Saw this place last week whilst visiting a more formal restaurant nearby as and thought to give it a try. Phoned on the Friday lunchtime but all the 2 HR slots for 7 pm were filled, so we opted for one of the few remaining 5 pm slots. After all it is just a cafe. How wrong that sentiment is. The only thing cafe about this place is the name and the substantial cafe type table and chairs, and even then I've been in restaurants with less good quality seating. Met by one of three members of staff and seated quickly in a bright and happy atmosphere nicely decorated and clean. Offered the menu which is extensive. Starters, sides, salads, build your own pizzas, about 18 named pizzas, burritos,nachos, wraps and enchiladas as well as pasta options, baked potatoes etc. Yes my friends, places with a huge menu option choice often see chef fail to deliver consistent quality across all dishes. NOT HERE! A bowl of olives (enough for two) and a 'chips dips and garlic bread' were delivered. Three dips, probably a bag of nachos and the most delicious pieces of toasted and properly buttered bits of bread came in bowls on a plate. This was a good start. Note the red wine was super smooth (a Merlot at 5 pm!) and was perfect temperature. We went for two named regular pizzas (a medium in old money) and side order of crisscross fries tossed in MARMITE butter (it had to be tried, just once). They are different! It is clear there no previously made, bought in bases going on here. This was clearly authentic dough, with deep topping pizzas made to order and what a treat they were. Hot, melted crisp, fresh. I mean how many words can you use to describe fantastic pizza? Chef clearly had the nailed and my worries over the menu were completely dispelled when seeing other orders and hearing other customers talking about their food. Well done all staff involved. I wouldn't normally go for a dessert at this time of day. It's excessive but something caught my eye on the whole page.of desserts. Something called a 'Super 8'. I won't spoil it by trying to describe this sundae in words except to say 'heaven in a glass' for chocolate, and after 8 and mint ice-cream and chocolate brownie and chocolate sauce lovers................. WOW! An exceptional experience in a full cafe, eating fabulous food, great mix of young and old, nothing formal, everything prepared.abd cooked wonderfully and delivered in a professional and polite manner. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and shown to our table where our drinks order was swiftly taken and within minutes arrived. There was a lovely jovial atmosphere with many in high spirits. I chose the "Ultimate" mixed grill as I must admit I was a little seduced by the title. Unfortunately it was most unbefitting of what actually arrived as you will see in the picture. Now whilst the tincey bit of Gammon was cooked well along with the Chicken, the Steak was a little more than can be forgiven. It did however have a pleasant flavour. I certainly and unfortunately could not rate this in my top 50 so they need to work on this poorly priced dish or on the title. I ordered a Chicken, Bacon and Avocado Salad as a side dish and strangely this had more meat on than the mixed grill ay £10 less and both the bacon and Chicken again had a lovely flavour. The salad was so very dry with the teaspoon of dressing not able to do much work. It was a fabulous salad other than that and had much of your daily requirement, just needed more dressing. We can't fault the service or efficiency and we were able to tip which we love to do so whilst not perfect, we shall return.

Bang for buck this just doesn't hit the mark. The food was ok, although the chicken was tough and small considering the cost. My daughters dish seemed a reasonable size and she enjoyed the flavours, although she mentioned some pasta was hard and uncooked, and it wasn't served with any parmesan cheese... When we asked for some we were served a tiny bowl of some mild cheese and charged 50p for it, that's something else I find mildly offensive as I believe a pasta dish should be served and you should be asked about additional cheese and ground black pepper. The layout of the restaurant is ok, nothing amazing but ok. Service was good and all but one member of staff were lovely and really helpful, a credit to the establishment. The big question, would I go again. Simply, no. The portions are too small and chips don't compensate for that. Prices are too high for the balance of portion size and the quality of the food served.

We were so hungry we didn't want to wait to cook at home. We are so glad we came! The waiting staff were really humourous, friendly and very knowledgeable about food options and allogies. Sadly the halloumi and onion rings weren't vegatarian as they are fried in the meat oils but ensured no gluten contamination to the chips! So all in all it's understandable and there are still other vegi options to choose from! This setback didn't affect our visit however. Both of us wolfed down the tasty food and enjoyed the unlimited chips. The chef's did a great job and we found it really nice that we could see into the kitchen. The venue has a really nice modern vibe with lots of space and comfortable seats. There's lots of parking at the back but make sure you go off the roundabout towards the racetrack to find it. We went on a Tuesday night when they have an all-you-can-eat buffet, and it was packed. We ate à la carte, and the service was still exceptional. Portion size was generous and I was particularly pleased with the number of prawns in my green curry. Our one criticism was the curries were too sweet and not quite spicy enough. The waitress said that was to accommodate UK tastes which is probably accurate! But next time we are going to ask for a more Thai taste experience with less palm suger and more of the good stuff! I cannot recommend the venue enough! We chose the venue because we wanted a rustic "barn style" wedding with accommodation on-site... without the extortionate price tag. The planning process was excellent - the team were responsive and reassuring throughout. Early on, we asked if they could recommend any local suppliers, which is how we found our fabulous photographer, and we booked other excellent suppliers at their wedding fair. On the day, all staff were absolutely lovely and so many guests commented on what a perfect venue is was. The food was exceptional and the accommodation was well-liked by all of the guests - I love that it all gets renovated every January so it all feels fresh within a rustic setting. There is a nice clean area to sit with your well behaved dog at the back of the cafe. A decent amount of space between tables so you are not sitting on top of each other which also gives room for dogs to sit without getting trodden on. There is a little book exchange area at the back so you could enjoy a drink and a bite to eat whilst reading. We had cheese scones and hot drinks. The scones were homemade, large and lovely and came with a suitable amount of butter. The cakes looked really nice too, so whilst there I also purchased a generous slice of pineapple and coconut cake to take away, which was lush. Prices are reasonable and they also do hot food. Staff are friendly and very helpful. One member of staff even bought a few dog biscuits and placed them on the table for us to give to our dog. The tables were cleared quickly after people left which is a small detail but gives a good impression when you arrive/looking for somewhere to sit. When next visiting Newton Abbot, and find myself in need of somewhere nice take a moment, I will definitely be stopping at The Country Table cafe. It's places like this that we could do with more of, instead of giving our money to the ever increasing American style eateries.

Rang and all you get is the driver has left with your order. Hire more delivery drivers!! Over two hours is acceptable to paying customers. It is unacceptable to treat paying customers that way.. busy or not, don’t take orders if you can’t facilitate them in a timely manner. If you were in a restaurant, you’d never accept sitting a waiting for you meal for 3 hours and accept a blunt ‘sorry’ after spending money on a weekend treat. Picturesque pub on the riverside. Only problem is they stop serving lunch at a very early time which meant we couldn't actually order any food. The owner claims this is advertised 'everywhere' but it some how managed to escape our attention when looking on Google maps. Fair enough, I might have missed it. However I do find the commitment of only 6.5 hours work from her staff as somewhat lacking, especially as we were able to drive literally 5 mins and find several other pub/restaurants still serving food at reasonable time. We left disappointed and took our custom elsewhere. Shame as it looked lovely. The reason for the overall 1 star is because the 3 categories to review are: Food (of which we couldn't taste), Service (of which we were turned away) and Atmosphere (of which we didn't get to experience) and so unfortunately there isn't a category for How picturesque the location is, otherwise you would have got 5 stars for that. 🙂

We met with Emma a few times who helped us plan all the arrangements for the wedding and she couldn’t have done enough for us. Last June, Dainton hosted our Vegas themed wedding party after we returned from getting married in Vegas and they absolutely nailed it. The five stars go especially to Emma, their incredible events planner. From the moment we booked, nothing was too much trouble. She made everything run smoothly, handled every detail like a pro, and brought our vision to life without a hitch. Even though it was a celebration party rather than a traditional wedding, she treated it with the same care and effort as a full ceremony. After much scanning of barcodes and screen-shots, we booked for 7.00 on a Wednesday evening. Unknown to us, so did half of Exmouth. We arrived to an un-manned meet-and-greet podium so elected to make our way to the bar instead, where 2 servers were doing their best to keep up with the waiting customers plus the servers trying to place orders for seated customers. When we were seated, it was at a small table for two that was so dark that when we ate I could not see what was on my plate an d we asked to be moved to a better lit part of the restaurant. We were told on being seated that due to a high number of diners they were operating a ‘queue management system’ and we would be called in a strict order when we could go up. When the call came, the queue snaked back on itself twice, like a letter ’S’ , and on joining it I counted 24 people ahead of us. When we got to the front, there were over 30 people behind us. I have been in shorter queues for security checks at Heathrow Airport, never mind a six-quid roast. So first the food; I opted for the beef and got the end of what was once a large joint; most of what I tried to eat ended up in my napkin as it was completely inedible. Veg were average at best; cauliflower was hard and undercooked with very little cheese sauce; roast potatoes would have benefited from another 10 minutes in the oven. If I was to return, I would go for turkey as apart from being too dry, is a difficult meat to get wrong. The resulting meal on the night was more school dinner than an evening out, and was only made worse by some of our fellow diners. Perhaps the lengthy queues put people of returning to the buffet for more veg, which resulted in some of the most extreme plate-piling I have ever seen. It would have been impossible to guess what was at the bottom of the plate as the stack of food was so high. An exhibition of pure greed and gluttony and the very worst example of ‘man versus food’ that I have ever seen, nor indeed ever wish to see again. Not an experience I would wish to repeat in a hurry. By the time we left at around 8.00 there was no queue and the place was emptying fast. Should however you wish to give this experience a go, I would recommend booking for 8.00 and steering away from the beef. Also only go on a voucher code promotion, as there is no way on earth that this could ever in a million years be worth £12 per head with so many good, independent pubs in the vicinity.

The location was well tucked away down some serious country lanes, but on arrival we felt very at ease in the extension dining room. The service and food was top notch. The menu was rather varied and changed monthly I think. My jambalaya was excellent with large chunks of chicken, a good number of prawns in a rich spicy sauce. The portion sizes were generous leaving us full up on departure. The reason I only gave 4 stars for atmosphere was because we were the only people in the extension when we arrived. I would have no problem in recommending this establishment for a great meal out. Hoping to be back soon.

On Sunday at 4pm we decided to have an extra late lunch on our way to a concert in Torquay. We had a very warm welcome, firstly by the young lady as we walked through the door and then by the waiter who took our order. Nothing was too much trouble for him and that restaurant decor made us all feel very comfortable. We shared tiger prawns to start which were covered in the lightest batter I’ve ever had. Our venison ragout was exceptional and the vegetables delicious. We couldn’t manage a pudding so I had coffee which was also rather tasty. Good selection of wine, and drinks from the bar. The restaurant is very prettily decorated, the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, the staff are friendly and helpful, service is quick but not rushed, in all making this a lovely place to be. We visited again on 30 December and have once again enjoyed a stunning meal. We love this place! Our tiger prawn starter was just as good as our previous visit, my seafood risotto was divine and my husband’s Moroccan Chicken was amazing. I have never actually been there, I’m not entirely sure why - it’s amazing! And it’s only a ten minute drive away from Newton abbot town and is situated on the Totnes road on the way out of Newton Abbot towards Ipplepen. There is ample car parking and on arrival the staff were very welcoming. The food was really good. I had a fish pie (they do 2 sizes) I had the small one and it was a good feed I was full after. The other photo I’ve uploaded is a veggie lasagne which looked really good too and I’m happy to report that it was also delicious. I also ordered one as a takeaway and took one back home for my partner! The chef prepared it ready for just as I was leaving so it was still warm when I got home. Highly recommend and looking forward to going back.

I've been multiple times in the last seven years of living just a short drive away. We went there yesterday for a meal and left very disappointed. i had the Top Side Beef Sunday Roast. £20 for a portion of food that saw veg & spuds hidden under two thin slices of overly pink, very chewy beef. I'm all for a touch of pink to my red meat but the Top Side served up was completely pink to the point of being chewy raw in texture. The roast potatoes were barely roasted. The two strip of carrots amounted to less than one whole carrot. One 5th of a whole parsnip, one tiny piece of beetroot, a slither of cabbage and a stuffing block that was chewy and tasteless. The stuffing felt like it had been sat in the kitchen all day and had been given a quick heat through. The Yorkshire pudding was the only piece of food on the plate that was half decent. Also, the meal was just about warm. £20 for a Sunday roast that was miniscule in portion and lacking in quality. Both my wife & I said that we produce 10 times better at home, and we do. Our friends & family love coming to ours for a roast. Sadly, we seem to be living in an age where portions and quality of food served in various establishments is decreasing but prices are increasing. We won't be rushing back to this place any time soon. What was a 5 star place to eat has now been reduced to a 1 star. We don't mind paying the price we did last night (just shy of £100 Inc drinks) if the food we order is quality. But to pay what we did for the meals we had was saddening. On a positive note, the IPA was good. We will stick to doing our own Sunday Roasts from now on. I also think it's time that we stop eating out, as many places are going down hill but pricings are going upwards! Rip off Britain!!!

Beautiful setting, nestled in the village close to thatched cottages and the unusual Church whose tower can be seen from the Inn car park. We booked for my mothers birthday, and they were accomodating when we changed from a table of 4 to a table of 5. What a brilliant time we had from the moment we arrived. The Maître d' (she was more than just a witress!) Was warm, funny and welcoming from the very first step through the door and made the whole dinning experience lovely. Extremely helpful with food choices and was prompt with a smile with the food delivery. The food across all 5 of our different dishes was excellent and the deserts were very tasty as well. I can't fault it. My son would have eaten his dish 3 times over it was that good. My mother didn't have anything negative to say....which is first and my dad (who doesn't have a sweet tooth) throughly enjoyed his desert of sticky toffee pudding! There was a lovely village atmosphere, yet we felt totally welcome as strangers. The service was friendly, attentive and promp. Staff were all super polite and helpful. The food and drinks were fabulous - good choice of food, well cooked and presented, and tasted wonderful. Our dog was made to feel very welcome - able to sit anywhere we liked with him, his own bowl of water, and good quality dog treats for sale on the bar. It's located on the village green and seems a popular spot with locals and visitors alike. They have plenty of outside seating with a marquee, and cosy indoor areas. The menu is a simple affair, which is seasonal, and offered the typical pub food including burgers, fish and chips, pizzas as well as beers, wine and soft drinks. Had a pot of tea first then I opted for the ploughman's cheese plate with salad and chocolate cheesecake for afters which went down very well. The service was good and even though it was a Saturday lunchtime they managed to find us a table straight away. There was a bit of a wait with serving as they got busy with the unexpected arrival of a large group. I would recommend it to anyone looking for proper country pub food with friendly service! The pub has a lovely feel to it, good atmosphere, friendly locals, and great staff. There is a good selection of drinks behind the bar and the food we ordered was really nice. Katie said we were welcome to eat Shack food in the red room which decided us and oh my goodness the whole evening was FABULOUS. Matt from Le Shack brought us (in the restaurant) an unbelievably succulent whole chicken, a delicious salad, and a new potatoes and roast courgette side dish that was to die for. To top it all the new in-house chef, a masterchef winner for good reason, came out to check everything was ok for us (even though we had ordered from Le Shack), and asked if we would like some of his gravy with our meal, which was a complex, rich, flourish that finished us both off. We became a bit giddy with the joy of it all. I honestly could fault NOTHING. The staff were all super friendly, cheerful and helpful, the ambience was delightful, and our meal was beyond delicious with no frills or fuss, just wonderfully warm hospitality. We were staying under half a mile away and as we had eaten here previously for lunch I decided to give it a try as they have an excellent gluten free menu. On paper the menu had excellent choices. We were told the pie is cooked fresh and would take 30 minutes which we agreed was ok. However 1 hour & 20 minutes later the food arrived just as we were about to pay for our drinks and leave. The burger was ok and tasty. However the pastry on the pie was raw and the gravy was watery with no flavour and wasn’t eaten because it was inedible. We felt bad and the lady offered to make something else but I reminded her how long we had waited for the food so I left hungry which my husband wasn’t happy about. I just don’t understand why the food took so long because from what we could see we were the only customers in the restaurant. What a shame because the pub is in a lovely setting and we enjoyed sitting outside for drinks before dinner but we also couldn’t understand why it was so quiet at 6pm. I must say it was the worst meal that I’ve ever had so won’t be returning next year. Even though we were not charged for my meal which was a nice gesture from the waitress it’s not enough to persuade us to return next year. The waitress is a gem and nothing was too much trouble which is the only reason I’ve scored for service.

The member of staff said that he 'was scared' of this little dog and that we would have to put her in our room or car. He became insistent and aggressive on this point and then made a point of telling other guests in the lounge that our dog was 'dangerous'. In order to avoid a fuss we put the dogs in our room. At breakfast the following morning he banned our dog from the dog-friendly dining room and again became argumentative and aggressive towards me.
