It was a Saturday and the State Capitol was closed and did not have a lot of time, but seeing it was first time here, decided to walk around and look at some of the architecture, statues and signage. To read about when the capital was built and restored was very interesting. The grounds around the Capitol are kept very neat. Will definitely come back to spend some more time at Michigan's State Capitol.

We had an amazing time here today! The guide/staff was super friendly and brought my parents a Chinese version of Capitol intro brochure 😊 Mom is especially happy! I learned a lot about Michigan history and how they spent tax-payers’ money 😂

Special visit for me, the 50th state capitol I have visited, a quest since ~1973. It’s heartening to see such a beautiful restoration, and some work still underway to replace/restore the translucent glass tiles of the rotunda floor. The paintings throughout are interesting and beautiful. We took the tour, which is one of the most nicely executed tours in any state capitol, starting in the relatively new underground visitor center with a film presented in the orientation room. Knowledgeable guide, and even a short presentation by a (former?) State Senator on the Senate floor. Michiganders should be proud, all should visit.

It’s a good time to visit the Michigan State Capitol now with the weather getting better. FYI the guided tours are available Monday through Friday. If you are a larger group it’s recommended to make reservations. The reservations can be made through their official website. They are also open on the first Saturday of each month!

Construction of the Michigan State Capitol building was completed in 1878 and houses the chambers and offices of the Michigan Legislature as well as the ceremonial offices of the Governor of Michigan and Lieutenant Governor. Inside and outside of the building (and grounds it reside on) are beautiful and worth a visit. Staff is friendly. NOTE: They don't have a gift shop, but the Michigan History Center (a short walk away) has a real nice one. For parking, recommend the South Capitol Ramp parking garage just a few blocks away.

Nice capitol building with public tours. The new learning center gives a good overview of the history of Michigan's capitol buildings (all 3 of them). It was a bit confusing to get down to the visitors center if you enter through the public enterance, but there are enough signs to guide the way. There are guided and self-guided tours available. I did a guided tour which gave good insight as to the history of the building. The guided tours also get to peek inside the governors ceremonial office, which is closed otherwise. Overall a nice way to kill time and learn some Michigan history.

The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, located on the campus of Michigan State University, is a striking contemporary art museum designed by Zaha Hadid. Named after local philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, the museum features international contemporary art exhibits in a visually stunning venue. The building's unique design includes glass and stainless steel elements that create an eye-catching architectural spectacle. A great FREE experience! If you are looking for something to do in the area this is a great one time stop. It is free for the general public and there are always events for MSU students. A very organized well thought exhibit layout also adds to the experience. There are also so many hands on experiences there is always something to do!

The museum has a unique collection of art that really catches my eye. A lot of creativity is clearly shown in each piece I walk by. I recommend coming here in your free time just to enjoy what this place has to offer. It really clears the mind and makes you just appreciate the little things through looking at the art. It is a calm and interesting experience that I would like more people to do.

This place is really interesting. Starting from the building, it's got such a unique shape that it instantly captures your attention. Then there are the exhibits which are unique and mind boggling. The staff are extremely helpful and try to answer as many questions as possible that you would have on art.

Not too big, but not too small. The atmosphere was nice, fairly quiet and calm. Good variety of art. I enjoyed the small interactive stations.

Parked at the MSU parking garage just five minutes away. To my surprise there was a lot of attention for spirituality in the digital age. To me it seems we are reinventing the wheel once again. If we go for horoscopes to understand ourselves and others around us, showcase a person that resembles the pagan priests of old and interweave that with an image of the fright of a calamitous god - it leads us to think about our self fulfillment and self direction. What is lacking in my opinion is an image or representation of an adventurous Christian life with God. To live in partnership with Him Who created us as his servants. What does all this means in the world today. Maybe this representation can be added to the exhibitions. The architecture of the building is creating a great atmosphere. I like the way glass was used, maybe the concrete a bit less. To me the building resembles a boat cutting through the waves of the sea, exploring new territories. But do not forget where we are coming from.

Great museum with plenty of exhibits to check out. They are smaller in nature but nonetheless very interesting. Not a bad perk when they had free ice cream from the MSU Dairy Store as well!

The museum is great!! 🤗 I enjoyed and loved the art, it was breathtaking and inspirational. The architecture of the building??? Amazing!!! You need to see it in order to enjoy it. I wish I could spend a little more time in there. But next time, I definitely will be there for long 😊

If you’ve never been here, you should go! And if you’ve already been here.. you should go again! This is a great little museum for both adults and children. There are multiple floors of exhibits, a small cafeteria to enjoy a quick snack and an awesome gift shop full of Michigan keepsakes! Best of all, Sundays are free, so there’s no reason not to visit!

I was unaware that Saturdays are free! What a pleasant surprise. Im in Lansing for work, and decided to stop on a day off. A casual stroll, and reading of 65-75% of the items.. was about 3.5hrs. So much information! I was unaware how pivital Lansing was in the grand scheme of the development of the united states. The mesh between educational, personal, political, and fun... was well done. Im not sure if ill get a chance to stop through here again anytime soon but if i do, i will be.

Absolutely love this place but won't be back until customer service is vastly improved. I drove 40 minutes with a 6 year old and 2 year old. We arrived to see school field trips no big deal we drove all this way. Had to make our way through a sea of people just to make it the front desk. Come to find we are the only one actually in line waiting. Ticket person is on the phone shows Absolutely zero signs of recognition to me or my children. While another employee stands there with a clipboard doing Absolutely nothing say she will be right with you. We proceed to wait over 15 minutes without a word spoken to us. While the lady with the clipboard does Absolutely nothing the entire time. I get the lady on the phone is busy but counted 3 employees just standing around. So we proceed to leave. I tell the lady with the clipboard how terrible of service she is providing to the public. Instead of apologizing she gives the snarky attitude and just says have a good day. She then proceeded to follow us out saying the lady at the front desk wanted a word with me. I told her no if she wanted to have a word with she should have while I was standing there. She continued with snarky attitude and condescending comments. So yes I used harsh language by my patience only runs so far. Put your stupid clipboard down and help the one customer that's standing there. One customer that's literally it. Me and my boys and can't manage to help at all. TUES Nov 25th. Lady with clipboard needs major instruction on how be in customer service. I don't care if it "not your job" you can either a handle the phone call or step in and help. Instead of standing there. Disgusting

Fascinating trip through Michigan's history. Lots of recreated spaces from Michigan's past: territorial days, mining, timber industry, manufacturing, and Arsenal of Democracy. I didn't grow up in Michigan. The museum taught me a lot about the State's history. Also had a super interesting, temporary exhibit on personal technology. It was a fun trip down memory lane with things like VCR's, floppy disks, and Atari.

From the retreat of the glaciers at the last ice age to the present day, this museum takes us through the entire history of Michigan. There are so many exhibits and so much to learn. We spent two hours there and probably could have spent another two because there is so much to see. Highly recommend visiting if you have an interest in history or Michigan in general. The museum is well laid out, colorful, and informative. We paid $24 for two adults and two youth, well worth it! I am looking forward to our next visit.

Absolutely cool, so much to learn and things I didn't know living in Michigan my whole life. There's 3 floors of things to learn about, read about, videos being played, cool old fashioned things. I would definitely recommend taking a self guided walk through if in the area, you could spend hours reading and seeing everything!

Very educational museum! Brought my mother in law for her 65th birthday and she had such a great time! We loved the expansive and detailed facades and it was nice and quiet for a Saturday. I hadn't been since I was a kid for school and I think everyone should visit again as an adult!

The Impression 5 Science Center, located in Downtown Lansing, has been a popular destination for families since 1972. With over 150 educational play activities and interactive exhibits, this long-running science center offers hands-on learning experiences for children. From bubble-themed and Spectrum light and mirror exhibits to building zones and a nuclear experience, there are plenty of opportunities for kids to engage in fun and educational activities.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND, there is so much for kids to use their minds and have fun doing to while they learn. We spent about 3-4 hours here and well worth the money. This is a great family adventure to do together and all ages will enjoy. Although, if your kids or grandkids are like mine and enjoy water you may want to bring an extra shirt, 😂. My 3 and 8 year old grandkids loved this place. And all it has to offer. There is even a sensory area upstairs which is awesome.

Michigan State University is a renowned research institution located on a sprawling riverfront campus. The campus boasts historic red brick buildings covered in ivy, creating a picturesque setting amidst lush greenery. Visitors can explore notable landmarks such as the Beaumont Tower, Spartan Stadium, and the Sparty Statue. The university's close proximity to East Lansing offers opportunities for further exploration and dining experiences at unique establishments like the Golden Harvest Restaurant.
Michigan State University has a beautiful campus. The campus really shines in the summer and fall. The red brick buildings are iconic. Close to a commercial hub with shops and restaurants. The red Cedar River is a gorgeous river that runs through MSU campus. Spartan Stadium is imposing. Many statues and sculptures scattered throughout campus. Parking is a nightmare though.

I’m blown away by how pristine of an upkeep Michigan State University upholds. I’ve been driving back and forth since they have top level animal care and emergency room and every visit the entire premise is being kept as clean as I could ever ask for. It’s a peaceful environment with people upholding the speed limit and folks walking along the striped lines. I’m shocked by how many departments they have and how beautifully the staff presents themselves with high level respect and demeanor. Thank you for the top level skills and knowledge!

The campus is beautiful! Watch out closely when driving, students are everywhere and they don't pay attention to cars. You might want to pre-download the "Pay by Plate" app, so it's ready when you find a spot to park. Parking is difficult to find, or even to know where it's okay to park. Do your research ahead of time. The walk down the Red Cedar is gorgeous, especially in the fall. Go green! 💚

Japanese restaurant
Sansu Sushi and Cocktails offers a delightful fusion of traditional Japanese cuisine and modern dining aesthetics. Nestled in East Lansing, this restaurant is renowned for its extensive menu featuring everything from sushi to katsu, all served in a chic yet inviting atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the unique experience of sitting at low tables in a shoeless area that mimics the feel of dining on the floor, adding an authentic touch to your meal.
Fine sushi with lots of choices. We had the famous Godzilla roll, Fusion roll, rock and roll, Spicy Salmon roll and Volcano roll. The fusion roll is a deep fried outer, which is a departure from many of the other sushi. The green tea was also great. Call ahead, because the restaurant gets busy.

It was our first time here and let’s say we loved it. Atmosphere was pretty cool. I was surprised I had to take my shoes off to dine in the area we ate in. The server was very attentive and made great recommendations. We all dug in before I could get to many photos but believe me everything tasted great. If you’re in the area I highly recommend making it one of your stops!

This THE place to go in Lansing for a beautifully prepared and presented and of course fresh and delicious Sushi! Beautiful interior. Very Japanese. Fabulous service. You can't go wrong if you like sushi or other related Japanese dishes.
Mark C — Google review
This place is so cute. The soup was great, and they had the best ginger salad I've ever had. The sushi was sushi. We had 2 really good rolls, but nothing really stood out. I was also disappointed they didn't tell you the names when giving you the plate. So I'm not saying the sushi was bad, but that same sushi at another place. I would expect to pay $11-15 at the most, not $17-22. I also didn't like that the prices are not offered on the menu but on a separate piece of paper.

Excellent sashimi! Best in Lansing area. Chefs' choice deluxe was fresh, served beautifully, and was high quality. Service was ok.
Darrin M — Google review
I have to give more than just one star because Sansu is absolutely by far my favorite sushi restaurant to ever exist and will always be. Their food is so good and quality. I’ve never had a complaint about service either. I’ve been going here over a decade it feels like. However, yes I understand inflation is a thing and understand the economy blows, but in the last couple years their sushi prices have DOUBLED. And yes I remember what they used to be lol. For only a couple years, I don’t think they should have doubled. It used to be pretty affordable, although still higher end compared to others in the area. Now it’s pretty unaffordable and a total splurge if I want to ever go again and that makes me so sad. Their basic special Cali roll used to be priced at $6, now it’s $13!!!!! Their samchee roll used to be priced at $8.50, now $15.50!! Soup and salad almost doubled if you do take out (I know it’s free sit down still thankfully). I’m also noticing that I think prices have increased even more in the last month. Like I said I get inflation and economic times but to double in just a couple years and comparing to other restaurants in the area, they are very overpriced now and I’m so sad as a regular. 😭😭 I can’t imagine others have not noticed this either as a review before mine mentioned their prices being too high as well.
Calli B — Google review
Today I’m going to make a short review but I tried this place and basically everything was good. The sushi was really good. The Noodles were tasty and savory. I also had crab bites that tasted amazing. Just don’t get the salmon items like Michigan rolls. I unfortunately didn’t really like the salmon on the Michigan rolls but this is a good place to eat around this area.
Malika P — Google review
It's good quality sushi, but you're paying for the fancy building, seating arrangements, and private rooms. I can think of 5 better places in greater Lansing, much cheaper, quality is equal or better. This is cute for a first date or holiday, but prices have doubled in the last 12 months.

Bar
American restaurant
HopCat East Lansing is a lively brewpub near the MSU campus, featuring intricate woodwork and over 100 draft beers. It's popular among beer enthusiasts and casual diners, offering creative pub fare and delectable brunch items. The young, energetic crowd creates a vibrant ambiance, with special events and trivia nights adding to the excitement. The menu includes classic bar options, with crack fries being a standout favorite.
The chef makes some really good selections with a beautiful and fun bar theme. They specially do a wonderful, inspiring job of incorporating beer, cheese, and potato. The beer battered Cosmik fries side with cracked pepper and cheese sauce is good and unique. The honey sriracha boneless wings with ranch are uniquely flavorful. These are a middle sized portion. As a third selection, the really good beer cheese soup is rich and creamy once moving past the beer taste. Without a side fry, the chef generously tops the soup with tasteful potato. I wish they served a heartier produce option of a side house salad filled with more quality vegetable. Also, I wish to find in more cities honey sriracha fried chicken and beer battered fries. 🐥 🍯 🥛 🍺 🥔 🧀

First time to order from Hopcat and the food was average. I got fish and chips with coleslaw, fries and some sauce. The fish was crispy, the coleslaw was good, the fries was oily and the sauces were fine. 3 stars is enough as I have tried way better fish and chips in several other places.

We attended HopCat in Ann Arbor, MI the evening of University of MI 2025 season football first game which was a night game a couple weeks ago. So fun! I've never been to HopCat and that was my first choice for an early dinner. It was very packed like all other restraunts so we got to sit outside in their umbrella table sesting area on a warm late afternoon. So epic! My son is a brewer on West Coast so I'm a brewmaster Mom and loved the beer choices. 🍺 so cool! Awesome place and I will be back soon!! 🏈 💛 💙

The hangover helper is literally one of the best burgers I've ever had in my ENTIRE LIFE! The fries are perfectly crispy and seasoned just right, plus the drink selection is amazing! 5/5 will be going out of my way to come back again. We visited for the first time on a very busy afternoon/evening (MSU homecoming game) with 45+ minute wait times for a table and the food still came out great in a timely manner.

I can not say enough great things about our visit here! We were in East Lansing for work and my kids wanted to go out to dinner that same night. Hop Cat was within walking distance of our hotel. Our server Jacob was phenomenal! He was quite possibly the best server we have ever had. He was very patient with us while we were looking at the food menu and reviewing the drink menu. He offered many suggestions drink wise. Jacob also helped my fiancé find his “unicorn” beer (Toppling Goliath Sosus to be exact) later during our dinner. He recommended the raspberry basil meowgarita to me which was delicious. Our food arrived perfectly! We ordered an appetizer and a few sandwiches/burgers. Everything was hot and fresh. My sons really enjoyed the Buffalo Mac and Cheese and Rodeo Clown burger with loaded fries. Their cosmik fries are always a hit! Highly recommend coming to this location!

Attempted to order on DoorDash and all ordering was closed so we called into the restaurant. The hostess was really nice at first, but took a really long time. We were on hold for a while when she came back she had a terrible attitude took our order. got the order right but the order coming from the kitchen came out terribly Wrong. My burger was very undercooked with absolutely none of the toppings and I paid for the meal and its entirety, as you can understand I’d be really frustrated by this. There were a lot of things missing from our order and the quality wasn’t that Good.

With its fun and friendly environment, this late-night bar always has awesome deals and is well-preserved in the memories of countless patrons.
For decades this place has been making great burgers and chicken sandwiches. Much easier to get outdoor seating when the students are out of town. Every time I pass through town I stop here. Mild pepper burger with fries. Delicious. And the traditional long island iced tea. Staff very friendly.

This place has super basic but super good fries! Two of the burgers pictured are “baby burgers,” they were not so baby, I definitely loved that. Small menu but good food! Lots of up-charges for add-ons, either way, service was great. Had a great time in the sun today!

The Peanut Barrel is located in a lively spot near the university, so the atmosphere is always buzzing with energy. The menu covers all the basic food options, making it a reliable choice for a casual meal. We tried the Chicken Shroom Burger and the Reuben Sandwich — both tasted fine, though not particularly outstanding. The service was attentive and friendly, which made the experience pleasant overall. 👍🏼

I had heard about The Peanut Barrel and how it has been a longtime staple in East Lansing and decided to give it a try! The Peanut Barrel is a no-frills type of place with a simple menu that generally delivers what you’d expect. The burger lunch special is a good value and I found it to be pretty satisfying. The restaurant itself is a bit dingy but some might say it has character; it sort of reminds me of what being on campus would have been like 40 years ago. Nonetheless, the service was good, the food was fairly solid, and the price was fair. Just keep in mind that there are a lot of little up charges for things like burger toppings. Sometimes you just need a simple burger and The Peanut Barrel delivers just that!

I personally dislike when a burger patty doesn't cover the entire bun, leaving you with nothing but bread for the last bites. While the crispy, burned cheese that fell from the patty may appeal to some, it wasn't for me. The waitresses seemed tired and unhappy, which was reflected in the service. We were also told to expect a 30-minute wait for our food, which felt excessively long for a menu consisting of simple burgers, salads, and handhelds. It was probably not their best day.

The burgers never disappoint—always juicy and flavorful. The fries are perfectly crispy and evenly cooked. The patio atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, right in the heart of Michigan State’s campus. Service is always excellent, staff members are kind and attentive to dining needs. Joe is amazing and one of the best servers on staff. I tried the strawberry shortcake which was made by Peter. Amazing dish. The strawberry compote was fresh and the raspberry chocolate ganache was a perfect balance between sweet and tart and the entire dessert incorporated different textures of crunch and gooey. I would recommend to anyone and thank the staff for placing it on the menu!

Came here because of a Groupon deal. Otherwise, I think the food is a bit overpriced. Service is not the best because college-kids-don't-care theory in action again--probably why they're not doing so great and promoting on Groupon. 1. Asked for a secluded area, and was seated in the most visible table. 2. The waitress never came to tell us she was leaving and the new waiter had to introduce himself to us, awkward...

First time back since COVID. The dinner menu is smaller than before, but still have plenty of local beer and wine options. Ordered Mini Lump Crab Cakes (3 for $15), Charcuterie Board ($17), Venison ($37), 6 oz. Char-Grilled Filet ($39), Lake Perch ($26), Homemade Passionfruit Sorbet ($7).

My date and I experienced the State Rooms sunday brunch buffet this weekend, it was fantastic, the salmon with chardonnay sauce was my favourite. Our waiter was excellent along with our host. I would recommend making a reservation and to note that one can reserve a more private dinning room similar to a conference room. They served Paramount brand coffee, we purchased a pound of from the restaurant before we left. I recommend the State room for a more upscale brunch option.

This review covers four meals over the course of a three day stay at the Kellogg Center. Meal One was the best of the bunch. Kristen W was our server. She couldn't have been better. She was friendly and attentive to all of our needs. I had the small Bistro salad. It was fresh and tasty. Among the best I have had. I followed that with the Smoked Turkey and Lentil Soup. Though just the slightest bit salty it was very tasty soup. My entree was the special of the day; Adobo rubbed pork loin. It did not disappoint. Followed that with some MSU Dairy Chocolate Ice Cream to end a satisfying meal. Day 2 lunch was a bit underwhelming. Due to a conference at the hotel the restaurant was busy. Ordered crispy chicken sandwich and fries. Everything took way longer than it should and the food was on the overcooked side. Somewhat dry. Took a long time to get check and even longer to get change. Day 2 dinner. Darrel M was our server. Again I had the small Bistro salad. Again it was excellent. Followed that up with a bowl of Smoked Turkey and Lentil soup. The portion was very small for a Bowl. It was not filled sufficiently but was still tasty. Had the New York Strip for entree and it was cooked as ordered and well seasoned. Day 3 Lunch. Conference still going on. Staff still overwhelmed by the number of diners. Ordered something simple, a burger and fries. Burger was ordered Medium. It was dry and somewhat tasteless. Learned a lesson from previous lunch and requested check at time of food delivery. Still took just over an hour from start to finish. Restaurant knows when conference is at hotel. I think they could do a little better job staffing appropriately so the dining experience at lunch time was better. If I could give two separate reviews it would be four stars for dinners and Two stars for lunch. Thus the three star review.

Mediterranean restaurant
Woody's Oasis is a popular Mediterranean eatery known for its classic dishes and vegetarian options. We love Woody's! Woody's is my absolute favorite restaurant! They have delicious Mediterranean and American food, great service, and affordable prices. Our personal favorite is their hummus( it is absolutely fantastic)! We would and do recommend this to our friends and family!

I purchased the chicken schawarma with rice combo for $20. I received a 3oz container of chicken, a 3oz container of rice, and a 3 oz container of hummus. When I called to confirm this was correct, the person who answered the phone was extremely rude and condescending. I think it’s great food, don’t get me wrong, but the small amount of food you receive is not near the $20 price tag.

I’ve been eating at the Trowbridge location since 2001, when I was pregnant with my son. That child is now finishing their doctorate at MSU. I’ve never had an opportunity to live in Lansing but always made it a point to stop through for a togo order when I am nearby. The food is always consistent, fairly priced and above and beyond everything else, delicious! My order of the last 24 years has involved some combination of the items pictured. The only other thing that I consistently get is a cauliflower wrap. The vegetarian grape leaves, baba ganoush and falafel are also really good. They have so many vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free items available. Their menu is very clearly labeled.

Woody’s Oasis was recommended by the staff at Michigan State University vet hospital. This was the first time we visited this restaurant. The counter staff person was friendly, offered menu suggestions and answered all of my questions. She even told me the best way to eat the Falafel wrap! We spent about $27 on two falafel wraps, side dishes and drinks. I spent another $10 on a tray with a variety of desserts. The falafel would have been sufficient by itself - very filling. I would definitely make an hour drive just to come to this restaurant again! The food was delicious!

First and foremost the food was OUTSTANDING! The spice in the samosas was just right while still leaving the flavor. I wanted a dozen of them but they only had 11, which was fine. They were different than the samosas I had at another Mediterranean restaurant but none the less, they were still excellent. The spicy chicken shawarma was packed with flavor and was a good size portion. I didn't want to stop eating it. The rice was perfectly cooked as well and soaked up a lot of the tasty juice from the chicken. My 2 sides for my shawarma were spicy hummus and Greek salad. The hummus was so creamy and delicious. The salad was very good but I was real shocked when I took my first bite and chomped down on an olive pit. Not so pleasant that's for sure. My daughter got a wrap with spicy hummus and her boyfriend got the gyro. The 2 employees ringing people up were pleasant as well. Woody's definitely exceeded our expectations and I can see a return trip in our very near future.

Food was underwhelming overpriced and will not be back. Asks how you want you burger and instead of med. We'll they give burned and tasteless pre-made patty. Cabbage rolls were bad but not what expected only 3 rolls with the "tomatoes" was two slices of the top of a tomato with the stem still inside and two and a half pieces of purple what I assume was pickled radish for 16+ dollars! The burned burger and some chunks of veggies thrown in a small container with vinegar was 14+ dollars. I was expecting better because I love mediterranean food but I'll stick to our usual place from now on.
