transporting coal and later repurposed as a WWII air-raid shelter. The tunnel, which operated from 1842 to the 1860s, played a crucial role in protecting thousands of Newcastle citizens during World War II. Guided tours offer insights into its historical significance and take visitors on a journey from the Town Moor to the River Tyne.
The tunnel itself is only part of the tour, it is the history that goes with it, that really makes it. That history was brought alive by Pete and Graham, fantastic, passionate social historians. I learnt a huge amount, and came away, being impressed by Victorian engineering. The other part of the story is all about the tunnel’s later use during the Second World War. Equally enthralling. Thank you both for a great experience, and who knew there was a legitimate use for the Daily Mail?

Really great experience. The two tour guides Trev and Mick were fantastic both knowledgeable, kind and funny. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

It was an amazing experience for us. We preferred the 2 hours tour. Our guide was incredibly entertaining and very knowledgeable. You don’t realize how time flies. You have an unforgettable experience while learning about the history of the tunnel. I am usually uncomfortable with closed spaces, but the tunnel is very airy. If you don’t have a very severe illness ( strong claustrophobia), I recommend this very impressive experience.

Top Tunnel Tour : Our group had a great tour with Helen and Anne . They were really relaxed and very knowledgeable and friendly. We got a great feel of what it must have been like in the 2nd world war. Thank you for a very memorable experience 👍🏽

Went on a Sunday and had the best time! Trish and Mal were amazing guides, so funny and knowledgable which made it entertaining throughout the 2 hour tour. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves history, Newcastle, or just wants to see this place!

Steve H and Trev brought life and humour to this fascinating tour. They explained the activities during WWII and the history of its inception and build - with some high drama reenactment! It’s a must!
Alex S — Google review
Visited the tunnel as part of a birthday getaway. So glad we booked as they were turning lots of people away. Jane, our guide, was excellent. the information and stories she told us over the 2 hour tour really brought the tunnel to life. Great tour. Highly recommended.

Went mid week and really enjoyed the tour and the knowledgeable hosts. We went for the just over 2 hour tour option to get the most out of the tour. You are provided with hard hats and flashlights. I was fine but it's not for those who either don't like the dark or might feel uncomfortable in tight spaces, the heigh was just enough so that your hard hat would not touch the ceiling though tall people might bump their heads a few times. Would recommend.

"The Biscuit Factory" is a 2-storey art and crafts gallery located in a large, former warehouse with exposed bricks and stripped floors. It offers diverse exhibitions by established big name and emerging artists across four gallery spaces. The venue provides accessible facilities such as toilets, baby changing facilities, adult changing facilities (available on request), and hearing loops at various locations.
My favourite art gallery in Newcastle. I liked how you could see the prices of every item. There are so many different kinds of exhibits. The style of the building is nice-it really makes it stand out. There's a good cafe within the art gallery as well.

Very very artsy place. Definitely a place to visit to get your creative juices flowing! Art pieces all came with a pretty crazy price tag so for the rich artsy peeps why spend £500 on a balenciaga when you can get an exotic looking vase! Btw i love the animal pieces that were made using different materials to give cool textures

Parking is extremely difficult. On my visit I came with a lad in a wheelchair and two cars (neither had blue badges) were parked across where the disability bay is situated. There were no alternative spaces nearby. Once inside though the Biscuit Factory is a delight of exhibits by local artists. It's a lovely building to wander around. The cafe has a diverse menu and all our ordered meals were lovely. 5 stars for the gallery and cafe but a star off for parking

Lovely gallery and shop space with a cafe. Stopped in for just under an hour. Didn't visit the cafe this time as came early in the day and not long had breakfast, but enjoyed viewing the books and artwork, as well as checking the upcoming events. Parked a short walk from the location thinking we wouldn't get parked, but there was some spaces left.

Lovely place to go for some nice arts as well as food. I had Imam Bayeldi which was their special that day and it was gorgeous, very tasty and full of flavour. Staff were friendly too. Then looking at some arts which I think are work of local artist and they are lovely and very interesting.

Fantastic gallery, full of interesting, unique pieces. Also includes a great coffee shop, well worth a visit

We visited while we were staying in Newcastle for a few days. We often visit art galleries & I think many are getting better at being inclusive open to all rather than exclusive. This one is fantastic! The building and interior is inviting and as soon as we walked in we were welcomed and a member of the team told us about the gallery as we'd never been before. The artwork was accessible both in terms of viewing and purchasing with the option to pay with installments. We bought a gorgeous sculpture. It was a great experience. Unfortunately we live in Essex so can't go back regularly (there were so many beautiful pieces) but would definitely recommend visiting.

Grainger Market is a lively market hall that has been around since 1835, housing over 80 vendors selling a variety of goods including produce, meat, and vintage items. It's a historic part of Newcastle's city center where shoppers have been finding household essentials and unique items for generations. The market offers a wide range of products from around the world under its iconic arched roof.
A unique place. Lots of different eats places, we chose items from a bakery and pizza, freshly made £3.00 for a slice bigger than my head! Great selection of other stalls selling a wide variety of meats, fish, fruit, vegetables, bakery, deli and speciality foods. Look and you'll find the remaining M &S penny bazaar...such a treat. Great space with a welcoming vibe

Loved wandering around Grainger Market! Such a lively place with so much character. From old-school butchers and bakeries to little cafés and international street food, there’s always something to explore. Ended up snacking my way through and even picked up some local goodies. It’s not fancy, but it feels authentic and full of charm – definitely a spot to experience the real Newcastle vibe.

When visiting the Granger Market I always like to call in to the Firebrick Brewery shop for a couple of drinks. The shop has a large selection of canned craft ales and a nice selection of their own keg beers too. They kindly allow you to bring your own food in which you can purchase from the vast selection of food outlets around the market. Great place to sit and relax.

During a fleeting vist back to Newcastle we walked through Grainger Market - wonderful arcades selling huge selections of meat, Poultry, vegetable and fruit - clothing - cafes with great local food n drinks - we had Sausage rolls with Jalapeños and another with black pudding - yhe pastry was wonderfull - thoroughly enjoyed

I get it why it's so popular and people visiting. Well layout and with a plethora of shops, dining places and a couple of coffee shops. Fresh produce, meat market, everything you would expect and more. Currently under refurbishment and a couple of areas restricted. My only feedback is the lack of public toilets, we've been told due to the renovation!
Alexandros K — Google review
Went on Wednesday and about 50% of the stalls were either, closed or vacant, good selection of places to eat and what stalls were open were very good, however, there is building work going on there and whoever thought it was a good idea to close the toilets, without an on site alternative, needs to rethink there idea. With no disabled loos on site the alternative is a walk to the nearby shopping centre, not fun when you are desperate to go, not too mention all the staff that work there. Have some common sense.

Tyneside Cinema, located in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, is a refurbished 3-screen cinema housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building. It offers a unique experience with comfortable seating and a diverse selection of films not commonly found elsewhere. The independent picture house also features two cafes and an airy bar, making it an ideal spot for pre or post-movie drinks. Additionally, Tyneside Cinema provides free guided tours and showcases newsreel displays.
Been here a few times great options for experiences such as the Mamma Mia! Sing-Along Bottomless Brunch. Alongside a diverse set of films to choose from and excellent prices for a lovely experience. I also very much enjoyed the decor at this establishment. The staff were very friendly and helpful whenever I visited.
Figuring O — Google review
Having tried to see a docu/movie last Sunday and due to not being able to get parked, didn’t manage to get to the venue in time and wasn’t able to cancel my booking however the cinema went beyond what I was expecting and credited my account to spend on another film which I did the following Wednesday. As someone who has worked in cinemas for decades and upto lockdown, frequented the Tyneside a few times a year so not a great customer. My visit on Wednesday left me feeling underwhelmed with the place, the famous Tea Room isn’t open anymore, there was hardly any visible staff, it appeared the circle area of the classic was closed as well, the place was pretty empty and felt soulless, a depressing sight. I was interested in applying for one of the jobs and was going to go to the open day this month and have a chat with someone about applying for one of the front of house jobs, but seeing the place as it was last Wednesday has put me off, I think it might be boring. Some cinemas have managed to rebuild business after the enforced closure, sadly the Tyneside seems it hasn’t. I wish the place well and hopefully one day it might see an increase in guests although without what was its great asset is no longer open, I don’t think it will. I was in a very small cinema, the Roxy yet despite a very small screen, the presentation was pretty good with a decent screen image and great sound, but can understand with smaller auditoria like Roxy, how people might just prefer watching movies at home as most people have large screens now. Was a sad visit as it was such a great place.

Love this cinema 💗 I booked at the box office to see a film later that day, when I arrived I was told very apologetically by the lovely staff member that the film had to be cancelled due to a technical issue. My ticket was refunded plus I was given a voucher to see an alternative film free ! More than happy with this, thank you. I also enjoyed the coffee and the sweet potato fries in the cafe bar & the staff in there are really lovely too ! I have just found this great cinema & will be back as often as possible ! 💗
Marion — Google review
Tyneside is a reminder of how cinema is more than just a screen. In the days of multiplex & a digital life, Tyneside is one of the few remaining places that still truly feel like a real cinema. They have a welcoming foyer and the ground floor screen has comfortable original style cinema seats, and still has an actual ‘curtains up’. The building has some beautiful original interior, while being upgraded on upper floors to accommodate extra screens. The stairs are a trek, but thankfully there is a lift!! The cinema shows a variety of films from mainstream to indie, and shows many films you wouldn’t see at big chain places. Tickets are a little more than some places, but they offer discounts which are easily applied (I use a Cea card) and if you need to change your plans, I’ve found this cinema much more accommodating to this than many others. The staff are always friendly and ready to help, and though the bar/cafe area is often busy, it usually doesn’t take much time to be served. The food may not be cheap, but it’s always a healthy size & I’ve enjoyed the things I’ve tried from the menu so far. Keep it up Tyneside & I hope you’re long to remain a wonderful place, with a true cinema spirit.

What a fantastic cinema in the heart of Newcastle. Staff very friendly - feels family run. Great bar as well, for pre drinks, and you can buy a bottle of wine to take in to watch the film.

Have always had a good experience here. The seats are nice, the screens are clear (unlike an experience we had at Cineworld. Decent range of alcohol free beers which you can take into the film with you.
Sophia M — Google review
The Heritage tour was very informative, and it was great to learn about the history of the cinema from our Heritage Guide. The newsreel shown was from well before my time, and provided an excellent insight into past events and how they were reported. The Tyneside Cinema is well worth a visit

One of the best independent cinemas going at the moment. Some of the best showings for the big upcoming new films with early releases. Comfortable seating, lovely cafe, cool overnight fun screenings and genuine staff, who’ve never been a problem but have always made the experience great! P.S - make more shirts with the over night showings (I will buy them)

It is dedicated to British children's books and features a permanent collection of books by over 250 authors and illustrators, along with rotating exhibitions and educational events. The space offers daily storytelling sessions, interactive objects for toddlers, and creative workshops for both kids and adults.
An amazing place for lovers of children's literature. Plenty of space for children to explore and create. Plenty of books everywhere for children (and adults) to read, as well as original manuscript exerts and illustrations from the creators of these marvellous stories. Please donate, as it's free to enter. See the website or box office for events.

Came today for our first time after seeing good things about it on social media and after reading the good reviews on Google. My daughter is a big reader so I thought this place would be brilliant for her but we left feeling fairly disappointed. We were only able to visit 2 of the rooms as the rest were either closed or had paid-for activities running in them which we had no idea about. We saw the Tiger exhibit and the Famous Five one. Apart from that, we couldn't see anything else and were really gutted not to be able to see the Mog exhibit. Glad it was free, I would've been really annoyed if I had to pay an entry fee. There could be a lot more available to see, especially during the summer holidays
Rebecca F — Google review
I went here with a friend and a 12 month and 14 month old. Gallery: lovely nostalgic sketches for adults. Not much to do for babies-2 year olds. Dress up, colouring in, role play for older kids. Themed story areas. My little one liked the lit up arch on the 4th floor the most- would be nice to introduce a young ones story themed sensory area maybe? We turned up and the story time event was fully booked along with the craft sessions. Maybe should have some space for walk-ins? The gallery spaces desperately needed the floors cleaning and dusting. Cafe: not suitable for nut allergies. It sells peanut Graze products. There were peanuts all over the table and it was only wiped clean. You’d think they wouldn’t sell nuts in a children’s centre where millions of kids have nut allergies? Sold sandwiches and cake. Friend said cake was very good. FYI about £4 for a hot chocolate. The high chair straps were broken. Toilets: 1 baby change in women’s, 1 in men. We queued. Accessibility: due to the nature of the building there is only one lift and we had to wait quite a while for it on each floor. There are also a lot of doors which is hard with a pram. It’s brilliant to promote reading for children and we’re lucky to have this venue in the north east. But I think it would be nicer with an older child if you could get booked onto an event, sit and read stories, colour in, role play etc. Otherwise there’s not much to do for a 0-2 year old.

Really enjoyed the Judith kerr exhibitions. Having seen the tiger one in York a few years ago, I loved the new mog one. Excellent bookshop too.
Charlotte W — Google review
I adore this children's literature-themed place very much. The first floor is the bookshop and a big cafe. The second to fourth floors are galleries for presenting different authors’ artworks. It was very nice to see how many cute hand drawings and decor they demonstrated. I like how they designed some places for kids to hide and play. Also, they have giant toys displayed on two floors which are based on the characters from children’s books. It is such an amazing combo of a bookshop and galleries to go to, especially for kids with their families.

Newcastle Cathedral is a medieval structure featuring a lantern spire and the Baron Collingwood memorial. It stands as a powerful representation of dark, looming architecture in the city's tradition. The cathedral holds over 900 years of Newcastle's history within its stones and monuments, being the only cathedral in the UK dedicated to St Nicholas. Its iconic Lantern Tower has served as a guiding light for ships on the River Tyne.
I popped into Newcastle Cathedral the other day while wandering around the city center, and it was surprisingly cool. I mean, I'm not usually one for cathedrals, but this one had something about it... First off, it's free to get in, which is always a bonus. They just have a collection box if you want to donate. It's a beautiful building, really impressive inside. The stained glass is gorgeous, and some really interesting sculptures and art. There's a new churchyard trail and landscaped terrace, providing a sanctuary to unwind. I was just wandering around, snapping photos, and soaking it all in. I overheard a tour guide who was excellent and made the history of the cathedral extremely interesting. You can easily spend an hour or two just wandering around, checking everything out. They have a shop and a café. It's a welcoming space, with friendly staff and volunteers. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in Newcastle and want to see a bit of history and beautiful architecture. Plus, they have concerts and events sometimes, so check their website.

Attended an 80's concert by candlelight. Lovely atmosphere. The staff on the door and the bar/cafe friendly - cakes on offer looked amazing but didnt sample - one for another visit! Lots of space to move out of people's way and dance. Good venue but a little chilly being a cathedral so dancing warms you up.
Angie G — Google review
A nice Cathedral but I dislike new modern furniture being introduced where they clearly don’t fit and here is a good example, nothing appears in keeping. What I liked though was seeing how some homeless people were able to find a seat and rest here from the rain, get warmth and comfort. It’s what a religious building should be doing and looking to reach out.
Michael J — Google review
Lovely and very beautiful free to enter cathedral. Was greeted by kind staff who made sure to tell me where things were and that I could ask questions if I wished. Lots of gorgeous stained glass windows, there are toilets and a cafe as a well as a small gift shop.

Been spoilt, the pews are gone, the laid up regimental colours hidden away on some dingy corner. Place of worship now more often a concert venue full of drunks. No wonder the C of E is becoming a joke.

First time in the Cathedral for a music event. It is an amazing building and the acoustics were very good. Not the real Fleetwood Mac but they were a decent band. Nestled in the heart of Newcastle, The Stand Comedy Club offers a delightful escape into the world of laughter and entertainment. This vibrant venue features nightly stand-up performances from both local talents and international stars, ensuring that every visit is filled with joy and humor. After exploring the city's attractions, gather your friends or a special someone for an unforgettable evening at this basement comedy haven. The Stand is renowned for hosting some of the best comedians around, including legends like Fred MacAulay and Frankie Boyle.
Red Raw at The Stand on Wednesdays is always a great night out. Really interesting to see comedians at such different stages of their journeys. Some in their infancy, even performing for the first time, more established acts just trying out new material. Always a rollercoaster - some raising the roof immediately, others starting off slow but picking up as they find their footing and become more confident with the crowd, others struggling be it due to understandable nerves or material just not going as planned but there’s always such an encouraging atmosphere, you feel that everyone is rooting for each other. Given the prestige and track record of this comedy club - many performers going on to achieve great success, any one of the comedians you watch perform for the first time could become the next big thing, such an exciting and inspiring feeling. Also, surprisingly good food and drink menu here. Service is friendly and fast. Would recommend the veggie hot dog in particular.

Great night of comedy! We got there right at 6:30 and got great seats. It did fill up quickly, so glad we were there early. It was also great to have food service. While the line to order was long, the food was super quick to come out and delicious! Drinks were also good and a good price! I’d come back for a show again. Joe Heenan was a great host. They certainly pick on the people in the first row or two, so be prepared for that!

The basement is a great comedy club only one thing I can find as an inconvenience, places to put your drinks as not every where has a table. You might leave your drink under a chair if someone is minding it for you. The rest of the place. The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a modern and iconic structure that spans the River Tyne, providing separate pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and engineered by Gifford, it stands out among the distinguished bridges in the area. Connecting Gateshead with Newcastle via Gateshead Quays and Newcastle's Quayside, this bridge not only serves as a functional crossing but also attracts visitors from around the world due to its elegant design and engineering marvel.
As a piece of architecture, this bridge is pleasing to the eye on many forms. It's presence is bold and demanding, you just have to look at it and figure out what it looks like without even moving. At night it is lit up to offer a beautiful spectrum against the blacked out background of the Tyne river. It also offers a beautiful view from a neighbouring Hotel we have stayed at several times. It was always a great little walk to wake up in the morning before diving back into the warm hotel for breakfast
Chris C — Google review
Gateshead Millennium Bridge – Engineering with Soul The Gateshead Millennium Bridge isn’t just a crossing—it’s a performance. Linking Newcastle’s Quayside with Gateshead’s cultural quarter, this sleek, tilting arc is a marvel of modern design and quiet drama. I visited on a breezy evening, just in time to watch the bridge tilt—a slow, graceful motion that earned it the nickname “Blinking Eye.” It’s the world’s first and only tilting bridge, and when it moves, it feels like the river itself is taking a breath. The structure is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, making it a peaceful vantage point to take in the Tyne’s historic skyline. Nearby, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and Sage Gateshead add cultural weight to the experience, while the Quayside buzzes with cafés and market stalls. Whether you’re drawn by its engineering or its elegance, the Millennium Bridge offers a moment of quiet connection—between cities, between people, and between past and future.

The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in the North East. It’s not just a bridge, it’s a piece of art and engineering brilliance. The tilting design is incredible to see in action, and at night the lighting makes it even more spectacular. Great place for a walk, cycling, or just enjoying the Quayside views. Definitely a must-visit in Newcastle and Gateshead!
Waleed A — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is absolutely stunning and a must-see in Newcastle–Gateshead. Its unique tilting design makes it one of the most impressive bridges I’ve ever visited, both as a piece of engineering and as a landmark. Walking across gives you great views of the Quayside, and at night the bridge lights up beautifully, creating a magical atmosphere. It’s also right by plenty of pubs, restaurants, and attractions, so it’s perfect to include as part of an evening stroll. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, it’s an iconic spot that captures the energy and character of Newcastle. Highly recommended, especially at sunset or after dark when the reflections on the water are incredible.

Walking across offers fantastic Quayside views, and nearby restaurants, it’s perfect for an evening stroll. Highly recommended, especially at sunset or after dark.
Majid H — Google review
Every time I cross this bridge to visit the Baltic I marvel at the amazing views it offers. It is visually very beautiful from afar and the practical elements of the design allows for both pedestrians and cyclists to cross in their own safe space. In the past I have taken some lovely photos of the bridge at twilight; sadly on my most recent visit it was too cold and blustery to hang around until the light started to fade.
Anne S — Google review
Haven't seen it move, but it would have been an interesting observation as this idea is unique
Eugen F — Google review
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a stunning example of modern engineering and design, linking Gateshead and Newcastle over the River Tyne. Its unique tilting mechanism, resembling a “blinking eye,” is both functional and mesmerizing to watch in action. The sleek, arched structure is particularly beautiful when illuminated at night, casting reflections on the water. Offering scenic views of the river and surrounding landmarks, it’s a favorite spot for photographers and visitors alike. While weather and timing for the tilt might affect the experience, the bridge remains a must-see icon of innovation and elegance.

With its Grade listed architecture and association with esteemed institutions like the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre, it holds a prestigious status in England's theatrical landscape.
Absolutely show end of the season. Enjoyed by everyone the atmosphere was Thanks to the access card for health and disabilities the theatre royal are very helpful if you ring them they will help you book and sort the tickets to prevent any worry or stress and explain the seating to you. Lift up to the amphitheatre. Good view it's so good you don't think about the height. Thank you it was enjoyed by me and my friend we laughed from start to finish. Can't wait for next year's Aladdin.

I really enjoyed the Royal Theatre. Always present great shows, the staff is very helpful and polite - even if the queue at the bar is long the staff is efficient in serving everyone quickly. I ordered a glass of Prosecco, and it was a good quality one . The theatre is gorgeous with its red velvets and beautiful Edwardian style ornaments - sits are comfortable, and it is a pleasure to go.

Beautiful theatre rich in history. Gallery seating designed perfectly that you can see the stage perfect. More snack options would be my only gripe but a fair selection none the less. Great time
Adam C — Google review
Beautiful theatre both inside and outside. It's not huge but seats are very steep if you don't like heights. We were in the upper circle and view was good. I don't think there are many seats without a decent view. We watched Miss Saigon. Stunning show. Staff are lovely. Big queue for toilets during interval but I suppose that is expected. I have been several times and I always enjoy the venue. It is in a lovely part of Newcastle with stunning buildings, eateries and bars galore. We parked at Dean street car park and it's a very easy walk of about 5 mins. Recommend.

Went to see the little mermaid panto and what a superb production. Excellent value as I was sat in the cheap seats but had ample leg room and a little side table although only a partial view as the safety rail was obstructing my view. All involved were so great and the place was rammed with kids who all seemed to be enjoying it and getting involved. Great time

Wylam Brewery is located in a picturesque spot, overlooking a small lake in the heart of Exhibition Park. The brewery is housed in a Grade II listed building that has undergone a loving renovation. Visitors can enjoy craft ale at the tap room and attend live shows in the events space. The venue is dog-friendly, making it perfect for leisurely afternoons with your furry friend.
I absolutely love photographing weddings at Wylam Brewery! It’s such a fun, vibrant venue and different. The mix of industrial feel and cool, relaxed vibes makes it perfect for capturing both laid-back moments and those fun, lively weddings. The space itself is amazing—high ceilings, exposed beams, and plenty of light to work with. Plus, the food and beers are always out of this world. Wylam Brewery is definitely one to check out!

As brewery taprooms go this has to be by far the slickest one I’ve been in. The Taproom has the full range of Wylam beers including upto 4 cask options, the more informal terrace bar has just the craft. If unsure ask for a taster, they’re all top quality. The main hall is closed when private functions are taking place.
Mark N — Google review
Visited Wylam Brewery for a roast dinner recently, choices were beef, pork, lamb or a veggie option. (£19). We also added a side of cauliflower cheese between 4 of us which was very good probaly best ive had. The roast with served with a big Yorkshire pudding, green veg, smashed roots, roasted parsnip and roast potatoes. Beef was really tender and well cooked, potatoes could have been slightly better. Service was mostly good except some confusion at start. Drinks a little expensive but it is their own beers that they brew, it's dog friendly and they have a lovely beer garden for after

Excellent place this! Located in a large park in walking distance from the city center. I have been hear before but this time i had decided to also try their sunday roast. I would recommend to book in advance if you want to eat on a Sunday. Beautiful area both inside and outside the brewery with plenty of seating. This time there also was two food trucks located outside the brewery. Good selection of Wylam beers on tap. There was also a few guest beers. Great service from all of the staff. Got to try the new Wylam x Wor Flags collab, really nice fruity low abv pale ale. They were officially sold out of cans of this one, but one of the waiters suddenly told me he had one 4 pack left if i would like to bring some with me home, so that was a really nice gesture👌 The food did not dissapoint either. I had the Duck Leg Croquette and Topside of Galloway Beef. Sunday roast is my favourite british dish and this was top class 👌

Celebrated a family get together for Sunday lunch, staff were polite and very helpful. The service was paced well for us though we did run over our time slot which didn't appear to be a problem. We pre ordered our meals as there was 15 of us and food was lovely and not excessive.

We had Sunday dinner at Wylam Brewery and were really impressed. The pork was well-cooked, the cauliflower cheese was spot on, and the vegan dish was genuinely enjoyable. Everything was nicely balanced and the wine selection worked well with the meal. One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in a while.

Unfortunately the inside was closed but we sat outside instead for a pint and a burger, lovely place to spend a few hours outside the busy and loud city center
Eugen F — Google review
This venue does not allow cars/taxi to drop you off at the door and therefore a long walk, in the pitch black to the door. Certainly not something I would have done if I was on my own as it does not feel safe. There was a shuttle bus (golf buggy) but it took too long to do each journey. Venue itself is beautiful and well looked after with a good range of drinks.

First time trying this restaurant……boy I was not disappointed. Best Sunday lunch in the north east. Firstly the setting is lovely, fantastic outside seating area and stacks of character inside. Been a few years since we were last here and was just as good as I remember. We got the langostine cocktail and scallop starters, with oyster and hash brown snacks. Followed by Duck breast and a side of cheese leeks. All dishes were exceptional, but I do need the recipe for the brown sauce that came with the hash browns. Or at least them to sell bottles of it. I've never felt so passionate about a condiment but this is well deserving. Service was great, attentive and friendly.

The Tyne Bridge is an iconic landmark in Newcastle, England, known for its open-work arch that creates a striking elliptical appearance when viewed from a distance. Spanning the River Tyne, this 7,000-ton bridge took over three years to complete and stands at 59 meters high and 389 meters long. It connects the city center with Gateshead and offers stunning views of the river and city skyline. The bridge is a popular spot for both pedestrians and drivers seeking picturesque photo opportunities.
There she is, the Tyne Bridge, watching down over all of us. As imposing as it is, it's also very comforting and I always look forward to seeing this whenever I am back home in my native North East.

There's always a holiday atmosphere on Newcastle Quayside. Iconic views, Baltic gallery, Millennium Bridge, plenty of pubs and restaurants. A lovely place for an evening stroll. The open air market on a Sunday is great for food, crafts, art and ice cream. In summer there's often special events like the beach resort or a tall ship, and the Baltic always has something new on display for a winter's day.

The Tyne Bridge is undeniably an iconic symbol connecting Newcastle and Gateshead, embodying the spirit and resilience of the region. When it opened it was the largest single-span bridge globally, and it remains a striking piece of engineering to this day. Walking across the bridge offers breathtaking views of the River Tyne and the surrounding cityscape. At sunset, the scenery is especially beautiful, casting warm hues across the skyline—a perfect backdrop for photos.

Situated at the heart of Grainger Town, it marks the retail center of Newcastle and is surrounded by Georgian buildings, including the iconic Grey Street.

It’s a great spot to take in the sights, people-watch, or simply enjoy the historic significance of the monument.

A great meeting place where you’ll often find people playing music, waiting for friends and hanging out. The brilliant thing about the monument is you can climb up inside and see the incredible views at the top. It’s 163/4 steps to the top snd the tours happen infrequently, you can find out more about them through NGI (Newcastle Gateshead initiative). The tours are excellent snd guides are volunteers who are very knowledgable about the cities history, definitely recommend booking one if you can.

Grey's Monument is a historic monument in central Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is nice to hang out on this street, crowded with people, which is what distinguishes it. There are many restaurants and cafes along the street as well as a shopping centre. The metro station is nearby and the place can be reached easily.

Amazing historic column in the centre of Newcastle, stunning views from street level as well as from top. Absolutely favorite in Newcastle, just get there in the evening, sit near the monument and the whole town rotates around you. There are restaurants available nearby as well. Bus stops are a stone throws away and you can see down the grey street till the theater which leads down to Quay side. Wonderful place.

The monument is impressive as the whole street. The old architectures along the Grey Street are so magnificent, when walking along it, I was like stroking in 19 century. If it was not because of the cloudy, I believe the sunlight shines on the stones would be stunning. The first buildings on either side of Grey Street are very beautiful. Any corner or pillar can make excellent backgrounds for photoshoots.

This is such a gorgeous idea, in a stunning city and a beautiful location. The lady that looked after us was brilliant and she informed us on all the beautiful rescues there. Treats were provided by CatPawCino and one is able to order coffees, drinks and toasties. I had cheese and tomato and it was lovely. Highly recommend and cannot wait to go back.

I absolutely loved my visit here! The cats were so beautiful, fluffy, and full of personality 🐾💖 The staff were incredibly sweet and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I booked the 1-hour package — personally I think it’s the perfect amount of time to cuddle and play with the cats before you’re completely covered in cat fur hahaha 😅 Definitely worth it if you’re a cat lover!

In my opinion, this is the best cat café in Newcastle. The cats are well-behaved, well-cared for, and the tea is delicious. The only downside for me is that the interior feels a bit too bare—not very cozy and lacking in enrichment for the cats.

Absolutely loved this place. You've got to be a cat lover to enjoy it, though. It cost £7 to enter, and all proceeds go to the upkeep of the cats. You get an hour with them. You must book in advance. My only concern was the kids chasing the cats about which upset me a little, but other than that, I absolutely enjoyed it. I fell in love with their beautiful Main Coon called Pumpkin. We ordered 2 x ham and cheese toasty and 2 x lemon muffins plus 2 x lattes, which came to £29. I would highly recommend this place to all cat lovers.
Karen C — Google review
We found this to be good fun. The cats clearly like the staff and are well looked after. The cats are very friendly and just do what they like which was nice, one of them likes to jump on your shoulders to say hi, which of course adds to the experience.
David C — Google review
Gorgeous establishment, the cats are beautiful and we had a great time, the only downsides for me was the smell of pet urine which I know the cats will probably spot here and there but I did find it quite strong, the cats also have a lot of fleas I noticed which again can be a common problem but should be managed. The maine coon as majestic and stunning as he is, is covered in fleas bless him. Concerning if you are going home to pets they could cling on to you and pass over. Also the general cleanliness feels like it is lacking, the cats can walk all over the tables etc where others then eat and drink and I just find it slightly off putting. Other than that the vibe, music, staff, everything was great. Just a few minor points 😊

Located in Gateshead, the Shipley Art Gallery is a Grade 2 listed Edwardian building that houses an impressive collection of Dutch, Flemish, and Victorian art alongside contemporary British craft and design items. The gallery was founded thanks to the generous bequest of Joseph Shipley, a prominent art collector and solicitor from Gateshead. Visitors can look forward to exploring its diverse range of artworks and exhibitions. Additionally, the gallery hosts events such as the Family Art Festival during Easter holidays.
This lovely Art Gallery in Gateshead is a great place to visit as, not only does it house a lot of very interesting paintings, but it also has a significant collection of glass and ceramic ware in addition to the Saltwell Museum collection. My personal preference is for the glasswork and ceramics but I also loved the silver. Back in the Saltwell room there was a continuous stream of archive footage of the area including images from a VE Day long gone. The lady on Reception was very friendly and helpful; I would certainly like to visit again when I am back in the area.

As a local north east museum, it is not bad. I like their portrait art or just any with humen in it, not many nature art capture my eyes, expect the Flemish parrot arts. Their collection of eggs and antlers from the left room are way more interesting. I think it was in the left or right room, there were some mini tile collections are quite impressive. They also sale some V& A products which is surprising. The only thing I don’t like is some tables and chairs that’s the in main halls and in the right room. I think when they don’t have event, they can put it away, so people have more space to walk around. However, it appears they have very few staff so maybe that’s why they just left. Overall, it’s a nice place to spend an hour at. Wonder how their event is, but you have to contact them directly ask for the details of events.

The Angel of the North is a monumental steel sculpture located in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Designed by artist Antony Gormley, this iconic piece of public art has become a symbol of northern England since its unveiling in 1998. Standing at 20 meters tall with a wingspan of 54 meters, the Angel dominates the landscape near the A1 highway.
I didn't know what to expect from this iconic piece of art, it was amazing! It's brutality of angular design against the soft tranquility of nature was profound. There was a peace that surrounded the tall, striking edifice standing so high above the land, it was hard not to just stand and stare, enjoying the tranquility. Plenty of parking and just a short walk, make the effort to stand in awe at this modern wonder
Tony P — Google review
An iconic statue in the UK which is quite nice to look at close, rather than just from the A1 as you travel past. It was good to enjoy a walk around it with the family and take in its share size. There is a small car park at the site which if full, a space will come up shortly as there are a lot of people coming and going all the time. I didn't see any toilets. Well worth a stop have an ice cream or coffee from the businesses there and take in the sight.
Adam B — Google review
I really enjoyed seeing this. The engineering that went into fabricating something this big I find fascinating. It's literally on a mound on It's own and you can see the top of it as you come off the motorway. The information board is worth a read. The person that wrote it put some good facts. There is a car park right next to it which is free and we had no struggles parking. If you enjoy art and big sculptures this is definitely worth a visit.
Karl V — Google review
Angel of the North – A Monumental Pause Worth Taking Standing sentinel over Gateshead, the Angel of the North is more than just a sculpture—it’s a moment of stillness in motion. Towering at 20 meters high with a wingspan that rivals a jumbo jet, this rust-hued giant commands attention from the A1, yet invites quiet reflection up close. I visited on a crisp morning, and despite its proximity to the motorway, the site felt surprisingly serene. The free parking and open-access grounds make it an easy detour, whether you’re en route to Durham or exploring the North East. There’s a gentle slope leading to the statue, and a small memorial garden tucked below—unexpected and deeply moving, with handwritten notes that hint at personal pilgrimages and quiet grief. The Angel itself is arresting. Stark, industrial, and oddly graceful, it evokes both strength and vulnerability. Designed by Antony Gormley, it’s meant to embody transition and human connection—and it does, especially when viewed against the shifting skies. • Location: Just off the A167, near Gateshead. • Cost: Completely free, including parking. • Best Time to Visit: Early morning or golden hour for dramatic light and fewer crowds. • Extras: Often an ice cream van on site, and plenty of space for a picnic. Whether you’re a fan of modern art or simply seeking a pause in your journey, the Angel of the North offers a rare blend of accessibility and emotional depth. It’s not just a landmark—it’s a quiet witness to countless stories.

Erected in remembrance of the miners in the North East. Located just off the A1M just south of Newcastle. Parking available, plenty for disabled. Nice and peaceful, a few visitors and dog walkers about. Managed to fly my drone (see videos attached) worth a visit if in the area.

We've passed this sculpture a lot over the years and always been in 2 minds if we like it or not. So we took a quick pit stop to get a closer look. Worth a visit if you've got 10 minutes to kill. Car parking is free!

Pizza restaurant
Pizza Punks Newcastle, located on Grey Street in the heart of Newcastle City Centre, is a non-conformist pizza joint that has gained popularity since its opening in September 2018. With additional sites across the country, this punky eatery offers customers the opportunity to craft their own sourdough pizzas with a variety of unlimited toppings.
Excellent pizzas at Pizza Punks after a trip to the Theatre Royal with my daughter. She went for mushroom and sweetcorn (could do unlimited toppings for £13.95 but she just wanted the two!). I had prosciutto with mushrooms, Parmesan and balsamic. Perfectly cooked and served super quickly by friendly, helpful staff. 2 pizzas, 2 large soft drinks plus 10% tip- £34.00. Would definitely go again :-)

Alex was a fantastic member of staff, ensuring we had ample cocktails in bottomless brunch and made the experience worth it. Thank you Alex for your fantastic service! We really appreciate you!

I recently visited Pizza Punks and had a mixed experience. The pizza is cooked to perfection in their wooden fired oven, and ingredients are fresh. However, I found the crust to be a bit too thin. Lively and fun place. Great for a quick meal without expectations. The dessert list is limited, with options like cream gelato. Good choice for a casual, no frills dining experience

The vegan option we had (the plantbased meatball marinara) was delicious! Our waitress Tasha was very friendly and accommodating. They also gave us a drink at no extra charge for my wifes birthday, which was very much appreciated. Would definitely recommend and will be back again in future.

I got recommended Pizza Punks from a colleague, I finally got round to going, I was not disappointed, from the moment we stepped through the door we we're made to feel welcome, they offer an amazing selection of drinks and the combination's you can do with the pizza's without being charged extra for the toppings is fantastic value for money, they taste way better then the well known pizza chains and the service is extremely friendly, a huge credit to the manager of this establishment and the staff it's refreshing to feel relaxed and not rushed when your dining.

It is a great building, there's view accross the river Tyne & the Millenium Bridge & the Baltic. Then you enter the venue where the music will be played & that looks fantastic. In come the orchestra, because I went there to listen to the music of Star Wars over the nine films, some were in "costume" Princess Leia, Chewbakka & the conductor with a Darth Vader mask. The ensemble the Royal Northern Sinfonia was really good, the accoustics fabulous & I had a really nice evening with the music of John Williams.

Great venue. Good to be able to stand up - a few rows of front stalls were removed. Hadn't seen this here before. Made for a better gig Father John Misty was superb.

I had never been here before. Always meant to come but then JADE was on and I obviously had to go as quickly as possible. I like the space. It’s great for music and worked well with the standing. Good views and amazing sound. Toilets aren’t the best but they’re are functional. It’s a great venue though.

A lovely venue. We had a drink before the show, plenty of space to stand/sit and chat. Staff were friendly. Needed to check bags in larger than A4 size which a kind staff member told us before we climbed steps to level 3 but we're otherwise unaware. Very clean and good seating area.

Saw Adam Ant at the Glasshouse recently...what a venue!!! The venue staff are amazing, really welcoming, everyone smiled at us, the auditorium area is fantastic the acoustic's are brilliant, the area is accessible in wheelchairs, the staff I noticed where incredibly helpful with patrons in wheelchairs allowing them to store the chair out the auditorium if they want to. It's easy to get to within the city & plenty of parking around the venue. All in all I'd love to come back soon! Thanks for helping to make a memorable evening ☺️

This is a review for joining as an access member online. A lady called Rebecca was brilliant in helping me. Im currently out of area in Manchester but there is a gig coming up although next year I didnt want to miss out. As the tickets are on sale Friday but the application can take upto 10 days! I sent the application electronically as it does say you can do it in person but thats not an option for me. I also attached a note explaining that I am wanting to specifically get tickets for the upcoming sale in 3 days and asked for help or advice on the best way to do it as an access person. Anyway Rebecca had my application sorted within the hour! Which is amazing. Obviously Im not saying they can do that all the time, as it must depend what they have going on and how many applications. I did send extra information which might of helped as I am on other schemes. However I wanted to leave a positive review for someone who I feel has gone above and beyond and got it sorted for me so quickly. This means hopefully now I can get tickets for the show I really want to see which is fantastic, so I can get excited now. Its brilliant when a venue are so helpful and make it easy for you as unfortunately some places dont. Rebecca also sent me useful information in her return email with how to book online or ring for tickets so Im ready to go. Thanks Rebecca and thanks Glasshouse international I look forward to the show and visiting the Venue next year.

Saltwell Park, located in Gateshead, is a 55-acre Victorian park known for its stunning gardens, woods, and boating lake. It has received numerous accolades including Britain's Best Park and Green Flag awards. The park offers various amenities such as play areas, a maze, pets' corner, walking and jogging routes, as well as sports facilities like bowling greens and tennis courts.
This is a beautiful park where we always have a fantastic time. My kids love playing football and other games, and we usually visit on weekends. Each time we come, there are new activities that surprise us, adding to the charm of this lovely place. My children especially enjoy exploring the maze and spending time around Saltwell Towers. The variety of flowers and tree species is stunning—it's truly a paradise for both kids and their guardians to have fun and enjoy the day. The café is a nice spot to relax, and the staff are incredibly kind and helpful, often going above and beyond for visitors. My kids especially love the ice cream, and we always enjoy having a picnic here.

A hidden gem! I'm from the North East and found this park recently. It's so lovely. There are several entrances if you are on foot. The car park is near the garden nursery. There is a mini Tyne Bridge display, a maze! a bird house with peacocks and parrots. I think I spotted a band stand too. There is a lake with plenty of ducks, geese and unusual birds. There is a useful board to illustrate the different birds. It's well worth a visit.

The nicest park in the Newcastle area. Super clean and well taken care of. Loads of park segments like rose garden, Japanese garden, playgrounds, etc etc...love this park. Easy hiking level. Paved trails.

What a great park! It’s huge and has so many lovely areas: a huge lake, rose gardens, bandstand, sculptures, war memorials, a maze…! Lots of benches too. I spent a long time exploring and I’m sure I probably missed lots more. There were quite a few people of all ages visiting when I was there but it never felt crowded. Very popular with dog walkers, joggers and young families. The impressive building in the centre is now a cafe as the museum collection has been moved to Shipley Museum not far away.

Cat cafe
Mog on the Tyne is Newcastle's first cat cafe, located on one of the oldest streets in the city. It offers a tranquil space away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, where visitors can spend time with a family of rescue cats. The cafe serves locally sourced food including gourmet sandwiches, cakes, and a variety of hot and cold drinks. The menu also includes vegan options.
My niece wanted to come to Mog on the Tyne with me whilst I was visiting over Christmas, so I booked online and stocked up on antihistamines! The booking process was easy and all the information I needed was provided. I was sent a few reminders of my booking details, which was nice. On the day we arrived at our time slot and were able to go straight inside. The staff were super friendly and approachable. The cats were so cute and seemed really healthy and at ease. It was definitely very clean too, as my allergies didn‘t get set off at all! The food and drinks were really nice and there was a nice selection of merch to buy too. We had a lovely time! We did have to fend the cats off because they wanted the cream from the hot chocolate, and did get a few scratches so I would just advise caution there, but that’s something I think you have to take into account. We‘ll definitely be coming back :)

Overall everything was excellent, would highly recommend visiting <3

Visited today with my 9 year old daughter and we had such an amazing time here. The cats were all so friendly and I think my daughter a i both fell in love with 6month old Peter. He was so cute and kept pinching our chairs. We both had a brownie with was delicious and a hot chocolate and coffee. The staff were so friendly and answered lots of questions and the I could tell the cats are we looked after and loved!! We will definitely be back as my daughter said it’s the best afternoon she’s ever had.

Nice little place to relax and watch the cats .Most are really friendly, but dont like being handled, you cant pick them up you have to let them jump up on you You can get to stroke them, but it was the end of the day when we went, so probably a bit fed up with people. The food was nice, staff friendly they answer any questions you have. If you're a cat lover, i would recommend a visit .

Nestled on Westgate Road, the Tyne Theatre & Opera House is a stunning Victorian gem that has been captivating audiences for 150 years. This historic venue not only showcases an array of music, comedy, and family shows but also boasts a charming bistro bar for pre-show refreshments. The Grade II-listed building features an opulent auditorium and is home to what many believe to be the UK's sole operational Victorian wooden stage machinery and trap door system.
Visited the Tyne Theatre and Opera house back in January to watch the London Symphonic Rock Orchestra. As we weren't from the area, we had no idea what to expect other than seeing photos online. The theatre is a beautiful traditional theatre with stunning architecture that I could look at all day. We had front row seats that had plenty of leg room which, given my outfit, was greatly needed!! I normally struggle with seats in old theatres being very narrow and digging into my hips but I didn't have any problems and comfortably jammed along to LSRO all night. Biggest shout out is to the staff who were there that night. Having eloped that day we were still in our wedding outfits which made certain things (like using the toilet on your own) difficult. We spoke to the manager for the evening's event, whose name I wish I could remember, and she helped us find the facilities and our seats before surprising us with some drinks and a programme on the house. She made us feel so welcome and was a huge factor in our rating above. I'd recommend coming here to watch gigs and shows, even if you're not big on architecture, the staff and atmosphere alone will have you coming back again and again!

The guided tours are excellent. The volunteer guides are friendly and knowledgable and you get to see the backstage areas and dressing rooms in addition to the auditorium. Nestled at the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall, Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Britain's Roman past. Established around AD 125, this site features the remains of a significant fort and the original wall itself, making it an essential stop for history enthusiasts. Visitors can start their journey by ascending the 35-metre viewing tower for panoramic views of both the fort and its surroundings.
Easily reachable by Metro (get off at Wallsend). The museum was under renovation from the outside and part of the upper floor exhibition was under construction when I visited, but the museum kindly only charged half price. You can get the tickets at the counter with no problem and the museum was not crowded at all when I visited during the week, so you have lots of time to see everything. The accessible part of the museum is very beautifully designed and you feel like you've been teleported back to Roman times. Once you have a ticket you can access the ruins of the Segedunum Fort and the end of Hadrian's Wall just across the street. For roughly 3,50 pounds that was definitely worth a visit!
Ahmad S — Google review
Neat museum that's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in Hadrian's Wall. Entry tickets are discounted as of writing this review, I think it was just under £4 (you can buy at the museum). It's easy to get to, only a ~3-minute walk from the Wallsend metro station. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and there was only one other small group that showed up after me so it's quite relaxed. There were an informative gallery about the site and surrounding area's history and a viewing platform for the site, and you can also walk on the site itself. Just across the road, there's a separate section of the site where there's an actual section of the wall alongside a recreation you can go up on. Unfortunately, it seemed like some of the side galleries and the Roman bathhouse recreation were closed during my visit, not sure when those will be re-opened.

Visited on a free English Heritage day and glad we did! So much to see and learn about, very well laid out with a map to guide you. Loads to buy in the gift shop as keepsakes or gifts and friendly staff on hand
Travel W — Google review
In general it’s a nice place to visit. We walked the wall from Bowness on Solway to Segedunum so we were going to stop here anyway. Be advised that this isn’t part of English Heritage, so your pass won’t work here…it’s separate.
ChrisBig 1 — Google review
Three main themes: the viewing tower with a birds eye view of the fort (plus video reconstruction), access to the remains at ground level then under cover explanations and exhibits explaining what you have seen (plus a gift shop!!). Targeted at youngsters with 'touch it/build it/dress up' features and adult explanations. A family well crafted experience.
Leonard K — Google review
A pretty shocking lack of engagement with colonialism in the history exhibits, even where it is explicitly alluded to. The Roman stuff was great though, well presented with lots of cool finds tucked away in the cabinets. Appreciated all the engagement activities too!
Louisa D — Google review
The exhibition on the ground floor is amazing and i lost myself in it for far longer than i had planed too. There's aspects of the exhibition that I imagine would be interesting for every age group and the text to object ratio is very good, I felt like it was just enough without being overwhelming. The shop also has a good amount of books relevant to the exhibitions

Guests can observe prime cuts of British rare-breed meat and sustainable fish being cooked over coals.
- Great beers. Amazing views. Cool vibe. Log cabin feel. - Well cooked meat. Good Sunday roast. Well priced too. - Starters and small plates are disappointing - The roast pigs head was an experience but wouldn't have it again. - The 1kg prime rib was better the first time. The smoked marrow is lovely. It's a nice restaurant and high on the list if you're looking to impress.

I had high hopes as this restaurant is highly recommended so it could just be a personal view and not the majority, the toilets were outside and it was cold, the food was nice but not amazing apart from the steak as that was excellent, staff were lovely, location Is a bit odd too, I would be wary if I was on my own. The company was fantastic though, always good to catch up.
Stacey B — Google review
The food is amazing... good menu, well explained and well cooked. The Feasting shared meals should be experienced. The fish of the day was trout with crab & caviar butter/sauce - delicious! The steak with bone marrow was also very flavorsome. The Feasting dishes are big, particularly the fish; comfortable sharable between 3, or 4 smaller eaters. The staff didn't mention this and we ended with too many starters and almost 1/2 the fish was left which we would take out but they didn't have bags (only boxes) therefore couldn't take to our next stop. What a real shame that was. The wine list was short but a few goodies at reasonable prices. The staff were attentive but didn't know how to read the customers, and kept interrupting to take orders, direct questions, etc... other than that good service. Toilets are shared with other venues and on Saturday night when we went, the ladies' was in a poor state. When informed the staff took the feedback well and attended to it quickly. I haven't been to many places in NCL but would agree with those whose say one of the best places in town.

Been 2 years since here last, still on point, well cooked, inventive and nourishing food. The steak sharing platter is well worth it for a treat, super well seasoned, this might put some off, but I love plenty sodium so suited me. Worth noting staff were great- attentive but not intrusive, friendly with some advice when asked about dishes, thanks guys.
BROON B — Google review
The food at Traköl was delicious - fresh, high quality ingredients, and melt in your mouth flavours. The beetroot, rhubarb and pumpkin seed veggie dish was the unsung hero, what an unexpected delight! We ordered the lamb and sirloin steak for mains which were cooked perfectly but were very rich and could’ve used something to balance that out. I was hoping to find a chocolate dessert on the menu but sadly not there, and they were out of the goats curd ice cream so we skipped on dessert, maybe another time! All in all, I would definitely recommend going here, the food was great! I think was expecting just that little bit more from them to give it 5 stars as I’d heard amazing things from others.
Gabe F — Google review
Fantastic restaurant, we were sat right next to the kitchen which was fascinating to watch, advised of my partner's dairy allergy on booking many months ago and they remembered this, mentioned it to us directly after seating us & generally catered exceptionally for my partner throughout the evening, can't speak highly enough of the service we received, and that's all before even mentioning the food. We went for the beef feasting course, it was exceptional. Will return many times I'm sure.

Fabulous experience from the start. Friendly staff, fabulous location under the iconic Tyne Bridge, outside seating for a pre dinner drink by the river. Starters more a sharing plate - pigs tail unusual but tasty. Rib of beef main at £85 for 3 to share was great value and absolutely excellent. Margaret River wine v good too. Highly recommended.

What a beautiful and holy space. Attended Sunday morning mass here when staying in the area and was deeply moved by the sacred atmosphere as I entered the cathedral. I hope to visit again when I'm in Newcastle again and would love to spend some quiet time here in prayer and reflection. A genuinely powerful place to be close to God, whether attending Mass or just to visit. Highly recommend, whether you're a person or faith or not. It'll be good for your soul ❤️😁

Very beautiful building, you can enter times outside of worship to admire the place itself as I did. It has some history in the entrance too which was nice to read. Very calm

First time visit. Daily Mass. Cafe attached to church for after Mass food and drink. Suggest reserving table before Mass. Called Cloistered Cafe.

It's a beautiful stained glass Catholic church. I go Sunday for the beautiful mass. The choir is amazing and the time spent here can be surreal. It has a cafe , St Paul's shop and restroom.

I hadn't intended to visit this place at all today. But in passing bye, it caught my eye, and I'm very glad I went inside. The place has an interesting history being built in 1842 from funds raised by halfpenny donations from the poor Tyneside community of immigrants. It opened for worship in 1844. Whether you are religious or not, this place is a little sanctuary of peace and tranquility from the bustling city outside. Many people come here to just sit and pray in silence, others just to contemplate on life in general. The elderly volunteers that greet you are lovely. Information boards at the entrance provide a chronological history of significant events since this Church's foundation, and you can also pick up a leaflet with the plan of the interior and the key features. I give this 5 stars for the friendly volunteers and very peaceful ambiance.

The Catholic Mass was packed with attendees at 11:30, recommended.

Fair play,I respect what they are doing here. Raising money, repurposing the space with a classy respectful feel for a candlelight performance

The WonderBar in Newcastle is a plush and sports-friendly lounge club with velour seating and VIP booths, making it the ultimate spot to hang out and catch live sports on TV. It's known for its fantastic food and drink offerings, including flavorful chicken wings seasoned to perfection. The bar also stands out for offering interactive darts, making it the only one in the city with this feature. In addition to sports, patrons can enjoy live music every night of the week.
This was our first visit and we will definitely be back, the food was great and really reasonably priced and a nice little touch was that all the cutlery was sealed in its own little pouch. We ate the Mac n Cheese and the Hot Shot Parmo and a kebab toasties and we loved it all. There were a few people getting burgers and hanging kebabs and they all looked really good too
David C — Google review
Very lively bar even at 5 o’clock, well downstairs was busy, upstairs was empty. Looks like a good starting off place for stag/hen parties. We played darts, which was good but the technology was a little bit unreliable around the edges, missing darts and scores. Very friendly staff. There was a chap on the piano blasting out songs so it was very noisy in there. Good selection of beers too. Yep it was ok.
Hammo19 — Google review
Ordered haddock, chips and mush peas. The batter on the fish was lovely and golden and crispy. The fish itself was very slimy with not a lot of taste and the skin was as tough as leather. The chips and peas were decent enough.
Kevin S — Google review
Popped in for a quick cocktail during the cocktail week event. Lovely drink and great service. Also joined in with the music bingo which was super reasonably priced at only £1 a sheet and was fun and something different to do whilst there.
Sophie — Google review
Popped in to watch the end of the footy. Minimal atmosphere downstairs, but it was a home game. Looks like the students were arriving as we were leaving
Samuel E — Google review
Darts was okay even thought the dart boards are all damaged. Despite being extremely quiet the bar team showed clear frustration at having to make drinks. The kitchen was again incredibly quiet and food took around an hour to come out (this was for loaded fries and a grilled cheese sandwhich) staff could also be seen on phones in the kitchen despite the long wait times

Great day out playing darts. Great grub. Great central pub in the city
Jamie R — Google review
Very fun for interactive darts, reasonably priced split between a group of friends for an hour. Weirdly very loud for a pretty empty Friday night, the music didn't need to be as loud as it was, it was difficult to have a conversation.

Additionally, Golf Fang Newcastle provides an eccentric 18-hole golf course along with street food and refreshing summer drinks for unforgettable parties of up to 200 guests.
This was a superb venue for bowling, with a nicely black and white patterned counter! The staff checked us in promptly and shoes being shown is a stylish touch, particularly topped with trophies. Lanes are brilliantly styled with street art all over at the first ever Lane7 and plenty of bowls are available, can of Red Stripe helped enhance the experience!

Great place for a date night. My partner and I came here for some fun and drinks. It was quite empty so we were able to do the bowling and then switch to pool. The music was really good, they had a DJ and I loved the decor. Drinks were quick and reasonably priced. They have batting cages, bowling, pool, beer pong and an arcade. There is probably more... Would recommend and would return.

Nestled in the heart of Newcastle, Town Moor is a sprawling expanse of lush greenery that offers a delightful escape from the urban hustle. This historic site not only features grazing cattle but also serves as a vibrant venue for various sporting and recreational events throughout the year. For history enthusiasts, nearby attractions like the Victoria Tunnel provide fascinating insights into 19th-century coal transport, while Saint Paul's Church in Jarrow stands as a testament to over 1300 years of Christian worship.
The Town Moor is my absolute favourite escape in the city—lush, open and perfectly peaceful. It’s a great spot for a picnic, a wander in the sun, or watching the bairns fly their kites. It feels like a world away, even though it’s right in the middle of Newcastle.

⭐️ Town Moor & Exhibition Park – A Must-Visit Urban Haven! Nestled just minutes from Newcastle city centre, Town Moor and the adjacent Exhibition Park form one of the UK’s most expansive and versatile green spaces — over 1,000 acres, larger even than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined . It’s truly the city’s green heart.

Mr Mulligans Newcastle is not your typical golf venue. It offers a space-themed adventure golf experience with three nine-hole courses suitable for all ages. The venue also features electro-darts, ping pong, and a restaurant and bar area. Despite additional charges for activities like air hockey, it provides plenty of entertainment options for everyone. The staff is praised for their excellent service, and the food and cocktails are highly recommended.
This was an out of this world venue for golfing, quite literally due to the space themed course! This course goes across craters filled with holes and bright lights, running through obstacles like space suits crates and a digital system. Course also features launch points to boost and curves both up or downwards, different light colours across rooms is very inventive! Check in was easy with the friendly staff who looked after my friend's bag during our game, scorecards are provided kindly by these people too.
K. P — Google review
Not your normal review but here we go! We visited Mr Mulligans back in January 2025, on a spur of the moment following our elopement earlier that morning and we're just wandering around the city centre. Firstly the staff (who I wish we took their names!) greeted us warmly, totally took care of us and were super sweet by giving us 2 glasses of prosecco to celebrate. They made our experience 10xs better. The mini golf was really fun and interactive and despite the hindrance of a wedding dress it was a great laugh. We thoroughly enjoyed the arcade area as well and got some photos in the photo booth to capture the moment that I'll be telling people about for years to come. If you're in the area, have an occasion to celebrate or generally just want to chill and hang out this place is for you!

This afternoon whilst waiting on my cars repairs I went and completed the mini golf at Mr Mulligans Space Golf. When I arrived, they had a spin to win a game of winning a game of golf. And I won one! So got to play their crazy golf of 27 holes for free! It's a fun space Golf from the world of inventors to cosmic meteors to lunar crash with a Spaceman. Great for both adults and kids.
Matthew T — Google review
The course itself: Overall slightly above average in terms of the creativity of the holes, with some stand-out holes with interesting routes, as well as some rather basic ones. Lighting and decoration: A couple of spots had pretty egregious strobe lighting. Some of the uneven floors were difficult to see due to the surrpunding dim lighting. Plenty of creative set design, with a good few solid photo spots, although some of these suffered from poor lighting. Lockers: Comically under-maintained, many missing keys, and some jamming themselves shut due to warped frames. They were labelled only by irregularly scraped-in numbers which were difficult to see in the dark.
Aquadose — Google review
Staff are excellent, I made a mistake booking and it was sorted no problem. It's not a cheap day/night out in my opinion, extras such as air hockey are charged extra via tokens but there is plenty to keep everyone entertained and the golf is an ideal fun activity for all ages with decent mobility. Pizzas are also decent, cheaper buying in advance when booking. Handy for haymarket bus station. Website enquiry dealt with promptly and follow up phone call. Can't fault customer services at all.

We had an amazing time at Mulligans for bottomless brunch and mini golf. The drink selection was great, and the service was outstanding. Our host, Johnny, went above and beyond to make sure we were having a great time. He was friendly and incredibly helpful. Highly recommend!

Booked over the phone for the bottomless brunch had no issues whatsoever the bottomless bruch itself included a main meal for me and my husband unlimited selected drinks for 90 mins and 3 courses of mini golf all for £28 each. Abbie (lovely girl) looked after us the entire time we were there made us feel like v.i.ps would fully recommend this venue to everyone !

an indoor futuristic themed miniature golf course with three seperate 9 hole courses. We played two, it was a little busy and the first course was a bit tight for space, the holes are pretty short too but we had fun none the less. The decor and sound effects were good and the boy seemed to enjoy himself so result there. There's a bar and restaurant with a separate area for parties. We had burgers which were pretty nice, the coffee was good too. The boy had chicken gougons which he wasn't really fussed about but I thought they were really good. All fairly reasonably priced too.

Very good room! My team of 3 did the prison escape room, it was very challenging, and it took us the whole time given to escape, but the puzzles were fairly easy to solve, and we were given assistance if needed. Our host Oana was very friendly, and excellent playing the warden in the room. Overall great experience, and suitable for younger people!

Went for 1st time and did the Arcade quest. Good fun working out the puzzles to open combination locks. Got some help on a screen when we seemed stuck.. You get 1 hr which I thought was more than enough, but turned out our time ran out just before we finished. The girl in charge of us let us play on to finish. We went on Monday pm so don't know what would of happened on a busy weekend. Group of 4 = £24 each. (June 2025) BE AWARE. YOU GET LOCKED IN ROOM FOR THE WHOLE HOUR. SO IF YOU FILL YOURSELF FULL OF DRINK BEFORE GOING IN AND YOU HAVE A WEAK BLADDER...GOOD LUCK. LOL

When we walked in, reception was unmanned at first. When a member of staff came to see us, they asked if we'd booked and I told them we hadn't. They said that was fine and we decided to play all 3 courses. When I went to pay, I was told there was an "online booking fee". I said I hadn't booked but apparently that's the only way to do it so we had no choice but to pay. The cocktails were nice and you can take them around with you as you play. Although there are 3 courses, they're quite small and don't take long to finish. It filled a bit of spare time we had during our visit but I wouldn't go back.

Not over exaggerating with the rating, we came down for a family event for 4, we booked it for 5pm and the staff phoned in advance due to an availability because someone cancelled at 4pm so we stayed longer. The food was standard with quick service, and staff came couple of time asked if we needed anything else and if everything was aright. Will definitely come again with a few friends. Thanks for the good experience guys had a good laugh.

My son and I took advantage of the discounted rates available on a Wednesday night as it was our first visit and we wanted to see if it was much fun as we had been led to believe. What can I say? Word of mouth recommendations win again! We had a great time!! The two hours that we spent enjoying ourselves absolutely flew by and the two player game where you have join forces in order to fight off hoardes of zombies was tremendous. We would recommend hiring the machine guns that are available at additional cost for that game alone.

We are returning customers to point blank and the customer service is beyond amazing, there was a problem with our screen at the start of our booking which was dealt with promptly. Lovely friendly staff, tried food for the first time today and WOW could not fault! Thank you! Could not recommend more! :))

I had recently been here with my colleagues and I can confirm that the food they serve is horrible. They have a very few options available and that too they prepare. We had limited options of bottomless drinks and even after trying 4 different alcoholic drinks, I couldn't feel the liquor in it. I had ordered Cauliflower bites and they were very much under cooked, I could taste the raw batter, also the portion was very less. The shooting games were good, especially when you are with your friends and colleagues. The guns lack in recoil/force feedback, which is the biggest drawback. If they add a small feedback motor then the experience will be quite immersive. I went here for an event, but will never go again, even if it's sponsored.
Ritesh G — Google review
Booked at peak times on a Saturday which meant it was a bit pricey however we had a two hour slot and costs were split between our group which made it not to bad. Lots of games/scenarios to choose from and also a few different guns to shoot. Decent selection of cocktails and we had a few pizzas on our table to share which were delicious. A great few hours if you’re in a group of friends who just want to have fun and shoot at targets. The communication when booking was also fantastic, very informative and a great help.

The City Baths, Newcastle is a top-notch lifestyle venue that provides a range of facilities for fitness enthusiasts and leisure seekers. The swimming sessions cater to adults of all levels, with designated lanes for fast, medium, and slow swimmers. Visitors can also enjoy the Turkish baths and sauna for relaxation. Situated in the vibrant city of Newcastle, this complex offers various aquatic activities and fitness amenities including a gym and exercise classes.
Booked online for a lane swim using the Fusion app - easy enough, although at £9 for an hour with the option to use the sauna, this is a fairly premium price. Nevertheless, it's worth it for the experience of swimming in this historic pool. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, showing us the way to the changing rooms. Changing rooms were modern, clean, and plenty of cubicles. Lockers are £1 (refundable). The pool was lush - good temperature, clean & attentive lifeguard. The session wasn't busy - I think about 6 others in the pool, so a nice, relaxing lane swim, with a super-wide slow lane. Bliss! Hot showers, but only a limited number of toilets. The price of the swim + city centre parking makes this an occasional treat, but definitely worth it!

This has been a terrible experience — I feel completely misled. I joined this gym through a referral from my friend. Before signing up, the staff clearly told us that we would both receive one month of free membership as part of the referral program. However, after joining, they completely denied the existence of the promotion — even though the poster advertising it was still up on the wall. This is completely dishonest. On top of that, I was told I had the free personal training sessions, but when I tried to book this, I was refused and told I had to wait one month between sessions. This was never mentioned when I signed up, and it feels like they’re deliberately withholding information to make things difficult. To make matters worse, booking a PT session is unnecessarily complicated. You can only book via email, and I was told it would take two business days just to receive a response — this is simply not practical for anyone trying to plan a consistent workout schedule. And classes are frequently cancelled at the last minute, forcing me to rearrange my schedule with no notice. It’s incredibly frustrating and shows a total lack of consideration for members’ time. Overall, this place feels like a scam with poor communication, misleading promises, and terrible service. I strongly advise anyone considering joining to double-check everything in writing and be very cautious.
Luvian — Google review
I've been going for a week and think the service has been really good. The staff have all been lovely, there's a variety of classes, and beautiful architectural design- particularly the exterior, the foyer and the pool room. It's definitely a smaller gym than my last but plenty of equipment and I've been at different times and it's never been annoyingly busy so far. I'm actually enjoying it much more than my old gym. Other members have also been friendly and courteous which contributes to the nice community environment. The price is very reasonable compared to other places I've been before. It would be nice if they could stay open later on the weekends but it's understandable due to a smaller team. I've not tried any of the Turkish baths or steam rooms (I hate being hot) so I have no idea what they're like and therefore won't comment on these amenities.
Hadassah M — Google review
As a member, I use the Turkish Baths , gym and classes several times a week. The Spa and Turkish Baths staff Saba and Abbie are extremely professional, friendly, approachable and helpful. I've also had treatments with Areesha and Amber who were equally professional and helpful. The treatments are very relaxing and good value for money. The Turkish Baths area is a beautiful, renovated , relaxing and authentic building. The gym and pool staff are also very helpful. The Personal Trainer Francis, who did my gym induction and put my exercise program together , was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It's a great city central location and the varied memberships on offer are fantastic value for money.

I’ve been a member for nearly a year now, mainly because it’s close to work. The gym itself is decent — plenty of free weights, enough benches, and a moderate number of machines. There are also plenty of pull-up bars, which I like. It’s not the most equipped gym (no Smith machines, for example), but it’s good enough for my training. Staff are always around and seem friendly. The sauna is honestly the main reason I stay — if it wasn’t for that, I probably wouldn’t be here. The gym floor is never crowded, which is a huge plus compared to most city-centre gyms. The sauna, though, can get busy at certain times, especially evenings and weekends. A few things could be improved: • The water fountains are poor — barely any pressure, takes ages to fill a bottle. Not a huge issue, but still annoying. •. The changing rooms can smell pretty bad at times — a mix of warm urine, faeces, and strong cleaning chemicals. It’s improved recently, but still unpleasant some days. • Broken equipment takes too long to get fixed. One of the cable machines has been out of order for weeks now, and one time the cold plunge bucket was out of order for a month plus. • The weekend hours are too short. The gym and sauna close early on Saturdays and Sundays, which is frustrating if you work weekends and want to use the sauna after your shift. I pay £47/month for a corporate membership, which gives access to all Fusion gyms across the country. Honestly, I’m mainly paying for the location, the sauna, the pool, and the fact it’s not crowded. If another gym nearby offered those same perks, I’d switch in a heartbeat.

I have been using the City Baths Gym for a few years. Modern gym with great equipment. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The one person that stands out to me is Erin. When I’m there 6.30. in the morning she constantly keeps herself busy tidying the gym, always happy “ Singing along” to the music and happy. Just what you need to start the day. :))

I was excited to come here, but was very disappointed. Whilst the staff upstairs were really helpful and lovely, once you got downstairs, there was absolutely no-one. There was a desk where there were supposed to be staff but none. I wasn't exactly sure how it all worked, so had to figure it all out, and then ask people who were in there. From what I'd seen about Turkish baths, these did not resemble them at all. There were hot rooms, one steam room and some showers, which actually wasn't that warm at all. The "Turkish tea" was like a peppermint teabag had been waved over the top. Overall a complete waste of money for me on what I had hoped to be a very chilled experience.
Alyson W — Google review
This gym started off so well but has become worse and worse over the years, the room with the climbing frame no longer had the climbing frame despite there’s still room for it. Also keep in mind this is a premium gym (expensive) and the speakers play adds because they don’t pay for the premium spotify. They used to have loads of punch bags of different types now they only have 1 and it’s not a long or heavy bag. The original manager was fantastic but since he left this place just gets worse and worse… at this point the gym group are better and also a third of the cost…

Had a blast at the Christmas show. Friendly staff good service, very entertaining show.
Andrew S — Google review
I was a regular here, from the day it opened. The whole set up, from production, the venue, the staff, Danni Dee and of course, Miss Rory are superb. I was a bit of a drinker back then and would probably be half cut by the second half. I stopped going for a few years due to some anxiety and mental health stuff and I bloody missed the happy vibes. Anyway, I’m now almost 3 years sober and I’ve been back twice recently and have to say it’s just as good as before, if not better! I probably appreciate the dancing, the production and the comedy even more now, being sober. Miss Rory does a nice welcome, explaining this is a happy place and somewhere to leave all the worries and troubles of the world outside… so true! It’s my favourite night out in Newcastle and looking forward to seeing the summer show. Thanks for still being here ❤️

Such a great evening, the shows are equal parts funny and awesome. It’s well worth a visit. Loads of different seating options depending on your party size, plenty of cocktails & drink options. Some snacks you can order while you watch the show too. Miss Rory was such a great host, had the crowd in the palm of her hand all evening. Can’t wait to go back.

The menu features innovative dishes like pies and fish and chips, as well as delightful sharing boards. Monday afternoon very quiet only a few other customers at noon which was quite nice. The bar and restaurant look lovely with lots of natural light and good use of internal planting and furnishings. Staff were very attentive and professional, cannot fault at all. Food was served in good time and was absolutely delicious. Will definitely eat here again!

A really enjoyable visit to The Botanist which is such a fun and funky place. A stunning glass dome with a huge tree in the middle of the bar and very cool decor throughout. James behind the bar made the best cocktails we have tasted for a long time and Jessie in the restaurant was a brilliant waitress. Will definitely return soon and would highly recommend it.

The staff were SO nice and the setting is quite dreamy. The menu looked delicious too, the only reason I give it 4* for food is because the fries were a bit too salty for my taste. I will definitely come back if I ever come back to Newcastle 🎉

I’ve visited many times before and had a great experience, but yesterday was so appalling I believe the kitchen should be closed until they can sort out the immense amount of issues they clearly have as a restaurant. As a table of 6 we waited over half an hour for the food order to be taken, when we asked that all food come together (two starters, six mains). The starters arrived and 45mins later no mains. We spoke to a waitress to ask - 15 mins later still no one came to our table. After having to get up and ask to see the manager, she came and in her defence we could not fault her - there were clearly operational issues and she dealt with the situation well. However, when the food finally came - mixture of Sunday roasts and hanging kebabs - it was clear there was a fundamental issue. Chicken was dry and overcooked, roast potatoes swimming in oil, veg raw but burnt (how can you even do that?!) and the vegetarian gravy was beyond disgusting. Long story short, we paid for our drinks and not the food, however in total we wasted almost three hours of our Sunday evening which was meant to be a delightful start to our holiday with friends and our daughters. I truly believe the kitchen needs to close until they can cook food suitable to eat and train their new staff effectively. All in all a terrible experience and the pressure the manager is under is not appropriate. I’d highly recommend giving it a miss until they have turned themselves around.
Laura S — Google review
If you’re looking for a instagramable place, this is it. I was there today with a colleague. Loved the atmosphere. So much varieties of drinks. Compared to the ambience, the prices of the drinks are cheap. Being a Saturday evening it wasn’t very difficult to find a place to sit. But recommend to book a table prior of it’s a weekend. Loved the drinks. Will definitely visit again.

Had bottomless brunch before a show at the theatre, drinks wise it is well worth the money but does have a limited menu, food was nice just very small and again limited menu, service was really good and nice, stunning location and interior as my only photo of the tree in the middle. The best Sunday lunches in town. Terrific quality and sufficient enough quantity! Cooked to perfection. I had the pork and the crackling on it was super crispy, big cut of pork and stuffing. I opted for an extra Yorkshire pudding too. Well recommended. Best book a table for Sunday lunch. Great bar, lovely place. *Update: added Chicken Sunday lunch and fish goujon starters. Both exemplary! This is the best Sunday lunches in the city centre!

Brilliant bar, lovely atmosphere and really nice place to be in the city centre. We did a cocktail masterclass for a hen do and the staff were super fun and friendly, everyone got to make two cocktails (anything you wanted off the menu!) and they played some games with us too. We were so well looked after and everyone thoroughly enjoyed being there. Would definitely recommend!

I've heard it's a decent bar and I have not been disappointed. What's more of a pleasant surprise is that they do quite good food as well! I especially loved the small plates like sweet potato fries, cod bites and spring rolls. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a drink but also nice food and snacks. Great espresso Martini by the way. Ah and one last thing, I went on a Friday night and they had live music at around 8pm!

Good food a nice atmosphere we booked a table yesterday had a nice meal however the table that we were set for was right next to the door so when people were coming in and out it became very drafty and cold. The staff eventually moved us to another table. Good beer they also have their own gin distillery so it makes a nice change from the norm

A small theatre, offering both new plays and work by established dramatists. We saw an excellent production of Champion by Ishy Din, two months ago. Yesterday, we went to see Josie Lawrence in her one woman, improvised, show. A great evening at the theatre. The theatre is on the quayside, close to plenty of places to eat. Parking at the Quayside multi storey is only five minutes away, and it's free parking after 6pm.

We went to see Bad Lads, which is an extremely harrowing depiction of life in the Medomsley Detention Centre. The 3 actors did a great job, especially the BSL signer/actor. The theatre itself is completely accessible, although I found the tables a bit too close together to place my feet comfortably. I love this little theatre. No steps/lift, all on one level. Cold water to help yourself to. Nice one, Live Theatre!

Really enjoyed our short visit for light lunch at Northern stage today. Toasted tuna and cheese with side salad and crisps with cappuccino was lovely, friendly service and at a very good price. Very nice and airy environment and super clean loos too with good access via lift. Hopefully look forward to visiting to see a show soon x

The first time I was here, was in 2023, I watched a contemporary play. The stage was small but the seats were comfy and the performance was good. The second time (2024) was for a stop animation film collection screening which was in a smaller room underground, and a paper art show. The third time (2025), which is this time, I went back to the main theatre to watch a shadow puppet show. I liked how they not only promote local staged plays but also work with a puppet festival every year, to introduce such unique art to a more general audience. This place is worth coming back for, especially when there are good performances going on.

Absolutely bang out of order would not allow dad or mum to watch ther own daughter perform. Not my problem if the school sent the link late or tickets being sold out. Absolutely discussed by it, when spoke on the phone as advised by the school and they would not allow us to watch our own daughter perform.

Myra’s story, the brilliant one woman show was a heartbreaking yet very funny insight into homelessness in Dublin. Fionna Hewitt Twamley plays all 16 characters with warmth and honesty and ends with a plea to the audience not to look away at all the Myra’s of this city. Northern stage please heed her request for greater publicity and book return shows. Surely the north east’s big heart is better than the empty seats we saw last night.

The Side Photographic Gallery, established in 1977 and managed by the local film and photography collective Amber, showcases classic and contemporary works by international and local photographers. The gallery has a rich history of exhibiting masterpieces of modern documentary photography alongside contemporary talents. It is known for its appreciation of humanist documentary photography and its significance to marginalized communities in the North East. The exhibitions at Side Photographic Gallery are thought-provoking, making it a must-visit institution for art enthusiasts.
A surprising little gallery, slightly hidden but very accessible with a lift. Excellent shop area where you can buy postcards, posters, books or dvds and even a small study space on the first floor. The exhibition space is nice, I spent an hour going around which was enough time to read all the text and study the photos. Even had the cutest little books where you could leave reviews on the work, can’t wait to visit again.

Amazing place😍 Enjoyable experience🤗 The staff here is quite nice and approachable. It was really brilliant to give briefly introductions for these exhibitions at the beginning, that introductions are pretty helpful, thank you. Merry Christmas 🎅. Looking forward to the upcoming exhibition❤

This gallery explores a number of different themes through a variety of photographers exhibits. But for me, the highlight and the 5 star rating goes to Chris Killip for his portrayal of life in the little fishing village of Skinningrove between 1982 and 1984. If you haven't been to the Laing gallery go see his work there documenting the lives of the Shipbuilding community in Wallsend during 1975/76. Alas Chris died last year of cancer, but he leaves an invaluable legacy. He had a great talent for portraying ordinary working people and connecting then to their environments. Another theme explored through the current exhibition is "Lost Summer" portraits of North London teenagers who lost the opportunity to celebrate "end of year" due to Covid in 2020. Other themes are explored in this gallery, but enough writting from me. Go check it out.
