Fountains
The Grand Haven Musical Fountain, established in 1962, is a captivating attraction in Grand Haven, Michigan. It offers mesmerizing water and light shows set to music, creating a delightful experience for visitors. Situated along the Grand River downtown, the fountain provides charming evening entertainment with its dynamic performances. The shows run every night from Memorial Day through Labor Day and last about half an hour. It's a must-see while visiting Grand Haven and makes for a perfect evening activity by the riverfront.
This FREE show is just as amazing and wonderful as it has always been. So glad I can share this memory with my children just like my Mom did for me.
Joy F — Google review
The kids never tire of the fountain light show, with fresh music and a crowd full of pure joy to enjoy it with, this a must see if you're in the area in the summer. It's a wonderful time, no matter your age.
Amber C — Google review
The fountain and audio in on a big hill on the other side of the river. I saw it years ago, it was street level in a park like setting with people watching from all sides. I wasn't a fan of the Christmas Music in July on the eve of the Coastguard Festival. Sorry, maybe just disappointed because it wasn't like my childhood memory. Still it was nice, especially for a free event.
Susan B — Google review
My kids love the Musical Fountain! It’s like a quaint small town version of a Las Vegas fountain show. I believe it is programmed by local volunteers. We loved the Taylor Swift show, among others.
Kristen S — Google review
My mom said we were going to see the ‘singing fountain.’ I imagined beauty. Elegance. Maybe even magic. Instead, I got hit by more water than Niagara Falls. The wind changed direction mid‑song and suddenly I was drenched head to toe like I’d been baptized against my will. My shoes squished for hours. My phone almost drowned. The fountain doesn’t sing; it screams as it soaks innocent bystanders. Meanwhile, my mom is clapping like it’s Broadway while I’m just praying for towels. Three star — unless you’re into accidental waterboarding disguised as family entertainment

What a Concert last night by Gary Sinise & his Lt. Dan Band. Culminated by a spectacular light show & Fireworks. Oh what a night to Remember!

It's a park across from dancing fountains. They have cement seating or you can bring camping chairs.

State Parks
Grand Haven State Park is a 48-acre park located along the shores of Lake Michigan and the Grand River. It offers a sandy beach area for swimming, sunbathing, and scenic views, as well as a fishing pier and a striking red lighthouse that's perfect for photos. The park also features camping on the sand and is adjacent to Grand Haven City Beach, which has areas where dogs are allowed and an ADA-compliant beach walkway.
This is a great place to enjoy a massive beach that is deserted in the off-season days during the school year. Parking is available on the north side by the pier at the Fisherman's parking lot against the channel, and also on the south end at the Grand Haven City Beech parking lot (expect it to be full during sunset viewing times). Be aware of the rules for the near shore waters when red-flag wave conditions exist. God bless and enjoy the great creation the Lord has given us.
Fitz F — Google review
The sites were spectacular and their accommodations were great. Lake Michigan was wonderful and the lighthouse was so special. The paths that they laid down on the sand made it easy to get near the water without sinking in the sand. I have never seen the material that was used, but even more "mature" people could walk easily on the paths.
S. S — Google review
Love this state park, so cool being able to camp right on the beach and the water! The spots are very tight though so keep that in mind, it took me a couple tries to get in the spot and I usually never have a problem with backing up my camper. I could barely fit my camper and truck in my spot, but once you get over how tight it is, it is a beautiful place. I will say be careful getting a site next to the bathrooms by the river, they do not turn off the outside lights and they are super bright at night, no problem for us in a camper we could just close the blinds but a tent would be rough.
Nathan W — Google review
Our first RV night experience in Michigan was amazing at this park right on the beach and a canal. We loved the biking and the walks along the canal, as well as the experiences in town, including the nightly water feature with great music and ice cream!😍
Eileen L — Google review
Thanks to the state for providing such a nice public beach with easy access for everyone. The beach is spacious with fine sand, and the restrooms and shelters are well maintained. Lots of parking spots, grills and picnic tables for BBQ, and volleyball nets.
Ying T — Google review
We stayed directly across from the entrance to the park so we had easy access. It's beautiful, well -maintained and supervised. Promptly at 10 the parking lot was cleared of revving motors and people. There is a well-stocked gift shop with fun stuff and things you may have forgotten.
Rhonda H — Google review
I made a 3 hour drive to this park simply to take pictures of the lighthouse at sunset. The park closes promptly at 10, they used a bullhorn to announce the park closing and cars need to be out by 10. Well, the lights on the pier didnt turn on until 9:30 and its a 10 minute walk to the parking lot. If you're there to take pictures, either enjoy the 20 minute window or park outside of the state park parking lot literally anywhere else so you have more time to stay. Besides the narrow photo window, the lighthouse was gorgeous and offered a very nice walk up and down the pier. There are SOO many people there during the day, and even into sunset its very crowded. The window of very little people happens at 9:55 right before having to run back to the parking lot lol

Needed a roadtrip and some time to decompress from the evils of the world. Decided to head up to Grand Haven and take a nice long walk at their State Park. Ended up witnessing amazing views, friendly people and an amazing new to me tan. “I’ll be back” 😎

Rosy Mound Natural Area is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts, offering towering sand dunes, lush forests, and a stunning beach. This classic Great Lakes dune system features high wooded dunes, foredunes, and a 200-foot dune blowout. The 0.7-mile hiking trail to Lake Michigan showcases scenic views of the woods and the lake, with 1,000 feet of stairs providing access up and down the dunes.
This is such a beautiful nature area. It's only a short walk to the lakeshore with amazing views. Thankfully there are lots of places to stop and rest with benches along the paths and between flights of stairs. Lots of trees for shade as well and there's a bathroom right at the entrance for the kiddos to make one last stop before getting on the trail. Would definitely recommend this trail if you're up for a short hike and want to enjoy a breathtaking view at the end.

Excellent signage and nicely maintained trail and stairs. If you follow Red #1 to Acorn trail it is a bit longer loop to the next sign, Red #2. If you take Jean Laug-Carroll trail (nearer to the restrooms) it is a more direct route to Red #2 then on to #3 and the beach. It is about 0.75 miles to the beach/water. With lots of stairs. The trail meanders through the woods so there is plenty of shade until the last section and beach. The beach and views of L Michigan are beautiful and the sunsets must be spectacular. Please note: some moron dropped and hypodermic needle on the beach. So watch your step! I disposed of it back at the parking lot. Also note: there is a kiosk at the trail head. The day use fee is $8 to Ottawa County. No pets are allowed and the MI state park sticker is not valid.

Our bus load of 48 people really enjoyed our hour and a half here on April 26. Parking is free before Memorial Day in the spring. The trails are well kept and it is such a nice view of the lake. The bathrooms were also well maintained.

One of the nicest trails ever! Hike through a beautiful forest trail with plenty of steps...stairs, and the down to dunes and the beach of Lake Michigan. Loved it!
Shawn M — Google review
My wife and I had a very nice 4 mile hike all around the park. We walked down to the beach and swam for an hour or so. A beautiful park and very well maintained
Bob M — Google review
Good hike, lots of stairs so be warned. Kids and I did it in "stair bursts" and it was a good workout. Saw a deer and lots of chipmunks. $8 day pass/$25 county annual pass

We love visiting Rosy mound, love the beautiful scenery. Catching the sunset is the best and hiking their paths.

Museums
The Tri-Cities Historical Museum, located in downtown Grand Haven, Michigan, offers a captivating journey through the history of the region. Housed in the historic Akeley Building since 2004, it features both permanent and rotating exhibits that cover various aspects such as Native American heritage, the logging era, and the cities' roles in World War II. The museum provides an engaging exploration of the interconnected past of Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Ferrysburg.
I came to this museum on a whim and was not expecting how awesome it was. It's quite quaint and well laid out. Starts in the ground talking about Michigan's geology and GH community, moving into the second story with women in the navy and ending in the third with a beautiful event space and lighthouse overview. There's lots of hidden details to see and notice as you go through here. Would recommend stopping by if you're in the area.
Emily L — Google review
This was a perfect way to get out of the heat for a bit while we were downtown. You could probably spend an hour in here with all of the things to look at and learn about. There were some interactive parts to the exhibits, as well as coloring areas. The museum is free, but you can donate at the front desk.
Jen B — Google review
This local history museum if the area is super impressive. Very well done. And admission is free. Check it out!
Casey P — Google review
This is a cool place to browse the history of the area around Grand Haven. We were impressed with the many carefully curated displays that told stories of years gone by. Stop in and browse, knowing some local history will always be beneficial.
Bob Z — Google review
Such a cool little museum. It tells the history of the Tri-Cities (Grand Haven, Spring lake, Ferrysburg) from when Native Americans lived in the area to present day. It has some gorgeous woodwork in mahogany from an old Victorian home along with a lumber saw. In the upstairs they had a special exhibit for the Coast Guard which was beautiful to walk through. Can easily get through it in about an hour, give or take, depending on how much you want to read. Would recommend.
Monica — Google review
Interesting place. Tucked away amongst the small shops but has three separate floors with displays to browse through. Artwork, sculptures, historical text and info on the logging industry that helped jumpstart civilization in the northern states. Some exhibits are setup to show how life was back during that time. There is also a beautiful hall upstairs that would be ideal for receptions banquets, etc. Information on the US Coast guard can also be found here.
Inquisitor F — Google review
It's a small museum in Grand Haven where we spent about an hour. It is a main exhibition about the history of the area on the first floor, and upstairs an exhibition of painting and fashion over time. Admission is free but donations can be made.

Outdoor Activities
Kitchel/Lindquist/Hartger Dunes Preserve is a 114-acre protected area known for its stunning sand dunes, nature trails, and opportunities for activities like sledding and cross-country skiing. The preserve boasts massive natural dunes, dense forests, and lush wetlands across its 115 acres. While the trails may not be easily accessible, visitors can enjoy a small but pleasant picnic area at the trail heads.
Very quiet when I came here late on a Sunday afternoon, not much wildlife or birds, there were some in the trees but very difficult to see but also wrong time of day. Paths are very well marked but mostly sand so some can be a bit hard going underfoot. I did find it very peaceful though despite the lack of action. There were some paper maps at the beginning but the trails are quite short so not difficult to navigate.
Brian M — Google review
Primitive trail in the winter! Which I was hoping for… a challenging walk 👍🏻. However, as of this review (1/26/25) at least two trail maps do not have the “You Are Here” stickers on the signs. I had no idea where I was. There were smaller, less traveled trails that the locals must use, but quite confusing for a newcomer. Also, with Dewy Hill directly east, why was there no signage for that (other than the sign that read “Leaving Dewy Hill”)?
Kristin H — Google review
Very neat spot to stop and look around. The dunes are beautiful!
Katelyn B — Google review
Beautiful area to hike though some trails not marked accurately. Some areas can be challenging for casual hikers.
Leysa R — Google review
Not a very good spot for hiking. One of the loops we skipped because it had tall grass over the trail and we didn't want to pick up a tick. Some of the other trails were under water and most of the rest were all sand. Not very good for hiking.
J. T — Google review
This is actually a really fun trail or series of trails. I got lost and went off trail once or twice as there are a couple of unmarked trails that aren't part of the official trail system. But they still give you a good workout and it's very pretty place and peaceful place to watch

Interesting little hiking spot for a quick nature fix. Trails are not easily accessible, small but nice picnic area at the trail heads. Follow the path to the top of the hill, a few places to stop and take a rest. Nothing like the maintained trail at Hoffmaster or Rosy Mount. But an interesting little area to explore.

Sandwich shop
The Toasted Pickle Grand Haven is a local gem known for its unique and gourmet sandwiches. Founded by a group of sandwich artisans, this cozy spot continues to surprise patrons with inventive creations like the Get Pickled Grilled Cheese and the Green Goddess. Using locally sourced ingredients, this downtown cafe offers a casual and trendy atmosphere where foodies can enjoy hand-crafted meals ranging from artisanal sandwiches to innovative salads.
Service was quick considering it was a pretty busy afternoon! The green goddess grilled cheese was possibly the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had…. Delicious!! They have tons of flavors of freshly squeezed lemonades, the cherry lime and pomegranate were great! They have indoor and outdoor seating, but most (maybe all?) of the indoor seating is large tables. Would be nice if they had smaller tables for groups of 2-4 people. Overall a great experience! Would recommend!

We started with an order of the pickle poppers, which were phenomenal. I ordered the Crusty Cuban while my hubby had the Sixie from Dixie. Both sandwiches were delicious. We also tried the strawberry and blueberry lemonades. Both were refreshing. Staff was extremely friendly. Do yourself a favor and go check out the Toasted Pickle. Its the real "Dill."

Got the Crusty Cuban with a gluten free hoagie (gluten allergy) and it was THE BEST gluten free sandwich I’ve ever had. My partner also tried it and said it was delicious (even for someone who’s not gluten-free). My partner got the green goddess grilled cheese and the original lemonade and also said it’s one of the best sandwiches and lemonade he’s ever had. Also, the staff (shoutout to Hanna) are all lovely and so accommodating! Such a happy place to come for a great meal - so much so that we came back a second time in one weekend. Thanks Toasted Pickle team, you guys are awesome!

This was a good place to stop for lunch after a short trip to Grand Haven. When we arrived' the dining room was closed, so we ordered our food to sit at the tables outside. As we were waiting, some space opened in the dining room, and we decided to eat inside as it was cooler. There were a lot of interesting options on the menu, but I went with the Gooey Grilled Cheese. It was tasty and came with a shot of tomato soup. We ended our visit with shakes, and they did not disappoint. My wife tried their peach shake and had no complaints!
Jon — Google review
Our experience at the toasted pickle was overall pleasant. We ordered two sandwiches, and the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich was phenomenal. The fried pickles was the only disappointing food, they might not have been cooked long enough so the inside was a little raw. However, the flavored lemonades were outstanding. The food ended up taking about 50 minutes or so because we went over Labor Day weekend, which is to be expected. We were given a warning that it would be up to 45 minutes, so understandable. Overall, a nice spot for comfort food that the whole family can enjoy, especially in the summertime.

Gooey Grilled Cheese and Mac are the BEST...I travel nationwide for work and this is one of my favorites ANYWHERE.....and just so happens to be in my hometown! So glad to see them doing well and expanding. Fabulous food, great service and multiple cool locations now. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

The Toasted Pickle is my favorite go-to sandwich restaurant in Grand Haven, and once again my meal tonight proved exceptional. Their grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup combos are heavenly, the fried pickles are the perfect appetizer, and their flavored lemonades are delicious during a stroll along the riverfront. Their servers are always friendly and helpful, and create a casual and cozy atmosphere for dining inside. I love to get my order to go and find a seat along the river to eat. The portions are large and getting it to go makes it easier to save leftovers too; I usually get 2 full meals from one sandwich, side, and appetizer. If you're in Grand Haven don't miss out on The Toasted Pickle!

If I could, I'd give more stars for everything! I was very excited to visit Grand Haven just to try this unique place! It did not disappoint! They have a walk up window where you can order your food, and they text you when it's ready! They have an outside seating arra where you can enjoy the sunshine while eating your meal. I had the turkey corned beef, it was truly amazing! Their kicking pickle sauce was delicious and hit the spot with the sandwich to give it a unique touch! Their truffle fries were incredible also. And of course, the sandwiches come with a little pickle in the bag! They also have a variety of flavored lemonades I need one of these by me!

If you're on the hunt for a delightful breakfast or brunch experience, look no further than Morning Star Cafe. Nestled in Grand Haven, this vibrant eatery has been charming visitors since 1995 with its from-scratch dishes infused with a unique Southwest flair. The colorful decor sets the perfect backdrop for enjoying their creative menu, which features both traditional breakfast favorites and innovative specials that change daily.
Eclectic cafe nestled in the cute town of Grand Haven. There is a wide variety of options on the menu with daily specials. ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ Coffee is always hot and delicious. The house made whipped cream in the mocha Java is scrumptious. Omelettes are fluffy and the turkey sausage here is so tasty! They make a pineapple salsa (served on the side of a Denver omelette) that makes taste buds break dance🍍 🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️🍍🌶️ Everything is prepared with love. Great portion size, and food was plated to perfection. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere here!

Quite a nice place. Ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs atop sunny side up. Ethan (server) was friendly and knowledgeable. Coffee was a top notch brew very flavorful and robust. Not often do establishments carry such a great blend. Environment was very cozy, quaint with a vintage flair reminiscent of other older cafes, diners of the era. A very well kept location. Next time I visit I will have to bring a companion to share this experience with.

Absolutely awesome breakfast stop! Every person working at the Morning Star Cafe was super kind and the service was top notch. Food was delicious 😋 I can’t believe I’ve driven past the place so many times and never stopped! I’ll be back!

What a cute little place to try! It was recommended to me, and I'm so glad I went. The wait wasn't too long, but it was worth it. For a smaller place, there was a lot of seating. There was so many food options that it actually took awhile to finally pick something! I had a French Silk cold brew (yum!), and the breakfast BLTA sandwich with fruit. The menu had a Southern feel, but that's what makes it unique. And definitely try the Oatmeal Pancakes with the cinnamon butter! The server was amazing and it was a colorful ambiance. I'd also recommend!

We had breakfast here after a weekend of camping. I wanted to try something other than my normal breakfast fare of eggs toast and hashbrowns. We arrived at this cute and quaint little cafe just before the crowd. There were literally people waiting outside to be seated. I ordered the Raspberry Stuffed French Toast (half order) and my husband got the Egg Sausage Patty and Roasted Potatoes with Rye bread. Our server was very nice and helpful. He knew the menu and was kind enough to let me know that I could get a half order. The menu is extensive and the portions are plentiful. It's a small place and fills up.fastbut it's well worth the wait. There are two really nice book stores nearby. One is right next door and the other is around the corner. Both are worth a look see.

We had an amazing breakfast at Morning Star Café in Grand Haven! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious — the Cadillac Omelet was perfectly balanced, the Banana Bread French Toast with fresh blueberries was indulgent and flavorful, and the Naked Benny was perfectly prepared. Our server, Cammi, was fantastic — attentive without being overbearing — and the manager even stopped by to personally check in and make sure we were enjoying our experience. It’s clear why this place has such high ratings. Warm atmosphere, outstanding food, and genuinely friendly service. Highly recommend!

Clean restaurant with Great food and sooo many Gluten-free items. Gluten-free labeled on the menu. The tiger bacon wrapped shrimp are amazing! They have corn bread basket at the table. It would be nice with sooo many Gluten-free delicious options if they had some sort of bread for us as well. Only thing I think that would really be nice and inclusive. Great food and pizza. Highly recommend!

We had such a great experience here. We had a large group and they were very accommodating. The service was quick and kind - our server, Catherine was attentive and friendly. The owner, introduced himself and it was apparent he truly cares about creating an inviting and tasty experience! I had the Nashville hottie on a waffle and it was 10/10. Can’t wait to come back during our next time in town.

Delicious food and great service. Got the Smoke house chicken sandwich. My wife got the tomato jam burger. Both were great. Chicken sandwich was better though. Definitely a top chicken sandwich for me. Order the Bavarian pretzels as well which were great.
Spencer S — Google review
Pros the food, service, drink and music were great. They offered some limited wines and cases of beer to go, but very limited. We came back for the pub fries and they were tastey. I'm a bit disappointed one of the better taps ran out. And there is so much room for more said the selection is honestly kinda limited for drafts. The service was awesome and always important. There are multiple rooms here and the front room is not the vibe, the bar area and back were upbeat. Biggest drawl back..I expected way more cheese curds, other restaurants I've spoiled my dinner with them. The dipping sauce for them was a sour creme chipotle ranch and beer cheese, both were ok, they could be elevated with caramel, red sauce etc, but I still wanted more.

Pizza restaurant
Fricano's Pizza Tavern is a cozy bistro that has been serving innovative Italian and American dishes, including their renowned pizza, since the 1940s. Located in a 19th-century boarding house, it is claimed by many as the best pizza they've ever had. This tavern was built in 1949 as Michigan's first pizzeria and is known for its original thin-crust pizza.
Wow!!! Pizza was amazing!!! You can tell they use quality ingredients. This was our first time and definitely won’t be our last if we’re in the area! I will say just a heads up for anyone looking at reviews for this place be aware that they don’t serve anything other than drinks and thin crust pizza. We were hoping for breadsticks or a salad, but the pizza was very filling, even when it was thin crust!
Stacey P — Google review
Thinnest pizza crust I’ve ever had!! And ohhhh soooo good!! Only certain toppings are available and only one size, but that’s what makes it such a special and unique place. I hope it never changes!
Cheri B — Google review
Fricanos in Grand Haven, MI is one of those old school places you can’t help but love. Started in 1949, they have the most simple menu of any sit down pizza place I have ever been to. The server put down a placemat and I asked for a menu. She said “that is the menu” ha ha. One size pizza, choice of 5 toppings. No appetizers, no salads, no desserts. Gotta love the simplicity and red and white table clothes! Pizza was a thin as you can get, with a good amount of cheese and toppings. Tasty and not overly crispy. Definitely a cool place to check out when in the area!
Tony P — Google review
My wife and daughter were gone so I decided to order some Fricano’s pizza for my boys and me; I ordered an EBA well done which was very good and I ordered a cheese for my boys. I ordered it to go so didn’t really experience the service but the person who rung me up was friendly. The atmosphere is still the same old school that it was 40 years ago when I was a kid. Fricano’s can sometimes be classified as “either you like it or you don’t” so if you haven’t tried it, check it out. Thin crust, usually on the “greasy” side so I order my well done. My in-laws are from Illinois and they aren’t a fan of it but I grew up with it so I’m a fan. Reasonably priced too.

Food was good. Very busy for a Tuesday night, and ended up walking in with a lady who had a group of 8 that hadn't all showed up. I had a group of only 2. After waiting for about 10min and noticing a table open the entire time, I talked to the cashier and politely mentioned that I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't mistakenly included in the group of 8 and it was just me and my daughter. We waited for another 5+ min to be seated at the table which was available the entire time. This was a bit frustrating but being that it was as busy as it was, it was understandable. After this minor inconvenience the rest of the meal and service was very good. This was our first time at Fricanos so I didn't really know that there was only 1 option of pizza with 5 toppings available, Plain cheese, sausage, pepperoni, green pepper, mushrooms, and anchovies, or of course any one combination of these toppings. I was very surprised there weren't any other options, no bread sticks, appetizers, salads, just pizza and drinks. It was at least another 20min wait for the pizza which was okay because I was in good company. Pizza came hot! We ordered sausage and mushroom. Unfortunately mushrooms are from a can, but at this point I was so hungry and the waitress was so busy I didn't even bother asking questions. The sausage was top notch, and I would definitely recommend it. I wouldn't so much request the mushrooms again. Pizza was delicious and could've easily put down another one, but it was a good size portion for my daughter and I. Prices were good, and I will be back but next time I'm the off season.

2025 update: I felt pretty ignored on this visit and even had to get up and ask the bartender for water. My sausage & pepperoni pizza came out kinda limp, still thin. Anyway, it just wasn't as impressive as that 1st visit I had here 2 years ago. 2023: As the menu says, it's "the most original" tasting Pizza I've had in quite a while, it's a super thin crust pizza but not crispy except for the edges which have a magnificent caramelized crust edge all the way around. They only serve one thing: 12" pizzas! The ingredient toppings offered are sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, green pepper & anchovy, that's it!! So deal with it! The wine list is good and not too expensive , actually neither is the pizza. Well worth the visit, friendly service in an old school pizza house setting! Definitely one of best pizzas I've had in Michigan!!

It's been around for about 75 years & the age of the facility shows, but it's also charming because of that. The staff all worked extremely hard and efficiently, all while sharing a smile.

Yum! I love a thin crispy crust that is loaded with toppings! You cannot beat the price here either for Pizza & drinks. Everything served hot, fresh & fast. Tons of seats & large parking lot too. Our waiter was also great very friendly!!!

The Kirby House, also known as just Kirby by the locals, is a historic former hotel located in downtown Grand Haven. It offers a variety of dining experiences including a main restaurant with live music and water views on the second floor, an upscale grill room, and a central bar with a covered patio. The building dates back to 1873 and exudes elegance and charm. Guests can enjoy refined American cuisine and signature cocktails while taking in the lively atmosphere and friendly service.
Delicious! The atmosphere was fantastic, as was the service. The menu had so many good things on it that ir was difficult to make a decision. The bar was very nice too.

This is a kind of tricky one to rate. One meal had to be sent back for a couple reasons but once that was addressed the food was good. Pretty solid with a 4 star rating on taste, freshness, and selection. Service was not great. We had 2 servers. The young lady was very nice and accommodating and the young man was rather short and not at all attentive or personable. After we ordered appetizers he came over to grab the menus without asking if there was anything else we wanted. It was weird and felt like he was trying to hurry us out. I’ve never experienced that in any other restaurant we’ve visited. We ordered our meals after the appetizers arrived (he did let us keep the menus after all- lol). The Long Island ice tea tasted like a premixed drink- it could’ve been better but it was fine. The Thai lettuce chicken appetizer and the mussel appetizer were both fantastic. The poke bowl was very good- mostly fresh tasting, the watermelon seemed not so fresh, the Kobe sirloin had good taste but the first one brought out was cold and the Brussel sprouts were good and not cooked very well. The second time they cooked it all better it was served warm and tasted good (grilled Brussels still a little too hard to chew). Flavor wise and menu choice is good. Feels like there’s something for everyone. If our service had been friendlier it would’ve really helped. The restaurant itself is clean and lots of seating choices when the weather is good. Considering everyone has an off day I would recommend the restaurant.

Atmosphere outside was great tonight. Meal was so good. Hubby had the Kirby burger and said it is one of the best burgers he's had in a long time. He ate it so fast I could only get a photo of his onion rings. Brendan did a great job with service! We frequent Grand Haven often and always stop at The Kirby House.

The Kerby House is a very cool place with a second floor bar overlooking the Grand River. Great game area on the second floor as well. This place is pretty darned big! If you are coming here for drinks and to hang out and play games, it's a great place for that. If you are coming for food, it's ok. My pizza was ok, but I would not get it again. All the kids said their food was "mid". But service was good, beer was cold and the ambience was spectacular.

We had a lovely dinner at The 1873 restaurant. Our server, Ben, was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was well prepared, the wine selection was nice, and the atmosphere was cozy and modern. We will be back for sure!

I come here everytime I am in town. It seems to keep getting worse. I ordered the poke bowl. Last time, I remember specifically saying it was amazing. This time, I had probably 2 bites of noodles. I asked for no onions. There were onions. No big deal. I asked for a side plate to pick them out but that should have been a clue that there was a mistake. After the food was delivered, we didn’t see the server again. I asked the manager for a box and check. I wanted another glass of wine and dessert but there wasn’t even an opportunity. **caution on the 3% charge. As stated in other reviews about its posting: it is not at the hostess stand, on the door, or on a table tent. It is in small cursive letters on the beer/wine side of the menu. It is not on the food side. If you’re not ordering beer or wine, you wouldn’t see it.**

Food and drink is really good, something happened with one of our meals and when the food was brought out, we were missing something. The manager came out and apologized, and offered an appetizer for free. Once it was ready we got and they took it off our bill. None of us had any complaints of the food, and the drinks were great!

Last night we visited for happy hour, the craft event upstairs, and then stayed for dinner afterward. The wait staff and all the employees were wonderful — friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The drinks were great, and the happy hour appetizers were delicious! We ordered the pretzel with beer cheese, and it was so good. For dinner, I had the cashew chicken. While I didn’t end up eating the chicken itself because it was overcooked, dry, and too chewy, everything else about the dish was amazing. I loved the flavor and the mix of vegetables — I’m actually looking forward to my leftovers for lunch today! (LOL) My husband ordered the capellini chicken (I believe that’s what it was called — our waiter mentioned it was new on the menu that day). The plating was beautiful, but the dish itself wasn’t our favorite. We weren’t quite sure how to eat it — maybe with a spoon? There was a lot of broth and very few noodles. It smelled wonderful, but the flavor just seemed to be missing something. Overall, I’m still giving 4 stars because the atmosphere, staff, and location are all fantastic. We’ll definitely be back!
