Great care had been taken to organise the setting, including 2 guitars in the wall which deserved to be played. We had the Coromandel Oysters; Duck Risotto, nicely cooked duck slices presented on a mound of Risotto rice, cooked just right; lamb rack (not the bones, just the meat), house salad, really nice potato gratin, and a delicious vanilla custard dessert that defies description, a bit like a dismantled millefuille! When we were first seated and served, the waiters kept coming to ask for our orders in quick succession. We chose not to read what it is and trust the chef. The presentation vessel of the dishes was stone plate or solid ceramic bowls. They look very Japanese or French and in very fine condition. All of our dishes had a seafood focus but one which was venison. The food was mostly similar with some fine dining style portion of various ingredients put together either among some foam some broth or some soupy content. They were all fresh and quality ingredients but somewhat repetitive with the meals being about a series of bowls with everything floating in some form of liquid. The texture was identical and the taste was very similar. The fried bread at the start was not soft or warm and was in fact almost like a scone that failed to rise. I wish there was more that I could praise for and look forward to a very dynamic and diverse experience in a great dining spot.

They were extremely busy but acclimated our group of four. We started with a pink gin flight and moved on to other flavours like Pinot noir gin and then the duchess peach and passion fruit that was a firm favourite. Food was great, we had scallops, fish, Karage chicken and the steak special. All food was presented well and delicous. You can tell some designs behind normal and truthful Thai cuisine. And the assorted dessert gave us a chance to “try & error” (but they were actually all good enough). We turned up with no booking. A lovely young lady found us a table inside which we appreciated as it was reasonably busy. Both my mum & myself have mild hearing loss so we find noisy environments difficult. I noticed a small table outside available so asked if we could move there to which she said yes. Once outside we didnt have to wait long to order which was great because we were all hungry. We were sat in the sun which got extremely hot fast. An slightly older lady with such a beautiful soul came over and asked if we were ok in the sun. Which we replied that it was getting very hot. We initially stopped for a few chocolate treats and gifts while travelling but were pleasantly surprised by the amazing food we had at the cafe on site. We both had a bacon egg bene (as that is the go to for us) which was absolutely beautiful and the cherry tomatoes were a great addition to the meal! Staff were informative on special, table we reserved was ready when we arrived, advised of time delay in getting food due to large groups. Food was well worth the wait. It has always been our go-to place in Napier. Go for their Chicken Satay; you will lick the last bit of the peanut sauce that comes with it. 😉 I also went for the Pad Khing Crispy Pork, which was simply amazing, with very generous portions of meat in it (more than almost any fancy Thai eateries in the country I must say). And that is no exaggeration. Having been to many Indian restaurants in Auckland, some of them exceptionally good, and other places around NZ, we did not come with any expectations. But the food and service just blew as away. Owner and head chef Kamalesh personally served us. Being vegetarians, he asked us to leave it with him to prepare for us. We were not disappointed. He served us 2 starters, 2 main curries, a roti and a Methi Paratha. The starters - Burratta Papdi Chaat and Bharva Mushrooms - were simply mind blowing. Specially the Chaat - I would recommend it any day. The 2 curries - Paneer Khurchan and Methi Malai Mutter - one spicy, the other medium, served both our tastes. All in all, this was a wonderful dining experience. I would recommend Rasoi to anyone visiting Napier. It is a smallish restaurant so make sure you book ahead. Thank you Chef Kamalesh and team. The reviewer stated that at 8.30pm everyone was told to be quiet. We were sitting out on our deck enjoying a glass of wine and can confirm that only one group was spoken to regarding noise. This group were obnoxiously loud, repeatedly using foul language which reverberated through the entire complex and surrounds. They showed no respect for the staff or other guests when asked politely to tone it down. This request was repeatedly ignored. Staff were friendly but like a lot of establishments in napier are having shortages but coping pretty well . In saying that the meals came out very quickly. I advise to order the whole table at once or queue together. The potions were good, my nana liked her fish and chips. The roast meals look good and the Thai salad was enjoyed. My deluxe chicken burger pictured was cooked well and had really nice seasoning however, there was too much aioli used. It over powered everything, left a strong aftertaste and made a mess. Luckily I asked to have the relish on the rise. I would recommend to have the aioli on the side too. I excepted a $30 burger to have fresh avocado and not tube paste but that’s on me. I recommend breakers update this burger by changing the aioli to chipotle sauce, change the paste Avocado to slaw, and ditch the relish. I think this place is good for families, those that like expected bar meals and the senior crowd. My favorite part of the meal was the chip. Hot and tasty.

Seafood platter dish was about $45ish with decent amounts of fish, scallops, clams, squid rings, mussels and prawns which I thought was good value. Other dish was chicken risotto. Cocktails were reasonably priced and service was good (even for lockdown rules). Restaurant was very clean and the environment had a great feel to it. All in all a very positive experience. The only constructive criticism I would suggest is to print out the customers receipt before they pay but I had the price pre-worked out in my head. Will definitely be back.

The waitress was really polite and helpful, the only suggestion I'd make is letting people know they have to pay for the bottle of water at their table. Majority of restaurants give a chilled bottle of water for the table so it was very sneaky of them to charge us $10 for the water. The food was absolutely delicious though, cooked perfectly. Overall a pleasing environment, maybe a tad dark. I'd definitely eat here again.

I enjoyed there seafood and pasta dishes that absolutely blew me away with the different contrast of flavors from the tomato based seafood platter dish to the light garlic clam dish that was full of fresh seafood that decorated my plate. Hands down the best Italian restaurant I've tried so far. I give it a solid 8/10 would easily get a 9 if it had fresh handmade pasta. Three course meal for two at about $140 is very reasonable for the quality of the dishes. Highly recommended!

However, my main dish of battered sweet n sour pork was very disappointing. The batter was terribly soggy as if the plate had been microwaved after the battered pork pieces were added. Not one piece of battered pork was crispy and the food was extremely hot on top. The dish tasted nice once it cooled down but when i took the batter away off the pork pieces I found fatty parts, no meat, all thru the meal. Simply yuk. Never returning
