Specialty Museums
The Lincoln County Historical Museum in North Platte, Nebraska is dedicated to educating the public about the state's history. The museum showcases exhibits that honor the early pioneers and settlers of the area, and also features a gift shop selling memorabilia. In addition to being a museum, it serves as a historic village with well-preserved structures. Visitors can learn about the fascinating historical narrative of the North Platte Canteen.
This place has had much thought and hard work put into it to display many different aspects of life in North Platte. I highly encourage visitors and spend plenty of time. The museum has many interesting local and personal artifacts. I did not spend enough time here. There is a working phone booth with phones that have the hand held receiver and fixed mouth piece. The outdoor museum has many building with furnishings that demonstrate life in North Platte. Our central goal was to visit the Sears catalog house (Fredricksen House). There is plenty of space to walk around and for children to spread out. Parking is easy next to the museum building and cost is very practical for the type of exhibits.

Such a great collection of so much local history! The outdoor buildings added a much larger dimension to the story of Lincoln County. Plus being able to go into many of them was an added bonus. Really enjoyed the canteen remembrance section, such an amazing effort by so many people!

We stopped by right before close one day. I can tell you, and hour isn't enough time to enjoy this amazing museum. The people working there were very kind, the indoor displays in the main building were very well put together, and the outside... that's where the majority of our time was spent. What an amazing collection, our kids loved it and didn't want to leave. We will definitely stop back out the next time were in town, this time, we will be sure to commit several hour so we can see everything.
Justin T — Google review
Fantastic place that is frequently overlooked. Not very expensive to get in. There is so much here that 2 hours is a really fast visit. The indoor museum is only 1/2 of what there is to see. The back yard has houses look in, buildings full of tractors, fire engines, a few cars, a train depot, a caboose, and a ditch plow that was pulled by 48 oxen. Also a church, a schoolhouse, and a barn are out back to tour. Kid and parents found plenty to look at.
Jack S — Google review
Was a very good museum. Had a lot of nice things and excellent display of the Japanese during WWII. Also had some buildings including a church, school, train station and my favorite was the mail order house would recommend every one to check it out
Karen R — Google review
We accidentally found this place looking for the Scouts Rest location. Well preserved history of the county. We love going to small museums and seeing the artifacts that built our country. It is run by local women and men with no real huge funds. But the well preserved buildings outside, old tractor collection, military and times past inside. They were not officially open, but were more than gracious to let us walk around. If you stop to see Buffalo Bill’s house, take a little longer and go see this place.
Jody D — Google review
I only have one complaint. Like a lot of small museums, these kind and caring folks have more articles to display than they have space to adequately display them. Other than that, the people are friendly, helpful and seemed to be appreciative that I was there. The buildings on display, I think, represent the early years of Lincoln County in a very good way.
Terry H — Google review
Are you kidding me? This place is beyond amazing. Give yourself a few hours and take your time. I sped through it in 1.5 hours....and would have liked more time, but they were closing. Bring comfy shoes as you will be outside to view the old buildings. (Which by the way are so amazing) a must visit while in the area....I enjoyed it so much.

Souvenir store
Fort Cody Trading Post is a must-visit in North Platte, resembling a frontier log stockade with mannequins and toy rifles outside. Inside, it's a mix of gift shop and museum featuring authentic Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild West memorabilia, along with a mechanized Wild West Show. This roadside attraction offers history and souvenirs, but be prepared for the minimum purchase requirement for credit card charges.
What a fun place. The museum was fun and informative. The artistry was very impressive. The gift shop was a lot of fun too. Lots of old school candies...a trip back in time. Well worth the stop!
BL W — Google review
I love this place! We made it a point to stop here on our trip. The museum is small, but it's a great place to get out and stretch your legs. It's conveniently located off the interstate and close to a lot of restaurants and hotels. The souvenir shop is excellent! They have stuff you can't find anywhere else. The prices are quite reasonable for a tourist stop. I will always stop here when traveling through North Platte.
Jason B — Google review
Fun place to stop and pick up souvenirs. They have a cool working train set to view every 30 minutes. Lots of variety of things to buy. Great for kids
Libby — Google review
This is an absolute must see. There is a muffler man in the back and a 2-headed cow beside the miniature replica of Buffalo Bill’s show. So fun!
Cyndi F — Google review
Stopped in while passing by on a road trip with my family! What a cool place! Souvenirs, candy, collectables, hand made items, lots of cool stuff to see in there, even a mini museum! 10/10 recommend stopping in on your way through! :)
Lexi S — Google review
A very cool place with lots of souvenirs and a large selection of books. The miniature Buffalo Bill Wild West Show is amazing.
Mitch H — Google review
Having lived in LeClaire, IA growing up, I was very familiar with the Buffalo Bill stories. Having traveled I-80 a lot, I've always wanted to stop in and visit this location. Nice shop, friendly staff and plenty of information to be found. Worth the stop!
Niels B — Google review
Old fashioned tourist stop. Right off I80, exit 177. Free museum miniature display. Every western souvenir available, for kids and adults. Shirts, old fashioned candies, jams, stuffed animals, figurines, toy bow and arrow, cookbooks, history books, postcards, shot glasses, jewlery, knives, moccasins, etc. Friendly staff. Don't forget to press a penny or buy a lucky wooden nickel.

Historical landmark
Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park is a fascinating destination in North Platte, offering a glimpse into the Wild West era. The park features Buffalo Bill's historic ranch, including his 1886 mansion, barn, and various outbuildings filled with Cody memorabilia. Visitors can explore the grounds, go horseback riding through Dusty Trails, and enjoy hiking trails and fishing at the state recreation area.
Wow! North Platte knows how to do parks! Huge trees, wild animals (caged, not roaming around), carnival rides, food, .... We had a blast!
Darcy H — Google review
There is a fee for admission ($35 and up for a day pass as I recall), which is higher for out of state visitors, so I basically drove through the parking lot and moved along. The rodeo arena next door however, had an event going on with free entry, so opted for that. I would have liked to have learned more about Buffalo Bill. Perhaps some historical marker signage closer to the road.
Jeanette W — Google review
A historical home that is beautifully designed and well maintained. Pictures of Buffalo Bill's family and friends are on display throughout his home. The 148 ft. barn has Buffalo Bill posters, wagons, carriages, saddles, pictures of Annie Oakley, a diorama of Buffalo Bills's family etc.
Marilyn M — Google review
Fun little area to check out, if you like Buffalo Bill! We also found a geocache while there! It was fun to walk around and see the house and the fields that make up the ranch
Elyri — Google review
Interesting historical mansion with lots of photos and memorabilia of Wiiliam F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Apparently, he earned his name for slaughtering over 4,000 buffalos. Thereafter, he was employed as an army soldier, somewhere in his life, as a showman. He performed wild west shows throughout the country and became very successful.
Maria P — Google review
We did not get a chance to see the building due to the fact that they are closed on Mondays. Though we did walk around got a few great pics love the place.
Beau T — Google review
Wonderful experience. Well maintained inside the house and out. Automatically felt right at home with the friendliness of the hostess and even the groundskeepers. I recommend this to anyone passing through North Platte. It's only about 5 to10 minutes from I-80, but oh, so worth the stop! Great job, Nebraska! We'll be back!!
Tony H — Google review
Such a beautiful place to see! We enjoyed looking around at all the pictures and history inside of the barn! The grounds are gorgeous and just super peaceful. Definitely recommend a stop!

Nature & Parks
Cody Park in North Platte, Nebraska is a diverse recreational area offering various activities and attractions. The park boasts seasonal concessions, an animal enclosure, a train display, sports facilities, picnic spots, trails, children's rides, and food stands. Visitors can enjoy the ornate antique carousel and observe a large collection of animals. Additionally, the park features a full-sized disc golf course for enthusiasts to try out.
Outstanding family friendly community park with campground, small amusement park, playgrounds, ball fields, train museum, zoo, disc golf, pool and lots of picnic areas. Clean and well maintained, day use is fee free and $15 for campsites, (campground is closed for season). I had 3 bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming, no wifi and 8 OTA television channels.
Will H — Google review
We were in town for 2 nights and needed to take my daughter someplace to run around. I saw Cody Park on the map but had no idea what it included. We were shocked and highly impressed. First we saw a pool then rides and as we continued the loop an Elk swimming and deer! I didn't even know there were animals here. What a great surprise! We ended up spending 3 hours here. My daughter rode 4 rides for $2.00. We all had ice cream for $7. The playground in the back was amazing and we loved the trains! Pat the man that worked at the train museum was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We really enjoyed talking with him. Also the 2 young male attendants that ran the rides had the kids hysterical. They were joking with them and shooting the kids with water guns. They loved it. I highly recommend visiting this park. Especially the kids playground in the back.
Michelle I — Google review
Great place to stay and camp a few days. There are no hook ups or showers, but this is not to be missed if you're in the area. The park is clean, well kept and so much to do. There are four playgrounds, a zoo, a pool, ball field and small amusement park area for kids with rides. There is also a train park where you are able to climb up into train, sit in the engine and walk through cars. They are also in the process of adding pickleball courts.
Tammy M — Google review
This place is very cool and if you love trains, be sure to check out the Challenger X3977. She's a beauty and they even let you go up in the cab to show you just how huge she is. Its amazing!
Amber F — Google review
I’ve driven through North Platte over a dozen times and had never noticed this park. Way worth the stop. I had a wonderful walk, making a great break, and even saw the captured deer and elk in the pond.
Michael M — Google review
Great playground for kids, loved looking at the animals, beautiful walks near the water. Lots to see!
Liz B — Google review
We planned Cody Park as a stretch your legs stop on a long road trip with kids. We stopped found a shaded picnic table across from the lake by a playground, got to the table and was immediately attacked by mosquitoes. Moved from the grass and shade to the playground in the sun and still fought them off. Moved to the kiddie park and still fighting them. City needs to spray and get them under control so the beautiful park can be enjoyed. On a huge plus the concession stand had 4 options for dairy free soft serve ice cream and it was amazing I give a 5 for the ice cream and a 2 for the park so I will give the overall experience a 3.5
Kerri L — Google review
Large park with a variety of recreational opportunities. I came to see the trains, and was very happy with the fact that visitors can get right next to the locomotives and rolling stock; I learned something about the Centennial engine that I'd long wondered, but never been able to observe at close range. The Challenger and Centennial are two of the most famous locomotives in American railroad history, and it is special to have them both publicly displayed in North Platte.

Lively atmosphere and good beer. Food menu was extensive for a brewery as well. Plenty of TVs to watch the sports games. Service was attentive and friendly. Love the keg urinal in the men's bathroom too. A nice touch!

We dropped into Pals for a bite and a few drinks after a long day of driving and enjoyed it immensely! he atmosphere is lively, casual, and fun. It's a huge establishment with lots of indoor and outdoor spaces and plenty of staff to service both. The outdoor patio features a beautiful spacious lawn, with fire pits and loud music. I tried a Bloody Mary and a Cucumber Mule from their cocktails, and Carrie had a strawberry rhubarb (not a typo) and a pineapple beer. All were delicious. And my Mary came with a chaser beer - our server recommended the pickle to compliment the drink and he was spot on. We ordered the Hawaiian pizza and it was delicious, with a thin crunchy crust and plenty of cheese and ham. Drinks and pizza together it was an excellent meal, and combined with the party vibe and rambunctious crowd the whole experience was just awesome. We'll make sure to include Pals on our itinerary anytime we're passing within 100 miles of this place. It really was great.

Pals Brewing Company was a great find as we travelled through North Platt. We were looking for a place to camp with our camper and they graciously let us stay with our Harvest Host subscription even though it was late. The salad, pizza and beer were delicious thanks to the chef and brewmaster. The entire staff are super friendly and helpful. The outdoor fun space is great for entertainment with horseshoe pits, corn hole, beach volleyball court and other games. We are so glad we found this place. Definitely a place we will return to as we travel through again. Thanks Pals staff for a wonderful experience.

We stayed here overnight as members of Harvest Hosts (RVers overnights) and couldn’t have asked for a more accommodating and friendly venue! Their location is on outskirts of town with the most incredible view of the Nebraska sky! Of course we experienced the Keegans Pizza and Spinach Salad with Bleu Cheese, Walnuts, and Cranberries!!! So good!!! The employees were ALL INCREDIBLE and so friendly! Great place! Our dogs loved the bark park too! Thanks for accommodating us! Loved everything!

We stopped at Pal’s for our second time traveling across I 80. They have an area for RVs to stay thru Harvest Host. a great place just off the interstate at North Platte. The pizza is fabulous. The beers are terrific especially the Irish Stout. My daughter is a celiac and had their gluten-free option for pizza. she liked the pizza lot and although they do not have a dedicated oven, she did not get sick. The staff is great and very friendly. Don’t pass up Pal’s.

Diner
Penny's Diner is a 24-hour dining spot with a classic American menu and a charming 50s-themed decor. The diner is housed in a unique train car design, adding to its appeal. Despite its small size, the cozy atmosphere adds to the overall charm of the place. The service is friendly and relaxed, allowing guests to enjoy their meals without feeling rushed. While some reviews mentioned cleanliness concerns in the kitchen area, others praised the fresh and tasty food served with a smile.
Got a chicken fried steak breakfast with French toast and a strawberry milkshake. All the food was amazing and heaven the server was excellent in checking to make sure I had a pleasant experience. Highly recommended!!

Their grill was broken so they had a condensed menu, but that didn't stop the food from being any less delicious! The club sandwich and fries were delicious, and the mint chocolate chip (using Andes mints I think) has got to be the best shake I've had in a long time. The place has a nice theme, the workers were friendly and it's a great location for anyone on a road trip passing through or staying at one of the nearby hotels.
Kyle R — Google review
Such a cute and classic diner experience! Like the kind you see in the movies, with it's retro vibes and airstream-like exterior, offering all the best classic diner fare. Legitimately being open 24 hours is amazing too! Will definitely be bookmarking for future adventures out west, it's the perfect quintessential road trip stop. The service wasn't the "sweetest" at first, but honestly it added to the charm and experience, and she warmed up to us by the end :) Root beer float was just as good as you'd expect, and I had the Frisco melt burger which was delicious. Their t-shirts were so cute, I had to get one!!

Wife and I stopped in for some lunch yesterday and we were not disappointed in our decision to come here. Waitress was all smiles and very pleasant taking the orders. We both went with the classic diner food, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and a salad. Taste and texture was on point made for a very satisfying meal. We will be back.

Very good food, my waitress was outstanding and very nice. She also cooked my food as well. I always stop in here when I come through.

Stopped here on a road trip with my family. My hubby and I have always talked about and wanted to try this place but never felt we had time or it wasn't meal time when passing through North Platte. We finally got to try it! My toddlers split a kids meal and each got a super chocolatey chocolate milk. Hubby and I each had a burger. They were delicious! I am a fry lover so I felt like I wanted more fries when the food was delivered but by the time I was done with my portion, I was full and satisfied. Price was very reasonable. We'll be back!

Grill
Restaurant
Canteen Bar and Grille is a practical hotel restaurant and lounge that offers classic American cuisine for both lunch and dinner. Visitors have praised the attentive service, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere of the establishment. The generous portions of food received high marks, with particular praise for the prime rib's flavor and tenderness. While some dishes like the chicken kabobs were found to be somewhat dry, others such as the butter chicken curry were described as bursting with flavor.
Ordered so Chicken Curry and Naan Bread to go. It was fantastic and a good portion considering the cost. Almost couldn't finish it but I did. Came back in for dine in this time and once again on point. Server Lisa was attentive and polite

Came in to a surprise, seafood buffet and the star of the show of course the Crab Legs! All good food I enjoyed the shrimp and squid linguini!

Good service & a quiet atmosphere. New owners have created a very different menu from the previous establishment with a mainly Indian based menu. The garlic naan bread was not great and the steaks were just ok.

Excellent dinner and service. We had the New York steak. Perfect medium rare. Not the usual mixed vegetables. Varied menu. Not the usual pub food.
Lisa B — Google review
First off this isn't a canteen and grill. Change the name... Service is horrible. We were a party of three with only one other table inside and ordered. I ordered the 2 piece chicken basket and he ordered the Cajun pasta. No kid drinks like milk or juice. No kids options at all for food. A table of six came in after us. They got their food before ours. Waitress never came back after she brought the food after waiting a half hour and fries were cold like they had been sitting there the whole time everything else was cooking and the other tables food being made. No refills on drinks. They had at least 6 employees standing walking around not really doing anything. Two stars because my husband did like his Cajun pasta. Get a new chef that can run the kitchen properly. Improve customer service.

Applebee's Grill + Bar is a popular full-service chain known for its casual atmosphere and hearty American cuisine. Despite some mixed experiences, many customers have praised the delicious food options, such as the classic bacon cheeseburger and the "impossible burger," which received positive feedback even from younger diners. While some guests had encountered less-than-ideal interactions with certain staff members, others have commended the attentive and friendly service provided by employees like Amy.

Severely disappointed. After driving 10 hours we thought we would stop here for a decent dinner, after we checked in to our motel. The greeter looked like he was not having a great day. No smiles and just going through the motions. We were seated within 15 minutes. The waitress came by about 5 minutes later. We asked for a few minutes so we could decide on what to order. She came back about 5 minutes later and we ordered It took 15-20 minutes just to bring our drink order back. The waitress apologized as she thought someone else was going to bring the drinks from the bar. She said it was her fault for not verifying that. About 5 minutes later she brought our food. We then asked for silverware since there was none at the table. She came back with forks and napkins so we asked if we could also have knives. She apologized and said she didn’t know if we would need them. Do they normally not bring forks, knives, and spoons to the table??? My wife’s French onion soup was ok. She didn’t eat her side salad as the romaine lettuce was darkened around the edges. It looked old. We were credited for that. My chicken strawberry salad was tasty although, as I write this, I realize I never received the breadstick that was supposed to come with the salad. Drinks were good. Based on last nights service I would not come back.
Gary R — Google review
Our waitress was very sweet and did a great job but the food was beyond mediocre... Steak and burger over cooked and very charred. All of the fried food was functionally drenched in oil... I'm guessing the didn't drain it just pulled it out and dumped it on the plate.

Ive been to some restaurants over the year’s traveling , but this tops it all. Service was so bad. We sat for 30 min and then we finally ordered appetizers it took another 30 to get to the table including our drinks, and this place is not even busy. I can count how many people are here on one hand. Then 20 min for the the server to ask what we were having. If I could give this place a minus -5 I would. It’s sad and disappointing that this can happen. They really need to pull their heads out.

Visited the Applebee's in North Platte Nebraska for the second time in 1 month. Again, we were on the our way home from a quick trip to Estes Park Colorado and we're hungry for a good meal. As we expect from Applebee's, this restaurant delivered. We had the two for $25 meal option and both of us had the classic bacon cheeseburger for our entree, proceeded by onion rings for our appetizer. The burgers were excellent, the onion rings were also very very good. Good job Applebee's! (The following was from a month ago.) Excellent meal at the Applebee's in North Platte, Nebraska. My wife had the Fiesta Lime Chicken, and I had a Cheeseburger. We also had an order of onion rings. Both meals were cooked to perfection, just as we have come to expect from Applebee's. We were on the way home from a week vacation in Colorado, were hungry for a good meal, and we got it! Our meal was at about 3:00 p.m., both of us used the restroom facilities, and I can report that they were pretty clean even at this late hour. Good job Applebee's!

This place is terrible. Been there 2 times in the last 2 months and it has been an awful experience both times. Service was terrible the first time and walked out the 2nd. Went in at 4:30 and only 2 other customers in the restaurant, asked to sit at a high top in the bar area and the hostess said she would have to find us a server. Overheard the bartender and another waitress give her hell for sitting us there. Bartender must be lazy! Told the guys we were leaving. And we did. Such bullshit. We will never be back.

It was okay, took about an hour for our food to get here even though it wasn't very busy, and personally felt like fries were either too salty or too bland and not really enough, the tenders were pretty good tho, good crisp and not wet, overall okay but needs some improvements.

Italian restaurant
Luigi's Italian Restaurant is a local favorite in North Platte, Nebraska, offering a wide array of delicious Italian dishes. The modest and low-key environment sets the stage for an authentic dining experience. Guests rave about the homemade bread and fresh daily offerings such as pastas, salads, pizza, and desserts. The Veal Marsala over spaghetti pasta and limoncello cake with mascarpone frosting are particularly popular choices.
Coming from Denver wasn’t sure what to expect as I was just driving through, everything was so good and my server was so amazing. I don’t usually leave reviews, but Cadien was one of the best servers I’ve ever had. So friendly and inquisitive. I watched him interact with the younger staff so politely. He was really informative and nice I can’t say it enough about awesome he was, especially listening to how he talked to everyone. I’m definitely it that patient. 5 stars for sure. Food was great on top of the service.

The service was friendly and the food was good. We had spaghetti with meatballs and it came with a side salad and bread. The ranch dressing was excellent. The interior could use a bit of attention as the ceiling tiles are stained and the AC vents are really dirty.

We discovered this place while visiting from Vancouver Washington. Yes, we were in beef country but after a couple days here in town, Italian sounded good. This place was amazing. We were greeted by a friendly staff and seated right away. The food was fantastic. We all tried different dishes from fettuccine alfredo, lasagna, pizza, chicken parmesan, and salad. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted awesome. This place is a gem and we can't wait to return.

We drove from Rapid City this morning and ended our night at Luigi's Italian restaurant. The entrees and the service were excellent. But instead of playing traditional Italian music, the background music is old country songs. I don't need Vivaldi or Puccini, but I'd like something that makes me feel like I'm in the region that aligns with the food. So I've got tears in my eyes when I'm trying to eat my salad, because I fall apart every time I hear Don't Take the Girl by Tim McGraw. I can't be the only one. Anyway, when that song ended, I ate every bit of food that was put in front of me (my wife ordered Fettuccine Alfredo and I got Pasta Primavera), and then got tears in my eyes again when our great server Rachel said they were out of crème brûlée. So many emotions in one meal. Anyway, this place is great, and I'd be happy to return.

Alex greeted us as soon as we walked in and made us feel so welcome. Rachel was a wonderful server as well. The food was great. My sister and I had plenty of vegetarian options. We also enjoyed a nice glass of wine.

AMAZING!!! Everything we had was delicious! My husband got the tour of Italy, I had a seafood pasta (can't remember the name), and our kids had spaghetti. The adult dinners came with a salad, I had the house Italian Dressing and it was seriously the best Italian Dressing I've had. The bread rolls were phenomenal. The service was spectacular and the price was better than we expected it to be. The next time we're in North Platte we'll definitely be back!! Sorry, no photos because we were so focused on how delicious everything was.
