(原文) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Perfect Family Day at Pelham Bay Park! We had such a beautiful day at Pelham Bay Park with the whole family! It’s truly a hidden gem in New York City — peaceful, spacious, and full of natural beauty. From wide open green spaces to scenic walking trails and picnic spots, the park offered something for everyone. The kids had a blast running around, and we enjoyed a relaxing stroll while soaking in the fresh air and calm atmosphere. It was the perfect place to unwind and spend quality time together. Whether you’re planning a quiet afternoon, a family picnic, or just want to escape the city noise for a while, Pelham Bay Park is a fantastic choice. Can’t wait to come back!

(原文) Orchard Beach parking lot is a good starting point for Hunter Island and Two Trees Island trails (they were actual islands before Robert Moses’ transformation have created Orchard Beach). These are most picturesque and well-maintained ones, especially good to stroll in fall season. Another good trailhead is at Bartow-Pell mansion with nice views of the lagoon. I’ve also hiked marked trail from Orchard beach to City Island bridge and then crossing the Meadow back to the beach, this one is somewhat overgrown. Good place to spend few hours of weekend hiking.

Sam L — Google review
Rebeca J — Google review

(原文) This place is truly an oasis and a must-visit destination. Located just 30 minutes from Grand Central, it's a beautiful botanical garden with wonderful wooden trails perfect for a short hike. The shaded trails stay refreshingly cool even on hot summer days. A few practical tips: Come prepared with bug spray and sunscreen, as they may not be available for purchase on-site and there are a lot of mosquitoes. Also note that there's limited air conditioning in the buildings throughout the grounds. It's there but pretty mild. The on-site cafe offers quality food, though it's a bit pricey. For transportation, there's a convenient shuttle that runs hourly either on the hour or usually 10 minutes before the hour depending on whether you're going to the subway or Metro North. You can also walk from the station, but it's a steep climb through a safe, residential area.

(原文) Overall, the park is nice — nothing particularly special, but it’s worth visiting at least once. Unfortunately, we weren’t very lucky: the most beautiful spot in the park — the balcony with a river view — was occupied the whole time by a wedding photo shoot. We walked around for almost three hours, and the area stayed closed off the entire time, so we couldn’t enjoy the view. Other than that, it’s a quiet and pleasant place for a short walk, though not especially remarkable.

(原文) Getting there on the GPS was pretty easy because you drive this very narrow street and it at the end of It the parking lot is right in front of you. The parking lot is small so they have extra parking off the premises. The entrance and parking together cost 23.00. The grounds are absolutely amazing. The bathrooms are clean. You can bring a packed lunch to enjoy in designated areas. There is also a cafe available with plenty of options, soups, sandwiches, salads ect. You can bring a good book or a craft project if you'd like . I have posted pictures of the view.

You can find a quiet spot to relax on a bench or a large rock while enjoying the peaceful scenery. Paved biking and walking path is tantalizingly close to the river but you can catch its glimpses only via unmarked short trails. Forested park part’s grass is not cut short enough although “The Bronx is blooming” organization is trying to improve it (I would advise to create marked trails for hiking).

(原文) Easily one of the most underrated parks in NYC! This park is not the easiest to access, but once you manage to cross the busy roads and dangerous intersections you find yourself a preservation of the area’s industrial legacy turned into park space for all to enjoy. There’s concrete lawn chairs, picnic tables, and more. However, there is not much cover from the summer sun here. There is a water fountain and bottle refill station, too.
Michael ( — Google review
(原文) While the park itself isn't that massive, and there isn't a lot to do there that you already can't do at other parks (especially the nearby Starlight Park), it is still a nice park to visit just for the sights alone. Looking up at what used to be the old concrete plant is like going through a mini-museum for free; especially since the sight of the abandoned Westchester Avenue AMTrack station is near the entrance, decent seats and great views of the Bronx River. You can see the Whitlock Avenue station from the park; as well as the bridge overpass that goes across Westchester Avenue. The AMTrack runs on rails parallel to the park and is, overall, just a nice park to do a quick visit to.

(原文) It is an interesting place and a great little park where green space is desperately needed. For me it was my destination for a subway-based folding kayak trip. And then on the next one it was my launch point. I live in Hells Kitchen and took my small (10 foot) folding Folbot Citibot kayak on the subway first to Shoelace Park off 219th Street and then paddled south on the river, going through the Botanical Garden and then taking out and breaking down my boat here before heading home again on the subway. Next trip came here and assembled my boat, then paddled from Concrete Plant Park around to the Bronx Kill, catching it at just enough water to get through then up the Harlem to Inwood where I took out dis-assembled the boat and took the subway home (albeit dripping water most of the way).

I love to sit by the water or stand and just wacth as the water passes along; my favorite is when the sun is out and reflecting off of the water. I love zooming through the bike path and how fast my bike can go (if no one is walking along it of course). I love the gardens and all the pretty flowers but nothing beats my favorite sunflower gardens; ugghh I love them and have tons of pics of them. It's a great park to ride around, go on a date, hang with friends, or to simply relax and taking in nature. Last but not least, I think the structures that still remain from the concrete manufacturing company is so cool!!! Also, that name of the park is unique to said structures. There are winding paths, blue bridges, awesome views of the trains, and a dog run. But, the restrooms in Starlight Park are not yet opened because they are in a part of the park along Sheridan Boulevard that is still under construction as of today (Memorial Day 2023). The park is still worth a visit, though. Update from November 2023: All of the construction work is done and the restrooms are now usable. A sign over there says the restrooms are open only from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
(原文) Another small peaceful park like Garrison Park. Unlike said park, however, it has more things to do; it has a boat launch and grill stations. It has a sprinkler area that's on during the summer, and you can see a good view of the Soundview neighborhood and Soundview Park on the other side of the Bronx River. Just a nice park to visit, and oftentimes, I visit here alongside Garrison Park and Concrete Plant Park in sequence. 只有一个,合一,带着爱💙💜💙爱 🤙👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤙绝对喜欢 (原文) Basically, actually grew up within the Bronx Park, and specifically this near by playground, since the age of 4 years. Have been hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, trekking and even mountain climbing, all across the US and Europe. And it all began from the lessons learned growing up in this park since the 1960's. Realistically, what's not love about the Bronx Park. Historically, it ran from the East River, upriver through the (present day) Bronx Zoo, into the Botanical Garden, flowing passed the Old Snuff-Mill. {Where the old-timers would buy the best tobacco in NYC, and always had a coffee and snack store for us children.} The "River" continued to wind up the rapids, over the falls (really a dam built for the Snuff Mill). Thus leading, all the way up river, about 25 miles to the Kensico Dam, by the Valley of the Gods, near Valhalla. However, shoelace park??? No one, who has ever grown up, in the Bronx Park, specifically on Bronx Blvd. (Which actually, is the major neighborhood, of the River.) Has ever, even heard of, shoe lace park, it is a completely wrong designation of the area. Erroneously conceived, by the new alliance, which has just recently only formed about 10-15 years, (with mostly all incorrect facts) There is, however a Horseshoe Park, shaped like a horse shoe, down river a couple miles, passed my old house on Bronx Blvd, just under Gunhill Rd. That's where, most of the neighborhood, would gather for late night parties, and July 4th celebrations. Most especially, spectacular was the 1976 Bicentennial 4th of July extravaganza. When many areas, along the Bronx River, were painted Red, White and Blue. And many stages, were constructed for the politicians and musicians. With our fireworks display, although small in comparison, was almost as magnificent, as the firework masterpieces, currently held at the upper river, by the Dam at Valhalla. That is actually, a small part, of the true history of this Bronx Park/ River, by someone who actually lived it. Not from reading an incorrect book, with wrong facts. Hey, may you always love Nature, and be "Forever Young", like the Bronx River/Park However, only if you work hard enough to find the actual deepest secrets of the laws of life, (actual laws of Natur and gain the highest knowledge of 8,000 years. Also, truthfully known as, the ancient total Enlightenment. Secrets from the eastern high mountains, including yes, actual longevity, of 150, 200 and even 250 years. There is only one, ONENESS, with Love 💙💜💙Do Love 🤙👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤙absolutely Like

(原文) The old New York, Westchester, & Boston Railway once serviced what we would today consider suburban commuter trains for roughly 25 years. Running out of Grand Central Station in Manhattan, and once servicing the states of New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, the NY,W,&B saw low ridership and was decommissioned by 1940. Some of the steel infrastructure used to build the rail line was actually melted down and used to make weapons and machinery for the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII. It's interesting to note that the Dyre Avenue Line servicing the IRT#5 train is a remnant of that old railway. The Westchester Avenue Station house is a century old reminder of a bygone era in NYC transportation history. With the proposed Metro-North Penn Station link set to reestablish commuter service along the Eastern edge of The Bronx, one can only hope the city puts up money to rehab the once great structure!

(原文) This is for the gardens ONLY…came here on a weekday and the mansion wasn’t open so I can’t speak about the museum and tours. We came to look around the gardens that were open…while we were distracted taking in the beautiful grounds, we were eaten alive by MOSQUITOES, FLEAS…and DEER TICKS. I looked down to my calves because I felt some itching sensation and to my dismay, there were at least 20 mosquitoes 🦟 feeding off my calves and I spotted a deer tick and some fleas on my shoes. Thank goodness I wore leggings because I was able to brush off the tick but the mosquitoes were relentless and bit through my leggings. There was absolutely no signage nor warning for the ticks. Deer ticks carry Lyme Disease…there NEEDS to be a warning especially if they are expecting people coming to tour so that they can prepare themselves (long pants, bug spray). We came from the Untermeyer Gardens which were better maintained than these gardens. Make sure to bring bug spray if you want to explore the gardens. Not worth coming back for us.

(原文) Known about this place for a while now. It's right in my own backyard in the Bronx about 10 minutes away. I decided to go check it out on a nice Sunday afternoon. First off, it is a little tough to find. Navigation was going a little nuts trying to find the place. Their website advises to use the Golf Club as a destination point, but even with this its tough to find. The best way to describe it is...that there is a gated entrance to the driveway of the mansion on the right along Shore Road, about 1/10 of a mile after passing the Golf Club traveling East. It may be a good idea to check out the location on Google Maps before driving there. After entering the gates the driveway leads to the mansion. There are a bunch of parking spaces, but those are sufficient according to the staff there since this place never really gets "busy". We entered the mansion and there was a young man in front collecting money. The surrounds grounds are free to tour but the mansion itself is privately owned. The fee for touring the mansion is $8 for adults and $6 for children. Though on that day, they were nice enough not to charge for my 8 year-old, so I only paid for myself. ($8) The mansion itself is interesting. Like many museums, they have lots of old items and "appliances". The difference here is that this was an actual functioning house so you can see how the rooms were divided. Small details like the call bells in the attic which ran throughout the house and common game room were interesting. Also, reading some of the writings and the language used back then was nice. There are binders in each (most) rooms with information about the items in the room which was nice. Behind the mansion is a beautiful garden. There are also a few hiking trails you can take from there. Overall we had a great time. I myself found it interested, but my 8 year-old, not as much. I would imagine if you are into history or museums, this may be a good place. The younger ones may not be as interested. All staff we encountered that day (only 2 on that particular day) were very nice, knowledgeable and helpful.

(原文) The Van Cortlandt House Museum is truly a hidden gem in the Bronx! If you’re interested in historical sites dating back before the 1900s, this is a must-visit. You’ll not only appreciate the rich history but also the beautiful atmosphere, art, and artifacts. I recommend taking your time here. While many suggest starting your tour outside to admire the main entrance, I personally prefer to begin inside. When you enter, head straight ahead to explore the parlors. Before you go upstairs, retrace your steps, turn right, and discover and admire the stunning dining room on your left! As you look to your right, you’ll see the stairs! Head up to the second floor and step into the Dutch Chamber—it’s quite scary! If you can handle the atmosphere, congratulations! Take your time admiring the beautiful paintings just outside the Dutch Chamber before making your way to the Van Cortlandt women's bedroom. You don’t need to go back to the first floor; just walk up one stair and then turn left to find it. It’s a bit tricky to explain, but you’ll know exactly what I mean once you’re there. From there, I’ll leave the rest of the journey up to you until you reach the third floor. There, be sure to enjoy the view from the window and check out the Chinese ceramics on display. Went to the nursery room? After exploring, continue on to another room where you can sit and read the articles on display (just remember to put them back as you found them). The articles feature excerpts from documents like wills and census records that record the enslaved people who worked and lived at Van Cortlandt Park during its time as a plantation. (Quick tip: If you prefer not to read the lengthy wills of the Van Cortlandt family's members, you can look for a summary instead!). Don’t miss the charming Mr. Mannequin, who helps showcase the outfit of Mr. Tone or Mr. Tom (I don't remember the name). Also, be sure to take a moment to appreciate the photograph likely titled "Stealing Joy," located to your right as you enter. This photo honors Hester and Piero, a couple who were both enslaved individuals and lived and worked at Van Cortlandt Park during its time as a plantation. Don’t be intimidated by the atmosphere; proceed straight to the other room with the wooden door. Enter if you dare, and enjoy with your eyes! Once you’re outside at the museum’s main entrance, take a moment to relax on the steps and soak in the surroundings. And don’t forget to take a photo! Be sure to take a look at the museum store as well; it offers a delightful range of souvenirs, from colonial toys and lavender-scented soaps to decorative pottery and museum paintings. Plus, you can grab free park maps and museum posters! (A quick tip: the museum doesn’t accept bills over $20.) Before you begin your time-traveling adventure, be sure to visit the welcome center (which also serves as the museum shop) to have a staff member unlock the museum's entrance for you. In summary, enjoy your visit and the captivating history, and don’t forget to explore the lovely park as well!

(原文) Small place that offers a good glimpse into history. My favorite is the doll house. I completed a self guided tour in the last 30 mins. Street parking is difficult to find. plan lots of other activities to make sure you enjoy your day. Van Cortland Park is huge, lush and green. Prepare for a long walk just to get to the side of the park where the house museum is. They have programs. And there's lots to do in the massive Bronx Park. Of course, you can simply read a book with some tunes and relax while you enjoy the people do the same. It's a great way to spend a lot/no cost gorgeous afternoon.

(原文) The Van Cortlandt House Museum is an important part of New York City's history as the oldest surviving building in the borough. The estate, which is now Van Cortlandt Park, was once a plantation owned by the Van Cortlandt family which they referred to as their "Yonkers plantation". The house itself is reminiscent of various interior styles, centered mostly around the Revolutionary War period - George Washington stayed in one of these rooms! I appreciated being able to tour the home on my own, without a docent or guide. It allowed me to be present with the space, and to absorb all of the information at my own pace. Throughout the house there are a lot of wonderful descriptions that you read in each room, providing a lot of context. My favorite detail of the house was this mixture of old and new world interiors as the Van Cortlandt's pay homage throughout the house to New York's old Dutch roots. An orange painted cupboard closes with the teal, blue painted wall until you realize it was intentionally designed to symbolize NY State's flag. Overall, I am glad I visited this house and I learned more about the history of those that occupied the plantation. Their stories matter, and it's important to see. Reminders: There is no parking on site, so you would need to park alongside the border of Van Cortlandt Park and walk inside to the historic house. There is a small gift shop in the Welcome Center, which is where you purchase tickets. If you are a NYC resident with a valid library card you can get free tickets through the Culture Pass program.

Van Cortlandt family history tour was very informative. The family settled from Holland in the 1660s on several hundred acres of farmland with slaves prominently from the Caribbean islands where the family imported many goods, such as Rum, Sugar, Allspice, Pimentos, Indigo, Coffee and Chocolate.
(原文) Came on the first session (10am) on a Tuesday. *CASH ONLY *NO LOCKERS *NO FOOD/ DRINKS *WHITE T-SHIRT ONLY COLOR TO WEAR IN POOL Had a day off and my wanted time at the pool with my 12yr old son. $3 entry fee for both of us! *Restrooms infront of the Pool* *Clock on top of roof to keep track of time and temp* This pool changed so much since I was a kid (for the better) there's 2 parts for the kids and a HUGE main pool area (3ft 6in) people started to come in around 11am and there was still a good amount of space. The manager/ swim guard Mike was super kind! I had asked the other guards for a broom to sweep away the leave so me and my son can put our towels down in a shaded area, he came and did it with a smile on his face. I appreciate him making a total stranger feel more comfortable (my son burns easily and needs to be in the shade) these are the type of people we need on the clock. (原文) I have not been in this park for over 40 years and it looks totally different. I attended a school district event here and got to walk the park. The day was sunny and beautiful albeit hot. It was mostly empty on this day. The only downside is utter lack of parking in the area. Drove around for a long time looking for a decent spot.

It's not huge but not tiny either. You can easily see it is well maintained and care for with love and passion. A perfect place to spend an hour or so on a bright Sunny afternoon. Go alone, take the kids, meet up with friends, go as a couple, on a date, whatever. It's laid back and relaxing. Oh and you can sit down as it has many spots, and just hang amongst the flowers. (原文) Orchard Beach: The Bronx’s Best-Kept Breezy Secret If you’ve ever wanted to escape the sand-scorched, shade-deprived chaos of Rockaway or Coney Island, Orchard Beach is your quiet rebellion. Small, quaint, and blessedly quiet, it’s the kind of place where you can hear your own thoughts, and not just someone’s Bluetooth speaker three towels over. There’s sand, yes, but also grass, actual grass! And shade. Real, leafy, glorious shade. Trees that don’t just exist for decoration, but for salvation. I didn’t know how much I missed sitting under a tree until Orchard Beach reminded me that sunburn isn’t a personality trait. The concessions? Surprisingly solid. Think beach-worthy bites that won’t make you regret your life choices. Burgers, fries, ice cream, and even a few curveballs that feel like someone actually thought about what beachgoers want. The staff? Friendly, patient, and somehow unfazed by the existential chaos of summer crowds. I asked for extra sauce and as a bonus I got a smile instead of a sigh - miraculous. Now, let’s talk history. Orchard Beach was born in the 1930s, a Robert Moses brainchild that stitched together islands with landfill to create the Bronx’s only public beach. It opened in 1937 with a bathhouse, a cafeteria, and enough locker space for 5,400 people. At its peak, it could host 100,000 bathers. That’s not a typo. One hundred thousand. The beach was so grand, it earned the nickname “Bronx Riviera,” which is both accurate and aspirational. And the future? Oh, it’s looking good. The iconic bathhouse pavilion, closed for years, is getting a $100 million glow-up. Think restored terrazzo floors, blue terracotta tiles, and ramps that actually make the place accessible. There’s even a new maintenance and operations building with solar panels and a green roof, completed ahead of schedule and under budget (a New York miracle). So yes, Orchard Beach is having a renaissance. And I, for one, am here for it. Come for the shade, stay for the history, and leave with a sun-kissed soul and a stomach full of fries.

(原文) Nice to see some wild life at the front part of the bbq area. Music is just out of control with people competing to hear their own at the beach and the bbq are as well. Best to visit during the week when is less crowded. Restrooms are far away, therefore people end up doing their business in the bushes or the beach which is disgusting.

When Europeans arrived New York was predominantly forest, so this is your chance to experience an “original” slice of Manhattan 🌳 The undulating path is well-maintained and clear throughout. There is every chance you will not encounter a single person as you stroll through the forest. It goes without saying that from a streetwise perspective the woods should be considered a no-go area at night. Stay safe! Not a lot of tourists compared to the southern section. The woods are beautiful to walk through. There is pond with giant willows perfect for a little picnic. There are a couple of small waterfalls. This really does not feel you're even in the city. No need to take a drive all the way upstate for a walk. 10 / 中央公园动物园 终于,你去旅行了😍 (原文) 10 things to see in Central Park in New York ❤️❤️❤️ At 4 km long and 800 meters wide, Central Park is New York's immense green lung. Here's what you absolutely must see! During your stay in New York, I strongly advise you to devote a half day or a day to Central Park, the most legendary and the largest park in Manhattan! but what should be seen in this huge park, covering an area of 3.41 km²? Here are the 10 places I recommend you! 1 / The Mall This grand, tree-lined pedestrian avenue is emblematic of Central Park. New Yorkers call it the "promenade". Especially remember to review the benches, each with a small personalized plaque. Some quotes are worth a look! 2 / Bethesda Fountain North of the Mall, you will come out in front of the monumental Bethesda Fountain, the most beautiful fountain in Central Park. This plaza was laid out from 1859 to 1864 and opens onto The Lake, one of the lakes in Central Park. on weekends, guaranteed atmosphere around the fountain… and traffic jams with a view of the lake! If you feel like it, don't hesitate to rent your boat in Central Park. 3 / Bow Bridge a short walk from Bethesda Fountain, following the lake west, you will find the Bow Bridge, Central Park's most iconic bridge. this bridge, built in 1862 and 26.5 meters long, is indeed one of the most romantic places in the park. 4 / Strawberry Fields continuing west along the lake you will come to Strawberry Fields, a small, very peaceful wooded area. Since 1985, the site has housed a memorial to John Lennon, the former Beatles singer who was murdered in 1980 in front of the entrance to the Dakota building, a stone's throw from here. the memorial is intended to be very simple: a mosaic with the word "imagine", in reference to one of the most famous songs written by the artist. 5 / Alice in Wonderland Returning to the east side of the park, at 75th Street, you will discover one of Central Park's most amazing sculptures: Alice in Wonderland. this sculpture, inaugurated in 1959, is one of the places to do absolutely if you are with children. Just in front of the sculpture, take a look at the Conservatory Water body: a mini-lake reserved for model ships. to see also going down towards the South: the small statue of the dog Balto, at the level of the 67th Street. And while we're talking about children, go to our page dedicated to great deals with kids in New York. 6 / Belvedere Castle this is one of my favorite places in Central Park. Firstly, because there is something completely surreal about this reproduction of a medieval castle in the middle of New York! second, because the lookout offers a superb view of the Turtle Pond below, the park and the buildings of the Upper East Side. I advise you to visit this place in the afternoon to have the sun behind your back. more information on the Belvedere Castle page. 7 / The Ramble Between Bethesda Fountain and Belvedere Castle, take the time to get lost in The Ramble. this wooded area, with its rugged topography, will give you the impression of walking in the middle of the forest. And yet you are in the heart of Manhattan! Certainly one of the wildest places in the park. 8 / Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir North of Belvedere Castle, the Reservoir is the largest body of water in Central Park. unlike the Lake, next to the Bethesda Fountain, this time you will not see any boats on the water: the reservoir is used to supply two other lakes in Central Park, The Pool and the Harlem Meer, the lake in the far north of the park. if you are a photographer, you will enjoy the view of the water and the buildings. 9 / Sheep Meadow One of my other favorite places in Central Park is the “Sheep Lawn”. But I'm not the only one who loves this place! on weekends, when the weather is nice, crowds of New Yorkers come to lay their towels on these lawns and sunbathe. a very nice place also for photos because you will have the necessary distance to photograph the park and the buildings in the background. 10 / Central Park Zoo Finally, you are traveling 😍
