National Parks
Cát Bà Island is the largest island in Ha Long Bay and is known for its diverse natural ecosystems, including marine and terrestrial habitats. The island is home to a national park that covers about half of its area, providing a sanctuary for the highly endangered Cat Ba langur. With limestone karsts, tropical forests, coral reefs, mangroves, and more, Cát Bà boasts high biodiversity.
Stunning and anyone who says otherwise has no appreciation for earths natural beauty. Yes there is a lot of construction going on BUT there is also so much stunning flora and fauna alongside life changing mountainous views unlike anything I’ve ever seen with my own eyes before
Mia M — Google review
Construction going on atm until 2030 at the front but if you take scooter you see beautiful beaches and coast - it’s just one part of the island when there’s so many other wonderful treasures that the island offers
Zuzanna K — Google review
Lots of construction on main beach - no access to beach and a sky full of cranes….id give this place a miss till they finish the work over the next 5 years. We stayed long enough to do a bay day tour (excellent) but the vibe on the main drag sort of ruined it we left a day early
Drinkwater F — Google review
I excepted more, but Cat Ba island is not really what I thought. Everything in the main island is quite basic, constructions, overpriced restaurants, not good quality seafood (some still nice but not all),… Only thing I can enjoy more is going to see the sea with the boat tour: nice sea with sunny light, you can take nice pictures and can go swimming there too, visit some caves bypass,… Think 3 days is enough to visit there.
Thanh L — Google review
Amazing experience in my life time . Thanks for preserving it . Enjoyed each and every moment starting from yatch cruise , swimming , banana boat ride
Shalif A — Google review
Beautiful island but massive construction projects, lack of infrastructure general confusion makes it not worth visiting right now Insanely noisy do to huge construction project larger than the existing city. Every cruise or tour I scheduled got cancelled (4 in a row) so unless you’re planning on just eating, drinking and listening to jackhammers all day probably avoid it for now.
Jason D — Google review
I really like this place very beautiful and peaceful, on the main island of Cat Ba there is a small town, but quite modern. People here live by seafaring and tourism, they are trying to catch up with the hustle and bustle of tourists from outside arriving on the island. However, the service here is not always good, when experiencing the restaurant here you should pay the price before ordering.
Thiep P — Google review
A picturesque place. Peaceful calm, ideally for both couples and family. Best part is it is also very budget friendly. You can spend a week in less than 500 dollars for a couple while staying in good hotels and good food

Cat Ba National Park, located on the island of the same name, is a vast and diverse natural reserve. Encompassing lush forests, limestone peaks, mangroves, and marine waters, the park boasts an impressive array of flora and fauna with over 1,500 species. Visitors can spot rare animals such as the endangered white-headed langur and enjoy birdwatching with 160 bird species in the area.
The tour guide is very nice and skillful. His name is Anh and he can edit the video and make a very good video tearing the tracking break time, even though it was not included in the, and he support whole journey. He will provide a lot of things if you do not have for example like some Band-Aid and also give enough time and let you to enjoy the whole journey. the national Park is amazing you can see different landscape. the jungle the rock road, some very narrow street, muddy road and the pond different kind of animal insect. For example, a lot of spider and even snake. The food also amazing and valuable, and you can refill all your energy in that village After that, you will do the cycling very beautiful scenery along the road. then we'll take a boat. The boat will go through a very long way and you enjoy the scenery along the way you won't feel the time you won't feel the distance because it's too beautiful And we also did the kayaking, which was great and then swimming also amazing. Encourage you to join this trip.

We were at this national park the other day. It was a rainy day, hence walking and climbing was not easy as some areas were slippery. Nice view and a nice and peaceful place. The museum was also nice and informative.

🌿 Cat Ba National Park – Amazing Experience! 🌿 Cat Ba National Park was absolutely amazing. The hike up to Ngu Lam Peak was a bit tough at times, but 100% worth the effort. The views from the top were out of this world – lush green mountains, deep valleys, and scenery that feels untouched. If you’re visiting Cat Ba Island and enjoy nature or hiking, this is a must-do. Just bring water, good shoes, and be ready for a climb. Totally unforgettable experience!
Chris C — Google review
Of you want to enter the Walking area, tot need to buy a ticket (120.000), it is also the entrance fee for the caves 1km from the entrance. The park is old, but the nature is beautiful, the "zoo" has some rabbits, Ducks and other easy animals, they don't look happy. The walk to the top is steep, hot and slippery, but real Vietnam jungle and worth it.
Jan S — Google review
It's possible to hike the trek alone without a guide to Viet Hai Village, but the path is challenging, good shoes, fitness and hiking experience would be good, some bits need to be climbed and throughout thick jungle, watch daylight hours! Takes about 2-3 hours. Ask the woman by the first restaurant after the path ends for a boat taxi back to cat ba, her sister will come pick you up in a small old fisher boat at the harbour 4km away from the village (1 hour walk), best experience to see the iconic islands and floating fisher village without some overcrowded tourist boat tour.
Luisa P — Google review
25th November Entrance fee 160k vnd/person There is a toilet near the entrance to the park Short trail: it took us 1hour to finish it a trail (both ways). Just before trail starts to climb up there is a restaurant/shop where you can buy water, snacks etc Long trail: for first two kilometres from the gate there is a construction site and a new sidewalk, after that jungle path begins. It took us 3 hours from the park gate to the village (without navy peak). We did few short water and photo breaks. Scrambling begins after the frog lake (more like a big puddle of dirty water). Don’t expect many landscape views, you mostly walk surrounded by jungle. In the village you can drink or eat something, all the spots were empty. Bike rent 40k/person. Bikes are old and barley working, but there were enough to finish this short ride. On the pier there is a noisy lady which offers you a boat trip back to Ben Beo - negotiate price. It’s some kind of side job for boat companies, you will be placed on a boat which heads back to city.
Andrzej L — Google review
Good for an hour or 2! Hike was not too difficult, any able bodied person can do it. We did it in 45 minutes (me and 2 kids) and there were loads of other children. Bring water as you cannot buy any after the start of the walk (there is a small restaurant at the start, but nothing after that). Long sleeves or trousers not needed I'd say (too hot) but mosquito repellent definitely yes. Beautiful view over the surrounding area. The entry fee is low and includes Trung Trang cave a little further down the road (1 km). There is a small museum with creepy animals, too. Kids loved those ;-)
Katleen V — Google review
Really nice hike! We bought the 120,000 ticket for a combined national park + Trang trung cave. The hike was challenging in a good way for me, about 1hr to reach the top. There are steep stairs, rocks that poke you, and tree branches to form the hiking trail. At some point you need to sit down to go down a step. If you're used to hiking then this should be easy for u! Near the bottom is a shop that sells cool drinks and t shirts. No water coolers.

Caverns & Caves
Trung Trang Cave, nestled just 1km south of the Cat Ba National Park center, is a stunning natural wonder that draws in countless visitors each year. This expansive cave system spans approximately 300 meters and showcases an array of captivating stalactite and stalagmite formations that have been sculpted over millennia. As you wander through its intricate chambers, you'll be transported into a world where nature's artistry reigns supreme.
You can buy a ticket from the Cat Ba National Park to also include this cave for 120,000 dong. The cave is amazing. Pure silence inside, the serene sound of water dripping, beautiful cave formations. Just enough light to paint shadows on the textured walls. Unfortunately I didn't stay long inside enough to fully admire everything :( but would definitely go again! And apparently you can park your motorcycle for free near the exit (you will exit a different path the entrance).
Chu X — Google review
Taxi dropped me at Trung Trang cave. Ticket was 120k. Young guy at ticket office spoke very good English. He said it takes about 15-20 minutes easy walk. I walked about 100 metres down path then right up stairs to cave entrance. Well lit cave with good path inside. Narrow in one place, turn sideways to get through. Also some low areas, where you will be squatting down or on your hands and knees, depending on how good your knees are. Easy walk. Nice rock formations inside. At the end you will see some Bats on the ceiling of the cave chilling out. There's two types of Bats in the area. You then walk the exit path. There's a cafe near end of the path near the road. Beers and drinks for sale. My taxi driver was waiting for me there and we continued onto the Hospital cave a few minutes away. Not a big cave, but a good little walk.
Kevin L — Google review
It was a nice hike and walk through the cave. Super humid but it was fun walking through with my friends. We went with Mon Cherie Cruise and they were pretty good with their services.
Trompoly S — Google review
This was worth a visit in that it didn't feel like your typical large cave with lots ot stalagmites and stalictites. The entrance is accessed after walking up an external staircase that has great views. You then enter a reasonably spacious cave area. However the route through the caves leads through some quite small passages, some you'll have to crouch to get through, so maybe not best for the very claustrophobic.
G T — Google review
Entrance is free if you've been to the National Park. The caves are worth seeing, they are well lit and walkways are good. You can enjoy a meal and drinks at the restaurant on exiting the caves.
Jenny D — Google review
This place was amazing! The alleged history of the trung Trang sisters made this a must stop for me, and it felt so powerful and eerie to walk where they once walked. I just wish the history was more evident there, because it seemed like everyone else was just there to see a big cave, but they didn’t know the legend of the land and how historic this spot was to cat ba
Bella G — Google review
Very beautiful cave and a decent size too. Not far from the road but quite a few stairs if for someone with mobility issues.
Pat T — Google review
220 Meter before being the restaurant is the exit without check. If you missed you can still go from there to the cave for free. I just meet one and he missed the day before. Ticket is 120k for cave and the sightseeing walk some km fare. 160k for also the village but there you need the whole day he said.

Đỉnh Ngự Lâm is a beautiful viewpoint that offers a challenging hike. The trail requires proper mountaineering shoes, especially when wet, as it can be steep and technical in some spots. While the hike to the two peaks is not very long, it can be quite challenging due to the uphill terrain. The end of the trail gets a bit tricky, but those with hiking experience should manage fine. The view from the top is described as amazing and definitely worth the effort.
Highly recommended! The hike to the summit and back should take you between 1.5 and 2 hrs. Few steep sections but plenty of places to take a rest if you need to. Wear good hiking shoes though! breathtaking view from the top! Parking by ticket office cost 5000 dong, better than free across the road where you're than forced to buy drinks.
Koos G — Google review
I highly recommend doing this short hike. It's very easy to do it on your own I followed an All Trail circular route. You take the motorbike and leave it at the National Park 's entrance. This ticket is valid for the view point and for the cave that is super nice too. It was warm when I went but I still couldn't see a lot on the top. It was well worth it though the jungle is amazing!!!
Eszter S — Google review
Nice hike with beautiful view at the top. Come before 17:00 if you want to see the sunset. The route takes 45min. Go with shoes (no flipflops) because the path is quite steep with sharp rocks. Bring lots of water (you can buy some on the way there is a shop on the path) because its going to be very hot and humid but totaly worth it. There is also 120k entrance fee.
Anže M — Google review
Entry was 120k for the peak + trung Trang cave. The way up is relatively short with amazing views at the top and many butterflies (at least during August) and other small animals on the way. I would bring mosquito repellent.
Nachshon E — Google review
A roughly 1km hike. Some parts are rather slippery and steep, a little bit dangerous at the top, it will be much more pleasant if you take your time to enjoy the nature and give yourselves time to recover. The view at the top is amazing, definitely worth it. Entrance fee is 120k VNĐ (including entrance to Trung Trang Cave which is about 1km from the National Park's gate), plus 5k if you go there by bike, the parking lot also offers a storage cabinet if you want to leave your backpack behind for the hike (additional 5k for each unit).

The trip is perfect for families and young people who likes challenges. My family and I went to the top of the mountain. The path is around 3-4 km and is very rocky. Highly recommend!!
Thong H — Google review
Getting here is quite challenging, but it's worth the effort, the view is the best, and it's also a good walk down. Best advice: bring plenty of water.
Minh T — Google review
I went to climb to viewpoint as it was included in price for cave, markings for track not clear and only made it to seated area in photo, there were a couple of tracks leading in different directions but looked like they hadn't been used for a while. Airing on the side of caution decided to come down rather than risk dehydration, passing out or something even more dire. I found this hard going and I was totally drenched in sweat when returning to ticket office.

Đỉnh Kim Giao is a part of the Ngu Lam Summit Route in Cat Ba National Park, offering an adventurous trek for young travelers. Green Mango Restaurant is a charming seaside eatery located on Cat Ba Island in Ha Long Bay. It offers a diverse menu featuring Western cuisine and limited Vietnamese options, including classic fish and chips, juicy burgers, upscale dishes like lamb shank, and fresh seafood. The restaurant is popular among tourists for its incredible view of the harbor. Guests can choose to dine outdoors or in a trendy indoor setting while enjoying fusion food, tapas, main courses, and delectable desserts.
While in Cat Ba, we ate all our meals at Green Mango. The food is so good, it's ridicules. We tried about 10 dishes, deserts, cocktails - each one was outstanding. The staff hardly speaks English and not so understanding - but the taste tops it all. They deserve to be #1.

Loved, loved, loved the food here. We ate here twice and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The banana smoothie was absolutely delicious and I definitely recommend trying it👌🏻. We also had the BBQ which we really enjoyed, and that was for a good price. We celebrated my birthday here and we loved the atmosphere. They should have more customers for what they offer. ❤️

My wife and I patronized this restaurant/bar three times while we were staying in Cat Ba. Our host Jake, is an excellent bartender and suggested some the bars notable cocktail's. We tried the Popcorn cocktail as well as the Pho cocktail. Both are excellent but the Pho was unlike any I've ever had before. Jake actually showed us how the base for the cocktail is made and lets just say there were a lot of flames involved . We very much enjoyed our visits to the friendly environment of this establishment and would highly recommend to everyone. Two thumbs up. Cheers

The Little Leaf, or Tiệm Lá Nhỏ, offers a delightful dining experience with its fresh and flavorsome Vietnamese dishes. While the steak may not be recommended, the stir fries and other Vietnamese specialties are highly recommended for their tastiness. The restaurant provides a cozy atmosphere with board games and books available for entertainment. Moreover, the delicious black coffee and caramel coffee are worth trying. Although communication may be challenging, Google Translate can assist in overcoming language barriers.
Loved the food here, best burrito I have had for a while- super tasty and filling!! The service was lovely and attentive, Huong was our server and gave us a little gift when we left which was extremely sweet. Would recommend as a breakfast place before your cruise adventures.

We stumbled upon The Little Leaf Restaurant on our first night, initially just stopping by for their coconut ice cream. The dessert was refreshing and delicious, but what really stood out was the warm and friendly service—it made such a good impression that we decided to return the next day for lunch. For our meal, we ordered the grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce and the chicken burger. The burger was a highlight: juicy, flavorful, and made even better with a unique Vietnamese sauce that added a tasty twist. The grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce was exactly as expected—well-cooked, savory, and satisfying. Both dishes came with a generous portion of fries, which were crisp and well-seasoned. The only minor downside was the salad, which was a bit heavy on the dressing. Still, the overall dining experience was very pleasant. The staff remained consistently polite, helpful, and attentive, which made our return visit feel just as welcoming as the first. Definitely a charming little spot worth visiting!

What an amazing place! Great decor, our breakfast/brunch was so tasty, and the service was incredible! Especially from Mai huong who even gave us a little Vietnam flag hair clip to wear for the rest of our travels around Vietnam! 🇻🇳 such a lovely touch. We went there for lunch and got pretty disappointed. We ordered a 3 person combo meal with steak and hot pot. The steak was the worst steak I have ever seen. It looks good from the inside, but the outside just looks like the steak got cooked in boiling water. It was really really chewy and warm. We threw it into the hotpot later, for it to be atleast edible. The rest was pretty standard and I think other dishes might be better here. The service was kind and the store had a nice vibe.

The first time I came here, I tried the Seafood Soup, and it was absolutely delicious. It had a comforting taste, with shrimp, mushrooms, squid, and even clams. The portion size was also very filling. The staff speak English well, are friendly, relaxed, and very welcoming. Great service! THE BEST in town!

i loved this place! we got here on a friday evening just after a taifun warning, so the streets were completely empty, as was the restaurant. we got excellent service, and our food arrived extremely quickly. i had the vegetarian pho, which by far was the best vegetarian pho i’ve ever tried, simply because it was finally a broth that tasted like something! also, the price was so so good for a massive bowl. i can also really recommend the haiphong local beer.

The best restaurant I’ve found in Cat Ba! Amazing food, reasonable prices, and a lively vibe with both locals and travelers. I tried the Carbonara Spaghetti with Mushroom creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced. Their menu is diverse, offering vegetarian options, local dishes, and a bar. The staff are warm, attentive, and fluent in English, making the whole experience even better. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Cat Ba—trust me, you’ll love it! 🍽🌟

Absolutely love this place and I've eaten most days whilst in Cat Ba. There is a good selection of Vietnamese and Western food (for those needing a change). Food is fresh and staff are lovely. Also reasonable prices!

Nice place for dinner - wide range of options, Vietnamese food and also some western food options if you fancy pizza/pasta/burgers. A separate vegetarian menu which I appreciate. The Vietnamese food we had was delicious and came very quickly. Friendly staff too. Thank you!

Pretty restaurant, nice kind service, wide choice of meals, the spring rolls were amazing, so were the shrimps, beef stew could have a bit deeper taste...

The Tinh Tam Quan - Buddha Belly Travel - Vegetarian Restaurant in Vietnam offers incredible vegan cuisine. It is regarded as the finest in the country. The service provided by the staff is exceptional, with prompt attention from a waiter who may not speak English fluently but can be assisted by an English-speaking person in charge. Despite some negative reviews, it is possible that the establishment has made changes to its staff.
Awesome vegan food. The best we tried so far in Vietnam. The service was amazing. The waiter approached us as soon as we got to the place. She didn't know English at all, that's correct, but the person in charge speak good English. I read some bad reviews about this place after I've been there and I'm just thinking maybe they changed the staff... For those of you who keep Kosher, we were found this Hechsher on the door. 😜

OK place. Quite affordable food, with 2 different-sized set menus for 30k and 50k. Service lacks English, but lunch was filling. Tried the veg burger the other day as well - not sure about it, wasn’t really what you’d expect, but at least it was big.

Ignoring the bad reviews we tried this place as we we were looking for a vegan meal. This place might have had a cool vibe someday, but this day must be long time ago. Everything looked dirty and the burger was cheap and tasted not good at all. The fries were over soft and the bun of the burger was undefinable. The bathrooms were awful. This place truly needs a makeover. But the staff was nice, even if they hardly understood a word of English.

Delicious vegan/vegetarian food, for the best price. We ate here 4 times and were amazed. The food is so good and cheap and the atmosphere was totally chill. My favourite was the Burger , but everything else was great too. There was nothing we could wish for more. Also we got fruits as a present. :)

Delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes. Incredibly friendly people who truly put their heart into their food and service. Much love!

Really great Vietnamese food that happens to be vegetarian! I'm a vegetarian but my husband isn't, so we saved this for our last meal in Cat Ba. After four days of largely trying to be grateful when restaurants had veggie options, while watching my husband savor his food, I thought Buddha Belly was worth a try but figured it would be more of the bland youth-hostel-style food offered elsewhere in town. Instead, we were both pleasantly surprised to have one of our best meals in the country. My husband even rated it up in his top 3 meals of the trip. They didn't just leave out the meat; they took the time to develop complex flavors. My only regret is that we didn't come sooner. A must-visit, even for carnivores.
