The Archaeological site of Grotte di Catullo, located on the Sirmione peninsula in northern Italy, is a significant Roman villa dating back to the 1st century BC. Despite its name, it's not a cave but rather the remains of a grand Roman domus. While traditionally associated with the poet Catullus, there's uncertainty about this claim.
Museum is very small with few exhibits but the Grotte is amazing! Very large and the free audio really brings it to life. *Note the audio download is recommended to download from hotel wifi. It’s rather large and signal is 4g 2 bars Really enjoyed this site which is pretty cheap. Do also be aware if you plan to do the regional 1,2,3 site you can get a discount ticket. We only found this after the visit but 🤷‍♂️ all good.

If you can, book a local hotel to fully enjoy this place. If amazingly beautiful, but we were with our kids and this place requires a lot of walking, specially if the parking lots close to the old city entrance are full. We don’t regret anything, even parking far the visit was amazing. Just next time we will book a local hotel so we can stay more and walk less.
Luciano K — Google review
Incredible site to visit if you’re at all interested in history! The museums fairly small but contains a lot of interesting artifacts. The actual archeological site is well excavated and uncovered, so it is easy to move around and view the different buildings. Unfortunately the audio guide was not an option as I had to look after kids - so I cannot comment on it. On the topic of kids; be ready to carry them a lot, a lot of steep stairs and places to get hurt - but at the same time very kid friendly as they are free to explore. Would, and will, visit again!

Another attraction highly recommended if in Sirmione. Either walk or take an electronic train ride (from Terme) to the ticket station. The ruins are spread over a bugger space then I thought and there are lots of olive and fir trees and spectacular views. Peaceful and tranquil too. After the visit, you can walk down towards Jamaica beach as well.
Sarah S — Google review
The ruins are relatively interesting but what made this place special for us were the spectacular views of the lake. Alongside the ruins, it is worth visiting here just for the stunning views.
Keith — Google review
If you'll walk through this magnifiyplacs and think that people who build it and some who lived there didn't even heard about Jesus walking on the earth. Scale od PRIVATE villa build 2000years ago is unbeliy. Evidebyof some great work, architecture and art. Also the location and the view is thrilling.
Tomasz L — Google review
It is a very beautiful place. History is there. It is located just near the lake and gives inspiration to people. Everyone who visits Sirmione must see this place too.

Crazy castle! Amazing views ! One of a kind ! If you get the boat to drive around the lake will be something else ! To get in the castle 8euro per person it was fast .

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Jamaica Beach, located at the foot of the Grotte di Catullo in Sirmione, is a popular destination known for its wild beauty and accessibility. The beach features a small sandy area and a submerged flat rock outcropping with views of nearby ruins. Accessible by walking through the old town or by boat from Grotte di Catullo, this paradise boasts unspoiled vegetation, rocky slabs, and transparent waters.
This is the best beach in the area! It is located right on the tip of the peninsula. Just be aware, it is very rocky and you should be careful in the water, it is very shallow, but then it gets very deep further out. This is also a fun place to put on some swim goggles and explore the cool rocks underwater and the fish. I recommend

The Most Terrifying and Humiliating Experience of My Life. Warning: They close the main gate at exactly 8:00 PM. If you are still inside, you will be locked in. We were a group of young people having a good time when, at 8:00 PM, the staff told us to leave. We hurried to the exit and reached the main door at about 8:10 PM. When we were just 10 meters away, one staff member shouted, “Run, guys, run — you won’t make it to the exit!” Then, right in front of us, they locked the gate while looking at us. We begged them to open it, but one of them laughed and said: “Oh no, the gate is closed! Swim to the next beach!” They knew that the Jamaican Beach path is very slippery and dangerous. He also cursed at us and said rude things while we kept apologizing and explaining we could not go through the water. But he still refused to help. We had no choice but to walk on the dangerous, slippery rocks. My friend slipped, fell, and started bleeding. There was no ambulance access, so he had to walk all the way to Sirmione city while injured. When we finally reached the other side, they opened only the first gate — the second gate was still locked. I will never forget how it felt to be trapped, insulted, and forced to risk our lives just to get out. It was dangerous, humiliating, and completely inhumane.
Behnaz G — Google review
Fantastic service and view. The guys who served us went above and beyond. Great Hugo Spritz and a lovely cold pint
Lloyd P — Google review
Dangerous! Bring swimming shoes otherwise be very careful. Water is very shallow and has no rocks rather very slippery plates that if you slip you can get really hurt. It takes a while to walk (and try not to die 😅) before you can fully swim underneath. The Jamaica beach bar tho is an experience on its own. Hats off service is amazing and there we spent a lot of time. Crowdy no matter the day
Patrycja P — Google review
A fine public beach, but its quite small so it can be super cramped during the holiday. To reach it you have to go down the ancient hill, theres a roman ruins too on top of the beach. There are beach beanches for rent but they are sold out fast. As its rocky, dont forget to wear a sandal.
Fairuz A — Google review
Jamaica Beach is a flat rock beach with large stone slabs that are smooth and slippery due to the algae. We would highly recommend waterproof shoes to protect your feet.🌊 Entrance to Jamaica beach is free and there are few options for how to access it. You can walk down the stairs located below the Roman ruins of the Grotto de Cattulo that overlook the lake. This attractive beach can be reached also by foot at low tide from the other side of the shore. We walked through the water and stones from Spiaggia Lido delle Bionde located south-east of Jamaica Beach.⛱ The water on Jamaica beach has a beautiful clear blue color. For about the first 15 meters the water is shallow and warm but then it gets cold and quite deep. You can lay on the huge smooth stones partially dipped in water, swim in Lake Garda, or enjoy one of many water sports. There are also sunbeds and parasols which you can rent out, as well as pedal boat rentals. Jamaica Beach also offers an outdoor bar, which is perfect to cool off with some drinks and snacks and enjoy the best sunset views around.⛰🛥
Natalia L — Google review
A white stone beach, really unique. Short walk down from Grotto di Cartullo and there is a bar on site as well for drinks

Nature & Parks
Parco Maria Callas is a serene and hidden gem in Sirmione, dedicated to the famous opera singer Maria Callas. The park features lush greenery, numerous statues, and is located near the villas where Maria lived with her husband. It offers a stunning garden leading to a beach and is well-maintained by local gardeners. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll among mature trees, old stairs, and remnants of buildings while taking in the tranquility of the surroundings.
The olive grove in the park is an absolutely charming place. A peaceful place to escape the crowds of tourists.
Agnieszka D — Google review
The lakeside park is quiet and comfortable for walking.

Great little park perfect for a light stroll on a hot summer day. Lots of trees around which offer sun protection and shade. Old stairs and remnants of old buildings. There are benches to sit and small fountains to cool down and replenish water bottles.

Beautiful park, very old trees, quite area, a lot of birds chirping, so peaceful !

This is true peace on earth place as Maria Callas has regret to back when she lived in the area! It is great for a day or evening walk, it also have some benches so you can have a sit as well:) it is close to the aqua baths so it has some soulful like smell (rotten eggs:). Great for kids walk as well.

Health spa
Aquaria Thermal SPA is a renowned indoor/outdoor spa complex located near Lake Garda, offering a range of facilities and treatments for relaxation and wellness. The spa features thermal pools, saunas, steam baths, and an outdoor fresh water swimming pool where fitness classes are held. Visitors can also enjoy personalized treatments, whirlpools, massages, and wellness cabins.
Very good Therma Spa. Good place, relaxing and you can easy clean your head. Nice view for Lake Garda. Pool for better circulation of leg was great, warm and cold weather. Many choices of Spa treatments. Saunas, steam room. Showers with nice smell water. Definitely recommend this place.
Magdalena P — Google review
Make sure to book in advance — this place is very popular. The thermal baths themselves are pretty standard: warm, slightly sulfuric water, everything generally fine. Some areas are working, some not — typical for such places. But there’s plenty of space, so even when it’s busy, you can still find a spot to relax or sunbathe. Great view of the lake, and there’s a small buffet with snacks. That said, the spa leaves a slightly odd impression. It doesn’t quite have the cozy, calming atmosphere you expect — it feels more like a health clinic. The massage was good, and the staff were polite and professional, but the place lacks a bit of character and warmth. A stronger touch of management could really elevate the experience. Overall: 4 out of 5.
Andrew Z — Google review
This place was a relaxing and chill way to spend half a day in Sirimione. Due to booking only a few days in advance we had to go quite early when they opened (for 5 hours) so book in advance if you want to be able to choose the time you want to enter! So, despite being at full capacity there were many places to relax without it feeling busy. The different types of saunas and essential oil showers are a good edition. My only complaint would be that a group of teenage boys in the supposed ‘silent areas’ were loud and disturbing so would’ve appreciated maybe staff to enforce this more consistently.
Monica O — Google review
Amazing Therme to visit, especially in the evening time. We were almost alone there and it was super relaxing. There is a huge relaxation area with various decos on the second floor, there are several saunas, really nice aroma showers, massage pools, infinity pool, pretty much everything one can wish for in such a place. Really recommend visiting in the evening time if you are around the area. PS mind that there is no parking possibility as the spa is above the old city, so plan around 20 minutes walk from the nearest parking place Monte Baldo.
Tatiana S — Google review
My daughter (17) and I did the 5 hrs from 11.30am. We started with 7 cycles of the cardio circulation walk, then went to the indoor large jacuzzi. We tried the sulphur pool, the scented showers afterwards. We found lounger chairs with lake view under the shade. Read and admired the views. Tried the cooler pool at the end of the terrace, no one there so swam and admired the views as this pool is right on the lake. Had lunch, ham, cheese croissants and diet coke, water. We then went to the big pool with the spa bubbles. We tried the relaxation rooms upstairs, enjoyed them all, had some flavoured tea on our way back to the pools. We did not do sauna or steam as was a hot day! I had a mud wrap with Vlada, was calming and detoxing! My skin felt smoothe afterwards. We found all the staff from Reception to the bistro, spa all friendly. The best 5 hours!
Nicky 1 — Google review
We visited the spa on a cloudy/rainy day for a relaxation purpose and weren't disappointed! The spa offers multiple rooms and choices. From warm outdoor pools, indoor pools and healing thermal waters to special small rooms( star room, music room, salt room and many others). You have to book in advance and I was a little bit disappointed everything was sold out as I wanted to experience their treatments, but oh well we had enough time to loose ourselves and just take a breath. We had amazing time, love the saunas with a view on the water too. Thank you.
Patrycja P — Google review
It was a great experience and relaxation at SPA Aquaria. A great set of saunas and mineral baths recharge you energetically and physically while looking at the peaceful lake in front of you. For the massage I can only say - Thank you Julia, you have magical hands that relaxed me so much that I even fell asleep. I recommend and would gladly visit this great place again.😊

This can be found in the beautiful old town of Sermione at the bottom (South) of Lake Garda. We stayed in Garda and got to it by ferry (45 mins travel). It is a bout 10 mins walk from the ferry. The spa waters come from a natural spring and this about 37 / 38 deg C. Staff friendly and very helpful. The main outdoor pool can also be accessed from indoors. Changing facilities are very good and there is good cafe(?) offering a good range of food. The Spa and Thermal garden pool is awesome. You can smell the sulphur and feel your skin softening. Plenty of sun loungers with covers for shade. I noticed there is designated smoking area outside for those that do, which near the sauna cabins. We spent 5 hours here and felt we had very good value for money.

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Chiesa di San Pietro in Mavino is a medieval stone church located on Mavino hill, the oldest church in Sirmione dating back to the 8th century A.D. Surrounded by gardens, cypresses, and olive trees, it offers an atmosphere of peace and silence despite its proximity to the busy historic town center. The church is known for its frescoes and bell tower and is situated near the Grottoes of Catullus.
Wonderful small church set high above lake Garda with beautiful views . The church has amazing frescoes and a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. Outside is the huge la Julia bell and war memorial commemorating the fallen of the 2 wars and particularly the 9th September 1943 when Italy surrendered to the Allies. There is also a field gun in the grounds.

This was a little off the main track, but worth it when we got there. Beautiful ancient church building, with wonderful restored frescos and structure. It has an amazing history and location. No cost to enter and stand for a while. (I wonder why they don’t have the description boards in more than one language? I can read about it online, but it would help.)

La Chiesa di San Pietro in Mavino is the oldest church in Sirmione and was built in the 8th century. It is small, but stunning inside and has beautiful frescoes around the internal walls. It was very quiet, peaceful and was a delight to visit.
Keith — Google review
A piece of paradise at the top of Sirmione town. The area is likely to be quiet as it's not known by many tourists, maybe because of its steep approach. Chiesa di San Pietro is surrounded by olive trees and tells stories from different periods of history. This little church was built in the 8th century.⏳ It’s a serene place to visit now, a great escape from the busy streets of Sirmione. The peaceful music inside helps you to breathe the atmosphere and enjoy sitting there for a couple of minutes. There is no entrance fee and it is definitely worth a stop.
Natalia L — Google review
A lovely setting & fabulous old church simple decoration on the interior & wonderful stained glass. The poignant War Memorial is to the left of the church. Away from the crowds but only 800m from the centre & 200m from the Villa Catullo. Well worth a visit if in the area. Returned in 2022 & enjoyed every peaceful minute.
Paul A — Google review
Lovely and simple old church to stop for a while and rest. If you're visiting in the summer, it's nice and cold inside. There are gregorian chants playing in the background. 🙂. It's free to enter with an optional donation.

Nestled in the charming historic center of Sirmione, Ristorante Risorgimento is a culinary treasure that has been delighting diners for over a century. This elegant establishment not only boasts an impressive selection of over 600 wines but also features inviting outdoor dining options, perfect for soaking up the picturesque surroundings.
A perfect place for a meal! The service was professional, attentive, and friendly. The food was excellent, and I was so happy to see vegan options on the menu. The restaurant has a cozy, elegant, and upscale atmosphere. Prices may be slightly higher than other spots in the area, but the experience is on a whole different level—well worth it!

The perfect place for dinner. We stopped here by chance on a Friday night as they had good vegetarian options (didn’t manage to take photos of unfortunately) which is hard to find in this area and wow the food was incredible. The service was professional and friendly. The atmosphere was great not too crowded but busy enough for a lovely vibe. We loved it so much we went back the following evening. This was a lucky find and would highly recommend to anyone who wants top notch food. The price was higher than most places in area but the food, wine & service was worth every bit spent. If you love good quality food the is the place to go.
S W — Google review
I was very excited to try the tasting menu, and unfortunately was quite disappointed. First, I could not taste the ingredients listed in the menu, such as the kimchi with the octopus or the duck in the duck roll. The following food items were bland and did not have much flavour. For such a high price of €92 per person I was expecting something exceeding this quality. I told one of the servers I did not enjoy the food and they offered to bring me another menu item to which I declined - but did not seem like they cared to substitute the dish in the tasting menu itself. However they were attentive in other aspects. Overall, not a good experience. I left, still hungry.
Paola M — Google review
A great find on this trip to Lake Garda. The food quality was unexpected, with the table side plating by the experience waiters amazing. Turbot and lamb were very good. The tiramisu is a must try.

We tested a lot of restaurants in Sirmione but when it comes to fine dining, this is truely the best restaurant in town! Amazing service, delicious food! It's worth every single Euro you spend there! Thank you!!!

It pains me to leave 1 star, but the food was bland and pretty certain we had some stomach issues from the food, fish was very “musty”. Service was good, but way too quick in rushing between courses.

Superb evening at Ristorante Risorgimento. The price point is set in a range that may put some off, however it's justified based on the quality of the cooking. Had the degustation menu with the notable highlights being the octopus, red prawn risotto and rabbit dishes. The inventiveness of the menu was fantastic and delivered with great service. Thoroughly recommend.

Seafood restaurant
This trattoria is hidden away but makes up for it with a classic menu of well prepared dishes that focuses on seafood and freshwater fish. The food is delicious and the service is friendly and helpful.
A long established restaurant for 34 years. The decoration speaks volume of it. The food quality was high and the service was exemplary. The fried sardines were just rightly made and the spaghetti was palatable. They had the salad mixed on the a tray beside the dining table. Very enjoyable lunch.
Les Y — Google review
Really poor food. The mixed fried fish came with hardly any fish. Was mainly squid and mini octopus. Dry and flavourless. The mixed vegetables were so bad for €6.50 too. My partners risotto was also lacking flavour so she had to smother it in parmesan. Really disappointed as others food looked great. Was we unlucky to order two bad meals? But if they're bad they shouldn't be on the menu at all. As risotto lovers and seafood lovers it should have been right up our street. Disappointed to say the least as there are so many options around we could have gone to.
Harry — Google review
Wonderful humble restaurant with reasonable prices in the middle of the tourist area. Good service, easy-going atmosphere. We took risotto red chicoree that was great Salat Pizza that was good Sea bass fillet with citrus that was amazing Bottom line- recommended
Ron B — Google review
Decent food, nothing special. It’s a fish restaurant, but my seafood ravioli seemed to have barely met any seafood – it was very tasty nonetheless. Our youngest got a simple plate of pasta with cheese, which he really enjoyed. Staff was very friendly and service was quick. Small sidenote: there’s no outdoor seating or terrace.
Maite R — Google review
Visited twice on our stay in Sirmione because the service is unmatched. Food was just delicious and fresh. Freshly tossed salad and skinned fish table side. Try reserve a table if you want a specific time, otherwise if you’re flexible like we were, it was fully booked upon our arrival, returning 30mins later for a free table and it’s be worth it. Beautiful seafood dishes that hit the spot just right. Aldo (if I remember correctly) was the perfect waiter who showed what great hospitality should be. We will be back

Nestled in a quaint alleyway, this traditional Italian eatery serve up a good hearty lunch with well priced menu. When you're near the lake, indulging in seafood is a must, and this restaurant didn't disappoint us. Their pasta and risotto dishes featuring fresh seafood were simply delicious. And they take their salad seriously, serving generous portion with well-prepared dressings. Definitely worth a return visit.
Cecilia W — Google review
My wife and I stopped by Al Pescatore for lunch while touring Sirmione on a day trip and were not disappointed. The restaurant was busy but we were greeted with a smile and seated promptly. We got the sautéed octopus and polenta to start off with and we both enjoyed the dish. It was simply made with grape tomatoes and capers but the octopus had a delicate flavor. For the main courses, my wife ordered the seafood pizza which came loaded with seafood. It was really hearty so I had to help her finish it but I didn’t mind at all. I ordered the grilled mixed fish that came with prawns, salmon, bronzini and some other fish (didn’t bother to ask but it was good and no, it doesn’t say what it is on the menu). It comes a la carte so I ordered the mixed grilled vegetables. That came with zucchini, eggplant, a large tomato, and endive (it was a little bitter so that’s what I think it was). I wanted to try their tiramisu but helping my wife finish her pizza spoiled those plans. Overall food and service were very good!

Il Girasole is an informal restaurant located in Sirmione, Lombardy, offering a traditional menu of pasta, pizzas, and an extensive wine selection. Visitors have praised the outstanding food and extremely friendly service at this establishment. The mixed vegetarian antipasti and trio of scallops are highly recommended dishes. While some experienced a slight delay in receiving their orders, they found the overall dining experience to be excellent and would gladly return for another meal.
What a great diner! Everything was literally perfect. It's not something I would say easily. The setting was beautiful, dining in the old centre beneath a tree. The food (we had the spaghetti with truffle, deer filled and sea bass served in pink salted bed) was amazing! Never tasted fish this good. Service was amazing, sweet, thoughtful. Everything you could wish for!

Over two days in Sirmione, this is the best restaurant we had the chance to try out. The primi piatto ravioli with foie gras and ragu was delicious and pizza bresaola truffle nut mozzarella as well (maybe the dough could be slighltly less dry?). The tiramisu was amazing! Incredible taste and texture and the plate was completed with a coffee macaron and red berries. Excellent food and wine in a nice atmosphere. I strongly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent place that's tucked in the corner with great food worth the price! A must try if you're in the town because the meals are not too heavy so you can have it before a boat ride! Must try the tiramisu, it's smooth, light, creamy and it comes with a price of delicious dark chocolate and lemon macaron. The ravioli was also a must try as it is cooked perfectly with a thick bit not fishy paste of scallop. The truffle pasta is great for truffle lovers who love cheese as well! It's a generous serving of truffle along with caviar and it is a lovely dish to get for lunch Overall, great restaurant!

Great food, great lighting inside, service was fantastic. There was a little wait between appetizers and main courses but the vibes between didn’t make it feel too long. Lido delle Bionde is a picturesque beach on the shores of Lake Garda, easily accessible from Sirmione's center. The area is known for its wild and romantic ambiance, with lush vegetation creating a stunning backdrop. The name 'Bionde' has historical roots, originating from a Germanic term meaning fence.
Really very nice service , food and staff. The view there is fantastic right on the beach

Disappointing Experience Despite the Lovely Location I rarely leave negative reviews, but this visit deserves a warning for future diners. While the location is undeniably beautiful and both the food and drinks are genuinely tasty, the overall experience was extremely poor due to shocking service and cleanliness issues. We waited far too long to be seated, and even longer for anyone to take our order. Drinks took an absurd amount of time to arrive—longer than the food itself—which is baffling. To make matters worse, one of our orders was completely forgotten and never arrived. The tables around us were left uncleared for what felt like hours, with leftover food sitting out attracting birds, who pecked at the plates in full view of diners. It was genuinely off-putting and unacceptable from a hygiene perspective. The staff, particularly our waiter, seemed overwhelmed or uninterested—wandering around empty-handed, rarely engaging, and doing little to keep things running smoothly. The inefficiency was obvious and frustrating. It’s a shame, because with such a lovely setting and decent menu, this place could be great. But until they seriously improve their service, efficiency, and cleanliness, I wouldn’t recommend dining here.

Our waiter was very attentive and gave us great recommendations. The lasagna was really good, the seafood risotto was fantastic, the kids chicken nuggets and fries were good, and the Cesar salad was plenty. The day was beautiful and sitting outside was lovely. Fantastic views. The beer and wine were delicious!

Perfect place, very very good food the aglio e olio was 10/10, my friends also said their seafood and lasagna was great. Drinks were great, very nice servers, great vibes and everything. Pretty good prices too. We also received our food quickly which was great

Great ingredients, great taste and look of food served. Quick, helpful and knowledgeable service. The view is great. There are also tables hidden from the elements if raining.

The food, the atmosphere and the service were perfect, all for a reasonable price. Highly recommend this place!

Excellent break between a swim and walks around the lake with refreshing centrifuges and in the evening a superb plate of raw salmon and swordfish accompanied by a glass of delicious white wine. The terrace with a beautiful view on the lake was pleasant for the fresh air which one enjoyed to refresh oneself from the beating sun at lunchtime. However, I've also seen very tempting first courses and fried fish being served.

Probably avoid if you have any food allergies. We tried to come here for lunch but had to leave. My husband said as soon as we asked for a table that he is coeliac, and the first waiter was nice and said they could do something for him. However, the next waiter who came to take our order just shrugged and said 'I'm not a doctor' when we asked which dishes were gluten free. He didn't go and ask the kitchen or anything, didn't seem to care or be trained in dietary requirements. We heard the couple at the next table having the same problem with a shellfish allergy. We decided to leave as my husband didn't feel safe to order anything, which was a shame as the setting by the lake was nice. We instead went to Bon Ton Bistrot where they were amazing
