Samila Beach, also known as Laem Samila, is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The beach offers white sandy shores, shady pine groves, and the iconic golden mermaid statue, making it a prime spot to soak up the sun or take a leisurely swim. Visitors can also indulge in local Thai breakfast from food trucks along the beachfront. Additionally, the area features other attractions such as the Ko Nu and Ko Maeo statues depicting a cat and mouse.
Samila Beach is very clean with nice sand and clean waters. Theres also penty of stores, beach vendors, and access to bathroom for convenience. Mats for rental are also availability for as low as 30 THB all over which is great. Beware of monkies though as they're quite as few around!
Yawarakai O — Google review
Such a great beach, peaceful view, and wonderful venue is carelessly left without proper care and support facilities. Plenty of dirt and refuse is laying around, horses dropping, trash, and uncombed sand everywhere. I wonder why the municipal services are not polishing this gem?
Richard C — Google review
Visited Samila Beach during my trip to Songkhla and it was definitely one of the highlights of my journey. This beach is famous for its stunning coastal view, clean environment, and calm atmosphere, and I can now see why it’s one of the must-visit spots in Songkhla. The environment is beautiful and very well maintained. The sand is soft and fairly clean, which makes it comfortable to walk barefoot along the shore. The sea breeze is refreshing, and the waves are gentle, creating a peaceful vibe that is perfect for a morning or evening stroll. It’s a great place to sit down, relax, and simply enjoy the scenery. If you are into photography, this spot is excellent — especially during sunrise or sunset when the light hits the water just right. One of the iconic features of Samila Beach is, of course, the Golden Mermaid Statue. This statue is one of Songkhla’s most well-known landmarks, and many visitors come here to take pictures with it. There are also some other interesting statues and art installations along the beach, adding to its charm. Even though this is a popular tourist spot, it doesn’t feel overly crowded most of the time, so you can still find a quiet corner to enjoy some peaceful moments. The entire area feels safe and family-friendly, and you can also find food stalls and vendors nearby if you want to grab a snack or a drink while enjoying the view. Overall, I would rate Samila Beach 4 out of 5. It’s clean, well-kept, and provides a relaxing atmosphere that makes it worth visiting. Whether you’re here for a short walk, to take photos, or simply to enjoy the sea breeze, Samila Beach is a place that will leave you with good memories of Songkhla.

Peaceful and beautiful beach, located 40 mins away from Hatyai city. Several stalls selling the souvenir and food there. Seawater is very clear and clean.

Yesterday afternoon I took my family to this famous n popular tourist Samila beach. I was fascinated by the clean n fine sand on the whole stretch of beach. The tall n elegant pine trees lined along the beach. Along the pavement just next to this beach are various stalls selling all kinds of iced drinks n pure whole coconuts to the tourists. The locals are selling their handicraft n all kinds of nuts n some local delicacies. There are about 3 horses for rent to the adventurous n young tourists who want a horse ride along the beach. But the highlight here is the big n imposing bronze statue of a pretty mermaid sitting high up on a rock . She is seen combing her long n beautiful hair. Some tourists are seen hugging her for their photo shoot. There is a legend about this mermaid. She has become an international icon of this Samila bridge in Thailand. Every tourist from far n wide should come n meet her. We had a great time along this Samila beach .
Bee L — Google review
The beach is clean, with white sand and black stone. There's a lot of hawkers selling souvenirs and food/drinks along the path from the main road to the mermaid statue by the beach. If you're Muslim, you can buy food near 7E as they're Muslim hawkers.

Songkhla Old Town, located in the Mueang District, is a heritage district with a rich history dating back 200 years. The area features a blend of Far Eastern and Western architectural styles, including Chinese row houses, Chino-Portuguese classical buildings, and ancient wooden houses adorned with intricate wooden-engraved patterns. These well-preserved structures reflect the town's prosperity in the past and its harmonious mix of cultures.
🌿 Songkhla Old Town – Where Time Slows Down 🏘️ Step into a charming heritage village where history lives in every corner. With its traditional architecture, tranquil streets, and nostalgic vibes, Songkhla Old Town is the perfect blend of culture and calm. ✨ 📍 A must-visit gem in Southern Thailand that feels like home.

We went to only one part of the Songkhla Old Town, ie near the rice warehouse. It was hot and it was tiring to walk around the huge old town. In my opinion, it is good that they preserve this old town cos’ it has lots of heritage values. The colourful murals on the walls give vibrancy to the town making it lively and beautiful. Even the old shops are well spruced up to make it attractive and giving good vibes to the town. A good experience to be here.

Songkhla Old Town is a must-visit, filled with beautiful heritage charm. You’ll find unique wall art, cute Instagrammable cafés, and even a free museum. There’s also a port overlooking Songkhla Lake, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll. Highly recommend spending half a day exploring here.

Great community where you can hop in and out of the cafes and restaurants. The old town streets are home for artists. Architecture and wall paintings represent both old and new generation of creativity.

I like old town, esp those with real people living there and not just a tourist spot. This place is lovely. Lots of food (morning only) and coffee places.

A place with a lot of heritage and culture to explore. Also a lot of nice cafe within the old town to cafe hopping and relax ☺️ However the travel time from hat yai city is around 45-60mins. Grab car cost around 375baht and maxim cost 100 baht lesser :)

History Museums
The Songkhla National Museum is housed in a stunning 1878 Chinese-style mansion located at the northern end of the old town. The museum boasts a vast collection of archaeological finds, folk art, and cultural artifacts. Visitors can explore prehistoric potteries, religious items, and a personal collection of the Na Songkhla family who once ruled over the city.
The Songkhla National Museum is an essential stop for anyone interested in the cultural heart of Southern Thailand. Housed in a beautifully restored Sino-Portuguese mansion that was once the governor's residence, the museum itself is a primary exhibit, offering a glimpse into the region's architectural heritage. Its collection expertly guides visitors through the area's rich history, from prehistoric artifacts and Srivijaya-era Buddhist sculptures to exhibits on the vibrant local Chinese community and traditional shadow puppet theatre (Nang Talung). The curation provides a fascinating narrative of trade, cultural exchange, and daily life. While the displays are highly informative, the true charm lies in the atmosphere of the historic building. It’s a peaceful and educational sanctuary away from the beaches. The entry fee is very reasonable, offering great value. For travelers seeking depth beyond sand and sea, this museum is a must-visit. It provides the crucial context to fully appreciate the unique cultural tapestry of Songkhla and the deep south.
Alphonse E — Google review
The museum was actually only half opened as the main building was closed for renovation. However the rest of the grounds were open for free. We could see the rest around the foyers of the museum but couldn't really immerse into the whole history of the region. Hopefully it would be renovated fully and fully opened to visit the next time we go to visit it.

Small museum full of surprises. We visited the museum without much expectations but we were impressed by the architecture of the old building and the rich artifacts and art works in their collection. We met the guide Mr. Wat who is so passionate to explain everything about the museum and Songkhla to us. He even introduced the famous temples in the city to us.

It is just a small museum but ticket is 200 Bath, I am a foreign visitor. It closes too soon at 4 PM, I like Songthla city but the ticket price is really high.

Most of the museum is closed off, leaving only 1 particular corridor on display. You can still enjoy the gardens thought

There were few visitors when we were visiting and the artefacts were also less numerous than other museums. However our passionate docent Wat (小龙) brought the museum to life as he shared about songkhla’s history and the stories behind the different artefacts. This was made all the more remarkable as he spoke basic English but closed the language barrier with Google Translate to convey more difficult terms to help us fully appreciate the pieces. Thanks for making our visit memorable!

What a gorgeous building inside and outside! Very interesting museum, nice displays of historical artifacts. Captions are in both Thai and English. I learnt a lot about the history of Songkhla going through the various rooms of this beautifully maintained old building. There is also an unexpected cute room about cats as they were so much part of life on boats.

Khao Tangkuan, located west of Khao Noi, is the tallest of the twin hills and offers a funicular for easy access to its summit. Visitors can also climb the staircase for a less challenging ascent. At the top, there's a Buddhist temple and the Sala Phra Wihan Daeng Royal Pavilion with its dramatic Naga staircase. The panoramic views of Songkhla city and the sea are best enjoyed at sunrise or sunset.
Khao Tangkuan is a high mountain, which is about 2.000 feet from sea level. There are 2 option ways: - By elevator at the junction road between Khao Tang Kuan and KhaoNoi. Ticket elevator is 20 bath for children and 30 bath for adult. - Use the stair on the west side which is opposite to the elevator. There are stone stairs and many rest points and viewpoints. You can see the scenery from many levels. There is 145 steps from Naka Stairs to ViharnDaeng. Arrived at the top, there are really beautiful view, amazing place and worth to visit. High recommended!
Ulfah D — Google review
You need to pay 60 Baht to go up the hill via a cable car. Once your there, get your cameras ready to take scenic views of Songkhla, the town and the sea. Probably best times to visit would be during sunrise or sunset and not in the hot afternoon. At the base of the Hill, you will find a lady who sells coconut ice cream. Make sure not to miss it because it's different from the ice cream coconut shake, we Malaysians are familiar with especially when in Malacca.

1 of the simple sightseeing u can see which isn't that far from samila beach. There is a small tram that takes u to the hilltop to see the temple up there. Cost 30baht per adult and 20baht per child. Can't remember but if not mistaken if it's child is less than 90cm it's free. View is nice at the top but aside from that there is frankly nothing much to do here. Qué to get into the tram can get crazy during peak seasons but u probably can skip this for more interesting sights elsewhere

Tangkuan Hill, located west of Khao Noi, is the tallest of the twin hills and offers a captivating experience for visitors. Accessible via a funicular or a manageable stairway climb, the hilltop boasts a Buddhist temple with stunning panoramic views of the skyline, particularly enchanting at sunrise and sunset. The site is home to the Sala Phra Wihan Daeng Royal Pavilion, which dates back to the Nakhon Si Thammarat Empire.
Tickets cost 60baht each adult for the cable car (back and forth). No wait time when taking the cable car up but would need to wait if you want to take the cable car down. The view is stunning as it's facing the sea. There's a place to walk down with quite lot of monkeys but the monkey seems to be gentle so no worries. Would recommend coming to visit with family.

Tang Kuan Hill offers a great view on Songkhla, the lake and the beach. The time you can spend on the hill is limited. The lift costs 60 TB. Afterwards take the time to visit the beach and eat some fresh seafood.
Harald S — Google review
Tang Kuan Hill is worth a visit at least once if you're in Songkhla. The lift ride to the top takes about 5–10 minutes and offers easy access to the hill. At the summit, you can explore a small temple and enjoy panoramic views of the city and the sea. Unfortunately, I couldn’t fully enjoy the scenery due to the intense heat, and there were no staff or facilities available at the top to purchase drinks or find any relief from the weather. It would have been more pleasant if refreshments were available to help with the heat. There isn’t much else to do apart from the view and a short walk around. The return ticket costs 120 baht per adult, which is reasonable for a one-time experience.
Milaa T — Google review
You dont really see much from the base of the hill. The ticket counter is just a basic counter, a few seats for waiting and yes, an elevator. The elevator diagonal climb was slow but there is glass opening at the front and back to view the climb. As most Thailand spots, you are sure to find a wat connected so this is no exeption. Find a beautiful view of the old city here, the vast sea and the hilly countryside. Its actually quite breathtaking. Its a huge soace, so you get to see a little of everything on different cirners. Windy but definitely hot in the afternoon but find tree shades and wild monkeys to accompany your visit. Worth a trip up at oy 60 baht.
Lena Y — Google review
It's great but too many Indians who talk loudly as if they were 50m away except that we are in the elevator, they behave badly which spoils the visit seriously it feels like you visit India, the facilities are old and poorly maintained, there are places where you can fall attention if you have children
Mr B — Google review
The view point Tangkuan hill is located at the southwest end of Songkhla township and allow the views on the ocean, the big lake, Thalee Sap and the citycenter. You could walk up and down or take the lift. Single ride and qalk down for 30 THB, return ride , called roundtrip for 60 THB p.person. The hill is home of multiple families Makakk monkeys. The visit is a must while your visit of Songkhla town.
Philip K — Google review
Fee fr lift up ,take view around the island /monkeys surrounding during feed.Suggest drinking fresh coconut in front the gate way
Charlie A — Google review
You need to pay to go upside of the hills. It’s not even not that expensive so it’s worth to visit. Beware of the monkeys, they might steal your food or drinks. There’s nothing much to see at the top of the hills, but if you’re into the views, it’s good. There’s no maps and explanations on what is the statue about, so we need to learn by ourselves through Google search. It is good if they have some kind of explanation for each of the statues there so that we can get some new knowledge and information about the statues there.

Crown Bakery in Songkhla is a popular spot offering a full food menu, including Thai and Chinese dishes at local prices. The eatery also features a bakery with various desserts and a cozy ambiance adorned with ornaments for sale. It's known for its indoor seating, making it a sought-after option at the beach. Customers appreciate the variety of choices on the menu, from baked rice to Tom Yum soup and different types of cakes.
I love this eatery. It offers Thai and Chinese cooking at reasonable local prices, and also bakery and desserts, surrounded by all sorts of ornaments (some for sale, while others serve as the eatery’s interior decor). There’s even a fish tank! How many restaurants still have this? (This used to be quite common for Chinese restaurants back in the day, sort of reflecting and harnessing the flow of life within the premises). Here, these ornaments seem to come from around the world (or at least it looks that way, or represents them coming from different cultures). There are ornaments that reflect Japanese, Russian, Chinese, European, and even ancient Egyptian! Great food too. I ordered the baked rice with shrimp and chicken. Yummy!

Had baked rice with chicken with pork floss(80THB) & Tom Yum Soup with chicken(150THB). In addition, there were few types of cakes available too. The setting of this eatery is cosy with sentimental English songs. It's worth a visit to dine in.

Cafe' Der See Nakornnok is a charming spot situated in the Old Town of Songkhla, offering a wide selection of traditional Thai dishes and beverages including coffee and local as well as German beers. The cafe has an artistic ambiance with various paintings displayed in the main area. However, the most captivating feature is its lakeside porch providing a stunning setting to enjoy your meal or drink.
I am from Songkhla province. But I never knew this cafe and restaurant until I returned to Songkhla. This is my first time here. I was very hungry and ordered from the menu, but I forgot to take a picture. After I ate, I still relaxed and enjoyed the atmosphere. The food is tasty.

Quaint and cozy little place by the water. Menu was extensive, price affordable but serving size was a tad bit small. Do note, food ordered 'small size' is really for 1 to 2 person serving only lol. Waiters needs a bit more training as they brought food to the wrong table. Great place to come for dinner when the lights are turned on in the evenings. Read somewhere in IG that there is also live music. Overall, will definitely come by again for a meal.

What's great? The outdoor lake view! Do sit nearest to the lake. If too hot, you can ask to be in Aircon region, there is an interesting boat table inside you can sit in. What to improve? Food is acceptable, not fantastic. Drinks are too sweet. Pot of Tea is the best. Can skip the prawn dishes, not the freshest. Visit again? Yes.

Such a beautiful view of Lake Songkhla! We were welcomed by very friendly and attentive staff, although there was a slight language barrier but they still handled everything professionally. The shop is clean and comfortable with both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is quite varied, offering local Thai dishes and western options. We ordered Kra pao, pad thai and fried rice. Food tasted authentic and flavourful, with bursts of spiciness, sweetness and savouriness all at once. there’s a hint of sourness which makes them even more appetizing. The prices are reasonable for their Thai cuisine (western are a little overpriced) and the portions are generous.

A Hidden Gem by Songkhla Lake This cafe offers one of the best views of Songkhla Lake—perfect for a relaxing coffee break or sunset meal. The atmosphere is peaceful and scenic, with a lakeside breeze that makes it hard to leave. The food is delicious and well-presented, with a mix of Thai and Western options. Portion sizes are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and setting. It definitely feels like great value for money. Whether you’re looking for a quiet brunch spot or a chill evening hangout with a view, Cafe Der See won’t disappoint. Highly recommended if you’re in the area!

Visited Cafe Der See during my trip to Songkhla, and it was such a pleasant stop. This café is a lovely little gem with a relaxing vibe and a stunning view, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a slow afternoon by the water. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. They greeted us with a smile, took our orders politely, and served everything in a timely manner. It made the whole experience smooth and welcoming. The environment is one of the highlights of this café. It’s comfortable, spacious enough to not feel crowded, and has a very nice view of the water. The seating is arranged in a way that allows you to enjoy the scenery while sipping your drink. It’s a great spot to chill, chat with friends, or just enjoy some quiet time by yourself with a book. Price-wise, I found it very reasonable. The food portions match the price, so it feels fair for what you’re getting. We tried the coffee, tea, and some cake — and everything tasted good. The coffee was nicely brewed, smooth, and aromatic. The cake was moist and not overly sweet, which paired perfectly with the drinks. The tea was also quite nice, refreshing, and served at the right temperature. What makes Cafe Der See special is its unique location and view. Being able to sit and enjoy the calmness of the sea while having a cup of coffee makes the visit feel more special and memorable. Overall, I would rate Cafe Der See 4 out of 5. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy a good cup of coffee with a beautiful view. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Songkhla and looking for a cozy, scenic café to relax in.

It's a bit far to walk to the main busy street in Songkhla. It's nearby some pubs and massage places though, so it's probably more suitable for farang people. The room condition is okay, except the bed mattress is really, really hard and uncomfortable, it feels like you're lying on the floor. Delicious beef noodles, both soup and dry, with reasonable price. Tried the black sticky rice ice cream which was unexpectedly delicious. Our favorite ice cream so far. Want to try the fried rice next time.

Been enjoying this noodle place since the first time I came to songkhla (2004) and it’s still one of my favourites for a classic beef boat noodle. The place is always clean and tiny. Fresh ingredients and the taste has been the same. I recommend having their homemade coconut ice cream 🍨 after the meal. Unusual but great combo!

One of the best beef noodles in Songkhla. Theb lady owner is very friendly, can speak a bit of mandarin and hokkien dialect. The coconut ice cream was very tasty and creamy too, The price is reasonable, 5 of us spent 500 baht.

Wow! Very nice. Generous portions of beef slices n beef chunks. Slightly sourish n tasty soup base makes it an awesome combination bowl of Thai beef noodles soup.

Loved every dishes we had! This type of authentic noodle places are often overlooked by most foreigners. Highly recommended! After all, eat like the locals is what travelling/discovering is all about! Oh, don't forget to wash it all down with coconut ice cream!

The long established beef noodles stall in Songkhla. Famous among locals. Other than beef noodles, they serve sea bass and salmon fried rice. Ice cream and shwebet are on dessert menu. I ordered dried beef noodles which was too sweet. The small bowl of soup was served together then. The broth had rich flavour and aroma of Chinese herbs. It went along great with noodles and save the meal. Because of the savouring soup, the second bowl of soup noodles was called to quench my satisfaction. Not so bad. Just emphasized on sweetness when order.
