What a lovely way to spend a day, riding up to the top of the Brocken on a steam train! It’s not cheap at €51 for a round trip but it was worth it for the pure enjoyment of the ride behind the train and the fabulous views from the top of the Brocken. We boarded at Wernigerode at 10:25 and arrived at the Brocken at 12:01. There are places to eat and drink when you get there, toilet facilities and a small gift shop. Try and make sure you travel on a clear day for the spectacular views from the top of the Brocken. Wrap up warm as well and wear good stable footwear, it was very cold with lots of snow.
