For families with kids and travelling adults, I highly recommend this place, it's educational, and interesting to read and understand the sea creatures of fukushima, how the fukushima aquamarine started the continuous study of living things under water of fukushima and many more things to learn, the beautiful sea creatures are fascinating, I've been to other aquamarine museum but its always a new experience everytime I'm visiting one. I hope people of all ages who travel to Fukushima should experience this.
Amazing experience at the aquarium today. The animals were upclose and you can see the tuna and sardines swimming in a school in the tank. There are other outdoor areas that are kids friendly too! Must go if you are in iwaki
This is an absolutely amazing place, the range of animals big and small is great it’s kept very clean and there all well looked after
Absolute must see attraction in Iwaki, a couple hours ride from Fukushima. Well worth the day trip to visit. Beautiful building and large variety of sea species mixed with lots of information and conservation info.
Beautiful facility that provides tranquility to your day. The history surrounding Japan and the sea is vast and very historical.
I’ve visited numerous aquariums across Japan, but Aquamarine Fukushima stands out as truly unique. Unlike others, it doesn’t rely on dolphin, penguin, or sea lion shows, yet it shines in its own distinctive way. The aquarium features a variety of affordable dining options, making it more budget-friendly compared to others. Its exhibits of fish and reptiles are thoughtfully displayed in a park-like setting, where kids can not only observe marine life but also enjoy interactive water play areas.
Aquamarine at Japan northeast … Building is very fantastic architecture… Decorate a beautiful place with various plants, including a variety of marine animals… There is a lovely souvenir shop… But I prefer the outside space…☺️
It's nice in all seasons. In the summer, there is a lively crowd of families playing at the small tide pools outside and you can buy shaved ice. In the winter, it's less lively but still beautiful. Be aware to dress for the weather and don't go on days that are too hot. There are many parts of the aquarium that do not have air conditioning or heating, so remember your coat in the winter and just plain don't go if it is super hot in the summer. It also gets very busy during holidays. We like it here, the tropical fish and octopus are the best.

Beautiful place, especially for a short nature walk. Next time I will probably just stick to the trails because you have to pay to visit the temple, but it is good to go back inside occasionally.
Not my cup of tea. The fee is 500¥ and you get to see a temple which is OK, but, for me, not much more special than other free temples in Japan. They had some constructions around as well and lake was muddy.
I feel like revisiting and see the wooden statues kept inside. I will stay longer inside this Amidado temple.
In autumn,we can see greatful autumn leaves and emotional shrine,SHIRAMIZUAMIDADO.
Namo Shakyamuni Buddha
(Translated by Google) Visited 10/20/2025 This is Fukushima Prefecture's only National Treasure building. It appears to date from the Heian period, and its overall bright and airy layout exudes natural beauty and soft elegance. It's feminine. It's magnificent. Five Buddha statues are enshrined in the hall. Their appearance reflects the passage of nearly 900 years. These figures have transcended time to sit here. It's moving. Nice experience to discover some of the fossils uncovered in Iwaki, as well as the history of iwaki's coal mining back in 1950s. Musuem provides leaflets that have english explanation, great for tourists!
Easily one of my favorites as you can find various specimens of dino fossil. Although it is not huge, it is packed with skeletal exhibits. The coal mine museum was a little eerie but also informational about the life of coal workers in Japan.
This is SO COOL!!! Their collection of fossils and coal etc is extensive and creatively presented, and then there's an amazing experience of the history of coal mining, you feel like you really went there and back in time to see first hand what it was like over the decades. SO FUN!!!
A nicely done museum. Allow us to touch some fossils.
Very cool! Just 10 min walk from Yumoto Onsen Station. Even if you don’t understand Japanese, there are plenty of huge fossils and underground coal tunnel exhibits are a bit spooky, but fun.
Amazing experience and interesting exhibition. Loved the coal mine underground display, it felt like a real one.
I was really surprised how good it is and how much they cover. From dinosaurs, outdoor sites, a dark lift down to the mining exhibits etc. Really worth visiting then an onsen bath afterwaeds.

Beautiful Easy parking , steep walk up so be careful and rested. Views are amazing.
One of the famous spots in Iwaki city. Nice view of pacific ocean, awesome place. Beach is beautiful too. Good enough spaces for car parking. There’s cycling track nearby, good for walking too.
Beautiful view, not wheelchair accessible as there were many stairs before reaching the lighthouse entrance. 300 yen ticket.
A lovely lighthouse along the seaside....with very nice view. You can take the bus from the city jr station! Around an hour per bus.... you have to walk around 20 minutes from the bus stop to the lighthouse. The entrance fee is not expensive at all.
Amazing view at the top of the lighthouse!
Views from the top are some of the best ocean views I’ve seen in Japan. Awesome spot. Definitely recommend visiting this place and the whole area around it for a day trip.
Wonderful view of the sea, especially on a clear sunny day. The topmost balcony is narrow, for people to stand and stay for a long time, but the view is truly worth a visit. There is no elevator, and there is just a flight of stairs to reach the top (it was a good exercise climbing them though).

Beautiful wide park overlooking the sea. Didn't actually go up the tower but there are ton of observation spots spread out in the area (i.e. observation platform that extends out over the cliff!) so be sure to explore the area and enjoy the sunset.
Excellent views of the port, ocean and the park below.

Visiting Onsen Jinja in Yumoto, it looks small and like it's just another shrine, but actually it has 1300 years of history as one of the oldest shrines in Japan (the first record of the shrine is in 673 AD). The family that run this shrine have done so for around 85 generations and are doing a great job to maintain the shrine but also stay relevant in today's world.
Beautiful place. Autumn is the best season to visit. Free entrance. No carpark. There is a nearby hot water foot-bath.

The temizuya (purification fountain) is unusable due to the flowers, so people purify themselves in the hot springs! But it turned out the water was quite hot. I just dropped in casually, but I was surprised to learn that it has been enshrined for over 1,300 years!! (I don't do much research beforehand, so I was surprised by this.) The worship hall and main hall are beautiful, and I was able to stroll around and enjoy the views. It was very hot that morning, but the sound of the wind chimes seemed to help ease the heat! By the way, it is lit up at night, and the atmosphere is really nice! (The shrine office is closed at night, as expected.) Parking is along the street. I had a fantastic time at the Iwaki Ammonite Centre! The fossil digging experience was a real workout—harder than I expected, but definitely worth it. The staff were absolutely amazing—friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly generous. They even gave my children two shark teeth fossils, which made their day! This is a great place for families and anyone interested in prehistoric life. Highly recommend visiting if you're in the area!
An educational experience with the family excavating for ammonite fossils. Came across some fossils over 100 million years old. Around about 90 mins in total with a half hour intro (in Japanese, naturally) and then time digging. About right length as quite strenuous on arms. You can take some of your fossils home unless of a certain scale or rarity. Worth doing some research first to learn what to look for, but a fun experience and something different to normal trips out.
Although I don't speak any Japanese I was able to communicate using Google Translate and Google Lens. Google Lens was also helpful to translate all information in the museum. Hopefully they will add English translations at some point which would make it easier for non-Japanese tourists. The excavation was very interesting and I found a tooth of an Enchodus (fish). One photo is after some preparation and the other one as I found it with the tip still covered. The stone is very soft and easy to remove. If you are a fossil enthusiast I can totally recommend Iwaki Ammonite Center even if you don't speak Japanese. But make sure you have a translate app. As I was traveling through Japan with a Japan Rail Pass I walked there from Suetsugi station. It is a nice 60-90 minute walk and you can also pass by the place Futabasaurus was disvovered.
(Translated by Google) We visited after the Iwaki City Coal and Fossil Museum. It's a journey to feel the romance of ancient times. Admission is 260 yen for adults, or 200 yen for JAF members. There are few exhibits, but you can see the observation facility that looks like a mining site. Ammonites are apparently more similar to squids than nautiluses. They seem to focus on fossil excavation experiences, which you can do for just a few hundred yen. There were many women who came, so if you're interested, it's worth going. The man at the reception was a cheerful and interesting man. There was also a 200 yen discount coupon for Abukuma Cave in the museum. I used it at Abukuma Cave. The facility opened at 9am, but we were able to use the restrooms before then, and I felt that it was a facility that cares about its visitors, with very good service. The person in charge of the orientation for fossil excavation was also very friendly, and the stories he told were so interesting that I was drawn into his content. The excavation experience was also very fun, and time passed by in an instant. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any ammonite or shark tooth fossils, but I was able to find some bivalve fossils, and I was even able to take them home. I was able to learn about fossils and geological strata in addition to the fossil excavation experience, and it was a really good experience. I'm sure there will be lots of things to see and do with the kids, like Spa Resort Hawaiians, the Marine Tower, Shioyazaki Lighthouse, and the fireworks festival 🎆! This is my first time at an art museum 🖼️! 😅 The location was easy to find! There was a parking lot🅿 diagonally behind the building! (Proof of museum use! You stamp the paper yourself and then return it?!) Almost every car around here had Iwaki license plates! It was the end of summer vacation, so there were a lot of people! 😀😀 Maybe because there weren't any paintings🖼️ or artworks, photos📷️ were allowed♪😁 My daughter, about 5 years old, was crying in her stroller, so unfortunately, her mother had to leave! 😓⤵️ "Kids' sleepy time"🥱😖😫😭You have to avoid it as much as possible! Good luck, mom! 😅😅😟 Scandinavian furniture🪑, glass art🥤, and a bright interior color scheme during the snowy❄ season🔵🟡🔴🟢♬ It's a flower-filled day💯♪😁 I especially love glass🩷, so I recommend the cubes♪😁 (Unfortunately, the sale ends on Sunday the 18th😩) The souvenirs were imported, so they were a little pricey, but everyone bought them♪ I was torn between saury and Moomin!😅😅 (Original)

Near my house and very popular place to visit. A must visit if you are in iwaki fukushima.
(Translated by Google) It's close to the hotel, but we got lost and it took us a while to find the shrine. It was founded by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi in 1063, so it has a lot of history. There are many remains from the Oshu War in this area, and this is one of them. It's a pretty big shrine. The sculptures above the main hall were impressive. The mountain gate was also impressive. This shrine was built by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi when he went on an expedition to Oshu. The buildings, such as the huge tower gate and main hall, as well as the treasures housed there, are designated cultural properties by the country and Fukushima Prefecture. The approach to the shrine is paved with stones, which gives it a quaint feel. Local people also came to worship. There are no toilets at the station, but there is a public toilet in the parking lot along the prefectural road, about 100 meters from the station entrance in the direction of Kawamae Station. Trains were once exchanged at this station, and the remains of the siding track from that time remain in the direction of Kawamae Station. The station facilities include a small waiting room that remains from the days when trains were exchanged, and inside the waiting room there is a wooden table and benches surrounding it. On the table is a station notebook that seems to have been prepared by a local person, preserving the memories of those who visited this station.
