A Trip Back in Time at Trakai Castle! Wow, what an incredible place! If you want to feel like you’ve stepped straight into a fairytale, you absolutely have to visit Trakai Castle. The whole experience starts with a walk across a wooden bridge over the lake, and the view of the majestic red-brick towers is just breathtaking. From the moment you arrive, you get this amazing medieval feeling. We had the best time exploring the cobblestone courtyard, climbing the wooden stairs, and peeking into the old halls. You can almost hear the echoes of knights and dukes from centuries ago! The museum inside is really well done and brings the castle's fascinating history to life. It truly feels like a journey back to the 15th century. Just a friendly heads-up, the castle is currently undergoing some important restoration work to keep it looking fantastic for years to come. While this means some areas might be sectioned off, it honestly didn't affect our visit. There is still so much to see and explore, and the atmosphere is completely magical. Don't let the ongoing work put you off! This place is 100% worth the visit for its stunning beauty and incredible historical vibe. We absolutely loved it!
Visiting Trakai Island Castle was like stepping into a living piece of Lithuanian history. The moment you cross the wooden bridge over Lake Galvė, the red-brick towers appear in full majesty — calm, proud, and full of stories. Inside, each hall has its own character: the Grand Duke’s chamber feels royal and atmospheric, the armory impresses with real swords and armor, and the exhibition about Vytautas the Great brings the medieval world to life. I loved how well-preserved everything is — you can almost imagine knights, musicians, and nobles walking through these halls centuries ago. Helpful Tips for Visitors: Arrive early, especially on weekends — it gets crowded quickly. Book tickets online in advance to skip the queue. Take a guided tour or audio guide — it adds so much depth to the visit. Bring cash for local shops or snacks — not all vendors accept cards. Don’t miss the inner courtyard and lake views — perfect for photos. Families with kids should visit the dungeon and towers — they’re always a hit! After the castle, try the legendary kibinai at “Senoji Kibininė” nearby — the perfect finish to your day. Trakai Castle isn’t just a tourist attraction — it’s a real time machine that lets you feel the spirit of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. A must-see for anyone who loves history, architecture, or simply beautiful places that make you pause and breathe in the past.
Stunning castle in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. We were lucky with the weather as it had been raining all day the previous day. The restauration of the castle is amazing and still ongoing. Certain areas were closed because of that and because we visited out of season. But still lots to see with a huge number of period artefacts. Gives you an idea of how important trade was. Tranquil setting with nice walks in the area. Not many visitors but I can imagine it gets very busy in Summer. Good restaurants around on the lake side leading to the castle. It's a good walk from the station, about 3km, but beautiful along the lakes. The whole experience was magnificent and the on site toilets were immaculate. Access for wheelchair users a bit tricky and you need to be fairly sure footed due to the old cobbled roads and paths. But what a place. Return rail ticket from Vilnius was about €6.
A very cool medieval castle and a museum! Despite some rain and October gloomy weather, we had a great time exploring the castle. The grey skies gave the whole location a nice vibe, and the forest and lake surrounding the castle looked stunning.
Had an lovely experience visiting Trakai. Nestled in nature, the entire environment is incredibly calming and beautiful. The colorful houses and the vibrant surroundings make it a truly picturesque destination. The peaceful ambiance, especially with water all around, adds to the tranquility. And of course, if you visit, you absolutely must try the kibinai, a delicious local treat that adds an authentic touch. Absolutely worth the trip!
I visited Trakai Castle in October, and it was absolutely stunning. The autumn colors made the entire island look like something out of a fairy tale — golden leaves reflecting on the calm lake, with the red brick walls of the castle standing proudly in the middle. The weather was cool but pleasant, perfect for exploring without crowds. The walk across the wooden bridge to the castle is beautiful and gives you plenty of photo opportunities. Inside, the museum is well-organized, with interesting exhibits about Lithuanian history, the Grand Dukes, and medieval life. There’s also a sense of calm and history that you can really feel as you wander through the courtyards and towers. Even though some areas felt a bit touristy (like the souvenir stalls near the entrance), it didn’t take away from the experience. I’d recommend stopping at one of the nearby cafés to try kibinai, the local pastry — warm and delicious on a chilly autumn day. Overall: A must-visit if you’re in Lithuania. Trakai Castle in autumn is simply magical — peaceful, picturesque, and full of history.
We visited a beautiful, photogenic castle situated on an island surrounded by water. During our visit, a portion of the castle was closed for renovation, which unfortunately affected the quality of our photographs. The interior of the castle is rich in history, and the local guide was very knowledgeable in sharing its stories.
The Trakai Island Castle (Trakų salos pilis) is a stunning medieval fortress set on an island in Lake Galvė, Lithuania. Reached by wooden bridges, it feels like stepping into a fairytale. The red-brick towers, calm waters, and scenic surroundings make it one of the country’s most photogenic spots. The museum inside is informative, and boat views are magical at sunset. A must-visit day trip from Vilnius for history and nature lovers alike.

This is a beautiful church in a breathtaking place in Lithuania, a couple of dozen kilometers from the capital, from Vilnius. This place, this town, Trakai, which is located between the beautiful lakes and which in the old days was the capital of the Lithuanian duchy, simply incomparably magnificent. This church was founded in the first half of the 19th century, during the Russian imperial occupation of Lithuania. First, a small building was built. During the brutal First World War, the church was badly damaged. After several years of worship, the divine service was restored there.
A beautiful church worth visiting. However, it may not be easy to park a car nearby, and the church itself is not always open.

The turn of 14th and 15th centuries lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas (Witold) resettled a number of Karaite families from the Crimea for his guard purposes and granted them various privileges. A small community remains there to this day, which has preserved its language, distinctive customs. Their religion of Karaites is the reformed version of Judaism. Kenesa is the term for an East European Karaite synagogue. Karaite kenesa contains: Vestibule (azar), where worshipers take off their shoes. Moshav Zekenim (מושב זקנים, old men's pews): wooden benches for the old and the mourners, usually under a low ceiling. The loft above this ceiling is reserved for the women, who remain invisible to the men on the main floor. Shulkhan (שולחן‎ "table"): the main hall. Traditional Karaite worship was performed on the knees. In the past, kenesa floors were carpeted; however, modern Karaite kenesas have pews in the main hall. Hekhal, or altar (היכל): raised stand for the ritual Ark and the priest.
A unique building in Trakai) It is located on Karaim street, close to the Trakai Hillfort and Trakai History Museum. There are traditional home of Karaim people, all around the kenessa. Unfortunately, you can't get inside the kenessa but this calling card of Trakai is a must seen for tourists.
The Trakai Kenesa (Trakų karaimų kenesa) is a small yet deeply meaningful wooden synagogue, symbolizing the long history of the Karaim community in Lithuania. Its light blue exterior and simple, peaceful interior reflect Karaim traditions and humility. Though modest in size, it carries great cultural and spiritual value. Visiting the Kenesa offers a glimpse into Trakai’s unique multicultural heritage and a quiet moment of reflection away from the tourist crowds.
Special and serene building in Trakai!
Interesting and unbelievable history with amazing evidences, like as this Kenesa

Incredible Lithuanian get-away. Pure relaxation and silence - the only thing you can hear are birds tweeting. Food is delicious and well presented - very fancy and tastes super fresh. Scallops and halibut were to die for! Very modern cabins with plenty of ammenities and good air-con. Beautiful grounds to walk around with plenty to do. The lake is so clean and fresh and perfect for a swim. The staff were so hospitable and welcoming. I am Lithuanian but came with my wife who only speaks Enlgish, and they were so accomodating and helpful to her as well. Honestly can't wait to be back. Perfect for a couple, but also perfect for a family.
Avoid the place is my best recommendation. The place could have been a hidden gem, but Restaurant Manager is a rude and arrogant person. We were served cold food, and the hygiene of those who make the food is very poor. I now understand why more people have written that they were food poisoned here. We left after a day from here, even though we were there longer.
TonyResort is a "concept" -- the cottages are architecturally interesting, the whole grounds is planned and designed, nestled next to the lake. It's a unique place. The "family" units occupy both floors of the cottage, but are not very well designed. Two bedrooms are upstairs (and the stairs are so steep as to be treacherous for young children or elderly guests), but only bathroom is downstairs. There is no kitchenette, so say goodbye to any ideas of preparing a meal for your family and friends and eating it on your balcony with a nice view (grilling is also not allowed!). The air conditioner barely worked, the TVs were outdated and most channels didn't work. On the plus side, the lake is nice, the boardwalk routes through the swamp were very interesting, the breakfast buffet was nourishing and with sufficient selection. The outdoor restaurant dining area is really quite a treat. If you want a "hotel + activities" experience, you might like it here. If you want a "cottage" experience, you may find it lacking.
Tony Resort is a perfect family getaway with beautiful nature, great service, and a delicious restaurant. Highly recommended!
Great stay. Very calm area with cabins in the woods. There is a decent lake nearby as well. Perfect for short vacation. Also you can plan any celebration here since they have special areas for weddings, dinners etc. Also the food in the restaurant is pretty good, would definitely try it again.
Good experience. Plenty of forest and pleasant space outdoors to roam. Great lake to enjoy, too. The room was quite nice, not a lot of space but the bed was very big and comfortable so I slept very well. Unfortunately, the water pressure from the shower was quite low, but I do not think that is the norm. Only a couple of less spectacular things: the restaurant is incredibly expensive and it is easy to spend over 50 EUR per person for dinner (purchasing anything there is as well). There are no shops nearby as the resort is remote. I will say that the restaurant is high quality though, and the breakfast was enjoyable. Also, there is nothing to do when it is raining as there is no indoor entertainment. If you have a disability, I would recommend avoiding this place as there are a lot of steps and slopes that will make life difficult.
They have an interesting entertainment - they cook the fish You catch. But the fish must weigh no more than 1 kg. The extra weight will cost you 30 euros per kg. Caught fish cannot be released!!
Stayed there for the weekend , 2 nights. With breakfast and dinner included also the sauna for 1 hour . Room are basic , the towels hasn’t been changed , the downstairs room was so loud during the stay even though walking through the door in the night feels like big disturbance and you feel like you are living with someone . Breakfast is good. Dinner also which was the best part of our stay. If you go there try to get a separate house or even not close to the main reception and kitchen area as you will be hearing all noises coming from the kitchen and cars that are parked there I guess they belongs to the staff as the customer has to park down the hill.

Such a lovely place to take a walk. Fully recommended. It’s solemn and calm. I’ve been there a couple of times and I would be visiting again and again. I recommend you visit before the sun sets, so you can get the most magical view.
Unusual collection of wooden (but not only) statues depicting angels of all forms and shapes
This place was very beautiful felt really scary at first since it was super windy and cloudy. We were the only one there, no one else plain lands everywhere. We felt blessed by this angels after when we bumped into situations. Things went like everysingle time god has sent someone to fix it. We really felt the presence of angels in our life.
There are places that touch something deep inside you — quietly, without warning. The Hill of Angels is one of those rare, mysterious corners of the world where you suddenly feel something bigger than words. As I walked among the wooden angels, each carrying its own message of love, peace, or hope, I couldn’t explain why my eyes filled with tears. It wasn’t sadness — it was a wave of something pure, sacred, and ancient, as if the air itself remembered thousands of prayers whispered here. There’s a silence that speaks louder than sound. The breeze between the sculptures feels alive, almost like a gentle conversation with your soul. You sense kindness, forgiveness, and a strange comfort — as if unseen hands rest on your shoulders, telling you that everything is exactly as it should be. It’s a place where time stops. Where heart opens. Where mystery becomes peace.
Charming place to visit after trakai Castle. there are some musical instruments that produced angelical sounds added charm to the place. A little far to visit if you do not have your own transport. I walked 6km from trakai Castle (1 way), the path was well marked till the last 200m when the walking path disappeared, just continue to walk straight parallel to the road till you see the sign in lithunian (on the left) that should translate to angels hill. don't expect lots of actions, it's a quiet hill but the sculptures and the story and purpose of the hill may justify the long walk.
We found this purely by accident after visiting Trakai Castle, which is only a few miles away. We had a peaceful walk among the angels, listening to the wind chimes and admiring the view.
New "cross hill" just in shape of Angels. Cozy place to meditate. Dint forget to bring your angel for the Love, Heath, Faith, Family, Compation or any other angels you wish.
Amazing! Love the love, compassion, kindness, friendship, and bikers angels especially. However, they are all unique and beautiful 🙏. Hope the project will reach it's goal. Definitely worth a visit!

The Museum is actually located inside the outstanding Trakai Island Castle and houses an impressive collection of medieval artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the region's history. It include various chambers including the Great Hall, the Chapel, and the dungeons.
Nice couple of hours spent visiting the Castle. It has been rebuilt so plenty to see. Tours available.
The castle is impressive when you see it from afar. The history of the castle is colorful and if possible it is worth taking a guide to tell you about the history. The castle has a lot of stairs so it is not suitable for people with disabilities.
Great castle not to far from the capital. The buildings are on an island in the lake, which was beautiful in its own right. The castle was being renovated at the time but all halls were accessible.
Very wonderful Architecture of the castle it’s a small packed Museum. A lot of interesting and valuable items inside. Glass, ceramics, old furnitures and more stuff related to the church. I could say it’s visiting this castle. Transport tip from Vilnius Starion there is train that takes 30mins the train is running every less than an hour. The fare cost 2,80€ second class seat. You can buy the ticket either online or to the ticket counter.
A small local museum) Its exhibitions look slightly eclectic. Some will call it provincial but still it is worth a visit. There is a nice collection of items of church utensils, very special pieces of furniture, Lithuanian, Karaim and Polish rulers' luxury goods. The guide will tell you a history of Trakai very shortly adding some details on the everyday life of Karaims and Lithuanian dukes. You will spend around an hour there. Enjoy)
this is not the island castle that people seem to be reviewing! the history museum is a separate building, we bought a ticket here when buying one for the island castle as it was only an extra 2€. don’t waste your money! it is not a museum, rather a few rooms with some small items and random members of staff who just sit in the corner of the rooms and do not interact. the island castle is very interesting with a lot more to see so don’t bother coming here after.
Really beautiful & scenic castle on the lake, about a 30 min each way bus trip from Vilnius (~5€ round trip). The setting is gorgeous, especially if you go on a nice sunny day (I’m sure it’s nice in winter weather also, but with little shelter to be had, I’d not personally wanna be stuck out there in the cold). I opted not to go inside the museum itself, as it’s prohibitively expensive, especially for Lithuania (~13€ for 1 adult ticket). I also hate to be a buzzkill, but the castle itself is a reconstruction from the early 1960’s, so it’s scenic & great for photos, but it’s not exactly what I’d call authentic. Worth the trip, I think, but again, more for the setting & scenery & the area’s historical significance (as a former capital & royal residence of Lithuania).

A beautiful hotel located only 40 minutes away from Vilnius! The surrounding forest and lake are incredible, while inside the rooms are spacious with great design. The food served in the restaurant is delicious, especially for breakfast, while the views are breathtaking all around. We also really enjoyed our time in the spa, thanks to modern facilities and high quality treatments. The staff around the hotel is also very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!
Very pleasant place. Close to Vilnius. Very expensive , including restaurant offers. But amazing breakfast. Nice, small and sand lake beach with swings. I think it Will be great to increase children facilities.
The location of this resort is lovely. However, the rooms and the decor are outdated. We've also found a brand new cigarette filter on our table when we checked in,which was rather strange. The most disappointing part is that the Spa is in a different building. You cannot walk to it with your bathrobe and slippers. The changing area is SUPER SMALL. Like really small! And it was not a nice experience to be cramped during the pandemic with six other ladies in a small space. The spa itself is nice. Though,no relaxing music was playing and the TV was playing a football game. For some reason it doesn't suit the swimming pool vibe at all! The waiting area of the hotel is great, although again, really strange pop music was playing when we checked in. These details really matter when you want to experience a luxurious weekend. The best part was probably the restaurant and breakfast buffet. Really great, fresh produce. Overall, there are other amazing places close by that offer a better value with more luxurious feel. Improvement is definitely needed!
We stayed at Esperanza Lake Resort and really loved it! The resort looks amazing after renovation. Olea restaurant was a pleasant surprise with its delicious Greek cuisine and especially interesting breakfast menu. There are also adorable alpacas on the territory, i absolutely loved them! The spa is definitely worth mentioning: spacious, beautiful, and perfect for relaxation. Great selection of treatments and wonderful pool area with a stunning view. Thanks to the hotel for the excellent service. We’ll gladly come back!
Exceptional hospitality from all staff members. Our special compliments goes to the Restaurant Chef Ernestas for the outstanding dishes he creates. Thank you and we will definitely come back.
Amazing “get away from city life” spot. Views, service, food, spa, everything is exceptional. Will definitely be coming back again, many times.
Superb quality for rest and relax. Very nice and cosy place to stay. Five star hospitality will make you feel special. Another thing to mention is food quality - ESPERANZA cares about their guests, so kitchen chefs make very delicious and special menu. Thanks ESPERANZA;)
Stayed there twice, and absolutely loved that place. Amazing nature all around, lots of fun outdoor and indoor activities. The spa and sauna treatments are very relaxing, and energizing. The food is very delicious and organic, and the entire resort is very luxurious, with great service, and lots to do. Highly recommend to anyone, planning a trip to Eastern Europe.
