Wow - what a spectacular building, full of history and charm. If you are wanting an accommodation with all the modern amenities, this may not be for you. If you are staying at the guesthouse, you get a voucher for free beer and chocolates, both of which we enjoyed very much. We stayed at the guesthouse for 4 nights, and the overall experience was excellent. The staff was outstanding - very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay there again. My wife got a $16 9oz glass of wine that was a merlot but presented more like a cabernet, it was overpriced and average at best. Her wine glass was dirty with food stuck to the stem too. I had simple coffee that tasted like a portion pack, I am quite certain it was not fresh ground, if I am mistaken then it may just be a mediocre brand. We ordered the lamb sliders which were absolutely sublime. 5/5 on the sliders, perfectly cooked, seasoned and hot when delivered to our table. I then ordered the vista burger while my wife ordered the lamb entre medium rare. This is where it began to slide. We waited for roughly 45-50 mins for our food, only for a different server to bring us food that we did not order, I asked her if it was for our table and she said yes, curious. She aplogised and took the incorrect food back to the kitchen. We then waited an additional 40 mins for our correct order to come, during the wait, our previously attentive server was nowhere to be seen. Personally I beleive that the incorrect order was submitted or recived in the kitchen for our table. When the correct food arrived, the presentation was an easy 4/5 in both accounts. The lamb was under cooked slightly but tasted quite delicious, however it was somewhat cold upon eating. My burger, was average, the greens were limp, the bun and tamato were very fresh, I'm told the patty was too but to me it tasted like a typical frozen patty. I certainly do not think I was lied to but this simply means the fresh patty was bland enough that it could be a "from frozen" type imo. The fries were ice cold too, almost like they were from an earlier batch of fries that were put on my plate. I did not get passed half way completion of my burger before I became bored of the taste, at which point I simply set it aside. It was not "bad" it was just a boring burger. The server collected our plates (my wife finished hers) and noticed that I barely had any fries and but half of the burger. He asked if the burger was not enjoyable, I said that it was simply "boring". To be clear, I was not going to complain at all, it is what it is, I always pay my bill, tip and just write the reviews later. The server pressed for me details in a polite manner to which I suggested it may be a frozen burger, I was corrected on this but also firm in my opinion that the meal had no wow factor at all. To my absolute astonishment my server then told me "honestly, youre never going to get a great burger at a hotel restaurant, I have worked at many hotels and the burgers always taste simple". He then said "we never get negative reviews on our burger". I responded that I simply thought it was average at best and not worth $22. He then added to his earlier statement that "this restaurant is more catered to an international pallet, because it's in a hotel and the burger is not really what I should order". I was very surprised at this, essentially I was told, my disappointment in the burger is my fault for ordering a burger at this establishment! He then promptly insisted we take a free desert, which is appreciated but felt forced. We paid our bill, tipped less due to the experience and left, somewhat dissapointed. Unsure if we will return.
