Museums
Discover the wonders of science and technology at the Catawba Science Center in Hickory, NC. This 35,000-square-foot museum offers interactive exhibits, freshwater and saltwater aquariums, a digital planetarium theater, and permanent displays like Gross Labs, Nano, Energy Avenue, Outdoor Science Courtyard, Naturalist Center, Treehouse Adventure, and Velocity.
I planned my son’s 3rd birthday party here at the science center and it was a wonderful experience. I paid for the big room in the planetarium to have his party, decorations, cupcakes, snacks and drinks. They ordered cupcakes from Lowes foods and they were great and very cute! They gave my son a science center shirt and he got to pet a turtle, snake, and a hissing cockroach! They also brought out the tarantula. It was very cool and informative. The ladies that set everything up for us were so sweet! This was a great party and they took away a lot of stress of planning a party and setting up. I would recommend to anyone that has a curious child who loves learning! My son already loved coming to the science center.

We visited the Science Center for my birthday and was blown away by the amazing staff. Very knowledgeable about all the animals and very personable. We talked with Mindy and we didn’t catch the other lady’s name but she had short hair and has been working there for three years they were both very passionate about their jobs there and made the experience very memorable. Definitely plan to come back at some point. ❤️🥰 also definitely liked the tactile 3-D printed Maps around the building have never seen that in any other Science Center thought that was a very nice touch. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

The Catawba Science Center is located next to the Hickory Art Museum in the SALT complex, so I stopped here, too. It was about $15 to visit the museum. I had reciprocity but didn't think to ask about it, and they didn't ask like is done at the other museums. The Science Center was on the small side, and a lot of the exhibits were out of order. The exhibits they had seemed geared more to younger children. So there wasn't a lot there. I never found my way to the aquarium, as that is apparently in another building, and that was not mentioned. The planetarium show wasn't starting until 2 pm so that was disappointing. I will go back with my reciprocity to see the building I missed

Fun science center for all ages. Lots of interactive and interesting exhibits. Staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. There’s always a staff member in each exhibit to answer questions and spark curiosity. Nice outdoor area for eating lunch and admission includes entrance to the art museum across the way. I highly recommend if your kids are truly into science. Will definitely be back for more.

This place is big snd offers lots to do! We met some tortoises, a ray and sand sharks, and then explored an exhibit on more tortoises and turtles. The best part might have been the butterfly exhibit, where our 8-year-old made several butterfly friends. Great experience!

Had lots of fun and enjoyed the planetarium show! Everyone was very nice 😁
Lindsay C — Google review
The wife and I took our son there today earlier and he loved it. I think the aquarium was the highlight for him. He loves looking at the fish and trying to touch them. They had a decent size sting ray and some nursing sharks that you could touch. They had there butterfly exhibit open today which was pretty cool. Our son enjoyed watching them fly around and landing on the flowers. Just about all the exhibits we're open today and they were having a few shows in the planetarium. They weren't that busy when we got there and we got there about twelve thirty. Good place for elementary age children plenty of hands on activities to do. Our son played with everyone of them. I give them my two thumbs up.

An expensive disappointment :( the online photos look much more modern and bright than reality. My biggest issue is that SO MUCH is broken or not working, and it looks like nothing in the museum part has been updated since first installed. For $64 for my three kids and self, that was a major letdown (especially seeing in old reviews that this has been a known problem for over a year). The planetarium was what I was most excited to bring the kids to, and wow was it bad. Again, video quality as if from the 90s (I mean BAD animation) with really poor visibility as if the “brightness” was turned way down on the screens - and for a place geared toward children, the vocabulary and information in the extreme planets video was not child-friendly in the slightest. The aquarium was dim and musty, and the water looked like it was covered in scum in one open area. One of the staff was quite friendly but all the others didn’t offer so much as a “hello” to us. The temporary puzzle exhibit was loads of fun, and the only reason for the two stars. We will not return or recommend to fellow homeschoolers.

Cool place to visit. Had a Very Good time and it’s Free. Come check this out if you’re into planes and weapon systems. Cool old military uniforms and helmets. Staff is amazing

Such a cool place to check out! We are local and come several times a year and we always learn something new! Their staff is amazing, very knowledgeable and they love answering all our kids questions!

Nice place with planes of the golden age of aviation! Was there in Sept. 2025 and some were moved already to the new location. The staff is super friendly and they have always time for a talk! I will return definitely when the new location opens!

Very interesting collection of models and memorabilia as well as actual aircraft. Indoor displays cover history of US military aviation, outside 1950s to 2000. Friendly staff, good for kids.
Paul W — Google review
I really enjoyed when I saw the airplane and known all the information about it There’s great details and stories It’s for free but you should to pay a tip
Shams M — Google review
Excellent museum. Fantastic volunteers some of which will give you first hand experiences from their time in those aircraft.
L G — Google review
Love the people and their knowledge of the planes! It was great that they gave tours for our homeschool group.
Michele M — Google review
My family and I went to the museum and we had so much fun! The planes on the ground were awesome to look at, and we even got to tour one that was just recently retired. We had lunch at the café and the food there was awesome! Sadly, the café will be closing October 24, 2025, but the museum is still worth going to. The museum has lots of exhibits and things to see. We had a great time and would definitely recommend it to any aviation enthusiast or anyone in general who just likes to look at airplanes. 😊

Museums
Located in downtown Hickory, the Hickory Museum of Art is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. Established in 1944, it is the second oldest museum in North Carolina and features a diverse collection of American art from the 19th to the 21st century. The museum showcases contemporary Southern folk art by local self-taught artists alongside rotating exhibitions featuring both local and national artists. Visitors can explore hundreds of paintings, sculptures, glass art, pottery, and more.
Wonderful place. The building is beautiful, the exhibits are thoughtful, the people who work here are fantastic. The gift shop prices are super reasonable. I’ll definitely be back!

We love checking out art museums and were not prepared for the incredible Catawba Native American exhibit. We spent 2 hours stunned by the entire three floors. The pottery, the characters, the video, the photographs with the members stories and following the Catawba River on the upper floor. Knowing that the youth did not know their heritage and are now even learning their native language, as well as the adults doing the same. We were only passing through on our way to our home in Atlanta and felt such joy that we had stopped. Hoping that we can return but it looks like the exhibit is over August 31. We met the new art director who was very engaging and informative. Thank you for the wonderful memories and even the tears.
Joel B — Google review
The Hickory Museum of Art is located at the SALT complex, which was once a high school gymnasium. Both admission and parking are free and if the lot in front is full there is a huge lot in the back. The Hickory Museum of Art just celebrated its 80th Anniversary. The museum is on three levels and they have curvy staircases, regular staircases, and an elevator. I used each during my visit as the curvy stairs made me dizzy, so I opted for the elevator to the 3rd floor and found the regular stairs. Besides, in the big open spaces, there is also art to be found in the nooks and crannies of the art portion of the building. There are also hands-on areas for children. I really enjoyed the In Memoriam exhibit of Joe LaFone. I do not believe I had seen his work before, but I loved the vibrant colors of the work as well as the textures. It grabbed my attention and made me smile. I believe there are permanent and changing exhibits, so that means a return trip to see the new artwork and discover another artist new to me.
Rebecca M — Google review
We drove the hour from Winston-Salem to see the Virgil Ortiz Indigenous Ancestral Memory "I x A M" and the contemporay Catawba artists exhibits, which run through the end of August 2025. I found both very powerful. In spite of how we teach indigenous culture in school, it is not something that only exists in the past, starting with European colonization of the Americas. Not only is there is a vast history prior, but many of the indigenous nations still exist and have cultures distinct from the mainstream. These exhibits are poignant reminders of that. They were well worth the drive. Much of the Catawba exhibit was a series of statements from artists, both professional and amateur. I snapped photos and read them later in a more comfortable setting. I found myself envious of the community they all described, as I think most of us should be. Virgil Ortiz's exhibit defies explanation and is an experience for multiple senses. Mr Ortiz seems to be a shining example of a polymath, being far more than a simple Pueblo potter. He is an historian, a story teller, science fiction enthusiast, fashion designer, and more. Those two exhibits deserve 5 stars. The museum unfortunately deserves only 3. It is impressive that they pulled in someone as popular as Virgil Ortiz, and they created a lovely Catawba exhibit to accompany his. However, we saw virtually nothing of a permanent exhibit space and therefore must wonder what the museum offers when not hosting large traveling exhibits. Also, though we spoke at length with people as we signed in, no one mentioned that the museum and the gift shop were closing early for a funeral. It also was not on the website. Most annoying, there was a video of an interview with Ortiz that had been highly recommended by multiple people, but it was located within the administrative workspace, where people were chatting the entire time. For some reason, no one had thought to turn on close captioning. In the end, we gave up. In conclusion, if you read this review in August 2025, try to get to the museum, but you may want to call in advance. After that, I have no recommendation.

Emjoyed the Virgil Ortiz installation , but its last day is 7/31/25. Free admission, donations accepteded, knowledgeable older staff (the younger female not as friendly as the others)

Place can be confusing at first to walk through if you have never been before. There are 2 separate buildings to go through and it's well worth the money. The art musuem is free with a donation box at the front of the building. There's a force's of motion portion for kids, and a building that has different types of animals and information. Great place for all ages but geared towards small kids.

I love this art museum!! It's cute and Stephanie is fabulous I could talk to her all day !! She has great energy love it ! But go check out the Virgil Ortiz exhibit I love it so much I've been a few times !! It's ending soon !

Nature & Parks
Bakers Mountain Park, located at the highest point in Catawba County, offers a fantastic opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to immerse themselves in nature. With nearly 200 acres of mixed hardwood forest and an abundance of wildlife, visitors can enjoy hiking and biking along the six miles of scenic trails. The park's diverse flora, including mature Chestnut Oak and Mountain Laurel, provides a picturesque backdrop for outdoor activities.
This park is a fantastic destination for a hike. I spent a sunny afternoon exploring the Bakers Mountain Trail Loop and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The trail is well-maintained, with clear markers and location information, making navigation easy. Along the way, I walked through dense forests and peaceful groves, with parts of the path following a gentle creek. The highlight was the stunning view from the observation deck. Unfortunately, my phone quickly ran out of battery, so I couldn’t capture the scenery, but I’ll definitely return in the spring or summer to enjoy this hike again!
Boris B — Google review
We took the Red Loop, which was definitely more difficult. I'm a little out of shape after this winter, so I had to rest at times to catch my breath on the steep inclines. The benches were conveniently located along the trail, so sitting and resting and listening to the birds before getting back up made it easier to continue. Plus my Yorkie needed breaks to rest and drink some water. She loved the creek as we descended to splash in and drink some fresh water after that long hike. We even stopped and picnicked on one of the benches before continuing our ascent. The view at the summit made it all worth it! Next time I'm feeling more lazy, I plan on taking the blue trail. I ran into a family that was on the blue trail and they definitely were out of breath and needed to sit and rest. I spoke with them for a bit. That makes me feel good to know it'll probably still be a bit of a challenge, however it's much shorter and I'm hoping not as steep since I don't believe it goes up to the summit.
Angelina H — Google review
Trails need to be better marked and not just color coded... Took the Red trail to the observation tower and so many people were confused since it splits up going up and coming down... Wear good boots and walking stick helps, which they do provide for free next to the bathrooms... Very Thankful for that...

By the time I reached the top I thought 'at least it's all downhill from here'... It's not. Somehow it's uphill both ways. Definitely a challenging hike and beautiful way to spend a Wednesday morning.

A beautiful hike. Enjoyed every bit of it. My heart rate was challenged, but doable. A great workout!I loved all the posts about different plants as they were easily recognizable. The Laurel is a beauty and in bloom at the moment!

First time visit. Was blown away by the beauty of the park and friendliness of staff. Can't wait to visit more often especially in fall weather. 🍂 🍁

Nice, well maintained trails all the way to the top. Didn’t saw any people at the trail which was nice. The trail itself is moderately hard. Some places are quite steep. But the view at the top was nice.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Step into the past at the Harper House/Hickory History Center, a charming Victorian home that serves as a local history museum. The meticulously reconstructed house offers a glimpse into the lives of various families who once resided there, showcasing authentic furnishings from the Victorian era. Visitors can opt for guided tours or explore at their own pace, and also have the option to visit the neighboring Lyerly House.
Ran across the Harper House in Hickory on a rainy day! What a fun place to visit. The staff were awesome! The tour was great learning about the Harper House and all the history behind it. The tour lasted about a hour. Fyi.... you do need to be able to climb stairs for the tour. Not a lot, but there is a second floor and an attic area to tour as well as a basement. Also, at the main building there is more to tour in their basement, which does have an elevator and bathrooms there. The basement has much history on prohibition, Nascar, etc. There are some more rooms to tour over there and a little gift shop area. They also rent that building out for small weddings, dinners, meetings, etc. They do have a kitchen area for things to be catered in. Very lovely! Definitely a fun thing to do when you are in Hickory! Highly recommend!

Beautiful! A sweet friend from my book club booked us a private tea party at the Harper House. The food and service were great. We were able to tour this beautiful, historic home. I highly recommend visiting the Harper House.
Mandy B — Google review
While in Hickory, I knew I had to make a stop at the Harper House. After you drive up the driveway, there is free parking for you to use on the property. When you arrive for your tour, you do need to go to the Lyerly House (Hickory History Center) to check in and pay, rather than the Harper House. (I do think they want you to schedule an appointment to tour the house, even though I just showed up and asked for a tour, as I didn't know about needing an appointment then) I don't have much background in Hickory's history, so I wasn't sure what to expect with the Harper House. From the minute I walked in the house, I was wowed. It is said to be the finest Queen Anne home in the state, and I think I'd agree with that statement. The house was built in 1887 by Daniel Webster Schuler, who founded Hickory's first bank. The Harper's acquired the house in 1923 and three generations of the family lived in the house. In 2000, Catawba County took ownership of the house and started restoring it to its original Victorian decor. The architecture is just amazing and unique in this house, from the fish scale shingles to the spindles on the porch railing to the pebble dashing to the stained glass windows to the cherry staircase to the winged Mercury on the stair post to the parquet floors. The ornate details are there. I hadn't seen wallpaper before on the ceilings or various patterns used together. One room had at least 13 different patterns in the design. The furnishings are elegant to show off their luxury. It is a little overwhelming. The draperies are beautiful and the chandeliers are amazing but it is a lot. The attic was a fun surprise as that is the speakeasy used during Prohibition, and the Harpers required them to get a silhouette on the wall. I highly recommend touring the Harper House as you are in for a treat with this gem.
Rebecca M — Google review
Loved it! $10 each adult for a tour of the Victorian house. Beautiful home with gorgeous woodwork, antique furniture and unique wallpaper. Recommend!
A C — Google review
It was a rainy day and my wife and I were looking for something to do locally. I remembered a friend of mine telling me about touring the Harper House located in downtown Hickory, NC. I called to make sure they were open today, they were so we went for a tour. A little history: Built in 1887 by Daniel Webster Shuler who founded Hickory's first bank. Traditional Queen Anne architectural elements characterize the house from the hipped roof with lower cross gables, to the scalloped wooden shingles and stained glass windows. Considered by the North Carolina Department of Archives and History to possess "the finest Queen Anne interior styling in the entire state,” the Harper House is located at 310 N. Center Street. It is named the Harper House because the Harper family (last of seven families to occupy the house) stay was by far the longest—from 1923 until December 21, 2000. The interior is for the most part completely restored. The house is also totally furnished with period pieces. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take photos inside the house which was a bummer. 🙁 We had a guided tour which lasted I'm guessing 45 minutes to and hour. Sidney was our tour guide. She was both very personable and knowledgeable of the property. Ghost Alert: 👻 Upon entering the house my wife commented in addition to admiring the beauty of the interior that she imagined the house was kind of creepy at night - like most Victorian style homes. Our tour guide stated there was the occasional unexplained occurrence in the home from time to time. She also said there has been at least two paranormal groups who has done paranormal investigations at the home in the past. We then entered a room downstairs with a beautiful carved cherry wood fireplace mantel. There was a painting on the wall of Mrs. Shuler, the original and first "lady of the house". Our tour guide stated Mrs. Shuler has been married 3 times in her life. My wife commented that was usual for that time period. Our tour guide stated "tongue and cheek" that she always assumed Lady Shuler married the first time for love, the second time for money and the third time for fun! We all laughed. Right as we were laughing there was loud noise - like a bang or pop that seemed to come from the location of that fireplace mantel. I chuckled that either Mrs. Shuler didn't like us laughing about her 3 marriages or she was agreeing! 😂 But anyway we may have actually experienced a paranormal event at the house! 😱😳👻🤣 The cost is $10.00 for adults. There are tours every hour on the hour. I highly recommend visiting this house if you like touring old homes. It is beautifully restored inside and out! 👍
Ron L — Google review
Our 2-hour tour of the Harper House today was wonderful. Everything about the house interior, the woodwork, fireplaces, wallpaper & drapes, the furniture, and all the attention to details is outstanding. Our guide's knowledge was excellent. And we'll add that downtown Hickory is very pretty, with lots of shops, restaurants, & pubs. Don't miss Olde Hickory Station for lunch or dinner.
Beverly G — Google review
Very cool tour. Tour guide is very knowledgeable & thorough. The cost of the tour goes towards maintaining the home ... well worth it!
Meg B — Google review
If you are into visiting old houses, this is one place to go. Me and my brother and our wives toured the house with Stacy as our guide. The first floor stairs and floors are all wood. Lots to see and learn the history. Several surprise rooms. When you sign up, for the house tour, look around the house, that was moved to the current location and visit the display regarding the history of infantile paralysis in Hickory.

Sandwich shop
Hatch Sandwich Bar is a charming lunch spot located in Hickory, NC that opened its doors in 2012. This cozy eatery offers a variety of unique sandwiches, including vegetarian options, all served in a colorful counter-serve nook. What sets Hatch apart is their commitment to sustainability by sourcing many ingredients locally and offering daily specials announced on their website and Facebook page.
Solid selection with some unique menu items. I had the pastrami cheesesteak and it was fantastic. Friendly staff and plenty of places to sit down. Would definitely recommend if you're in the Hickory area.

Here's a short positive review for Hatch sandwich shop: Absolutely loved my experience at Hatch in downtown Hickory! This local spot is a real gem. I had the Rueben and it was easily one of the best I've ever had – perfectly grilled and packed with flavor. My colleague's salad looked incredible too. The outdoor seating area is a fantastic bonus, and the location in charming downtown Hickory just adds to the whole wonderful vibe. Highly recommend stopping by Hatch for a delicious meal!
Jamie D — Google review
We were driving through Hickory and just googled a lunch spot. Hatch came up with great reviews so we decided to make a stop. Place was buzzing with people and a queue. Staff was trying to handle phone orders and in-store orders so we didn’t try to ask any questions. Board showed a great selection of sandwiches and Thanksgiving turkey caught our eyes. Maybe it was not the right choice as the sandwich we received was underwhelming. We have never seen a Turkey sandwich so sad looking. Definitely not giving a Thanksgivings vibe. Made us regret that we didn’t stop at Jersey Mike’s. If pulled pork sandwiches are the specialty, will be good to know on the board.
Grace S — Google review
Unfortunately no pictures of the sandwich it was that good. I inhaled it. Damn that sandwich was good, steak and cheese. Perfect combo. Highly reccomened as a stop.
Fred G — Google review
Visiting the area and tried this place based on reviews. We had the French burger, which had Brie & strawberry jam and the Thanksgiving sandwich. Burger was cooked perfectly and the Brie & berry combo was surprisingly good. The Thanksgiving sandwich was toasted to perfection. There wasn’t much to it (turkey, cheese & cranberry) but it was simply good. We upgraded to sweet potato fries (comes with chips) which came with this amazing dip. Fries were good. Portion sizes were good for us - not super sized but still larger than one portion. I would eat here again to try something else. There were several things on the menu that made it to my short list. They have fountain drinks and bottled beverages. Also desserts available. Dine inside or out (limited outside seating) Service was quick.
Patti D — Google review
Last night was our first time to dine at Hatch — but it won’t be our last! I had commented several times when heading downtown for a play that we should give it a try and we finally did. Yes, theater goers— its super close to Hickory Community Theater! We tried several things. The pulled pork grill cheese was delicious — piled high with pork and yummy cheese! We also order the three sides plate. We chose the Brussels sprouts with maple, the broccoli with miso, sumac roasted carrots. The broccoli stands out for the umami flavors and the carrots were just perfection. The REAL standout for the night was the charred eggplant with “cashew-cilantro cream, pickled mustard seeds, parsley, and hot honey”. WOW! It was amazing. It might not win any prizes for beauty, but for flavor, it is top notch! If they have this on special when you dine there, don’t miss it. We were actually using the bread from our sandwiches to get every last bit of that cashew cream from the plate. Yes, it is that good. When you are looking for a place that isn’t fancy or pretentious, has good prices and excellent food, give Hatch a try.
Michele H — Google review
Time for lunch and I was able to get a parking space close to Hatch. We ordered at the counter and took a seat in the back where sandwiches were delivered about 15 minutes later. Made to order and they were busy, so this is an appropriate time. They have a cooler with beers and canned/bottled sodas. There is also a self-service soda fountain in the back. It's a nice dining area with different options for seating including a large communal table, some high tops and low tops. There might be a wifi. Restrooms were clean. Sandwiches arrived and they were great. I had chose the "Club" which was ham, turkey and bacon with appropriate fixings. Delicious, slightly messy, very yummy. My wife had the "Thanksgiving Turkey" with cranberry and thick sliced tomato. Also excellent. Great lunch, nice little place. I'm glad we found it!
Bruce K — Google review
Cozy little sandwich shop with great variety and fresh ingredients. Tried the turkey avocado, thanksgiving, Reuben and turkey melt. All were great. Prices were reasonable. The Brussel sprouts were a great side. Lots of choices for beer and sodas. They offer takeout and no one waited more than 5 minutes while we were there. Place sits at one end of a quaint downtown street. Worth the stop.

Wow. Attention to detail is alive and well here. What a spectacular experience. Amazing service, food that is out of this world, and beautiful ambiance!! I will rave about this place for years. Do not pass up the opportunity to visit here!! Tiffany, the bartender/server was the vest in the business! She was amazing! Again, do not miss an opportunity to dine here!

This is such a beautiful restaurant. We ordered just off of the tapas menu and were not disappointed! We recommend the pheasant and veil sausage. The street corn was also very good.

This place was good, food descriptions were vague. One of our dishes had something very spicy in it and the menu didn’t specify that nor did our server. The Quality of food was amazing, great cocktails and the place is beautiful. Plenty of parking. Next time we’ll be asking detailed questions of everything we want.

Naan: the naan was good but the dips did not have enough spices, they were bland! Falafel: It was delicious!! Again not too spicy. These dishes were not very authentic but I guess they were made as per their target consumers! The ambience was really beautiful!!

We have eaten at Boca for years. We were there in December and had excellent food including filet, Brussels, piquillos, and the whipped ricotta. We returned Saturday and ordered two filets medium rare. They are supposed to be 8 oz. Mine was very small and thin (definitely not 8 oz) and was overcooked likely because of how it was cut. My husband's was more the traditional shape but was inedible due to being mostly fat. It was a very strange and offputting shiny, slimy texture. He had to request a new one, which meant he ate well after us. There also was zero urgency in getting him the new one. This is not an inexpensive meal. The attention to detail and execution were a big letdown after having such a great meal last month. December gets 5⭐️; January gets 3⭐️. I'll gladly edit again if consistency returns because we want Boca to succeed.

I expected something really nice, but I got something more than special and unique. I went with my boyfriend to celebrate a special day in our relationship and I couldn't have choosen a better place. All those details, from the entrance, service, food, until the restrooms impressed us in a positive way. Thank you Boca, for your good taste in decoration, staff and food.

I celebrated my 40th birthday at Boca. We had a private room in the back that was beautiful. The service was outstanding!! We loved the blueberry mules. I also enjoyed the no vacation no problem and and espresso martini with my birthday cake. Both were delicious. The filet was beyond perfect. We will definitely be back. Awesome vibe, terrific service and scrumptious food make this a great place to visit. Lots of delicious food items to choose from. It has plenty of seating and a very efficient and friendly staff. Just a great place to eat or to hang out in. They offer my favorite a portabella mushrooms sandwich that keeps me coming back again and again. The pizza, appetizers etc are yummy too!

Olde Hickory Tap Room was recommended by the locals, so we decided to try it. The food was very good and the service was wonderful. We stopped it for lunch and the portions were big. Took our servers recommendations and they did not disappoint. They do their own blue cheese and warm it before adding it to the burger, the best I've ever had. Will try more dishes next time I'm in Hickory.

@oldehickorytaproom Olde Hickory Tap Room for a relaxed Saturday evening dinner. Very enjoyable. Food: Classic chicken tenders - their specialty. These massive tenders are breasts cut into tender and fried to perfection. Amazing crust and tender. It’s a big portion so be prepared to take some home! I would say, best tenders I have ever had. We got the potato salad as a side which was creamy, mustardy, and filled with pickles. Loved it. Service: Wait staff were busy but very friendly. We did have a 30 minute wait but used it ti enjoy the beautiful downtown of Hickory, N.C. However, we did spend 2 hours here and only got chicken tenders… Ambiance: Lowkey bar vibe but still good for families. Location: Nestled in downtown Hickory. Beautiful. Plenty of parking. Nice walk. Rating: Food - 9.1/10 Overall - 8.3/10 #food #foodreview #chicken #tenders #taproom #ncfoodfinds

My server was amazing, as well as the drinks. However, this was probably one of the worst steaks I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely ZERO seasoning, the grill marks are the only reason I can say it wasn’t cooked in a microwave. The sides were not great either. No seasoning on the broccoli and the “Irish root roast” was soft and definitely boiled. I’ll be back, but won’t be eating there again

Awesome food! Husband got his favorite (The Blueburger) and I got the special (Cornbread chicken pot pie). We also got a side of ghost chili (spicy and warm with ground meat and light beans). The chicken pot pie has a sweetness to it that adds to the flavor. So creamy and yummy! Husband loves the blue cheese burger and ranch with his pub chips.

The food and service is always good! Very consistent! Deb the bartender is the best!! Love the veggie pizza, fish and chips, Reuben, and great salads! Never had a bad meal here! FYI - they will make anything into a wrap. My only wish is they had the Buffalo fried oysters like the sister restaurant!

Your Bar is amazing, the atmosphere is like no other, but your bartender on this night, even though she made great cocktails was distracted, didn't check on us at all or pay attention. We had to get her attention constantly. Just because you make great drinks, doesn't mean you should be a bartender. It's about connection, and she lacked it very much. She seems sweet but that doesn't get the job done in an impressionable way.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here tonight. It was only my second time to visit and a first for my husband. I enjoyed the appetizer that was on special tonight — Bang Bang Shrimp. The portion was a good size, the shrimp were large and the taste was delicious. I also liked my entree which was blackened chicken over smashed potatoes with crispy fried Brussels sprouts. We will definitely look forward to coming back!

Headed to Notions in Hickory? You totally should! Their brunch is seriously 🔥. Those liver mush sliders? Don't knock 'em 'til you try 'em! 😋 And the bananas foster French toast? Sweet heaven! 🍌🍞 The avocado toast is on point too. 🥑 Plus, their Bloody Marys pack a punch 🍹 and who can say no to bottomless mimosas? 🥂 The vibe is chill, and they've got good seating. 👍 Oh, and it is ♿ handicap accessible with its 🅿️ parking, seating and 🚻 restrooms, which is awesome! 🙌

This place was great! Food was priced right! Portions were perfect. Food tastes delicious 😋. Sangria was really good. Place decorated really nice. Staff great. If I was a Hickory local, I would be a regular here ❤️. If you are in the area try this place!

The food we had was very good. Cajun pasta and chicken and the filet mignon. The inside area is a bit crowded and with all the conversations a bit noisy, it has a nice bar and eclectic feel. They have great outdoor seating if the weather is good and are dog friendly outside.

I wish I could remember our servers name. He was great! Atmosphere is nice and cozy. It was a Friday night and a full house which was nice to see! Seems to be a popular spot for locals. Food was also really good. You've got to get the Tempura Cauliflower. It's delicious!

It’s been 2 days and I’m still thinking about the blackened chicken salad, so I thought I needed to give kudos to Notions. I honestly cannot say if I liked the tender chicken, amazing tobacco onions, blue cheese crumbles, or the fresh greens the best. We sat outside because the evening weather was gorgeous and our server was super sweet and courteous. I’m dreaming of going back.

We have dined here twice and both meals were very good! A little room for improvement, but definitely worth future visits!! Their outdoor dining is very pleasant on a mild evening. Last night I had the filet with potatoes and brussel sprouts, same thing I had on my previous visit and it is a 10 out of 10! Flavor, portion and cost! Excellent!! My wife had the sliders for her meal and the first time we had them they were very juicy and flavorful, last night they were dried out and ended up as part of our dogs meal for the evening. Also, their fries are just frozen crinkle fries, would have figured something a little more from a nicer restaurant. We shared a cobb salad to start with blue cheese dressing and it was good, but not great. Needed something else for texture and lacked flavor. Our service was good and we thought our server did a great job!! The food runner from The kitchen had the personality of sandpaper... maybe she wasn't having a good evening? But in a customer facing role I think you need to be a little happier and not rude. They forgot my wifes fries and when she mentioned this to the food runner she argued that it hadn't been rung up instead of saying something like let me check on that. Then our server walked up and she kind of argued with him in front of us. That probably should've been a back of restaurant discussion and not arguing with the customer. All that being said! We like it here and WILL return!! We may skip the cobb and sliders, but the filet is excellent!! And good ambience!! To those about to dine, I salute you!!

Absolutely delicious food! So happy we stopped here for our lunch! My kids were happy with their sandwiches. Our mozzarella appetizer was perfect, the flavors were so good in the sauce! I got the black bean burger (order it crispy!!!) with fried okra and it did not disappoint one bit! It's something I'll be craving now! Our waitress, Nicole, was phenomenal. She was very attentive, kind and helpful in giving additional recommendations based on her personal opinions as well as locals/regulars. Thank you to Nicole for making our experience so great!

Food is good. Chicken was quite moist. Love brunch on the weekends. Like the prices. Wine and beer selection is excellent. Nose level at 2pm was tolerable. Service was decent. What I didn’t like was the dirt under the fingernails of one of the servers. And the bathrooms are disgusting, which makes me wonder about the kitchen. I’ll try someplace else the next time I’m in Hickory.

It was a beautiful spring day at lunch time so it was very busy but we only had to wait about 20 minutes. All the servers and employees where very nice. The atmosphere was amazing. I really enjoyed the gift shop at the front of the restaurant and the view from our table was beautiful. The food was so fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend this place if you find yourself in Hickory NC!

I really wanted to give this place at three, but I didn’t because in fairness the Hickory carnival was going on right next-door and I can see the restaurant being the way it was because of the extra customers. I met the manager. His name was William. I only stopped in ate because I was in the area. Starting with the discounts unbelievably they offer none “0” onto the food. I really enjoyed the food. The pizza was good. They had a real crispy crust. I ordered it like ham, sausage and olives. Do not get the olives. They are extra extra salty I also got the wings. They were pretty good. I could see myself eating at disestablishment again. I really like the old feel of the place. They sell lots of special cheeses, wines and other specialty items. I think you should give him a try for the old time feel. they offer what looks like a fully stocked bar. They have inside and outside eating and I think I might’ve saw a fireplace. Our waitress was named Mia. Thank you for your service.

What a horrible disaster!!! This place is in the old Hickory train depot wonderful beautiful building great atmosphere you would think it would be a great place to celebrate someone’s birthday like we did, but it was not. It was a horrible experience. An hour and a half later the birthday girl still had not received her food. Out of 6 adults and 6 children 6 of the burgers were nearly raw and all were requested well done. Server was horrible and had a terrible attitude. The manager came to our table to personally apologize and said he completely agreed with us, our food was nearly raw. He was cool!! we are not diners with an attitude. We are very laid-back and easy to get along with me my wife my daughter have all been servers in restaurants in our younger days and know how it can go, but I would highly recommend against coming here extremely bad experience. This is the third time I have been here and it has never been a great experience food wise the atmosphere and company was great. I only agreed to attend because it was a friend‘s birthday dinner. When the birthday girl finally got her food an hour and a half later the order was wrong as well three strikes you’re out. These photos are of our supposed to be well done burgers. On a semi positive/ negative sidenote the manager told my daughter for each of us to get a free dessert on the way out they have an extremely nice dessert bar as you’re exiting the building however, when we got up there, the lady accused us of lying about him, giving us each a free dessert for our horrible experience!!

What a wonderful genuine place. We have driven up from Spartanburg both times to grab cheese you can only get there. We had dinner at the bar and what a fun time! The bartender, I failed to get her name but incredible eye makeup, was amazing and we sat, just like last time, with a bunch of regulars. This place makes me want to move to Hickory so I can become a regular too. These salads were beyond delicious and they kept growing in the bowl. Haha We can't wait to come back. Thank you for a super fun Tuesday day off! 😘

I never want to leave bad reviews. But I kind of considered myself a regular. I order their Streak Cobb salad maybe once a week, I have also brought them a lot of business by showing around my lunch. However, it’s always a hit and miss, items would be missing, or the steak portion is off. Today I was craving this salad, after not even having breakfast. All the portions were wrong. I got barely any steak, or onions, or blue cheese, even the greens. It feels like they ran out of ingredients and gave me what was left, not to mention this is a $18 salad. I would be taking a pause from ordering here. Two pictures of a great looking salad and the portion I got today.
