The prices were reasonable - we averaged about $40 per an adult for our dinners and dessert (just drinking water). The filet was one of the best I’ve had - the portions were perfect to have room for dessert. The flourless chocolate cake ended the meal perfectly. Hubby had short ribs and cheesecake which he thoroughly enjoyed. Our waiter Steve was great as well. We highly recommend this as a place to eat if you’re in the area and want a nicer meal. We were there on Saturday night in October and it wasn’t very busy in the room we sat in. We were the first table sat and it seemed like the other two tables that came were locals going to eat which says a lot about the restaurant. We saw a huge group of students arrive after us and signs for a wedding yet our service was spot on and quick. If you’re debating eating here while visiting Mt Vernon we highly recommend you stay to eat.

So beautiful & peaceful, however I was shocked when I saw the slaves quarters, something that I don’t remember as being taught to me in school back in the 50’s & 60’s. To see their tombs, & resting place was an eerie feeling, taking us back to feel part of our history, right in front of us. I highly recommend an unhurried & leisurely visit.

A church that George Washington helped to build and attended that is still in use today. Beautiful building and grounds. Members of church are docents and give tours. While I visited members of the church were making apple buttle in huge copper pots over wood fires and stirring with four foot ladels.
