Algiers

Algiers is the capital city of Algeria, on the country’s Mediterranean coast. It’s known for the whitewashed buildings of the Kasbah, a medina with steep winding streets, Ottoman palaces and a ruined citadel. The 17th-century Ketchaoua Mosque is flanked by 2 large minarets. The Great Mosque has marble columns and arches. The clifftop Catholic basilica of Notre-Dame d'Afrique features a large silver dome and mosaics.

The Martyrs Memorial, also known as Maqam Echahid, is a significant concrete monument in Algiers built in 1982 to honor the 20th anniversary of Algeria's independence. It pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the struggle for independence from colonial France. The monument consists of three stylized palms meeting at mid-height, entirely made of concrete.
FIVE STARS – A hilltop monument overlooking the capital city of Algiers commemorating the Algerian War for Independence against France 1954-1962. Incredible views of the hillsides, waterfront, city, and surrounding communities...
Robert B — Google review
Great spot to admire the view on the Algiers bay, to walk with kids , unfortunately the parking lot is too little for such a landmark, and of course the parking guys walking around holding bats to remind you to pay them for not stealing you car !
Nabil G — Google review
A powerful tribute to Algeria’s history and heroes. The Monument aux Martyrs in Constantine is a beautiful memorial dedicated to those who sacrificed their lives for Algeria’s independence. Located on a hilltop, it offers a panoramic view of the city and its famous bridges and gorges. Different views day and night. The site is clean, peaceful, and ideal for reflection. Informative plaques and statues help visitors understand the monument’s symbolism and historical importance. It’s easily accessible by car or taxi and worth visiting both during the day and at sunset for great photos. A must-see landmark for anyone exploring Constantine.

I wish I could have seen more, but I was short on time and they had some of the outside restricted to keep out tourists when I went. The outside is great, a very imposing monument towering into the sky with 3 detailed statues around the perimeter. Unfortunately, i couldn't get a good view of the 3rd statue, and the center was blocked off. Inside was a real surprise. I had no idea they had an entire museum underneath the monument, and a GOOD museum at that. Unfortunately, no pictures are allowed, but it was top-notch. Tons of artifacts, documents, maps, and dozens of ornate paintings of various Algerian great people over time. The model displays were particularly interesting, and the life-size displays were some of the best I've seen in any museum, period. I will warn, they don't hold back on showing blood and bodies in their displays and paintings of the fighting with the French over time, and there's a detailed display of various torture methods used. Underneath the museum was a very impressive room that I was told is the Dome of Contemplation. This room was particularly ornate and beautiful, living up to its name. The only downside, other than some areas outside being closed, was a very limited amount of English translations. The various exhibits had translations of 100% Arabic, 90% French, and only maybe 20% had English translations. Overall an excellent monument and museum, I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting Algiers or Algeria.

Every country has the monument or the touristic place that identifies the tourism, for me, Martyrs Memorial is the Star of Argels, you can't leave without going there. Or, you can't say you where in Algiers while you didn't go there.
Catia S — Google review
A powerful and iconic symbol of Algeria's struggle. The monument's striking design and panoramic views over Algiers are breathtaking. A deeply moving tribute to the sacrifices made for independence – a must-visit for understanding Algeria's spirit. 🇩🇿

The Martyrs’ Memorial in Algiers is a truly impressive and iconic site. It’s spacious, beautifully designed, and surrounded by lovely scenery. The weather is often pleasant, making it a great place to walk around. Inside, there’s a fascinating museum filled with Algeria’s rich history. From the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea and the city. A must-visit spot for anyone in Algiers!

A really interesting place, worth visiting to see how old houses in algeria looked like, a big garden, very clean and so much to see inside, you can take pics how much you want, and its quite cheap too

Bardo National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography in Tunis presents an impressive sweep of human history, from prehistoric artifacts to Roman mosaics, housed in a beautifully restored former palace.Walking through its galleries, you feel the weight of centuries and the creativity of countless civilizations—an experience both humbling and inspiring. The museum shines in celebrating the Ottoman legacy in North Africa, which resonates beautifully with Turkish-linked heritage. Overall, a deeply moving visit that connects past and present in a rich cultural embrace.

Amazing museum loved it the lighting and the vibes of pre history part and the authenticity of the palace amazing 😻

I recently revisited the Bardo by night, it was a pleasant experience. Its architecture is beautiful and I love the newly renovated sections with the projectors. Still, I wish there were more things to see. It feels pretty empty compared to what it used to be back to when I was a kid.

All Museums in Algier are kinda small and do not require much time. It would be nice to include descriptions in english, so non-french speakers could also enjoy exhibitions in full:)

Beautiful place to immerse in the charm and creativity of algerian architecture and decor. Entrance is very cheap and the museum is well kept and takes about 40 minutes to explore.

Loved the architecture, the small doors and shimmering windows. I think the other museum outside was closed so the tour felt rather shortlived.

Le Tantra is a dining establishment in Algiers that boasts unparalleled pizza options, allowing patrons to savor the most delectable flavors imaginable. With offerings like Canimal, Samora, Buffalo Pizza, Tuna, Shawarma, and Supreme adorned with luscious tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, diners are transported to the culinary paradise of Italy. The level of service provided at Le Tantra is exceptional while the ambiance exudes magnificence.
It is a very good and classy restaurant in the city. The food was very delicious and the service was very good. The Algerian wine was also very tasty. It is slightly a bit expensive I shall say.

One of my favorite places to dine in Algiers, especially during the summer. The staff are very professional and friendly, Kamel and Mahdi are always the best host ! I highly recommend Tantra if you are in Algiers.
Hakim A — Google review
One of the best chic restaurants in Algeria. A bit expensive, but fully justified by the quality of the food and service. It’s perfect for couples, business dinners, or groups. I’ve been going there for a long time, and the food has recently improved, a great change. The atmosphere is romantic and elegant, with soft lighting and beautiful decor that reflects Algerian identity. Everything is clean, including the toilets. The owner or manager is kind and professional. Starters are fresh and delicious, I highly recommend the stracciatella with eggplant and the fish carpaccio. For dessert, the millefeuille or crème brûlée are both excellent. And the coffee? Easily one of the best in Algeria, real Illy, made just like in Italy. A solid 10/10.
Khadidja K — Google review
First time comers, my wife and i had so much fun together. The food is just top notch, you can’t go wrong with it, thanks to the professional staff and the owner who got a great taste. Wonderful!

I honestly think that this restaurant has the best variety of food, the food tastes really good. It has a non smoking area and a smoking area. On the overall it’s a decent place with great food & drinks selection.

Dining at Tantra restaurant and Lounge in the heart of Riadh Al Fath's 'jungle' is an experience that transcends the ordinary. From the moment you step into this outdoor trees and red carpet flighting roof , you're enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility and natural beauty, making it a true escape within the city. The service is impeccable, attentive without being intrusive, ensuring every need is anticipated. But the real star of the show is undoubtedly the steak with penny bun. Cooked to absolute perfection, the steak boasts a beautiful crust and a tender, juicy interior, a testament to the kitchen's mastery. The earthy, rich flavor of the porcini mushrooms (penny bun) complements the meat exquisitely, creating a symphony of tastes that lingers long after the last bite. Every dish served was a culinary delight, showcasing fresh, high-quality ingredients. Tantra isn't just a meal; it's a five-star gastronomic journey.

Restaurant El Djenina, a pricey yet delightful dining establishment in Algiers, offers a delectable fusion of Algerian and French haute cuisine. Its remarkable ambiance, attentive service, Algerian wine selection, and exceptional dishes make it a memorable culinary experience. The chicken couscous is particularly mouthwatering with its generous portion that can easily be shared by two patrons. This traditional restaurant is managed by a friendly and professional owner who ensures top-notch quality.
A nice traditional restaurant, the owner is a nice and careful person, very professional. The couscous is great and chorba is a must. I recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a business, a family or a solo diner in Algiers

I can highly recommend this restaurant. The quality is extraordinary and the service is very attentive for all needs. In case you get the opportunity to stay for dinner here, you should also try the starters and desert. We tried all kind of traditional food.

One of my best international meals ever. You could not ask for a better setting or service. And the food - amazing!
John D — Google review
Our group was separated as we were told the restaurant was fully booked. As evening wore on, nobody new came in. We could have easily sat near each other instead of being in two separate rooms. Don't like the attitude if restaurant. As for good, generous servings but, the evening was ruined for the nearest factor
Nadine W — Google review
Expensive but delightful restaurant serving mix of Algerian & French haute cuisine. Has to be delightful cuz at the end of the meal one has to be quite happy to pay for the bill which could come up to 2-3 months of Algerian worker's salary!

Restaurant Le Bearnais is a long-standing establishment known for its specialty in meat, particularly entrecots and sirloins. The menu offers a mix of French and Algerian cuisine, with limited options for fish dishes. Situated in a somewhat dimly lit location on a narrow street off Didouche Mourad street in Algiers, the restaurant boasts friendly and accommodating staff who are fluent in French.
Wonderful experience where the taste, the atmosphere and the service meet together giving you a pleasure of dinning. I spent an exquisite evening with my wife there. The grilled fish was delicate, yet full of herbal taste. My wife was a bit restrained at first about ordering the lamb tongues and then she enjoyed it very much. Although the Algerian wine was delicious. I recommend this restaurant especially for the European tourists.

Cozy and calm place, with good service and food. We had the grilled lamb chops which were done at perfection. I recommend without any hesitation.

La Renaissance restaurant is a recommended establishment in Algiers, offering a slate of dishes that vary according to the day's fresh ingredients. Their cuisine is of high quality and the service provided is very satisfactory. The prices are reasonable, making it a great option for dining out. Despite having a slightly outdated brasserie style decor, this place still comes highly recommended. Additionally, La Renaissance offers wifi access and serves delicious coffee, making it an ideal spot for enjoying both work and leisure time.

A classic place that has existed ever since I was a kid and maybe even before. The atmosphere is very cozy and reminds me of a classic french restaurant. The servers are welcoming and are open to answer all your questions. The menue changes daily so you can't really decide what you want beforehand. The food however was not up to my expectations, considering the prices i expected better portions and taste but i was let down. The garnish/side dish was the same no matter what you order which gave me a bad impression since it shows that the chef is quite lazy. Considering the fact that the food is the most important part here i sadly wouldn't recommend this place.

On the menu side we are surprised every time and in a good way, a slate constantly revised according to the arrival of the products Tasting, everything is there, we feel the freshness and the know-how of the chef, the dishes are really tasty and plentiful as desired Service which is the best on the Algiers square, the so-called great tables should learn from it Good luck to them (Original) Par quoi commencer, le décor est vraiment au poil avec le nom, tout les éléments décoratifs sont là pour nous mettre dans l'ambiance. But we had to wait more than 35 minutes to get our orders. The food was not bad! Except the three cheese penne whose cheese was not very consistent. The drinks: I loved the mojitos!!! I loved this restaurant before, I would love it to go back to how it used to be! (Original) Tout d’abord, le décor sensé être vintage est devenu quasiment un boui-boui ! Nestled in the heart of downtown Algiers, Restaurant Arabesque offers a delightful escape into the world of Syrian and Lebanese cuisine. This casual diner is renowned for its mouthwatering shawarma and an array of dips like mutabel, hummus, muhamara, and labneh—perfect for gatherings or work events. Upon entering Arabesque, you're greeted by friendly staff who promptly seat you in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Came here twice in 2 days and will go back! Great food for real good prices. Even the rice was packed with aromatic flavours, I recommend the lamb chops. My girlfriend is vegetarian and it’s not that easy in Algeria for her to eat out but here she had plenty of options!

The food is really good, the place is clean and the service is good they are very nice as well as fast, it's just annoying that there is always a lot of people waiting outside to get a place, so it may take time but if you are lucky to avoid that it will be lovely

This is perfect example of how you run/manage a restaurant, superb to everyone who works here. We decided to go here because La Ravioli in downtown closed down. Upon walking in the staff was smiling and seated us within 2 minutes. The menu is simple to read with pictures and prices. Now the food…the portions are huge and family style so you can share and still get full. The falafel had a nice crispy texture with a hint of cinnamon I believe. If you want Syrian food this is the place in Algiers to go. The staff was very quick to clean the tables and I also loved the silverware was packaged so you know you have clean and sanitized silverware. My husband and I loved everything about this place. Will definitely be back again.
