Autumn on Nishiyama Park is just gorgeous. Go take a visit to this lovely park!
amazing park, walking distant from nishi-sabae station. went on weekend evenning during winter. sabae was covered in snow, so as nishiyama park. amid thik snow lightings were spectacular. surreal indeed.
His Park is awesome! The view is very good. Kids love it so much!
You can see and appreciate the nature as a paint according to the changing seasons.
Very nice sakura!! No entrance fee even in the zoo at the top of the park.
This is a nice place to go here in sabae with family.
Have been to Echizen several times before, but never during Golden Week. Nishiyama Park is quite large, with a lot to do whether it’s a festival season or not. There’s a gorgeous fountain, many trails and footpaths that you can take, and gorgeous views of the entire prefecture from a children’s park atop the hill. There is a small zoo at the top of the hill that is free to be public (though a 100yen donation is suggested and highly appreciated), and there are several primates, birds, and most prominently, a Red Panda (or Lesser Panda) exhibit complete with a walk through enclosure, family tree, and breeding program information. The park itself was beautiful because we happened to visit during the Azalea Festival, with entire hillsides covered in beautiful flowers, lanterns, and of course many vendor booths selling traditional Japanese street food, as well as many Azalea flavored confections. A gorgeous stop if you’re traveling around Echizen!
Very nice wonderful and not so crowded in weekdays

The glasses are a lot cheaper than Hong Kong. Bought a glass frame there and it’s around JPY20000 cheaper than Hong Kong (with the tax free discounted price).
Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture is most famous for producing high-quality Sabae glasses, including the first titanium frames back in 1981. You can check out the large display of historical pieces and tooling at the beautiful Megane Museum. Unfortunately, the signage is all in Japanese, but nonetheless the free museum is a worthy stop. If you fancy yourself a pair, stop by the shop and try out a few!
Ken is the best teacher in the world!!! 👓 thank you for the great experience you made my dreams turn into reality 🙏🏽 (Gabriel)
Visited in March 2024. Smallish museum explaining the history of glasses making in the area. Apparently they just sell the frames but not the lens … or may be they just don’t want to send aboard ? Such a shame ..
Visited March 2016, as the titanium frame originated in this area... Bought 1 which combine titanium and origami all together, everyone always compliment my frame. It's 2022 and it still good, only the glass need to be replaced. It is a place for someone who loves unique frame and the application of technology and or culture in the frame with a specific customized service (detail measurement on your face contour). Highly recommend you bring translator or friend who can speak Japanese. I was speechless on how they use the advance of technology and culture here. Yes... Less options because they represent many manufacturers around them. Please visit the English version website before you come if you are on low budget for translator. Sorry got to write something due to the under rate which not as I experienced.

(Translated by Google) It is a roadside station with the best scenery and the scent of azaleas🌸😎 It was during Golden Week, so it was very crowded (lol) Parking lot full! There is also a zoo, and red pandas seem to be popular. I had the Tsutsuji Soft Soft & Mince Cutlet Burger, a specialty of our roadside station! It does not meet the roadside station requirements and is malfunctioning. I had no choice but to park in a paid parking lot and tour the facility, but there was no road information and no rest space. I can only judge that it is a shop parking lot in Nishiyama Park. This is an exceptional facility in Fukui Prefecture that deviates from its original purpose. (Translated by Google) Bankeiji Temple, located one step up from the Sabae Plateau along the Historical Road (formerly Hokuriku Expressway), is the direct subsidiary temple of the main temple, Eiheiji Temple. It is also the family temple of Akikatsu Manabe, who was the head of the Edo Shogunate and the lord of the Sabae domain. Nokkatsu Manabe is famous for the Kyoyo Garden, which he created together with the people of his domain, and he painted wonderful ink paintings of ``Fujin'', ``Ryujin'', and ``Raijin'' on the ceiling of the main hall of Mankeiji Temple. This ceiling painting is impressive, each measuring 10 tatami mats in size, and its intricate brushwork. The spacious Karesansui garden is also terraced like the Xiaoyang Garden, and the view of the mountains in the distance to the west is exceptional. It is easily accessible, being a 12-minute walk from Sabae Station, and there are not only ceiling paintings and gardens, but also many temples and shrines and ruins remaining along the historical road, making it the perfect historical stroll. You can enjoy the adorable red pandas at no cost! I spent over an hour in their playroom, and they appeared happy and well-cared for in their environment. Unlike other zoos where their habitats are enclosed in glass, here you can observe them up close! Can’t wait to visit them again 🤩
So adorable zoom with lovely red pandas! Free of charge but highly recommend some donation!
This is my favorite place in the world😍🥰 You can see red pandas without ticket
A small zoo is in the corner of the park, but it's worth a visit if you love red pandas and squirrel monkeys! You can get quite close to them since they are in an open-air enclosure without a net fence. The place is free but there is a box in the entrance for donations.
This zoo has an astonishing number of red pandas in open air enclosures. You are generally a meter or less from them, and they are impossibly cute. It’s also got an amazing view of the city. Absolutely worth the trip out here.
WoooW so cute go and visit it, it's worth it.

Fascinating museum where you can learn how washi paper is made traditionally.
We love this place, we went there late, so we missed the demonstration of paper making. The staffs are very nice tried their best to explain things in English. Which we are very grateful.
We expect a bigger museum. Ticket combined with the Udatsu Museum. Should have English explanation and should have more exhibits to show to visitors.
amazing examples of the hand made paper products. many colours and styles to be seen. no photos allowed though which is sad. no touching either which is challenging given the beautiful textures of the papers.
Really nice and informative museum on the history of echizen washi and the making process. They have samples of many different kinds of washi for you to touch and feel the difference. There are QR codes for you to scan and you can read the explanations in different languages. Take a bus in front of takefu Station. The tourist centre will have information on the bus schedule.
No photos allowed at the museum but it covered the history and methods of making washi paper.
Not only at the museum, but in general at the town I learned a lot about washi. I thought I already knew everything about the basis of making Washi paper, but here I learned a lot I did not know I didnt know. It was great. I do wish more information was in English.
Great demonstrations

(Translated by Google) 2024/9 Visit It's near Sabae Station, but the atmosphere changes when you enter. There are two pairs of guardian dogs, one next to the third torii gate and one in front of the shrine. I really liked the little guardian dog in front of this shrine. The expression on her face and the way the little guardian dog hugs her are the best. The second torii is the Ryobu torii, and it may have been a long time since I've seen a non-colored Ryobu torii. The sacred tree is also wonderful, and it is a shrine you should definitely visit if you get off at Sabae Station. From the moment we entered, the air was clear and the snowy scenery was spectacular. I had my goshuin stamp written at the shrine office in the back. I had three celestial stamps of the sun and moon stamped on it. This year is a turning point. Next to the shrine is a large oak tree that is about 100 years old. Behind the shrine, you may have seen history dating back to the Sengoku period. There is a large cedar tree that is said to be 500 years old. Valued by local people since ancient times This can be said to be proof that the company has been protected. The worship hall is full of divinity, worthy of being called a sacred precinct. Not only the main shrine, but also the wooden torii gate, large cedar trees, large oaks, and other parts of the precincts are amazing! The approach to the shrine passing through three torii gates is perfect for mentally and physically preparing for the visit before reaching the main shrine. We highly recommend that you visit the shrine at least once. 2024.02.15 I took revenge with my camera and wide-angle lens for the third time since my first visit. Due to the location, there is backlight and the dark trees make the difference in brightness larger than expected, and if it is a clear day, you will not be able to stay within the D range, so I recommend a cloudy day. (Translated by Google) It was a nice shrine with a very calming atmosphere, but the water was full of leaves and mud at the bottom, probably because of the heavy rain the other day... I think it would be difficult to manage, but since there is a sign asking visitors to wipe their hands and mouth before praying, it would be better to keep the water pool clean at all times, or change the instructions to remind worshipers not to rinse their mouths. I think it's good for your safety. The roofed caps of the third torii, ``Otorii,'' and the fourth torii, ``Akatorii,'' are said to be typical of the Echizen style. Both are important prefectural cultural properties. The main shrine, which stands in the moss-covered precincts, has a solemn atmosphere and a refreshing air. The roof of the main shrine was shingled. The enshrined deity is Ohiko no Mikoto. Ohiko-no-Mikoto is revered as the god of victory, good fortune, long life, traffic safety, and health. <2024> The fourth torii gate, ``Red Torii'', was made of half stone and half wood (lower stone and upper wood).

My friend was told they were refused, with a strange reply, "I can't write it now!" There are few bus routes in the western part of the station, so if the weather is nice, it's very convenient to rent a bicycle.
