Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Discover the wonders of wildlife at Binder Park Zoo, a sprawling 433-acre zoo in Battle Creek, Michigan. With over 600 specimens from around the world, visitors can embark on an adventure to see giraffes and other fascinating animals. The zoo offers a free Wilderness Tram that transports guests to the Wild Africa exhibit where big cats and various African species reside. Additionally, visitors can take a break by riding the Conservation Carousel or exploring the Z.O.&O Railroad through the forest.
What a unique medium sized zoo! Went as soon as they opened on a Wednesday so it wasn’t so busy. Took us about 2-3 hours to walk the entire zoo. Got to feed giraffes, (For a fee) but was so worth it. Plenty of animals and educational displays. They have definitely modified the zoo over the years so more folks with wheelchairs can enjoy the zoo too. It was about $20 per person to get in, definitely worth it.

We had such a fun family day at Binder Park Zoo! This was my little man’s very first zoo experience, and he loved looking around at all the animals. We were lucky that so many of them were out and active, which made it extra exciting. The highlight for us was definitely the safari section—feeding the giraffes is such a unique and memorable experience. Our little guy wasn’t quite ready to feed them himself (maybe next time! 😅), but he loved watching mom and dad do it. The train ride out to the safari was nice, though we did have to wait a bit since only one was running, but it wasn’t too bad. After exploring, we decided to walk back instead of waiting again, which was a nice option to have. We also really appreciated the wide variety of animals and how much space the zoo has. It does mean a bit more walking compared to some other zoos, but it makes the exhibits feel more open and enjoyable. Visiting on a Friday morning was perfect since it wasn’t busy at all, which gave us plenty of time and space to enjoy everything. Overall, we had a wonderful time and can’t wait to come back when our little man is a bit older to experience it all over again. Highly recommend Binder Park Zoo for families looking for a fun day out!

First time visiting this zoo, we had a such a great time! We got to interact with giraffes, which are my favorite, and my kids love the train ride. Everything was very clean, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The walk through all the nature was perfect and we really enjoyed the whole experience. The dinosaur section is a must for families with young kids, they will love it! We’ll definitely be back.

My recent visit to Binder Park Zoo was a blast, and I highly recommend it! The park is a good size, with a great variety of animals to see. I was thrilled to feed a cassowary and a giraffe, was a cool experience. Beyond the animal exhibits, the zoo offers some fantastic activities. I had a great time on the obstacle course, which was a blast for an extra $17. The carousel was a fun classic touch, too. Overall, it was a fantastic day out. The zoo is well-maintained, the animals are impressive, and the extra activities make it even more enjoyable.
Matthew M — Google review
We are a family with young kids and this experience was a blast. It’s not like some zoos where all animals are sleeping or in the back being fed. The bears, lions, giraffe , etc were all active. The giraffe exhibit was nearly a safari park type set up where we could feed them for $2 … super fun and highly recommend!
Patrick T — Google review
Great place, especially during the week it’s less crowded. It’s nice that the animals there have decent sized areas for them to roam ( if you compare it to spaces like the Detroit zoo). Not as many animals, but more open views as opposed to looking through plexiglass to view them. The lion training experience is great to do; the lions are awake and actively roaming. It’s not by the freeway, letting you enjoy more sounds of nature and the animals.
Andrea P — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed the visit. We also had some really good conversations with the staff. We took our time and spent about 4 hours just walking around and seeing the exhibits. It was really cool being able to see the animals up close, especially in the Africa area. Would highly recommend a visit.

Binder Park is a nice place to take small children. Not a zoo I would travel from another state for though. Great for kids between 1 and 6. They have a nice dinosaur area and carousel. They also have a giraffe feeding platform that's cool. The new Skylark ropes course/zip line is super cool. My 4 yr old nephew loved the Little Lark course. The courses are not included with general admission. Overall, it's a fun day for little kids. The grounds are in need of attention. It isn't awful, but landscaping and general maintenance seems to be lacking.

During summer, a co-op farmers stand adds to the charm. The arboretum's Fantasy Forest is a popular mythical sculpture garden attracting numerous visitors annually.
Free to walk/drive around. So far I've only seen the Children's Garden (gorgeous and gate was closed at 5 pm) and the Fantasy Forest (very unique). It's a pretty large place. The office has a sign for no pu lic restroom, but there was an outhouse in the children's garden. There are some picnic tables and benches. Apparently there is also disc golf.

This was a nice accessible place to visit with our handicapped son. The paves paths and grassy areas let us wheel him wherever we wanted. The Fantasy Forest was a hoot. Many of the signs telling what type of trees are there were damaged or missing.

Historic Adventist Village in Battle Creek, Michigan offers a fascinating journey into the origins of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. The three-block village showcases meticulously recreated and restored buildings, such as the historic Parkville Church and the 1856 home of Ellen and James White. Visitors can delve into the stories of African-American Adventist pioneers, explore the interactive John Harvey Kellogg Discovery Center, and learn about the intersection of health reform and religion within the church's history.
I had an amazing time at Historic Adventist Village! My guide, Werlei, was fantastic—he explained everything in great detail and made history come alive. He was incredibly knowledgeable and patiently answered all my questions. Thanks to him, I truly understood the importance of this place. I highly recommend visiting with kids to explore and experience history firsthand. Be sure to ask for Werlei as your guide!

It was definitely an interesting tour and experience. The grounds are definitely needing some work. The homes need some restoration on the exterior parts. The tour guide could have been a little more interesting. Perhaps dress in character and have lines memorized instead of reading from books. All and all, not a bad experience!

Interested in history And how health reform progressed in America? Want to know about one of the greatest cereal makers ever known? Interested in How the Seventh Day Adventist church combined health reform with religion? Then you should definitely come here and get some of everything. The tour guide was very informal and friendly and let us take lots of pictures and try some of the exhibits. It's like a tiny science center for health with all of the interactive exhibits.

Wow what a wonderful time we had. Our study group decided to take a field trip to see Adventist Village. It was a beautiful day we ate lunch on picnic tables and went on our tour. The tour was free, and they had volunteers that dressed up in the time period of the late 1800s. They gave tours of all the different buildings and the history that came from them. I would highly recommend calling ahead and scheduling a free tour to see this historic place, you will enjoy it!

Grocery store
Sights & Landmarks
Horrocks Farm Market, located at 5801 Beckley Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49014, is a unique grocery store offering an extensive selection of produce, a soup/salad/sandwich bar, and a beer & wine bar for customers to enjoy while they shop. Visitors rave about the variety of products available that can't be found elsewhere. The market also offers great deals on plants and features a well-organized layout.
Look at street view or satellite view and you'll see what a transformation has happened here. The location has gone from being a fossil to a vibrant marketplace. We think this is the best of the Horrocks locations, but we like the others too. It's a little bit like going on a trip around the world on a very low budget.
David B — Google review
How often do you find a grocery store where you can drink beer while you shop? Not to mention an airplane hanging from the ceiling. I love the variety of the market here and all of the international items you can find. I get some Japanese drinks, Indian curries and pasta noodles here that I like. They also have an amazing craft beer selection. It's worth a visit just to wander around and look if you've never been.
Joe R — Google review
Horrock is so unique. Remind me of open markets in Asia and Latin America but much nicer. Because many items can be bought by weight and the varieties are different than your typical grocery store. Many local Michigan products that I don't see anywhere else, especially craft beer. They sell game meat here too. You can get elk and bison and alligator if you want, but they are not cheap. Have to come check it out if you are nearby. It is hard to describe it

Huge place with a nice selection. I love getting my veggies from here when Im traveling fro the other side of the state. I wish there was one in Flint.
Ashley Y — Google review
I really like this store. The ambiance is nice. The flowers are pretty. And the array of things you can buy is unmatched. Walking around with a beer while shopping, excellent! The olive oil selection, sea food, scores of bakery goods, salad bar, all the things! 💥 However, my only concern is the bathroom. Those are dimly lit and are in need of* A LOT* of ATTENTION & SEVERE INTENSE DEEP CLEANING. I like how there’s toilet seat covers. But I will not regale you with the repulsive details in the stall I went in. Not a good look. Especially, with such a great store. This was not their finest moment. 💥 I sincerely hope that it gets much needed attention. I’ll try to not have to use that part of the store upon my next return visit.

What do crocodile, beer on tap, dozens of homemade soups, dragon fruit, camel, 7 kinds of sweet potatoes, oil and vinegar on tap, F-R-O-G Jam, a garden center, wraps and sandwiches, sushi, groceries, live music, pickled beets, exotic mushrooms and venison have in common? You can find them all at Horrocks. A new kind of shopping experience, like a farmers market meets a Whole Foods, meets a Nursery, meets a pub.
Nate B — Google review
Horrocks Market in Battle Creek, is truly a gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with an incredible selection of fresh produce, specialty foods, wine, beer, and unique items you won’t find anywhere else. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the store itself is clean, organized, and full of charm. Whether you’re shopping for everyday groceries, grabbing a fresh coffee or popcorn, or exploring their amazing variety of products, it’s always a fun experience. Horrocks is hands down one of the best markets around!

Water park
Located in downtown Battle Creek, Flash Flood Water Park is a family-friendly destination offering indoor and outdoor pools, water slides, a toddler area, and a snack shack. The park operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day and provides an exciting experience for water enthusiasts of all ages. Visitors can enjoy the thrilling 200-ft water slides while younger guests have their own designated play area.
Had a wonderful time with my group. Very nice size to keep an eye on your kids. The life guards do a great job taking care of the little ones coming down the slide that can't swim. (Can't wear life vest on slide). The food was very reasonably priced and everything seemed to be fairly clean.
Abigayle L — Google review
I appreciate the lifeguards being attentive, but where is the maintenance ? We were there as it opened and the bathrooms were dirty with trash in them a lot of bird poop on the walkways that could have been hosed down easily. A lot of the small kids area is broken and has been for years by the look of it. After driving an hour I will probably try somewhere else before making this trip again. We had fun until someone did something in the pool and it was all shut down for 30-40 minutes, which I understand but at that point we decided to start the trip home.
Jeremy W — Google review
This is a fun place to spend an afternoon with friends. I usually go a few times each summer! It's a great place for a group of friends to all spend the day together. The water is clean, lots of lifeguards and food is very reasonablsplashes! 2 slides, big pool, and a small splash area that it zero entry for the younger splashers! My only complaint is the lack of enough tubes on a busy day!
Megan S — Google review
we took some students from Godfrey Lee middle school in grand rapids, mi and they loved it, I used to go with with the students from the after school years ago at another district, great time for kids, cost is good food is good, good place to enjoy with the family
Devery B — Google review
Overall a great time. We had to wait in line because they were at max capacity when we arrived around 130 on a Tuesday. It was our first time and we didn't know about the bogo deal, maybe that is why they were packed to the rim. There was still plenty of room for our three pack and the smaller area was perfect sized for my 3 year old. The bathrooms could have been tended to more often, there was toilet paper all on the floor, but they were okay. Free lockers if available, even if they are a little rusty. The concessions weren't badly priced and there were a good amount of tables/seating/picnic tables. We did not get a tube, but there were a lot of people with them.
Kihla S — Google review
I took my kids here on a weekday. It was so much fun!! My kids are 8 & 10 so they are big enough to go down the water slides. The staff were friendly and really watch out for the safety of everyone in the water.
Stacy A — Google review
This was a small, but fun water park, especially for the elementary age kids. My 3-yr old wasn't tall enough for the two big water slides, but did have fun in the little play structure in the zero entry shallow area. One slide was for tubes and the other for one-person only. The single tubes were free to use, but the double tubes required a rental-deposit of $5. This seemed strange, and even after I got one, quickly decided it probably wasn't worth it. Also, though we had wrist bands to connect us to our double tube, I don't think everyone knew that they were a rental, and when we walked away from our tube, it disappeared and we never found it again. Thankfully, the park gave us our full deposit back. When the kids got cold or bored in the big pool and water slides, they had a few other activities to try out, like the water balloon launcher (normally an extra cost, but the indoor pool was closed on the day we went, so they gave everyone a free bucket of water balloons). There was also the crank-water game that dumps water on the person that cranks the slowest. I didn't get a picture of these, and I don't know if they are always there, but they had an inflatable bounce house and double slide. The kids--even the 3-yr old-- had a blast on these. The kids had a lot of fun, and would consider coming back maybe when the 3yr old is tall enough to ride on the slides.
Cheryl D — Google review
The place is awesome! I use the gym more than the water park but I love how close it is to work and home. The staff are always super friendly and helpful.

Pizza restaurant
Italian restaurant
Steve's Pizza is a well-established pizzeria that offers a wide range of delicious pies in a welcoming and family-friendly environment. It is renowned for serving the best pizza in the Battle Creek area, and although it's hard to explain why, it may be attributed to the generous toppings and excellent crust. What sets their pizza apart is the way the cheese maintains its shape, creating layers of crust and cheese that hold the toppings together.
This Family is Awesome. On a very rare occasion I received a very over cooked pizza. Owner Jeremy reached out immediately and corrected the issue and I was made an Absolute Incredible pizza pie. **Serving up Fantastic pizza the same way they have since I was a kid. If you want a challenge try the Brick!!!
Mike V — Google review
We LOVE Steves Pizza! We always buy an extra one because it's even better eating the next day- I eat it cold right out of the fridge because if I wait the kids pounce and it's gone. Lol the BEST pizza place in Battle Creek, Marshall, Albion, Kalamazoo, Portage, Urbandale, Galesburg, Springfield, Bedford areas... if you are within an hour of this place: make the drive: it's totally worth it! Just with we could get it delivered and we'd order it like twice a week!
Erica J — Google review
Stopped in from out of town based on reviews.. First impression was the young lady working the counter, she was amazing. Super friendly, seemed like she actually liked being there and was not just interested in taking my order and getting me out of there. What a pleasant surprise this was; customer service at it's best. Hats off to whoever raised her, they did a fantastic job. Next up the pizzas, we got 2 ten inch pies, figured 1 for each of us. First mistake, these things were HEAVY and loaded with toppings, and had a substantial crust, waaaaay too much for us to finish. We made it close to halfway, guess we have leftovers today. We got the Brick and our take on a Hawaiian, both were vert good, ingredients tasted fresh, crust was cooked just right with a slight char, there was A LOT of cheese, maybe a bit too much for my wifes liking. Next time will ask for light cheese, but I know most people like a lot of cheese, just putting it out there. Overall, this place is SOLID, and I'm glad we went. Prices were fair too.. CARRYOUT only. Quoted 30 minutes, went back in 35 and it was ready. Go get you sum

Steve's pizza was delicious. I ordered the 12 inch brick. Which has many kinds of meat. Pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon... They only do take out. There is not a dining room
James Q — Google review
We've been ordering Steve's Pizza for 13 years and it's absolutely the best! We moved from Lansing and we're looking for a local pizza place similar to our favorite there. Steve's was recommended to us and our search ended after the first bite. We love the pizza (obviously) but we can't place an order without getting bread sticks, too!
Susan P — Google review
Steve's is always excellent, and you can feed 5 adults for two days on a couple of their 16" pizzas. Just be aware they are carry-out only and ordering ahead is strongly advised as they get real busy during dinner hours.

Breakfast restaurant
The bustling eatery Lux Cafe is a popular spot known for serving generous portions of classic American breakfast and brunch dishes. Customers can enjoy a satisfying meal or snack while watching sports games, making it an excellent place for entertainment. Additionally, the cafe offers a cozy atmosphere where friends and family can gather for dinner or drinks. With its close proximity to the Holiday Inn, it's convenient to secure a table early due to its popularity.
Found this place by accident, I am so happy I did. Their omletts are 4 eggs and more inventive than others I have had recently. Others in our party enjoyed the overside skillets and whimsical waffles and French toast. None of us were disappointed. The place reminded me of an old breakfast spot with good service and a clean atmosphere. The price was very reasonable as well. We will be back to try other things.

Even though the parking lot was packed and the place had a lot of customers I still got a table quickly and my food didn't take long to come either. The skillet was huge and came out in a pan (as pictured) it was awesome. 10/10 would recommend

Very nice Cafe that is obviously popular because the place was packed. That's always a good sign! I had a traditional breakfast and my wife ordered a skillet. My breakfast was very good, but that skillet was the best. Definitely ordering that next time. We also had the stuffed French Toast. It was stuffed with cream cheese and topped with blue berries, strawberry and whipped cream. The cream cheese is just a block and is kind of odd. I suggest mixing the cream cheese with vanilla pudding or powdered sugar to make more of a cream filling. That would be amazing. Also have to give them props for having Pepsi products. Definitely adding this place to my #PepsiStops

Second time here in about a year as we are from Lansing area. Had breakfast both times and we are impressed. Food was excellent, hot and good price and portions. I had a skillet with 4 eggs and I could not finish it all. My wife had bacon, eggs and pancakes and she also had to take some home. There was a wait of about 20 minutes and I hate waits but I think this was worth it. The waitress was always checking on us even though it was busy and kept the coffee full. We spent $25 before tip and we got our money's worth. We will be back next time we are in the area. We highly suggest you try it out and Think you will be pleased!

Introduced to me by my sister and brother-in-law, this restaurant is deceptively unassuming looking both outside and in. Though it looks modest, the food and wait staff are anything but. I've been here three times (all for breakfast) now and can say that on each visit our server was polite and attentive. The menu has a wide selection of meals, especially breakfast. There are omelettes, scramblers, skillets, sandwiches, four different types of eggs Benedict and from the griddle, a tasty variety of pancakes, French toast, waffles and crepes. Everything we've ordered has been excellent. I've had the Mexican skillet, Irish and house (pictured) omelets and have been pleased with all of them. I've chosen pancakes twice instead of toast and they are awesome. If you're in the area and hungry I would highly recommend.

The eatery prides itself on preparing all dishes from scratch daily, ensuring top-notch quality. Guests can indulge in a variety of delectable options, including Italian and American fare.
Visited here for lunch on a Saturday while in the area. Arrived right as they opened. Snagged a seat by the fireplace, which on this brisk day was both toasty and pleasant. The food was delicious and portions were fairly generous. Coffee was individually French-pressed and excellent and served with cream on the side. I like my tomato soup creamy, so I asked for extra cream and was graciously accommodated and the end result was so good. Our party of three had sandwiches and soup....all excellent. Two of us had dessert, which was also very good. Can't speak to dinner (yet) but definitely recommend for lunch and we'll likely be back when next in the area.

Me and my partner have been coming here for 3 years now at least once a month and every single time it has been the best experience. Great atmosphere and the food is the BEST in Battle Creek, in my opinion. Our usual waitress/bartender makes the best Honey Spiced Bourbons. Her name is Haidyn and she is the best waitress we’ve had! Also, Hats off to the new chief! It was a pleasure to meet him in person and excited for the dishes he comes up with!

During a search for quick and local food, a happy and delightful discovery was made at Kitchen Proper after experiencing a long wait at another nearby eatery. Despite not having a reservation, the friendly hostess promptly seated the guests. The menu showcases innovative dishes that make use of ingredients sourced locally. This establishment is owned by a married couple who personally cook, serve, and greet customers. Each dish ordered was delectable with generous portions offered at reasonable prices.
We had a party of 6 and everyone loved the appetizers, dinner and dessert. The drink menu was unusual and those were good too. The salmon, chicken Marsala and shrimp and scallops were all excellent. The waitress was outstanding and knew what she was talking about when she told us we should share the desserts! We didn’t take her advice. 🤣

Kitchen Proper has a cool vibe, the open kitchen was clean and not overly noisy. Our server was great. The food, I'd skip the crab cakes, they are very small for the price and just "okay", the crispy brussel spouts were great, the mushroom soup was wonderful, the both the salmon and halibut risottos were a little over cooked. Our desserts were very good. I gave them 4 stars for the food because it was a mixed bag.

The chef at this restaurant is the kind of chef that you want to prepare every meal you eat. We are traveling and found this restaurant on our last night in Battlecreek/Kalamazoo. Had we found this restaurant our first night, we would've eaten here every night. I had the Chopped Salad, Mushroom Risotto, Chocolate Decatance dessert. I'm Gluten Free, and they had GF crackers, GF bread, and made sure my meal was GF. My husband had the pork loin and he loved it. My food was so delicious. If I could've licked my plate with others not seeing, I would have. This spot is a must stop for anyone that wants to eat a wonderfully professional meal. I need to also mention our server was one of the most sincere, knowledgeable, and attentive that we have ever had in all our years. We hope this review helps you to visit this special place.

We had a nice meal on the patio and our server was friendly and attentive. Reservations highly recommended. Desserts are delicious, but I don’t understand the chocolate syrup with everything (key lime pie and carrot cake).

Amazing food and service! Waitress was super kind, sociable, and had excellent menu recommendations! While their pastas/staple dishes are great I definitely recommend trying their features, the creativity and passion that the chefs hold absolutely shows in every dish.

This gem is nestled in Battle Creek MI downtown between several other sub par restaurants. I'm so happy that I decided to finally try this place. Atmosphere is warm and inviting, drinks were amazing. I had some Rum walnut drink that was absolutely the best. The food didn't disappoint. I had the venison fettuccine, and the meat so tender and delicious. The Ceasar salad was top notch, and the Gouda cheese dip was the perfect mix of smoke filled flavor with a hint of sweet heat. Normally I raven to the principle or rustica in Kalamazoo to eat, but I am very thankful to find out Battle Creek has a restaurant on par with those fine establishments.

Good restaurant for Battle Creek, several interesting chef's specials and unusual cocktails. Small restaurant with what feels like quality ingredients that gets quite noisy when busy. Helpful and gracious, (if a bit too busy) staff. I'd go again next time I'm in Battle Creek.

Ramen restaurant
Umami Ramen is a modest, compact establishment that offers a variety of Asian dishes, such as ramen and udon soups, Korean burritos, and other Pan-Asian delicacies. Patrons can enjoy delectable bowls of ramen and chicken with dark and red sauces, which can be mixed together for a delightful culinary experience. The menu also boasts options with more spice for those seeking an extra kick. Despite the generous portion sizes, the prices are surprisingly affordable.
More of an Asian fusion place than a Japanese restaurant. A variety of build your own noodle bowls with "Korean burritos" and rolls on offer too. This was my first time eating here and it was very good.

See 2-8-24 Update at bottom: (4.5 Stars) Excellent food I would have given 5 stars however the chicken was on the bland side. She uses high-grade all white meat. I just wish it had more flavor substance to it. Everything else does an excellent job of carrying the chicken, from the seemingly house made Ramen noodles to the flavor-packed curry sauce. Excellent fresh ingredients apparently at play here! 2024 UPDATE Loss a star. I alway base my ratings upon value. Value=[Quality/Cost]. Even though there was a small slip in quality from very little chicken inclusion, it still was very tasty. The issue came from the reduced quantity and increased cost. This $10 bowl end up costing over $17 without tip. See pictures.

It's real easy to drive by the restaurant if you're not looking for it. When I entered the restaurant, it didn't give me that "WOW" effect, however the steady stream of customers did! The menu is written nicely on the chalk board and you pick out what you want to eat and they make it for you. The food is delicious. Very seasoned. We ate at the restaurant and my portion was enough for two people. Noodles inside the shrimp egg roll was unexpected. However, it worked! The restaurant is moving to a larger location in April 2020. Stay tuned!

Wish this place wasn't so far from our house. Simply amazing food. Literally every single thing that I have ever ordered from here has been top notch. This will be added to our rotation of top eats in the area.

Always worth the stop when we're in Battle Creek. Lots of vegetarian options. Great Ramen with broth choices. Favorite is the fat tofu veggie egg rolls.

This place is amazing. The food was absolutely delicious. The menu was easy to navigate and the staff were super friendly. Myself and another customer had food allergies and the staff answered all of our questions and made sure we knew what was fried where. They are vegan and vegetarian friendly, which can be hard to find. The restaurant is small and so is the parking lot, which wasn’t a big deal to me. We did notice they will be closed 4/14-4/30/18 for spring cleaning but will be open again in May.

So I loveeee this place! Firstly, the staff is very nice and the owner supports the community. Even though lines can get long, you don't feel rushed. The food is very affordable, they clearly understand our pockets. Then there's the food. I ordered ramen chicken curry , it's the type of food that makes your eyes roll back. You get to add all of your garnishes. I also tried the loaded wontons and that tasted soo good. I can't wait to come back and try more foods!
