I had a craving for a steak so after reviewing local restaurants on the web I went to the Broken Oar for an early dinner. From the outside the wooden building looks more like a lodge than a restaurant. The interior is a big open space with log walls and ceilings. It has a small second floor seating area as well as a patio. The menu is listed as “Casual American” with steaks, seafood, pasta, barbecue, burgers and sandwiches. It doesn’t have a full bar and only offers beers and wines. My server was Vinnie and he did a great job of recommending beers and coming around enough to make sure I had all I needed. I am hard of hearing so because of the open space design I had trouble understanding Vinnie and he was very patient in repeating his answers. I ordered a glass of “Last One Down” beer which was not too hoppy and very good. I ordered the Surf and Turf which was an 8oz sirloin steak paired with three white shrimp. We went around 6 to catch the sunset. The view in the patio is stunning. Staff is super nice and welcoming, the food was incredible. The Báhn Mì AND the cheesesteak were the best I’ve ever had.. how many places can you say that about? My friend got the mushroom ‘cheesesteak’ and also loved it. Sat upstairs and had a very friendly and helpful server. The kid's burger came with an unexpected addition: a piece of wire from a scrubbing pad. When our server found out, she comped the meal and gave us a free dessert. We didn't expect either, but shows what good business does. The veggie sandwich was good. The burgers were good. We sat outside on the roof it was a fantastic evening. Service was a little slow at the start but to be fair they were busy and it was getting close to closing time. However, last night we wanted to eat somewhere great. I’m glad we made the choice to stay on the alleged 15 minute wait which only ended up being about five minutes. The restaurant was packed. The staff was incredibly nice, the bartender was fantastic, the food was absolutely top-notch. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the building has great history. We had the Reuben sandwich which was 10 out of 10, my girlfriend said it’s the best she’s ever had!! Fish and chips 10 out of 10. I would highly recommend these choices. We also had a couple ice cold Kona beers on tap! They cater to the tourists and still had specials and happy hour. Well done and if we come back we will for sure get a meal from here again! OMG it was amazing! Also had Gluten Free marked items - the GF Green Chili Pork Soup, the GF Cream of Tomato Jalapeno and a GF flatbread grilled cheese. They were all very tasty and I appreciated the GF markings on the menu as not many establishments in Moab have that...so the reason we tried the Trailhead. Now we're hooked on spicy margaritas and tried them all over UT/NM/AZ. LOL This was the best tho!
