It did NOT live up to expectations at all. We had the Melbourne Omakase option. Food was of high quality, great tastes, well presented and a nice variety. Their seasonal menu is packed with interesting dishes that includes oyster, Otoro sushi, caviar, tempura, crab meat, A5 wagyu beef from Kumamoto, green lip abalone (for those chose not to have beef), Murray cod, duck and dessert. These, coupled with expertly prepared sushi courses, are so welcome, displaying an ethos on fine craftmanship. A true testament to the honing of craft to deliver perhaps a "blended" style, while speaking true to Japanese roots. You will not leave disappointed or hungry. Bansho completely surpassed my expectations. The food was SO incredibly tasty and delicious, but also fresh and delicate and presented so beautifully. I highly recommend the Salmon Tartare; it was scrumptious. And as delicious as the trout was, it was the Miso Veloute and Dill Oil that stole the show. That sauce was so incredible that I could have just ordered it in a bowl and drunk it with a straw. For dessert I had Pavlova, and it was phenomenal. Inside is a clean, fresh and refreshing lemon sorbet with a rhubarb base with citrus segments in it. It was almost too pretty to eat, but I had to get that in my belly as I couldn't wait to try. Be warned though, that this is a bit of a pricey restaurant, and not the kind of place you go to on a Tuesday night for kicks (unless you're wealthy). Unsure if the prices were just a tad too high, or the portions were a tad too little, but I could have eaten more. You're probably not going to roll out of there super full. With that all said, I am so very glad I found Bansho. If you love Japanese, and want to try upscale, fine dining, this is the place to go. It's my absolute new fave and I cannot wait for another special occasion just to come back here again.

The food was amazing it had so many Brazilian staples - just felt as if I was back in Brazil. I had the bolinho de bacalhau, feijoada, brigadeiro and beijinho. They've also got Brazilian beer. The staff were incredible, so attentive and loved the atmosphere and hearing Portuguese spoken so freely again - obviously it's very popular with local Brazilians. I actually made a reservation online - easy process and would recommend doing so as it gets rather busy, especially if you have a few in your group. Would highly recommend to anyone who is either craving Brazilian food or to anyone who hasn't tried Brazilian food. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Melbourne.

The egg salad dressing paired nicely with the chicken. The prawn was sweet and fresh but batter could be crispier. The Tamaki Sushi was fresh but unfortunately my seaweed was soggy. The chanwanmushi was light and silky but I expected it to be packed with more flavours. Overall, a lovely place. Food and drinks were fun and interesting!
