I was very impressed, I've been to many and this one is top notch. The seat controls appear to be disabled and it would have been great to be able to recline the seat backs. I spent most of my time in the planetarium and saw four of the five shows with visiting a few of the exhibits between showings. Of my four shows I enjoyed the interactive Panana Kilo Hoku-Our Wayfinder's Compass program the most. It was informative, educational and entertaining; led by a very professional lecturer. I'm an engineering nerd. The keiki show was mostly accurate excepting for Tycho's ears sticking out of his space suit and would explode on the moon. If you are an astronomy buff, I'd recommend staying for at least 4 hours to take in the shows and exhibits. You can also have a great meal at the restaurant, which I reviewed separately. I saved the last show and the exhibits for the next visit, definite repeat. This would also be an excellent place to visit between your hotel checkout and late flight back to the mainland.

The theater dome is really cool and the shows are different and our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. The bathrooms are nice and there is an outside covered picnic table area so you can bring lunch and enjoy the day here. We went with our school class for field trip and we had the place to ourselves on a day they are usually closed. I saw there is a cafe area but it was not open when we went as it was not a regular, full-staff day. The parking lot seemed sufficient.

The access can be a bit tricky because of the rocky terrain, but there’s a spot where turtles regularly come to rest, and we almost always see some here — today, we saw five!😊✨ It’s also great for snorkeling — the right side (facing the ocean) has shallow areas that make it easier to enter. The water is warm, incredibly clear, and perfect for snorkeling. We saw a wide variety of fish and lots of them. The beach also has a spacious parking area, around three showers, clean restrooms, and lifeguards on duty, so it feels safe and convenient.🐟 05/06/2025 (Tue) Today, I entered the water from the stone steps located across from the restrooms and showers, on the left side when facing the ocean. I had often seen families with children playing there, so I thought it was just a shallow tide pool. There are rooms for the history of Hilo Tsunamis and the 1960 Tsunami which I experienced. The other displays were interesting, educational and informative. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly I won't repeat until we have another future Tsunami for display.

I must admit, when Google Maps announced our arrival, I was skeptical of the museum based on the appearance of the building. As most museums, I walked away with mixed feelings. Covered gazebo with bathrooms nearby and a beautiful view even in the rain. It was an awesome field day, even though it was raining pretty hard at points. We got the gazebo to use for the 2024 CQ worldwide Ham radio contest. I hope the folks who showed up had fun, too. Even in the rain, you can't beat a good field day. I want to try more of the parks since this one is in the parks on the air chart (POTA). Not all parks are friendly to hams, but the ones we've been to seemed fine with it. We did the volcano doors-off experience and WOW was it amazing! We stayed in Kona, drove to Hilo for our helicopter tour at 11am. Be aware when you originally book your tour, the day and time could change due to the cabin capacity of the chopper and weight limits. We had an issue that because our helicopter was small for our tour, there were some cabin and weight restrictions and because it was just the two of us, they were waiting to see if another couple would be able to attend the same tour but weight restrictions wouldn’t allow it. In order to keep our date and time, we paid an extra $170 for the other empty cabin seats but we didn’t mind that for the private and intimate aspect of our tour and the convenience to keep our originally scheduled date and time. Just be aware! I wasn’t surprised by this though as I made sure to read all the information posted on their website and on my booking ahead of time. On our flight, my husband and I weren’t able to sit next to each other, again because of weight/cabin restrictions, but I didn’t mind too much once we were up in the air and we got some pretty cool selfie shots anyways! My husband sat up in the cockpit and I was directly behind him in the passengers seat. I would highly recommend that you READ ALL THE INFORMATION on their website before booking so there aren’t any surprises and be sure you call 3 days in advance if your booking is not confirmed due to the amount of people or weight restrictions for the tour you choose. This will set up your experience up for success! Tyler was our pilot; he was very informative and a fabulous tour guide! Although we had some cloudy weather by the time we made it over to Kīlauea, he navigated us around the clouds as safely as possible to get some great shots of the volcano. I highly recommend this tour and this company for your Hawaiian experience! There’s no better way to see a volcano and appreciate the geology of the land than by air with a great guide explaining everything that you’re viewing and this tour and pilot did just that!

There were two caves - one on the left and one on the right at the bottom of the stairs at the entrance. The one on the left is bigger and it takes about 10 minutes to reach the end of the cave. Beautiful waterfall hidden from view & no crowd. We parked by the area next to the bridge for free without issue & arrived on a non-busy Friday morning. It's a short but rugged hike to get to the swimming hole. This isn't a place to bring beach chairs or heavy gear. Transport only the essentials because you need both hands to climb down the muddy, steep slope to reach the waterfall. The shore was rocky & the water was COLD but we were hot/sweaty from the hike, so it was refreshing. There are NO bathrooms, showers or changing rooms. Obviously assess the water levels & don't swim if there are flash floods. We saw some young adults/tourists jumping off the rocks by the waterfall, which was dangerous & reckless considering that immediate aid was nowhere nearby. Prioritize your safety especially on vacation! We picked up any trash we came across on the way back so please be respectful of the land, leave nothing behind & clean up after your visit. Mahalo!

It’s easy to slip and hurt yourself because it’s pretty wet. There’s no rangers or lifeguards so you’re definitely taking your life in your own hands if you decide to jump from the fall as there’s a few jump points. If you’re not in good shape, if you’re overweight if you can’t climb easily, I suggest not doing this one. But if you’re in good shape and can swim, it’s definitely a must do. There’s a few smaller jumps that are very fun, but like I said, be careful because there’s no services in the area. Bring a lunch. I have a picnic the view and itself is worth it.
