The (not-so) SMART Centre at this uni? They’re just another one of those places that puts out fākē job ads, not to, like, actually hire people, but just to, y’know… collect data? Yeah. Super sketchy. 🙄
Apparently, this centre has been advertising fākē jobs for data harvesting?
It’s part of a wider trend that’s been in the news recently, where companies post fa ke job ads not to hire anyone, but to collect data. Yep. Your CV? Your info? All just for metrics. They want people to apply (like, a LOT of people) to hit recruitment KPIs or whatever, then promptly send out mass automated rejections later, regardless of how qualified applicants are.
- First of all, the SMART Centre’s website is... basically frozen in time. The last update in their “news” section is from 2025, and before that? 2019. That’s two sad little posts in several years. For a crowded supposedly stellar research team? Kinda embarrassing.
Are they alive? Are they okay?? Because that’s not what an active research centre should look like.
- Second, they’ve been posting and reposting the same job ads on sites like Jobs.ac.uk (including the Loughborough University vacancies website) over and over again, sometimes four times in a row, across several months.
Like… how many times do you need to advertise the same fākē vacancy to reach recruitment KPI targets?
- And here’s the kicker: they send automated rejections to applicants, like, 3 to 7 months after the posting expired! Other universities respond in a few weeks max.
What exactly is the SMART Centre doing with all that data, and why does it take so much time?
- Despite supposedly needing new research staff and reposting jobs, they haven't hired anyone.
The team is literally the same group of crusty people from 7 to 15 years ago, like from 2009 to 2018. No one new.
So...why is Professor Rāhīmīfārd advertising these fākē job postings if he clearly doesn't plan to hire anyone? He doesn’t reply to job inquiry emails, and the centre hasn’t posted any notable research in, like, a decade. No collaborations with big players in sustainability and recycling on the whole European continent. Nothing.
What’s really going on here?
In conclusion: This looks super shady and sus. Clearly fākē job postings, data harvesting, and possibly even AI training disguised as recruitment. Definitely not a good look for an academic institution.
