Water & Amusement Parks
AHHAA Science Centre, established in 1997, is the largest science center in the Baltics. It offers an array of interactive exhibits, a planetarium, workshops, and a science theatre with special effects. The center provides an engaging and educational experience for the whole family. Children can enjoy hands-on experiments and various shows while exploring historical medicine collections dating back to 1803.
This is a must visit for a family day out. The exhibits are interactive, hands-on and engaging for visitors of all ages. The cafe is a great spot for lunch with daily specials and a kids menu. There is free parking in the basement. The gift shop has a wide selection. Highly recommended if you in or near Tartu.

We visited with our family and were absolutely impressed. We’ve been to several museums of this type, but this one deserves a full 5 out of 5. The exhibits engaged everyone – both adults and teenagers. There’s a lot to see and do, so we never got bored. We spent 3.5 hours here, and the time flew by. We could have stayed even longer, but unfortunately had to leave. The museum is enjoyable for children of all ages – even the little ones will find plenty to do. Everything is very interesting and well thought out. The only area for improvement would be providing more visual instructions, such as icons or pictures showing what to do or where to press. There’s also a café on site – we didn’t try it, but it’s great to have the option for a break. I would happily visit again.

This is a fantastic place to visit with your children. Everyone will find something interesting and amazing here. We go there every year and will do again! It’s so great to see how,as children grow up, their understanding of things changes each time. At the planetarium,we always choose one of the films that corresponds to the children’s interests at that moment. Amazing!

Really fun and educational. Not just for kids but for grow ups too. Some reviews already mentioned the interactive elements in the centre and the bike is one not to miss! Easily spend a day if you are interested in the science behind the fun. Highly recommended.

Tartu Town Hall Square, situated in the heart of Tartu, Estonia, is a captivating destination for visitors. The square is surrounded by well-preserved buildings that showcase the city's history and charm. The iconic Tartu Town Hall with its Gothic-style facade stands as a prominent feature. Lined with cafes and restaurants, the square offers a charming atmosphere for exploration.
A nice square with beautiful Christmas decorations. Interesting stalls with artistic ideas and also a stall with mulled wine. There is also the possibility of ice skating on the square⛸️

Tartu’s town square is the heart of the city, lined with pastel-colored, renovated buildings that reflect its rich history. Cobblestone streets add charm, while statues and playful fountains bring the area to life. The “Kissing Students” fountain stands out as a popular photo spot and symbol of the town’s youthful spirit. It’s a perfect place to stroll, sit on a bench, or relax at a café terrace. We really loved this place! 😍😍😍
Kaisar T — Google review
It’s a beautiful plat, cool eating place outside, one can walk around, generally not crowded too much. Also ha tourist information centre located here. Kissing fountain is the place to take some pictures. Walking distance from the bus station.

Tricky to review a square unless it's unusual or spectacular. The Town Hall Square is wide and long, with a gentle slope and a pretty fountain in front of the Town Hall. It's cobbled and quite unspoilt. There is a small coffee shop with outdoor tables at the top right, near the fountain, but smokers should note that they don't allow smoking at the tables. There's also a good-sized pub about half-way up the square with reasonably-priced drinks, but it's an Irish Bar and, as an Irishman I try to avoid these when I'm travelling, so I can't review it. Rüütli Tn leads off the square, pretty much between the café and the pub, and has a large selection of restaurants in most price brackets
Niall C — Google review
Such a lovely cobbled square with lots of cafes.

Town Hall is an amazing place, and the vibe is extraordinary. Lots of nice cafés and restaurants around. One can visit in the evenings to enjoy the surroundings. Some upgradation work is going on as the city has been declared as the cultural capital of Europe, and there are 300+ events lined up in 2024. Town Hall Square is the centre of all tge events and activities.

Amazing center place. Has many activities during the year. It serves as a main passing point with a lot of restaurants, clubs and stores on the side streets. There is also a park and shopping center nearby. It get busy on weekends/party days and it's a beautiful place overall

Museums
The Estonian National Museum (ENM), also known as ERM, is a modern museum located in Tartu. It was founded in 1909 and reopened in a new building in 2016. The museum showcases Estonian culture and folk art through its permanent exhibitions, 'Encounters' and 'Echo of the Urals,' which cover Estonia's cultural history and the Finno-Ugric peoples.
North of Tartun, the runway of the former Raadi Airfield appears to rise from the ground, revealing a gigantic, ultramodern building. What visitors see here is the main building of the Estonian National Museum (Eesti Rahva Muuseum), which opened in 2016. Founded in 1909 to house Jakob Hurt's ethnographic and folklore collection, the museum showcases the history, life, and traditions of the Estonian people and other Finno-Ugric peoples in Estonia. The museum opened in 1922 in Raadi Manor, the manor house where the Von Liphart family's collections were already housed. Between 1940 and 1991, most of the museum's cultural artifacts were hidden from the occupying forces. After regaining independence, the Estonian government launched a design competition for a new museum building in 2005. The French architectural trio Dan Dorell, Lina Ghotmeh, and Tsuyoshi Tane won the competition, and their design has been open to visitors since 2016. The museum is a highly interesting destination for anyone interested in learning more about Estonian (and Finno-Ugric) culture, folklore, and history. Thanks to the interactive information panels, this is also easily accessible for non-Estonians. Highly recommended!

The Estonian National Museum is a wonderful example of the harmony between tradition, history, and modern architecture. The exhibits are presented in very interesting ways, with engaging formats and solutions that capture your attention. The museum’s spaces are beautiful, creating a pleasant and inspiring experience. There is a café where you can grab a bite – the food was fresh and tasty. We visited with our family and spent about 2.5 hours here – everyone really enjoyed it. Recommended for anyone looking to combine culture with a delightful time together.
Ieva I — Google review
A very great and technologically advanced place. The exhibitions are creative and interesting and well-detailed with a lot of informations that don't feel much and dry. Keep in mind, that you will need 2-3 hours here to fully explore the place, so visiting 1 hours before closing is not reccommended!!
Tamás M — Google review
An incredible and comprehensive history of Estonia. You could easily spend a couple days here exploring everything in depth. Half price sunday admitting was a nice suprise!
Pizzarocket — Google review
The Estonia National Museum is a stunning destination that seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology to create an immersive and interactive experience. Its extensive collection spans historical artifacts, cultural treasures, and modern innovations, providing a comprehensive journey through Estonia’s rich heritage. One of the museum’s most impressive features is its use of advanced digital technology. Visitors can engage with interactive touch screens, audiovisual displays, and digital guides to explore the context of each exhibit in detail. The museum also offers augmented reality (AR) features, bringing historical objects to life in fascinating ways. Beyond its technological appeal, the museum is thoughtfully designed with a modern and open layout, making it both comfortable and visitor-friendly. It beautifully balances the essence of traditional culture with a futuristic perspective, offering a harmonious blend of the past and the present. With its exceptional collection and innovative approach, the Estonia National Museum is an ideal destination for history enthusiasts, technology lovers, or anyone seeking a remarkable museum experience. Highly recommended! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Visiting the Estonian National Museum in Tartu was an unforgettable experience. The architecture alone takes my breath away – bold, modern, and yet deeply rooted in the nation’s history. Inside, the exhibitions tell the story of Estonia with such creativity, depth, and soul that you feel both educated and moved at the same time. This visit has made my love for this remarkable country and its warm, resilient people even stronger. A place where past and present meet so beautifully – I cannot recommend it enough.
Michaela S — Google review
We got tickets that are an interactive part of your visit, you can change the info posts to your own language with them, but sadly the big screens rarely worked and many of the games are only in estonian. All in all worth a visit, reserve at least 3h-4h if you want to go through everything.
Elina — Google review
In my opinion it's a must visit. Absolutely massive museum so be prepared to spend many hours there. They have a nice option to switch all posts to English or other languages with a tap with your ticket on the screen. What I noticed though was that the screens kind of have a timeout set up when they are switched to another language (they switch back to Estonian after some time) and it interrupts the videos and it's impossible to finish them with the subtitles you want. We were also a bit unfortunate to come at the same time with a group of very impolite and loud school students but we changed the order we viewed the exhibition to not be in the same place with them to avoid disturbances. Overall, the museum is just so unusual for Estonia - it's absolutely gigantic and has so much air. You can think of MOMA in New York and it's on par. Except this one it about ethnographic history of Estonia, which is more interesting in my opinion.

The University of Tartu Art Museum houses a permanent exhibition featuring full-scale plaster replicas of Greek archaic, classical, and Hellenistic sculptures. These replicas were acquired in the 1860s from various museums across Europe to enrich students' understanding of art, history, and culture. The museum is a prominent attraction in Tartu, Estonia, offering a diverse collection of contemporary and modern art.
Great visit, thanks to the university students who guide you through the old university building and the secret prison room. The art department is a funny experience in how teaching worked in the beginning of the 20th century.

It’s a very small museum and you feel a bit like in a art school when you were a kid. Id say - visit with kids, they will love a tiny Egyptian room
Marta Y — Google review
Exciting place for entertaining your kids with basic scientific facts such as electricity experiments, some of them were not functional though, energy transfer etc. Plus museum. The library is renovated so we could not enjoyed the place. Last floor is not necessary recommended for kids as it is all about skeletons and related
Jerome G — Google review
A bit of a walk to the start, but I loved the place. I spent good 5min staring and this one specific statue. Quiet, beautiful. Worth it, if you appreciate art
Gabrielė M — Google review
It wasn't particularly interesting - bunch of reproductions of famous statues from around the world, some local paintings. The highlight were the 2 mummies. The DNA related installation with the bibles was also quite interesting. Was included into combined ticket from the University of Tartu Museum
Jurijs K — Google review
There was 2 interesting exhibition. 1. Mummy chamber 2. Death mask Rest of museum, i would say, was okey.
Tural K — Google review
A fantastic museum! A lot of various exhibits, you can find pieces of art from different ages. Faces of death exhibition is truly fascinating, the video stories grab your attention. And it's really interesting to see Egyptian mummies in Estonia as a part of a different exhibition. Definitely recommend!

Kampus is a trendy three-in-one restaurant located in the heart of Tartu, offering a unique dining experience with a variety of dishes served at each counter. The establishment features Uulits, an Estonian street food pioneer serving delicious burgers, as well as KAUSS, where patrons can enjoy Asian-inspired fare. Additionally, visitors can savor slow and fast food at Peakoka nurk helmed by talented chef Ken Trahv.
We visited this restaurant with friends. The atmosphere is very cozy, our waitress was very friendly and helped us to understand where to order food. The food was delicious, we ordered chicken and duck bowls with rice and two chicken wraps. My friend also said that the cacao was amazing! Thank you, greetings from Lithuania✨💛

Enjoyed my time there. It's nice that the place allows you to order from all three places within the building. So there's something for everyone.

Overall from 10 I would say 7/10. Not something crazy or anything. The crispy chicken was okay, gochujang tartare was good and the katifi shrimp was okay as well. Nothing too exciting but like….okay. The cocktails were very interesting and I would suggest to try them. For the food, I would suggest it as well but only for 1 time.
Jorke R — Google review
Went to the Peakoka Nurk food station. Great food, especially the baked cauliflower and the mackerel tartare (the squid was good too, the patatas were not as exciting as the rest). Service was very good and fast. FYI you can share food from other food stations at the same table.
Thomas A — Google review
This place left a very pleasant impression, the food and the atmosphere were really enjoyable. We visited for lunch with a group of friends and it was a good idea to book a table in advance, as it gets quite busy during lunchtime. They offer daily specials and my friends ordered the beef tartare and a chicken dish from that menu, both were well received. I had the salmon steak, which was nicely presented and came with a great combination of flavors: mashed potatoes, spinach purée, tomatoes, and fresh greens. Normally it also includes broccoli, but I asked them to skip it. I definitely liked the dish, the salmon was tender and tasty and the sides worked together perfectly. For dessert, my friends had panna cotta and enjoyed it, while I chose the chocolate fondant with a scoop of ice cream and sea buckthorn foam, it was really delicious. This place also has a nice selection of signature cocktails. The waitress kindly helped me choose one based on my preferences and I was very happy with the Pink Panther, it suited my taste really well. We also tried their limoncello, which we liked a lot. Overall, it’s a great place with a pleasant atmosphere, friendly service and very good food and drinks. I definitely recommend visiting.
Vladyslava S — Google review
seems to be not bad, but: tartare without pepper, salt, capers, onions, pickled cucumbers ... that is, only meat and an egg. The sea bass was filled with mayonnaise sauces, so that the taste of fish was not felt. Interior was good, service too.

If you want a want a warm chill with high quality food this is the place. They have 3 restaurants, a burger place called uulits, a poki bowl and another Asian food restaurant.

Newly opened. Has 3 kitchens that serves awesomely delish food. You have a burger bar, which is oh so good (according to my friend who tried. A hot kitchen that offers poke bowls. I had an absolutely delish crispy duck poke bowl with avocado add on. Great bar with a large selection. And before I forget, super duper first rate service, with a smile. Rounded of the meal with a 12yo Dalmoor. On a cold chilly winter night, nothing beats this.

Humal BISTRO is an integral part of Tartu's cultural history, offering guests a sense of freedom through its food and drink selection and historical space. Located in the center of Tartu, it shares a building with Pallas Hotel, which underwent a complete renovation in 2020. The interior design is inspired by artists who studied at Pallas Art School.
Very nice place and location of the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Regarding the food, I can say this, unfortunately I can't give you a higher rating than 5/5 because the system doesn't let up, but you definitely restaurant deserve more. The food was very very good, I would happily go back again. The chips with dill were superb, as was the Spicy vodka rigatoni, this pate is definitely in the top 3 I've ever eaten in my life. I also took the addition of prosciutto, which made the dish even more exceptional. The schnitzel was also very tasty. A restaurant is worth visiting.

Attentive waiting staff, even with some large parties in the restaurant. Good, delicious food. Well cooked and presented. Was there during cocktail week, and had 3 great cocktails with the meal. Highly recommend the Lavender Sour if it's on the menu again. Cost was less than expected for 3 courses and 3 cocktails. And a great treat for during my travels

Humal in Tartu is a fantastic spot for steak lovers! The steak was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Paired with their wide selection of craft beers, it made for an excellent meal. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff is knowledgeable about both the food and drinks. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great steak and beer experience in Tartu!

Against my usual suspicion of hotel restaurants, the name of this place “Hops” attracted attention. A large drinks menu with some “irrelevant” stuff on tap, but the highlight is eight local beers from Anderson and Puhaste in cans. The tap rooms are nearby, but not often open and definitely don’t have the excellent food options here. Friendly staff and a nice view of the lively streets outside. A great place to start an evening of Tartu craft beer.

Lamb burger was mediocre. Although three others in my table said they liked it. Pedron peppers, cheese balls and ribs were awesome and staff was helpful. Food was more like presentation first and quality second. Good selection of beers both craft and basic

We ordered different pastas and antrecot. Kids pastas were just fine, but wanted to taste more bacon in them. Antrecot was really good. Bucatini Cacio e Pepe wasn’ t tasty at all - not recommending.
Eugene G — Google review
The restaurant is beautiful, but... We ordered mango passion lemonade, 8 euros, I love mango and expected it to be something tasty, since the name of the restaurant Pompeii sounds loud. In the end, they brought a small glass with a cloudy liquid and a slice of passion. Having tried this drink, I was disappointed, it tasted like this drink had gone bad and there was definitely no mango flavor and the size, sorry, for 8 euros a drink, especially a non-alcoholic one, should at least be bigger. Now the dishes: I ordered pesto pasta, 16 euros, it was interesting, I basically liked it, but again the size of the dishes is very small. If you come to this restaurant hungry, having ordered one dish, you will remain hungry. But if your wallet allows, then it will suit you. The restaurant is probably good, but not for me. The service staff is very polite, this is a big plus.

Unique experience. The meals are great, enough and tasty; the waitresses/waiters are friendly and helpful. However I had to wait more than 40 minutes to my meal, but at least the kind waitress lady offered free appetizers until we wait.

The food was absolutely divine. I have been to Italy many times and this is one place where I absolutely felt the food was made with the same love and attention to detail. As a starter we had some olives and smoked almonds, they were so so good, it’s hard to find good olives and these were amazing. We had the cacio e pepe pasta and it was perfect, every part of the ingredient complimenting each other. The grilled focaccia is a must, so much flavour! The wine recommendation our server gave us paired perfectly with everything. The tiramisu blew us away, it was so so so amazing. I don’t remember when or where I have gotten better tiramisu. I would come back just for the tiramisu. The service was even more amazing, everyone was warm and friendly. It was my best friend’s birthday and I had wrote in the reservation asking for a candle with the dessert. Not only did they put a candle, they sang for her too!!! The whole experience was so good my soul and heart are smiling because of the food and the people working here. Will definitely come back and I seriously recommend everyone to come here!!!

A great spot under the trees in a picturesque square. The Gambas plat du jour with sous vide and grilled watermelon was unusual and super tasty. I always thought they were only for drinks but now that I know I will dine here more often. Highly recommended!

We heard a lot about the place on TripAdvisor. However when we went on 25th June. There was some issue with the chefs it seems. The waiters were nice and bringing out the booze drinks all in time. How we the whole place was waiting for food. We had to wait for more then an hour to get our food. Food was overall average. Maybe one of those days when they were running short on chefs ? The waiter told they had two chefs today. But she mentioned that the food will come. Anyways overall an average experience we had. Hope to have a good one when we come next.
Akhil G — Google review
Beef was very overcooked and dry in the pasta(told the waiter who said that it should be medium, took it back to the kitchen, who sent it back to me with words that beef should be overcooked in the pasta), salt shaker got lost in the kitchen, pasta was sweet, missing salt. Salmon was overcooked. Service was great. Terrace is nice in the summer.
Kevin H — Google review
This place has very nice outside seating in the summer. Breakfast food was nice and the portion was big. It is a little generic but tastes nice and they have a large menu.
Tiit R — Google review
It was very disappointing. The burger meat was overcooked. The bottom patty was very dry, it crumbled in my hands, I had to eat it with a fork and knife. And the fries, why are there 2 types of fries? Straight and Crinkle, did they run out of one type? Clearly a cheap frozen variety.... I had a better meal at Hessburger and it was way cheaper. How could you do this to tourists?over charge us and give us a terrible meal. Its written on the menu you are getting Estonian meat, as if it's a way to tell you it's part of the genuine cuisine. At least the server was pleasant and helpful. I would not recommend!
Michael E — Google review
Went for a quick bite and ordered 3 different starters to share with 2 persons. Everything was really tasty. Simple, but still tasty.
Erno T — Google review
Very friendly staff and nice playground for kids. These are positives. But the salmon I ordered (around 15€) was way too small for the price, especially for Tartu. It was a bit tasteless also. Luckily the sides were good, but the Salmon piece should be at least twice the size. Photo is attached.
Hendrik O — Google review
Nice patio on main Street. The positives end there! 5 dumplings = $12. They were bland and the sauce (sour cream) didn't help at all. The "chicken wok with noodles" was equally as uneventful. The peanut sauce was overwhelming. I would NOT recommend either dish! A Gin martini was delivered warm with a lemon slice floating in it even though the menu mentioned an olive. We were charged $3 for "tap water".

The Gunpowder Cellar of Tartu is a popular spot among students, offering delicious food including Estonian dishes like mulgipuder. The spacious and comfortable hall has a great table layout, though it may be a bit tricky to find at first. The parking spots for cars are well-thought-out, resembling medieval times. I will definitely be back for this place. Walking in was like entering a fantasy setting, and for being such a large open space there is more seating than you think. Great beer selection, and the heavy wood furniture gives an impression of warmth for being underground. There’s also a stage on the ground floor.

A really cozy restaurant. Interesting interior and really delicious food. The waiter could have come and asked more often if we wanted more drinks or something. However, the service was otherwise good in every way. We were able to eat inside with the dogs and got a table on the side. Overall, a good experience and I will definitely visit again.

Visited in Sep 2025 Dropped by the Gunpowder Cellar a couple of times during my visit to Tartu. Ended up trying a few beers, but didn’t have any food. These folks have a pretty good collection of beers, incl. their house draughts and local/Estonian brands. I didn’t have any reservation and just did a walk-in. Had no issue finding a seat as the place is quite big. However, if you’re coming in a big group, it may be better to make a reservation. All in all, I think this beer hall/brewery is a must visit if you’re in Tartu, not only for the beers, but for the history of this place and the wonderful ambience.

Incredible! Best food I've had in a very long time. Chicken schnitzel and sweet potatoes were as flavorful as they were tender - fell apart as I placed my fork on it. The fried rye bread was also delicious. Both the domino cake (like an Oreo cheesecake) and the chocolate fondant (super dark and chocolatey) were delicious. Service was equally outstanding and the atmosphere in this old gunpowder storage cellar was perfect for my first night in Tartu. What a fortunate find!

It is a bunker like restaurant medieval style. Food was not so amazing. Tables are to big for groups of 8, if you come with 2 quite difficult to find a place. Thought the ambience is interesting.

The place is amazing, very high ceilings, which makes the experience even better. The food was very good, we took the menu which is only available for 14 days and it was excellent, very very good. I would love to go back, the food was delicious and very good. One of the best restaurants in the city of Tartu. praise.
