I found Seken entirely by accident, which is probably the best way to discover a place like this. It sits quietly above the street, the kind of bar that does not shout for attention, but rewards you the moment you step in. To me it falls into a rare category. It has the unpretentious charm of a dive bar, but carries itself with an elegance and quiet sophistication that most places only pretend to have. The cocktails, the jazz, the lighting, the whole mood of the room come together into a mix that feels heady and strangely seductive. You walk in for a drink and suddenly you are still there two hours later wondering where the time went.
I have loved Bali for many years, but I will admit something. It can feel like a desert for proper cocktail bars. Plenty of places present themselves as cocktail specialists, then serve drinks that taste like someone read a recipe once and decided to improvise the rest. More than once I have walked out thinking I should have ordered a soda instead. So it was a relief, and frankly a small miracle, to stumble upon Seken.
As a cocktail fanatic, I felt instantly at home. Here, drink mixing feels like alchemy.
